00:00:00Racing on the pit road, they're HPD second in the LMP2 cars, and they were four seconds behind the leading team, Stracker Racing, as they crossed the start line, which means right up there, Chuck Stewart Hall, as they came into the pit lane, that's still an enormously close battle for LMP2.
00:00:18Yeah, those two cars are going at it very hard indeed. Marina Frankinson just climbing aboard the Highcroft Racing Acura, just replacing David Bradham, and he'll now go head-to-head with Danny Watts.
00:00:30Yeah, I think Danny pulled away fair bit, hadn't he, and I was kind of surprised that David wasn't able to keep up with him during those early stages.
00:00:39I mean, the Stracker Car's already made its second pit, so here is the Highcroft Racing Acura from the second stop.
00:00:47There's going to be quite a margin between those two when they come back out.
00:00:50I think that margin he saw as he came into the pit lane, Martin, was as a result of the Stracker Car having stopped at one lap early, and David's case leading in GT1.
00:01:00Well, incidentally, was the number 64 of Thomas Holtz, the Maytec Competition car.
00:01:06As you saw, the BMW R car coming back down the road, still no call for their sister car, the 78, which is in the GT2 class,
00:01:14which is currently being led by the 64 Corvette, that's all up for Molly Gavin, from Johnny O'Connell.
00:01:20In fact, so they must have done the driver change while I was looking down at the screen, yeah, that's the amount of Johnny O'Connell here in 63.
00:01:25And Jamie Maylow, best of the non-yellow cars, that'll be the Ferrari in third place.
00:01:29That's how he came up from the back of the pack.
00:01:31I don't know whether the other guys talked about it before, but that car had qualified on the pole position on Wednesday.
00:01:37It was easy to come to the Ferrari, a couple were 82, but after Thursday's qualifying session, in which it didn't set the quick time,
00:01:44it was thrown to the back of the pack.
00:01:46They failed scrutiny at the end of the third day qualifying session.
00:01:50The rear wing was slightly too high, it actually made a change of rear body wear from that car between the two seconds ironically,
00:01:58and the team is therefore convinced that it was perfectly legal when it actually set the quick time,
00:02:02but rules is rules, and so the car had to start at the back, so those guys have worked an extremely good job.
00:02:07Jamie Maylow has to get that car from the back of the pack, up to third place in the car in the class.
00:02:12You can hear the battle in the prototype one class LLU1, one of the colors outings,
00:02:18that's the 14 car of Christoph Boucher at the moment, right ahead of Frank Mayer in that third road of Aston Martin,
00:02:28the one that is a little bit of gold color, so that's the Signature Plus car.
00:02:33And Mayer just losing out a little bit, and there's the Maytec for the Mark VDS Ford, rather,
00:02:38driving away from where it was buried in the gravel,
00:02:41so no matter what the damage to the back looks, he's still got a tranny in the thing,
00:02:45if he was a rally driver, it'd be select first gear, let's go,
00:02:48but from the S's all the way round to the pit lane, Stuart,
00:02:52it's a very long way to be driving a car that has had a big impact.
00:02:56However, it does tell us one thing, and that is that the throttle was not jammed on,
00:03:00and the wheels weren't spinning because Bazz didn't deserve a competency set in the car,
00:03:03so that and Marshall would have driven it.
00:03:05Yeah, no, it looks like Bazz is okay, the car, the car, not so,
00:03:10but I'm sure he'll try and get that back in the pit, the Mark VDS Ford will try and fix it,
00:03:14but it looks like it's going to be a bit of a long night for them.
00:03:18It'll be a few long nights, the BMW R car straight into the Schnitzer garage,
00:03:22and looking now not only for the cause of the puncture,
00:03:26but also for the consequent damage within the wheel arch,
00:03:30because the one thing that almost inevitably happens when you have a puncture on any car
00:03:34is that there is a chance of further damage,
00:03:36and then when you're driving it fast, as they are,
00:03:39even when they look like they're almost stationary,
00:03:41back to the pits, you can have any amount of extra damage.
00:03:45That's one of the two Felbermeyer Porsches in the GT2 class.
00:03:50For many years, of course, GT2 has been the domain of Porsche,
00:03:54but Ferrari coming very strong in the last few of the F430 recent competition,
00:03:58here are the defending champions, here,
00:04:00and as Jeremy said, from back of the grip up to third place,
00:04:04as we often say during qualifying,
00:04:05it actually doesn't amount to a hill of beans in this 24-hour world
00:04:09that they're proving exactly that.
00:04:11They are just, anything can happen, but we will.
00:04:15We can say, sorry, we feel like that's Peugeot 231,
00:04:18or 231, or 241, in terms of car numbers at the front,
00:04:22but Fontana, who moved,
00:04:24and presumably he took the lead as a result of the fact he went one lap to Peugeot,
00:04:28what is that, trying to get back, he's got a long way to go.
00:04:31He's got a long way to go, but it does seem all to be a long bit,
00:04:33so clearly he's got a right rear puncture, well, one half.
00:04:37He's got a number of wheels, oh dear, okay,
00:04:40he's got broken suspension on both sides.
00:04:44It's not a puncture, no, in fact, he hasn't,
00:04:46he's got a broken suspension on the left,
00:04:48but is it puncture on the right?
00:04:49No, that was that sort of rear bit of bodywork flapping, you can see.
00:04:52So it will be quite a long way.
00:04:54If he gets it to the pits, then, full marks,
00:04:56whatever the Mark BDS team do,
00:04:58do not instantly retire it on him.
00:05:02That's right.
00:05:03Well, he's got a lot of seconds on a walk, doesn't he,
00:05:05apart from anything else.
00:05:06He's got an awful long way to go.
00:05:07It's just come now on to the Multan straight, so...
00:05:10Well, let's be honest,
00:05:11in the GT1 class, like any other class,
00:05:13you want to get it back out on the track and lapping fast,
00:05:16because there's no telling what will happen in the race
00:05:19and what will happen with the weather particularly.
00:05:22Well, you're going to back out in the 78-car part,
00:05:25a tyre change,
00:05:26and a driver change in that car,
00:05:28so no state in that car, in fact,
00:05:30so he's just been passed by the Peugeot.
00:05:32Yes, so to get back with a little race recap,
00:05:35Peugeot dominant right from the very start.
00:05:38Early safety car period conspired particularly
00:05:41to break up any chance of Audi catching the Peugeots
00:05:45and the lead Audi of Anna McNish,
00:05:47still in fifth position and a minute and a half adrift.
00:05:51Yeah, having said that,
00:05:52that the gap between the first and the fifth-place cars
00:05:55of the Peugeot is that the first,
00:05:58so the donker there in the, uh,
00:06:01the, uh, VDS, Mark VDS pit there.
00:06:04I just want to call it van der Straten all the time.
00:06:06Yes, exactly.
00:06:06In the Mark VDS pit.
00:06:08Yeah, and the donker, he's an interesting character.
00:06:10He's won the European GT4 championship for a couple of years,
00:06:13racing now also in GT3
00:06:15with the Mark VDS Ford Mustang.
00:06:18It's a fascinating motor car,
00:06:20the first couple of rounds
00:06:22when he actually raced at Silverstone,
00:06:24but he's got high hopes for that car,
00:06:26brought by the automatic and character.
00:06:28But Eric, he's also a GT1 this year.
00:06:30He's also a former professional golfer,
00:06:32a professional motorcycle champion in Belgium.
00:06:36He's quite a character.
00:06:38He told me the other day he just sold
00:06:40an original AC Cobra race car he had,
00:06:45so he's not on the poor side.
00:06:48No, he's not on the ball, no.
00:06:49And it's a great 1980s world.
00:06:53And speaking of which,
00:06:55UB40 playing here on the stage
00:06:57just beside the circuit tonight.
00:06:59I wonder who's going on.
00:07:00It was the Quo,
00:07:00the Quo would win over the noise
00:07:02of the UB40.
00:07:04UB40 one hand over the cutout.
00:07:06I wonder if one in ten
00:07:07we'll go and see them.
00:07:09Yeah, that's not the UB40 part of this.
00:07:10It's official now with your line on that.
00:07:12So, our overall racing
00:07:14is one, two, three, four,
00:07:16Proverge over Audi 567.
00:07:19Then the two motor accidents
00:07:21with 809,
00:07:23rather than 7009,
00:07:24those are two golf cars.
00:07:25Those two motor accidents,
00:07:27they're running,
00:07:28yeah,
00:07:28as I can say,
00:07:29you know,
00:07:30one or two,
00:07:30two.
00:07:31Darren Turner's been next
00:07:33from dropping an older tail
00:07:34except for what we've done
00:07:35a few seconds between those cars.
00:07:37The most for this race
00:07:38has been less than that.
00:07:39They've just stretched out a little bit
00:07:40over the last few laps.
00:07:42They were both,
00:07:43among the cars,
00:07:44a deep motor pit top
00:07:45during that extensive,
00:07:47extended,
00:07:47first safety car period.
00:07:49Now, we're just saying
00:07:50you're officially notified
00:07:51on the timing screens.
00:07:52Bearing in mind
00:07:52that the car crash there
00:07:5415 minutes ago
00:07:55is now driving slowly
00:07:57around the track.
00:07:58The yellow flag's been put
00:07:59out at the S's,
00:08:00presumably meaning
00:08:01that they are repairing
00:08:02the barriers
00:08:03and they want drivers
00:08:04to take a bit of care there.
00:08:06Still here at 25
00:08:07lower coupe,
00:08:08this is the Ray Ballard
00:08:10racing car
00:08:10with this HPD engine.
00:08:12Currently third in LMP2,
00:08:14second in LMP2 now,
00:08:15despite having had
00:08:17an ECU change
00:08:19after leaving
00:08:20the dummy grid
00:08:21and a problem as well
00:08:23that have caused
00:08:23an early pit stop
00:08:24under the safety car.
00:08:25So they have had problems
00:08:27throwing them
00:08:27left, right and centre.
00:08:28But again,
00:08:29like the two
00:08:30Acura chassis,
00:08:31the HPD engine
00:08:32in that car
00:08:33has just transformed
00:08:35the RML2.
00:08:36Last year they could barely
00:08:38get a racing lap down
00:08:39almost anywhere
00:08:40when they had
00:08:41troublesome engine package
00:08:42in the car.
00:08:43But now,
00:08:43the HPD engine
00:08:44is not only quick
00:08:45but seems to be giving
00:08:46them very little cause
00:08:47for concern.
00:08:48And Stuart,
00:08:48when you come to this track,
00:08:50what you want
00:08:51is a car that may not be
00:08:52necessarily ultimately
00:08:53the fastest
00:08:54that is reliable
00:08:55and that is still
00:08:57in the car coming in
00:08:59and now it's in the garage.
00:09:00What happened?
00:09:01Dirk had a sudden
00:09:02tire puncture.
00:09:04He could keep the car
00:09:06on the track
00:09:06once he hit the kerbs
00:09:08without the tire.
00:09:10And so apparently
00:09:12we have to check
00:09:13all the parts,
00:09:15the underbody
00:09:16and all the parts
00:09:17if anything is damaged.
00:09:18It should take a few minutes
00:09:20and then you'll be
00:09:21able to go out again.
00:09:22What about the other car?
00:09:23Everything is running
00:09:24like glass?
00:09:26We have lost a sensor
00:09:27which causes
00:09:28some traction problems
00:09:31but other than that
00:09:32it's fine.
00:09:32Thank you very much.
00:09:36So Stuart,
00:09:37as we were saying,
00:09:37hearing Dr. Meritizer
00:09:38saying,
00:09:39other than the prop
00:09:40with the tires,
00:09:41they are okay
00:09:41with BMWs
00:09:42but as we were saying,
00:09:43what you really want here
00:09:44is comfortable
00:09:45for 24 hours.
00:09:46You do,
00:09:47I'm not sure
00:09:47I'm not sure
00:09:48Perjuan Audi
00:09:49would see it that way
00:09:49but especially
00:09:50in the LMP2 class
00:09:51where reliability
00:09:52is a massive factor
00:09:53and it has been
00:09:54over the years.
00:09:56As we've seen now,
00:09:57Merino-Francissi
00:09:58is actually coming up
00:09:58on the back
00:09:59of the Louvier flat
00:10:00and this is for position.
00:10:01It is,
00:10:02but how?
00:10:03I'm sorry,
00:10:04how was one in front
00:10:06the exact same way
00:10:06with one safety car?
00:10:10When?
00:10:11No,
00:10:11when the safety car was out?
00:10:13No, no, no,
00:10:13those two cars
00:10:15were directly behind
00:10:17one of the safety car
00:10:18joined that
00:10:18safety car.
00:10:19They were in the same queue
00:10:20and they ran
00:10:21a minute apart
00:10:23when they made
00:10:24the pit stops
00:10:24and now
00:10:25they're two and a half
00:10:26minutes apart
00:10:26on the game
00:10:27in which case
00:10:28some teams
00:10:29have changed tyres
00:10:30and some teams
00:10:31have.
00:10:31That would be
00:10:32the most straightforward
00:10:33and most obvious answer.
00:10:34They have changed drivers
00:10:36in the LMP2
00:10:37which would suggest
00:10:39a longer change
00:10:40for tyres as well.
00:10:41Quick commercial wreck
00:10:42as we take a pause.
00:10:43The battle
00:10:43continues in LMP2.
00:10:45back live
00:10:49to Le Bon
00:10:49where we are
00:10:50watching
00:10:50the sole remaining
00:10:52AF Corsa
00:10:53GT2 class
00:10:54Ferrari
00:10:55which is
00:10:56currently lying
00:10:58in the monitor
00:10:59that we can't read.
00:11:01It's all right,
00:11:02Jeremy,
00:11:02you can talk.
00:11:03It doesn't work.
00:11:04Showing the two figures
00:11:05doesn't work
00:11:05on television
00:11:06or radio
00:11:07either.
00:11:08Second in
00:11:08GT2 class
00:11:09we're saying.
00:11:10It's been.
00:11:11Tony Villander.
00:11:12OK.
00:11:12After the 64
00:11:13Corvette came
00:11:14onto pit road.
00:11:15And Greenlander
00:11:16has not yet
00:11:16named his
00:11:17the second pit stop.
00:11:18Jimmy Brini
00:11:19has just taken over
00:11:21from Ginello
00:11:22in Carnivator 2.
00:11:23That was the
00:11:24class leader
00:11:24after the Corvette
00:11:26came onto pit road.
00:11:27So,
00:11:28Glennie has just
00:11:28gone out of the pits
00:11:29having taken over
00:11:31from Ginello
00:11:31in Carnivator 2.
00:11:33And Peter
00:11:33under Sipro
00:11:33yes,
00:11:35to have a
00:11:35bring over
00:11:36Gavin
00:11:36who has just
00:11:37handed over
00:11:37the lead car
00:11:38in the GT2
00:11:39category.
00:11:41We're going to
00:11:41hear that
00:11:41Oli's taking
00:11:42up the early
00:11:42strength of this
00:11:43race.
00:11:44Corvette's
00:11:45certainly running
00:11:45absolutely
00:11:46beautifully
00:11:46all week long
00:11:48and I think
00:11:49we've got
00:11:49a show
00:11:49that's strictly
00:11:50going to
00:11:50straight line
00:11:50to people
00:11:51who are not
00:11:51massively
00:11:52than the Porsche
00:11:53and Ferrari
00:11:54either.
00:11:55It's been very
00:11:55close to the GT2
00:11:57back to all
00:11:57the three players
00:11:58as qualified.
00:11:59The back of
00:11:59it has also
00:12:00been speeded up
00:12:01by that
00:12:01car here.
00:12:03And also
00:12:03the fact
00:12:03that the Corvette
00:12:04is on
00:12:04discipline
00:12:05that everybody
00:12:05really
00:12:06is looking at
00:12:06the strategies
00:12:07in GT2
00:12:08but this
00:12:09contest is
00:12:09going to go
00:12:10throughout the
00:12:11evening,
00:12:11throughout the
00:12:12night and
00:12:12hopefully
00:12:13throughout
00:12:13tomorrow
00:12:13as well
00:12:14until 3 o'clock
00:12:15over on the
00:12:16Sunday afternoon.
00:12:17there is the
00:12:1864 car
00:12:19right behind
00:12:19the
00:12:20inter-man
00:12:20performance
00:12:21machine.
00:12:22The 77
00:12:23for the
00:12:24Porsche
00:12:24of
00:12:25that has
00:12:26the 78
00:12:26for
00:12:27scenarios.
00:12:28The 77
00:12:29Porsche in front
00:12:30of the road
00:12:32but behind

00:13:59the trouble
00:14:00who doesn't get hit by a P-car or other GT cars
00:14:04so it's
00:14:05you know it's 50% luck this race is you know and the rest of it's down to the team
00:14:10and the car the drivers so yeah we'll see but a long long way
00:14:14to go
00:14:14so what about your schedule now
00:14:17my schedule now is to see my family and be free for the
00:14:21little bit
00:14:22so
00:14:22I'll go back and try and eat something rest and then be back here in about three hours
00:14:29time to get back in
00:14:30see you later
00:14:31thanks
00:14:31while Ollie was chapped to us Tony Vielander who was the GT2 leader came in and has had service
00:14:38you saw the Mark VDS racing Ford has finally made it back hooray good job by
00:14:43Beth Leinders and in from fourth place is car number four Nico Lapierre stays on board
00:14:49and he goes back in and he still leads in two
00:14:56Petro Lamy in three and this is the battle for third and second
00:15:01Mark Genet 13 seconds off the lead Petro Lamy 11.6 seconds off the lead there is one and a half seconds between them and Stuart teammates and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
00:15:12last year's winners in third place that's not going to go down very well then was there really is it
00:15:18I wouldn't say if it's going down very well then but at this stage of the race last year the winners I think were me
00:15:25I think that car's going to be the patient car
00:15:28I think it's going to be three of them
00:15:30it's going to be three
00:15:30I'm going to be
00:15:32it's a hammer and tongs
00:15:33I should think it's going to be
00:15:33if the likes of Jay
00:15:35Verz and Al and Al Davidson
00:15:37we'll probably sit back and just sit there and wait for Kai to evolve who does
00:15:43Alex Verz of course was the youngest driver ever to win the 24 hours of Le Mans when he won his first race
00:15:49when he was barely half the age he's not extremely accurate but he was very young indeed in a Yerkes Porsche open car
00:15:58and now back with a chance perhaps to win a second race for a French manufacturer
00:16:04there can't be too many drivers that have been able to do that
00:16:07but I think in person for the last iteration of the winning driver shared cars in two consecutive years
00:16:12with a delivery in the track there
00:16:13no competition
00:16:14yellows
00:16:15yet right up behind one of the Ford GTs with our third place car
00:16:20and that's the sort of thing that swings annoyingly against you when you catch a car
00:16:24right in the position you can't believe anything about him
00:16:26but that's just giving the car in front an extra to the second Stuart
00:16:30so now you know ten laps of hard work creeping up behind him is all undone in one little ballpark moment
00:16:36whether the driver in front can do anything about it or not
00:16:39it is it is massively frustrating
00:16:40that's it
00:16:41that's it
00:16:42that's it
00:16:42that's it
00:16:43that's it
00:16:43that's it
00:16:43that's it
00:16:43that's it
00:16:44that's it
00:16:45anybody can turn a quick lap every now and again if it is fairly talented
00:16:49but it takes it and with a little talented
00:16:51just doing those quick lap lap lap lap lap in an average traffic
00:16:5424 hours
00:16:55and people like the Mish
00:16:58you know they are the real masters
00:17:00we see again
00:17:00the photo getting held up by the RMO level
00:17:03and again that's very frustrating for them
00:17:04but that's part and parcel of a lot of people hours
00:17:08yeah
00:17:08it's a long sequence through the Porsche Ressels Jeremy isn't it
00:17:11and it is a single groomed racetrack
00:17:13you know you best move around where the other car's going but there's not any time to exploit it unless they are very slow
00:17:19yeah
00:17:20and you want to do it because it is really guaranteeing that the car in front of you that the track pass has actually seen you go into the mirror
00:17:26and it will be beautiful
00:17:28it's really cool with one side of the other one there so
00:17:30so it exists
00:17:31at this stage in the rain particularly
00:17:32and it has been impatient
00:17:34then
00:17:36and it has been history
00:17:38and thenη‹
00:17:40is
00:17:40I hope for the schedule ofosis
00:17:40the terrific stop on the road
00:17:42for that team
00:17:43throughout
00:17:44and then he can do it
00:17:44second
00:17:45appa
00:17:46has it
00:17:47just that
00:17:47a couple of quick bites the air
00:17:49bad
00:17:50bad pain
00:17:50which took us
00:17:5020 minutes
00:17:51and 29 seconds
00:17:52to get those
00:17:53to do
00:17:53to complete that lap
00:17:54and
00:17:55to get that
00:17:56now of course
00:17:56very surprising
00:17:57I don't think if it puts it back into the guards and it might be the SS engine, hopefully they'll go to work on that car and hopefully they'll get it back out again.
00:18:06Yes, I mean, the fact that he was able to drive it back in without too many other bits falling off suggests actually that no matter how ugly it looked, it was, well, possibly more than a polish out time, but you would think that they'd be able to put rear suspension on it and roll it out. After all, we're not even at tea time yet.
00:18:24And as we see, the Inter-Performance car, and of course you're on to good luck for Sheffield service.
00:18:30Also note that Jakarta Fisichella has taken over a car number 95, the Air Corsa, the Soul Remain, and of course the Ferrari, he was in the lead of the class when he came in for that pit stop.
00:18:42And now, with everybody having made the second pit stop of the day in GT2, it is reverted to the fact that Olivier Beretta, having the lead to Oliver Darwin,
00:18:53the car number 64, now leads the GT2 class 5, about 5 seconds, one Johnny O'Connell, and in 3rd place, right, uh,
00:19:03given a copy of the tail, Patrick Fisichella in the best place of the unfortunate, in 1st place now.
00:19:09Indeed, well, that's at the pit lane, so, uh, there you can see the two core reps around the 1st and 2nd,
00:19:15you can see that, uh, Stuart's picking something interesting up on the timing screens.
00:19:19And Mark Jenaid has just said the quickest second sector, uh, of the race so far, so, which obviously is really not, uh, lying down on it to the other two, by the way.
00:19:27Uh, he's, uh, he's, he's getting out of it now, and, uh, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he's gonna have a go, Pedro.
00:19:33And, uh, not yet to be held up first by the fool, the name of Mark Jenaid, although, uh, has obviously given him a little bit of clear air,
00:19:41and the chance to run at Pedro Larmy, so, again, not necessarily closing, because Larmy hits traffic,
00:19:47because Jenaid has picked up a pace even further, as Fassler-Lotter, a Trouillier car that changes hands.
00:19:53Now, this car currently at 7th, Marcel Fassler, what was the incumbent?
00:19:57AndrΓ© Lottere on the timing and scoring, the Tarsus is getting in, so, who are we to argue?
00:20:03Pick stops also for the number 13, Rebellion Racing, along with the jads, double of 8th, the Frank Maillard-driven, uh,
00:20:10Lula Aston Martin is on pit road as well for 13th place, and certainly if you're trying to find timing and scoring,
00:20:16uh, we're not easily here, because we do actually have the serving of our, uh, timing squad,
00:20:21but, it is on LeMond.org, LeMond.org, LeMond.org, it should be freely and, uh, functioning, although,
00:20:30they have had a few fall-overs due to LeMond leading up to the race.
00:20:34It's working now, guys, a little bit of a high, uh, that must be best here enough, of course.
00:20:38It's working now, uh, at the ALS.org, we're going to find the LeMond.org,
00:20:44when he said that, their baseline was a 330 to 328 for the lead two car.
00:20:47Number two is Marceau, we can get a little bit more tacky, but here's the first step of the game, we are full clear, here's the Margeau, you've just said, we've got a very quick time at 321.2 point, and he's flying, we heard smash it, but they're saying they were driving flat out earlier on, we're hoping they are, 321 is pretty remarkable, well, when he said that, Ben Slam was a 330 to 328 for the lead two cars, now Jermaine is down to the sort of pace that they were running at the end of qualifying last,
00:21:16on Thursday night, long after they're done their qualifying, and the first problem for a Peugeot, is that our race, that's our leader, that's Larby then, yes it is, he's about to lose second place to Jermaine, softly, softly, catchy monkey, and punchy tire, he also helped me, and so Jermaine up to second, in the number one car, and down to third, on track, goes Peugeot on the number three car,
00:21:42now Montani has left the pit lane, so Peugeot can't grab first back, but, they say Margeau can't grab first back, but a man who sounds like Holland, who won't go next early, he picks up the first major front line puncher, and this has got to cost him a lot of time, he's got to go a lot of way around, but on his front, he's going awfully quickly to it more, he is, you don't want that time to start at 1118, because that's going to start ruining body work, and causing lots of damage, and we'll see when it lets go down the, uh, down the old side.
00:22:10So, it's all something else, that's going on, that was going down, and today, I'm telling you, yes, he made the fast into the first chicane.
00:22:17So, today, ah-ha, fastest per second mile of all in the race, on this lap, and his second centre, his current line, he's also moved up to second, he is on a rim, because I've been talking about, this isn't horrified, he's actually been horrified, he's actually been horrified, he's got a bit more, he's got a bit more.
00:22:33I thought at the beginning actually that the laws had changed and we had the possibility that the model is now frisky at 10lb point a point sprint, but apparently not.
00:22:42However, yeah, I mean he's doing well over three figures there in that car, and then the model is smoking furiously.
00:22:49Yes, and it is a puncture, it was going awfully quickly, so I maybe suggested that it might not be puncture, it might be suspension fairly and it hasn't felt too bumpy.
00:22:58But we saw quite a lot of debris in the car and I wonder if he's thrown off the carcass and all he's got is the rim and the shoulder.
00:23:06In which case actually, if he thinks he's seen the main part of the car and the tyre thrown off, or he can feel it, then actually he can pick up the piece of it.
00:23:17Because the damage is done by the bits of tyre flailing around like a whip on the chain.
00:23:23So, if it's gone, then there's nothing to do much damage.
00:23:27Conversely, the less tyre there is, then you're looking for two to the other.
00:23:32Dr. Wolfgang Ulrich on the left also there discussing what is up for the bridge.
00:23:36Oh yeah, it's down at the front, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:23:39There's smiling a bit now more, isn't it?
00:23:41There's only three more to go.
00:23:43There's two new stages.
00:23:47There is the Orica car having made its third piece of the board.
00:23:53It's in a discernment from mid, yes, it is on board here.
00:23:56With another centre car element, it's there, and it's dark.
00:23:59The Orica greater for the middle side has made one more piece of that hazard.
00:24:04Can you see that making even the slightest entrance as our second place car,
00:24:10the Bargene, comes on the pit road.
00:24:12Nish has got the target in his sights for the first time in nearly two hours.
00:24:16Stuart has just kind of given everything he can and tried to unsettle him and make a position up.
00:24:22Even if he has to go to the pits now, he wants to get in front of that Orica Virgil.
00:24:26I know, he smells blood, there's traffic ahead, so he might be able to do that to his advantage.
00:24:30Nish has got the air slightly more eggs, but a lot more experience, I need to be in power than this.
00:24:35So can he pounce and move that Audi with the problem with the Pedro Alami's encountering now?
00:24:40He could actually move that Audi into the top three before it comes into the pits.
00:24:43Now, I don't know if that's Sam Hancock or Agent Fernandez in the 007 Aston.
00:24:49It's the sixth car as well in front of him, Sayana Yari.
00:24:53So, is it? It's 009. Yes, couldn't have had quite the four foot behind.
00:24:57Sam Hancock it is.
00:25:00So, that will be very hard to catch.
00:25:02I mean, the Corvettes are the devil's own job to get by for the purely cars,
00:25:06because they're so darn quick as in comes three.
00:25:08So, Jermaine, marked as our race leader as he stopped to pit in car number one.
00:25:14Three in second place as he came into the pit lane with a puncture.
00:25:18Stefan Sarazan, because of his tyre stop, is now down to fur.
00:25:22He's having taken over for a four-month second in the two-car.
00:25:25So, Jermaine out, we know that.
00:25:28And who do we see getting in?
00:25:30It did tell Erwin and Dayton to the course it was.
00:25:33And he's left already.
00:25:35Pedro Alami also steps out of the man who started this race from pole.
00:25:39Here comes Lowdy's as well.
00:25:41And Nish comes in and didn't manage to get the place off the four-car before he did so.
00:25:47The Peugeot going into the garage suggests it was a suspension problem and not a puncture.
00:25:53So, some major repairs are going to have to go on in that case to get that car back out of the circuit.
00:25:57Yeah, at the very least, have a good look around that suspension
00:26:00because he was going awfully fast and there was rubber playing around in there in any case.
00:26:04So, here's a routine stop though before Alam is out of the car.
00:26:08Yes, and in gets Tom Christensen.
00:26:11So, McNish, Capello and Christensen.
00:26:14You've got to think that's the most experienced driver line-up, or certainly here, but ever?
00:26:20In terms of Le Mans starts, wins and race results,
00:26:24there can't be many more experienced teams ever to have started.
00:26:27And if they will, Audi had them.
00:26:29Security trying to keep the cameras out.
00:26:31Like it makes a difference.
00:26:33When are Audi going to learn a sleeping paper, you can see you're changing the front suspension.
00:26:37Yes, the man with his back to us, Stuart's gesticulating, has got front wishbone in his hands.
00:26:42That will be a wholesale change.
00:26:44And generally, it punches one thing.
00:26:46Car with a suspension failure, suddenly ding-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling-a-ling,
00:26:50all sorts of alarm bells rings.
00:26:51Stuart, you're a driver.
00:26:53Let's see your march today going by Pedro Alarm.
00:26:56First of all, you think it's a puncture.
00:26:58Okay, that's one thing.
00:26:59When your engineer gets on the radio, that dish didn't get a puncture,
00:27:03and he said Christensen, can follow this out.
00:27:06Or, Duvath.
00:27:07Yes, I think Roman Duvath has actually gone here with Tom Christensen in the pits.
00:27:12No, they came in in that way.
00:27:14Oh, they came in by mistake, sorry.
00:27:16They did, yes.
00:27:17The yellow car was behind coming down pit road.
00:27:19But to go back to your previous comment about the Peugeot,
00:27:22that's very unlike that car that's done Le Mans four times now.
00:27:26To have a front suspension failure like that,
00:27:29it does suggest that Pedro Alarm may have had contact with the solar car
00:27:33and weakened the part which then led to its failure.
00:27:36But we can all expect that.
00:27:38I'm sure we're not going to hear the real reason from Peugeot,
00:27:40so we just have to dip it on that matter.
00:27:43Again, to get back to some point, I was going to ask you,
00:27:46as a driver, you go by and you think your teammate's got a puncture,
00:27:50that's one thing.
00:27:51If you then get on the radio, your engineers say to you,
00:27:54okay, what's the time, what's the suspension?
00:27:57Suddenly you're going, oh, okay,
00:28:01maybe a little bit more aware of noises and vibrations perhaps.
00:28:05Yeah, I think you might be.
00:28:07I think if you're in any other car,
00:28:09if you're in a pleasure or not, you might be glad.
00:28:11But it seems like I haven't seen much before happening on a pleasure,
00:28:15so it suggests that Pedro may have had contact with another car,
00:28:18because a front wishbone failure that looks like holding a wishbone up
00:28:22is a very, very rare occurrence in one of these cars
00:28:26to happen straight without any other factor in it.
00:28:30Yeah, dreadful news for Sebastian Bordet.
00:28:32Of course, the local hero from Le Bono lives downtown
00:28:35just a couple of miles away here from the racetrack,
00:28:38which is building a new house down there he is.
00:28:40And it'll be just crashing for him.
00:28:43He's doing a really fabulous job to qualify
00:28:46to get this car in the pole position to two laps quicker than anybody else.
00:28:50You can see that frustration.
00:28:52Yes, absolutely.
00:28:54And that is Bordet and not Pedro Mami.
00:28:57And in fact, he is now taking the helmet off,
00:28:59so he was ready to get in.
00:29:01Bearing in mind that 4.10 he had just stopped.
00:29:05And Martin A came in on that lap as well.
00:29:07That was clearly the lap for a scheduled stop.
00:29:09He was ready to go.
00:29:11And you cannot believe his luck.
00:29:14Well, we're going to get down and talk to Olivier Canel,
00:29:17the boss of Pedro's spot,
00:29:19but I'm sure he's going to have an awful lot to say to us,
00:29:22they think we really need to hear from the people of Sebastian Bordet,
00:29:25the hunched body shows everything.
00:29:27It does look like they're going to withdraw that car.
00:29:30That may well be, as he did all suitable,
00:29:33that may well be what he has just been told.
00:29:36Yes, I'm afraid that has all the parts of a shell
00:29:39just going off in that garage.
00:29:41Well, a slightly bigger problem with the west back then.
00:29:45Looks like it's something to do with the tug or something like that.
00:29:47We lost the right front suspension and the car is finished.
00:30:04Can't repair it.
00:30:05What's the reason for the failure?
00:30:10An accident or?
00:30:12Don't know?
00:30:14I'm not sure what's happened on the track.
00:30:18Well, he says he doesn't know.
00:30:22Is it going to be a problem for the other cars?
00:30:25No, no, not as far as we're concerned.
00:30:28OK.
00:30:29So, tell you what, you need a job reading body language, Stuart.
00:30:33All that was absolutely on the money.
00:30:35They had pulled the car instantly.
00:30:37Yeah, as soon as he put the nose back on the car,
00:30:39and worked on it, it was pretty respectable too, wasn't it?
00:30:42Yeah, it was fatherless, Stuart.
00:30:44And what a disaster it was.
00:30:45I mean, I can't remember,
00:30:47the person having any kind of a suspension system before.
00:30:50They've run an awful lot of tests, you know,
00:30:52miles on this car since its last race.
00:30:55You know, since the last race here,
00:30:57they've done three races with the development of this car.
00:31:01They've been over 10,000 miles, I think, in testing.
00:31:04It's a huge amount of development work has gone to that car.
00:31:09And they have a suspension failure, apparently,
00:31:11without the outside force.
00:31:13Very safe.
00:31:15I mean, you have to feel for Sebastian Bordet.
00:31:18The guy goes and puts it on the pole with a stunning lap.
00:31:20Last year, the car had a collision in the pit lane.
00:31:23I think may have had problems the year before,
00:31:25and this year, that's happened.
00:31:27I mean, the guy's clearly quick enough to win this race,
00:31:29and everything keeps on going wrong for him.
00:31:32So, but on the other side of the foot,
00:31:35Alan McNish in the Audi,
00:31:38well, and Christensen and Capello,
00:31:41you know, they're creeping up there.
00:31:43The same old team,
00:31:44slowly creeping up the leaderboard.
00:31:46Who knows what more,
00:31:48what more poppy Peugeot could encounter,
00:31:50but I really, really expect those guys
00:31:52to come into play as this race is way gone.
00:31:54Yeah, you just can't, you know,
00:31:56get to that bad luck on for a day.
00:31:58One year ago here,
00:31:59even with, what, an hour ago in the race,
00:32:02his car with,
00:32:04Montagne and Sousa,
00:32:05they found an opportunity to win this race.
00:32:08Unfortunately, there was a late safety car period,
00:32:11and they held up behind the safety car,
00:32:13and after that,
00:32:14they were half of that behind,
00:32:15and there went,
00:32:16then the chance they had,
00:32:17to win the race,
00:32:18and they won a different strategy last year
00:32:20to the number one car,
00:32:21and they didn't have a legitimate chance
00:32:23to win that race,
00:32:24before it's taken over,
00:32:26and put it on the time,
00:32:27and it's all over.
00:32:28And an utter heartbreak there.
00:32:30I mean, Bordet, I think,
00:32:31particularly for the Felt,
00:32:32that really hearted me.
00:32:33You've got to feel a really heartbreak.
00:32:35I feel sorry for Paginot as well.
00:32:37What a great break for the young Frenchman,
00:32:39and for Peugeot as well.
00:32:41You know,
00:32:42really very strong team.
00:32:44Marker of doom has already been out,
00:32:46but I'm afraid I really did not expect
00:32:48to have to rise off any Peugeots.
00:32:50And at the time now,
00:32:51half past five in the afternoon,
00:32:53the race is two and a half hours on,
00:32:55and we've lost one of our four Peugeots that.
00:32:57You could have never imagined
00:32:59putting money on that happening.
00:33:01No, you couldn't.
00:33:02It's certainly forming into a race of attrition,
00:33:06and a lot of cars having a few problems,
00:33:08and what time are we going to have?
00:33:10So we haven't had any big clashes between cars.
00:33:14We haven't had foul water and rain,
00:33:16and somebody said the Peugeot is going to have
00:33:18after two and a half hours.
00:33:19That would be your only chance.
00:33:20It couldn't possibly happen from anything else,
00:33:22but it has.
00:33:23We'll be back in just a second,
00:33:25here at Le Mans.
00:33:30Welcome back live to Le Mans.
00:33:31We're on board Audi number nine,
00:33:33the car that currently lies in fourth place
00:33:36after the retirement of car number three,
00:33:39one of our Quartet,
00:33:41the Peugeot 908 HDIs,
00:33:44a car that at the time was sitting pretty in second position.
00:33:48Turns out a front suspension failure,
00:33:50not a puncture was what slowed it on the
00:33:52whole side straight,
00:33:53four or five minutes ago,
00:33:55into the garage.
00:33:56Very brief examination.
00:33:58Then Stuart Hall,
00:33:59the depth charge detonated under the drivers.
00:34:02No chance to repair it,
00:34:03and that means only one thing,
00:34:04the suspension had pulled out of the tub,
00:34:06and there was no way to repair it,
00:34:08because it was just a broken suspension armour,
00:34:10you can replace it.
00:34:12You can,
00:34:13and that's a crushing road for that team,
00:34:15but they do have two cars left in it,
00:34:17and they do have the R2 controller,
00:34:18so it's not my way at this very few moments,
00:34:20but it has given Audi a bit of a loop there.
00:34:24They've got two cars at the moment,
00:34:26very close to each other,
00:34:28and they're hunting down Nicky-Pick-Bathier
00:34:30in the orange of Peugeot,
00:34:31so the race is shaping up very nicely indeed,
00:34:34after that safety car,
00:34:35putting everything out of balance.
00:34:36Now we did,
00:34:37I'm just passing my mind back to a couple of days ago,
00:34:40but we did see a piece in the ground,
00:34:42that's rude,
00:34:43where one of the Peugeot went flying through a little bit.
00:34:46Do you remember which one that was?
00:34:47Or was that a car wasn't it?
00:34:49Except for one of the day,
00:34:50yeah.
00:34:51Yes, but,
00:34:52it was a good,
00:34:53it was a good,
00:34:54and you know,
00:34:55that's the sort of thing that,
00:34:57you don't get the chance to,
00:34:58to crack test the suspension properly,
00:35:00when you're at the road,
00:35:01so, I mean,
00:35:02you'll have a good look at that,
00:35:03maybe,
00:35:04just maybe,
00:35:05because I don't think,
00:35:06you know,
00:35:07Peter Alani,
00:35:08he's about as honest as they're coming,
00:35:09if we need anything,
00:35:10he wouldn't have said,
00:35:11I'm sure.
00:35:12Well this is the battle for 4th place there,
00:35:14but I'm not too much under pressure from Tom Christensen,
00:35:16as we cut away from it.
00:35:18And that's a really interesting thing,
00:35:20Jeremy,
00:35:21because of course,
00:35:22what the people have done yesterday,
00:35:23is take off all the suspension from Qualified,
00:35:26and with the resources of Peugeot and Audi,
00:35:28I would have imagined,
00:35:30who, almost without question,
00:35:31have bolted off an entirely new set of suspension rule,
00:35:34thought there's a new gear,
00:35:35there's a new engine,
00:35:36and basically,
00:35:37there's triple down to the bare tub,
00:35:39bar the wiring,
00:35:40and the fuel tank,
00:35:41and everything new goes on,
00:35:42but,
00:35:43again,
00:35:44if he'd just broken a suspension arm,
00:35:46they would have bolted a new one out,
00:35:48and sent out,
00:35:49so what has happened is,
00:35:50very probably,
00:35:51the landing from that bump,
00:35:53has weakened the tub,
00:35:54and eventually,
00:35:55under the huge loads that they generate here,
00:35:57not on the straight,
00:35:58particularly under braking,
00:35:59at some stage,
00:36:00it's just,
00:36:01the suspension mounting,
00:36:03out of the tub itself,
00:36:04and that is unfixable in the race.
00:36:05Yeah,
00:36:06pure speculation,
00:36:07of course,
00:36:08at this stage,
00:36:09but it certainly is,
00:36:10that's impossible,
00:36:11yeah.
00:36:12That's a possible explanation.
00:36:15Meanwhile,
00:36:16signature,
00:36:17I beg your pardon,
00:36:18not the rebellion,
00:36:19though,
00:36:20that Coupe is holding off,
00:36:21the 008 Aston Martin,
00:36:24now,
00:36:25this was,
00:36:26an interesting battle earlier on,
00:36:27is that Guy Smith in 13,
00:36:28or is that 12 mil Yarny,
00:36:31which is going to 12 mil Yarny,
00:36:33so Frank,
00:36:34just about trying to stop himself,
00:36:36going a lap behind 008,
00:36:38Frank Miner's staying in that car,
00:36:40a lot of teams were talking about,
00:36:41triple stinting tyres,
00:36:42and drivers,
00:36:43some teams deciding,
00:36:44they're only going to double stint their drivers,
00:36:46and double stint their tyres,
00:36:48as a result,
00:36:49because generally Stuart,
00:36:50what you do,
00:36:51when you change the next Muppet X,
00:36:52is to give them at least,
00:36:53a fighting charge,
00:36:54with a new set of runs.
00:36:55You generally do,
00:36:56also,
00:36:57when you change drivers,
00:36:58it takes quite a long time,
00:36:59and it usually takes longer,
00:37:00to change drivers,
00:37:01than just to fill the tank up with fuel,
00:37:02so generally,
00:37:03you try to change,
00:37:04change drivers,
00:37:05and,
00:37:06put tyres on at the same time.
00:37:08Teams would also want to start,
00:37:09trying to triple stint the tyres,
00:37:11because,
00:37:12obviously,
00:37:13first of all,
00:37:14a lot less time,
00:37:15if the tyres are holding up,
00:37:16and they,
00:37:17they hold up on the fuel load,
00:37:18there's no need to change tyres,
00:37:19and also,
00:37:20as we go into the night,
00:37:21we're going to give,
00:37:22the other drivers,
00:37:23time to rest a lot more,
00:37:24and that's certainly,
00:37:25what the Audi guys do,
00:37:26they did it last year,
00:37:27they were quadruple stinting last year,
00:37:28which gave,
00:37:29the other guys,
00:37:30enough time,
00:37:31to get a good nice kip,
00:37:32and be very fresh,
00:37:33for the next morning.
00:37:34Well that then,
00:37:35moves into,
00:37:36JJ Lato's spheres,
00:37:37and,
00:37:38and,
00:37:39Super Dane's spheres,
00:37:40of sort of doing,
00:37:41five or six things,
00:37:42through the night,
00:37:43as you're in agreement,
00:37:44you won't get out of the car,
00:37:45but,
00:37:46they tend to be,
00:37:47a little bit more disciplined,
00:37:48team bosses now,
00:37:49than to allow their drivers,
00:37:50to carry it on like that.
00:37:51So well,
00:37:52big story,
00:37:53in the first couple of hours here,
00:37:54the safety car,
00:37:55ended up,
00:37:56splitting up the lead battle,
00:37:58but now suddenly,
00:37:59maybe one little balance,
00:38:01has swung a tiny bit,
00:38:02away from Peugeot,
00:38:03and,
00:38:04giving Audi,
00:38:05a bit more hope.
00:38:06And actually,
00:38:07looking at the race pace,
00:38:08Audi still needs something,
00:38:10ah,
00:38:11J-Log Lamborghini,
00:38:12yes,
00:38:13it's still going,
00:38:14much against many predictions.
00:38:16That would look like,
00:38:17it is a puncher.
00:38:18Yes,
00:38:19at the very least,
00:38:20at the moment,
00:38:21but,
00:38:22we are seeing a lot of punches today,
00:38:24which is,
00:38:25something we've seen,
00:38:26all over the week,
00:38:27particularly on the GT1 cars,
00:38:28particularly on the left rear,
00:38:29I think,
00:38:30actually,
00:38:31probably exclusively on the left rear,
00:38:32which means,
00:38:33they are,
00:38:34tripping over some curve,
00:38:35somewhere.
00:38:36Actually,
00:38:37you'll hear,
00:38:38exit there,
00:38:39the,
00:38:40I mean,
00:38:41Porsche race,
00:38:42Tim Harvey and the rest,
00:38:43the slippery stuff,
00:38:44went right up to the,
00:38:45I mean,
00:38:46within inches of the grass,
00:38:47they were using so much roads,
00:38:48and these guys aren't,
00:38:50because they don't need to,
00:38:51but,
00:38:52I'm sure there's enough muck out there,
00:38:53to cause problems,
00:38:54if it was.
00:38:55It's just a load on the GT1 cars,
00:38:56it's led by the,
00:38:58major competition,
00:38:59for GT2.
00:39:26boost.
00:39:28...
00:39:39To.
00:39:40To.
00:39:41Key.
00:39:42Imagine that.
00:39:43Do.
00:39:44On company.
00:39:45Do.
00:39:46OK.
00:39:47Halo.
00:39:48Now we've seen it back happening in sparked going on the right road,
00:39:50Japan.
00:39:51BR Being wh Step Man.
00:39:52Do.
00:39:53For four minutes.
00:40:00And that would be, uh, how the Aston Martin is called the young driver Aston Martin, because, uh, two of them, Peter Cox and Thomas Edgar, are very firmly not young.
00:40:11Thomas, 33, Peter Cox, 46, uh, so Christopher Nago, 24, uh, Steve Dots, a young driver, and everybody, right, Charles and Hatchy, uh, in the last 70 years, he never began.
00:40:23So, um, to, to use the phrase, win as he wished, would probably mean to do him a little bit of a disservice.
00:40:29He's really very phenomenally quick in those, and clearly turned him into quite something of a sports car race as well.
00:40:35Yeah, I'm sure he'll hear you.
00:40:37And Thomas, Richard, where he goes on, that's what it's called as well.
00:40:41Okay, uh, he goes on a lot of GT1 experience, but he and Thomas, who have already won two GT1 World Championship races this season.
00:40:49So, uh, who have told you that you should be able to choose to win a lot of this weekend.
00:40:55Sweeping of places has happened then between the two Audis, which means that, uh, Tom Christensen is in four points ahead of Guamad Dumas,
00:41:04and Audrey Lotto, a 7'9 and 8, are 4'6.
00:41:08I was wondering a little, actually, whether he'd sit behind him for a while.
00:41:20There are two things that win you Le Mans. Good luck and good fuel mileage.
00:41:27And sitting behind the other Audi just might creep you an extra meter or two in a stent.
00:41:34Now, obviously, he's decided that Robert Dubois' pace wasn't quite what he wanted to be run.
00:41:41He'd like to get a tenth or two quicker a lap, but maybe Audi could be a fuel program.
00:41:45No amount of slick streaming down all the straights behind your teammate is going to gift you an extra lap.
00:41:51But it's interesting, it did occur to me, he might sort of sit there for quite a while.
00:41:56Yeah, we both did three minutes, twenty-eight seconds and change on the last lap round.
00:42:01In the meantime, the race lead at Zaza now, the wheel of car number two.
00:42:05He turned at three minutes, twenty-five point seven, so three seconds that's quicker.
00:42:09And out of the dose of the car number one that was coming in less than five seconds behind Zaza now.
00:42:14Peter, who plays the race, twenty-two.
00:42:17So two and a half seconds at the end of Zaza now.
00:42:20So, you know, I think that we're possibly going to be able to tackle for a little bit of the next couple seconds here.
00:42:26Yeah, so I'll get the car number two for Persia, Ignacio, French.
00:42:29Stefan Sarazan, French, from Portania, French.
00:42:33And closing fast from behind is the car that they didn't want to win last year,
00:42:38with a little foreign leader, Alan John, the Boots, Marc Genet, and David Brabham.
00:42:42And the difference this year is that Brabham is bad with Highcroft and David.
00:42:46So that was in the car that they didn't necessarily particularly want to get to the line.
00:42:51We still have a lot of hours to shuffle us around and sort it out well.
00:42:55But it does really interesting politics here.
00:42:57Do you know, you know, when you're at Audi, which, you know, closing up there,
00:43:01and then you go, okay, let's look at the second return for that time.
00:43:04Yeah, we still have that kind of tiny chip, because if you think that way...
00:43:08Well, yeah, the number one car last year, that car you can talk about,
00:43:13the first Brabham and Genet car was beginning a race,
00:43:17and the French-driven car was on the same lap,
00:43:20so if they really wanted it to mess around,
00:43:23they could have, you know, pulled the car and said,
00:43:25sorry, we need some more fuel as far as it will be in.
00:43:27And they didn't do that today for a moment.
00:43:29So if they really wanted to make all the headlines
00:43:31over their first win at Le Mans about Team Orders,
00:43:34and how the obvious rightful winners were robbed by Team Orders,
00:43:37just to announce a French vehicle to win it,
00:43:39then they could easily have done that.
00:43:41They would have lost far more than they gained.
00:43:43I'm going to beg to give you there, because the number two car was clearly a quickie car
00:43:46all the way through the weak one,
00:43:48you could have also through the race one year ago,
00:43:50and, as I said very long, if they hadn't had that final circuit car being
00:43:54within the final hour of the race,
00:43:56the number two car almost certainly would have won,
00:43:58because you had to make one last win stop than the other car.
00:44:01But, like I said, luck and fuel finance.
00:44:04That's what it's all about here.
00:44:07That's what it's all about here.
00:44:10Let's have a look at your back in the GG2 again,
00:44:13Mr. Orders, first and second, let's say five seconds
00:44:16between William Beretta and Jonathan Coles,
00:44:19from the car number 64 and 63 respectively.
00:44:22Jimmy Beroni is at the wheel of the recent company,
00:44:26the only Ferrari,
00:44:27he's about 17 seconds behind the wheel of the third in GG2.
00:44:30Well, we're looking here at the Mate 8 quarter, Jonathan Hershey,
00:44:33and still there's a prototype driver when you are here.
00:44:36Obviously, the other prototypes are a bit of a nightmare,
00:44:39as the Drayson Lola-Jug is going to be pushed back into the garage.
00:44:42Chuck and Cocker took that one over a while ago,
00:44:45but that's being pushed in now,
00:44:47and we've just done an hour and up from that,
00:44:49and we have some problems at the end of this morning,
00:44:51we remember the other day we had a crank sensor problem
00:44:54with driving the car, just aren't feeling the pit,
00:44:56and we had exactly the same problem this morning in the warm-up.
00:44:59And so we had some of the various sensor problems on that engine,
00:45:04which is really, really, very unusual,
00:45:06and that was really true,
00:45:07and that was a couple of days,
00:45:09was amazing to surprise the fact that that engine now
00:45:11has two crank sensors on board,
00:45:13and one switch between the two.
00:45:15This looks like it's something a bit more serious than...
00:45:18Well, I'm wondering if it was this car that I was hearing about,
00:45:21but one of them is putting these bottles down
00:45:23to some kind of bizarre harmonic vibration,
00:45:26and that might be the case that...
00:45:28Yeah, the great chamber there,
00:45:30Johnny Cocker actually was putting a string of...
00:45:32...with labs within the 3.30 range,
00:45:34and the conversation over from Paul Drayson
00:45:36is really hauling that car up the order,
00:45:38so a great disappointment,
00:45:39but hopefully that's going to be a quick victory,
00:45:41and they're going to be back out,
00:45:42probably with Kerry,
00:45:43Kerry over the wheel,
00:45:44and after receiving we all know what he can do in that car.
00:45:46Absolutely,
00:45:47and Paul Drayson,
00:45:48after his opening stint,
00:45:49was just...
00:45:50I don't know if they've gotten down off the ceiling yet,
00:45:52he was so excited by starting them on,
00:45:55and every lap he does here in the car,
00:45:58he's going faster and faster and faster,
00:46:00and just...
00:46:01I mean,
00:46:02you know what it was like the other day after the car,
00:46:03and they say,
00:46:04oh my God,
00:46:05now I know what this car could be,
00:46:07and you just can't calm him down.
00:46:09If intravenously and adrenaline
00:46:13does more than that,
00:46:14I don't know,
00:46:15I mean,
00:46:16he's just put a heart attack,
00:46:17victims in the P1 chart,
00:46:18and let him go into the fifth.
00:46:19It is wonderful to see that in future,
00:46:20because Paul Drayson's DEE,
00:46:22got the last round for the first Eastern round
00:46:24of the American Le Mansers,
00:46:25and that's the race for the C1 in California.
00:46:28Paul Drayson,
00:46:29for the very first time,
00:46:30did horrify that car,
00:46:31and did start the race first time,
00:46:32in the back,
00:46:33absolutely.
00:46:34I think he has,
00:46:35just got a boost in confidence,
00:46:36and I think that first century
00:46:38will get some more of it as well.
00:46:39Dr Ray,
00:46:40free Peugeot,
00:46:42and the lead,
00:46:43three Audis behind,
00:46:44is everything going according to plan
00:46:46for the moment for you?
00:46:47Yeah,
00:46:48we have not so,
00:46:49been so happy with the race car,
00:46:51because this costed us more than one minute,
00:46:55and if you are so close with the speed,
00:46:58then it's really tough,
00:46:59because,
00:47:00yeah.
00:47:02To have an advantage of one minute in racing,
00:47:05you need several hours,
00:47:06and this happened within 30 seconds,
00:47:08we couldn't have any influence on that.
00:47:10But anyway,
00:47:11this is a part of the racing,
00:47:13and the drivers have to keep the pace,
00:47:15and go constantly.
00:47:16Did you change the strategy after this?
00:47:19after this happened with the safety car?
00:47:21No,
00:47:22you have no influence on the safety car,
00:47:24and we just continue our strategy
00:47:26and you wanted to start it with.
00:47:28When you see the Peugeot stopping that early in the race,
00:47:32is that a sign that they might be going to win?
00:47:37No,
00:47:38I don't think,
00:47:39I think they are quite reliable cars,
00:47:41I have not exactly seen what happened,
00:47:43but,
00:47:44yeah,
00:47:45it must have been something important,
00:47:47if not,
00:47:48they wouldn't have taken the car out of the race.
00:47:49Thank you very much.
00:47:51Well,
00:47:52they need to listen to Radio Le Mans a little bit more,
00:47:54don't they,
00:47:55or watch Eurosport,
00:47:56because,
00:47:57we're pretty much up on exactly why.
00:47:58As he says,
00:47:59they wouldn't have taken the car out of the race,
00:48:01it was a trivial problem,
00:48:03and,
00:48:04indeed,
00:48:05Andy can't do very much about the safety cars,
00:48:07you just have them a winner,
00:48:08but interestingly,
00:48:09they're still in the moment,
00:48:10Perseus,
00:48:111, 2, 3,
00:48:123, 25, 6,
00:48:133, 25, 2,
00:48:143, 24, 7,
00:48:15behind them,
00:48:16Audi's,
00:48:174, 5, and 6,
00:48:183, 27,
00:48:193, 27,
00:48:203, 26.
00:48:21So,
00:48:22they're away,
00:48:23and they're further away that you want to be really,
00:48:25with your own your competitor, aren't they?
00:48:27You know,
00:48:28you don't want to be a second and a half of that,
00:48:29or two seconds of that,
00:48:30or two,
00:48:3124 hours,
00:48:32that's a yawning gap.
00:48:34But,
00:48:35one brake somewhere,
00:48:37can suddenly wipe out,
00:48:39an hour,
00:48:40three,
00:48:41four hours,
00:48:42of hard work,
00:48:43and Audi have,
00:48:44had that gap opened up,
00:48:45by being caught by a different safety car,
00:48:47from the Peugeot,
00:48:48and being laced,
00:48:49released at a separate time as well.
00:48:51So it can swing either way,
00:48:53we all know that.
00:48:54It's very,
00:48:55very unpredictable,
00:48:56at the moment,
00:48:57apart from the number three car,
00:48:58all the things going to plan with Peugeot,
00:49:00they're slowly pulling away from,
00:49:01the two Audi's,
00:49:02uh,
00:49:03three, sorry,
00:49:04three Audi's by mistake behind them,
00:49:05but, uh,
00:49:06anything can happen,
00:49:07you know,
00:49:08as you saw with the, uh,
00:49:09Peugeot Longage cars,
00:49:10it takes one,
00:49:11anything to happen,
00:49:12even without the race,
00:49:13so, uh,
00:49:14they'll,
00:49:15they'll be keeping,
00:49:16keeping themselves on list,
00:49:17and the Audi will be keeping them,
00:49:18keeping them on list,
00:49:19and keeping Audi on list,
00:49:20that's the market,
00:49:21especially with Fernando,
00:49:22and that,
00:49:23that,
00:49:24tank,
00:49:25and a 009 car.
00:49:26They're lying 7th and 8th,
00:49:27and of course,
00:49:28they're not the only Audi's,
00:49:29the top three,
00:49:30we've got the two Mercedes cars,
00:49:31in,
00:49:3210th and,
00:49:3314th place,
00:49:34at the moment,
00:49:35we'll take a quick race,
00:49:36and we'll be right back.
00:49:41We've got a 56,
00:49:42entry here,
00:49:43at Le Mans,
00:49:44in the car shows,
00:49:45with Mark Rockstar,
00:49:46his long time cohort,
00:49:47and Swiss Ruff,
00:49:48White Street,
00:49:49in the gravel,
00:49:50at the left-hander of Indianapolis,
00:49:52the slower bit,
00:49:53to which you can crash,
00:49:54after a clash,
00:49:55with,
00:49:56the,
00:49:57Ferrari,
00:49:58of,
00:49:59the,
00:50:00racing team,
00:50:01and Charles,
00:50:02who's,
00:50:03so the two car owners,
00:50:04coming to grips with each other,
00:50:06proving that,
00:50:07in fact,
00:50:08it is,
00:50:09or somewhere,
00:50:10for the car owners,
00:50:11to crash them,
00:50:12every time they go out,
00:50:13so,
00:50:14Tracy going back on pit road,
00:50:15and,
00:50:16up here below,
00:50:17is in the gravel.
00:50:18Meanwhile,
00:50:19it's a Porsche battle here,
00:50:20against the GT2 cars,
00:50:22and on your GT2 motor,
00:50:24Patrick Pillay,
00:50:25is in the,
00:50:26right car,
00:50:27and,
00:50:28Wolf Hitzler,
00:50:29oh no,
00:50:30this must be 88,
00:50:31is it?
00:50:32Not 77,
00:50:33and this 77,
00:50:34is Wolf Hitzler,
00:50:35ahead of Patrick Pillay,
00:50:37so this is a battle for position,
00:50:39and,
00:50:40they were,
00:50:41half a second apart,
00:50:42in the other order,
00:50:43and on the right,
00:50:44so he's just passed it.
00:50:45on the right,
00:50:46on the right there,
00:50:47and on the right there,
00:50:48and on the right,
00:50:49on the right,
00:50:50Tim Brinkley,
00:50:51has just set his fastest lap,
00:50:52of the race,
00:50:53for four minutes,
00:50:54point five,
00:50:55at seven, six,
00:50:56almost after a little dive,
00:50:57to the,
00:50:58class leader,
00:50:59Olivier Barretta,
00:51:00from 8.6,
00:51:01with now 16 seconds,
00:51:03between the first,
00:51:04and the third place,
00:51:05in the GT2,
00:51:06as you see,
00:51:0725 star,
00:51:08being pushed back into the garage,
00:51:10you can see,
00:51:11with left foot damage,
00:51:12on the Camember 83,
00:51:13so it looks,
00:51:14as though,
00:51:15he ever,
00:51:16gone by,
00:51:17in between,
00:51:18two parts of Indianapolis,
00:51:19and tried to get back,
00:51:20on the racing line,
00:51:21or,
00:51:22as the,
00:51:23prototype came past,
00:51:24Tracy tried to,
00:51:25out break him,
00:51:26into Indianapolis,
00:51:27I'm suggesting,
00:51:28possibly the matter,
00:51:29more likely,
00:51:30of the,
00:51:31whatever,
00:51:32they managed,
00:51:33to outfumble each other,
00:51:34into the gravel,
00:51:35and this was the pass then,
00:51:36yes,
00:51:37indicated by,
00:51:38Patrick Pillay,
00:51:39and that's a,
00:51:40that's a good indication,
00:51:41of the cars actually,
00:51:42you know,
00:51:43he is a factory Porsche driver,
00:51:44and,
00:51:45and,
00:51:46as well,
00:51:47and you know,
00:51:48they're not stinting here,
00:51:49it may not say,
00:51:50Rothman's Porsche,
00:51:51or something,
00:51:52as we used to seeing,
00:51:53in the older days,
00:51:54in the Group C days,
00:51:55but,
00:51:56there are very much,
00:51:57a whole host of,
00:51:59factory Porsche men,
00:52:00helping with the running,
00:52:01of these cars,
00:52:02because of course,
00:52:03they want to win,
00:52:04they don't want Ferrari to win,
00:52:05they don't want Corvette to win,
00:52:06BMW,
00:52:07or Aston Martin,
00:52:08they want Porsche to win,
00:52:09again,
00:52:10as well,
00:52:11very confident,
00:52:12and they're going to,
00:52:13with the leaders,
00:52:14in GT2,
00:52:15they're joining us,
00:52:16from the 40-hour,
00:52:17waiting to work,
00:52:18the boys,
00:52:19and they're going to pay,
00:52:20they're going to pay,
00:52:21they're going to pay,
00:52:22they're going to pay,
00:52:23they're going to pay,
00:52:24they're going to pay,
00:52:25a lot of money,
00:52:26they're going to pay,
00:52:27they're going to pay,
00:52:28they're going to pay,
00:52:29and they're going to pay,
00:52:30As we've just said, Jimmy Broomey, as fast as still, is to the point of flag.
00:52:34How about the year one of the Corvettes has just made a pit stop.
00:52:38Johnny O'Connell has just walked in one of his feet.
00:52:40That's been the biggest step of the day.
00:52:43So that's his second stick just starting.
00:52:46He just brought it into Fiorno here, preparing a few great four-class leaders as well, Olivia Barretta.
00:52:52And Jimmy Broomey has pulled down the gap from now the second-place race.
00:52:56And Jimmy Broomey has been absolutely on fire in that industry competition.
00:53:08But I'm looking for the 19th third, 24-hour race here, and one in a row, Olivia.
00:53:14That's really, really good to get.
00:53:15They do, of course, start on the post.
00:53:17It's not like they're short on pace.
00:53:19They're on the play five on the post.
00:53:20They qualify the fastest.
00:53:22So it's not like they're short on pace.
00:53:23We were going to talk a little bit earlier about passing GT cars from a prototype driver's point of view, Stuart.
00:53:30Particularly with things like the Corvette and GT1 cars.
00:53:33They're stocking the equipment straight line.
00:53:36They've got pretty efficient brakes as well.
00:53:38It's not just pick your place and sit by.
00:53:40You really have to work quite hard to just a lap something.
00:53:44It is, and as we've seen him in the Karim OJ in the Procladdy Zitek, he found it quite difficult to get past heads in the Porsche.
00:53:52I think it probably means that it's a bit more decisive.
00:53:55But especially in an LMP2 car, in a straight line, the speed difference between a GT2 and an LMP2 is not great.
00:54:03So you either have to do it in through the corners or on the brakes where your aero is at your maximum.
00:54:08So, and that is where the skill comes into it.
00:54:11You've got to be very good on the brakes.
00:54:12You've got to use the advantage of your car.
00:54:14And of course, Karim has got a pace advantage, but he is an enthusiastic gentleman driver, whereas he's up against a young hot shoe factory driver.
00:54:22Of course, don't accidentally end up putting people in cars.
00:54:24They have to be really la creme de la creme of German racing, so, yeah, he's, you know, he's got a quicker car, but he's got a really good car for every place he gets.
00:54:35As you saw there on the list, is that working sport, Jagd's still running?
00:54:39Actually, we just had a little check on that once again.
00:54:43I'm not sure those people died.
00:54:45That's it.
00:54:47Oh, quite soon.
00:54:49Anyway, this is maybe an entirely referential thing.
00:54:53Oh, that's a, well, that's a spiker just getting in a little hot animal.
00:55:02Oh, dear, oh, dear.
00:55:04That's Peter Dunbrek, I'm afraid, at the wheel of 85.
00:55:08Your own bike event has started it.
00:55:10Dunbrek took over, Tom Coronel waiting for third of me.
00:55:13Norma going very, very slowly in the background there.
00:55:17That's the Norma.
00:55:18Oh, dear, oh, Lord.
00:55:20And Peter having a problem there trying to negotiate the traffic as well.
00:55:24Right into the back of the Norma, which picks up a broken rear suspension.
00:55:28Going for a bad to worse that.
00:55:29It looks like going through Indianapolis, the pit's just got a little bit out of shape, and they're breaking a little bit too late for the next time, yeah, it ran wide.
00:55:40And then when coming up close to the track with a small amount of damage, through the portion curves, obviously going quite suddenly on the way back to the pits, is that.
00:55:48Peter and the Norma have obviously made contact, resulting in the Norma certainly coming up a lot worse.
00:55:53Well, now, I mean, bizarrely, when we pick it up, Peter Dunbrek is running into the back of the Norma, and I'm assuming that the Norma moved over, seeing a fast prototype, and it was offline, as was Peter himself.
00:56:09Fuel and windscreen and all the other bits and pieces, but then they've got to give it all the jolly bodies and get it back in the garage, because that has got to have sustained some damage somewhere.
00:56:18Then the car got away from the back, so it's hanging off the back, and it will go, it's a shame that they can't swipe it in.
00:56:27If they're going to send that back out, it certainly probably is the toughest car in the world to get away of any kind of that.
00:56:34Well, that's the aftermath, I'm afraid, and there was definitely traffic going through, but there was traffic where they were kicked out of the shop, as they came, and the first right is the first left to go.
00:56:43...
00:56:45...
00:56:48dot before the S's, you can have to use all the road to get through the S's, but you can't move a jam of some of the else, there are some trains in that section,
00:56:52This is nananananananananana
00:56:54Once you get it, I'm not in the third one
00:56:56You're not in the third one
00:56:58I'm not in the third one
00:57:00It's good for the crazy driver
00:57:02You've got a skew point
00:57:04Other stops there can be too many miles
00:57:06Will try and actually attract your attention now
00:57:08But the pressure killer
00:57:10The danger in her
00:57:12Is really about as high as anywhere else
00:57:14Yes, I know
00:57:16It's really only one line for everyone
00:57:18We've seen a drive in this time
00:57:20I didn't expect that
00:57:22That car is going quickly
00:57:24Oh, it's not going back quickly
00:57:26Is it? I think we're all four wheels on
00:57:30Was he just picking up?
00:57:32Maybe he was just going back
00:57:34Maybe he was just going back
00:57:36Meanwhile, sorry
00:57:38In the bridge is Neil Lapierre
00:57:40This is the car that is in third position
00:57:42And that means that Tom Christensen
00:57:44You'll get
00:57:46Very close indeed
00:57:48If not actually up to the
00:57:50Now, how close are we?
00:57:52Didn't notice what they were doing last lap
00:57:54Which means noting down when they stop
00:57:56The projects have been on
00:57:58Twelve lap stops at the moment
00:58:02But the 13 of the decide
00:58:04And it was yes
00:58:06Last lap 35
00:58:08Well, it's up
00:58:1048 laps in the board
00:58:12So, 14 laps there
00:58:14And that's still going to go up there
00:58:16And the Aston Martin
00:58:18I'm not thinking that
00:58:20He's doing a kind of pace in a
00:58:21In a GT1 Aston
00:58:22I don't think it is
00:58:24It looks...
00:58:25I mean, I would say
00:58:26It's up to speed
00:58:28It's nice to the corner
00:58:30We've got to pick that grinder
00:58:32So, we've got to calm down
00:58:34I'm thinking the Porsche
00:58:36That we just saw was going quicker
00:58:38Now, Norma comes in
00:58:40As the Orica
00:58:42Perger goes out
00:58:43Step 3rd place
00:58:44It's nice that
00:58:48That's a bit of going in again
00:58:50But that is a bit of an
00:58:51Okay job to
00:58:52To the head now
00:58:53Yeah
00:58:54Aston Martin
00:58:56There's Aston Martin
00:58:57There's no Aston Martin
00:58:58There's no Aston Martin
00:58:59Our main road for Fernandes
00:59:00Another Sheffield
00:59:01Still likely
00:59:02There's 7th place car
00:59:03Double 7
00:59:04And Sam Hancock
00:59:05The double 9
00:59:06I think he's just
00:59:07He's just made a piss off
00:59:08As well
00:59:09So, both of us
00:59:10Although Aston Martin's
00:59:11On the third lane
00:59:12And that's
00:59:13Hancock is going to go
00:59:15With some help
00:59:16Or even Fernandes
00:59:18The Dresden car
00:59:20We're just looking to see
00:59:21All its progress
00:59:22Doesn't appear to be
00:59:23In the garage
00:59:24Has just left recently
00:59:25As the normal comes in
00:59:26Pierre Bruno's car
00:59:28Is in its garage
00:59:29As well
00:59:30Up on its jacks
00:59:31Which is going to try
00:59:32To meet
00:59:33The Radical Jug
00:59:34Is in the garage
00:59:35Next to the lane
00:59:36Of the jump
00:59:37Trace the lane of the jump
00:59:38And I was just checking
00:59:39The halls of the lane
00:59:40The Crave Racing
00:59:41Grecian Competizione
00:59:42Green Ferrari
00:59:43Is still down there
00:59:44As in comes
00:59:4552
00:59:46Meanwhile
00:59:47The heavy Highcroft
00:59:48Acura
00:59:49Acura
00:59:50And I don't think
00:59:52There's the other one
00:59:53With Ferro
00:59:55He's at the wheel
00:59:56Thirlers
00:59:57Still battling hard
00:59:58For the lead of the car
00:59:59And the line
01:00:01We are going to have to see
01:00:02Exactly what the cap is
01:00:03To car's lead
