00:03:09Oh, my God.
00:03:11Oh, my God.
00:03:13Oh, my God.
00:03:15Oh, my God.
00:03:17Oh, my God.
00:03:19Oh, my God.
00:03:21Oh, my God.
00:03:23Oh, my God.
00:03:25Oh, my God.
00:03:27Oh, my God.
00:03:29Oh, my God.
00:03:31at the same kind of pace and it's the same margin for error as well tell me about uh mark patterson
00:03:36he he is of course the father of the field 61 years of age has he got a painting upstairs
00:03:42or something because that man looks in such good yeah i think that's a long life of clean living
00:03:48i think uh it looks like nobody in the booth here has experienced clean living for a while
00:03:54if you look after yourself and eat the right food and exercise regularly yourself murphy
00:03:58i was going to say damien is actually not far too oh there he is greg first of all i want to ask
00:04:05do you have my number my car yeah why haven't you called me we used to communicate i can't let
00:04:11you do it in public this is a job application going on before our very ears well i i i we we have
00:04:18spoken we spoke about a uh a certain ten laps um but i think it was too late this year to get the
00:04:23there was yeah and then i decided i'm going to do them next year you're going to break the promise
00:04:29greg you took an extraordinarily early pit was that because your sensor problems were showing
00:04:33up or was that just because you'd kind of shaken down yeah no the sensor problems caused that so
00:04:39we were a bit worried and narka said look it's a long race we'll come in we'll change ecu and at
00:04:44least we'll you know probably hopefully clear the problem that hasn't been the case but uh we're just
00:04:48going to you know it's obviously a sensor failure so we're just going to keep going but also a slight
00:04:54issue with the fuel just just explain to people electrical core box you actually made a change
00:04:59of that didn't you yeah yeah yeah so how long essentially the brain of the car so it's a three
00:05:04minute job probably um so that that caused the early stop so it's kind of you know better safety
00:05:11than sorry greg you're telling me three minutes but it's a lot worse than that on the timing screens
00:05:14what's what else is we had to come in and the ecu had worked itself loose so we had to then fix it
00:05:19in place and tape it up and all of that kind of stuff and then mark had a spin so that lost us two
00:05:25laps so that's been the story of the race so far but as i say in a positive note you know we're really
00:05:30competitive now corona's in the car he's doing a great job as you'd expect he's been brilliant for
00:05:35us uh he's such a professional and um that's why we have him in the car instead of damien so come on
00:05:41then ambition there's 17 hours and 24 minutes for you to change my mind he's gonna he's gonna work
00:05:48on you today come on ambition for today and for the future i think we still have a chance you know
00:05:53um certainly maybe at the podium hopefully or something like that but that's what we'll fight
00:05:57for and uh we won't stop till it's finished and that's for sure uh so and for the future uh
00:06:02murph prototypes are you know in a pretty exciting place we've got good sponsorship now at hurts and stp
00:06:07and i've taken these people on as true sponsors and bmi regional our airline partner now so we did
00:06:14a deal with snoozebox so we've lots of that kind of commercial stuff going on which is you know which
00:06:19will enable us to stay around for 10 or 15 years and you know just keep coming back year after year
00:06:25plenty of time for you yeah craig if i was speaking to you before the race um you were in jubilant mood
00:06:30confident mood um you thought you could perhaps win the class yeah if you could explain to the viewers at
00:06:35home how disappointing is it that you had an early problem and how do you keep the guys focused on
00:06:43the on the bigger picture which is at 24 hours because i'm sure it's easy with you know with so
00:06:48much preparation and you probably know all about this um for this for this race it's it's biggest
00:06:54you know race in the world it's the biggest challenge in the world i think you've done phenomenally
00:06:58well to get here well time with an irish team and and it's well represented um i i think so how how do
00:07:04you sort of man manage that how do you keep the team spare time we're very competitive bunch you
00:07:10know and one of the reasons i put together people and kind of went out on their own this year was
00:07:13because you know i wanted to get people who have a similar mind to myself who like to enjoy their
00:07:18motorsport but you know you can win with a smile on your face i wonder if motorsport forgot that and
00:07:23uh certainly that's what we want to do and uh yeah it's absolutely heartbreaking i mean you you have
00:07:28an idea of the preparation that goes into we all do um you know i spent the last year of my life
00:07:34essentially since i left here you know organizing this and uh yeah it's heartbreaking but unfortunately
00:07:39i'm as you well know i used to race myself and i'm well used to motor racing breaking your heart so
00:07:44you just get on with it don't you you do your best and you hope yeah you hope you might get a
00:07:48bit of luck and as i say there's 17 and a half hours to go so and and uh you know as we spoke
00:07:54again speaking before the race um i tried to point out how how just a big achievement it is
00:08:01to have an irish team here do you realize that we said we looked up at the the grandstand we saw some
00:08:06irish flags um because this is a race that you have to be invited to take part and for you to do that
00:08:12within i mean you this is your second year this is your second time here um you know we've been
00:08:18we've been flat out on the twitter here there's so many irish people uh following this um does that
00:08:24sort of uh register with you the the achievement you know forgetting about where you where you sit
00:08:29in the race at the moment but just actually competing here at this level does that register
00:08:33with you not really and i suppose a bit like you with your achievements when you drove a car you don't
00:08:37realize you know when you win indy lights races or whatever it is you don't realize how big it is and
00:08:42no i certainly don't but we're walking through the paddock there and we met a few irish people and
00:08:46uh i was amazed uh how intimate they were how proud they were and you know it is it's yeah it's
00:08:52fantastic but i suppose when you're so close to something it's hard to it was nice to see we had
00:08:57a couple of flags in the stand before the start of the race and all that kind of stuff so hopefully
00:09:01when we're back here for the 15th time we'll have more flags than the danes or something that'll be
00:09:06good and so uh what what what are your aspirations for the short-term future next year and a couple of
00:09:11years after that i mean this is a business thing and it's about putting partners together to be able to get
00:09:16good drivers like yourself um you know it's about putting the team in a solid footing and as i say
00:09:21with stp and with hertz and with bmi regional you know we're starting to do that and that's that's a
00:09:25big challenge for me and that's a big buzz for me because it's what i love to do and uh the reason i
00:09:30got involved this was because i thought that as i say i'm not sure how well sponsors have been served
00:09:36in the past by motorsport and we're trying to you know change that maybe and show that you know we can
00:09:40actually you know sell your product to to our the medium of motorsport and uh you know putting these
00:09:47and it seems to you know thankfully it seems to be working so far with some of the people we've managed
00:09:51to get and some other exciting people we're talking to so you know we that's that's very rewarding for
00:09:57me you know um and obviously you know you just can't control it because i'm on the track you know
00:10:01we've i think you know brennan harley curlan chanduk the orican nissan we've you know we've and as i say
00:10:07to a lot of people when the car goes in the track with those drivers and you know that package my
00:10:12job is done so that's motor racing for us the lovely greg murphy we wish him all the very best of
00:10:19luck been a pleasure to have him on board uh right now let's just catch up exactly where we are uh in
00:10:25terms of uh the gt's uh job application has been successful apparently uh damien faulkner is already
00:10:31putting pen to paper as we speak it looks like a very happy man uh there you go uh we are racing
00:10:39out le mans you're live here on euro sport going out to uh potentially 28 million homes around the
00:10:45globe uh you're extraordinarily welcome the lights are flaring which tells you we're heading for
00:10:50night time and the three car has uh well come to a halt haven't seen why or how but we'll get to that
00:10:57as soon as we can but uh he's in exactly the wrong place uh he's going to go all the way around the
00:11:02track as far as i can gather here and we're having a look on board right now no word as yet as mark cole
00:11:08comes and rejoin us oh it looks like a puncture ollie charvis on board and he's got a oh dearie me
00:11:14that's not going to get all the way around surely oh well three wheels on his wagon probably better that
00:11:18he actually spat that right there um because he can kind of counterbalance it and suddenly all hell
00:11:25breaks loose back at audi they've got work to do and indeed so have we he's got 12 kilometers to go
00:11:32goodness me couldn't have happened at a worse place there it is uh the lining and he has gone
00:11:37well that's a lot of weight that's a souvenir gone from it because it with uh centrifugal force
00:11:41yeah with all of that weight we saw um the uh eight star ferrari was it with a lot of damage
00:11:45earlier well let's track him around shall we um he uh as you can see he will make it and in fact
00:11:52he's better without that uh spare rubber i've got to say uh they're all ready to uh to refettle him
00:11:58mark it's a very good point carter it's not all flapping around taking out rear bodywork suspension
00:12:03electrics all those sort of things this is where he went off this of course worst place to do it top
00:12:08of the hill doesn't not done a lot curves and he's now got a whole lap to do you know what mark we've
00:12:13seen an awful lot of punctures so far in this le mans probably a little bit more than normal i'm
00:12:19just wondering whether uh because they're rattling the curves we haven't had any warnings yet about
00:12:23respecting uh track limits or at least i've not seen any no i'm just wondering whether they're just
00:12:27getting uh pinch punctures whatever damon i think that's the man to answer that uh yeah well it's um
00:12:33just when you mentioned track limits is it the the final corner the final chicane when you come on to
00:12:38this start finish straight here i mean all four wheels are completely inside the white line or
00:12:44over the top of the white line up on the curb but it's the same for everybody that seems to be their
00:12:48line and they seem to permit that do you know what i'd love to know what speedy's doing right now on
00:12:51three wheels we'll find out uh well maybe uh we're going to take ourselves a commercial break he's not
00:12:59hanging around that's for sure we'll keep tabs on it uh not too much damage because he shed the problem
00:13:05very very very quickly we'll be back in a few moments time here on europe
00:13:21so
00:13:51Oh, my God.
00:14:21Oh, my God.
00:14:51welcome back the one car gets jacked we wait for the three car it's a busy old time here at
00:14:58Audi as you can see they have however something of a cushion over the toyota's but this is in
00:15:05the garage pushback i thought they'd stopped early we're only seven not quite seven hours
00:15:09into the race and this is their tenth stop for the number one car last year's winning car what
00:15:14is the problem off comes the rear body work as we've explained many times now you put it in the
00:15:19garage because you can throw all your staff at it if you're in the pit lane it's only two well i'll
00:15:24tell you what the big old single unit rear end changes are a thing of the past rules were changed
00:15:29to stop that development well we'll see how they go right now toyota looking on trying not to look
00:15:35smoke so they've covered their mouths that's right they look terribly upset aren't they
00:15:39so loch duval is leading at the moment the number two Audi ollie jarvis is limping around the circuit
00:15:44with a rear um he shredded shredded most of the tire he'll be being taught around the circuit by
00:15:50his engineer howden haynes and just howden we're watching on the uh the same pictures we're seeing
00:15:56when we see ollie here we are on board with him obviously what they can't see is the back of the
00:16:00car but ollie has been told quite categorically get it home and do not wreck a suspension absolutely
00:16:07uh lights still flaring here and go oh you know what they are really clattering the curbs here
00:16:15you know it it doesn't upset me i i just fear for them frankly and i think it does magnify itself in
00:16:23terms of uh of uh these punctures that we're picking up could well be debris as uh the the amount of
00:16:29carbon fiber that's out there you can't sweep everything up and the wind's died so it hasn't
00:16:33blown away right so verts is now back on the same lap as the number one car truly and next time
00:16:38round he will have uh passed into second place yeah and martin just showed me um some news there
00:16:46that the number one audi at the last stops stopped somewhere after the last stop so obviously that
00:16:52they're encountering some problem for some time here comes the three car right in comes ollie jarvis
00:16:56just looking out of our commentary position just to see him sail by and uh it's hardly sailing i tell
00:17:02you uh he is crabbing in at the moment and uh yeah it's a nice clean piece of metal on metal at the
00:17:10back uh i'd love to get it to get a view of that uh alloy when when it comes off we'll have a look at
00:17:18that in just a few moments time and of course the big point at the moment we've only got one audi on
00:17:21track that's in race-worthy condition but verts has actually just gone into second place so these
00:17:26screens are caught up with themselves and it's verts and sarazan second and third now how are they
00:17:31how's how are you going to claw this back well they start it starts now damien yeah well i think this
00:17:37is a simple enough one this is just um probably a full service uh yeah we're seeing a driver change
00:17:42as well um so he'll be uh suited and booted and uh on his way pretty soon let's have a look at this
00:17:49rear right that's what we're going to see how much damage there is uh i don't think they've done
00:17:53any damage to be honest there um he was very lucky that like we were saying that the uh most of the
00:17:59tire delaminated and very cleanly and came off so there there wasn't as much weight there to uh
00:18:05to come off with the centrifugal force i'm still i'm still waiting to rip the bodywork off this wheel
00:18:10for goodness sake around the other side my friend that was that's where the business end is going to
00:18:14be but we've seen with the aldis year after year haven't we that you can drive them on three wheels
00:18:19even that year that jj leto and alan mcnish had the huge going off together over at porsche curves
00:18:24they're able to drive the cars back even with wheels missing there it is
00:18:29well nothing much to report as uh we said when it happened quite lucky that uh they got clear of uh
00:18:37the punctured rubber rebooted and away just listen to that sound or lack of it amazing
00:18:43full marks to ollie jarvis he's he passed his baptism of uh of rubber punches and he's made
00:18:48it he's got the car back it's in one piece and he's out again tell you what besh and the lola are
00:18:53going to start thinking about this uh still some way behind of course but uh we'll see how long those
00:18:58problems take to rectify damien yeah absolutely but as we see uh oliver jarvis there just giving it a
00:19:07little wiggle to make sure everything's tight um because his last lap was uh a little shake in three
00:19:13weeks mark janet's taking the car over in fact we didn't notice sorry on the other side yeah of
00:19:16course yeah no no that's okay but i didn't didn't spot that so mark janet winner for perjot here in 2009
00:19:23so he's got a big uh the malm history too what a good man to take on board the flying spaniard
00:19:28well goodness only knows uh what vehicles these are uh save for the colors of the lights and uh suddenly
00:19:33announcing itself it is uh the two car of uh in the hands of look like duval that we're with at the
00:19:39moment on board with him right now you know what uh you're gonna get some bad luck it's how you ride
00:19:44it i mean within 24 hours something has to happen and it's just how you cope audi probably the best
00:19:52marshalled team on the planet and um yeah if anyone's going to overcome their adversity it's they yeah i
00:19:58think that's what it is it's it's trying to limit the adversity isn't it to stay out of the pits
00:20:02uh and they do a good job of of mastering that and as we mentioned at the start of the show today
00:20:08um this number two car now leads the world championship they came here one point behind
00:20:13uh the number one car but they got two points for pole and they are now leading by one point
00:20:18and of course carlton they won the last race at silverstone exactly uh the double points here uh
00:20:24spins out so that they are now indeed the leaders and we've got a driver change here in the seven car as
00:20:29well well experts out who's getting in did you spot it damien i didn't but i was just thinking that um
00:20:38that at the last round of pit stops oh uh nakajima i think ah yeah it is yeah um yeah he's trying to
00:20:46pit stops um nick lapierre started that's right so jeremy had tweeted that they that he watched one of
00:20:50the toyota pit stops and it took off on hybrid power so there was absolutely no sound at all so it's like a
00:20:56toyota prius it is it is quite weird watching them come in as well in silence uh i think that's the
00:21:02biggest thing is always expecting a roar and just a whoosh oh there's an awful lot of tools being used
00:21:07at the back there are and uh we've got some uh uh some what look like uh long nose pincers there as
00:21:14well that's uh cable cutting going on not nice very well just being uh holding fluids
00:21:20and uh aldi number two is leading number three just came in the pits to replace the tire and number
00:21:26one is in the garage like they have something there is repair to do there you go and nothing like
00:21:32encouragement where by the uh by reporting the problems of others stephan don't fall off the road
00:21:38laughing yeah exactly just keep it focused and uh try your best to get around the traffic and stefan sarrazan
00:21:44twice uh finishing second here at le mans with peugeot in 2007 and 2009 he's in the sister car
00:21:51which martin jenet took to victory and uh stephan would just love to win this race he's not far from
00:21:57here barjack 38 years old and it's all going wrong for audi at moment that car still there now what are
00:22:03they doing here getting they're getting uh gonna get underneath it now they're raising it up onto uh stands
00:22:08damien and uh this isn't good is it no this is hands into awkward places isn't it damien yeah i think
00:22:14so i mean i'm just looking at the same uh the same pictures here but they're putting it on the tall
00:22:20stands um so goodness knows what that do you know what we've had uh we've had a lot of problems with
00:22:25pneumatics here um uh because of a lot of pickups we've had punctured hoses and as a result uh some of
00:22:31the air hoses for the jacks aren't actually working i'm just wondering what that whether that's the issue
00:22:36right now they're not alone if that's the case uh i don't know um i i doubt it i'd say it's
00:22:44something else i'm not sure if they have a do they have to fix that or is there a do they have
00:22:48a plan b if that happens well it just uh makes every single stop that they have very very tardy and if
00:22:53your jacks aren't working properly then you know it's it makes all all of your stops extraordinarily slow
00:22:59uh we're we are guessing at the moment we wait for some news uh from down in the pits and indeed
00:23:05the garage where audi have uh rolled in uh nakajima is on his out lap right now having uh taken over
00:23:12from bert sarrazan running in second place with look deval and the two car out front and just remember
00:23:18nakajima a bit of a cloud over him from last year after one of the restarts he punted the um the doctor
00:23:25wing off the circuit yes huge apologies were issued almost immediately hang on not immediately took until
00:23:32the following morning there was a meeting there was a meeting between toyota and delta in the
00:23:37toyota garage and there was lots of bowing much bowing oh dear yes lots of knees were kissed
00:23:44their own they're so low with the bows yes very contrite were they uh well they're back and uh intent
00:23:51on victory themselves uh you wouldn't have thought that if you'd seen uh uh qualifying but then the
00:23:56warm-up announced toyota and of course if you uh manage to ride your ill fortune well i think we've
00:24:03got the our answer don't we goodness uh good that's what we're talking about not respecting track limits
00:24:09and uh that's the second second greaves motorsport car of course that's the one jan madenborough lucas
00:24:14ordinez and michael krum on board it's not what you want to be doing where is that car by the way that
00:24:20that was jan on board and that he is running 15th overall and seventh in p2 so it's not a playstation
00:24:28game today jan just keep that car off the kerbs there we are uh out front duval sarazan nakajima yes
00:24:36you've heard that right audi toyota toyota a two-car challenge for toyota they have had electrical issues
00:24:43they've had uh other worries as well but right now they're in a happy place uh even happier i suspect
00:24:49if uh like duval was having any kind of issues we wouldn't wish that upon them at all but you know
00:24:54what we've got we have a race and this deep into it well isn't that a great thing to be able to report
00:25:0117 hours and five minutes remain yeah we've got a swap around there haven't we at the top um bruno
00:25:06senna now in the aston martin ahead of richard leeds peter dumbrax dropped back to third i
00:25:11didn't see when that happened maybe they took a bit of extra servicing in the number 97 car which
00:25:16dumbrax was leading the class i think it was a stop down to be honest i think he's come in because
00:25:20they're all three they're all on uh six stops that's what i'm looking at but bruno senna rookie
00:25:24here at le mans and what a great outing he's having leading gt pro we just got some information to
00:25:30speculate that it was a crankshaft sensor failure on the number one audi so whether that is um
00:25:37true or not which it remains to be seen which is suggests why they're needing to get right
00:25:41underneath the car and get it up on the stands there's the alternator that the guy has in his
00:25:45hand so having to take bits out to get to it yeah and uh audi central looking down from their
00:25:54hospitality box above again look at that jan martin bruh the uh playstation academy guy it's only his first
00:26:00ever le mans and oh but that hurt there's very little isn't there between you and the ground
00:26:05in these cars ouch he'll be embarrassed by that yeah and that was did you see the lip on the front of
00:26:10that curb that was really really uh that was sort of a violent impact there i'm still waiting for a
00:26:16please respect track limits uh uh notice to come up but uh there you go on board with the 92 porsche
00:26:23about yes this is uh chasing this is leaks uh versus senna yeah and of course it's a big weekend for
00:26:31olaf manti and his team they made the official porsche gt people this year and uh they've had a very
00:26:37steep learning curve there but they have a lot of porsche people embedded here in the team and liz halliday
00:26:43now coming back to join us jeremy shaw will be coming to replace me in a few minutes but uh
00:26:48uh there's hot from the pit lane and uh i don't know how how hot from the pit lane liz is what's it
00:26:53like out there liz how hot is it liz not very i'm freezing actually i'm thinking of putting another
00:26:59layer on it's actually quite cold here in le mans very very windy might i add it's blowing a howler
00:27:05actually thank you for the continuing high-class interview has been really really informative and
00:27:09we've had mike gascoigne in here while we've been out talking about catering we've had matt michelin
00:27:13and that has been really really interesting michelin sorry i missed all of that yeah but uh they'll
00:27:18be back they'll be back so uh yeah it's all just gone to the minute the minute i walked off pit lane
00:27:27everybody went in the garage now the number 12 oh no this is not what we wanted to have at all
00:27:34is yanni they have been going uh terrifically well but they are also paying a visit to the garage
00:27:39uh we're going to start racking up here with uh uh garage information hopefully fairly sharpish
00:27:45uh i've got to tell you as well it's uh there's a lot of alto singing uh brass monkeys out there it is
00:27:51very cold uh the temperatures incidentally does have an impact on the performance of the vehicles
00:27:58in a good way in fact um i when i spoke to mark cheney which most of you probably heard he was saying
00:28:03that the cars are going the fastest they've been so far a lot of that will be down to how much cooler it
00:28:08is at the moment and certainly now that the sun's going down we haven't had a lot of sun but they're
00:28:13hoping to even uh do five stints on these tires which is really unheard of for most of the time so
00:28:19i think that's down to the cool temperatures as well also going back to what you said about
00:28:23the ad martinburgh being given uh respecting track limit sign i don't think he would get that there
00:28:29because generally you would get one of those if you repeatedly went over the track limits and were
00:28:34gaining an advantage but in his case he just looked to me like he just kind of made a bad decision and
00:28:40had a bit of an off so i wouldn't expect them to be quite too hard on him then at this stage unless
00:28:44he leaps it three more times yeah well uh it's now 10 o'clock in the evening and um all we've heard for
00:28:49the last five days is that carlton liz we're going to go to the earth wind and fire concert tonight
00:28:53so that's a lot of hot air because they're sitting here in the cabin yeah well work has held us into the
00:28:59cabin but we're going to be uh grooving up and down here in a minute we had greg murphy on a few
00:29:03minutes ago he's gone off to to hear the commitments playing on the other side of the track so
00:29:09i think we should just leave mark to it shall we just go across and just do it by himself
00:29:16i'm just going to start uh i was thinking almost of tucking my wrist into my uh my significantly large
00:29:21belt and i'm doing a bit of irish dancing but uh i resisted
00:29:28now just to remind you uh we will be switching to eurosport two in just a few moments time
00:29:33and uh for the rest of you you will enjoy le mans 24 minutes a round of what's happened so far i'm
00:29:39sure we'll be seeing uh the dishy doc uh dempsey and the three d's uh as well for you within that
00:29:44program uh but right now we're going to take ourselves a brief break and we'll be back on uh
00:29:50your sport too so you can always stay with the action you just have to have your remote control
00:29:54with you and when you come back i will have morphed into jeremy shaw oh do do do do do
00:30:12uh
00:30:16uh
00:30:18uh
00:30:20uh
00:30:24uh

00:39:50Fuel alarm! Fuel alarm! Boxing alarm!
00:39:52Copy, like. You're in this time. Boxing time.
00:43:54Deal with the good people.
00:45:08I'll be right back.
00:45:10of 10 laps and that's about a complete full fuel system on these cars we just saw the number two
00:45:16car on pit lane Tom Christensen take it over from Lloyd Duval who did a great job in that last stint
00:45:22he also set the fastest lap of the race on lap 86 so 22 laps ago it was Lloyd Duval who set that
00:45:31time and it was a three minutes 23.269 which is almost a second faster than the fastest lap
00:45:38at Lloyd Duval set last year so tremendous pace they are running well speaking with the Audi guys
00:45:44they were saying that the conditions are very good now they're probably the best track conditions
00:45:48we've had the entire weekend after all of the mixed conditions they've been dealing with they've said
00:45:53that the tires are feeling very good now it's nice and cool outside earlier in the week when it was
00:45:57raining it was quite hot and humid but now it's it's cool it's dry these are optimal conditions
00:46:03the ones that we probably wanted during qualifying journey yeah absolutely right I think it would
00:46:08have been a lot more interested in many many ways in qualifying if you'd had these sort of
00:46:12conditions and as a result of those pit stops the number eight car of Stefan Sarrazar the Toyota
00:46:17leading Toyota was briefly back on the lead lap but that now has come onto pit lane for his own
00:46:23scheduled service so that will mean that he will resume again at one lap down and before this round of
00:46:30pit stops the number eight and the number seven Toyota is running now in second and third positions
00:46:35as a result of the fact that the number three car over Oliver Jarvis had a puncture and an extended
00:46:41a slow lap around that is now a farther lap behind and the number one car is just about getting ready
00:46:50to rejoin we think certainly a very different picture than what we had even an hour ago though
00:46:55Jeremy I mean we were looking at Audi wiping the board one two three feeling very confident having had
00:47:01no problems whatsoever throughout this race so far to suddenly complete disaster a long long pit stop
00:47:07one of the longest Audi has had that they can remember mixed with a very very long slog around
00:47:13the lap for Oliver Jarvis with that worst timing of a puncture in the Dunlop chicane so it's all
00:47:18unraveling a little bit here as we come into the night yeah it was extraordinary around about
00:47:229.35 there was just a raft of problems uh those two you talked about with the two Audis within
00:47:27seconds of each other absolutely because I was a couple of pits down just snooping around in the pit
00:47:32area and I saw on the uh on the uh the monitors that the number three car had had a problem I then saw
00:47:39an Audi come into the pit lane I presumed it was a number three it wasn't it was a number one for that
00:47:44extended stop there was also a problem for number car number 74 the Corvette that also made an
00:47:50unscheduled pit stock they had a problem with the uh with the uh with the engine and they stopped
00:47:57and they they downloaded some data into the engine to try and reset the computer on board and as
00:48:02described to me by Gary Pratt that they were basically trying to fool the electronics on the
00:48:08car that no there's no problem here boys uh you guys you eight cylinders and bouncing down there's no
00:48:13problems here you get back to work and carry on again the car was sent out and seems now to be
00:48:18running quite well this is one of the problems that we find with these high-tech race cars they
00:48:22all run off an ECU system an engine management system and sometimes you get glitches it is
00:48:27electronics I've had it happen to me as well and sometimes what will happen is the engine
00:48:31goes into sort of a limp mode of bring the car home safe mode when it doesn't need to be doing that
00:48:36it happens more often than you'd think I find it's very annoying when it happens there's nothing you
00:48:40can do and you're stuck trying to limp the car back to the pit sometimes just by shutting the
00:48:45engine off and restarting it that can reset it but in this case like you said they did a good job to
00:48:50get that going again for Corvette there was also a problem for number 46 car the Terrier by TDS car
00:48:55uh driven I think by Ludwig Bade he had a puncture uh and he had to stop maybe a third of the way
00:49:02into a stint well halfway into a stint actually I believe it was so that set them back a little bit
00:49:06they were running I think as high as third place in the class so in P2 now it's number 35
00:49:12oak racing uh Morgan uh Nissan that leads Bertrand Baguette at the wheel of that car number 35 John
00:49:19Martin is just making a pit stop he has been leading that class for Delta ADR the number 26
00:49:26Orica Nissan uh he's they've got themselves back on schedule with everybody else they lost some time
00:49:32early on with a puncture but during that last full course caution a little while ago they were to get
00:49:38back onto sequence they close up to within about 15 or 16 seconds of the leader in P2 the full course
00:49:45caution allowed them to to make up that deficit John Martin then took the lead and pulled away
00:49:50and is now making uh what one hopes is a scheduled pit stop for car number 26 third place in P2
00:49:56is uh Simon Dolan now at the wheel of the Jota Sport car number 38 the Zytec Nissan on board uh with
00:50:03uh Jan Martin I believe who clouded the curb and got airborne not very long ago we're just heading
00:50:09into nighttime right now and uh yes as you can see the uh sun has well finally disappeared although we
00:50:16didn't see much of it uh all day uh Martin running fifth in uh his class at the moment uh we're going
00:50:23to get a replay of that or is it another incident goodness me well still not overly settled I've got
00:50:28to say uh Nakajima it is yeah just uh overshooting the breaker there into the Dunlop curbs and curves
00:50:35and and running a little bit wide there no harm no foul it would appear for Kazuki Nakajima Liz at this
00:50:41time of night when it's uh heavy rain reported oh my goodness and uh you can see the windscreen
00:50:47wipes are working already I was just about to say just as the light disappears you've got to reboot
00:50:51your brain anyway yeah we were listening to a team radio there telling the team that there was heavy
00:51:05rain reported in one of the corners and it's yeah Dunlop curbs which I think is exactly why we just saw
00:51:11Nakajima flying over the top and there it is earth wind and fire oh actually I don't think it's them
00:51:18maybe they're coming a bit later if that was earth wind and fire there'd be a full brass section
00:51:22yeah they're meant to be on its head wonderland it's running a bit late this is my music happening
00:51:28right here in front of us I'm quite happy thank you about it well Liz and I were uh slightly regretful
00:51:34that we're not actually over there one of my favorite bands uh there we go not now anyhow Liz I was just
00:51:38saying um at night you've got to kind of reboot your brain as a driver it's a difficult time to
00:51:43actually come in and start your stint almost immediately straight out of the bright lights
00:51:47if you like as we look at uh Dallas Frasca uh there we are um you come out of the bright lights of your
00:51:53own uh garage and uh head out there into the darkness you better be ready well this is actually
00:51:59one of my favorite stints at Le Mans normally not with the heavy rain in random corners and slick tires
00:52:03of course but uh the the early night stint is one of my absolute favorites because once you get
00:52:08dialed into the night at Le Mans it is fantastic you can sort of see lots of different things you
00:52:13sense the ferris wheel and everything going on and the car is just really sweet and fast usually
00:52:18do you get less distracted almost like tunneling a little bit yeah and you do just sort of settle in
00:52:24you've cut you've already done a stint or two in the car so you're in a bit of a groove you know
00:52:27everything's a bit automatic your shift points where you're going in the car and you do like I say
00:52:32you just settle in the night driving and you're still fresh it's what I've always found was really
00:52:37difficult was like the 4am stint when you've not really had much sleep you're getting back into
00:52:41the car when it's cold and you're your brain is not quite as fresh with the racing as it was earlier
00:52:47and that's a stint that I find really tricky that and into the morning here's a perfect example of what
00:52:51we're looking at a kind of tunnel straight down the road uh your reactions have to be uh all the
00:52:56sharper but then again your brain kind of sharpens up as well it's a bit like driving on the motorway at
00:53:01night unlit uh save for your headlights there's no distractions you're not looking over at uh
00:53:06cattle willowing in the field if that's what cattle do uh but uh you get the drift it is high speed but
00:53:12focused meanwhile earth wind and fire about to come on that is a beautiful shot oh look at that
00:53:19like I've said absolutely beautiful one thing that is a little bit tricky for the night driving which
00:53:25a lot of the drivers have been commenting on and I've noticed myself is there are portions of the
00:53:29circuit where there are some lights near the gantries but as you drive past them you see the
00:53:35lights in your mirror and you believe it's an lmp car because it is a white light and so you're
00:53:39suddenly I used to do lap after lap and I'd shout at myself thinking come on it was the same thing
00:53:44last time but you're so dialed into focusing on the lights coming up behind you that it can be a
00:53:49little bit distracting you find yourself sort of panicking that you've missed something in your
00:53:52mirrors and I think that's part of the night driving is you're very tuned into which lights are
00:53:57approaching is it an Audi or Toyota or something coming very fast and you can see some of the
00:54:01floodlights there down uh through the through the S's which of course never used to be there that was
00:54:05always particularly dark there's the Audi running the Audi's running wide there no I think that's just
00:54:10the wet again isn't it if we've got some rain around these are going to be really treacherous
00:54:14conditions right now especially in a prototype car there wasn't a great status car ahead of him
00:54:18I think it might be yeah well there we are we are going to we're going to take our leave in just
00:54:26a couple of minutes time so we're kind of uh just jumping about uh so if you are internationally
00:54:31listening to us in the the Asia Pacific or wherever uh we're about to switch back to
00:54:35Eurosport International so I hope you've got that remote in your hand otherwise you're going to have
00:54:38to get up and go and uh change it manually in just a few moments time uh boogie uh we certainly are
00:54:44up here we are heading into the last 16 hours 35 minutes yes you heard that right is that all
00:54:52oh unbelievable unbelievable and and we're in the cozy position of being in a commentary booth
00:54:56commentary booth for goodness sake yeah well speak for yourself in about half an hour I've got to go
00:55:01freeze again in pit lane this action is it is that's been doing such great work up and down sterling I
00:55:08think you might say uh this has been a difficult one to net I've got to say Jeremy
00:55:13it was indeed the status car there that the race leader was trying to get around he looked like
00:55:22he was alongside him but the status car wasn't going to give up that position number 30 car who's
00:55:27at the wheel of it Johnny Mollum was at the wheel of that thank you bless him he obviously doesn't
00:55:31want to be driving an Audi in the near future clearly so Johnny Mollum was with us last year of
00:55:37course Liz well I just had a chat with Johnny Mollum in pit lane actually and was just asking how he
00:55:41was getting on he's doing well he is he's uh he said it was a little bit tricky in the stint before
00:55:45he said near the end of his stint that the rear end of the car was just getting away from him a
00:55:50little bit around the high speed corners which is really not friendly at Le Mans I asked him if
00:55:54maybe it was a tyre pressure issue and he felt it was more of a setup problem because he thought the
00:55:59tires were good yeah get your balaclavas on before you push the car out onto the garage we saw that
00:56:08car come out of the garage what about five minutes ago clearly the problem had not been fully rectified
00:56:14so the car has been pushed back again into that garage and they're still working on it there in
00:56:19the Audi Sport pit well we'll take our leaf and we will cross back over to a Eurosport International
00:56:25who've been busy with Le Mans 24 minutes back in Le Mans
00:56:28join us as the number one Audi comes off its jacks and starts to play well let's see what's going to
00:56:53happen here I'm hoping that they've managed to rectify the problem but they have been in pit
00:56:57lane for a very long time indeed 24th they are on the timing board I don't remember the last time I
00:57:04saw Audi that far back even when they've had an accident or a problem 51 minutes I reckon that pit
00:57:10stop for the number one car um it came in at I reckon about 9 35 it's now 10 26 or 10 27 uh p.m here
00:57:20uh so uh there is Lina giving the instructions boy she's she's a star with this team she does
00:57:26just a fantastic job she keeps everybody so calm and cool and collected as of course is she amazing
00:57:33very very professional isn't she you never see her in a flap and I know a lot of people that would be
00:57:37but Lina just seems to keep it all in control very good to you know compliment the the team on what
00:57:43they're doing she keeps everybody sort of switched on and on the same on the same team really I know they
00:57:47are but there's being on a team and there's being on a team and I think she does a brilliant job with
00:57:52that yeah absolutely no nonsense credits where it's due and uh yes uh phenomenal marshalling what is a
00:57:58well marshalled team let's not forget uh almost hard to kind of step up to that level but she's done
00:58:03an amazing job for the last couple of years of course uh the three car is in for a cleanup job there
00:58:08are insect life there is insect life around uh found a couple of mozzies in my car earlier on don't
00:58:13know how they broke in but anyway obviously got keys uh christensen then in the two car is uh out
00:58:19there sarazan nakajima uh yeah you heard that right and mark genet who we're looking at right now
00:58:24in the pits coming out of p4 i think that's a scheduled stop for that car uh just uh fuel only for the
00:58:33number three audi the um yeah the audis were as we've talked about there they were very much in
00:58:39control uh after the first caution period uh but uh it all went wrong about an hour ago but for this
00:58:46car too that i'm scheduled to stop for a puncture since then mark genet trying to chip away at that
00:58:50deficit to the toyotas in front of him the gap before the pit stop was around about
00:58:56a bit less than a minute from the second of the toyotas to the car number three just getting an
00:59:03idea of how great these lights are in the audi very very bright i know last year they had some
00:59:08different lights on the car for the first time some people were complaining about it but myself and
00:59:13other drivers were thinking well gosh that'd be great i mean i know certainly when i was racing i
00:59:18would have loved to have had audi have different lights because there's lmp cars coming and there's
00:59:23Audi and toyota and frankly if you're being overtaken you would like to know if it's the
00:59:27fastest cars on the circuit part of the complaint liz was that um they were so bright and like a ball
00:59:33you actually weren't sure the position of that approaching vehicle behind you because it was just
00:59:38uh like the uh the the world lit up behind you and you couldn't you didn't know which part is all
00:59:43you can do is just keep your line because that's your job as being the overtaking car and
00:59:46keep your line and be prepared to be past at extreme speed yeah that's exactly right it was the
00:59:52sort of the distance perception if you're like looking in your mirrors that was uh as you're
00:59:56absolutely right so uh tricky little kind of a 25 spun and
