Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand – The body of journalist Rajeev Pratap, 36, founder of the YouTube news platform Delhi Uttarakhand Live, was recovered from the Joshiyara Barrage on September 28, 2025, ten days after he went missing. Pratap had recently reported on alleged irregularities at a district hospital and a school, which reportedly led to threats against him.

His wife, Muskan, said he had expressed anxiety over the threats and was last in contact with her around 11 p.m. on September 18. She suspects abduction after his car was found abandoned near the Bhagirathi River the following morning. While police have suggested an accidental fall into the river, the family has filed an FIR under Section 140(3) of the IPC for kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person. The postmortem report is awaited.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over Pratap’s death and ordered a thorough and impartial investigation. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has also called for a credible inquiry.

Pratap’s death has sparked widespread concern, with the media fraternity and public demanding justice.
