00:00:00of Alan Simonson very early on in this race. The family consulted and asked Aston Martin to race on
00:00:06and indeed they have and Makiaveki and Peter Dunbrecht doing a great job in GT Pro. They're
00:00:14one and three at the moment so two on the podium. Starting next lap, duration five or six laps,
00:00:21level 0.2 all areas, light spots, it's only very light spots.
00:00:27There we are, talking about light level and also talking about rain, moisture on the track.
00:00:36Yeah, that was, I thought that was a coded message there, so that was a very intricate
00:00:41message and detailed message about rain. Light level too, I like that. He didn't even mention
00:00:46the word rain, did he? Is that a different type of rain? I don't know, so many different words
00:00:52for rain in Ireland and out of that big selection, just one chosen by Damien Falker to bring to
00:00:58the table. We can only hope for an improvement next year.
00:01:03Alan Mcnish, it is. Yes, apparently 30 different kinds of words to describe, different words
00:01:08describe, right? I thought it was 20. Got up. Nakajima is on his marks right now.
00:01:21Brief water bottle change, no great hurry because they can't do anything until the fuel man has
00:01:27finished his job. Tire changes going on as well. This will be a regular service, I should say,
00:01:37a very swift one as well. Fuel and tires, and away they go.
00:01:40Yeah, he's staying on board there as well, having just taken over from Alexander Vert at the last stop.
00:01:46Oh, not again. Eight star. Keep it in, keep it in, keep it in. Skip over if you possibly can
00:01:54and try not to drag too much back out with you. Yeah, they've been in, I've got to say,
00:02:01the gravel a number of times in the bright orange machine, and it's Mr. Bright who's on board at
00:02:08the moment. The eight cars come in, so Sarazan also makes his stop, and we'll count the lap as well.
00:02:14Two, six, nine for the eighth car, and we'll work out their stints late on in this one. That looked
00:02:21like a very secondhand camera. You can see that the cleanup operation going on. They do have
00:02:28a number of tearaways, but prefer to just keep them in case there's any kind of issue later on.
00:02:35If you have real grease, if there's any kind of fluid like oil that's thrown up by a car in front
00:02:42of you, you want to tear off to make it a clean, clean, if that makes sense. And so you want to keep
00:02:47as many of those as you can. They often ask the drivers, do you want a tearaway taking off? They
00:02:51say, no, just clean it. They want some insurance. Well, you know something, there's just nothing
00:02:56like driving out of the pits with a new screen. It's just, it's like you're just left the showroom
00:03:01with a brand new car. You've got such good vision, and it's just fantastic. But yeah, most of the time
00:03:06it gets wiped, and it'll get wiped at every stop as a precautionary. But I think they're limited to
00:03:15four or five, did we agree? Five? Five, I think it is. Yeah, it's headlamp clusters as well. Although
00:03:20I'm not sure Audi actually run those on their light box, but there you go. I'm not sure that
00:03:25they need to with such powerful lights. Yeah, you could probably put it through black lead,
00:03:30to be honest, and they'd still manage to be seen. So bright are those lights. They need
00:03:35to be. Just look at the speeds they carry through the curves. Oh, it's flat here. Yeah, it's
00:03:40incredible. It's just, it's astonishing, and it's fantastic when we get the onboard footage
00:03:44through there. Even when we just get these shots, it's brilliant. It's coming up to lap one
00:03:49of the Porsches and a Corvette. Approach speed is absolutely amazing. The marshals who are in
00:03:56charge of blue flags. We mentioned this earlier on there, the busiest of all, especially in
00:04:00Le Mans racing, especially early laps. I don't think you stop waving them to say, to inform
00:04:04slower cars. There's a quicker man coming through. He hit the flash button, and he's gone in a
00:04:10flash. This is Marcel Fassler, the man who's set the fastest lap in this year's Le Mans, 3.22,
00:04:167.46. It's only two seconds outside of that, incidentally, as he's running at the moment,
00:04:213.24.5. Yeah. And so deep into the run, that is amazing. That's with a bit of traffic
00:04:27also having to dive down inside the Corvette there towards the end, so he's lost a little
00:04:32bit of time. Repairs go on with the 13 car. It's been in here for some time. It looks like
00:04:38they're going to get it back out, which is good. The 13 car, well, it'll be bidding to
00:04:43move past some P2 cars by the time they get there. And this is painful stuff, isn't it?
00:04:47Every turn of the spanner is time lost, unfortunately, in a situation such as this.
00:04:54Yeah, and there's just nothing they can do to hurry. They just have to work meticulously,
00:04:58but they're working pretty rapidly, I think, so they're obviously keen to get it back out
00:05:05again. But yeah, it looks like an awful lot of work, doesn't it?
00:05:08It certainly does. We are in Pit Lane, as you can see. And unfortunately, this is a static
00:05:17vehicle, the 13 car with Bellicci on board. Got it wrong at one of the restarts after
00:05:23the many safety car periods that we've had during this race. It has become a bit of a
00:05:28character of it, I'm afraid. Yes, and I'm not sure whether it was actually contact with
00:05:34the Porsche or whether it was avoiding action. But on the restart, straight into the barriers,
00:05:39barrier repair required as well, and didn't beat those repairs out. The engineers taking an
00:05:45awful lot of time, it's a bit more technical than welding some barriers back together,
00:05:49unfortunately. Yeah, and under a prototype as well, you've got, you know, it's just basically
00:05:53carbon fiber all over. So, you know, they don't bend, they just break. And so it's pretty
00:05:59brittle stuff. Wow. So it's what we're saying. It's just, it's just mind boggling, isn't it?
00:06:06It actually looks like this is speeded up, like one of those old time movies. It is not.
00:06:11This is real time. Absolutely remarkable. They are otherworldly, these guys. Next to one right
00:06:19now, actually, Damien Faulkner. Glad to have you on board. Have you enjoyed yourself, incidentally?
00:06:23I have. I have. It's been fantastic. I'm not going as fast as those guys at the moment, but
00:06:31you'll be getting an invitation to come home. Will I get one to come back? Let's call it that,
00:06:38yes. Very much indeed. Made himself at home. I know a lot of you have loved hearing that gorgeous
00:06:44Irish brogue just echoing over the airways. I'm not so sure that I've enjoyed my time. You'd be
00:06:49surprised. Thank you for making me feel welcome. I think the Valentine's list of many young ladies
00:06:54has just expanded. There we go. Past the art car goes the number three car. That's Di Grazzi. Now,
00:07:01he is trying to get back at Nakajima. He's on the same lap at the moment. That's his target. And so,
00:07:08Audi would love to have two on the podium, especially because of all the travails that they've had.
00:07:15And this is his mission. So, Di Grazzi, go get him, is the word. He's got a long way to go.
00:07:23On board with the eight car of Sarazam, yet again. Oh, listen to that.
00:07:30Oh, I thought we're going to stay on a little bit longer there. It's not properly synchronized,
00:07:38I think, with the sound, because even when they make pit stops, it looks like they're not bolting
00:07:43the knocks on, because the noise, we've already heard the sound by the time the pictures tell us
00:07:52the story. That's Nakajima. Behind him is the eight car that's running in second place,
00:07:55but he is hunting and looking for the seven car to get himself on to the podium. 269 laps completed
00:08:04by Nakajima in the seven car. 57 seconds is the deficit for Di Grazzi, so he's got to make up a
00:08:09minute. He's got five hours, 21 minutes to do it. I wouldn't put it past him, but 57 seconds at two
00:08:15seconds a lap. I think he might well just run out of time if there's an issue, but then again,
00:08:19we've got stock strategies as well to factor into the whole affair. It could happen. We'll see.
00:08:25Sarah's out in that eight car runners-up spot. Would that be deemed as a success as we came into this
00:08:34race? A lot of people were talking down Toyota. They've done very well. They've done very well,
00:08:39but they're not here to finish second, are they? No one's coming here to finish second. Audi will
00:08:45probably be disappointed that they didn't. If indeed it finishes like this, they'll still be disappointed
00:08:51they didn't, or they only had one car on the podium. But no, Toyota, you know, like Audi,
00:08:57like every competitor, they race to win. And it's, you know, it's a monumental effort to come here to
00:09:04produce cars like this and a team like this that operates for 24 hours. They do several simulations
00:09:09of 24 hours. Um, you know, they spend many millions of pounds and, uh, you know, it's just,
00:09:16you know, a monumental effort, as I say. And, you know, it's, it's, uh, you know, second place is
00:09:22first to the losers. There we are. Unfortunately, but I've got to say the way that they were talking
00:09:28about their chances. Uh, there were some very long faces. I think they thought it might be an Audi
00:09:32one, two, three lockout. It's been anything but, and we have to be grateful for that. Uh, sailing past,
00:09:38uh, one of, uh, the yellow liveried Ferraris. I think you're absolutely right. Uh, but, uh, yeah,
00:09:46they are all still very much on a mission. You look at the speed that they're carrying into these corners.
00:09:50Uh, then this is a 24 hour sprint race, essentially. Yeah, it's crazy. And we just saw him just getting, uh,
00:09:57the number eight there, uh, Stefan Sarazan getting held up in sector three through the Porsche curves.
00:10:02It's the worst place, um, for traffic. He will not want traffic in that, in that place at all.
00:10:09And then we've just got what he's, uh, you know, minus 2.395 seconds.
00:10:15Yeah. Remarkable. Uh, some great performers out there. SJ Spout says, um, I, for me,
00:10:20it's a real shame that, uh, Toyota are not in the classic red and white. I know where you're coming from.
00:10:27And down comes the rain. Look at that. Uh, the camera just doing a pull focus to, uh, uh,
00:10:33just highlight the fact that we have, uh, drizzle in certain parts of the circuit.
00:10:39Well, what were they saying? Uh, dry, flat light, gradient two. Uh, that situation is changing.
00:10:45Now, uh, there's been some great tire calls, incidentally. Uh, we had a safety car deployment
00:10:50halted. Uh, we have a whole rack of cars coming in, uh, presumed for intermediates.
00:10:56Marcel Fasler is one of those. Is this his regulation stop for the one car?
00:10:59Uh, I wouldn't be surprised that there, if it is wet or getting wet, I wouldn't be surprised that
00:11:05they'll use this, um, as a, as a, as a marker and as a reference as a guinea pig, if you like,
00:11:12for the, uh, for the number two loading of McNish. So maybe they'll go for it to me and see how it's
00:11:17running and, uh, offer McNish the option. Uh, it's, uh, good to have some kind of reader insurance.
00:11:23And that's what effectively we've got right now. Uh, will they make that change? Let's, uh,
00:11:28check on, uh, the wheels as they go on. Uh, Damien Faulkner from the American Le Mans series. We will
00:11:35see how this, uh, see how your tire recognition goes in just a moment if they go through. Uh,
00:11:41the fuel is going in. It doesn't look like they're going to change tires at all. No, it doesn't. Uh,
00:11:46so it's a refuel right now. Is this to get out of sequence? Do they want him closer to McNish?
00:11:52Do they need him to be on track, uh, close to the man who is the most important at the moment,
00:11:57Alan McNish on board the number two Audi? We will see. Is there some kind of teamwork going on here
00:12:04that's offering up some protection? We'll find out, I guess. Look at the 99 car. This is, uh,
00:12:10Machiavecchi. He is our leader. A lot of people talking, uh, Freddie Machiavecchi up big time,
00:12:16and he's doing a fantastic job. They lead the GT pro class and what a lovely looking vehicle it is to
00:12:22have out and in front. It's Aston's one and three. Peter Dunbrook has done a fantastic
00:12:27job in the 97 car to get that right back into contention as well. Mark Leib and the Porsche
00:12:32second in that class, uh, just to get you up to speed as far as, uh, P2 is concerned,
00:12:36the prototype second division. It is Morgan's one and two. Gonzalez and Brundle racing them now.
00:12:42Uh, Rusinov is still being challenged by Ordinez. He's only 13.9 seconds behind him,
00:12:47incidentally, in that battle. They are going to be coming together fairly shortly. Let's hope it keeps it
00:12:52clean and we'll have that battle after taking a very brief break. Let's hope. Looking rueful at the 47.
00:13:11uh,
00:13:18uh,
00:13:24uh,
00:13:30uh,
00:13:36uh,
00:14:10Welcome back. It is busy. We're on board with Mark Leib, the 92 car running second in class.
00:14:16Machiavec is the man he's chasing down and he's 15 seconds adrift of him on lap 246 for them.
00:14:25There you see a Marshall holding out the slippery flag, the red and yellow flag.
00:14:30And you can see the car has been really tentative through the Porsche curves.
00:14:33Obviously, they're all out on slicks and we've just had a big shower hit us here.
00:14:37You can see it outside our commentary box. Very clear. There's a lot of wind as well.
00:14:41People have got umbrellas up. So there's a nice shower coming our way.
00:14:46As you come up to the Dunlop Bridge, you do get kicked into the air.
00:14:50And if there is a strong wind blowing straight down the start or finish straight,
00:14:55it can just catch you out and just help to tip you out of shape ever so slightly.
00:15:00The surface as well, after all the exhaust and rubber that's been laid down on this track here,
00:15:08a little light dusting of rain makes it for a very, very skittery surface.
00:15:14And you do have to take care, hence that flag.
00:15:16Yeah, this creates a lot of pressure for the drivers now because, you know, the track takes up quite a large space.
00:15:26And so it could be dry in one part of the circuit, could be dry in two parts of the circuit and it could be wet elsewhere.
00:15:32As Martin Leib, he is in second place. He's in an Aston sandwich at the moment.
00:15:36In front of him is Maki Vecchi and behind him is Peter Dunbrek.
00:15:43Not immediately within vision, I've got to tell you, but Peter Dunbrek is 20 seconds adrift of him.
00:15:48And he knows that. And so he has to keep the pace up.
00:15:51He's racing his own race as the two-car of McNish sails by him on board with the GT Pro second place runner at the moment, Martin Leib.
00:16:00As you see, disappearing into the distance goes Alan McNish on board, the leading prototype Audi number two car.
00:16:10Yeah, you can just see how long the braking distances are there with just being very safe on the brakes,
00:16:18very cautious with a light foot.
00:16:21And he's using a lot of road in the exit there as well to make sure that he gets that car straight.
00:16:28Yeah, using the box to slow him down from some distance as well.
00:16:32There is the two-car Alan McNish and we're on board with him right now.
00:16:39Listen to the squeal of the energy retrieval system under braking. Let's have a listen.
00:16:47Couldn't quite hear it, to be fair, but there you go.
00:16:50After all that.
00:16:51After all that, well, he just got a bit loose there, as they say in America.
00:16:56A little bit of oversteer on entry there.
00:16:59Yes, the power from the retrieval system not deliverable until the Audis reach 120 kilometers per hour.
00:17:08And then it kicks in.
00:17:09It is a different retrieval system to the flywheel used by Audis.
00:17:15They're used by the Toyotas.
00:17:17It's a supercapacitor, which is essentially a battery that charges up and then delivers to all wheels,
00:17:22which is a dispensation to the petrol car.
00:17:24Oh, do you know what?
00:17:26He got away with that.
00:17:26If he'd have lipped in a bit worse, find you.
00:17:29Not a great deal of a front splitter available.
00:17:32Let's have a look.
00:17:32It looks like they may well have carried a bit too much heat in the place as they arrived here,
00:17:39which is why we're having a light dusting on.
00:17:41We have got a fire.
00:17:42Goodness me.
00:17:44Keep it sensible, fellas.
00:17:4551 car running fourth in class, by the way.
00:17:48Give me Bruni.
00:17:49It was the brought it in.
00:17:51And are you ready?
00:17:53It can actually look more serious to the untrained eye than it actually is, that sort of scenario.
00:18:00And you could just see there, he didn't really want to get in, did he?
00:18:05It's like getting into the oven.
00:18:06Yeah, exactly.
00:18:07Well, it's nice and warm in there.
00:18:11The crew chief telling him.
00:18:13McNish, there he is in the two car, just suddenly appears out of the far side of the woodland.
00:18:20And we've got a spinner.
00:18:21There it's the Dempsey car, the 77 machine that has just got himself up into third place podium spot.
00:18:28And I think he's going to see that.
00:18:30Oh, nightmare.
00:18:32I think he may well just have done as the Ferrari of Griffin 61 machine.
00:18:38Let's see how this went.
00:18:40Well, we said it was a skidway surface, and this is the moment.
00:18:44Let's have a look.
00:18:46There we go, back end.
00:18:49Oh, yeah.
00:18:50He carried too much speed there, and he went completely over to way too much kerb.
00:18:55In fact, he was way inside.
00:18:57There was a sleeping policeman, and he drove, actually, quite a bit back in the track.
00:19:03I was wondering if he was going to drive back in the pits there, but fortunately for him, he turned it around, and he's on his way again.
00:19:12Yes, I think that's four flat spots, though, however.
00:19:16Completely lock up, going sideways, not the way that tyres are supposed to run.
00:19:20Audi preparing for a stop, and it's the...
00:19:24Oh, look at that.
00:19:24We're going proper wets.
00:19:26They've read the weather.
00:19:27They are very hot on this, and the two car comes in off the lead.
00:19:31Yeah, and, you know, it's only five laps and six laps since the Toyota has been in, so this is going to...
00:19:41Is it five?
00:19:42Yeah, something like that.
00:19:44Not even since the Toyota has been in.
00:19:47Yeah, I think it is five laps since the Toyota has been in, so this is going to suit the Audi much better.
00:19:52Very much so.
00:19:54Clean-up operation done.
00:19:56Almost dusted.
00:19:57And there is the air gun waiting to work.
00:20:05Fuel man off, and wheel men on, and you can see the deep grooves.
00:20:11There are a number of grades of wet tyres, by the way.
00:20:15I'm not sure what compound they've gone for, but it's clearly from the profile.
00:20:19It's built for rain, and here we go.
00:20:21Yeah, they've obviously got some good information there that it's actually going to continue to rain for some while,
00:20:28because, well, certainly in my stints here in the booth, that's the first time I've seen them take wets in this race.
00:20:34Obviously, it was raining last night when I was sleeping.
00:20:36Yes, so we can only dream as to what may have been taking place then.
00:20:42Believe me, our minds were full of that.
00:20:44Two hours sleep we got last night, and we were on the track yesterday morning at nine, way ahead of the event.
00:20:50So, in fact, we've already done our 24 hours and more.
00:20:54Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:20:58Watch the barriers as well.
00:20:59Any damage?
00:21:01I think possibly.
00:21:02We've got a car dead centre of the screen.
00:21:05Driver is free, but there's no moving it.
00:21:07And away he goes.
00:21:08And that was a swift exit and hardly surprising.
00:21:12It's in an extraordinarily dangerous position.
00:21:14And we have all kinds of debris, and that looks mechanical as well.
00:21:19Part of a block of something, as well as the carbon fibre.
00:21:26And they've got to be careful here around this chicane on the Maltan.
00:21:30That's the first chicane, and that's Fred McAvacky, isn't it?
00:21:33I think that was in that car.
00:21:35Do you know what?
00:21:35It amazes me that drivers come round, they see the flags, they get the warning audio as well.
00:21:41And they're still getting into some of the debris because they're approaching it too quickly.
00:21:45Yeah, that's not another safety car is out, obviously, to clear up that mess.
00:21:50But that's not what Aston Martin wanted at all.
00:21:55That was a class leader.
00:21:56It's not what any of us wanted, frankly.
00:21:59We have been dogged with this throughout, and it's happened yet again.
00:22:03As soon as we get a skittery surface, it comes to pass.
00:22:09You can see the mechanics, Aston Martin mechanics, hugging each other there.
00:22:16Their day is done.
00:22:18Their race is run, and a race that they so, so much wanted to win.
00:22:23It has gone away from them.
00:22:28The 99 Aston Martin, it's McAvacky.
00:22:31At least he got clear.
00:22:33There it is.
00:22:34Heavy impact running third in glass.
00:22:38First, I should say, and Peter Dunbrecht now into second place.
00:22:42It was the leader.
00:22:42And is that victory that they were gunning for on behalf of, of course, the fallen Alan Simerson?
00:22:50Well, you saw they gave it their best shot.
00:22:52But, unfortunately, the rain and a very, very difficult surface has beaten them.
00:23:00Now, then, the big question is, can Peter Dunbrecht battle this one out?
00:23:03He's 4.6 seconds in arrears of Mark Lieb in the Porsche.
00:23:08That's one and two as they come behind the safety car.
00:23:10So, they are very, very close at hand.
00:23:13And that's going to be one heck of a battle on the restart.
00:23:16How long that takes to get to that point is anybody's guess.
00:23:20But the 99 car in the hands of McAvacky has hit the barriers off the lead, unfortunately.
00:23:30And it has been a huge emotional rollercoaster for the boys at Aston Martin.
00:23:36And not surprised to see the emotions coming to the fore.
00:23:41In case you didn't know, we lost Alan Simonson in this race right at the beginning.
00:23:46First fatality at Le Mans during the race since 1986 when Joe Gartner sadly was killed after leaving the track
00:23:57and heading into the trees on the Mulsanne.
00:24:02But, yes, Alan Simonson hit the Armco.
00:24:05And we understand the Armco was bedded next to a tree and there was no give.
00:24:11There will be questions about that.
00:24:13That's what's being reported, incidentally.
00:24:15There will be a full investigation.
00:24:16So, if that proves to be incorrect, then please accept that we're just giving you the news as we find it,
00:24:22albeit from a very reputable source, which is why we're prepared to release that information.
00:24:28Yes, this is super slow-mo time.
00:24:32That's a fantastic clip there.
00:24:34What you can see there is the fablon, the wrapping above the windscreen in the Audi,
00:24:39has blown off with the wind, and it's actually catching on the windscreen wiper,
00:24:46and it's threatening to pull the rubber off the blade.
00:24:49There we are. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
00:24:51You're seeing the remnants of what has been a very busy night for very many vehicles.
00:24:58Unbelievable.
00:24:58Mark Cole is just about to rejoin us at a very dramatic moment as the 99 Aston Martin has essentially crashed out of this race.
00:25:08Leading the GT Pro category.
00:25:11Machiavelli got himself clear, but we're under another safety car.
00:25:15And a real sadness amongst Aston Martin, not only after the loss of Alan Simonson, the Great Dane,
00:25:22but as well now that they're attempting to win it for him.
00:25:26And look at that.
00:25:27That is a crestfallen Machiavelli.
00:25:29Head down.
00:25:31He will not want to come back because it looked like driver error, I've got to say.
00:25:35Well, I don't know.
00:25:35It's very difficult to speculate there.
00:25:39You know, there's white lines.
00:25:43The car took a sharp turn to the left.
00:25:45It really did.
00:25:46Whether that was, you know, it slipped on the lost traction on the white lines, I don't know.
00:25:52But I'll tell you what, it was moving at some considerable pace and it's done a lot of damage.
00:25:57But you have to feel sorry for the team and Machiavelli who's sitting there with his head down.
00:26:02This team has gone through hell this weekend, unfortunately.
00:26:07And this is the lead Aston Martin that you're seeing here, parked on the side of the track, exiting the first chicane.
00:26:15Yes.
00:26:16As they file by and all have a good look, and presumably as well, just sparing a thought once again for Alan Simonson as they go by.
00:26:26And it's difficult, you know, if I could explain to the viewers, these mechanics, the whole team have been up all night.
00:26:34But not only have they been up all night, they've been here over a week probably.
00:26:38They've done, you know, various practice sessions.
00:26:41They've done, you know, there's no such thing as lunchtimes, you know, as finishing at six, starting at nine.
00:26:48It's an incredible amount of work.
00:26:50And the amount of emotions that's involved in just that sort of physical element alone, let alone what they've, you know, had to incur in the death of Alan Simonson.
00:27:02So, you know, our thoughts are with this team right now.
00:27:06Absolutely.
00:27:07They are not out of the chase yet, let's not forget.
00:27:12Peter Dumbrake very much still involved, and he will restart directly almost behind Mark Lieb in the Porsche.
00:27:20So it should be very feisty as we restart.
00:27:23Restart.
00:27:28Illuminating on what might have been.
00:27:30Yeah, here we see the strength of the cast twitches, and then suddenly it clicks left into the guardrail.
00:27:38Well, you're also trying to see these images.
00:27:48Yes, we were all very surprised by this impression of a wet tinsel on the car.
00:27:54Well, is there something that could provoke this movement, absolutely, that could touch the surface of the car?
00:28:02Well, we're all very surprised by this one, but we're all very surprised by this one.
00:29:02Welcome back.
00:29:19Yet again, we have a safety car at the exit of the first chicane on the Mulsanne Strait.
00:29:26Just coming through right now, Alan McNish.
00:29:29But the bad news for Aston Martin is that their bad news continues.
00:29:35Off the lead, unfortunately, crashing into the barriers.
00:29:39And I've got to say that the pattern of the accident mirrored that of Alan Simonsen,
00:29:44who was sadly killed in this race at the beginning.
00:29:48Very close to the top.
00:29:49So emotions running very, very high.
00:29:51They were, of course, racing on in order to win it for Alan.
00:29:54They still have a chance in the hands of Peter Dunbrecht right now at the restart.
00:29:59He is just a handful of seconds behind Mark Leib.
00:30:02So they will essentially start together.
00:30:04So it will be the Porsche of Mark Leib against the Aston of Peter Dunbrecht with, what, just under five hours remaining.
00:30:12A lot of racing still to be done as we welcome back Mark Cole.
00:30:15Thank you, Carl Dunbrecht.
00:30:16And Peter Dunbrecht couldn't wish for better teammates.
00:30:19Stefan Mooker and Darren Turner, two of the fastest Aston Martin drivers in history.
00:30:23And that car at the moment is 2.3 seconds behind Mark Leib in the safety car train.
00:30:28Been a huge amount of talk in the last two hours about Le Mans and the future of the circuit with the current barriers.
00:30:36I mean, these barriers were made three tiers after Joe Gartner's fatal accident in 1986 in the Kramer Porsche.
00:30:42That was on the La Linde droite, the Mulsanne Strait.
00:30:45The problem here is a lot of the barriers, the posts are mounted in sand.
00:30:50This is a very sandy part of France and a lot of them not in concrete.
00:30:53So this is why barriers are moving.
00:30:55And people are saying, how did the FIA circuit inspector, how will he pass this circuit for next year,
00:31:03having seen not only Alan Simonson's accident, which may not have been caused by the barriers,
00:31:07but it was certainly a catalyst for a good long look at all the barriers.
00:31:12And we've had so many stoppages now because holes have been punched in barriers, both in practice, qualifying and in the race.
00:31:18Mark, it was the proximity of a tree behind the barrier that caused, we understand, Alan Simonson's death.
00:31:24Far too close to the barrier.
00:31:25It didn't have the gear at the point that he hit it.
00:31:27That's going to have to be addressed.
00:31:29There's going to be some tree clearance, surely, to build in some flexibility into the system at that point.
00:31:34But we have been told quite categorically that by ACO and by Aston Martin that the cause of the accident
00:31:40and the effect of the accident is not yet known.
00:31:44And they've asked us not to speculate.
00:31:46So I haven't heard about the tree before, but certainly.
00:31:50It's just a thought.
00:31:51Next year, ACO is not poor.
00:31:54It's a cash-rich club now.
00:31:55And they're going to have to look at all these barriers in the pictures here.
00:31:59They're not just three.
00:31:59Some of them are four.
00:32:00And just consider what will happen.
00:32:02Yes, I mean, it's a tricky one, isn't it?
00:32:05It's difficult to know what to do.
00:32:07You've got to have some protection.
00:32:09You can see how many stanchions, vertical stanchions, are behind that barrier there.
00:32:12An incredible amount.
00:32:14You know, there's got to be...
00:32:16These barriers are designed to, I think, anyway, to take some of the impact.
00:32:21So they're designed to move a little bit, I would understand.
00:32:24But, you know, if this was a street circuit, for example, that would probably be either a barrier or a wall if it was in America.
00:32:30Yeah, but they wouldn't be doing these speeds necessarily on a street circuit, would they?
00:32:34Well, probably not.
00:32:36Yeah.
00:32:36And the other thing, of course, how bad an image is it for the ACO, for the World Endurance Championship, for motorsport in general?
00:32:43For every couple of hours, we see lines of trucks with arm co-barriers and JCBs trundling along the circuit.
00:32:50I mean, it doesn't look good, does it?
00:32:52It's not modern.
00:32:53And then after Neil Jani's accident, we saw one of the workers with a sledgehammer banging in a post.
00:32:58I mean, I live in farming communities, and they haven't used sledgehammers for posts for 20 years.
00:33:04You have a tractor with a compressor.
00:33:05A whole sequence of replays of incidents that we've had in and around safety cars, which have peppered this event.
00:33:13There we are, a little bit more to repair the damage, so the safety car stays out.
00:33:17And the hanging his head, unfortunately, is Makiveki.
00:33:22The 99 car, which was in the lead of the GT Pro class, is now being low-loaded away.
00:33:27Its campaign is over.
00:33:28However, it rests now in the hands of Peter Dunbrecht to win this in the memory of Alan Simonson.
00:33:36Can't you just confirm this will be the 11th safety car period, I believe?
00:33:40I believe it might be 12.
00:33:42We're torn.
00:33:43We are torn.
00:33:44And we believe there may have been one while we were asleep.
00:33:48We counted those.
00:33:49We counted those.
00:33:50And when we came back on air this morning, there'd been eight.
00:33:52And we've had two since then, for sure.
00:33:54That was the second one, first prompted by the oil spillage, the second by Neil Janney, immediately punching a hole in the barriers.
00:34:01I think one of the confusions may well be that we had a safety car.
00:34:06Then it was lights out and preparing for a restart.
00:34:09And then the safety car was re-engaged because of rain in the night.
00:34:13And so I don't know whether that was counted as two.
00:34:15Yeah, we've seen too much of the heavy lifting gear, haven't we?
00:34:18Yeah, that's a rubber duck.
00:34:19What they call a rubber duck.
00:34:21Is that what they call it in Dublin?
00:34:24That's what they call it at home anyway, yeah.
00:34:26A rubber duck is up in Dublin.
00:34:26It's an excavator, otherwise known as a digger on wheels.
00:34:31He's off to dig a hole somewhere, is he?
00:34:34I think they dispense with the bucket and then use it as a lifter in order to get Armco into the correct place.
00:34:41There's a super slow-mo of the tricolor and indeed of those enjoying themselves on the Ferris wheel.
00:34:47Well, that's all they can look at at the moment while this is going on because the last thing that the ACO and the community of Le Mans and La South want is pictures of diggers trundling up and down the main road.
00:34:58And while these ultra-high-tech racing cars are going by them at 50 or 60 kilometres an hour, lap after lap after lap.
00:35:07Yeah, you would like to think that there's a more efficient system than a barrier, especially when they have to repair them so often, as you alluded to.
00:35:16But, you know, I don't know, do you replace them all with walls, concrete walls?
00:35:22Like here.
00:35:23Like there.
00:35:24The problem is these are public roads.
00:35:26People have houses along these roads, you know, and this is used two, three times a year.
00:35:30We've got the Le Mans motorcycle event coming up in a couple of months' time and very few events here.
00:35:37Most of the time, these are public roads.
00:35:39Yeah, but the concrete walls are just shuttered concrete slabs that are just sort of lifted into position, so, you know, they don't penetrate the ground as far as I know.
00:35:48Like, for example, the barrier would do with the stanchions behind it, so I don't know.
00:35:52That's a good point from our driver expert.
00:35:54Yeah, we just got a clip there of the barrier.
00:35:57It's very badly penetrated, so it looks like another lengthy repair.
00:36:02I don't know whether they've taken the middle rung out of that, but, yeah.
00:36:06There's a, there's a, we've just got a note now to say on screen that estimated time for barrier repair is 30 to 40 minutes.
00:36:14We're looking to see how long this safety car period will be.
00:36:18If it's going to be a long time, we will think about putting Andre back into the car, okay?
00:36:27Okay.
00:36:28Oh, that was a long silence.
00:36:29Otherwise your last stint in the car gets too close to the maximum driving time.
00:36:34Okay, beautiful.
00:36:36There we are.
00:36:37Okay, you're the boss.
00:36:39Disappointed no driver likes to be withdrawn from the action.
00:36:42Yeah, but...
00:36:43And Marcel Fasler.
00:36:44Well, she explained the strategy.
00:36:45It was clear as daylight, which we have re-found after going through the night, and it's brought some rain, and yet again it's brought safety cars, Mark.
00:36:56Yeah, 30 to 40 minutes, as we just said, we just heard, and Lena Gade telling her number one driver, Marcel Fasler, two times winner, of course, back to back.
00:37:06Not going to win it this year, though.
00:37:08Telling they're going to have to pull him in because, Damien, you can only drive for four hours in any six-hour period.
00:37:14But, yeah, and that's part of the other strategy.
00:37:16I mean, it's just, you know, to use your term just there, it's peppered with strategy, this event, which is why it's so appealing and why it's so challenging also.
00:37:28So, you just heard Lena Gade there, so obviously they're monitoring the progress and the duration of the drivers in any particular stint, and they have to keep an eye on that because otherwise you would incur a penalty.
00:37:44Well, it's been busy, but perhaps for some of the wrong reasons, waiting for this safety car period to elapse, and then, oh, gosh, they're brave souls, aren't they?
00:37:55They haven't spent an awful lot on their tent, and some haven't spent money on a tent at all.
00:38:00I think, yes, I'm still not quite sure whether it's actually better to be inside a wet tent or outside with an umbrella.
00:38:08Yes, so you take your pick.
00:38:10Or sleep in a dry car.
00:38:12Yeah, exactly.
00:38:14Difficult if you've got a motorbike.
00:38:16I'm here with Ricardo Gonzalez from the number 35 car, currently leading LMP2, a fantastic effort you've had so far in very difficult conditions.
00:38:25Still spotting rain, then, as the cars continue to circulate behind the safety car, this is going to be a long, long run.
00:38:31And there will definitely be, and I used this for three, but since we had to change tires because of the rain, we did a driver change, so we need to keep Martin as long as we can in the car,
00:38:45so then we have the window for Bertrand to finish the race.
00:38:49So have you currently swapped onto intermediate tires?
00:38:52Yeah, yeah, it was completely damped, and the straightaway is very dangerous.
00:38:56I think we saw the accidents that happened because of the water, so we played it safe, and I think that was a good call.
00:39:05And you did a very long stint in the car.
00:39:07How was it out there?
00:39:08It must be getting very dirty out on the circuit.
00:39:10Lots of debris out there by now.
00:39:12Yeah, and mainly it's changing conditions.
00:39:15Yes, and then you have parts of the track, since it's so big, that are completely different, so you have areas that are completely dry, areas that are completely wet, clean, dirty, so it's tough to keep up with the track.
00:39:28Okay, well, best of luck.
00:39:29Well done.
00:39:30Best luck indeed.
00:39:32I think everyone's going to need it, to be honest.
00:39:35Just looking at the 49 Orica driver change, Paris Kompank has climbed into that vehicle.
00:39:41Mark Lieb and Peter Dunbrecht is going to be the big battle, but this is the reason why, unfortunately, Maki Vecchi and the 99 Aston are no longer involved.
00:39:52Yes, unfortunately, he also just hit the barrier just before the lift-out part, which is for a side road,
00:39:58and so it's permanent barrier here, not temporary barrier, and this is why we're going to have such, such long repairs again.
00:40:06Just looking at biggest progress of the race, Danny Watts in the number 21, Stracca, HPD.
00:40:12They started 36, they're now in sixth place, and they appear to be, at the moment, the only LNP1 private here running, don't they?
00:40:20When I spoke to Nick Leventis on the grid yesterday afternoon, he said, hopefully all our bad luck's behind us, all we've got to do is finish, and we could be on the podium.
00:40:29Well.
00:40:29Yeah, that's quite a fate.
00:40:34Obviously, we had the problems for both the Rebellion cars earlier with Belicci, he's still in the pits.
00:40:44Yeah, he's been, apparently he has been treated by the doctor, he's complaining of severe rib pains, which is not surprising when you see the impact.
00:40:53He took a big hit.
00:40:54Head first in, wasn't it?
00:40:55Yeah.
00:40:56The team have changed, they were changing in those box, the crash box, but whether or not they're going to get back out, I think very, very unlikely, Damien, having seen how much damage there was.
00:41:05Well, they were certainly working in a sort of, in a manner that would let you believe that they're going to come back out again.
00:41:15And then there's Dr. Ulrich letting a big yawn out of himself, so he's obviously been up all night.
00:41:21Just a quick word for dailysportscar.com, they've had a lot of problems this weekend with the internet down throughout most of the race in the media centre.
00:41:28They've done a great job there, they've done hourly summaries, even though they couldn't do live streaming.
00:41:33And our thanks to Graham Goodwin, to Mark Housen, to Stephen Kilby and Marcus Potts, and it is free, it has been all weekend, so tune in to dailysportscar.com just to get the latest news.
00:41:44It's news as it happens.
00:41:46Yeah, it's a terrific service incidentally, and if endurance racing is your thing, then it's a go-to site.
00:41:53And in fact, if you want to catch up for free, it is a subscription site, so if you want to see how it shapes up and exactly what they're offering, then do log on and enjoy.
00:42:03Yeah, but tomorrow it goes back to subscription, so this is a treat because they relaunched the website, they said we'll do the bomb free of charge, and then it's back to subscription.
00:42:14I'll do everything, and I wait for both there.
00:42:18Just do the minimum you need, do the minimum you need.
00:42:22There we are.
00:42:23But you should be able to do already quite a bit with the boost.
00:42:26There we are.
00:42:40I'm sorry.
00:43:10Thank you very much for the next message, estimations of the information for the RMSC.
00:43:143040, so 10h30, so 10h30, so 10h30, so 10h30, so that's it.
00:45:10And to drive that car here is just fantastic, so we just enjoy and till the end of a race
00:45:16because it's only one time a year we can do that.
00:45:19That's a great attitude.
00:45:20And you're getting in for the finish, is that correct?
00:45:22Yeah, I should be in for the finish, but I don't know.
00:45:25With a safety car, maybe it's not going to happen, but I hope I can still drive again.
00:45:30I hope so too.
00:45:31Thank you very much.
00:45:32Yeah, we're assuming that Alan McNish, who's in now, will be triple stinting, or would
00:45:38have been if without the safety car, and that Loacque Duvin would be put in for the finale.
00:45:43I mean, that's what Audi want, a French driver winning Le Mans.
00:45:46And how good is that for car sales on Monday morning, Damien?
00:45:50Yeah, I would say that would be the icing on the cake, wouldn't it, to put Lucas in at
00:45:54the end.
00:45:55So, yeah, we'll see how that pans out.
00:45:58But it's just interesting to hear Benoit Trillier there.
00:46:01He's dying, just itching to get back behind the wheel again.
00:46:05You know, such as the fabulous car that this Audi is.
00:46:09This is his circuit.
00:46:09It comes from Alonso, which is only 50 kilometers up the road.
00:46:12This is his local track.
00:46:14Okay, he's done a lot of his racing in Japan, but he's at home here.
00:46:18Yeah, life has worked out pretty well for him, hasn't it?
00:46:21It has.
00:46:21So, this guy's inherited the podium position, hasn't he, from Makovic's crash.
00:46:29That's Timo Bernhardt.
00:46:30We're on board in the second of the factory cars.
00:46:32So, we've got Porsche, Aston, Porsche.
00:46:36The only good news for Aston Martin is that Peter Dunbrek is on the same lap as Mark Lieb,
00:46:41and they're running nose to tail at the moment.
00:46:45Carlton?
00:46:47It's busy.
00:46:48I was just checking through some of your tweets.
00:46:51There's many suggestions as to what should happen to barriers, indeed.
00:46:57It's going to be a costly exercise, actually, to fix this problem, which has been highlighted.
00:47:00You can't take a risk on the weather the way it is at the moment,
00:47:04and it's been that sort of greasy rain which has caused the problem, essentially.
00:47:08It's made for a very skittery surface and a hard tire choice conundrum to be worked out.
00:47:14As a result, most people are on compromised tires, whether it's a drying track,
00:47:20so your wets aren't going to work properly, whether it's a slightly damp track,
00:47:24so your slicks aren't working properly.
00:47:26It's a hard one to call, but unfortunately, those barriers are pretty hard as well.
00:47:31Yeah, and it's been, you know, changing conditions all weekend and even before in the lead-up.
00:47:36So you had several teams, in fact, probably all of the teams, struggling to get a proper setup dialed in.
00:47:44You know, I remember listening to the Audi, I think it was Dr. Ulrich or perhaps one of the drivers
00:47:50before he even travelled over here to Le Mans, and he was being interviewed,
00:47:54and he was just saying that, look, you know, we have so much more to do.
00:47:57And, you know, at the time, the cars were the fastest, and, you know, so it just, there's never enough time.
00:48:04But with the changing conditions, I think, I don't think there was anyone happy, really, with the balance of the car.
00:48:10They're just looking for the best balance and, you know, thinking on the race all the time.
00:48:14You know what? In motorsport, everything's a compromise.
00:48:18You make one turn one way, and you destabilise something else.
00:48:22Because within the pattern of setting a vehicle up, that's the way it goes, there is always a cost to a step forward.
00:48:30And, unfortunately, you are always, always trying to find that magic balance, which can never quite be there.
00:48:38There's always something you could have done.
00:48:40Yeah, and it's particularly important here with the, you know, high-speed Porsche curves.
00:48:43I mean, that is, you know, the final part in Sector 3.
00:48:47That is extremely fast, and it's really important to have a car that's well-balanced there.
00:48:53You certainly don't want oversteer, that's for sure.
00:48:55Understeer, you could probably deal with a little bit.
00:48:57But it's so, so fast, and the corners are so long that you really want your car well-balanced there.
00:49:03And, of course, that's the high-speed.
00:49:04And we didn't even talk about the low-speed or braking, what the cars are like into the chicanes, for example, and then traction and so on and so forth.
00:49:12There is a compromise when you need that downforce, some highly technical areas separated by very, very long high-speed durations.
00:49:21Yeah, and these cars are so sceptical to the tiniest move.
00:49:26I mean, ride heights with the prototypes, there's so much air being used that even, you know, a half-turn on the platform with ride height,
00:49:35which would probably equate to, you know, a millimetre or very little more, will make such a difference to the handling of the car.
00:49:41Not only to the balance of the weight distribution, but actually because there's so much aero to the downforce.
00:49:47Absolutely.
00:49:48Right.
00:49:48Le Mans, ACO itself on their website saying this is the 10th safety car period, and there's been over four and a half hours of running under safety cars.
00:49:57The record for the 81 races, the safety car periods, is four hours, 53 minutes in 2011, and this is likely to be beaten today.
00:50:10There we are.
00:50:12Yes, we had some pretty big impacts back then, and it's been the same this time by with one fatality in this year's race.
00:50:21Alan Simington, let's remind you.
00:50:22Yes, not a joyful thing, and in fact, for Aston Martin, their grief has been compounded by their attempts to win this,
00:50:35and unfortunately the 99 car has just had a big impact as well, which is why we have this safety car right now.
00:50:42They still have a chance for a Peter Dunbrake.
00:50:43If you need to keep the temperatures up on the brakes and tyres, then use it, but otherwise fuel save is good.
00:50:48Yeah, I need it sometimes to drive against the brakes for rising the engine temperature.
00:50:57Yeah, you just got a nice radio communication there from Lina Gay to Marcel Fasler in the number one Audi,
00:51:08just giving them instruction as to what to do regarding tyre temperatures and saving fuel,
00:51:15and it's amazing how much valuable information that you can get from the pits and, obviously, Lina Gay is on top of that.
00:51:24She was going for the hat-trick here, wasn't she?
00:51:26She was.
00:51:27The master strategist, or strategist, we should say.
00:51:30She's talking about the brakes.
00:51:31Now, what is she saying?
00:51:32Is she just saying, keep the brake pedals slightly down, keep the pads warm, or...?
00:51:36It's actually a part, we've heard it before, the Toyotas were being instructed to run at 50% throttle
00:51:43to actually energise the retrieval system, so that when it comes to that moment where the safety car comes off,
00:51:52they have on board the boost that they require.
00:51:55I'm not sure whether she's previewing that and saying further ahead down the line,
00:51:59that's what we're going to be asking you to do.
00:52:00Weren't you doing that in the Jaguar this morning on the way in here?
00:52:04Left foot on the brake?
00:52:06Not the Jaguar again.
00:52:08We were feathering the XJR as we came in.
00:52:10Not Curbo.
00:52:11Yes, exactly, the monster.
00:52:13Curbo car.
00:52:14If you're listening, Teddy, Daddy's still driving his car like an animal.
00:52:18So, here we go.
00:52:20Sean Edwards, my old friend and rival, he's looking for a mention here.
00:52:25He's just tweeted.
00:52:26He's asking, why are Le Mans not using tech pro barriers that are used in F1?
00:52:31Plastic barriers that absorbs impact, super safe, and easy to replace?
00:52:35I don't know, Sean.
00:52:37Sorry, for a moment there, I thought I'd missed a competitor,
00:52:40and you were talking about this vehicle as you were looking.
00:52:43No, Willie is a competitor, actually.
00:52:45I know, but he's just not here.
00:52:46He's just not on screen at the moment.
00:52:47Unfortunately.
00:52:48Where are you, Sean?
00:52:48Why are you tweeting?
00:52:49Why aren't you here?
00:52:51There we are.
00:52:52He's doing really well in the ODA CGT Masters this year, and other racing.
00:52:57What a great career the guy's having at the moment.
00:52:59Yeah, Sean's racing in the ALMS as well.
00:53:03There's many other things.
00:53:04Of course, Father Guy Wood's a man always associated with Le Mans in a variety of cars he bought over here,
00:53:09all through the 70s and 80s, and Sean following his dad.
00:53:14And the man credited with introducing sponsorship to motor racing, right?
00:53:18Exactly.
00:53:19Yeah.
00:53:20Still was.
00:53:21There is Mr. Fix-It.
00:53:22I think it started some time earlier than that, even.
00:53:28So, yeah, the gone.
00:53:30We've just got five and a half cars, haven't we, running still?
00:53:33Six and a half cars still running in P1.
00:53:36Just looking for the number 12.
00:53:37That is right out at the moment.
00:53:38Nico Prost.
00:53:39He is in 26th place in the number 12 Rebellion.
00:53:42But the other car, Balicci's car, still in the garage is still being worked upon.
00:53:47And as we heard, Balicci has been attended to by the team doctor for what's probably going to be very severe bruising,
00:53:54the same as Tracy Crone suffered on Wednesday night.
00:53:58So, it's McNish for Audi at the front of the safety car train.
00:54:02Martin Plowman at the moment on board the 35 Oak Morgan, leading P2.
00:54:09It's Mark Lieb for Porsche, leading pro.
00:54:12And it is still our friends in the Mahmoud Imse Porsche, Jean-Carl Venet, back on board that car.
00:54:19We noticed that they put Jean-Carl Venet only in for one stint, didn't we, earlier, Damien?
00:54:25And then suddenly he's now back in the car again.
00:54:29Yeah, and I'm not sure.
00:54:30Yeah, I'm not sure why that is.
00:54:32But we just, sorry to cut across you, we just had the 97.
00:54:37That's the Dunbrecht car, yeah.
00:54:38Dunbrecht car come in.
00:54:39And Darren Turner was, of course, sat there waiting for quite some time.
00:54:43Save that fuel.
00:54:44Save that fuel.
00:54:45You're doing a great job.
00:54:47Stretch the fuel out.
00:54:48There we are.
00:54:49Lucas Ordine is being informed that he's doing a great job of just stretching that.
00:54:54Stretching the fuel.
00:54:55Exactly.
00:54:56Well, he's got to get as much mileage as he possibly can.
00:55:01It's range that we're talking.
00:55:02And they have been locked in a fantastic battle.
00:55:06The 42 car, incidentally, in third place.
00:55:08They're on the podium.
00:55:09They got by Rusinov, incidentally.
00:55:12Just looking at their pit strategy.
00:55:14They say stretch the fuel.
00:55:16They've made 21 stops in the 42 car.
00:55:19Prepare that to the 26 car of the Orica of Rusinov.
00:55:23Rusinov with 25 stops in total.
00:55:27That tells you the story you need to know.
00:55:28Yeah.
00:55:28This hasn't changed since midnight.
00:55:30Those three cars have been on the podium.
00:55:32And, of course, Ordine is taking over from Jan Marden, who's done a fantastic job.
00:55:37Well, actually, Rusinov was ahead of Ordine is for much of this morning.
00:55:40And it's been a real battle back.
00:55:42They were separated around about 15, 20 seconds.
00:55:47And he's found himself in the right place right now.
00:55:49But he's being told to look after his fuel.
00:55:52So, clearly, they're trying to reduce their stops by one before the end.
00:55:56And, of course, I'd just like to point out when he's just given that instruction to save fuel,
00:56:01these cars will be all running around in very high gears with low revs to save as much fuel as possible.
00:56:07And that's how, for example, they would stretch it behind the safety car.
00:56:13The two car looks like it is coming in.
00:56:16And, in fact, goodness me, I don't know why.
00:56:19It looked like he was carrying a bit too much pace beyond the speed gun there.
00:56:24Let's hope that's not the case.
00:56:26It's just my eyes.
00:56:27I looked down at the commentary position.
00:56:29And, to me, anyway, it looked like he was...
00:56:32The speed gun doesn't start until they actually get into the pit lane proper.
00:56:35This is just the entrance.
00:56:37So, don't worry about that, Carlton.
00:56:38Yeah, but they all slow down.
00:56:41You can see the pit lane speed limit line here on the two little signs.
00:56:45Yes, that's what I was looking at beyond that.
00:56:47I wouldn't like to chance it any faster after that.
00:56:49Neither would I, especially in a situation such as this.
00:56:52And let's just hope that there was none of that.
00:56:55And that it was, indeed, a clean stop.
00:56:58Magnus is in the vehicle, but not for much longer.
00:57:02Quick switch.
00:57:06Leuch de Waal being called to the two car.
00:57:09And here we are.
00:57:10So far, it's been an incredible fight between the Porsche 92 and the Aston Martin.
00:57:15But very difficult conditions today for all of the drivers.
00:57:18Well, unbelievable.
00:57:20I mean, the fight since the first lap, I have to say.
00:57:22So, now it's nearly 20 hours with a gap of one or two seconds.
00:57:27So, yeah, very difficult.
00:57:29Unfortunately, one of the Aston had an accident a few minutes ago.
00:57:33You know, at the end, we are pushing so hard that a few things was clear that it will happen somehow from somebody.
00:57:40With the rain and so on, you have to take a lot of risk.
00:57:44You know, it's only four hours to go.
00:57:45So, we are pushing more and more.
00:57:48We will see.
00:57:48I mean, the race is still very open.
00:57:50Now, we have two Porsche on the top three.
00:57:52So, we can play a little bit with that, I think, and take possibly a little bit more risk in one car, yes.
00:57:57Well, certainly, it would be wonderful to win in the GT car today.
00:58:01Because after this, you'll be going to work on the 2014 prototype car.
00:58:05Tell us about that.
00:58:07All right, yes.
00:58:07We will prepare the car for next year, for the Olympia 1, for sure, for the overall victory.
00:58:12A perfect car.
00:58:13We are working on this car for nearly one year just to prepare the car.
00:58:16You know, with all the experience we get since the Spyder and the Audi staff and so on.
00:58:21So, for sure, the car is very well prepared.
00:58:24We will see.
00:58:25For sure, we hope a lot on this.
00:58:27And, yeah, it's my last GT race, I guess, for a little bit of time now.
00:58:32Great.
00:58:33Okay.
00:58:33Well, good luck.
00:58:34So, not just for Roman, but also for his teammate, Jörg Bergmeister.
00:58:38Both of those guys having their last GT race.
00:58:40We going racing again, Carlton?
00:58:43Back and underway.
00:58:45Safety car is in this lap as declared, and away they go, released from the lights of the pit lane.
00:58:52The most interesting battle is going to be in GT Pro.
00:58:57Lieb, Berard, and Turner, the 36 car, the 91 and 97.
00:59:06It's Porsches and Aston Martin.
00:59:09We'll see how the stops pan out for that.
00:59:10And, indeed, we'll be absolutely laser-guided towards that battle.
00:59:15Lieb does actually owe us a pit stop at the moment.
00:59:17He's only had 17 against the 18 of his teammate, Bernhardt, and the 19 of Darren Turner.
00:59:23So, as you say, we'll see how that pans out.
00:59:25We are racing once again.
00:59:27Four and a half hours to go.
00:59:28We're on board the number one car, Marcel Fasla.
00:59:31Now, he would love to make up ground.
00:59:34Get by, well, possibly even his teammate, I've got to say.
00:59:38It is about bragging rights.
00:59:40Yes, I suspect, Di Grazzi and Fasla are together on track at the moment.
00:59:44In fact, they are a little bit separated.
00:59:46I beg your pardon.
00:59:46It's Nakajima and Di Grazzi who are the most important as far as potential changes are concerned here.
00:59:55Sarazen, Nakajima, two and three at the moment.
00:59:57And it's Leuchte Duval in the number one.
