00:00:00Because they only took the engine from the dope because they got through the engines
00:00:03that were set aside for the Pascarolo chassis, so a fundamental issue there.
00:00:08Apparently, one has to presume in the oiling system or, I mean, you know,
00:00:12jet engines don't blow up, and certainly not four in a row.
00:00:15So clearly something more fundamental there, but what a great shame
00:00:18because those guys really do work hard.
00:00:20Henri Pascarolo is the heart and soul of Le Mans 24-hour racing,
00:00:25a legend in these parts, a former winner, of course, in his own right as a driver.
00:00:28He's raced here, you know, how many times have you raced here, Mark?
00:00:32Thirty times, wasn't it?
00:00:33Thirty-three times.
00:00:34You're the most participating driver, and he's been here another 12, 13 times now as a team owner.
00:00:40From what I understood, then, the dome is out, is it?
00:00:44I don't believe it's out.
00:00:46No, no, no, I don't believe it's out.
00:00:47They had a transmission problem, but I think they've sent it back out again.
00:00:50They were just asking what the problem had been because they'd pushed it into the garage,
00:00:54and I think that other car, they're just waiting at the moment for it to cool down enough
00:00:57for them to actually work on it and see what's going on.
00:01:00But I fear that that could be a terminal problem.
00:01:03Great shame.
00:01:04It's such a shame.
00:01:05And they were always known for being very reliable, a very reliable team with the Pascarolo cars.
00:01:10So, great shame.
00:01:11Henri Pascarolo has always been the spirit of Le Mans, hasn't he?
00:01:15Yeah, no, and I think we're going to have an interview with Bonanomi in a minute,
00:01:21which is great that we're getting so many people down in the pit lane.
00:01:25Just fantastic to be able to hear their side of it and what's actually going on out there with the teams.
00:01:29Marco, of course, sharing that number four Audi with Mike Rockenfella.
00:01:32That's one of the two that's had troubles already in the race.
00:01:36And he'll tell us more, hopefully, in a minute about what's going on.
00:01:38Well, beautiful weather here now at Le Mans.
00:01:40I cannot believe the difference over the warm-up this morning.
00:01:43We sat here in the rain and the cold.
00:01:45Unbelievable.
00:01:45It's a beautiful West France afternoon.
00:01:48It just shows exactly what Le Mans weather is like,
00:01:50that you never actually know what's going to happen until it happens.
00:01:53And I think it's possible we could still get some rain later,
00:01:56but actually looking at it now, it looks like it's blowing over.
00:01:58So, perhaps we'll end up with a dry race all the way through.
00:02:01The only problem here, the prevailing wind, is the south-westerly,
00:02:04which brings any weather from the coast.
00:02:06And so, if there is any bad weather around, it does get dumped on Le Mans.
00:02:10We're very flat here, of course.
00:02:12There's no hills around here to catch that rain, or to stop the rain.
00:02:15So, there we are.
00:02:17There, we just saw the Nissan, the Delta, Delta wing going through.
00:02:21That car at the moment is running in, where are we, Jeremy?
00:02:26Yes, 27.
00:02:27So, it's actually made up two places on its qualifying time.
00:02:30And also, we've just seen the number 15 and the 22 car come into the pits in succession.
00:02:34They've had a great battle from the very beginning of this race.
00:02:37And it looks like the 15 car that got the edge on the 22 in the last pit stop
00:02:41is still just in front of him, but it might just come down to this pit stop.
00:02:45We're going to the pits now for an interview with Marco Bonanami.
00:02:52Marco, how do you feel for your first Le Mans here?
00:02:56Well, it's not a really good start for us.
00:02:58After 30 minutes, we got a problem on the car.
00:03:03Rocky was complaining about the grip, especially the rear tires.
00:03:09And we put the car into the box to check the rear suspension or something,
00:03:12but it looks everything okay.
00:03:14Just today, the track seems really dirty and strange after the big rain from last night.
00:03:21Do you know when you're going to jump in the car?
00:03:26Now I'm asking and probably in two stints, but I really can't wait, you know.
00:03:31I was looking at you.
00:03:33You were really focused and talking with the engineer.
00:03:36Do you ask what Rocky is feeling just to make in mind to help you to go in the car?
00:03:41Well, no, we are running here since three or four days, so nothing really I can learn now.
00:03:50Just to learn some track condition.
00:03:54And it seems like now at the moment everybody is struggling with the tires,
00:04:00but all the cars, so I don't know.
00:04:02I hope we'll be better.
00:04:04Thank you very much.
00:04:05You've seen there, just during the interview, Olivier Beretta and a 71 car is in the gravel,
00:04:11frantically gesturing for the team to push him back out and get him back out on the track.
00:04:16That looks like the entry to the Dunlop chicane.
00:04:20I'm not entirely sure what's happened there, but he looked very keen to get back on the circuit indeed,
00:04:24which means he's going to have a trip around the whole circuit spreading gravel,
00:04:28which could be exciting for everyone else.
00:04:30You're right, and that car was running fifth in GTE before that incident for Olivier Beretta.
00:04:34And we talked a little while ago about Oliver Gowen taking the lead in that class.
00:04:38Well, Stefan Mooker has gained it back again.
00:04:41So Aston Martin car number seven leads again in GTE.
00:04:45Oliver Gowen hard on his heels.
00:04:47And third place in GTE is a GTE Amcar, the Flying Lizard car, car number 79, Patrick Pia.
00:04:55And then Mark Lieb in a number 77 Felbermaier Porsche is fourth place in GTE.
00:05:02Looks like they're just trying to maybe tow him down to some sort of escape road where he can get back away from that gravel.
00:05:07Yeah, that's exactly what they've done there.
00:05:09Yeah, you've got hard standings between the tires and the gravel.
00:05:12So we are 22 hours 30 to go.
00:05:17We're going to take a break here on Eurosport.
00:05:19Stay of us a lot more to...
00:05:21Welcome back to Eurosport, our live coverage of the Le Mans.
00:05:29We're on 24 hours, 22 hours, 28 minutes still to go and so much happening.
00:05:35We have actually lost one car.
00:05:37Liz has just told us...
00:05:39Well, we haven't had an official comment yet, but they did tow it behind the barrier.
00:05:43Went behind the wall.
00:05:44It won't be going anywhere, so that's it done.
00:05:46Went behind the wall and in Europe, if that happens, it doesn't come back like American racing.
00:05:50And I think the driver has left and has gone further away from the car than they can.
00:05:53And I think it's safe to say their tremulous weekend is over.
00:05:58Oh, it's been sad, isn't it?
00:06:00I mean, everything, this whole operation was built around the Japanese driver taking out our hero.
00:06:05And she just never got to grips of it.
00:06:07And that's why they gave her all the running,
00:06:09because she was bringing quite a lot of her sponsorship money for that team.
00:06:12And so Delatraz had to wait, and Mark Rostand had to wait their chance to qualify.
00:06:17They didn't actually do all their night laps, but they did get a waiver from the ACO
00:06:20because they've been regulars at Le Mans for years.
00:06:23So rules can be bent.
00:06:24And they've just had a dreadful season, really, up until now.
00:06:27Nothing's really gone their way.
00:06:29Perhaps this just wasn't their Le Mans.
00:06:31So she's gone from grid girl heroine to zeroine, hasn't she?
00:06:36That was bad, Mark.
00:06:38Oh, dear.
00:06:38Also a note for another car in NLP2 that had an unscheduled pit stop early on.
00:06:45That was a Stadistron pre-entry, started by Yelba Berman.
00:06:49And they had a suspected puncture on that car.
00:06:52That was, I don't know, three or four laps into the race.
00:06:54It was certainly very early.
00:06:55And that car is back out in the fray.
00:06:57And actually, it seems to be running very quickly.
00:06:59I'm not sure where it is on the charts, but it's probably quite a long way down.
00:07:02But it was certainly running pretty quickly.
00:07:05Yeah, it's down in 24th place overall.
00:07:07And that would be 14th place in P2.
00:07:10And Yelba Berman has been one of the quickest cars on the track in P2 recently.
00:07:17But it's still Olivier Pla that leads in NLP2.
00:07:20It can't have been 24, the Morgan Nissan.
00:07:22And he's got about a 24-second lead now over Sohailo Yari for Beekam Racing.
00:07:27And I can tell you why, Jeremy, Olivier Pla ran three laps further than most of the opposition.
00:07:32I think only one car was any closer than that.
00:07:35But three laps in a P2 car.
00:07:37It wasn't three laps.
00:07:38It was one lap more on the first stint.
00:07:41And an extra lap on the second stint as well.
00:07:44The daily sports car was telling us something differently.
00:07:46No, he came in on lap 11 for the first round of pit stops.
00:07:49Everybody else came in on lap 10.
00:07:50Well, that will make a difference, and it truly will add up over the times.
00:07:55The Morgan is like the Audi to the rest of the P2 class, in other words.
00:07:58So very interesting to follow that.
00:08:00And he's a very, very quick driver, Olivier, as well.
00:08:02Yeah, one of the quickest there is, really.
00:08:05And certainly in this class, he'll be one of the fastest there.
00:08:07Yeah, this is his fifth Le Mans.
00:08:09And so he knows the circuit well.
00:08:10He is fairly local.
00:08:11He's from Toulouse, which isn't that far down the road.
00:08:13But same country, anyway.
00:08:15And still a second in class, and as you say, Sohailo Ayari.
00:08:18And Tom Kimber-Smith has actually managed to drop Warren Hughes.
00:08:21He's got Maxime Martin between himself and Warren Hughes.
00:08:24Maxime Martin for Oat Racing.
00:08:27Very well known to those of us who used to follow the Spa 24 Hours,
00:08:30because his dad was Jean-Philippe and uncle, get them right, Michel, yes,
00:08:37who won the Spa 24 Hours every time.
00:08:39He's their son, and he's learned all his racing in the Renault Magan series.
00:08:42Done really well in that.
00:08:43Yeah, and in GTs over the last few years, the GT won World Championship,
00:08:47and he's leading, I think, the Blancpain series, aren't they?
00:08:49Those two, Baz Landis and Maxime Martin, they're leading the Blancpain.
00:08:52Won their last race.
00:08:53Yeah, I think they won four races in a row.
00:08:54They have.
00:08:55They've had an amazing run this year.
00:08:57And their co-driver in that car is the interesting character,
00:08:59David Heinemeyer-Hansen.
00:09:00Who's David Heinemeyer-Hansen, you might say?
00:09:02Well, he's a web developer, a very clever guy,
00:09:06and he's from Denmark originally.
00:09:09Got interested in racing as a kid in Denmark,
00:09:12used to watch Formula One, used to watch Le Mans 24 Hours,
00:09:15and the real turning point for him when he saw Tom Christensen win here at Le Mans
00:09:20for the very first time, he then built himself a career.
00:09:24He made a lot of money, certainly as a web developer and a software developer,
00:09:29moved to North America, got back into racing and started racing only three years ago,
00:09:35and here he is at Le Mans.
00:09:36But he's quite fast.
00:09:38He's driving for Eric Bachelard's concrete endurance team in the United States
00:09:42with that same Morgan-Nissan combination.
00:09:45And he has been pretty close to the pace, not on the pace, certainly,
00:09:50but not far behind both Maxime Martin and Baz Landis.
00:09:53And that number 35 car should be pretty competitive as this race goes along, Mark.
00:10:02Yes, another of the ubiquitous Nissans built by Zytec at Repton near Rugby.
00:10:07This one, as Jeremy said earlier, fitted into the Morgan,
00:10:12Charles Morgan, celebrating 100 years of the Malvern Motor Builder,
00:10:17one of Britain's last independent manufacturers, of course.
00:10:20So that's a branding exercise, very much as Golf and Lotus at this race.
00:10:23And we're watching right now the battle for 4th, 5th and 6th place in the LMP2 class.
00:10:30And it is a real battle indeed.
00:10:32They're just about to come here in front of us.
00:10:33We can see them here really pushing hard.
00:10:36That's the Oak Racing, the Murphy Motorsport, and I couldn't quite see the other one.
00:10:42It must be...
00:10:42You can see the flashing lights there.
00:10:45Most of these cars have got a button on the steering wheel.
00:10:47It's not like in your normal car where you have to pull the flash.
00:10:50It's a button where you push, and they'll probably get five flashes out of one push.
00:10:54So it's not sort of a major physical process like probably a lot of people think.
00:10:58Well, working our way through some GT traffic there.
00:11:00It's a car number 46.
00:11:01That was running in third place earlier on.
00:11:04It slipped back after that round of pit stops.
00:11:06But still, Matthias Bershler really doing a nice job.
00:11:09He's 25 years old.
00:11:10He's from Geneva.
00:11:11He did some racing actually out in Asia in Formula Renault out there.
00:11:16But then came back, and he's been kind of at least a semi-regular in the Formula Le Mans series over here for the last few years.
00:11:23But really doing a fine job in the early stages of this race.
00:11:27Look at this battle going on here.
00:11:29They are absolutely just nose to tail coming through.
00:11:33We're not very long into this race.
00:11:35Only just over an hour and a half into the Le Mans.
00:11:3724 hours.
00:11:38Very, very long way to go still indeed.
00:11:41So we're just picking up with Johnny Kane at the moment.
00:11:43Remember, Straker had this gearbox oil leak having taken the privateer pole for this race.
00:11:50Didn't make the start.
00:11:51Let's start from the pit lane.
00:11:52But Johnny Kane, who is on the circuit now, apparently he's been putting in three 33s lap after lap.
00:11:57That's as quick as two of those Audi's out there.
00:12:00Oh, that's just, that's very impressive.
00:12:01And I think they've got a lot to prove now.
00:12:03They were sort of the favorites for the quote-unquote petrol class win.
00:12:07And, you know, we are seeing Toyota still going on right now.
00:12:10But I think where reliability is talked about, I think Straker's going to have that.
00:12:15But interestingly, they've already had to start from the pit lane.
00:12:19So hopefully they've gotten rid of all their gremlins now.
00:12:21And they'll just be pushing through to the finish without any trouble.
00:12:24Has Johnny managed to drag it into the top for 48 yet?
00:12:27We're still, still down.
00:12:29Well, the amazing thing about a 24-hour race is you can still have a couple problems and then keep it tidy
00:12:34and be amazing where you can pull yourself up to.
00:12:36Nissan Delta-wing in the pits.
00:12:38Been in for quite a long time.
00:12:39I think they've been there for a while.
00:12:40Yes, they have been there for some time.
00:12:42We don't exactly know what happened this time.
00:12:44Just a few minutes ago, probably maybe five minutes or so ago.
00:12:46Been certainly running nicely over the first hour or hour and a few minutes.
00:12:51They've been looking after it a little bit, haven't they?
00:12:53Yeah.
00:12:53But definitely keep going around.
00:12:54They were certainly running, you know, in conjunction with the tail end of the pack in P2.
00:13:01Very, very tight with that oak racing car.
00:13:04And the Murphy prototypes car.
00:13:08I'm not entirely sure who's in each one.
00:13:12Let me see.
00:13:12I can't see the screens.
00:13:13I've got so much glare.
00:13:14Oh, yeah.
00:13:15The Murphy cars.
00:13:15Sort of everybody thinks I'm laying across and trying to see our screens here.
00:13:18It's Warren Hughes in Carnival 48 for Murphy prototypes.
00:13:23And ahead of him is Tom Kimber-Smith in the, or Maxime Martin.
00:13:28Yes, Maxime Martin we're looking at.
00:13:29We're talking about it earlier in the Morgan Oak there.
00:13:32So there's a bit of a gap back from there to Martin Brundle, who is at the wheel of Carnival 42.
00:13:38And look at where the number four car is.
00:13:40After the problems they had already, Mike Rockenfeller has really pushed it all the way up to seventh place already.
00:13:47So, you know, it was only a minute ago they were on our second screen.
00:13:50So it just goes to show, once you get the problems gone, the consistency can really pull you back up.
00:13:54But Warren Hughes definitely lining up the Morgan ahead of him as they go through Porsche curves.
00:13:59Warren's got so much speed through values.
00:14:01He does.
00:14:02Very, very impressive.
00:14:03And he's going to be absolutely wringing the neck of that thing, trying to push it as fast as possible.
00:14:08It really is a sprint race in the LMP classes still.
00:14:12I don't think LMP won as much as we will have seen in previous years when we had the likes of Peugeot.
00:14:16But LMP2 for sure.
00:14:17We've got some debris on the circuit.
00:14:19I'm not entirely sure what it is.
00:14:22It looked almost like some part of the circuit.
00:14:25I can actually see it just in front of an FI hoarding over there.
00:14:28So, here we are.
00:14:30We are now at Le Mans having completed 55 laps.
00:14:37Lotterer and McNeish are just changed at that moment.
00:14:42But 55 laps for the leaders, 56 for most of those following, 57, 58.
00:14:47And then we get this whole gaggle again.
00:14:50We mentioned the P2 battle, which there's nothing to call on it.
00:14:54It's so, so tight.
00:14:55And this is going to run and run and run.
00:14:56Yeah, I was talking to one of the engineers of the teams in LMP2.
00:15:02And he's done an analysis through practice and qualifying.
00:15:06And he's taken the top, well, the fastest of five laps for each driver in each car.
00:15:13And if you average all that out, the top 14 cars in LMP2 were covered by less than 3%, which is not very much.
00:15:22Yeah, we're just hearing there the race director talking about this debris that we can actually see from our pit box.
00:15:31We still don't know what the debris is.
00:15:33It looked sort of odd, like something off the side of the track, even.
00:15:36It didn't necessarily look like it was off of a car, did it, Mark?
00:15:39No.
00:15:39Now, this is very bizarre.
00:15:41We're just talking about the Stracker team.
00:15:42And they're actually running in 51st place.
00:15:45But our screen is telling us they are leading the Michelin Green X Challenge at the moment.
00:15:49Surprise, surprise.
00:15:50OK.
00:15:51It's good they're leading.
00:15:51There's a lot less laps than everyone else.
00:15:53And in GT, Stefan Mooker had pulled out a pretty useful advantage over the Corvette.
00:16:00Well, I would say a pretty useful advantage, probably a couple of seconds at least.
00:16:03But Stefan Mooker has just brought that Carnivor 7 onto pit lane, running 28th overall.
00:16:09That is the class leader in GT into the pit.
00:16:11Oliver Gavin, therefore, does not make a pit stop this time around.
00:16:15Last time, he managed one more lap than did the Aston Martin.
00:16:19So it is now Oliver Gavin who leads GTE for Corvette.
00:16:28Well, we're about to change channels.
00:16:30So if you do lose us on British Erosport 1, just flick over to 2 and you'll find us there.
00:16:37Otherwise, we still with the rest of you.
00:16:41Welcome back to Le Mans.
00:16:57We are now, we're still 55 laps into the great race.
00:17:01Andre Lotra leads for Audi as our timing screens are just all changing.
00:17:09Great weather here.
00:17:10Huge, huge crowd.
00:17:13Well, we've had...
00:17:13Yeah, we're just having a few timing.
00:17:15Well, we've had a few exciting things happen while we were stopping out.
00:17:18The number 25 car spun and rejoined.
00:17:22Yeah, that car's had a slower first pit stop and now had another spin.
00:17:28John Martin's still at the wheel of that car.
00:17:31We also then have seen a Porsche come into pit lane.
00:17:34We weren't able to see which Porsche it was, but it looked like they had quite a significant puncture.
00:17:39The rear tire really flapping around as they came into pits, but it did look like they were coming in.
00:17:44So that's a good step forward.
00:17:45We will give you more information on that as soon as we have it.
00:17:49Had a few of you asking about some of the blue flashing lights that are on some of the Porsches primarily.
00:17:54That is mainly just for the teams to see the cars coming at night down pit lane.
00:17:59A lot of the cars will have special things like that just to help the teams recognize them.
00:18:03And it's very difficult at night when you just see a set of headlights coming down.
00:18:07Most of the cars I've always driven have had something like that.
00:18:11And I don't think it's anything more special than that, I'm afraid.
00:18:14It's not a beacon for a UFO or anything like that.
00:18:17So sorry to disappoint anyone that thought it might be.
00:18:20Mark Cole throwing things around the room at the moment.
00:18:23You're out there, Mark.
00:18:23I mean, we're only two hours into the race.
00:18:25I was going to say, we're not very far in.
00:18:26Yes.
00:18:27Reset at the front as we watch that great battle going on again in P2.
00:18:30It's still Andre Lothra leading car number one by about 23 seconds over Alamonish in car number two.
00:18:36So the two Audi R18 e-tron Quattro's first and second.
00:18:41Alex Furtz in car number seven for Toyota in third place.
00:18:44Stefan Sarazen in the other Toyota in fourth place.
00:18:47And those two cars are about a minute behind the leading Audis.
00:18:51And a lot of you telling us on Twitter you must have a better view than we do in here in our very glary commentary box
00:18:58that they are baseball caps on the circuit is the debris.
00:19:01I'm not sure if that's real, but a lot of you are telling us that.
00:19:04So it's entirely possible.
00:19:05It's quite breezy out there.
00:19:06It has been all week, hasn't it?
00:19:07It is.
00:19:07And there's a lot of people there just looking over the edge.
00:19:10So that would certainly be something different.
00:19:12It could be hooligans, of course.
00:19:14Well, of course it could be, yeah.
00:19:15Yeah, we don't get soccer hooligans here.
00:19:16Well done, England, by the way, last night.
00:19:183-2 against Sweden.
00:19:19So it's all looking quite good.
00:19:21It's absolutely no interest to Liz, who doesn't follow English football.
00:19:24Oh, really?
00:19:25No, sorry.
00:19:27So a lot of elites, McNish and then Wurtz.
00:19:30That sounds familiar, doesn't it?
00:19:31But Wurtz, of course, is not in a Peugeot.
00:19:33He's in a Toyota this year.
00:19:34And so is Stefan Sarazen.
00:19:36So the four top drivers, five top drivers, look like Deval as well, Jeremy.
00:19:42Five top drivers were all battling it out here last year with Audi and Peugeot.
00:19:46Now it's Audi and Toyota, but only the cars have changed, not the drivers.
00:19:53We're saying about Audi battling it out with two of last year's Peugeot drivers.
00:19:57Yeah, yes, indeed.
00:19:58Yeah, the Peugeot, of course, closed down that operation, you know, just before the start of the season.
00:20:04In fact, the entire team, including all the drivers, they were at Sebring getting ready for another endurance test.
00:20:11So the rug was pulled very much from under their feet.
00:20:13But good to see that just about all of those factory drivers have found a ride somewhere else.
00:20:18And as you say, both Alex Wurtz, he was part of the Toyota program in any case.
00:20:23Stefan Sarazen, he was planning on driving for Peugeot.
00:20:25But now he finds himself also in that Toyota team and doing a nice job, too.
00:20:30Those two cars, they're running one just inside a minute, one just outside a minute behind the leaders.
00:20:36And Stefan Sarazen, there is the number eight car that is making its third pit stop of the day.
00:20:42And once again, an 11-lap stint for car number eight.
00:20:46Potentially the faster of the two Peugeots.
00:20:48That's the one that set the faster time.
00:20:50But we assumed this car would be the hair.
00:20:52But in fact, it has been trailing the number seven car all the time.
00:20:55Jeremy, while we're just looking at the screens, the times now, 3.30s seems to be around the mark at the moment.
00:21:00André Lotterer, on the fifth lap of the race, did run a 3.26, which was, what, three seconds off pole.
00:21:07But I suppose the heat of the afternoon, the times are slowing down a little, aren't they?
00:21:12They'll come back to us in the evening.
00:21:13Also, it was around about six, they were sort of lapping the other traffic.
00:21:15So up until then, they had a pretty clear track out there.
00:21:18And now there's constant traffic all the way around the racetrack.
00:21:22So they're doing till 28s, 29s, 30s, sometimes 33s and 34s, depending on where they catch the traffic.
00:21:29Excellent to see the dome out again now.
00:21:32We did have transmission problems.
00:21:33It's running again.
00:21:37Yeah, no, it's brilliant to see them back out again.
00:21:39They've had a few little glitches here and there.
00:21:41But this is probably going to be Pascarillo's last chance, their last remaining shot,
00:21:46because that other car, number 16 car, still permanently planted in the garage as we speak.
00:21:52We've got a question here from Scott Nicholson on Twitter for Jeremy Shaw to answer for us.
00:21:58He says, hi, can you tell me what the difference between the R18 Ultra and the R18 e-tron is, please?
00:22:04I thought I'd throw that your way, Jeremy.
00:22:05Yeah, we kind of covered that earlier on, I thought.
00:22:08But the e-tron Quattro, that is the one with the hybrid powertrain on that car.
00:22:12And that effectively uses the energy from the braking system on the front wheels.
00:22:17It stores it in a flywheel that is actually in what would be the passenger compartment next to the driver.
00:22:23And then that energy is converted back into electric power and it drives the front wheels.
00:22:29So the Quattro system effectively is four-wheel drives on acceleration out of the corners.
00:22:35But whereas the R18 Ultra, that is just a standard car with a standard transmission.
00:22:42It's a diesel turbo, so it's pretty trick, but it doesn't have the hybrid system.
00:22:46What's kind of interesting in the two hybrid systems, there's one on the Audi and one on the Toyota,
00:22:53the Toyota drives through the rear wheels and the Audi through the front wheels.
00:22:59And the Audi is only allowed to use its electric motors to drive those front wheels when it's going above 120 kilometers.
00:23:10And what's interesting is, if you use a hybrid powertrain that drives through the rear wheels,
00:23:15you can use it at whatever speed you like.
00:23:17Yeah, the reason for this, of course, is because the Audi's got the four-wheel drive.
00:23:20That's exactly why it is.
00:23:22There has to be a panel to the ACO to say they do have four-wheel drive.
00:23:25Essentially, the Ultra and the e-tron are exactly the same car, except for the e-tron is a hybrid car.
00:23:30But other than that, they are the same.
00:23:31And as you've rightly said, Mark, they've had to impose some sort of restriction
00:23:35because the cars are already flying off in the front.
00:23:38So I think that was obviously a good idea.
00:23:40But for all of you at home, thank you, Jeremy,
00:23:43because I know some people are jumping in and out
00:23:45and aren't always understanding everything between it.
00:23:47But that is the noise you hear when we have the onboard footage of the e-tron.
00:23:51And really listen out for that.
00:23:53You can really hear it under braking and those heavy braking phones.
00:23:56Just to finish off the answer to the question,
00:23:57this technology is not as new as you might imagine
00:24:00because in 2008, Peugeot showed us their hybrid 908 at Silverstone
00:24:05at that round of the Le Mans series.
00:24:08It never got to race.
00:24:10And it was actually geared up, ready to race, a new version of it.
00:24:13This year already, it was what they were going to bring here to Le Mans
00:24:16when Peugeot pulled the axe.
00:24:18But again, a different way of delivering the power.
00:24:21That was through batteries.
00:24:21Yes, and this e-tron technology, of course, was first thought about
00:24:26and came into production in February of 2010.
00:24:31So in just 18 months, they've gone from a concept to an actual race car
00:24:35that they were able to pull together.
00:24:37So in 18 months, they had it out running and ready to go.
00:24:39So that's very impressive.
00:24:40It shows about racing, doesn't it?
00:24:42Because they say a road car will take three years from its inception
00:24:45to being put on the road.
00:24:47Yeah, it's very impressive.
00:24:47Look how quickly you can do things in racing.
00:24:49Same in war, isn't it?
00:24:51Things develop in war.
00:24:53Yeah, you know, we talked about the supercapacitor, effectively,
00:24:57on the Toyota where they store the energy
00:25:00and then drive it through the regular powertrain.
00:25:03I was talking to Pascal Vassilon, who's the technical director of Toyota,
00:25:07earlier in the week, and he was telling me that ultimately
00:25:09they want to be able to go to batteries rather than the supercapacitor.
00:25:13But right now, the batteries, the technology there isn't quite as advanced.
00:25:17They're still very, very heavy to be able to handle the power they need
00:25:21to move it for this sort of application.
00:25:23And Peugeot had to build its own battery for this
00:25:25and then drop it into a special compartment in the chassis.
00:25:28Well, on that high note, we're going to go for a quick break.
00:25:31We'll be back after these messages.
00:25:33Stay live on Eurosport.
00:25:34We're being told there's a slippery track down at the second chicane,
00:25:44this Nissan chicane, and a lot of people having problems down there,
00:25:47just as they did on both practice and qualifying nights.
00:25:51Many, many people straight lining those.
00:25:54Now, Liz, interestingly, we had a lot of rubber laid down over the last few days.
00:25:57They all got washed away this morning.
00:25:59We have a green track again.
00:26:00Yes, that's been one of the really tricky factors here
00:26:03and I think why some of the cars have gone off and had some trouble
00:26:05and also why some of the teams have been complaining about their grip levels
00:26:09or saying the car didn't feel quite right.
00:26:11It's probably because of the circuit they've gotten used to
00:26:13and they were all just starting to say the track's really rubbering up now on Thursday night.
00:26:17I think the dry track they were looking forward to having
00:26:20was not the same track that they had on Thursday night.
00:26:23And that's one of the key factors in this kind of racing
00:26:26is you've got different weather to deal with, different things going on.
00:26:29And I'm sure they would rather have a non-rubbered up dry track, though,
00:26:32than a very wet and slippery one like we have in the warm-up.
00:26:35I know I would.
00:26:37So Andre Lotter then continuing to lead from Alan McNish.
00:26:40They're triple stinting those Audis up front,
00:26:42as is Luat Duval in third place.
00:26:44Nick Lapierre, though, has taken over the number seven Toyota.
00:26:48Driver change there.
00:26:48And so there is for the number eight Toyota,
00:26:50Sebastian Buemi coming here from Formula One.
00:26:53He's another Le Mans rookie.
00:26:54And here we are, there's the 16 car.
00:26:55Number 61 car sat primed and ready with Manu Collard behind the wheel.
00:27:00It looks like they've got it back out of the garage.
00:27:01Yeah, but Stuart's not even been on board it yet, has he?
00:27:04No, he hasn't.
00:27:04Let's all just keep our fingers crossed that they've found the problem
00:27:07and they can carry on.
00:27:09Yeah.
00:27:09Just remember, it's the last year's ill-fated ARM1 chassis.
00:27:12And one of the problems they had with the car was engine installation problems
00:27:16and other parts.
00:27:17Perhaps it's carrying bad luck with it.
00:27:20Another car that actually has the same, that has the same,
00:27:23well, they say the same chassis, is the number zero car.
00:27:26But in fact, I think the only similarity they can have of that AMR1 is the tub,
00:27:32which is probably the best part.
00:27:33I understand the tub is very sturdy.
00:27:35Yeah, we understand also there is a third one knocking around somewhere.
00:27:38We don't know where, but...
00:27:39Oh, really?
00:27:40Pit stop for the second-place car.
00:27:44Car number two, Alamek Nish.
00:27:45This is a lap earlier, I think, than we had expected.
00:27:48It was last in lap 22, now in on lap 33,
00:27:53whereas the number one car, the race leader, did not stop.
00:27:56There is the Corvette that had been leading GTE
00:28:00until its stop on this lap.
00:28:03That hands the lead back to Jimmy Bruni in the Ferrari car number 51.
00:28:07Just seeing some cars leaving the pit lane there.
00:28:11It still surprises me how early we had pit stops this year.
00:28:14I feel like a lot of the cars pitted very, very early compared to previous years.
00:28:17Yes, I think actually one of those cars leaving the pits then was the Stracker,
00:28:20wasn't it?
00:28:21The 21 car, which, of course, is completely out of sequence to everyone else.
00:28:24But here we are, very efficient work by the number two team, tyres.
00:28:28We're not seeing a driver change, are we?
00:28:30This is only the third stop for the car, will we?
00:28:33Well, one car that's really impressing me is the number 12 car at the moment.
00:28:37That's a Rebellion Racing car.
00:28:39Nick Heidefeld still aboard that vehicle.
00:28:41He is running in sixth place at the moment, very competitively indeed,
00:28:45not much off the pace of the others.
00:28:46Just consistently, I think.
00:28:49I hope I don't give the curse of the commentator right now.
00:28:52I'll touch wood.
00:28:53But, yeah, definitely pushing along, doing very well indeed.
00:28:57Tom Christensen has just gotten on board the number two car,
00:29:00so they've pitted and changed drivers at around about the two-hour mark.
00:29:04So they're obviously, they must have done a tyre change as well.
00:29:07I didn't say, but I would expect them to do a driver along with tyres.
00:29:10Yeah, about 24 seconds was the gap from first to second from Lotterer to McNish
00:29:16before handing over to Tom Christensen.
00:29:19It was fractions of a second a lap mark that McNish wasn't quite or either wasn't able
00:29:25or was told not to quite match the pace of that car number one.
00:29:29But the two e-tron Quattro Audi R18s still first and second.
00:29:34We've got reports of a slow-moving car.
00:29:37That's car 83.
00:29:39It is one of the GTE Amcars, the Ferrari of Rodriguez.
00:29:43We're not entirely sure.
00:29:44We haven't seen them on our screens yet,
00:29:46but we will absolutely give you some more information about that as soon as we have it.
00:29:49My guess would be it's got a puncture or something similar.
00:29:52Just crawling around.
00:29:53Liz, you were surprised, weren't you, during our qualifying nights
00:29:56that there hadn't been more punctures this year after last year.
00:30:00Well, what's interesting is we seem to have had a very tight battle there
00:30:03with the Corvette and the Aston.
00:30:04We seem to have had so many punctures last year,
00:30:07and this year we've got everybody complaining about not being able to get any grip,
00:30:10even from their soft tyres.
00:30:12So perhaps the compounds have gone the other way.
00:30:14We're having a real battle here with Aston Martin and Corvette.
00:30:17They're just swapping about, going absolutely next to each other,
00:30:21down the malls on straight, dueling their way down into the brake zone.
00:30:24Fantastic race, that is.
00:30:26There is the class leading, I think that's the 51,
00:30:29no, it's not the 51 car, that hasn't been in yet.
00:30:32That's the number 58.
00:30:32That's 59.
00:30:33It's a luxury racing car, that's a 59 car.
00:30:3559.
00:30:36But the race leader, by the way,
00:30:37Alder Lager just brought his car into the pit lane,
00:30:39but that battle going on there between the Corvette and Aston,
00:30:41here it is.
00:30:42You can barely even see the Corvette,
00:30:44they're so close together.
00:30:46They'll be back and forth, back and forth.
00:30:48Right now it's a battle for second and third in the class
00:30:52because Jimmy Bruni still has not pitted
00:30:55in that very fuel-efficient Ferrari.
00:30:57These two have made their second pit stops off the race.
00:31:00So that is the battle for second and third place
00:31:02that we're actually watching at the moment.
00:31:04And that's Tommy Milner and Darren Turner.
00:31:06What a good bunch of guys to be dueling it out out there.
00:31:10Very, very experienced.
00:31:12British V12 against American V8.
00:31:14Isn't that wonderful?
00:31:14Here we are, here's that lead car pit stop.
00:31:16And in fact, an American and a Brit in the car together.
00:31:19So what more of a fight could you ask for?
00:31:23Pass.
00:31:26Great fun.
00:31:27It's a tremendous battle.
00:31:29And so early on.
00:31:30This is what we're going to see for the next 22 hours, I think.
00:31:34I don't think we're going to see the battle ever,
00:31:36ever back down.
00:31:37It will be this way until the last man stands.
00:31:40I think you're right.
00:31:40And the second place car also in LMP2, Tom Kimber-Smith.
00:31:43He's moved up very stealthily in car number 44.
00:31:47For the Starworks Motorsports team.
00:31:49He's brought that car now onto pit lane for a, I would presume, a scheduled pit stop.
00:31:55Also into the pits is Warren Hughes for Murphy Prototypes.
00:31:59Yep.
00:32:00Just about to see these two flying GTE cars come down in front of us.
00:32:05As we watch the number 16 car go past us.
00:32:08Not into pit lane, but indeed staying on the track.
00:32:10So we will keep our fingers crossed for them.
00:32:12And they're reaching traffic.
00:32:13The Aston and the Corvette really bunching up two different classes together.
00:32:18Tom Kimber-Smith just pitting, as you said that, Jeremy.
00:32:24So that's going back to third place at the moment behind Ayari.
00:32:28So it's Olivier Ploudy in a class from Ayari now.
00:32:31Tom, in fact, has tumbled to fourth with that pit stop.
00:32:34And also in is Warren Hughes.
00:32:36So those two continuing the battle they started at the beginning of the race.
00:32:40Just watching the Audi leaving the pit lane now.
00:32:42Of course, only two mechanics are allowed on the car at one time.
00:32:47So it takes a little bit longer to do tire changes than it used to when I was racing here.
00:32:52We used to have four.
00:32:53So it's definitely a slower process, but probably requires even more precision.
00:32:58We're going to have an interview in the pits with Alan McNish.
00:33:01And we're going to go there now for you.
00:33:03Alan McNish.
00:33:05Alan, a really good start of the race.
00:33:07Yeah, I was able to get into third place straight away and caught up on Loic at the pit stops.
00:33:14He had a problem and came back in.
00:33:16And then after that, he was trying to control the gap to Andre, really.
00:33:20It's very slippery and quite windy.
00:33:22You can feel the wind.
00:33:24And I think with all the rain that we had overnight and this morning, the circuit is quite green.
00:33:28So I think it'll get better as the race goes on.
00:33:32Are you able to find a really good setup?
00:33:35Because the track is changing every hour.
00:33:38It's really different.
00:33:39To be honest, the last thing, the car balance didn't feel very good.
00:33:42But I'm not really surprised, considering that we went on to the tyre we did and the point we did.
00:33:49But, yeah, hopefully we'll get better.
00:33:52Thank you very much.
00:33:53Well, we're back with our good colleague, Carlton.
00:34:01Kirby Carlton, you've been having a wander up and down the pits.
00:34:03What's going on out there on this hot Sunday afternoon?
00:34:05Well, it's actually extraordinary and lively, I think you might say.
00:34:08It's all...
00:34:09We've got Ben Holby coming up in just a few moments' time.
00:34:11He developed the delta wing.
00:34:13It's possibly running, possibly, to form, I would have thought, at the moment.
00:34:18They're not pushing it too hard.
00:34:20I think they're playing a long game here.
00:34:21It's been an amazing success PR-wise for Nissan to come here with such an unusual-looking machine.
00:34:28A number of you on Twitter as well as this GT battle rages on on our screen.
00:34:32We're just waiting for our Nissan delta wing designer to join us.
00:34:36Some of you have been asking a little bit more information about the car.
00:34:39Where have you been?
00:34:40It's been full of the press and, indeed, throughout our coverage here on Eurosport,
00:34:44qualifying practice and the rest of it.
00:34:46It's been a major feature.
00:34:48And it looks like we may well have just lost him momentarily here.
00:34:52You never know when you come to Le Mans just how busy you're going to be, to be honest.
00:34:57None busier at the moment than Pescarolo.
00:34:59As far as the racing is concerned, none busier than this as well.
00:35:01And it's Corvette versus Aston Martin.
00:35:04We love this.
00:35:05It was supposed to be toe-to-toe stuff, and it's exactly what we've got here right now.
00:35:09Yeah, we mentioned about the delta wing.
00:35:11It has actually had quite a lot of garage time this afternoon.
00:35:13So we'll find out from Ben Bowlby what that problem has been.
00:35:16It's on track at the moment, but it makes you wonder whether we've got even more problems
00:35:20because he's disappeared.
00:35:22Wall stop, I'm afraid, back down pit row here.
00:35:25It's an extraordinarily busy place side by side.
00:35:28This is what we want, Liz.
00:35:29Oh, this has been fabulous.
00:35:30We've been enjoying this battle for a few laps now.
00:35:33Every time they come down, the mall's on straight.
00:35:35They're just so tight.
00:35:36They've got to make sure that they don't touch and cause themselves an accident.
00:35:40Going to be a change.
00:35:40They keep the racing real.
00:35:41But these two drivers are well up to the challenge of a fight all the way to the finish.
00:35:45Milner takes the spot just for now, but for how much longer?
00:35:48It's take that and back again at you.
00:35:51DT in that car, and he's going to take it to him.
00:35:53Absolutely, a couple of B1s just bedding in there from out here.
00:35:58I just had to back out of that, into that corner as well.
00:36:01Here's the Zero designer.
00:36:03Ben, we can see that the car has stopped for a few minutes now.
00:36:06Can you explain what happened now?
00:36:08Well, it's one of the components that is actually not part of our innovation.
00:36:13And so it's a little air shift actuator that changes gears in the gearbox.
00:36:18So there are a number of them running here today, and we had bad luck, and we had one fail.
00:36:23So we're having to change the component, and we should be back on track.
00:36:28I don't think it's done too much damage to the gearbox itself.
00:36:32What is important to know, also, when we spoke with the driver earlier,
00:36:37they say that it's really, really fun to drive this car.
00:36:40Well, that's one of the exciting things, and why I'm not sure what will happen after Le Mans,
00:36:45because the drivers enjoyed it so much.
00:36:48And it's a very efficient and lightweight car, so it feels good to drive.
00:36:53What do you expect for the next few hours?
00:36:58Well, I hope we get back on track very soon, and I think we're just about to go out again now.
00:37:05We'll just keep racking up the miles on our Michelin tyres,
00:37:08and I hope we'll do a very long set of stints on the tyres.
00:37:14Well, we're coming in just now, because the Delta Wing has just sailed by.
00:37:19Sailing by here and taking the Aston.
00:37:22I can tell you Corvette are having fun out there.
00:37:24So are we, in fact.
00:37:25Milner leads Turner at the top of the GTE Pro Class,
00:37:31and you saw the change live right here.
00:37:33We'll be live throughout this 24 hours.
00:37:35We'll take a break.
00:37:36Back in a few moments' time.
00:37:37Welcome back.
00:37:46The 74 car is extraordinarily busy.
00:37:49He's done a job on Aston Martin,
00:37:51but traffic getting in the way at the moment
00:37:53is just intermingling between the two leaders of the class.
00:37:57We've got Lotra coming up.
00:37:59Quite an easy stint, I would say.
00:38:04Hey, you know, I'm lucky to have a good car.
00:38:06Everything running smooth.
00:38:08And, you know, I'll just find my rhythm
00:38:10and I'm able to push when I want.
00:38:12I'm careful in the traffic.
00:38:14There's some guys that are really surprising out there.
00:38:17So, but the good thing is find your rhythm
00:38:20and keep going like that.
00:38:21The car is running great, so it's nice.
00:38:24How did the tyres react?
00:38:26Because we saw some damage on it.
00:38:28Yeah, we did three stints.
00:38:30It's a rather soft tyre, so it looked a bit nasty when I came in,
00:38:38but it's still really drivable, you know,
00:38:40so we're checking it and no drama.
00:38:43Good. Thank you very much.
00:38:44André Lotra then, winner of this race last year
00:38:49and looking good at the moment.
00:38:51Benoit Trellier on board that number one car,
00:38:54carrying number one, of course, in honour of that famous win.
00:38:57Tom Christensen in the second-place car,
00:38:59having taken it over from Alamut Nish,
00:39:01and Nick Lapierre and Sébastien Bouhemi
00:39:03moving up into third and fourth places.
00:39:06As Luak Duval, has he just made a stop, Liz,
00:39:09or have they passed him?
00:39:11I didn't see him have a stop.
00:39:13We haven't seen it happen, if it has.
00:39:15He's lost two places while we had that interview,
00:39:18and almost fallen back into the clutches of Marco Bonanerbi.
00:39:21No, he has had a stop.
00:39:22I can see it says he's had his fourth stop.
00:39:24We just couldn't see it on the screen.
00:39:25So, yeah, that makes sense.
00:39:27And then I would expect the others to come in very shortly afterwards.
00:39:31Carlton, I think we should explain to people
00:39:32if we are not catching a pit stop,
00:39:34we no longer overlook the pits,
00:39:35as we have done for the last 200 years.
00:39:37Yeah, we do see the pit entry,
00:39:40which is actually a pleasure to see the cars who are flying by
00:39:42and those who are coming in to stop.
00:39:45But we've got so much other stuff to look at here
00:39:46that if we just happen to miss somebody flashing by,
00:39:49we don't get the longer view,
00:39:51which perhaps you're used to,
00:39:52of also seeing who's coming out of the pits
00:39:54and who's going back in.
00:39:56So a slight downside,
00:39:57but we kind of feel like we're more part of the action here as well,
00:40:00which is also terrific,
00:40:02because one thing we couldn't see
00:40:04was actually this dark finish straight,
00:40:06unless you absolutely craned over
00:40:07and interfered with all the controls.
00:40:09So that was quite difficult,
00:40:11because it was a sheer drop down to where the racing action was.
00:40:14We got the pits,
00:40:15but we couldn't see the cars flying by.
00:40:17We could hear them, of course.
00:40:19Incidentally,
00:40:19on the escape from the Toyota Hybrids
00:40:23out of the pit lane,
00:40:24you know that they go on hybrid power
00:40:26and leave in absolute silence.
00:40:29Oh, very odd.
00:40:30Yes, exactly.
00:40:31And so our friends at Radio Le Mans
00:40:33have been sticking the mics down there,
00:40:35and all we're hearing is a slight movement
00:40:37of the odd bit of gravel
00:40:38and an odd catch.
00:40:40It's spooky, spooky stuff.
00:40:43But anyway, yes.
00:40:43It's a bit sad.
00:40:44I really like this.
00:40:45I mean, I'm still getting over
00:40:47missing the sound of the old R8, really.
00:40:50Well, there is talk
00:40:51that some of the electric vehicles,
00:40:53if they do go all the way,
00:40:54that cars are going to have to select
00:40:55and patent a sound
00:40:57specific for their vehicle
00:40:59so that it doesn't interfere with pedestrians.
00:41:01Maybe that will be for racing as well.
00:41:03Yeah, of course.
00:41:03One of the regulations for the hybrid
00:41:05specifies they must be able to travel
00:41:07the length for the pit lane
00:41:10under hybrid power.
00:41:11And, of course, at Le Mans,
00:41:12that's always been tricky
00:41:13because it's uphill
00:41:14and it's taken people a while
00:41:16to get used to that.
00:41:17But this is just not...
00:41:18This is just going on and on, isn't it?
00:41:20Tommy Milner on board
00:41:21that 74 car now.
00:41:23Yes, just almost getting
00:41:24into the back of the Chanduk,
00:41:26back of Chanduk, I should say,
00:41:28who's on board the 22
00:41:30as we speak here.
00:41:33It seemed that they're so busy,
00:41:35concerned with their own racing.
00:41:36They almost got into the back
00:41:38of that P1 car.
00:41:41Here's the 16 car.
00:41:42Come on, fellas.
00:41:43Let's make it work.
00:41:44It's cooled down, obviously.
00:41:46Yeah, no, they've had it
00:41:47in the pits for a while.
00:41:48They sent it back out.
00:41:48He did about two or three laps
00:41:50and I just saw him
00:41:51come back in a minute ago.
00:41:52But it looks like
00:41:53they're just plugging in
00:41:54and hopefully not going
00:41:55to do too much to it.
00:41:57We just hope it'll keep going.
00:41:58We really do.
00:41:59Is it going to be...
00:42:00Is it their fourth engine
00:42:01they've got?
00:42:02Sorry, no.
00:42:03This is the fourth.
00:42:03Yeah, they took this one
00:42:04from the dome.
00:42:05We think they've probably
00:42:07had some insulation problems.
00:42:08Well, those engines don't fail
00:42:10so it may well be
00:42:11that it is something
00:42:12that's actually feeding
00:42:13or cooling the engine
00:42:14that's a problem
00:42:15and if that's the case
00:42:15then it's possibly curtains.
00:42:18We'll see.
00:42:18This looks like it's going
00:42:19to be a 24-hour sprint
00:42:20between these two.
00:42:21It absolutely is going to be
00:42:22and just seeing exactly
00:42:24like what you said,
00:42:25they're racing each other
00:42:26so intently
00:42:26that despite being professionals
00:42:28it's hard for them
00:42:29to always keep an eye
00:42:30on their mirrors
00:42:30while they're focusing
00:42:32on each other.
00:42:33Yeah, one thing is for certain
00:42:34that the light stack
00:42:35that's on board the Audis here
00:42:37is so spectacular.
00:42:39You certainly know
00:42:40they're coming.
00:42:40It's like an avalanche
00:42:41of light heading your way.
00:42:45Absolutely no doubt
00:42:48what's coming.
00:42:49Toyota, their lights
00:42:50look an awful lot more benign.
00:42:52I think the leading P1s
00:42:54certainly should copy
00:42:56Audi's lead there
00:42:57and just light it up
00:42:59for goodness sake.
00:42:59I was going to say
00:43:00Blackpool Illuminations
00:43:01but those in the Asia-Pacific
00:43:03won't understand
00:43:04a word I'm saying.
00:43:05And incidentally
00:43:06it is white lights
00:43:07for the LMP1 cars
00:43:08and LMP2 cars
00:43:09and yellow lights
00:43:10for the GT cars
00:43:11so there is a way
00:43:12for these GT drivers
00:43:13to know that they are
00:43:14about to be passed
00:43:15rather than just being
00:43:16approached by a fellow competitor.
00:43:18And I know there was
00:43:19a lot of discussion
00:43:19about whether the new Audi lights
00:43:21would be blinding
00:43:23the other drivers
00:43:23but most of the drivers
00:43:25I've spoken to
00:43:25and I would agree
00:43:26with this myself
00:43:27have said that it's great
00:43:28to know
00:43:28that it is an Audi.
00:43:29And I would have said
00:43:31absolutely brilliant
00:43:32because quite often
00:43:33we get our teams
00:43:34to tell us
00:43:35when the leaders
00:43:35were coming through.
00:43:36Now the other thing
00:43:36to tell you all
00:43:37to look out for
00:43:38especially as it gets darker
00:43:39is the side lights
00:43:40on these cars.
00:43:41One, two, three
00:43:42lights in a row
00:43:43in the colours
00:43:43of the classes
00:43:44red for prototype
00:43:45LMP1
00:43:46blue for P2
00:43:47green for GT Pro
00:43:49and orange for GTM
00:43:51and those lights
00:43:51if there's one light on
00:43:52that's the class leader
00:43:53two lights on
00:43:54they're second
00:43:54three lights on
00:43:55they're running in third place
00:43:57and if there's no lights
00:43:57on at all that moment
00:43:58they're out of the podium
00:43:59so that's just something
00:44:00you can look out for
00:44:01once it gets dark.
00:44:02It's one of those
00:44:03wonderful things
00:44:04that have come along
00:44:04to help the fans.
00:44:05They also backlight
00:44:06the numbers incidentally
00:44:07and that stack
00:44:08of that trio of lights
00:44:10that Mark was talking about
00:44:11sit directly
00:44:12at the side
00:44:13of the number
00:44:14so you see
00:44:14the number illuminated
00:44:15you know who it is
00:44:16and if there's one
00:44:17light on next door
00:44:19to the number
00:44:19in that vertical light stack
00:44:21then you know as well
00:44:21look at the Aston Martin here
00:44:23he's having a look
00:44:23he's got a proper daft
00:44:24is he going to make it count?
00:44:26Come on then fellas!
00:44:27Oh come on Turner!
00:44:30Well spotted Carlton.
00:44:31I think he's going to do it!
00:44:33He is!
00:44:34He's done it!
00:44:35And Tommy's been
00:44:35very clever there
00:44:36he's known that he
00:44:37rightly so
00:44:38had the pass there
00:44:40and didn't do anything
00:44:40stupid that would
00:44:41detriment either of their
00:44:4224 hours
00:44:43this is what's so great
00:44:45and watching some real
00:44:46top professional drivers
00:44:47racing each other
00:44:48is they can do it
00:44:49and do it cleanly
00:44:50this is what we want to see
00:44:51for 24 hours
00:44:52Yeah well we've got
00:44:53one of the prototypes
00:44:55coming up
00:44:55just announcing the fact
00:44:56that they're here
00:44:57so it'll be battle
00:44:58suspended just for a moment
00:45:00while the 13 Lotus
00:45:01batch car goes
00:45:02oh and I thought
00:45:03the Corvette was going to
00:45:04try and get a draft
00:45:04off the P car there
00:45:05he thought about it
00:45:07and then backed out of it
00:45:08He just thought
00:45:09maybe I'll just capitalise
00:45:10on this traffic
00:45:11coming through
00:45:12maybe Darren
00:45:13won't quite notice
00:45:14I'm just going to
00:45:15sneak up the side
00:45:16but Darren had it
00:45:17well under control
00:45:17he's now actually
00:45:18pulling away a bit
00:45:19in places
00:45:20this is what Darren
00:45:22will be doing now
00:45:22say I've gotten a run
00:45:23on him
00:45:23I'm going to push
00:45:24as hard as I can
00:45:25What have we got
00:45:26Mark on the fuel range
00:45:27difference between
00:45:28these two vehicles
00:45:28on the fuel range
00:45:30they've stopped
00:45:30at the same time
00:45:32more or less
00:45:32haven't they
00:45:32they've both done
00:45:33two stops in the race
00:45:34so far
00:45:35they're probably
00:45:35looking for a third
00:45:36quite soon
00:45:36we are now coming up
00:45:37to three and a half
00:45:38hours into the race
00:45:39I think the first
00:45:40initial stop the Corvette
00:45:41had an extra lap
00:45:42but our last one
00:45:42they were pretty equal
00:45:43so it'll be interesting
00:45:45to see what happens
00:45:45with this one
00:45:46if maybe Corvette's
00:45:48going to try and
00:45:48stretch it an extra lap
00:45:49or not take that risk
00:45:51but they're driving
00:45:52very hard
00:45:52so I would expect
00:45:53that they wouldn't
00:45:54exactly be conserving
00:45:55any fuel right now
00:45:56yeah if you've got a couple
00:45:57of laps where you can
00:45:58actually get a tow though
00:45:59that helps
00:45:59and you might
00:46:00actually be able
00:46:01to play that
00:46:01longer fuel game
00:46:02let's go downstairs
00:46:04Sebastian
00:46:05Nick Heidfeld
00:46:05you just stepped out
00:46:06of the car
00:46:07freshly redressed
00:46:08how was it
00:46:09the first stint
00:46:10that was good fun
00:46:11it was the first time
00:46:12for me
00:46:12to do the start stint
00:46:13in the beginning
00:46:15when there were
00:46:16some drops
00:46:16I took it really
00:46:17easy
00:46:18was a bit careful
00:46:19and after that
00:46:20it went quite okay
00:46:21until I had a spin
00:46:23luckily nothing happened
00:46:25kept a good lead
00:46:26to the private cars
00:46:28and it's looking good
00:46:29now with Lille
00:46:29in the car
00:46:30how satisfied were you
00:46:31with your lap times
00:46:32sorry
00:46:33with your lap times
00:46:34how satisfied were you
00:46:35I'm very satisfied
00:46:36I mean
00:46:37we tried to be the best
00:46:38privateer team
00:46:39I was quite a bit quicker
00:46:40than all the other guys
00:46:42but it's important
00:46:44to be quick
00:46:45but the race is 24 hours
00:46:46fingers crossed
00:46:48that we keep going
00:46:49until the end
00:46:49thank you
00:46:50best petrol
00:46:50taking a spin himself
00:46:52you've got to ride
00:46:53your luck here
00:46:53apart from everything else
00:46:54don't forget
00:46:55it's not just about
00:46:56the mechanicals
00:46:57it's not just about
00:46:57driver quality
00:46:58you have to have
00:46:59good fortune as well
00:47:00I think the 51 car
00:47:02possibly got rid of
00:47:03all its bad luck
00:47:04before this 24 hour race
00:47:06finally got underway
00:47:08completely rebuilt
00:47:08of course
00:47:09we'll take a break
00:47:10we'll be back
00:47:10with the action live
00:47:11here on Eurosport
00:47:12after this
00:47:13welcome back
00:47:23welcome back
00:47:23and a warm welcome
00:47:24to our friends
00:47:25at Eurosport World
00:47:26Asia Pacific
00:47:27and throughout the globe
00:47:28you're live
00:47:29at the Le Mans
00:47:3024 hours
00:47:31so this has been
00:47:32raging on lap
00:47:33after lap
00:47:34here
00:47:34we've got
00:47:35what just over
00:47:3721 hours
00:47:3837 minutes to go
00:47:39and it looks like
00:47:40a sprint race
00:47:41does it not
00:47:41it's the leaders
00:47:43of the GT Pro
00:47:45class here
00:47:46and it has been
00:47:47toe to toe
00:47:48throughout
00:47:49Aston Martin
00:47:50Corvette
00:47:50that's what it was
00:47:51supposed to be like
00:47:52that's exactly
00:47:53what we've got here
00:47:53it's party time
00:47:55yeah if you've just
00:47:56tuned in
00:47:56you probably thought
00:47:57oh this isn't Le Mans
00:47:58we've just tuned in
00:47:59to a 20 minute sprint race
00:48:01no in fact
00:48:01you've not
00:48:02jumped into that
00:48:03this is the 24 hours
00:48:04we are just barely
00:48:06over two hours
00:48:07into this very
00:48:08very long race
00:48:09and we have an
00:48:10absolute cracking
00:48:11battle between
00:48:11these two
00:48:12Oak Racing car
00:48:13flashing like crazy
00:48:14to make sure
00:48:15Darren Turner's seen him
00:48:16this is what makes
00:48:17sports car racing
00:48:18so exciting
00:48:19we have a huge battle
00:48:20between two cars
00:48:21in one class
00:48:21but the other classes
00:48:22are trying to get around
00:48:23to do their own battle
00:48:24absolutely
00:48:25when those quicker cars
00:48:26come through
00:48:26like that Oak Racing car
00:48:28he just tries to get
00:48:29into the hole
00:48:31in the air
00:48:32that is being punched
00:48:32by that pink vehicle here
00:48:34and tries to make up ground
00:48:35but the Corvette's
00:48:36got the legs
00:48:37and he does the same thing here
00:48:38just to try and pull away
00:48:39from the Aston
00:48:40it's clever stuff
00:48:41it just goes to show
00:48:42how difficult it is
00:48:44to actually get around
00:48:44these very torquey
00:48:45big engine GT cars
00:48:47the LMP cars
00:48:48actually struggle
00:48:49near the end
00:48:50of the long straights
00:48:51because most of these
00:48:52GTs keep pulling
00:48:53whereas the LMP2
00:48:54seems to reach
00:48:55a bit of a plateau
00:48:56strange isn't it
00:48:57strange to see them
00:48:58closing all of a sudden
00:48:59I remember it being difficult
00:48:59and a very very brief
00:49:02mistake there
00:49:02ever so slightly
00:49:03as Milner
00:49:06just followed the line
00:49:07of the P2 car
00:49:08and got himself
00:49:09slightly out of shape
00:49:10there in the S's
00:49:11he's got to watch out
00:49:12for that sort of thing
00:49:13yeah elementary mistake
00:49:15perhaps
00:49:1621 hours
00:49:1636 minutes remaining
00:49:18of this
00:49:18this could go on
00:49:19forever Mark
00:49:20yeah and our first
00:49:20penalty of the day
00:49:22the number 40 car
00:49:23the race performance
00:49:24of Ray Kajad
00:49:25is being given
00:49:26a 30 second stop go
00:49:27penalty for speeding
00:49:28in the pit lane
00:49:29we don't know what speed
00:49:30it was
00:49:30but presumably
00:49:31if it's a 30 second
00:49:32stop and go
00:49:33it's a bit more
00:49:35than naughty
00:49:35well that's
00:49:36that's sort of
00:49:37quite often
00:49:38a standard pit lane
00:49:39infraction
00:49:39if it's
00:49:40if it's well over
00:49:41but what I think
00:49:42has probably happened
00:49:43there
00:49:43is one of the drivers
00:49:45has forgotten
00:49:45to push the pit limiter
00:49:46button
00:49:47now all these cars
00:49:47will have
00:49:48a pit limiter
00:49:49button that you push
00:49:50and it keeps them
00:49:50at that set speed
00:49:51of 60 k's per hour
00:49:52you can see the lights
00:49:53flashing on the car
00:49:54that normally indicates
00:49:55that it's on
00:49:56we're going back again
00:49:57it's down the
00:49:58Mulsanne straight
00:49:59look at this
00:49:59has a look down
00:50:00on the inside here
00:50:01oh it's a long
00:50:03old drag race
00:50:04this he's got
00:50:04the draft as easy
00:50:06is he going to make
00:50:06it spin the back
00:50:07of the Corvette
00:50:08and they're blocking
00:50:09the faster vehicles
00:50:10behind them
00:50:10they've got their own
00:50:11race to deal with here
00:50:12and he makes it stick
00:50:13now let's check him
00:50:14out on the exit here
00:50:15fabulous
00:50:15so tight
00:50:16we've got the
00:50:17delta wing coming up
00:50:18we've got prototypes
00:50:19another gt car
00:50:20we've got every
00:50:21class of racing
00:50:22all together at once
00:50:23trying to own the road
00:50:25side by side
00:50:26down the Mulsanne straight
00:50:27it's just crazy
00:50:29and here is a car
00:50:29we saw ages ago
00:50:31trying to get its way in
00:50:32with that puncture
00:50:34that's done a lot
00:50:35of body work damage
00:50:35this is one of the
00:50:36biggest troubles
00:50:37you find with a puncture
00:50:38is once you've got it
00:50:40you must go slowly
00:50:41no matter how tempting
00:50:42it is to get back
00:50:43faster
00:50:43because the faster you go
00:50:45the more body work
00:50:45damage you do
00:50:46yeah it delaminates
00:50:47and just starts a huge
00:50:48whipping action
00:50:49and of course
00:50:50the mesh that holds
00:50:52the tyre together
00:50:53is a very very strong
00:50:55thing so it whips the car
00:50:57and does not disintegrate
00:50:58it's the car
00:50:59that actually takes the hit
00:51:00not the tyre
00:51:01quite often you'll find
00:51:02that a team that had
00:51:04only a puncture
00:51:05then ended up actually
00:51:06destroying so much
00:51:07of the car that they've
00:51:08spent hours in the garage
00:51:09which could have been
00:51:10avoided
00:51:10look at jimmy bruni
00:51:12just waiting
00:51:12waiting isn't he
00:51:13for any chance
00:51:14of those two
00:51:15to make a mistake
00:51:16if they tangle
00:51:16he straight by
00:51:17looks like we're
00:51:19going to go to the pits
00:51:20for an interview
00:51:20in a minute here
00:51:21while we just continue
00:51:22to watch this
00:51:23frantic battle
00:51:24in gte pro
00:51:26what a great race this
00:51:28will be if we can
00:51:28carry this on
00:51:29yeah that camera's
00:51:30not going to last
00:51:30is it down there
00:51:31on the gerbs here
00:51:32we always lose a couple
00:51:34along the way
00:51:35I think Sebastian
00:51:37presumably Bourdais
00:51:38let's have a look
00:51:38David Brabham
00:51:39did you enjoy your stint
00:51:40it looked like a nice
00:51:41battle you had at the
00:51:42beginning with Seb Bourdais
00:51:43and Bertrand Baguette
00:51:44well yeah I wouldn't say
00:51:45it was a massive battle
00:51:46but yeah we're all
00:51:48quite similar pace
00:51:49I probably had a little
00:51:50bit more on them
00:51:51and it was just a case
00:51:52of getting into a rhythm
00:51:53we were struggling a little
00:51:54bit with the tyre
00:51:55temperature with the car
00:51:56so once that started
00:51:58to come in
00:51:59I started to pull away
00:52:00and it was just getting
00:52:01into a rhythm
00:52:02into the race
00:52:03to keep out of trouble
00:52:04which we did
00:52:05and JRM car is running
00:52:07fine
00:52:08there's no issues
00:52:09we just you know
00:52:11build up some database
00:52:12we tried a different
00:52:13set of tyres
00:52:14so we'll see what
00:52:15feedback it gets
00:52:16so that'll help us
00:52:17for the rest of the race
00:52:18you said the tyre
00:52:20pressure or the tyre
00:52:21temperature was a problem
00:52:22all week long here
00:52:23how's it going
00:52:24with a bit warmer
00:52:25temperatures now
00:52:25well towards the end
00:52:27of my last stint
00:52:29I started to pick up
00:52:30a lot more grip
00:52:31but before that
00:52:33it was a bit of a struggle
00:52:34a lot of that
00:52:35is just our lack
00:52:36of knowledge of the car
00:52:37and lack of testing
00:52:38and development
00:52:39so but you know
00:52:40at the moment
00:52:41I think as the race
00:52:42goes on
00:52:42it'll come more to us
00:52:44and the pace will pick up
00:52:46as we go along
00:52:46thank you
00:52:47lack of testing
00:52:48lack of development
00:52:49perhaps
00:52:50it was of course
00:52:50Sébastien Tiffere
00:52:51who was doing the interview
00:52:53with Dave Brabber
00:52:54yeah I just had some
00:52:55call down from
00:52:56Porsche Curves
00:52:57Jordan Tresson
00:52:59had a spin
00:53:00at the Porsche Curves
00:53:01in that
00:53:01Playstation
00:53:02and he survived it
00:53:04oh
00:53:04oh that's a really
00:53:06lucky one
00:53:07but Jordan
00:53:07of course
00:53:08taking on his first
00:53:09Le Mans 24 Hours
00:53:11the second generation
00:53:12of GT Academy
00:53:13as a winner
00:53:15and I understand
00:53:16I think he's had
00:53:16a couple of spins
00:53:17in practice
00:53:18if I recall
00:53:18I think this has been
00:53:19a pretty big shock
00:53:21to the system for him
00:53:22check this out
00:53:23as a car stack
00:53:24oh my goodness
00:53:25all classes
00:53:25mixed together
00:53:26it's a Le Mans
00:53:28and let's just hope
00:53:29they keep safe here
00:53:30because everyone's
00:53:31struggling for position
00:53:31and this guy's racing
00:53:33here don't forget
00:53:33the twin central lights
00:53:35of the Aston Martin
00:53:36blazing away
00:53:37getting the M's
00:53:38out of the way
00:53:38the pros are coming through
00:53:39oh
00:53:39almost Kovac
00:53:40Kovac
00:53:41this is something
00:53:41you can only see
00:53:43at Le Mans
00:53:43that was the pros
00:53:44and the M's
00:53:45mixing it up
00:53:45you see the performance
00:53:46difference here
00:53:47from this year's car
00:53:48slightly wider
00:53:48at the back end
00:53:49but this is
00:53:50magnificent stuff
00:53:51and it's raging on
00:53:52yeah
00:53:53Jaime Mello though
00:53:54he's got caught
00:53:55behind that
00:53:55and he's lost
00:53:56some ground
00:53:56on those two
00:53:57he's got to get past
00:53:57the two
00:53:58Larborough Corvettes
00:53:59ahead of him as well
00:54:00is that
00:54:00is that Danny Watson
00:54:02in the Strakhan
00:54:03no it's not
00:54:03it's one of the P2 cars
00:54:04a yellow helmet
00:54:05isn't it
00:54:05yeah flashing like crazy
00:54:07hoping that one of those
00:54:08GT cars is going to
00:54:09see him coming through
00:54:10it's the worst feeling
00:54:12when you pile into
00:54:13a GT battle
00:54:13and you think
00:54:14they aren't looking at me
00:54:16hello
00:54:16hello I'm down here
00:54:17please don't run me
00:54:18very busy
00:54:19right here's your Toyota
00:54:20just listen to this
00:54:22disappear like a ghost
00:54:23in the night
00:54:24when it leaves
00:54:25its pit box here
00:54:27there'll be no sound
00:54:28we can practically
00:54:29stand here
00:54:29they go away
00:54:30on electric power
00:54:31and it just disappears
00:54:33plain and simple
00:54:34finally he managed
00:54:35to get the breakthrough
00:54:36here
00:54:37the 48 car
00:54:38found some gap
00:54:40and he'll be pleased
00:54:41about that
00:54:41and then he can leave
00:54:42these two
00:54:42to have their own
00:54:44private battle
00:54:44at the end of the garden
00:54:45if you like
00:54:46and here we go
00:54:46they're at it again
00:54:48anyone going to drift
00:54:49this time by
00:54:50well it's the choice
00:54:52of the vet right now
00:54:53has a look
00:54:54not quite close enough
00:54:56to make it stick
00:54:56fabulous
00:54:57look at how strong
00:54:58the pull is on these cars
00:54:59even behind the Murphy
00:55:00prototypes car
00:55:01that's a fast car there
00:55:02but you can see how
00:55:03the GTE cars
00:55:04with those big grunty
00:55:05engines just keep
00:55:07pulling down the straight
00:55:08it's amazing
00:55:08yeah it's under
00:55:10acceleration and braking
00:55:11that the P2s get
00:55:12their own back
00:55:13but as you say
00:55:14fairly equal
00:55:15our power outputs
00:55:16Jaime Mello
00:55:17then just working
00:55:17his way through
00:55:18the two Labra cars
00:55:19behind
00:55:19he wants to catch up
00:55:20with this battle again
00:55:21it's just broken up
00:55:22for a moment
00:55:22but be sure
00:55:23this is just going
00:55:24to run and run
00:55:25oh it is
00:55:26this is going to go
00:55:27oh a bit wide
00:55:28Darren went off
00:55:28oh no
00:55:29Darren
00:55:30slowed out
00:55:31and is he going to get
00:55:32mugged here as well
00:55:33well he will have
00:55:34lost a lot of power
00:55:35there
00:55:35Mello goes past him
00:55:36yeah
00:55:37he's lost position
00:55:38oh dear oh dear
00:55:39he's going to battle back
00:55:40he's going to hold on
00:55:40for this
00:55:41all the way down
00:55:42they come
00:55:42let's pick it up
00:55:43once again
00:55:43down into the dip
00:55:44he's got it
00:55:45he's got it
00:55:46he's not
00:55:46he doesn't want to seed it
00:55:48oh he has to
00:55:49first to third
00:55:50in one corner
00:55:51dear oh dear
00:55:52Darren what were you doing
00:55:53he fell off his bike
00:55:54the other day
00:55:54didn't he
00:55:55oh I don't know
00:55:56did he
00:55:56oh there's plenty of
00:55:57those kind of
00:55:58those kind of track
00:55:59he's around as well
00:56:00through the Porsche
00:56:01of course that's
00:56:02he's catching him
00:56:03fast though
00:56:04Darren is going to be
00:56:04angry now with that
00:56:05it's very rare
00:56:06we see Darren Turner
00:56:07make a mistake
00:56:08to be honest
00:56:09he's one of the best
00:56:09best Aston Martin
00:56:11drivers I've ever seen
00:56:12one of the best
00:56:13drivers full stop
00:56:14it's very rare for him
00:56:15to make a mistake
00:56:16just be
00:56:16too late for our
00:56:18knowledge didn't he
00:56:18that was what happened
00:56:19too late
00:56:20we're going to have
00:56:20to take a break
00:56:21a real shame
00:56:22to cut away from this
00:56:23we're going to fit in
00:56:23the ads there
00:56:24we'll be back with you
00:56:25in just a few moments
00:56:26time
00:56:26oh you're back
00:56:37at just the right time
00:56:38and Aston have had to
00:56:39take that spot
00:56:40back again here
00:56:40oh Ferrari fighting back
00:56:42they want the position
00:56:43though and they're
00:56:43going to make it stick
00:56:44oh that was fantastic
00:56:46stuff
00:56:46we just cannot believe
00:56:48this
00:56:48thanks to those of you
00:56:49who joined us on
00:56:49Twitter by the way
00:56:50some of you just
00:56:51equally as exciting
00:56:52out there
00:56:53Ben Gray says
00:56:54this should be renamed
00:56:55along on 24 minutes
00:56:56a race every 24 minutes
00:56:58and that seems to be
00:56:58what we've got here
00:56:59this GT race
00:57:00absolutely fantastic
00:57:01and a mistake
00:57:02a similar styling
00:57:03that's how Darren
00:57:04just caught that
00:57:05little bit up again
00:57:06but of course he himself
00:57:07had thrown it away
00:57:07on the previous lap
00:57:09just looking at P2
00:57:10for a second mile
00:57:11watching out
00:57:11Tom Kimber-Smith
00:57:12has just run a 42-4
00:57:14which is the fastest
00:57:15P2 time we've had
00:57:16in this race
00:57:17and they're up to
00:57:17second place
00:57:18in second place
00:57:19so he's closing
00:57:20on Olivier Platt now
00:57:21gird your loins
00:57:23as the prototypes
00:57:24come through here
00:57:26and this battle
00:57:27continues
00:57:27this is for second
00:57:28place now
00:57:29and it's kind of
00:57:29let the Corvette
00:57:30off the hook
00:57:31but Ferrari
00:57:32holding on to this
00:57:34it's Bruni
00:57:35that's on board
00:57:36the GT Pro
00:57:37class here
00:57:37Darren Turner
00:57:38is in the Aston
00:57:39and these faster
00:57:40cars just keep
00:57:41coming through
00:57:42and possibly
00:57:43just offering up
00:57:44a little bit of drag
00:57:44right now
00:57:45too much space
00:57:46between to make
00:57:47any difference
00:57:47but the lines
00:57:48that they're choosing
00:57:49coming in here
00:57:50almost identical
00:57:51slight variations
00:57:52you might say
00:57:53but it allows
00:57:54a bit of closing
00:57:54here
00:57:55the Aston seems
00:57:55to be able to
00:57:56get a little bit
00:57:56of advantage
00:57:57on braking
00:57:57but the Ferrari
00:57:58on the Escape
00:57:59just has it
00:58:00yeah I know
00:58:00it definitely does
00:58:01you can really see
00:58:02and to put in
00:58:03the times
00:58:03that Darren did
00:58:04in qualifying
00:58:04he was all over
00:58:06the track
00:58:06he was really
00:58:07pushing hard
00:58:08to put those
00:58:08times in
00:58:09I think what
00:58:10we're seeing
00:58:10is this car
00:58:11is really
00:58:11operating
00:58:12because of the
00:58:12level of drivers
00:58:13that are in it
00:58:14it's a good car
00:58:15but definitely
00:58:15the Ferrari's
00:58:16got the pole
00:58:17and I question
00:58:18if they're just
00:58:18that little bit
00:58:19more nimble
00:58:19in their design
00:58:20yeah but remember
00:58:21the Aston
00:58:21has got a weight
00:58:22brake of 25 kilos
00:58:23it's that much
00:58:24lighter because
00:58:24they still
00:58:25I'm proving
00:58:26it's coming in
00:58:26anyway
00:58:26so all academic
00:58:27now let's watch
00:58:28this we'll see
00:58:29somebody push
00:58:30all the way
00:58:31look at Darren
00:58:31flats out
00:58:32up to the line
00:58:33on the brakes
00:58:34that's the way
00:58:35to get into
00:58:36pit lane
00:58:36right there
00:58:37this marshal
00:58:39very impressed
00:58:40as well
00:58:40a little bit
00:58:41of a nod
00:58:42that's a huge
00:58:43acknowledgement
00:58:43exactly what we
00:58:44talked about
00:58:45you can gain
00:58:46or lose so much
00:58:47time in a pit
00:58:48stop here
00:58:48the pit entry
00:58:49lane is so
00:58:49long
00:58:50we can't actually
00:58:51see where they
00:58:52come into the
00:58:53lane
00:58:53so it's very long
00:58:55and Darren's
00:58:55driven that to
00:58:56perfection
00:58:56he's gone
00:58:57round the edge
00:58:57of it
00:58:57forwarded up to
00:58:59the line
00:58:59losing no time
00:59:00we've got the
00:59:01radar track
00:59:01right in front
00:59:02of us
00:59:02is he getting
00:59:03out or is he
00:59:03staying in
00:59:04I think he's
00:59:04getting out
00:59:05they will be
00:59:05changing tyres
00:59:06that's why he
00:59:07was able to
00:59:08light them up
00:59:09as he came in
00:59:09no bother about
00:59:10flat spotting
00:59:11those he absolutely
00:59:12stood on the
00:59:12anchors
00:59:13they probably
00:59:13won't change
00:59:14him now
00:59:14and just prove
00:59:15he's completely
00:59:15wrong
00:59:16there was no
00:59:17puffer spoke
00:59:17he kept it
00:59:18nice and calm
00:59:18but it underscored
00:59:20what we were
00:59:20saying about the
00:59:21braking capabilities
00:59:21of this car
00:59:22Mark
00:59:22absolutely fantastic
00:59:23yeah it is
00:59:24it's superb
00:59:25and as Liz told us
00:59:26during qualifying
00:59:26you can make
00:59:27two seconds
00:59:28a lap difference
00:59:29by having a
00:59:30very fast
00:59:31in lap
00:59:31or even more
00:59:33you can easily
00:59:34at Le Mans
00:59:34lose a lot of
00:59:35seconds
00:59:35you can lose
00:59:3610 or 15
00:59:37by ambling
00:59:38into pit lane
00:59:39and not getting
00:59:39on it straight
00:59:40out
00:59:40and what's the
00:59:41point then
00:59:42of all your
00:59:42team working
00:59:43so hard
00:59:43to do a
00:59:43fast pit stop
00:59:44if you're
00:59:44going to
00:59:45blow it
00:59:45all on the
00:59:45way in
00:59:46so it's
00:59:46very important
00:59:47to just
00:59:47hammer it
00:59:48right up
00:59:48to the
00:59:48boards
00:59:49like we
00:59:49saw
00:59:49Darren
00:59:49Turner
00:59:50to perfection
00:59:51well we
00:59:52didn't know
00:59:52whether that
00:59:53picture in
00:59:54picture was
00:59:54them leaving
00:59:55with the same
00:59:56tyres to be
00:59:56honest
00:59:57we didn't
00:59:57see any
00:59:57puffs of
00:59:58smoke
00:59:58but the
