00:00Hey guys, welcome back to Uniparises. Once again, this is your host, Enervima, and in today's video, I'm gonna be doing another movie review. It's been a while since I've actually reviewed any movies because I mostly haven't really come to watch any movies.
00:17I've been thinking of what if I should actually review old movies and post them on my channel, because there's a lot of, you know, really good movies that have come out in the past that should be talked about.
00:31I don't know, let me know in the comment section below if you want to see me review old movies, but I'm today should be talking about Sonic the Hedgehog.
00:39Alright, no, I've seen this movie about quite a couple of days ago, actually. Not gonna lie, um, the thing is, I decided, you know, to, like, rest for a few days, you know, to, um, think about it.
00:56Um, instead of, you know, trying to just record my thoughts, like, hours after I see the movie, um, I won't, like, you know, really think about it.
01:08Which is kind of funny to think about, like, um, it's, it's a movie about Sonic, you know, a video game character. It doesn't really have to be much thought put into it.
01:19Um, but, with this movie in particular, there was a lot riding for it, you know, from the first trailer with the terrible design, all the way down to the director responding to the backlash, you know, postponing the movie, then the second trailer coming up, and, you know, winning over everyone's, you know, approval.
01:45Two, now recently, we, with Birds of Prey, and this whole debacle of Birds of Prey fans fight inside the Hedgehog fans, or something like that, I'm not sure.
01:57But, there seems to be some sort of, like, you know, fanboyism-ish war going on, and I, for the most part, I don't really understand, because Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game character that's for, like, you know, kids, you know, well, basically families all ages, right?
02:15Because, that's how he made his name, and it is also a name. All of the people who played Sonic in the 90s, they're basically adults now, but children.
02:24So, it's a family movie, to say the least. And, for, you know, Birds of Prey fans, you know, a movie that should have been pitched to them in my opinion, but it's R-rated, it's marketed towards the older audience.
02:38So, for them to actually be fighting, like, these two movies, you know, in competition with each other, is absurd. I mean, yeah, I know they, there are some instances where you can probably compare them that are the same budget or something, but that won't really make them, like, in competing with each other, you know, they're aiming towards different fanbases.
03:01But, anyways, outside of that, you know, getting to my actual thoughts of the movie, I would say this is a pretty fun time. I'm not gonna lie, I think this was a much more enjoyable, much more fun movie than, you know, other video game movies that I've seen.
03:26Like, like, Rampage, and Tomb Raider, Warcraft, you know, and those others. Because, um, the main thing I will say, is that, the guy who did this movie, Jeff Fowler, he and his crew, really understands, you know, the dynamic of Sonic, you know, what makes him special, why we, as, you know, gamers, going to like him.
03:52There's a lot of, there's a lot of, pretty interesting stuff they did with the, you know, the, from the video game, with, you know, him collecting the rings, they're being able to use those portals.
04:02That's a pretty interesting, you know, concept they came up with. And, um, he, you know, he jumps up a portal, he jumps in, he can build a chapter of different worlds, you know.
04:12I really like that aspect of the movie. And, I like the fact that they, they sort of, like, you know, write in a written story form.
04:19And, um, he had a owl, who raised him, on his, will. And, and how they set up the other characters. And, you know, they do all these things, these, really cool things to, you know, set up the stuff that you remember from the video game.
04:40And, um, even, like, these, you know, Knuckles characters, even Tails characters, that was in the end credits. Um, I like the fact that they, they're keeping them for the sequel, you know, focus on Sonic now.
04:53And then, you set those guys up afterwards, after you establish your, you know, your whole foundation.
05:02And, I know there are certain things that are faulty, um, the script is a bit wonky. You know, um, you can easily take it apart.
05:12But, you know, because of the whole movie logic sort of thing, you know, um, things that happen that require you to sort of, like, take a leap of faith.
05:21To, um, just go along with it, to say. And not really question it that much, or look into it that much.
05:28Um, and after all, at the end of the day, it's a video game adaptation. So, it doesn't even make sense to look into it that much.
05:37Especially when it's Sonic, of all the video game characters. Um, yeah.
05:41I like the most. I say Jim Kai was pretty much the strongest aspect in this movie, his performance as Eggman Robotnik.
05:49He really does his, you know, his Jim Carrey stuff that you remember from the 90s, early 2000s.
05:58All and that is channel here in the movie. And sure, it's not the Robotnik that you remember from the video game.
06:04Because this is sort of like the introduction to his character. Um, you see towards the end of the movie, he actually starts to look like Robotnik.
06:12Like, yeah. And it sort of sets up him being able to come back in the sequel.
06:19Because, you know, he's X-Men's main villain. So, I really like the fact that they, they didn't try to rush anything much here with the character.
06:28To just, you know, hey, let's just have this. And let's just lead to this. And let's just, you know, just, um, take it one step at a time.
06:39And I will say, the biggest aspect about this movie is the CGI. Like, how Sonic is really looks like the Sonic from, you know, games, the movies, TV shows.
06:51The CGI is, it's, you know, it's those type of CGI that you know is really CGI if I'm looking at it. Um, it's quite obvious.
07:03It isn't like really bad like some other big budget movies that you can't look at. But it's, it's pretty CGI-ish.
07:13And the cool thing about it though is that it's all shot and edited, directed really well.
07:23It has a lot of energy and, you know, personality in the action sequences when everything is going down.
07:31And it looks really cool. They do a lot of cool stuff with the, um, action.
07:35So, I really admire that part of them, you know, how they handle that part of the movie.
07:41Overall, the movie, it's probably the strongest adaptation of a video game that I've seen to date.
07:50It has the personality and it has the, the sort of, you know, the, the faithfulness to the character that you, you want, you expect to see in these sort of video game movie adaptations.
08:06It's something that Tomb Raider, you know, Rampage and a lot of these other movies hasn't really had.
08:13I mean, so you can probably look at them and you can say, oh, these, that's a movie that you can tell was made by people in Hollywood.
08:21You know, and they're just trying to capitalize. I mean, not that they just want to do it for a quick cash grab, but they're trying to make a movie.
08:33But with Sonic, you can tell the creators were trying to make a movie that was faithful to the source material, like in that source sense.
08:46So, I'll sum it up to say overall, I'll probably give this movie a 7.8-ish out of 10.
08:58So, um, it's not really as great as some people are making it out to be.
09:05And it's not really as bad as a lot of people are strashing it as, but it's, it's good. It's really good.
09:12You know, and I think in this day and age, it might seem a bit, being in the mid-range, it may seem like it's no progress.
09:23But, let's be fair here, compared to what we were getting like over a decade ago in terms of live actions of video games, right, on the big screen, I'd say this is a pretty strong step in the right direction.
09:41And it really shows how much progress Hollywood, well, the directors and the writers are starting to make, you know, since Detective Pikachu or even Rampage itself.
09:56Right? So, I mean, anyways guys, um, let me know what you think in the comment section down below.
10:01Did you like Sonic the Hedgehog? Did you hate it? Do you, do you care about it as much?
