00:00:00We're going to take a very quick commercial break. We'll be out live with more from Le Mans in just a moment. Stay with us here on Eurosport.
00:00:13Welcome back to Eurosport. Welcome back to coverage of the Le Mans 24-hour race 2010, the wall of attrition.
00:00:23And that's what it's really becoming now with the evening up of the battle between Peugeot and Audi.
00:00:31And at the moment, it's Sarazen still holding off the challenge, but it remains to be seen whether we get any more of the dramas that seem to have affected certainly Peugeot over the last hour or so.
00:00:44And put us in a situation where at the moment it's splitting itself with Peugeot, then two Audis, then a Peugeot, then another Audi, and then another Peugeot.
00:00:52Still, we've got the Aston in the top ten, for those of you who are Aston Martin fanatics, and they still have the most dramatic and the most wonderful wail of that 12-cylinder engine.
00:01:05For those of you at home listening, you can hear it in the background. I don't know when it comes by, but it really is absolutely great from time to time.
00:01:12And particularly on a night session like this, one walks outside just for a few seconds or so, and you hear that Aston go by, and the wail of that sound is absolutely fantastic.
00:01:22It reminds me so much of the days of the Matras, and we were talking about the fact that, of course, this race has had, as one of its drivers,
00:01:31and Andretti, and the Andretti family have been trying to win this race now.
00:01:37Both Mario tried to win it, Michael has tried to win it, Marco has come for the first time, and so far it has eluded them.
00:01:45And for those of you who don't know this, only one man has ever won.
00:01:49Indianapolis, Monaco, and the Le Mans 25 Rays, which were always recognised, and still, to me, are the races to win.
00:01:58Well, they're still the only races that everybody has heard of.
00:02:01If you say Monaco, if you say Indianapolis, if you say Le Mans, people understand that you're talking about motor racing,
00:02:08in the same way that if you say Grand National, they understand you're talking about horses.
00:02:13And, yeah, I mean, the Holy Trinity, Graham Hill, the only man ever to have won all three.
00:02:18And, in fact, the drivers that have come closest have both been Americans.
00:02:23Mario Andretti never won here, but won Monaco and Indy.
00:02:27And AJ Ford won here and at Indy, but, of course, never did Formula One, so never won Monaco.
00:02:32So, and it's a...
00:02:34It was close.
00:02:36A fairly unique challenge.
00:02:38You can't imagine a modern racing driver...
00:02:42I don't know...
00:02:44I suppose you almost could.
00:02:46If he won Monaco young enough, might go to IRL and continue a single-seater career if, for some reason,
00:02:57he ended up not being able to find a seat in a competitive car at the right time.
00:03:02You could see then, maybe, in his 30s, I don't know, any other sports car driver.
00:03:06But, I don't know, it was one who looked as if he might give it a go.
00:03:09Yeah, maybe, yes.
00:03:10I suppose it could be possible these days.
00:03:12In those days, of course, you'd do all concurrently.
00:03:15You didn't have separate careers.
00:03:16Your career was your career and you did everything you could.
00:03:19And that is an LMP2 car.
00:03:22Which one is it, though?
00:03:24Sitting at the side of the road.
00:03:25Is that...
00:03:26Come on.
00:03:27I don't know.
00:03:28Oh, he's had it.
00:03:29Ah, he's...
00:03:30There's a marshal running to pick up a wing.
00:03:31Yeah.
00:03:31That's more than sitting at the side of the road.
00:03:33Change for the Hancock Porsche, Ferrari even.
00:03:36Uh, Dominic Farnbanker getting out.
00:03:38And is that Alan...
00:03:40I'm guessing that's Alan Simonson getting back in.
00:03:43I would think it would.
00:03:43It would be if I was the team boss, anyway.
00:03:46I don't care how little sleep he's had.
00:03:47Get in.
00:03:47Car 14.
00:03:49It's a P1 car.
00:03:50It's Christian Albus, Scott Tucker and Manuel Rodriguez.
00:03:53Colle's Audi.
00:03:53That's been the unfortunate one.
00:03:55That's had the curse on it this weekend.
00:03:58The 14 car was in 16th position.
00:04:00That is at the side of the road.
00:04:02Post 123, Neville Hay.
00:04:05It's very close to here.
00:04:07That is in the Porsche curves.
00:04:11Uh...
00:04:12No, I don't lie.
00:04:13It is in the Porsche curves, yeah.
00:04:16Uh...
00:04:17Oh, no.
00:04:17It's closer than that.
00:04:19No, it isn't.
00:04:19It's just...
00:04:20It's the double left before karting.
00:04:23So it is the middle of the Porsche curves.
00:04:25And if he is by the wall...
00:04:29I think he's hit the wall.
00:04:30Yes, he has.
00:04:31Because they were running to pick a wing up.
00:04:33But he's obviously come to...
00:04:34He's going to say they'll be lucky to get away with the local yellow.
00:04:37But you can see coming out of the gap on the left by the fence is that digger.
00:04:43He's come out there and he will haul him back in.
00:04:46That's the end of the race for that 14 car.
00:04:48I don't care.
00:04:49Well, as I said, you can bounce Audi's off a lot of things and they'll come back for more.
00:04:53But that seems to have been rather too strenuously bounced.
00:04:57GT2, second position in class.
00:05:00Antonio Garcia out.
00:05:02And being strapped in then.
00:05:05I'm going to work this out, actually.
00:05:10Johnny O'Connell.
00:05:13Should be Johnny O'Connell.
00:05:16Well, it's saying Antonio Garcia, but I don't think it's changed.
00:05:19Because I don't see why they would have re-strapped him in.
00:05:22I mean, he was in the car.
00:05:23I didn't notice the helmet.
00:05:25And unfortunately, Johnny O' and Jan's are vaguely similar.
00:05:29Yeah, well, if Connell was in the car, I think...
00:05:31No, I thought Garcia was in the car just now.
00:05:32Yeah, then Garcia has taken over.
00:05:34So I think he's doing his second stin.
00:05:36Well, you don't get your seatbelt strapped up if you're doing a second stin.
00:05:39No.
00:05:39It's Magnusson.
00:05:40OK.
00:05:41Magnusson, let's say it's changed.
00:05:42I'm trying to remember who'd gravel trapped it.
00:05:44And whether it was Johnny O' or Jan Magnusson.
00:05:46I think it was Johnny O' and we were talking about Jan Magnusson, which has got me out of sync.
00:05:50My mistake, yeah.
00:05:51I knew it was O'Connor was driving it when it went in the gravel.
00:05:55And I thought, in fact, that Magnusson had finished his stint.
00:05:58Uh, no.
00:06:00But I don't think he's touched it since first thing.
00:06:02That was Garcia getting out.
00:06:03Meanwhile, aside from that little confusion, here is the third-placed Audi, car number eight, Andre Lotterer.
00:06:11The lead pair of Audis, which are second and third, have completed 201 laps now.
00:06:16And the leader, Stefan Sarazan, in his Peugeot, has completed 202 laps.
00:06:21This is the 17th stop for this Audi.
00:06:24Dumas has made 16, leader Sarazan's 15.
00:06:27So not only have Peugeot got pace, but they've got fuel economy.
00:06:31Now, Sarazan is having to turn down the week a little to get a dozen laps out of the car.
00:06:36Whereas, the number one car of Anthony Davidson was not only lapping quicker than everybody,
00:06:42but also going further on fuel than anybody earlier on, doing 13 laps of a stint.
00:06:47Whereas its teammates, rather perplexingly for them, were only doing 12.
00:06:52And Davidson, I'm not sure if he's still doing 13-lap stints.
00:06:54But he is in fourth place now, and two laps still from getting onto a podium.
00:07:03So he needs the sort of drama that befell him to jolly well hurry up and befell somebody else,
00:07:09if it wouldn't mind.
00:07:10Down at the Oak Racing Team.
00:07:14I have to admit, I didn't recognise what helmet that was.
00:07:18This is Pierre Ragg in the 008 Lola Aston Martin.
00:07:22The one run by Signature Plus, which, aside from the colour scheme,
00:07:27is identical to the two Golf Lola Astons ahead of it.
00:07:30They are 7th and 8th.
00:07:31This one is 10th.
00:07:33And they are the three best-placed petrol-powered cars,
00:07:36because all the rest of the 10, all other seven cars, are diseasals.
00:07:40With three Virgos, three Audi R15 Pluses,
00:07:47and Christian Bakkerud's Colley's Audi, number 15, which is an R10 TDI,
00:07:52which is now in 9th place.
00:07:54So the diseasals by sheer weight and numbers, Neville Hay,
00:07:57are almost filling out our entire top 10, Curtis.
00:08:00Yeah, and what a change.
00:08:02It had decayed, because by 2000,
00:08:04the only diesals that we ever talked about was the Delatres brothers,
00:08:09and the cars that they had driven,
00:08:11just after the Second World War here.
00:08:14Well, no, because there was also a Caterpillar diesel engine car
00:08:17that arrived, and unfortunately at that stage,
00:08:22the transmission technology was nothing like resistant or resilient enough
00:08:28to withstand the phenomenal torque of the engine.
00:08:31So it was in an older chassis anyway,
00:08:34so it was hardly a state-of-the-art chassis,
00:08:37but it was certainly the first knockings of what became a very significant revolution.
00:08:41It's interesting, actually, to see,
00:08:43or it will be interesting to see what Audi turn up with next year,
00:08:46because I'm 100% convinced from everything that we've been told
00:08:51that they will come with new technology that does not involve a diesel engine.
00:08:56They're fairly convinced, and I'm not sure I could disagree with them,
00:08:59that they've proved their point with diesel,
00:09:02with two different generations of cars,
00:09:04that a car with a diesel engine in does not have to be seen as a smoky, nasty old NACA,
00:09:10and can actually be fast, sporty, and fun to drive.
00:09:14And they've really rammed that point home very succinctly, I think,
00:09:17by winning umpteen Le Mans.
00:09:19So now they're going to come with something else.
00:09:21And whether or not the four-electric motor R8
00:09:24that was driven around the track today by Frank Bieler
00:09:27is any indication of where they might be going or not,
00:09:30only, I'm afraid, another 12 months will tell us.
00:09:33Now, here's the answer to the Who That There Then?
00:09:35oak racing question,
00:09:36because their car is coming down the pit road.
00:09:40Now, the two oak racing cars are, respectively,
00:09:44hiding from me, and also hiding from me in GT2.
00:09:50This is, uh, the Jean Cheru's car.
00:09:54No, it's not.
00:09:55It's the other car.
00:09:56This is 24.
00:09:5824, this is, yeah.
00:09:59And, uh, where am I finding that there?
00:10:01In 30th place, that's Rishanang getting out,
00:10:05who is normally co-driven by Jean Moreau.
00:10:09Jean Moreau?
00:10:12Famous French actress?
00:10:13No, Guillaume Moreau.
00:10:15Because I can't remember that being there.
00:10:18Now, there is a question.
00:10:19I now have to ask Guillaume Moreau
00:10:20if he's related in any way to Jean Moreau.
00:10:22It's probably like asking Guy Smith
00:10:24if he's related in any way to every other Smith on the planet,
00:10:27or any other Rampard Smith,
00:10:28but there you go.
00:10:29It's a stupid question.
00:10:31Uh, they are in,
00:10:33and the other oak racing car, the number 35 car,
00:10:36doesn't seem to have any driver,
00:10:39according to timing and scoring.
00:10:40Uh, apparently I have to mention Gemma and the White Heart in Gainsborough.
00:10:45Oh, have you just got the same text, Miss Boy?
00:10:48Probably, probably.
00:10:50Professionals that we are,
00:10:51mine at least was on silent, Nev,
00:10:54during the middle of the night.
00:10:55Is that your boy?
00:10:57Uh, no, it's back again to the White Heart.
00:11:00Yes, all right.
00:11:02I got one from Richard saying,
00:11:04please mention Gemma and the White Heart in Gainsborough.
00:11:06That's twice, all right?
00:11:08So if that's not a three-something or other,
00:11:10I don't know what.
00:11:12And, uh, oh, hello Martin.
00:11:14Martin Rowe,
00:11:15uh, who superbly edits F3 and GT on four,
00:11:19uh, and will be working his magic on the Bielton Rallycross.
00:11:24Ooh, Knight Rallycross.
00:11:25Oh, great.
00:11:27But they are doing something, actually,
00:11:28because I spoke with number one son Richard earlier on today.
00:11:31Ah, so that must be Knight Rallycross tonight.
00:11:33British Rallycross Championship,
00:11:35exploring even more boundaries.
00:11:37And, uh...
00:11:37Strange are the ways of people.
00:11:39Strange are the ways of man.
00:11:40There's the 24-car in back on its way.
00:11:43Hello, we've got a problem there.
00:11:45Yes, that's Rebellion rebelling against its driver.
00:11:47That's the Porsche Curves as well.
00:11:49Don't stop there under Neil Yarny.
00:11:52That's really unfair.
00:11:54No.
00:11:55He's grinding to all...
00:11:56Is that coming into the pit?
00:11:57I don't think he had any alternative to stopping there.
00:12:02No, I know he didn't.
00:12:04I think he just had to stop.
00:12:06Come on, car, get on with it.
00:12:09That's got to be the Porsche Curve.
00:12:10Yeah.
00:12:11Or the entrance to the Ford Chicane.
00:12:13I'm not sure which.
00:12:14Yeah, well, Marshalls have come to his aid.
00:12:18Post 131, 13.1 kilometres in.
00:12:22Good Lord, it is the entrance to the pit lane.
00:12:24Yeah.
00:12:25It has ground to a halt now.
00:12:27Has it gone, pooh, pooh, pooh, I'm empty?
00:12:30Or has it run out of something other than petroleum?
00:12:34Like electricity.
00:12:35No, plenty electricity there.
00:12:37Lights on.
00:12:38Well, that's not necessarily the same thing.
00:12:40Running lights and running engines.
00:12:42Now, put it on silent.
00:12:43There's another one.
00:12:43I will indeed.
00:12:44At 73 is the Alphonse Aventure Corvette.
00:12:48Now, this car, at one stage, was looking very strong in the GT1 class.
00:12:53Lost the lead to Julien Canal and crew in the number 50 Saline and is now in the pits.
00:13:00So, too, it's Christian Baccarut in the number 15 Collier's Audi, the car that's in ninth place overall.
00:13:12And stopping the three Lola Aston Martins from running together.
00:13:16Look, look.
00:13:17Oh, now, how tantalizing is that?
00:13:22I'm willing.
00:13:24No, I'm not willing to bet because it's really unfortunate if he has.
00:13:27But he has all the hallmarks of having just run out of fuel somehow.
00:13:30But by this stage in the race, halfway through, cars don't accidentally go on to an extra lap.
00:13:37They just don't.
00:13:39You might do it in the first out or on the first stint when you think you've worked out what your fuel mileage is and you find out in the heat of battle.
00:13:45Actually, it's not.
00:13:47It's more than you allowed for and you run dry.
00:13:49That's a bit tragic, isn't it, actually, to see it pushed away just like that.
00:13:53And it is within literally a two-minute walk of the pit lane.
00:13:58That is really rotten.
00:13:59Now, of course, they're pushing it out of the way to get it out of the way, not to push it into retirement.
00:14:05So, Neil Yarny is on the radio patently.
00:14:07We saw that his engineer was talking to him.
00:14:10And he will be going, check this, check that, flick this, flick that, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:14:14But his opportunity to get it in on the starter motor, if that was ever a conceivable possibility, is receding as they push him back further from the track.
00:14:25I mean, the thing to do with the starter motor deal is when you're coasting in neutral and the darn thing won't fire, won't fire, won't fire, won't fire.
00:14:33It's just as it's rolling to a halt.
00:14:35Use the momentum you've got and try and key it in on the button on the starter motor.
00:14:39So, it's a long way, and marshals really don't like you doing it.
00:14:43But on the other hand, they're not trying to win the race.
00:14:46You is.
00:14:47AWOL in the car.
00:14:50Andy Wallace, of course, winner of Le Mans for TWR Jaguar in that 1-2 that Fiona Miller was talking about, her first ever race here.
00:14:58No wonder the team liked her and got her to stay with them.
00:15:01And in the pits is the number two car racing the Stefan Sarazan.
00:15:05And the reason there were bodies in is that there's a driver change going on, I'm thinking.
00:15:10Tyres as well usually indicates there's a driver change.
00:15:13What happens is the driver gets out the right-hand door and the mechanic hurls himself in the left-hand door to buckle up the straps for the new driver.
00:15:22It was Stefan Sarazan.
00:15:23For those of you who are observing these pit stops, that Audi are making and that Peugeot are making, I don't know whether you realise it, but there seems to me to be much more urgency.
00:15:34They are actually well-practiced.
00:15:36They're absolutely bang on every time, as we've noticed.
00:15:40But there's just a sort of a feeling of urgency, a feeling that this battle is well and truly joined now.
00:15:46There's a lap between them, and that's all.
00:15:49Yes, and that's only a brush with destiny away.
00:15:52Nick Minassion is the answer.
00:15:54We didn't see him getting in, but it is he at the wheel.
00:15:57So quick Nick takes over from Stefan Sarazan.
00:16:00Franck Montagny is the third driver.
00:16:02Franck told us quite a lot earlier on that they were going to do double stints, and so you sort of get an hour and a half off.
00:16:09Andy Marriott down there in the pit lane in the speed cap.
00:16:13We're going to go and talk to the Rebellion Group for speed televisions coverage.
00:16:17I think they're doing all 24 hours, and there is Charlie Lamb, the man who was, in my mind, really unnecessarily berated by Wolfgang Ulrich earlier on when his man Andy Prio was unfortunate enough to catch out Tom Christensen.
00:16:33Not by any deliberate mistake, but just by trying to give Tom room when Tom was already committed to a different line.
00:16:40Christensen went off, and Ulrich also went off like a very badly lit sparkler.
00:16:47I'm afraid, showing just what pressure Audi were under at that stage, and rather disappointingly, actually, Mario Tyson wasn't in the garage to stand up there and say,
00:16:55excuse me, would you stop talking to my team like that and clearly get back to your own end of the pit lane?
00:17:01So the BMW certainly did nothing deliberate to hinder Audi, and they're having their own problems running their car.
00:17:09They've got their own gate to get on to, but they are in the top half dozen in the GT2 class as the car sits on pit road.
00:17:16We'll be back.
00:17:19We've had a momentary panic here because on our wall we have a chart, and if anybody retires from the race, we require what is known as the marker of doom.
00:17:32Yeah, the marker of doom has vanished rather disappointingly somewhere, and I can't find it in the detritus that is our office.
00:17:39Charlie Lamb there, you just saw his brother Dieter coming in, removing his gloves.
00:17:45Of course, they, for a number of years, are responsible for leading BMW's charge in the World Touring Car Championship.
00:17:51And the European Touring Car Championship before that.
00:17:54They're great fun to be with, actually.
00:17:55The Schnitzer team have been involved in sports car racing before with the V8 M3 before, before that with the V12 LM, which, of course, well, in fact, the last time Charlie Lamb was here, they won Le Mans.
00:18:07Yeah, with the V12, yeah.
00:18:09I don't think.
00:18:11Oh, now I'm, did they bring the V8?
00:18:15Right, answers on the postcard.
00:18:16No, I don't think they'd ever, I don't think we've had a V8 here.
00:18:19We had a V12.
00:18:20You've got time to Google it.
00:18:22Did BMW win here with the V8?
00:18:24I know they won in the American Le Mans series with a car that they promised they'd homologate and then didn't.
00:18:29Oh, I shouldn't have mentioned that, should I?
00:18:31But I don't remember if they brought it to Le Mans.
00:18:34Anyway, if it wasn't that time, the time before when Charlie was here, he won it anyway.
00:18:39So, yeah, there we go.
00:18:40So, um, slightly losing track, trying to do too many things at the same time.
00:18:46Sorry, not tweeting at the moment, but, you know, can't talk and think.
00:18:49Let's have a look at the times.
00:18:51Let's have a look and see who's going quickly.
00:18:53Uh, and going quickly again is like Deval in 3.22.9.
00:18:59Mmm.
00:19:00Um, he is actually the quickest of the top half dozen.
00:19:05There's no question about that.
00:19:07And again, you see the Peugeots are going very quickly,
00:19:10because Anthony Davidson doing 3.24s,
00:19:12but the two Audis in front of him, which are second and third, doing 3.27s.
00:19:16Now, you know, when we're used to talking about a two and a half kilometer,
00:19:20two and a half mile lap, rather, you know, Silverstone Grand Prix circuit or something like that,
00:19:24you know, two or three seconds a lap,
00:19:26actually you sort of get your lap back in quite a long time.
00:19:29However, when you are talking not about a one minute 12 lap,
00:19:33but a three minute 30 lap,
00:19:35it takes a very much longer time to make any real inroads on anybody.
00:19:40So, still the lap lead of Nicola Minacion in car number two is a very large lead.
00:19:45A couple of GT2 cars on pit road,
00:19:47looking here at the 75 Porsche.
00:19:50That is starting to annoy its team, I'm suggesting.
00:19:54The pro-speed car, Nick Homerson at the wheel,
00:19:57but it's been there quite some while in that gorge,
00:20:00and it's sliding down the order.
00:20:01The other car that was on pit road was the number 83 Krohn Racing Ferrari,
00:20:06Edgar Van der Poel at the wheel of that car.
00:20:08Tracy Krohn had an incident earlier where he said Pierre Bruneau's car
00:20:13biffed him in the slow left at Indianapolis.
00:20:19Certainly there was bifferage,
00:20:21and it seemed to be fairly much 50-50.
00:20:24I'm sensing disconsolateness.
00:20:27Is that a word?
00:20:27Yes, yes, it's a good word.
00:20:30Some disconsolation.
00:20:33Consolation, yes.
00:20:34Disconsolation, no.
00:20:36Yes, despondency, I think, possibly is set in.
00:20:39It's all over.
00:20:41I walk the line.
00:20:41And I'm afraid if it is all over,
00:20:44then it is all all over for the Rebellion team,
00:20:48and the removal of headsets and the shaking of heads
00:20:51suggests that Hugh and Bart Hayden's team is done for this Le Mans.
00:20:56And that is really a shame,
00:20:58because they haven't had much in terms of luck this year in the Le Mans series.
00:21:03They've had a lot to show in terms of preparation and pace.
00:21:08They just have not been able to back it up with good luck.
00:21:11So, I'm afraid, again, we go back to that thing,
00:21:14you only need two ingredients here,
00:21:17luck and fuel mileage,
00:21:19and they had one, but not the other.
00:21:21So, having already wielded the marker of doom over car number 13,
00:21:26perhaps prematurely,
00:21:28I'm going to run a line through car number 12 as well,
00:21:32and I'm going to say that it stopped on the track
00:21:36and has not come back in.
00:21:38And certainly the body language says that we will not see it,
00:21:42or the team again.
00:21:43So, we'll be another pair of toothless garages in the pit lane.
00:21:47The Bruglady,
00:21:49Ginetta Zajtek,
00:21:50is back in once more.
00:21:52And this car, again,
00:21:53has tumbled a little down the order
00:21:55since we spoke to the Ginetta boss,
00:22:00Lawrence Tomlinson,
00:22:01Richard Tomlinson,
00:22:02Lawrence Tomlinson,
00:22:02a couple of hours ago.
00:22:04Gary Challendon now dropped off page one,
00:22:06down into 22nd place,
00:22:09and that car was in 17th,
00:22:11just behind Andy Wallace in the RML car.
00:22:15Seemed reasonably happy when it went out then,
00:22:18so perhaps it's got to have a chance
00:22:19to regain a bit of ground.
00:22:22Well, not particularly happy with their car
00:22:25on the BMS Scuderi Italia trio.
00:22:27Marco Holzer,
00:22:28Richard Westbrook,
00:22:30that didn't sound right for the first time,
00:22:33and Timo Scheider.
00:22:34In it comes,
00:22:36brand new Vaisant car,
00:22:38on the key,
00:22:40first time it's ever turned wheels,
00:22:42was here at Le Mans.
00:22:44Went very well for them in practice.
00:22:47They got a really good set-up.
00:22:48They were happy with their qualifying pace.
00:22:50They didn't extend themselves too far.
00:22:53They had a really good race set-up.
00:22:55They stripped it and put in a new race engine.
00:22:58It's flat as a fart.
00:22:59It just can't pull the skin off a rice pudding.
00:23:02And Richard Westbrook was saying,
00:23:04well, you know,
00:23:05we're taking off wing so much,
00:23:07and the thing's, you know,
00:23:08half likely to take off.
00:23:09It's got so much negative lift,
00:23:10and it can't get out of its own way.
00:23:13So now all they can do is rag it around
00:23:16in the hope that it will at least finish,
00:23:18and by dint of some decent amount of retirements,
00:23:21go a little further up the order.
00:23:23It is currently just for completists.
00:23:27Oh, Dad, it's just off the screen.
00:23:29I've lost it completely.
00:23:3097, come to me.
00:23:32Come to Daddy.
00:23:33There it is.
00:23:33Marco Holtz who's driving it.
00:23:34He is, gosh,
00:23:36one, two, three, four now on page one,
00:23:38fifth, sixth, seventh in GT2,
00:23:41with a lap lead over the BMW
00:23:43despite that pit stop,
00:23:45as Giancarlo Fischichella's Ferrari team
00:23:47are ready.
00:23:49Giancarlo Fischichella is two cars ahead,
00:23:51which makes him in fifth place
00:23:54in the GT2 class.
00:23:56He's just gone ahead of the rallying car
00:23:58of Neil Yarny,
00:23:59which has now dropped to 24th
00:24:00and will continue to plunge
00:24:02because it ain't completing its lap.
00:24:04Fischichella in fifth place in GT2
00:24:07as he brings the Ferrari in.
00:24:08Now, this is his second stint ending.
00:24:11New tyres and fuel.
00:24:14Are they going to leave Giancarlo in?
00:24:17No, they're not going to leave Giancarlo in.
00:24:19Double stinting,
00:24:19as they promised us they would.
00:24:21So, he gets out.
00:24:23That's not John O'Lacy getting in,
00:24:25I'm suggesting, is it?
00:24:26No, I don't think so.
00:24:27So, that means...
00:24:28Oh, dear, oh, me.
00:24:31Who's the third one?
00:24:32Come on.
00:24:32Oh, Tony Vlander.
00:24:33Sorry.
00:24:34Sorry, Tony.
00:24:36And day two is getting underway
00:24:38with clean lights and clean windscreen.
00:24:42We're used to seeing, of course,
00:24:44in a single-seater context
00:24:46with a driver with an extra layer or two
00:24:48of plastic on the visor
00:24:49so that if it gets mucky
00:24:50you can peel it off and throw it away.
00:24:52A tear-off strip.
00:24:54Well, you have tear-off windscreens
00:24:55in this game as well.
00:24:56And that's only just started.
00:24:58Yeah, last five or six years.
00:24:59It hasn't been going very long.
00:25:00But I'll ask, you know,
00:25:01half a dozen years.
00:25:03And it doesn't make a difference,
00:25:04I'll tell you.
00:25:05It really does.
00:25:06Well, it's like cleaning your windscreen.
00:25:08It also helps to prevent stone chips
00:25:11and all sorts of other garbage.
00:25:13And there are different ways of skinning a cap.
00:25:15You can certainly clean it as well.
00:25:17But maybe at halfway through the race,
00:25:18particularly if somebody in front
00:25:20of the chassis with gravel
00:25:21and drivers complaining of a few stone chips.
00:25:24By taking the film off,
00:25:25you don't necessarily get rid of all the stone chips
00:25:27but you can get rid of some of the light diffraction
00:25:29and that all helps.
00:25:30And the other way here,
00:25:31look at the Peugeot mechanic
00:25:32cleaning the windscreen
00:25:34and the light.
00:25:35And the reason he can do that,
00:25:37touching the car while the fueling is going on,
00:25:39is because it is a safety issue.
00:25:42Don't forget, also, Nev,
00:25:45when we talked about this
00:25:46when you introduced the rules several years ago,
00:25:48there hasn't really become too much of a fiasco.
00:25:50While we're looking at the closed car,
00:25:52there is a maximum temperature in the car
00:25:56constantly being recorded, isn't there?
00:25:57And if it goes too high,
00:25:58and if it goes too high,
00:25:58the cars get black flagged.
00:26:00Now, I don't remember in Le Mans where,
00:26:03or in any other race,
00:26:04where we've had a string of cars
00:26:05or even one or two cars black flagged.
00:26:09So, clearly,
00:26:10the air conditioning systems
00:26:11and ventilation they put in
00:26:13have actually worked
00:26:15to try and make the drivers
00:26:16a little less uncomfortable.
00:26:18I think there was,
00:26:20and I don't think I'd better say it to me,
00:26:23because people are much bigger than me
00:26:26and they'll come and hit me.
00:26:27But I think there was,
00:26:30about three or four years ago,
00:26:31I do recall a car having a long stop
00:26:34because, for want of a better word,
00:26:37the air conditioning had failed
00:26:39and the cockpit temperature
00:26:42was becoming decidedly concerning
00:26:45to the team.
00:26:46The sight of Alexander Wurz
00:26:48in the car,
00:26:49or rather,
00:26:50Anthony,
00:26:51let's do that again.
00:26:52The sight of Anthony Davidson
00:26:53in the Peugeot Garage
00:26:54means that Alexander Wurz
00:26:55has taken over car number one.
00:26:57We didn't see that
00:26:58because we were busy seeing
00:26:59not very much happening,
00:27:00not very quickly here
00:27:01at this ride.
00:27:02At least you could do
00:27:03is wave your arms around a lot
00:27:04and maybe, you know,
00:27:05have a bottle of Chianti.
00:27:06Come on, boys,
00:27:07you're supposed to be Italian race team.
00:27:08There should be shouting
00:27:09and things like that,
00:27:10shouldn't there?
00:27:10You know,
00:27:11and that's what I sort of thing.
00:27:12Compulsory gesticulation,
00:27:14maybe.
00:27:14Elio, Elio,
00:27:15and things like that.
00:27:16Now, I'm sure
00:27:16that they should be penalised
00:27:17for lack of compulsory gesticulation
00:27:20as the WR emerges
00:27:21from the garage behind them,
00:27:23car number 37.
00:27:24Has it been to sleep?
00:27:25Er,
00:27:26might as well have.
00:27:27I think so.
00:27:28It seems to have been
00:27:29a very long time.
00:27:30It is last but two
00:27:31if we assume,
00:27:33as I think we must,
00:27:35that the Jason entry
00:27:36has finally been prodded
00:27:37back out of the garage.
00:27:39Do you know,
00:27:39for all the excitement
00:27:40that Paul Jason
00:27:41was expressing
00:27:42over driving the car,
00:27:43that must be tempered
00:27:44with an awful lot
00:27:45of resentment
00:27:45that the darn thing
00:27:46refuses to allow him
00:27:47to drive it
00:27:48for very often
00:27:49or for very long.
00:27:50Yeah,
00:27:51the sad thing about it
00:27:52is actually,
00:27:54seemingly last year,
00:27:55he was more competitive
00:27:56with the car last year
00:27:57than this year.
00:27:58Hang on a minute,
00:27:59it is not going
00:27:59because it is still
00:28:00in the garage.
00:28:01The racing car
00:28:02is still in the garage.
00:28:03So it is in four laps
00:28:07going to be passed
00:28:07by this car,
00:28:08the Spiker,
00:28:09which is currently
00:28:10last of the things
00:28:11that is moving.
00:28:13Off goes your own
00:28:15Blake a moment.
00:28:15So he goes out
00:28:16having taken over
00:28:18from double stinting
00:28:18Tom Coronel.
00:28:20Well,
00:28:21for Spiker,
00:28:23it's been another
00:28:24long upwards battle,
00:28:25hasn't it?
00:28:25I remember a few years ago
00:28:27when they were unable
00:28:27to start.
00:28:29But it is nice now
00:28:30to see that they are
00:28:31getting the start.
00:28:32And that's a team,
00:28:33that's a company
00:28:34that has not found
00:28:36basically success easily.
00:28:41They've worked at it.
00:28:42But they really have
00:28:43worked at it
00:28:43and they're getting
00:28:44there slowly.
00:28:46Well,
00:28:46they are tiny
00:28:47in the way that,
00:28:48say,
00:28:48something like Morgan
00:28:49was tiny
00:28:49in that they really
00:28:51produce literally
00:28:52a handful of cars.
00:28:54And so they just
00:28:55don't have
00:28:56a massive budget.
00:28:57They don't have
00:28:57a magic sort of budget
00:28:59that a Corvette
00:29:00or a BMW
00:29:00or a Porsche
00:29:01or anybody else
00:29:02in the cars,
00:29:03really.
00:29:03Even Aston Martin Racing
00:29:05can put more money
00:29:06into their project
00:29:07than Spiker can
00:29:08because they sell
00:29:09more cars
00:29:09and make more profit
00:29:11and have got
00:29:11a bigger marketing budget.
00:29:12Yes,
00:29:13but don't forget
00:29:13they've moved into,
00:29:14I won't say
00:29:15math production,
00:29:16but a much larger
00:29:17production facility.
00:29:20Oh,
00:29:20Spiker or Aston Martin?
00:29:23Spiker.
00:29:23Well,
00:29:24nonetheless,
00:29:25it's going to take
00:29:26a few years
00:29:26of selling those cars
00:29:27to make the money up.
00:29:29And as you saw,
00:29:29the Spiker there
00:29:30being eaten alive
00:29:31by the number two
00:29:33Peugeot.
00:29:34Nick Minacion
00:29:35halfway through
00:29:36his stint,
00:29:37stint lapping
00:29:38very quickly indeed,
00:29:39still 3.24
00:29:41in the last lap,
00:29:42making sure
00:29:42work of the traffic
00:29:43as well.
00:29:44And this is really
00:29:45where all the hero work
00:29:46is done during
00:29:46the night time hours,
00:29:48not staying awake
00:29:49and driving the car,
00:29:50but driving the car
00:29:51fast and consistently
00:29:52and not losing ground
00:29:53and not losing laps
00:29:55and not putting it
00:29:56off the road
00:29:56and not hitting
00:29:57things and stuff.
00:29:59Yeah,
00:29:59I was talking a little
00:30:00bit earlier on to Liz
00:30:01when she was here,
00:30:02Liz Hamillet,
00:30:02about how much
00:30:04sort of spare
00:30:05thinking time
00:30:06has she got
00:30:06when she was driving
00:30:07because it's a factor
00:30:09that is something
00:30:10that's always
00:30:10interested me.
00:30:12But some drivers,
00:30:14their minds do wander,
00:30:16they almost get into,
00:30:17embracing drivers,
00:30:18into what I call
00:30:19a job situation
00:30:20where they're considering
00:30:22what they're going to do
00:30:23in 5 laps,
00:30:2510 laps
00:30:25or after the pit stop
00:30:26or after the tyres
00:30:27or what that sort of thing
00:30:28in long distance racing.
00:30:30And others find
00:30:31that they are
00:30:32basically having
00:30:33to make the effort
00:30:34all the time
00:30:35to check mirrors,
00:30:36to do this,
00:30:37to do that.
00:30:38She seemingly to me
00:30:39was saying that she fell
00:30:40more or less
00:30:41into that category
00:30:41and the real thing
00:30:42started with the conversation
00:30:43I had with one
00:30:44of our German colleagues
00:30:45and we both agreed
00:30:47that perhaps
00:30:49the biggest strength
00:30:49of a certain
00:30:50German driver
00:30:52at the moment
00:30:52in Grand Prix racing
00:30:53who I might tell you
00:30:54is having a pretty awful time
00:30:56in Canada
00:30:57is that he has
00:30:59this enormous
00:31:00mental capacity
00:31:01to do a number
00:31:03of things
00:31:03at the same time
00:31:04as well as
00:31:04drive competitively.
00:31:05Well that is the difference
00:31:08between the merely exceptional
00:31:09and the really truly great
00:31:11isn't it?
00:31:11The ability to pay
00:31:14no more attention
00:31:16to driving a Formula 1 car
00:31:17flat chat
00:31:18than you and I
00:31:18would pay to driving
00:31:19a car on the motorway
00:31:21and cruise control
00:31:21at 70 miles an hour
00:31:22and Schumacher's
00:31:24undoubted genius
00:31:26comes not just
00:31:27from his phenomenal
00:31:28car control
00:31:29which is possibly
00:31:30matched by
00:31:31a couple of other drivers
00:31:32and possibly currently
00:31:34now as well
00:31:35you know
00:31:35by a number more
00:31:36but it's the ability
00:31:38to do other things
00:31:39at the same time
00:31:40it's the
00:31:41you know
00:31:42rubbing your head
00:31:43and patting your tummy
00:31:44syndrome
00:31:44he can do
00:31:45he can do
00:31:46driving a car
00:31:47which most people
00:31:48can barely do
00:31:49with all their
00:31:50cognitive powers
00:31:51and then still
00:31:53outthink most of us
00:31:54as well
00:31:54at the same time
00:31:55and that's
00:31:56and that's exactly
00:31:57the case here
00:31:58with driving these cars
00:31:59the very best
00:32:00of the best
00:32:01they get into
00:32:02this rhythm in the car
00:32:03where it is
00:32:04I wouldn't say
00:32:05it's taking no effort
00:32:06at all
00:32:07but most of the effort
00:32:08that's going in
00:32:08is completely
00:32:10unconscious
00:32:11and that means
00:32:13that their ability
00:32:14to calculate
00:32:15gaps
00:32:15approach speeds
00:32:16in traffic
00:32:17and make the most
00:32:18of traffic
00:32:19and make sure
00:32:21they're held up
00:32:21less than other drivers
00:32:23that mental capacity
00:32:25still remains
00:32:25even though
00:32:26they're flat chatting
00:32:27these cars
00:32:28just the same
00:32:29as their rivals
00:32:30and that extra
00:32:31processing power
00:32:32between the ears
00:32:33is what makes
00:32:34the difference
00:32:34it is a genetic thing
00:32:36just like
00:32:37the best sprinters
00:32:38the best cycle riders
00:32:39the best weightlifters
00:32:40are all genetically
00:32:41predisposed
00:32:44whether or not
00:32:45they have any
00:32:46enhancement
00:32:46and whatever
00:32:49training
00:32:49you've got to be
00:32:50genetically predisposed
00:32:51and certainly
00:32:52racing drivers
00:32:53are genetically
00:32:54predisposed
00:32:55to have
00:32:55phenomenal computing
00:32:57speed between the ears
00:32:58and the better
00:32:58the computing speed
00:32:59like with all other
00:33:00things in life
00:33:01the better the result
00:33:02than that
00:33:02and that's clearly
00:33:03the case here
00:33:04there are some drivers
00:33:05who can just
00:33:07carve through traffic
00:33:08like it doesn't exist
00:33:09and others
00:33:10always seem to get
00:33:11the unlucky brakes
00:33:12and perhaps there is
00:33:14a degree in that
00:33:15where you make
00:33:16your own luck
00:33:17where your ability
00:33:19to make the judgments
00:33:20is entirely down
00:33:23to how much
00:33:25spare capacity
00:33:26you've got
00:33:26after you've finished
00:33:27driving the car
00:33:28and that's
00:33:29like in any other
00:33:30form of the sport
00:33:31it's probably
00:33:32one of the overriding
00:33:33differences
00:33:33between a driver
00:33:34who's really
00:33:35really good
00:33:36and a driver
00:33:36who's good once
00:33:38we're going to
00:33:41see this pit stop
00:33:42through
00:33:42Roman Dumas
00:33:43taking over the car
00:33:45and again
00:33:46in fact he's
00:33:47handing over the car
00:33:48isn't he
00:33:48he's just handed over
00:33:49the car that's in
00:33:50second place
00:33:50for Audi
00:33:51Nick Minassian
00:33:52leaves for Peugeot
00:33:53Audi in second
00:33:54as Mike Rockenfella
00:33:55heads out
00:33:55Andre Lotta
00:33:56in third place
00:33:58we'll be back
00:34:00in just a moment
00:34:015-3
00:34:07in the UK
00:34:085-4
00:34:09in Le Mans
00:34:10so hello to
00:34:11Gemma in the
00:34:11White Hart
00:34:12in Gainsborough
00:34:13the suggestion
00:34:14that another
00:34:15mention might
00:34:15perhaps bring forth
00:34:17a round of beers
00:34:17I think is
00:34:18particularly unworthy
00:34:19of the late
00:34:21drinkers in the bar
00:34:21so get your hand
00:34:22in your pocket
00:34:23and get some money
00:34:24across the counter
00:34:25if you want to drink
00:34:25another high five
00:34:27from the Corvette crew
00:34:28our GT2 leader
00:34:29has just rumbled
00:34:30back out
00:34:31from the pit road
00:34:32Ollie Gavin
00:34:33now at the wheel
00:34:33of the night
00:34:34the number 64 car
00:34:36in 18th place
00:34:37he is now
00:34:37not 19th place
00:34:38team mate
00:34:39Jan Magnusson
00:34:40in second place
00:34:40is in 19th place
00:34:42you're looking at
00:34:43the driver
00:34:44who's just stepped out
00:34:45of the second place
00:34:47to Audi
00:34:48car number 9
00:34:49Roman Dumas
00:34:50being debriefed
00:34:51by slightly calmer
00:34:53looking Dr Wolfgang
00:34:54always
00:34:54and when car number 7
00:34:57was helped off
00:34:58the course
00:34:59earlier on
00:34:59he's a bit happier
00:35:01isn't he
00:35:01at the moment
00:35:01just finishing
00:35:03off the story
00:35:03we were talking
00:35:04about a certain
00:35:05Mr. Schumacher
00:35:06who I have to tell
00:35:07you folks
00:35:08I've always liked
00:35:09to say that he is
00:35:10a remarkable driver
00:35:11but he's never been
00:35:12my favourite driver
00:35:13of his era
00:35:14one of the things
00:35:16that I was told
00:35:18about him
00:35:18going back now
00:35:19to the very early
00:35:20days in Formula 1
00:35:22he was driving
00:35:23in a race
00:35:24I'm not so sure
00:35:25it wasn't in Germany
00:35:26when he lost
00:35:26two gears
00:35:28and the reason
00:35:31why he wasn't
00:35:32any slower
00:35:33or very little slower
00:35:34than he had been
00:35:35when he'd got them
00:35:36was that he'd
00:35:37actually taken it
00:35:38on board
00:35:38and wasn't making
00:35:40the mistake of
00:35:41thinking
00:35:41what gear do I
00:35:42change into
00:35:43now
00:35:43he just automatically
00:35:44thought well
00:35:45that doesn't exist
00:35:46that doesn't exist
00:35:47I'm going to that
00:35:47that may well have
00:35:49been in Spain
00:35:49actually wasn't it
00:35:50when he still
00:35:51won from Damon Hill
00:35:52despite having
00:35:53a steering wheel change
00:35:54and then still
00:35:54not having the gears
00:35:55that he wanted
00:35:56and again
00:35:58that really
00:35:59is a mark
00:36:00of ability
00:36:01to adapt
00:36:02not just raw speed
00:36:03but the ability
00:36:04to think your way
00:36:05around the problem
00:36:06as well as
00:36:07just handle your way
00:36:08around the problem
00:36:08and good to see
00:36:11that the
00:36:11junkets
00:36:12in the White Hart
00:36:13have managed
00:36:14to get their hands
00:36:15their little arms
00:36:16into their very deep
00:36:17pockets
00:36:17so excellent stuff
00:36:19there
00:36:19so well done
00:36:20incidentally
00:36:21for staying up
00:36:22with them
00:36:22maybe should have
00:36:23gone home
00:36:23at one o'clock
00:36:24but they are
00:36:25in their own
00:36:26sad and sorry
00:36:27little way
00:36:28very grateful
00:36:28and they will
00:36:30I promise
00:36:30go to bed soon
00:36:31if they don't
00:36:32I'll send their dad
00:36:33round
00:36:33Nick Minassi
00:36:34I can't
00:36:34he's here
00:36:35Nick Minassi
00:36:36is still our race
00:36:38leader then
00:36:39but
00:36:40interestingly
00:36:41again
00:36:41as the pit stops
00:36:42cycle round
00:36:43we've now got
00:36:44Audi's second
00:36:45third and fourth
00:36:45car eight
00:36:46car nine
00:36:46and car seven
00:36:47and Alexander
00:36:48Boots
00:36:48having taken over
00:36:49that number one
00:36:50Peugeot
00:36:51from Anthony
00:36:51Davidson
00:36:52as the pit stops
00:36:53have cycled back
00:36:54he is now
00:36:55back down
00:36:56to fifth position
00:36:56and Tom Christensen
00:36:58is back up
00:36:59to fourth position
00:37:00this is that car
00:37:01the number seven
00:37:02Audi in fourth place
00:37:04and then we talked
00:37:05about this
00:37:05the way that
00:37:06often a clear night
00:37:07particularly after rain
00:37:08and there's often
00:37:09a lot of that
00:37:09around here
00:37:10then leads to
00:37:11a misty late night
00:37:13and into the early
00:37:13morning
00:37:14and certainly seeing
00:37:15a lot of that
00:37:16a lot of smoke
00:37:17there from the 75
00:37:18Porsche
00:37:19getting into
00:37:20she came
00:37:21very late
00:37:22in front of the Audi
00:37:23and Christensen
00:37:24having to take
00:37:25some serious
00:37:26avoiding action
00:37:27there
00:37:27to stop ramming
00:37:28him from behind
00:37:29yes he was smoked
00:37:30rather than mist
00:37:31and actually
00:37:31one of the reasons
00:37:32why I don't have
00:37:33been going to be
00:37:33cursed so much
00:37:34for his mist
00:37:34this morning
00:37:34is I'm looking
00:37:35at the flags
00:37:36and there's quite
00:37:37a bit of wind
00:37:38around
00:37:38so that might
00:37:42make life
00:37:43a little bit
00:37:44more
00:37:45a little bit
00:37:46easier in one way
00:37:47probably more
00:37:47different in another
00:37:48way
00:37:48the only problem
00:37:49is that there's
00:37:50an awful lot
00:37:51of trees around
00:37:52on the most
00:37:52on straight
00:37:53and around
00:37:54the public
00:37:54road parts
00:37:55of the course
00:37:55which is about
00:37:56three quarters
00:37:56of the race
00:37:57distance
00:37:57or the lap
00:37:58distance
00:37:58so unfortunately
00:38:00the trees
00:38:01block a lot
00:38:01of that breeze
00:38:02from blowing
00:38:03the mist
00:38:03away
00:38:03however
00:38:04race continues
00:38:06and you saw
00:38:08a rebellion
00:38:09crew member
00:38:09I'm pretty sure
00:38:10now that their
00:38:11cars are both
00:38:12out of it
00:38:13Neil Yarnley's
00:38:13car hasn't moved
00:38:14for about
00:38:1525-30 minutes
00:38:16BMW still have
00:38:17one of their
00:38:18cars in the
00:38:19race
00:38:20and the 75
00:38:21Porsche
00:38:22despite its
00:38:23best efforts
00:38:24has been
00:38:24persuaded to
00:38:26return to the
00:38:26track
00:38:27loads more
00:38:29racing to go
00:38:30we saw it
00:38:3111 hours of
00:38:32the race
00:38:33and unfortunately
00:38:34for Hugh and
00:38:35Bart Hayden
00:38:36that rebellion
00:38:36crew
00:38:37one of their
00:38:38cars did at
00:38:38least make it
00:38:39to half
00:38:40distance
00:38:40before it
00:38:42decided it
00:38:42had really
00:38:43had enough
00:38:43thank you very
00:38:44much
00:38:44and could it
00:38:44please go
00:38:45to bed
00:38:45so they
00:38:47have a late
00:38:48night
00:38:48and unfortunately
00:38:49for them
00:38:50no early
00:38:51morning and
00:38:51no lunchtime
00:38:52run up to
00:38:53the flag
00:38:54looks like
00:38:54they are out
00:38:55of the game
00:38:56both cars
00:38:56have gone
00:38:57number 13
00:38:58car has already
00:38:59been confirmed
00:39:00as a retirement
00:39:01and number 12
00:39:02car I'm sure
00:39:03they will
00:39:03officially post
00:39:04as an
00:39:05abandon
00:39:05for the
00:39:07non french
00:39:08speakers
00:39:08that does
00:39:09mean retirement
00:39:09in the not
00:39:11too distant
00:39:12future
00:39:12so we are
00:39:14now down
00:39:15effectively
00:39:15well the
00:39:16last car
00:39:17that looks
00:39:17like it's
00:39:18running
00:39:18is the
00:39:18spike of
00:39:19Sebastian
00:39:20Blake and
00:39:21Merlin
00:39:21which is
00:39:21in 40th
00:39:23place
00:39:24however
00:39:25Paul Drayson's
00:39:27Lola
00:39:28is still
00:39:29yep
00:39:30in the
00:39:31garage
00:39:32and going
00:39:33nowhere at
00:39:33the moment
00:39:34and in
00:39:35two laps
00:39:36now
00:39:36rather than
00:39:37four laps
00:39:37as it was
00:39:38Blake and
00:39:38Merlin
00:39:38Spiker
00:39:39will move
00:39:40in front
00:39:40of it
00:39:40into 39th
00:39:42and of
00:39:43course
00:39:43until the
00:39:45Drayson car
00:39:45fires up
00:39:46and moves
00:39:46again
00:39:47it can't
00:39:48take up
00:39:48a place
00:39:48from Neil
00:39:49Yarny
00:39:49so
00:39:50Blake and
00:39:51Merlin
00:39:51will move
00:39:52in a couple
00:39:52of laps
00:39:53for about
00:39:548 minutes
00:39:56and 20
00:39:57seconds
00:39:58for him
00:39:58give or
00:39:59take
00:40:00out of
00:40:01last
00:40:01place
00:40:02ahead of
00:40:03Paul Drayson
00:40:03so there's
00:40:04our running

00:41:39That is currently still being led by the Corvettes, 64 on the Gavine and 17th April,
00:41:49leader of GT2 and 63, Magnussen, 18th April and 2nd in GT2.
00:41:5519th April, which would lead the 3rd in GT2, 20th April, passing along the 4th of GT2.
00:42:01And there was a little bit of a bet going on with John Heimdorf among others.
00:42:07As to whether or not the GT2 winner would be ahead of the GT1 winner.
00:42:12But quite in the top 5 cars, the GT2 are ahead of the GT1 leader.
00:42:17And more are queuing at the class as well.
00:42:19So he has been for the conclusion.
00:42:21This car now will fill in GT1 still.
00:42:24Raymond Grosjean at the way will be made in court.
00:42:27And that is 7, 8 laps of the class lead as it comes in for what seems like a better train
00:42:36The car may be about to return.

00:42:50The car may be about to return.
00:42:52But nothing seems to happen.
00:42:54And I think there's a little bit of a concern about that car, Isis Secret.
00:42:56I can see a lot of water around.
00:42:57I suspect that that car may have a problem.
00:42:58The car may be about to return.
00:42:59The car may be about to return.

00:43:05And I think there's a little bit of a concern about that car, Isis Secret.
00:43:11So about that car, Isis Secret.
00:43:12I can't see a lot of water around.
00:43:13I don't like to see a lot of water around.
00:43:14I suspect that that car may have a problem.
00:43:21Shuttled, uh, I'm moving it over to the other way.
00:43:30Yeah, I'm moving it home and it's going the other way, but there's nothing's happening.
00:43:40And for the first few days to succeed, that doesn't look too good to me.
00:43:46You can all look at the image and say what's happening, I can't understand it, but the better
00:43:50is that you're not going so far right now.
00:43:52The other are currently the quickest of the Audis in the 3.23, which is about a quarter-thousand
00:44:03I guess, and looking as if he's recovering everywhere which way, but there is usually
00:44:14any people away in the Gaurav.
00:44:17Which I think is going to do actually about a couple of days ago, and they had a lot of
00:44:23accidents that kind of damage.
00:44:26During the first practice on Wednesday, for those of you who weren't here, it went on backwards
00:44:33at a fair velocity, and there was a good grief that went on in land.
00:49:11I want to share a little bit. I always come and see my camera for what we've been doing now for some years.
00:49:20The Raspberry Pi is going to be over this this year, and my own potential soon, because I know that this is called another Raspberry Pi.
00:49:31I've been going to DB9 and the screen on that.
00:49:35We're coming up towards the end of...
00:49:39We've just finished the other, so we're in fact, we're going into the second half of the way, so.
00:49:44And it's still pretty wide open as far as I can see.
00:49:49I think it's still exciting to come, and of course there's light to come in not very much longer time.
00:49:54And we are going to be seeing this now going on right to the very end of this one, I am quite sure.
00:50:01Join us again shortly after the break.
00:50:05Welcome back to the mall.
00:50:09Welcome back to what is the last, I suppose,
00:50:15a couple of hours are dark. It's going to start to get by for an hour after the last time,
00:50:21and we shall then see whether a number of rig of the morning has the fact that it's been a fascinating way.
00:50:27And it's no good saying to any of you sitting at home,
00:50:31or if you're standing up to listen to us, that this has been a riveting race from the point of view of a wheel-to-wheel battle.
00:50:39It hasn't, but it's been a riveting race from the point of view of, it's almost like a game of poker,
00:50:47because it's been going on right away from the very start of practice of qualifying into the pace itself.
00:50:55It is clear to reiterate what you said already.
00:50:59The actual pace was Persia, but the action was with Audi,
00:51:05and they could and did force that place.
00:51:09We've now got the NASDAQ in 223 dropped back.
00:51:15That's the wheel, which is even out of 224.
00:51:19So this is a kind of safe turn,
00:51:21and then we've got to go around the red school.
00:51:24That's a remarkable recovery.
00:51:25That car really has to have a bit more long to do in this.
00:51:30All that's as it looks at the moment from year three.
00:51:33On the delirium, big five, it's a really good comeback.
00:51:36Hasn't even been with someone.
00:51:39And I'm not quite sure.
00:51:42I presume he's visited some driving X-car at the moment.
00:51:45I didn't check after the 6th.
00:51:47I just wish to shout out.
00:51:49Even as stupid I can think.
00:51:50No, he certainly looks like Tom.
00:51:52Yeah.
00:51:53And again, he's struck back down to fifth place.
00:51:57As the pit stops are side to the ground,
00:51:59he's made his stop set out.
00:52:00Wentz has come back back to fourth.
00:52:02Yeah.
00:52:03So there can't be more than 30 or 40 seconds.
00:52:05In either direction between the two of them,
00:52:08see Hideki Nodar receiving last minute instructions
00:52:11before he gets shuffled back into the car
00:52:13for the middle of the night,
00:52:14and puts you in a motorcycle.
00:52:15He only once saw that weather that everybody said
00:52:19was going to be a bit hippy in the morning.
00:52:23And I don't think it is actually.
00:52:24I personally think that this is going to be all right
00:52:26until probably the very end of the race.
00:52:28I'll tell you what, I'll get a surprise.
00:52:30Rain now would be a real, right royal pain for the Jack.
00:52:33Yes, he would be a kind of pain in the neck, wouldn't it?
00:52:36Definitely.
00:52:37And it is, let's not forget,
00:52:39quarter past four in the morning across central Europe,
00:52:42quarter past three in the UK.
00:52:44Probably means it's almost a lunchtime somewhere.
00:52:46I've just had a little lion bar break.
00:52:48Yum as a yum, yum, yum.
00:52:50About the only thing I think is at the moment,
00:52:52and they're going down quite nicely.
00:52:54But, interesting that only three cars in the top half dozen,
00:52:59all the expected front-running diesel cars,
00:53:01have had no major drama.
00:53:03So that is our leader, Nick Manassian's number two,
00:53:05Peugeot.
00:53:06And then the two Audis that are giving chase,
00:53:08relentlessly still,
00:53:10Mike Rottenfield has nine car at the moment.
00:53:12Maldiolato, county of the eight car.
00:53:15And behind them,
00:53:16Alexander Blutz, one.
00:53:18He's in fourth place in that Peugeot.
00:53:20Blutz climbed up the order,
00:53:21and took the lead,
00:53:22when, uh,
00:53:24and Sedocin was at the wheel of it,
00:53:26and then very quickly
00:53:28lost it again.
00:53:29Well, not that quickly, I suppose,
00:53:30within and out,
00:53:31lost it again,
00:53:32because,
00:53:33they had an electrical problem with the car,
00:53:35which, uh,
00:53:36uh,
00:53:37Olivia Cannell, in fact,
00:53:38knows as a starter motor problem,
00:53:39but, uh,
00:53:40they would say,
00:53:41everybody, uh,
00:53:42the meter,
00:53:43what kind of things,
00:53:44have to have the lights on,
00:53:45which is,
00:53:46and we've got a starter motor sort of problem,
00:53:47it's, uh,
00:53:48a,
00:53:49electrical,
00:53:50peeking out of somewhere else,
00:53:51and the problem.
00:53:52Uh,
00:53:53took the car out of the vehicle,
00:53:55the car,
00:53:56the car,
00:53:57the car,
00:53:58the car,
00:53:59as we will,
00:54:00there,
00:54:01uh,
00:54:0228,
00:54:0312,
00:54:04uh,
00:54:052,
00:54:064,
00:54:075,
00:54:086,
00:54:097,
00:54:108,
00:54:11a little bit of a trot from the back of the pits,
00:54:13don't you?
00:54:14It's quite remarkable.
00:54:15He wasn't standing there being consulted.
00:54:16He just sort of ran in and left to the car.
00:54:18We saw him being chatted to a moment or two ago,
00:54:20but when Jonathan got out,
00:54:21he let it in.
00:54:22He just got to be standing behind the line before the car comes in.
00:54:24Uh,
00:54:25uh,
00:54:26Jonathan Kennard,
00:54:27uh,
00:54:28like Sam Hancock,
00:54:29another,
00:54:30former commentating colleague of mine,
00:54:32who very quickly decided that sitting next to me,
00:54:34whiffling on,
00:54:35was a very bad way of spending a life,
00:54:37and went out and got yourself a proper drive instead.
00:54:39I'd like to see,
00:54:40um,
00:54:41both Jonathan Kennard,
00:54:42and Sam Hancock,
00:54:43in,
00:54:44uh,
00:54:45good drives here.
00:54:46Uh,
00:54:47and long way they continue into the morning.
00:54:49Keep all the KS,
00:54:50uh,
00:54:51uh,
00:54:52uh,
00:54:53uh,
00:54:54uh,
00:54:55not keep all the KSM,
00:54:56uh,
00:54:57Crucial Motorsport car,
00:54:58Jonathan,
00:54:59Shannon,
00:55:00and Jean de Portales.
00:55:01As meanwhile,
00:55:02our race leader is on pit road,
00:55:03and, uh,
00:55:04this is,
00:55:05uh,
00:55:06flurry of pit stops time.
00:55:07Nick Minacion,
00:55:08our race leader is in,
00:55:09for stop 17.
00:55:10Uh,
00:55:11in at the same time,
00:55:12007,
00:55:13Harold Premat,
00:55:14and 15,
00:55:15Christian Bakarud.
00:55:16They are,
00:55:17the 007 loader Aston Martin,
00:55:19the gold colour car,
00:55:20once a pair,
00:55:21that's in seven,
00:55:22it's team 18 in eight.
00:55:23And,
00:55:24nice place,
00:55:25Christian Bakarud.
00:55:26Bakarud's gone already,
00:55:27up the road there,
00:55:28to Nick Minacion.
00:55:30And,
00:55:31in front of him,
00:55:32Slotty,
00:55:33going to bow,
00:55:35in,
00:55:36the number four,
00:55:37of Peugeot,
00:55:38which is four laps down,
00:55:41and just,
00:55:42that's it,
00:55:43just unlapped itself,
00:55:44there,
00:55:45this is Peugeot number four,
00:55:46just unlapped itself,
00:55:47it's been three laps,
00:55:48and about three and a half minutes down,
00:55:50and it might well have done,
00:55:51whether it stays in front of course,
00:55:53an entirely different thing,
00:55:54behind it.
00:55:56You could say that's the RML car,
00:55:58that's it,
00:55:59that's it,
00:56:00that's it,
00:56:01that's it,
00:56:02going on there.
00:56:03Well,
00:56:04you see,
00:56:05now,
00:56:06Paul Choswell has this theory,
00:56:07that regular,
00:56:08radio modern listeners will certainly know,
00:56:10that,
00:56:11during the night,
00:56:12and particularly during the wet,
00:56:13dark night,
00:56:14as if there was any other type of light,
00:56:16there is other type of light,
00:56:17here in the world,
00:56:18there is not very dark night,
00:56:19but there is wet,
00:56:20dark night,
00:56:21particularly,
00:56:22and such a theory,
00:56:23or that's what it is,
00:56:24is that,
00:56:25cars are magnetically affecting each other,
00:56:27in the dark and the wet,
00:56:29and so you get tons of cars,
00:56:30all so crazy,
00:56:31at maybe the same space.
00:56:33Obviously,
00:56:34there is no scientific basis for it,
00:56:35and it is out of nonsense.
00:56:37But,
00:56:38despite the fact that there is no scientific basis for it,
00:56:41and it is out of nonsense,
00:56:42you look at that,
00:56:43and there are always clumps of cars,
00:56:45instead of just a sort of string of them.
00:56:47It's a computer specialist extension of our community.
00:56:51Governance is what it is,
00:56:53but it is a humorous,
00:56:54in the middle of the month,
00:56:55filling out time kind of a theory.
00:56:57Car number 28,
00:56:59again,
00:57:00improving recalcitrant,
00:57:01this is Ralph Mike tricking the wheel,
00:57:03and at the moment,
00:57:04he began Cup Extra,
00:57:06and he is put back into the garage.
00:57:09And this, of course,
00:57:10was entry number 56,
00:57:12which is why I haven't been written down anywhere,
00:57:14on my super duper bits of entries.
00:57:19And,
00:57:20this is the one he shares with Mark Rostan,
00:57:22and Pierre Bruno,
00:57:23Pierre Bruno's car.
00:57:25Uh,
00:57:26assuming it was the last reserve on the list,
00:57:29and the ACA having built a new pit,
00:57:32especially for next year,
00:57:34actually managed to get a French entry,
00:57:36and for this year as well,
00:57:37right?
00:57:38How surprising.
00:57:39Very little surprises you,
00:57:41about the French,
00:57:42and the clock.
00:57:45Which means,
00:57:46everything always surprises you,
00:57:47about the French,
00:57:48but it gives the information,
00:57:49and those that are always surprised,
00:57:50that my tree is out there,
00:57:51with you,
00:57:52under the nose there,
00:57:53such as Ivan Fibas,
00:57:55or Prince,
00:57:56usually.
00:57:57Usually they're trying to get,
00:57:58a fast fit collector,
00:58:00back in,
00:58:01thank you,
00:58:02rotter,
00:58:03thank you,
00:58:04I mean,
00:58:05in fact,
00:58:06that,
00:58:07they were trying to get the fast fit collector,
00:58:08off,
00:58:09yes,
00:58:10it wasn't coming off,
00:58:11and now go into the foot box,
00:58:13and the pedal box there,
00:58:14suggests the pedals,
00:58:15with some reds,
00:58:16suggest some brake,
00:58:17and more clutch,
00:58:18you normally,
00:58:20when you get the,
00:58:21the crash structure,
00:58:22on the front there,
00:58:23see,
00:58:24three reservoirs,
00:58:25two,
00:58:26four brakes,
00:58:27and one,
00:58:28for the clutch,
00:58:29and they are now,
00:58:30going to take the,
00:58:32crash structure off,
00:58:33so,
00:58:34I'm suggesting,
00:58:35we've got a driver there,
00:58:36who's not wildly happy,
00:58:38with the long brake pedal,
00:58:39and these speeds,
00:58:41I'm not sure,
00:58:42I'd be quite happy,
00:58:43with the long brake pedal,
00:58:44either,
00:58:45either that,
00:58:46or the front suspension,
00:58:47he's unhappy with,
00:58:48I'm not quite sure which,
00:58:49I think they've been,
00:58:50wobbling into mounting it,
00:58:51to start with,
00:58:52I'm,
00:58:53I'm suggesting,
00:58:54something moral,
00:58:55in regards to that machinery,
00:58:56that tends to be there,
00:58:57right in front of the feet,
00:58:58things,
00:58:59what feet stand on,
00:59:00we were just looking at 89,
00:59:02a Hancock Ferrari,
00:59:04that is,
00:59:05still,
00:59:06climbing,
00:59:0720 minutes away,
00:59:08that is now,
00:59:09in place,
00:59:10in the GT2 cars,
00:59:11coming past,
00:59:12the Ferrari,
00:59:13taking the Rielander,
00:59:14and after that,
00:59:15chasing Pat Long's car,
00:59:17and,
00:59:18it is,
00:59:19always proposed,
00:59:20three minutes behind,
00:59:22the 76 Porsche,
00:59:24which is,
00:59:25the international car,
00:59:27so they may be,
00:59:28battle joints there,
00:59:29in London,
00:59:30top three,
00:59:31in the GT2 cars,
00:59:32still the Corvette,
00:59:33on the gallon leads,
00:59:34in the GT2 cars,
00:59:35in the GT2 cars,
00:59:36in the GT2 cars,
00:59:37in the GT2 cars,
00:59:38in the GT2 cars,
00:59:39in the GT2 cars,
00:59:40in the GT2 cars,
00:59:41coming down,
00:59:42your show,
00:59:43my timing and scoring,
