Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) – A 30-year-old engineer, identified as Gaurav Savanni, ended his life by jumping in front of a train in the Civil Lines police station area on Saturday evening (27.09.2025). Police said he had been under severe mental stress after being accused of rape by a woman with whom he had been in a relationship.
Gaurav, son of retired food inspector Ashok Savanni and a resident of Saket Apartments near Agrasen Chowk, had earlier worked at a private institute in Delhi. While in Delhi, he developed a relationship with a woman who later filed a rape complaint against him. Following this, he was arrested and sent to jail. He was released on bail just 15 days ago and had since been staying with his family in Bilaspur.
According to police, a suicide note was found written on his mobile phone, which also mentioned the woman’s name. His family discovered the note after he went missing on Saturday evening. Later that night, his body was recovered from the Uslapur railway track.
Police have seized the mobile phone and registered a case. The body was sent for post-mortem on Sunday. Investigations are underway.
