00:00:00corner on the rebellion lola toyota that the best placed of the non-hybrid cars but a mistake there
00:00:07from nick heitfeld that was a tetrush i think wasn't it yeah and that car of course is carrying
00:00:10those vertical uh turning veins on the front they especially put those on for le mans didn't they
00:00:15whoops wow that was probably heavier than we thought yeah he's not going to back it out he
00:00:20got on the brakes um yes where's the damage thing caused to the to the has he been across the road
00:00:25here uh i'm not sure i think he's tagged the barrier there on the inside because the damage
00:00:30there was to the left front corner of the car we didn't see any damage there and any impact did we
00:00:34with the left front of the car yeah i think we saw the whole thing there but yeah he's tagged that
00:00:38and he's done some damage to the look at it this is a battle now for p2 yeah ricardo gonzalez uh has
00:00:44closed right up on martin on alex brungler alex has he just made a pit stop i think he has with
00:00:51a foreman 54 lap well yeah he's always had some she doesn't say oh though he doesn't say oh for
00:00:56out like it just generally says on the data and nick's got a front front puncher as well i think
00:01:01from that or something at the front so he's not knocked off that uh that's going to be turning
00:01:05bone that's going to be the body we're pushing the air pushing the body work back into the tire
00:01:10into the front tire on the left hand side that's going to be very dangerous indeed he's still got to
00:01:13a half a lap to go as well no this is number seven cars running well enough now any challenges
00:01:19going down into the ford chicane down to the inside goes nicola lapierre takes ollie jarvis
00:01:24that's for fourth place jarvis uh jarvis struggling he seems much slower the last lap around
00:01:33should we don't unfortunately we don't know which tires these guys are on see if we can find out
00:01:37yeah it was a nice clean pass down the inside of ollie there at the end of the lap again rain that black
00:01:51cloud coming over from the west now it's a change of wind direction since last night
00:01:56yeah so damien um we're going to let you go for a while go and see what you can find out in the
00:02:05pits and uh martin haven returning to us thanks guys it's been a blast good i'll be back catch up
00:02:11later later yeah you will indeed we'll have you all through the night
00:02:21so this is still watching at the moment the battle for
00:02:28fourth position duval having been uh now just taken by lapierre as well so lapierre
00:02:35on a real charge at the moment and remember both these toyotas have yet to make their fourth stop
00:02:42making the most of their extra fuel three liters extra for all petrol p1s over the diesel powered
00:02:48audis and as we're getting ready jeremy for a toyota pit stop i couldn't quite see which one it was
00:02:54but they're all togged up and the mechanics getting ready to go out in the pit lane so it'll probably be
00:02:58the number eight car that's on the last stop that was the first one to pit that was on lap 38 now
00:03:05it's on lap 49 so once again wow just 11 laps yeah of course this round of pit stops perhaps
00:03:13these cars are a lot lighter at the moment because uh at the end of their fuel loads so
00:03:17whereas the audi is a not long fielder i don't know about half halfway through their stint now it's
00:03:21certainly the audi is going to make uh more pit stops than the toyota but the toyota just doesn't
00:03:26have the pace at this stage in the race to come close under last lap around though interesting
00:03:30to look at the lap times nicola lapierre to the three minutes whoa 41 as we see that was uh oliver
00:03:37jarvis i think wasn't it sliding white coming out of the mulsanne corner but uh just massive
00:03:44pace differentials at the moment clearly as you can see there is quite wet over on that side of the
00:03:49track that those are the two kings i think before indianapolis i believe
00:03:54uh as you can see the damage to the front of of nick heitfeld's rebellion lola toyota he brings that
00:04:02car into the pit lane and all sorts of debris farther back as well so he's a there's obviously some big
00:04:07spit big there's more to that spin at tertruge than uh was met by our eyes there's also another 40 car
00:04:14going around oh crikey it's you know tradition it's really tricky out there right now there's no question
00:04:19about it it's it's very easy to make a mistake yeah as soon as soon as these slick tires lose their
00:04:25heat there is no grip at all there's a road in unessi there making a see it again
00:04:33so there's the 24 car of uh alex brundle just ahead of him around he goes that's the 40 car just runs
00:04:40out of talent basically doesn't it yeah i'm afraid so he's very low speed i have to say he's in over his head
00:04:44here martin martin just briefly on that stracker dodged the bullet on that the first car on the
00:04:50scene and of course what have they not got any more of nose cones if he'd collected the spilling car
00:04:56that would have been the end of their race so nose or rear body work yeah no no they've lost a lot
00:05:01as long as he gets t-boned they're okay other than that driver change sebastian buemi getting into the
00:05:06number eight car and this car still in second place when anne davidson brought it in
00:05:12and it's interesting isn't it that they are looking like they're racing and it's going to be
00:05:18tomorrow morning before the fuel pays off for audi isn't it well i mean you know already the uh
00:05:27the uh the audi's about one more pit stop from toyota they come out of the pits already ahead of the
00:05:33uh toyota so you know it's really no contest at this stage in the game well all they got to do is keep
00:05:38doing that yeah yeah i know about 15 days yeah they're going to need some need some problems or
00:05:46they're going to need to up their pace or you have the more tricky conditions like this we saw last
00:05:49up around they were lapping around about in the 350s this minute 335 for each of the three leading
00:05:56cars number one number seven nicholas pierre and number two point juval in the second of the audi so
00:06:03at the moment nicholas pierre running in second place he will relinquish relinquish that when he
00:06:08comes into the pits presumably on the end of this lap let's just have a quick look at pro stefan mucker
00:06:15then for aston martin leading roman dumas for porsche and uh fred macker vicky for aston martin as well
00:06:22while down in am class it's uh matt griffin the man from dublin he's leading wolf hensler and uh
00:06:29who's that in the 55 car case old case that's uh i'm running out loranzo casser yeah yeah loranzo casser
00:06:36that's it so uh there's the the art art car number 45 philip mondelow at the wheel that car another of the
00:06:46le mans rookies running back in 31st place quick rundown we've got to benra trillier now driving
00:06:52number one car a handy lead 50 50 seconds plus over the battle for second that is joined at the moment
00:06:58between nicola lapierre and leut duval in the second of the audi's we can see that battle right there
00:07:02coming into mulsanne corner but to nicola lapierre expect to pit at the end of this lap
00:07:08in p2 alex brundle still still leads from lucas luo that's though because ricardo gonzalez has just made a
00:07:14pit stop in a number 35 oak racing machine mark yep i'm just looking further down that list uh nick
00:07:22manassian's in there i mean we've got some top names they haven't been running in that nick manassian
00:07:26at the moment in sixth place in p2 of course quite a lot of these drivers jan cheruz that they've all
00:07:31been the refugees from p1 programs that have finished perjot particularly i mean we still got the
00:07:37aftermath of perjot pulling out two years ago a lot of their drivers still looking for top drives and
00:07:41two very experienced drivers ryan briscoe and mike conway fourth and fifth in class as well in lmp2
00:07:48really making a race of this
00:08:11so
00:08:18so
00:08:20so
00:08:22so
00:08:32I don't know.
00:09:02There's a lot of people in the air.
00:09:04Yeah, I'll go there.
00:09:06There's a lot of people in the air.
00:09:08There's a lot of people in the air.
00:09:10Let's see what we're doing.
00:09:42Oh, my God.
00:10:12Welcome back to Eurosport's 24-hour coverage of Le Mans.
00:10:19As long as the race carries on, we'll be here talking about it to you.
00:10:22Looking at the battles in the GT-Class, that's the two frontrunners right at the front of the field.
00:10:28The Aston Martin art car, Stéphane Mucca taking over from Darren Turner, who started the car.
00:10:33And that Porsche, all those, what, five or six car legs behind Jeremy Shaw, Romain Dumas,
00:10:38and the Frenchman making a really big battle in what is probably his last GT race
00:10:44because he told us in qualifying he goes back to Wysak after this
00:10:48and dons his test driver hat for the LMP programme.
00:10:51Yes, he's very excited about that.
00:10:53Certainly just started development on that car just within the last week or so.
00:10:57There's a lot of excitement for Timo Bernhardt getting ready for next year.
00:11:03We just saw a glimpse of the Jota car, number 38, Lucas Lure, making a pit stop,
00:11:08coming in in second place in P2, with Ricardo Gonzalez having stopped in the old basic car a few laps ago.
00:11:15But what a job this has been by the Porsche AG Olive Manti team
00:11:20because this car is a brand new car this year, the 991 body shell,
00:11:25taken over from the traditional 911 RSR.
00:11:29And this car was caught behind the safety car.
00:11:34They have this, I think, strange and unnecessary three-paced car system here at Le Mans.
00:11:40I won't run to gain.
00:11:41But it was a minute and a half behind the leaders at the end of the first hour of this contest.
00:11:47But since then, these guys have charged on back onto the tail now of the lead,
00:11:51this battle for the lead, Stefan Luca and now Romain Dumas.
00:11:54In fact, that Porsche was behind the Aston
00:11:58and the first three in class were behind one safety car.
00:12:01It was the other Porsche that was in second place.
00:12:04And in fact, we had a pre-emptive safety car rant from Timo Bernhardt
00:12:07being interviewed in the pits saying,
00:12:08Ah, this is madness, which rather took the wind out of my sails,
00:12:11but we carried it on anyway.
00:12:13So this car was always in that lead group with the Aston.
00:12:16And it's the other one, the 991 car, which is out of touch,
00:12:21which dropped back that half a lap.
00:12:24Thank you for that correction.
00:12:25But what I mean, you know,
00:12:27titanic battles at the front of all the classes.
00:12:29We said almost from the beginning of practice,
00:12:31and certainly in the second days qualifying,
00:12:33if you're going to put money on any class,
00:12:36the only one I would even venture a bet on is the P1 class
00:12:39because Audi looked like they were head and shoulders above.
00:12:42Even now, I'm not entirely certain you want to put a lot of money on it.
00:12:46In LMP2, in GT Pro and in GTE Am,
00:12:50not a chance you're going to put any money on anybody
00:12:52because this can turn on the twist of a coin.
00:12:54I mean, it's so close now and in another 20 hours,
00:12:59it'll be just as close.
00:13:00Right, so it was just these three cars that are still out in front of the GT.
00:13:03Just the top three.
00:13:04And that's why their hegemony at the top of that leaderboard
00:13:07has been undiminished.
00:13:08Exactly.
00:13:08And that explains why the fourth place car is still that number 91 car.
00:13:13Yeah, because I had a long chat actually with Patrick Pile,
00:13:16who's driving number 91 car now in the garage
00:13:18during that safety car period.
00:13:21So, yeah, okay, am I mistaken?
00:13:23He's three, four minutes behind, you know,
00:13:25he's the better part of three quarters of a lap back.
00:13:28Yeah, simply because of the pace car system out here.
00:13:31And it's such a shame, I mean, you know, why are we racing?
00:13:33We're racing here for everybody, including the fans.
00:13:36The fans want to see a show.
00:13:37And for my money, the fans have been denied a show.
00:13:40We've only got three cars battling for the lead in GTE Pro,
00:13:44where we should have seven or eight.
00:13:47Yeah.
00:13:48Anyhow, rant's over.
00:13:49I remember Michael Andretti being very sanguine
00:13:53many years ago in IndyCar.
00:13:55It may well have been you or Jan Beekus
00:13:56that interviewed him after they'd lost the lead
00:13:58and almost a lap from a safety car.
00:14:00And he said, hey, them's the brakes.
00:14:02Yellows are going to happen.
00:14:03Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
00:14:05You can't get pissy about losing ground.
00:14:08And I agree entirely with you
00:14:09and John Hyndorf on Radio Le Mans.
00:14:11You know, we're all on the same hymn sheet, aren't we?
00:14:13Because we're all racing fans and we don't see with the modern technology
00:14:17that cars could have on board that it's necessary, but it exists.
00:14:22And so, like the teams, we just have to get on with it.
00:14:24And the same as the Audi here, working his way through traffic,
00:14:28flashing the headlights, dust just to be doubly-doubly short.
00:14:32And Oli Jarvis, great break for him to be promoted into Audi's prototype team.
00:14:38You know, he could have a very long and successful career.
00:14:42There's certainly no question that all of the three Audi trios coming here
00:14:47know that they've got a very good chance of winning this race.
00:14:50And first and foremost, of course, they want to win for Audi,
00:14:53but they don't want to be looking up at some other guys on that top step, right?
00:14:57Absolutely right. Absolutely right.
00:15:00So that battle in GTE Pro, it's still number 97,
00:15:06the Aston Martin 7-Walker driving.
00:15:07He's got a lead of about two and a half seconds now
00:15:10over Romain Dumas in kind of a 92.
00:15:13And in third place is Fred McEvacue,
00:15:14who's just turned the fastest lap in a GT at three minutes, 57.535,
00:15:20which is a pretty good lap at this stage in the race.
00:15:23And it's about 12 seconds between the top three in GTE.
00:15:27But enjoy watching Romain Dumas today,
00:15:29because the last time we'll see him in GT racing,
00:15:32he will stop along with Timo Bernhardt after this race.
00:15:35So unfortunately...
00:15:36And, Jeremy, I mean, those Penske Porsches,
00:15:39Romain Dumas, those giant-killing acts against Audi,
00:15:42I mean, never-to-be-forgotten motorsport images
00:15:44from the American Le Mans series.
00:15:46That's right.
00:15:46That was when P2, the cars were 150 kilograms lighter
00:15:50and had a lot more horsepower.
00:15:53So, yeah, I was talking to Ryan Briscoe about that a little while earlier, actually,
00:15:56and Lucas Lure as well.
00:15:58Yeah, Lucas.
00:15:59Yeah, you know, they love driving those cars, that's for certain.
00:16:01And they're so nearly one at the Goofy Seca.
00:16:03That was one of the unbelievable races, a whole bunch of great races that season.
00:16:07All of them that season.
00:16:08Well, that's what, you know, that's the Minis versus the Galaxies versus the Mark II Jags,
00:16:13isn't it?
00:16:13You love a giant-killing act.
00:16:15You like a guy who's got a little bit of get-up-and-go and gets-up-and-go.
00:16:20So, looking at the Murphy Prototypes car, running down the Le Mans Strait.
00:16:24Mark Patterson at the wheel of that car.
00:16:26They're just off page one in 25th spot.
00:16:28That puts them, what, 10th, 11th in their class.
00:16:31That very early long stop for Brendan Hartley behind the safety car or not cost them a lap.
00:16:36And, Jeremy, 23 hours, you need to get a lap back.
00:16:39You need everybody to slow down a bit and help you out.
00:16:42And the guys right behind aren't slowing down at all.
00:16:45Yeah, they're not, are they?
00:16:4613th place is that number 48 car, the Murphy Prototypes machine.
00:16:49But we've still got tier, what, at least eight or nine cars on the same lap in P2.
00:16:57Mike Conway actually just moved himself up into second place in that class.
00:17:00Yeah, British 1-2 after the pit stops behind it or in front of him.
00:17:04Yeah, he's got his way ahead now of Mike Conway.
00:17:08But I fancy number 24 car owes us a pit stop.
00:17:10Alex Brundle in the Oak Racing Machine, I think owes us a pit stop.
00:17:15He has made four stops already.
00:17:16Mike Conway in the number 26 car and Ricardo Gonzalez in car number 35 have both made one additional pit stop.
00:17:23So those two cars, those two, the Morgan and the Orica, yeah, the Orica and the Morgan, even in that order,
00:17:31are definitely in the green as far as pit stop allowances go.
00:17:36Looking here at Mark Patterson.
00:17:37Who's right behind him?
00:17:39Is that 31?
00:17:40Can't be the 31 car.
00:17:42Trying to identify who's behind.
00:17:44Oh, who's in fact now.
00:17:45They've both gone by him.
00:17:46So Patterson in the Murphy's prototypes, trying to stay on the dry line, trying to fight for position against LMP2 cars,
00:17:53trying not to get tripped over by an Audi as Stracker driver change underway.
00:18:00Danny Watts gets out and that'll be Johnny Kane getting in.
00:18:05They will.
00:18:05And when Danny brought that car into the pits, they were ahead of both of the Rebellion Toyotas.
00:18:11They've done well to come back.
00:18:12They had problems all the way through practice and qualifying.
00:18:14Had to start very much at the back of the grid in 36th position or something, I think it was.
00:18:20Yeah, 36th position.
00:18:21Worked themselves fairly quickly up into seventh place overall.
00:18:25And they will now drop behind the two Rebellion cars.
00:18:28But certainly now, after a difficult week, the Stracker HPD is almost at least on the part of the two Rebellion Toyotas.
00:18:37Talking of which, I have finally identified the car behind the green and white Murphy's men car.
00:18:42And that, of course, is Mino, Marino, Franchitti in the other HPD.
00:18:46That's the LMP2 HPD.
00:18:49Now, he is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8th in the LMP2 class.
00:18:55So, in fact, he is about to put a lap on the Murphy's car.
00:18:59So, Murphy's lost a lap to the leaders in class.
00:19:03And they're now going to be lapped by the guy that's 8th in class.
00:19:05And it must have been Patrick Niederhauser going by before it was, who's 7th in the LMP2 class.
00:19:16An early pit stop out of schedule for Murphy's.
00:19:20They've already done five stops.
00:19:21And I would assume, because one was for a puncture, they owe us a fuel stop.
00:19:25The Poussaint Gignon car, car number 40 there.
00:19:28That's again off the lead lap in the LMP2 class.
00:19:33Yeah, the number 26...
00:19:33In fact, that's three laps off the lead in the LMP2 class.
00:19:36They've had more spins, haven't they, than your average washing machine, I mean.
00:19:41Yeah, so it's got coffee, Liz has.
00:19:42The number 26 car, Mike Conway at the wheel of that car.
00:19:45That also had an unscheduled stop, a puncture for John Martin earlier in the race.
00:19:51But that car is still back now and running very, very strongly in second place in P2.
00:19:55And Marina Franchini is still on the lead lap.
00:19:57It's two minutes.
00:19:58Both he and Patrick Niederhauser in the 34 car.
00:20:02Marino in the number 33, still on the same lap as the leaders in P2, but more than two minutes behind.
00:20:10Next car on the road behind them is number 42 car of Lucas Ordonez.
00:20:16It's very interesting that Marino spent a lap now behind Mark Patterson and can't find the speed to get by.
00:20:21Oh, that's an oak car.
00:20:23That's the second car in class.
00:20:25Is that an out lap?
00:20:26Third car in class for Gonzales.
00:20:29No, it's not.
00:20:29It's not an out lap.
00:20:30In fact, he's been in three or four laps, hasn't he?
00:20:32Yeah, it was a little while ago that he made his stop.
00:20:34Yeah.
00:20:36Well, good to see Norbert Singer in the paddock yesterday, the man who was the legendary director of operations in the 956, 956, 962 era of Porsche.
00:20:46Utter domination at this race.
00:20:48And, of course, wearing an ACO shirt, so he is a poacher-turned-gamekeeper.
00:20:53When Porsche return, he'll be looking over his familiar spectacles at them from the other side of the fence, rather than from the Porsche garage.
00:21:01So that's going to be an interesting little dynamic between he who knows all the old tricks and they, who are trying to invent some new ones that maybe he hasn't quite worked out yet.
00:21:11So, let's see.
00:21:12Let's see.
00:21:13Let's see.
00:21:14Let's see.
00:21:15Let's see.
00:21:16Oh, my God.
00:21:46Oh, my God.
00:22:16Oh, my God.
00:22:46Oh, my God.
00:23:16Oh, my God.
00:23:46Oh, my God.
00:23:48Oh, my God.
00:23:50Oh, my God.
00:23:52Oh, my God.
00:23:54Oh, my God.
00:23:56Oh, my God.
00:23:58Oh, my God.
00:24:00Oh, my God.
00:24:02Oh, my God.
00:24:04Oh, my God.
00:24:06Oh, my God.
00:24:08Oh, my God.
00:24:10Oh, my God.
00:24:12Oh, my God.
00:24:18Oh, my God.
00:24:20Oh, my God.
00:24:22Oh, my God.
00:24:25yeah there was nowhere to go there really was there no 96 car was an evicted there 26 26
00:24:32car wasn't it mike conway down the inside carried him too much speed into the apex
00:24:37huge amism to the porsche team and took the number 96 car right off the road
00:24:42lucas then just talking about lucas and the penske porsches and there he is uh yeah running
00:24:49out of talent or something several several spins there ironically the sun just came out i think for
00:24:54the first time in well this week i'm just looking out the back porthole and i can see blue sky
00:25:02and we don't expect any more rain in the next few hours pascal baston there we don't expect
00:25:08any more rain in the next few hours the message to sebastian bohemi in carnivore eight we can't
00:25:14see any cars in the field so let's wait and see although actually toyota were brought up short
00:25:20on twitter because they said you promised that when it started to rain somebody said
00:25:24you promised us rain in 15 minutes and it's here already electronics are always been very good
00:25:30actually with their meteor of course that's that's the hang hangover from the uh formula formula one
00:25:36days basically the same team it's also a direct link to of course what we have across the road from us
00:25:41which is an airport yep they have the the the uber word crikey o'riley that's close and a thing
00:25:48called windows where we can see the sky and we can see if it's black blue or white yeah the sunshine
00:25:54that sun is out at the moment and toyota tell us no rain for the next few hours so let's believe them
00:25:59and here's the number eight car uh that is at the moment on the hands of sebastian bohemi running fourth
00:26:04best of the two toyotas alex verts is on board the other one and then behind them the two rebellions
00:26:09and johnny kane just taken over a few minutes ago from danny watts so all the p1 cars have been
00:26:16quadruple stinting their drivers and tires
00:26:29so we've got a bit of a battle going on for second place we haven't seen in a while
00:26:34benoit trellier still leads by about 50 50-odd seconds over oliver jarvis in car number three but
00:26:40lloyd duval uh has been closed the avenue just came into the pit lane we're looking here at the
00:26:46imsa mama porsche third in the gte am class and right behind him oh here's number two audi completes its
00:26:56pit stop fuel only uh third in gtm class just come out but she's keyboard and right behind him
00:27:04palo roberti in the porsche not too far away so only 10 laps that time i reckon for
00:27:12car number two no i like it came in last time on lap 45 so it's now 56 so 11 laps once again
00:27:19for the number two audi uh regular service there just fuel only nothing more than that big lock up
00:27:27by oliver jarvis oh and uh driver number 32 car who's driving that lotus right now he thought that's
00:27:35a jolly good idea jean charu uh that's a jolly good idea i'll go through there as well thank you very
00:27:39much dives down into the escape road oh look at that the moment ollie touched the brakes he knew it
00:27:46wasn't on did he the instant we talked about temperatures in carbon brakes and in tires
00:27:53was that the fronts just locking up instantly because they'd lost so much temperature on the
00:27:57straight until that moment as well he'd been the fastest man on the track of 327 in the uh
00:28:03last few laps duval almost matching him uh within a one a hundredth of a second now we saw the jota
00:28:10sport spinning while you were on a break and he has come in because presumably his tires are now
00:28:16more flats than they are around you know that's lucas still on board that car because yeah
00:28:21now he's given away one two three places four places i think in class by coming into the pits
00:28:33high speed fuel save like that which my mercedes would do that in comes our race leader then car number
00:28:41one benoit trellier and the comforting voice of lena gage she's got he's one of this one of the i
00:28:48think the unsung secrets of a race engineer is no matter how much of a drama it is to be able to just
00:28:55calmly give the information that's fine like for instance if you watched the film last year ben rocky
00:29:03is fine carry on just like us right yeah yeah just like us let's just say a word about lena and her
00:29:08cohorts at audi of course all products of technical colleges and mathematical geniuses silverstone
00:29:15university technical college which opens in september they're going to try and emulate uh what lena's
00:29:21done they're getting young people together to be race engineers to be uh involved in all aspects of
00:29:26racing neil patterson's been recruited as principal he's come from mclaren he designed the uh mclaren
00:29:32mercedes the the gold ring and uh neil is now there at utc quick message from the manti porsche team
00:29:42and just just to confirm they are attracting 14 year olds from all over britain to come to this
00:29:48university technical college 14 to 18 the college and they will do the national curriculum of education
00:29:54alongside technical engineering about race management all sorts of things like this and
00:29:59it's a very intensive four term a year course opens in september at silverstone it's been built on the
00:30:05circuit there's a there's a great educational opportunities these days in this sport there's
00:30:09there's that's the program there's we get there's various other programs being going on at other
00:30:14universities around the country there's also if if you want to be a driver an engineer uh a journalist
00:30:20anything there's another website called the www.safeisfast.com which is which is supported by
00:30:26the fia institute for motorsport safety uh and it's called safeisfast.com there's all sorts of
00:30:32instructional videos there if you want to look at if you want to learn some tips about how to find
00:30:36sponsorship how do you want to improve your braking techniques learn about fitness in the sport all
00:30:41sorts of great opportunities safeisfast.com four hours in audi one two three at le mans in the lmp2 class
00:30:49martin brundle in the oak racing morgan leads in the gte class it's a 97 aston martin that leads by a
00:30:56quarter of a second stefan mucker ahead of fred macchiavici who's now second in the other aston as
00:31:02roman dumas has dropped down to third spot a change of place there on the last lap and in the gte am class
00:31:09as the next page scrolls up hooray for ireland because matt griffin is leading in the number 61
00:31:15ferrari 458 in second in that class lorenzo carze in the 55 ferrari and patrice gibbon in a porsche
00:31:23in third spot so very good indeed to see matt griffin uh his car at the front of the field and we have
00:31:31lost uh two confirmed drivers the 50 uh 95 aston martin uh we have lost that car the lotus number 31
00:31:40and kevin vida was pulled behind the barriers so even if it does somehow get back on track i'm not
00:31:46entirely sure it will be allowed to continue in the race four hours in a mere 20 still to go benoit
00:31:51trellier the race leader in number one in number two position is car number two loik duval and in
00:31:59position number three is car number three sebastian buemi and we're rejoined by liz halliday liz audi one
00:32:06is first audi two is second audi three is third how very germanic of them yes well at the beginning
00:32:13of the race i think uh they had us all very excited because toyota was charging ahead maybe just trying
00:32:17to prove a bit of a point but now it seems to have gone back into an audi processional which is just how
00:32:22they like it down there interesting isn't it because we thought that maybe at the start of the race that
00:32:27the audis were only going to be able to do 10 laps on a stint of fuel and the toyota is probably going
00:32:32to be able to do 12 possibly 13. i think that was uh unlikely but now it seems the out is regularly
00:32:39turning 11 lapsed in so uh it's certainly an advantage for them but i don't think it's enough
00:32:45of a disadvantage uh so to speak that the toyota team can overcome i i don't i don't think they can
00:32:51no i think you're right i'm sure that's something that will have made toyota a little bit unhappy
00:32:55because i think they were quite hopeful they might have two extra laps on them so yeah well they
00:33:00weren't very happy down there when i was around in the pits that's for sure they weren't feeling
00:33:03very cheery the good news is that number seven car clears had a couple of problems early on
00:33:08and at one stage alex works uh it was uh nicola lapier ground to a halt out of the molsan
00:33:13straight but thankfully able to get that restarted again and he's now running strongly he's in
00:33:18in fifth place uh but he's only actually about eight seconds behind oliver jarvis who's just
00:33:23completed service in car number three yeah i think it was a bit of a a fuel system problem that they
00:33:29had on the circuit i don't know if you're aware of that but that's what i got told and they were
00:33:32able to get the car restarted and then it seemed to be fine so did control alt delete works then as
00:33:37so often yeah like like everything else computerized turn it off turn it back on again let us know what
00:33:41happens yeah well again we still have not found out oh look at that aviating our car we still have
00:33:47not got a mirror my goodness that's hyper slow-mo watch when it touches down and the shimmer goes
00:33:54through the body we still haven't found out how far it will go on the electric drive that was a perfect
00:34:01opportunity to show it off to us of course much quicker if you can get the engine restarted anyway
00:34:05it is still audi one two three and toyota giving chase
00:34:35is
00:34:38is
00:34:41is
00:34:43is
00:34:49is
00:34:55is
00:34:57is
00:35:31I don't know.
00:36:01I don't know.
00:36:31I don't know.
00:36:41Martin Haven, Liz Halliday and Jeremy Clarkson, apparently.
00:36:46How can you possibly mistake Jeremy Foreshaw for Jeremy Clarkson?
00:36:50Who's on that?
00:36:51Say in the world.
00:36:52What?
00:36:53In the world.
00:36:55In the what?
00:36:55No, never mind.
00:36:56You see?
00:36:57He's mistaken.
00:36:58I don't know.
00:36:59We have some very strange listeners.
00:37:00And welcome back to Le Mans on Eurosport.
00:37:03I'd much rather be commentating next to this Jeremy rather than Jeremy Clarkson.
00:37:06No offense to Jeremy Clarkson, but, you know, I've worked with him before.
00:37:10He's not here.
00:37:11Oh, but he is.
00:37:13If you're listening, Jeremy Clarkson, you know, you're a lovely guy.
00:37:17On board with the Audi now in fourth place after Oli Jarvis made a fuel stop.
00:37:21Sebastian Bummi's Toyota moves up to third behind Audi's number one and Audi number two.
00:37:25And our LNP2 leader on pit road, Alex Brundle, will stay in.
00:37:30They were going to double, double, double the guys.
00:37:32So, double stint, change tyres, double stint, get out.
00:37:37And Mike Conway now vaults back to the top.
00:37:40And this is a real seesaw battle because as Gonzalez now moves up to second,
00:37:45David Hanemeyer Hansen gets into the number 24 car.
00:37:49So, from what Baby Brundle was told, or what he told us he was told,
00:37:53they don't seem to be doing double, double eaches.
00:37:55They're doing a double stint and out.
00:37:58I got the impression that he meant they were doing a double stint,
00:38:00change tyres, double stint and then get out.
00:38:02So, four stints in a row while they were young and fresh.
00:38:05It's very possible that some of this has all been thrown out of the water
00:38:08because the conditions were so odd.
00:38:10I mean, everybody I talked to was going,
00:38:12well, we're going to try and leave the one driver in
00:38:15while we're figuring out what tyre we're going to end up on.
00:38:18Because they were all expecting to be on splits.
00:38:27Yeah, I guess he is just about.
00:38:30They were just telling him to maintain the pace he's doing
00:38:32because he's got a decent lead ahead of Audi at the moment.
00:38:36We're decent enough anyway.
00:38:37So, you never hear that in Formula One.
00:38:38You know that thing you're doing? Keep on doing it.
00:38:41That's a cool shot, isn't it?
00:38:42That's a great shot.
00:38:43These helicopter shots just show you what this is.
00:38:47It's a public road in the middle of beautiful rolling farmland.
00:38:51And once a year, it becomes the greatest amphitheatre for motor racing
00:38:55the world has ever known.
00:38:56I think I can tell you partly why they don't do that in Formula One
00:38:59because the races are not 24 hours.
00:39:01And some of this is going to be, you can tell by the lap times,
00:39:03they're not doing, you know, qualifying lap times.
00:39:07They're not doing their absolute fastest possible.
00:39:09So, they're going to say to him,
00:39:10the pace you're doing now is working.
00:39:12So, stay there.
00:39:13Which is that little bit safer than qualifying.
00:39:16Slow car on the track.
00:39:17Car number 33.
00:39:19Slow on the run between Arnage and the Porsche Curve.
00:39:23And that's Merino-Francini.
00:39:24Well, Mino was struggling to get by the lapped number 48 car of Mark Patterson.
00:39:30Still hasn't, I think.
00:39:32And I wonder whether that's, well,
00:39:34a slow car is never good news for the team, is it?
00:39:37No, that's really not.
00:39:38I mean, we don't know what's happened yet.
00:39:40We hope to find out.
00:39:40Well, now, here's our new leader.
00:39:42Let's see if we can get a really close look at the number 26 car.
00:39:46Don't forget Mike Conway, IndyCar racer,
00:39:49but a rookie here at Le Mans.
00:39:50And I've forgotten to tweet it.
00:39:53He has got a great, unique helmet.
00:39:55His helmet has been painted
00:39:56as if it is an old-fashioned leather helmet with chin strap
00:39:59and with a scarf around the bottom of the face
00:40:02and goggles pushed up on the top of the helmet
00:40:05and squashed flyers on the front of it.
00:40:07Fantastic.
00:40:07I've never seen that.
00:40:08And the goggle strap that goes around the back
00:40:10has got a painted on bit of gaffer tape to hold it on.
00:40:12Brilliant.
00:40:13And the Belle helmet logo is peeling off
00:40:15and it's just a wonderful piece of artwork.
00:40:18And it's enough that you've got a guy
00:40:20who's coming into an amphitheatre
00:40:22with so much focus on it, as Le Mans does,
00:40:25in a team he's never driven with,
00:40:27in things he's never done,
00:40:29and he's had the presence of mind months ago
00:40:31to commission somebody to paint him a special helmet.
00:40:35What a great, great game.
00:40:37Do we know who did the helmet?
00:40:38No, I don't.
00:40:39I would love to give them a big up.
00:40:40If any of you out there know who painted his helmet,
00:40:42please tweet us and let us know
00:40:44because we'd love to give them a little big up on air.
00:40:45Alan Docking was gleefully showing it to us this morning,
00:40:48watching his journey,
00:40:49and he was saying when he comes down pit road,
00:40:51it genuinely looks as though he's pushed the goggles
00:40:53up onto the top of his helmet
00:40:54as he's been slowing down.
00:40:55Fantastic.
00:40:56Great, great work of art.
00:40:58Tell you what, we've got a battle going on now in GT.
00:41:01With a bit of luck, we're going to have a look at that.
00:41:03We've got Stefan Walker still leads in car number seven,
00:41:05the Aston Martin,
00:41:06but now up into second place.
00:41:08It's his teammate, Fred McAvecky.
00:41:10He qualified that car on the pole
00:41:12for the second year in a row.
00:41:13He did the same in the Ferrari
00:41:15for a luxury racing one year ago.
00:41:17Now he does it again for Aston Martin.
00:41:19Almost a whole second clear of anybody else in the class.
00:41:22And he's done the same in this stint, Fred McAvecky.
00:41:25He's taken over the wheel of the number 99.
00:41:28He's passed the number 92 Porsche of Romain Dumas
00:41:31and he's now almost onto the tail
00:41:33of his teammate, Stefan Mooker.
00:41:35And two seconds, a lot faster that last one.
00:41:38That's an impressive gap.
00:41:39Meanwhile, fuel for Jonathan Bomarito
00:41:41in the second of the SRT cars.
00:41:45And SRT is to Chrysler what AMG is to Mercedes, if you like.
00:41:50It's the high-performance tuning arm.
00:41:52There is no Dodge Viper.
00:41:53But it is only an SRT Viper.
00:41:56And what is the damage on the nose of that Ferrari?
00:41:59As he turns in across the Aston Martin,
00:42:01there might be damage on the tail.
00:42:02The class leader.
00:42:02Yeah.
00:42:03Is that 71?
00:42:04Yes.
00:42:05Just a lap down.
00:42:06A lap down.
00:42:06Yeah.
00:42:06A lap down.
00:42:07And shall we name names?
00:42:09Kamui Kobayashi, the famous card player.
00:42:12Really?
00:42:13I was talking to the PR girl at Ferrari.
00:42:15And I said, how's he going?
00:42:17She said, it's so chilled.
00:42:18I've never known so chilled a team.
00:42:21She said, I just was in the hospitality unit.
00:42:24Kamui Kobayashi is there playing cards with his friends and family.
00:42:27Looks at me and goes, do you know when I'm in?
00:42:29No, don't look at me.
00:42:30I'm in the Piaga.
00:42:31I'm sure they'll get me when they need me.
00:42:33How unformular one has he become in about three weeks?
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:36And that number 71 card, don't forget,
00:42:38that served a penalty for an incident on pit lane
00:42:41in the early stages of the race for unsafe release.
00:42:44Had to do a stop and go.
00:42:45So that's why he's a lap down and charging hard,
00:42:47trying to get that lap back.
00:42:48And that's one way of doing it.
00:42:50Chopping across the front of the Aston Martin.
00:42:51But meanwhile, Fred Makaveki,
00:42:53I mean, that three minutes, 54.639 last time,
00:42:56that's a new lap record, track record, race record
00:43:00for GTE Pro for the Frenchmen.
00:43:03That's pretty impressive.
00:43:05That shows how fast those Aston Martins are.
00:43:08And Kamui on the dirt, a lap behind.
00:43:11This is the lead battle.
00:43:13One is through.
00:43:14Look at Makaveki.
00:43:14Great classic over-under.
00:43:17Team Raider, Kamui, please let the Aston by.
00:43:22Wow, no, this is real racing.
00:43:24And what you've just seen there is what LeMoy is all about.
00:43:26We've got an LMP2 car that was coming through.
00:43:29Three GT cars racing and a GTE Am car, I think,
00:43:32in front that they were trying to get past.
00:43:34So this is anybody that thinks this is processional racing is crazy.
00:43:38Now, how long has Stefan Mook have been in?
00:43:40Because Fred Makaveki has only been in relatively recently.
00:43:44Is Mook are getting to the end of the stage?
00:43:46Is Mako on fresher tyres?
00:43:48Oh, look at that.
00:43:50Do you know what?
00:43:50That's why he drove a Formula 1 car the way he did,
00:43:53because he's got reflexes to die for, Kamui.
00:43:55No, I don't think Stefan Mook is coming to the end yet,
00:43:58unless they're doing shorter stints,
00:43:59because when I was in pit lane,
00:44:00he was getting ready to get in the car.
00:44:02And that was probably only about an hour and a half ago.
00:44:05But I would expect...
00:44:05Two coffees ago.
00:44:06I would expect...
00:44:06Yeah, exactly.
00:44:07Or three.
00:44:08I would expect that team to keep them in for quite a long time.
00:44:13Now that the conditions are cool,
00:44:14they're finally on slick tyres,
00:44:15I would expect them to be in for quite a long stint.
00:44:19Good call from Liz Halliday.
00:44:21Oli Jarvis closing in on Sebastian Buemi.
00:44:24Is this a change for second?
00:44:26And yet another fastest sector time.
00:44:29Not yet over the brow into the Porsche curves.
00:44:32Very polished just before turning.
00:44:35Blue lights flashing.
00:44:35They've got a crone Ferrari.
00:44:37They've got the KRP, KPR, KPM, whatever it is.
00:44:42KCMG.
00:44:43No, that's not the KCMG car.
00:44:45DKR.
00:44:46Yeah, that's it.
00:44:47The DKR.
00:44:49Really, the Aston...
00:44:50The Aston...
00:44:51The Audi...
00:44:53Oh, you're too.
00:44:53I know.
00:44:54Are you all right there, Martin?
00:44:55The Audi caught him in all sorts of the wrong places, didn't he?
00:44:58And through he goes, but he's lost.
00:45:01Who was that coming in the pit lane?
00:45:02They just go on the dirt.
00:45:03No.
00:45:04Right in front of us.
00:45:05Where is he right there?
00:45:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:45:06Oh, it's an Aston.
00:45:07No, really.
00:45:08No, it's not.
00:45:08It's a Viper.
00:45:09It's a Viper.
00:45:09It's the Viper.
00:45:10Oh, who's in?
00:45:12Dominic Farnbacher.
00:45:13Oh, Dominic.
00:45:14Oh, really?
00:45:15Second best hair in the field.
00:45:17He's a very good driver.
00:45:18And he's stuck in the gravel as well.
00:45:19Yes, he has.
00:45:20I think...
00:45:21Oh, change of the lead in GTA Pro.
00:45:23Let's stop looking above our screens and out of the window.
00:45:26And hurrah, Fred MacIuvicki.
00:45:28Good move on Stefan Mooker.
00:45:30Change of lead.
00:45:32Hey, Olivier, our producer, is doing a staggering job so far with the pictures.
00:45:37Fabulous.
00:45:38Yeah.
00:45:39Now, the chief of production here is responsible.
00:45:42The chief producer here is responsible for our world touring car pictures, also in Eurosport.
00:45:46But doing a really great job here.
00:45:48I've got to say, heads up to these guys.
00:45:50And look at how much gaffer takes already on the front of that 53 car.
00:45:54He's not got an engine, has he?
00:45:57Oh, no.
00:45:57Well, he's going to be happy.
00:45:59Well, now, he is in a dangerous position.
00:46:02So, they will have to retrieve him from that.
00:46:04And he should be able to get back to the pit lane.
00:46:07Meanwhile, lead battle is all over the Oak that is now...
00:46:12It is...
00:46:12That is now the leader in class, isn't it?
00:46:15The 35 Oak Morgan racing car.
00:46:18It is Ricardo Gonzalez driving that car now.
00:46:23David Heinemar Hansen taking over the wheel of the number 24 car.
00:46:27And Pierre Tyriere up to third place in the P2 class now in the TDS by Tyriere.
00:46:34All new.
00:46:36All new.
00:46:36TDS by Tyriere racing car.
00:46:37All new-ish.
00:46:38All new to them.
00:46:39Indeed.
00:46:40Now, there was an Aston Corvette battle just there.
00:46:46What are we missing?
00:46:48Dominic Farmback has just dropped to another place.
00:46:50So, they did have to rescue him.
00:46:53Now, the question is, can he get it going?
00:46:55If he can, he can get back into the pit lane.
00:46:57Oh!
00:46:59No.
00:46:59Sorry, I thought that was the driver right in front of us.
00:47:02It wasn't.
00:47:02It was one of the rescue crews.
00:47:03He's walking around.
00:47:04Wow, he would have had to run pretty far.
00:47:05Well, no, he's got quite groovy hair as well.
00:47:07And it's the same colour.
00:47:08He's not quite as groovy as Dominic's, though.
00:47:10Not quite as groovy, no.
00:47:11And Dominic Farmback, who I actually only just met recently the other day.
00:47:15I've raced against him for years.
00:47:16Nicest guy.
00:47:17Oh, yeah.
00:47:17Absolutely lovely.
00:47:18I have to say, I'll give him that really, really great guy.
00:47:20He's still your beating heart at Germany.
00:47:23I am married.
00:47:24He'd put that car on the pole position at Long Beach.
00:47:27So, look at this battle here.
00:47:28For third, here he comes.
00:47:29A lap ago, traffic got in the way of Oli Jarvis.
00:47:32But now it doesn't.
00:47:33He gets Sebastian Buemi in his sights.
00:47:35He's dead to right.
00:47:36And through he goes.
00:47:38And, Liz, not the easiest place to go by on the run into Indianapolis.
00:47:42Oh, definitely not.
00:47:43One of the highest speed corners in the entire circuit.
00:47:46Really brave to be going through there.
00:47:47I'd put that up there with passing on the first bit of the Porsche curves.
00:47:51Big cojones.
00:47:52Big cojones.
00:47:53Big cojones for Oli Jarvis.
00:47:54And, again, you know, who knew when he was this willow kid in single-seaters that he might end up contending to win Le Mans.
00:48:02He didn't.
00:48:03That's for sure.
00:48:05The lights will change on that Toyota.
00:48:06So, they'll go off and Oli Jarvis will suddenly spout three red lights.
00:48:11Third place now, Audi 1, 2, 3 at Le Mans.
00:48:14Go, go, go, go, go.
00:48:15Go, go, go, go, go.
00:48:15Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
00:51:14How far are they behind Matteo Malicelli, which is basically the leader, the 51 Ferrari, in the group that was behind the second safety car, if you like, in the second group of GTE cars.
00:51:26Right, we'll have to wait until they're coming through the Porsche curves now.
00:51:28Two minutes nearly, I reckon.
00:51:30Yeah, it took quite a while.
00:51:31Yellow flights we've got.
00:51:32But this is the battle for fourth and fifth place in GT, and actually closing in behind them also, I think, that was Patrick Pile as well.
00:51:41Yeah, there he is.
00:51:42We'll see yellows in a minute, because it's right down at the last corner.
00:51:46Oh, my Lord, that's the Murphy's car.
00:51:48Very close.
00:51:49Another car was escaping.
00:51:51I wonder if something's down.
00:51:53No, there were two cars off there.
00:51:54Corvette's in the pit lane, so that takes the pressure off Bill Orbelin for a moment, although, of course, there does seem to be Patrick Pile's Porsche there as well, jumping the kerb.
00:52:02So, yeah, for about one corner there, as he saw the, yeah, the Aston Pile's off great.
00:52:07Oh, my Lord, there's a Porsche there too.
00:52:10And Patrick Pile was looking forward to being out there on slick tires, and he's definitely pushing hard.
00:52:14Here we go.
00:52:15This is the battle for fifth place.
00:52:23Wow.
00:52:24And around there goes the Toyota.
00:52:28Oh.
00:52:29Down the inside, the Alamacnish line.
00:52:31And look how much quicker the prototypes are.
00:52:33Just see you later.
00:52:34And, you know, these GT cars that look pedestrian when a prototype goes by, compared to anything you've ever driven or been driven in on the road, would scare you witless with their grip and speed in corners and braking and acceleration.
00:52:50And yet, the prototypes blow by like their milk floats.
00:52:53And you should actually understand how fast they are through the S's.
00:52:57I mean, once you've exited the Dunlop chicane, it is absolutely flat to the board through the S's in a prototype.
00:53:02But in a GT, I'm sure they're going to have to give it a little bit of a breathe in some of them.
00:53:06Got the inside line.
00:53:07The average lap speed for the GT e-cars around here is 130 miles an hour.
00:53:14Average, bearing in mind.
00:53:15Average speed for the GT car.
00:53:16Bearing in mind how slow some of these corners are.
00:53:19I mean, isn't that amazing?
00:53:20That's just a staggering.
00:53:22A GT car, and the average of 130 miles an hour is exactly as you say, how slow many of these corners are.
00:53:28And I think the reason for that is that we've got these very, very long straights here at Le Mans that are very, very fast.
00:53:33And also corners like Indianapolis and the Porsche curves are very fast throughout.
00:53:38I mean, really, you never drop out of fifth and fourth gear through the Porsche curves.
00:53:41Now, to show how far these cars drop behind with the second safety car, this is the battle for fifth, right?
00:53:49You've seen what's behind them.
00:53:50Yes, I did.
00:53:51I was just about to say that.
00:53:52Former leader who just came into the pits and came back out.
00:53:56What I'm really happy about, though, is that we're having a real battle in GTE Pro and in AM.
00:54:01I was really worried that with how strong the Aston Martins had been, I was afraid we weren't going to have that fabulous battle that we had last year.
00:54:08But I think we're still going to have one right to the end.
00:54:10Oh, it's not our sole Lotus.
00:54:12It's our number 12 rebellion.
00:54:13And in fact, it's Fred Makoviki who just took the lead of the GTE Pro class to go back to the Aston Martin that was dropped behind.
00:54:20He just lost the lead again by going straight into the pits.
00:54:23But I mean, that's the way you race.
00:54:25You race hard every lap, no matter whether it's an in-lap or not.
00:54:28If you pass somebody, damn it, you're going to get past them.
00:54:31Peacom car of Lewis Perez Compact.
00:54:33And right behind him, Lucas Lohr in the Jota Sport car.
00:54:37Jota won the three-hour race at Silverstone, which was truncated to only an hour and a half of racing by rain and an eventual red flag.
00:54:46That was their first major sports car win.
00:54:49So they come here with a big, big feather in their cap.
00:54:52And they're battling at the moment for fifth position in that class.
00:54:58Dr. Lewis, the conditions out there are quite tricky.
00:55:00What is the feedback from the drivers?
00:55:03Yeah, as you say, it is really tricky.
00:55:07And for many hours now, the track condition changed during one lap several times.
00:55:14So I think it's a really, really tough job for the drivers.
00:55:18And the ones that left the car now, they really are tired and really are stressed because it was not easy to stay on the racetrack under these conditions.
00:55:28Well, just to thank the flood of Twitter viewers who are listening to us here on Eurosport and know a lot more than we do, apparently it was UK-based designer Jason Fowler at Jason Fowler, JLF, who did Mike Conway's helmet.
00:55:48Wonderful.
00:55:48So, yeah, stunning piece of kit.
00:55:51So, Lizzie, next time you need it.
00:55:52Yeah, exactly.
00:55:53When you want a hard hat for riding, you can get one done to make it look like you're on Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
00:55:57Well, I am, in fact, going to get a new racing helmet in.
00:55:59And I will perhaps go there.
00:56:01Well, you can follow him on Twitter as well.
00:56:03So, awesome job by that.
00:56:05And for those who wanted to ask, we're talking about rookie Mike Conway, who's had the presence of mind to have a special Le Mans helmet made to make him look like one of the great old men of Le Mans.
00:56:16Looking at the battle of the number two Audi and behind him, Peacom versus Murphy.
00:56:24Now, the Murphy's car was backwards last time.
00:56:27It came past us.
00:56:29And the Murphy's car is still a lap down.
00:56:33Mike Patterson has just gone in and out of the pit.
00:56:35Oh, he's just gone into the pits.
00:56:37How can we see him on screen?
00:56:39Incidentally, Stefan Mooker in that last lap has just done his fastest lap so far.
00:56:44Oh, sorry.
00:56:44It is the Jota car.
00:56:45It is a battle for position.
00:56:47It is Lucas Lour, ex-Audi factory driver, ex-Porsche factory driver.
00:56:51And before an Audi factory driver, he was a Porsche factory driver then as well.
00:56:56And hasn't been a BMW factory driver yet.
00:56:59But it's time then.
00:57:00With the Jota, takes away 15 class from Lewis Perez Compank.
00:57:07It is David Hannemeyer-Hanson who leads in the Morgan, the Oat Morgan.
00:57:12And Fred Mako back in the pits.
00:57:19No, no, it's not.
00:57:20He's in the golf car, of course.
00:57:21Mooker.
00:57:22Yes, Stefan Mooker, sorry, in the art car.
00:57:24Yes, I'm getting my astance again.
00:57:26Apparently, I'm getting my Brundle's confused.
00:57:27Apparently, when I said Alex, it sounded on the television as though I said Martin.
00:57:33No, you didn't.
00:57:34You said Alex.
00:57:34Definitely.
00:57:35I'll back you up on that one.
00:57:36Apparently, numerous times, people heard Martin.
00:57:38So, either my brain isn't working or their brains aren't working.
00:57:42And only some of us are drinking alcohol and it ain't us.
00:57:44A couple of notes here from Twitter.
00:57:47Colin Fisher says, as usual, would we be good enough to give out a mention to the boys and
00:57:52girls of the Clubman's Register who are here this weekend?
00:57:55Clubman's, of course, a classic English category of racing.
00:57:59No chance of that, I don't think.
00:58:00No, no more.
00:58:00Sorry about that, but we tried.
00:58:02Tell you what, one of my fondest memories was with the Clubman's Cars.
00:58:06We had an outing to Zandvoort, middle 80s, and boy, that was a fun experience.
00:58:10We were racing there along with the European Formula 3 cars, Gerhard Berger, Emmanuelle Pirro,
00:58:16amongst others.
00:58:18And our car, I was lucky enough to drive on a few Chamberlain's Cars that weekend.
00:58:21It was so much fun.
00:58:22And our cars were about a second slower than the Formula 3 cars.
00:58:26Budgetary difference, quite a lot.
00:58:28Amount of alcohol consumed during the weekend, quite a lot.
00:58:32I'm sure it was down to machinery, absolutely.
00:58:35And I'll tell Hugh that next time.
00:58:36That was the only time I've ever seen you in a race was in a Clubman's car at Silverstone.
00:58:41You were racing the likes of Will Hoy, late Will Hoy, Crichton Brown, Ray Malek.
00:58:46Yeah, some really, really great races.
00:58:50And great engine.
00:58:51And, of course, it was Arthur Malek, Ray's dad, who created Clubman's by building his
00:58:57flood of Clubman's cars, the Malek dynasty of cars, by building his first ever U2, which
00:59:04Ray rebuilt in the factory a couple of years ago and went out and raced and scared himself
00:59:09silly.
00:59:09And so...
00:59:10I was lucky enough also to have the original Mark 9 Formula Ford car they drove as we see
00:59:15the number 93.
00:59:15Yes.
00:59:1653 Viper into the pits.
00:59:17So got retrieved from the gravel and he has managed to get it going as well, Jonathan
00:59:21Bomberito.
00:59:21And, ah, that would be a battery going in.
00:59:24So part of the issue was that it wouldn't restart.
00:59:27Also gravel removal, it looks like.
00:59:29Right now you can hear a hoover going and I think they're actually hoovering out the
00:59:32gravel.
00:59:32Well, now, see, here's the thing.
00:59:34If you bring the car back full of gravel, I'm suggesting it should be the driver that
00:59:38hoovers it out.
00:59:39So Dominic Farmbacher should be using that to hoover out his own muck from the car.
00:59:45His demise, of course, moves a few AM cars further up the order.
00:59:50But I would think the Viper will go back out.
00:59:53They're trying to do everything they can to get that car back out.
00:59:56And, of course, for those of you who may just be joining us...
