The Prime Minister said the Opposition embarrassed this country with the harsh criticisms its leader levied against the administration of a former U.S. President.

This, as he sought to remind the population that his administration secured a licence from the U.S. government that cleared the way for the Dragon gas deal with Venezuela even though there are other U.S sanctions on Venezuela's government.

00:00Right now in Trinidad and Tobago there are those of you outside of this room of
00:05course who believe that the behavior of the opposition leader is required
00:08because America has a new president and we have to make sure we please that
00:13president otherwise dog eat we supper. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley as he
00:18responded to opposition leader Kamala Prasad Bissett's recent harsh criticism
00:22of the administration led by former US President Joe Biden as she congratulated
00:27the administration of the new US President Donald Trump after he took his
00:32oath of office last week. I want to say to the opposition who embarrassed and
00:37disgraced us last week I want to quote for them from this PNM platform the
00:42words of a Caribbean champion, a Caribbean Democrat, former Prime Minister
00:48Barbados Errol Barrow and he said like Dr. Williams said we are friends of all
00:56and satellite of none.
01:03Speaking during the PNM's 69th anniversary celebrations at the Napa
01:07in Port of Spain on Saturday, Prime Minister Rowley recalled what he
01:11declared to have been the opposition UNC's position against the Sandals Hotel
01:16project in Tobago. It is exactly that which is happening why the opposition
01:23UNC has come out so obscenely and vulgarly and attach itself to the
01:29political campaign of an American political party to provoke the
01:34Venezuelan president and the government there to prevent them from cooperating
01:38with Trinidad and Tobago in the oil and gas business. The recent progress on the
01:43deal for the supply of natural gas from Venezuela's the Dragonfield to
01:47Trinidad and Tobago could as a result of negotiations between the
01:51administration led by Prime Minister Rowley, the US administration led by
01:56former President Biden and the administration in Venezuela led by
01:59President Nicolas Maduro. It doesn't matter which party put sanctions on
02:04Venezuela because both parties in Washington put sanctions on Venezuela.
02:08Both parties. Our assignment was to get to Washington to make our case to
02:15influence people and to get a carve out from the sanctions that they put on
02:20Venezuela which was smothering Trinidad and Tobago's operations with our
02:24neighbor and we succeeded in doing that. We've got a no-fuck license from
02:28Washington when Washington has sanctioned Venezuela. The Prime Minister then had
02:32this to say about the opposition UNC. And they're standing by to celebrate
02:37failure by the Dragonfield and the Dragonfield and the Dragonfield like the
02:41dragon tail. Let me tell you something they do not want this country to succeed
02:46if it means that they fail at the polls. But in this PNM, come opposition, come
02:53government, we are there for the people of Trinidad and Tobago in fair weather or foul.
02:59The government has said it looks forward to working with the new Trump
03:04administration on matters of mutual interest.
