Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla near Gaza has sparked protests from Italy to Argentina and across the world, with tens of thousands demanding the release of activists.

00:00Meanwhile, the interception of the global Sumut Fetila has drawn widespread condemnation.
00:05Tens of thousands have taken to the streets worldwide,
00:09accusing Israel of violating international law by targeting civilian boats
00:13and demanding the release of the activists on board.
00:18In Malaysia, thousands gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur,
00:23waving Palestinian flags and placards,
00:25and calling on the U.S. to pressure Israel to release the detainees
00:29and to end its blockade of the enclave.
00:32In Italy, roughly 10,000 people marched in Rome,
00:36forcing authorities to close metro stations.
00:39Unions have also called a general strike on Friday in solidarity
00:42with the flotilla and the Palestinian cause.
00:46Protests were also reported in Milan, Turin, Naples, Pisa and Bologna.
00:51Similar demonstrations were reported in Argentina, Tunisia, Greece, Turkey
00:56and several countries in Latin America.
00:59All condemning Israel's actions and calling for the immediate release of the flotilla crew.
01:04The convoy carries nearly 500 activists, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg,
01:09Nelson Mandela's grandson Mandela Mandela and several European lawmakers.
01:14The boats were about 70 nautical miles off Gaza when they were intercepted,
01:19and it zoned Israel patrols to prevent vessels from approaching the enclave.
01:22In 2010, nine activists were killed after Israeli forces stormed a flotilla of six ships
01:28carrying some 700 pro-Palestinian activists from 50 countries.
