00:00Injuries for the game, we've got Jordan Watkins out, C.J. West out,
00:04Renardo Green questionable, Juwan Jennings questionable,
00:07Mack Jones questionable, Connor Colby questionable,
00:09Ricky Purcell questionable.
00:11Go ahead.
00:12That Brock will start.
00:14Now, back to Will and Divi on 95.7 The Game.
00:18All right, we'll play you more shanny-hanny here in just a sec,
00:25but that's the development.
00:28And two things that catch my attention, Brock Purdy is in,
00:32yet they will not fully say yet that Ricky Purcell is in.
00:38I think he's expected to be in.
00:40He practiced yesterday.
00:41He practiced today.
00:43But at the same time, I did not like seeing his name on the questionable list.
00:48Never do.
00:49And Connor Colby also on that same list.
00:53And as you go through, and Juwan Jennings,
00:55and, you know, you start to pick through the names
00:57and who they already know they won't have, Kittle and Bosa.
01:01You don't have Kittle.
01:03You don't have Bosa.
01:04And, yeah, you've got Brock Purdy back.
01:06Great.
01:06And you've got McCaffrey.
01:08You know, count on 25 to 30 touches for all of you team bubble wrap.
01:13Just get ready for that because you're going to use him and use him
01:17and use him up as much as you can without Kittle especially.
01:20Yep, yep.
01:21I mean, look, the bottom line on all of this stuff,
01:24because I know there were – like, I'm sure you heard it too.
01:28There's people all week, certainly all day.
01:30Hey, just give Mack another game.
01:32And maybe that's the anxiety that surrounds next Thursday's game.
01:38So I understand it.
01:40I really do.
01:41For me, it comes from the exact same tree as what you just brought up,
01:45Christian McCaffrey's touches.
01:47And I talk – I've mentioned this to you a lot.
01:50I really understand from the fan perspective why it feels the way it does.
01:54It's just uncomfortable, especially for a fan base that is constantly bombarded,
02:00it feels, with major injuries.
02:03But the bottom line is, is at a certain point, one way or another,
02:07you have to have the stomach for this.
02:09And, like, you can't – you cannot protect football players.
02:15You just can't.
02:16Nope.
02:16You can't protect him.
02:18So is Brock in perfect shape this week?
02:20I have no idea.
02:21I have no idea.
02:22But he's good enough.
02:24And this game matters too.
02:27And he might even be the healthiest quarterback that they've got right now.
02:32And for those of you, I've seen this one too.
02:34Oh, let Martinez go out there and do it.
02:36Come on.
02:36What are we doing?
02:38You don't even know who that is.
02:40You have no clue what he looks like.
02:42Come on.
02:42If you do want to think of anything that matters in the preseason,
02:47I will remind you that if Brock Purdy –
02:50No, come on.
02:51No, Cheryl, for real.
02:52If you remember the preseason, when Brock and Mack were not on the field for the 49ers,
02:59the ball did not move, period.
03:04They could not move the ball.
03:05So I don't know where this concept of like, let's protect Purdy –
03:11I don't even really know where it comes from.
03:14I have been anxious as all get out from the moment he left to get him back on the field.
03:19People go, hey, what about Mack?
03:21Mack was very good.
03:22Yeah.
03:23For what he was asked to do.
03:26Which is win games.
03:27Yes.
03:28And he did.
03:28He did.
03:29And so, okay, you've solidified yourself as a high-level backup.
03:34You have positioned yourself nicely.
03:36And most importantly, you did your job.
03:38And that job may be asked of you again.
03:41But if anybody came out of those last two games feeling like the Niners could just go win the division with Mack Jones,
03:47I think you're crazy.
03:49That's just me.
03:50I mean, you never know who else is going to be out there and who else won't be out there.
03:55And so, yeah, Brock Purdy starts on Sunday.
03:58And that doesn't mean that he could be in jeopardy of Thursday.
04:02You could have him sit on Sunday and he can come out on Thursday.
04:05And on the first snap, he could stub his toe and he could be out for four to six weeks.
04:09You just never know.
04:11And I always think about this with what you talked about in terms of Christian McCaffrey.
04:15So McCaffrey and his touches, and we all want to bubble wrap him.
04:18What if you knew that after a touch 250 that McCaffrey's season would be over?
04:24So you have, I think he's what, 77 in or 78 touches, I think, into the year.
04:31And so if you knew full well that you only had 172 more touches, how would you use them?
04:37Would you wait until the end of the year?
04:39Would you go eight or nine a game?
04:41Would you use them all now and try to bank as many wins as you could and then, you know, hold off?
04:47It all depends on how you approach football.
04:49And I know this about Shanahan.
04:51He doesn't know how long anybody's going to be able to play.
04:54But he looks at this game on Sunday and he says, Brock's better than Mack.
04:58Brock is healthy-ish.
05:01Mack is healthy-ish, whatever.
05:03Brock, you play.
05:04And McCaffrey, I know we've used you a lot.
05:06But, man, you're really good and you help us win, so we may have 35 touches for you.
05:12And if on the 35th touch something bad happens, well, we can live with it because we're trying to win this game.
05:19And that's the way football works.
05:216-5-0, Boxer and Gerson, work injury attorney's text line.
05:24What if Martinez is Brock Purdy 2.0?
05:27What if?
05:29That's a fun phrase.
05:30Well, he's allowed to be.
05:31What if?
05:31I mean, as Kyle Shanahan, like, what if we're all – what if none of us make it to Sunday?
05:37I mean, yeah, he's allowed to be.
05:40But what if?
05:41I don't know.
05:42I guess my question would be, like, why are we even trying to find that out?
05:47I mean, sure.
05:49I guess.
05:50Maybe he could be undervalued.
05:52Maybe he's a good player.
05:53It's just funny to me.
05:54Sometimes I feel like the 49er fan base, I think a lot of people in this fan base are over-tinkerers.
06:02And maybe that is because of where we've come from in the Kyle Shanahan era, where Jimmy Garoppolo was a successful quarterback, even though not a sparkly, shiny type of a quarterback.
06:15And then you had this Mr. Irrelevant turn into somebody who could take you to a Super Bowl.
06:21So we've got this concept of, like, ooh, what else could we find?
06:25And it's almost like the Farhan Zaiting of the 49ers.
06:30Like, why do you want to all find diamonds in the rough?
06:34I'm not on that search.
06:36You found your diamond.
06:38Some people are never going to feel like it's a diamond.
06:41That's fine.
06:41I don't really care about that.
06:43But you found your diamond.
06:44Let's stop searching for the diamonds in the rough.
06:48Let's play ball.
06:49Let's play ball.
06:50Let's play with the diamonds that we have in the safe.
06:53Yeah.
06:53And I look at it this way.
06:54Y'all want Trey Hendrickson?
06:55You better keep winning.
06:57These games are really important.
06:59What the 49ers do with the trade deadline is going to be based on a cost-benefit analysis of how important this season becomes.
07:08What they feel like they can achieve with this season.
07:11See, I don't think you have to win to get to that spot.
07:14And I'm thinking about the McCaffrey year where you were 4-4 when you acquired him.
07:19And you got to that spot.
07:20You thought you were good.
07:21And you had one glaring need.
07:23And you filled it.
07:24So I don't think you have to be 7-1 or 8-0 and get to that spot.
07:29Not that high.
07:30I think it's more about who you have healthy and where are you as a team.
07:34And what are you lacking?
07:35So you might be 5-3 at the deadline.
07:38And, you know, Brock Purdy's been good.
07:40But the one thing that you really can't do since you lost Bosa is rush the passer.
07:45And so if you get to that spot and everything else has been really mostly good and you get to that spot,
07:50well then, yeah, you fill that one need.
07:53So for me it's less about the record and it's more about where are you in terms of what your one need is right now.
07:59Yeah, I'm not saying they need to win them all.
08:01Like you mentioned, they're 5-3.
08:025-3 is still very much in the whole thing.
08:05And you look at each year is a little different based on the framework of the NFC and how accessible it is and all of that.
08:12But you've got six more games until the deadline.
08:14If you lose them all, I'm not going after Trey Hendrickson.
08:17Fine.
08:18I'm not doing that.
08:19Agreed.
08:19You know what I mean?
08:203-6 is different.
08:21Yeah, it is.
08:22But that's, I mean, these games, look, they're not as important as division games.
08:26They're maybe not as important as December games.
08:30Let me tell you what I love, love, love about the NFL.
08:33They're all really important.
08:36They all count the same.
08:37All of them.
08:38All of them.
08:39But this might be the, outside of the Tennessee game in December, this might be the least important game on your schedule.
08:46I get what you're saying.
08:47You're talking because it's non-division, because it's non-conference.
08:51And, I mean, it's a home game.
08:53Home game.
08:53But as I've told you before, if you look at Shanahan's career, they're almost exactly the same team, home and road, throughout the course of his career.
09:03Kyle Shanahan.
09:04They are the same team, both here in Santa Clara and on the road.
09:09But this one's non-conference, and it's against a team that I think is pretty good.
09:14And so, yeah, it's important.
09:16But the Ram game's more important.
09:18And Arizona again, and Seattle again, and the Rams again.
09:21Those are all more important.
09:22888-957-9570.
09:24We'll play the Shanahan for you in a second.
09:26Let's get to some phone calls.
09:27Plaxico Burris joins us at 315.
09:30Tony in Oakland, first up.
09:31Hi, Tony.
09:32Thanks for the call.
09:33What's up?
09:34Yeah, you can know, and how a person's going to do.
09:38And how you know is, you know, you've got to be one.
09:41If you're a natural yourself, or if you've ever gotten in, you can feel the potential, both in Brock and Mack.
09:49Because especially, you know, Mack's out there now.
09:52But what that dude, the way he said it, you know, he gets in the rhythm, and he lets it fly.
09:58And it's the way that he says it.
10:00It's when, you know, you're of, you know, the God keep within.
10:05I know we don't usually like to speak about God.
10:08But when you get into the mix with it within, and you couple with it, and you're of its will, then you have the potential to do anything.
10:17And that's what those two boys have out there.
10:20It's pretty amazing.
10:22You know, we have a bunch of them on the team.
10:25The only, and now, you know, is Shanahan, you know, he's the one that lets us down.
10:30Because I don't think he's ever gotten in his own.
10:33But right now, we have these, we have a quarterback and we have a backup that are through the roof.
10:39And I think we can go all the way again.
10:41The only person that gets in our way is Shanahan.
10:45Because he's never really felt it.
10:47He can't really see it in another, but at least he's letting the ball fly because, you know, he's going with the, you know, with the air game right now.
10:55So, I think we could go all the way.
10:58Tony, I'm trying to figure out how the quarterbacks are awesome.
11:01But apparently, Kyle Shanahan lets him down.
11:04Like, doesn't the quarterback play?
11:06Isn't it on some level reflective of some things that Kyle's doing?
11:10Oh, well, yeah.
11:12I mean, you know, he has a little bit of a plan.
11:14But, you know, we know that he's not really of it or we would have had that Super Bowl because, you know, you get battlefield sense of the moment.
11:23And when Mahomes was coming up next and in overtime, he just, you know, he went for the field goal.
11:30Rather than be of the moment and know, well, Mahomes coming up next, we got to let, we got to go for it.
11:37He just doesn't have that.
11:38And how you know is when a person gets afraid, they can't think inside of the box, right?
11:45They're like crumbling looking at his notes on the sideline.
11:49But he's doing all right.
11:51I think Lynch is pretty good because he was a player himself could get in.
11:55And he's the one that sort of picks him and maybe, you know, he gets him and then Shanahan tries to do his little, you know, thing.
12:05But, you know, I think these guys could perform like the snake, the way he was for the Raiders, right?
12:11They don't even need Shanahan.
12:13They can feel out the field and know when to let the ball fly and do all sorts.
12:18Sometimes Shanahan just gets in the way.
12:20Tony, thank you very much.
12:22You got all that?
12:23Yeah, I got it all.
12:24Yeah.
12:24All of it?
12:25I mean, not all of it.
12:26Okay.
12:27Like, Shanahan gets in the way and it's all about God.
12:30So, I don't know.
12:32Not God.
12:33It was about feeling it.
12:34Higher power.
12:35Sure.
12:35If I'm Jed York, I...
12:37I'm feeling it right now.
12:38I'm feeling you.
12:39Yeah.
12:39Shout out Victor Bick.
12:40Oh, my God.
12:41If I am Jed York, I'm firing Shanahan and I'm going to higher power.
12:47We're going to go ahead and bring in higher power to be our coach.
12:51And, yeah, the feeling.
12:53Feeling you and all the rest of it.
12:54That next baby that you have, that should be the name.
12:58Higher power.
12:59Yeah.
12:59Yeah.
13:00Okay.
13:01Higher power, Dibley.
13:02Sure.
13:02Paul in Livermore.
13:03Hi, Paul.
13:04Palate cleanser.
13:04What's going on?
13:06Hey, how are we doing today?
13:08Gentlemen, I love your show.
13:09Thank you, Paul.
13:10Appreciate you.
13:12Hey, the question of play Mac this weekend to give Brock four more days of rest or play Brock?
13:21Play Brock.
13:22Quarterbacks take a couple games to get into the rhythm at the beginning of the season.
13:27Where early in the season, Brock's already missed two games.
13:30He's going to rush faster.
13:31Put him in now against a favorable matchup.
13:34Get that little bit of rush built up off.
13:36Get the rhythm and confidence so that he is feeling 100% mentally in the game for the important Rams game four days later.
13:45That's all I got.
13:45Yeah, it's a really good point.
13:46Thanks, Paul.
13:47Appreciate it.
13:48And again, I still would contend that it's only us out here in sports land that have conversations about basically what I would call parlays.
14:01Now, there's that parlay card that was sitting next to us earlier.
14:04Pretty awesome, yeah.
14:04That's amazing.
14:05That's not the kind of parlay I'm talking about.
14:07I feel like there's a lot in the fan base where we talk about let's do this game or let's not do this game because of what it might mean for the next game or the next game after that.
14:20Let's not play Brock now.
14:21That'll help you in December.
14:22Or even this one.
14:24Let's play Brock because this will help you on Thursday night.
14:27But just my sense, and I'm not saying that nobody thinks ahead, that's part of their job, but much more than we would give it credit for, I think teams are thinking about their next game.
14:39And that's it.
14:41Are you healthy?
14:42Yes, coach.
14:43Okay.
14:44We have a game on Sunday.
14:46The whole concept of like, you know, well, we could lose this one because the next one is the one we want.
14:53Yes, I'm not like disagreeing with you that Thursday is more important than Sunday, but I don't know that the 49ers coaching staff, I just don't think there's room.
15:05There's so much work that goes into winning a football game.
15:08I don't think there's room to sit there and start taking into account week five, six, seven, and eight.
15:13No, and you don't know what's going to happen in week four.
15:16Like, you play Mack Jones, and Mack's got a bad knee, and you rest Brock because you really want Thursday, and so, you know, something happens to Mack, and now you have to go to Adrian Martinez, and he's not ready.
15:28He's new in the system, and you lose to Jacksonville, and well, you get to Thursday, and now you have Brock, and you don't have Mack because something bad happened to Mack, and Brock goes out there and he stubs his toe, and now you're back to Adrian Martinez anyway.
15:41So, you play Brock Purdy if he's good enough to play, and you always hope against hope that you don't get injuries, although if you're the Niners, you kind of expect injuries because that's you.
15:52You're the injured team, and you go out there and you do what you do, and it's the same thing with Christian McCaffrey and any other player.
15:59Like, George Kittle, he hurts his hamstring on a play where he's not getting thrown the ball, and he's just running, and now he's out for at least four games.
16:07So, should you not play George Kittle except for plays where he's going to block, and he's going to get the ball thrown to him?
16:13Of course not.
16:14They're football players.
16:16They play, and you just never know what's going to happen.
16:19So, yeah, Mark, you're right.
16:20Shanahan's not thinking about Thursday at all.
16:23I'm sure they've already looked ahead at some Ram film, but right now it's about Jacksonville.
16:29How do we beat Liam Cohen and the underrated Trevor Lawrence, who I apparently love?
16:34Oh, you do.
16:35How do you beat the Jaguars, and then we talk about Thursday on Monday.
16:39We should tell our audience right now that the weekly Tuesday afternoon trip out to the farm to talk to John Feliciano,
16:46who does his best to not cuss every other word, just got more interesting.
16:52Oh, it did.
16:52Because he came down your road on Twitter.
16:55Big time.
16:56Tell us about it.
16:57Well, and it cost me about 87 more mentions in my mentions.
17:01That's a good thing.
17:02It's great.
17:02And, you know, Luke has put it out there already.
17:04You're blowing up.
17:05Dan Dibley would rather have Trevor Lawrence over Brock Purdy.
17:08What do you think?
17:09And so I got called names that begin with almost every consonant and a couple of vowels, too.
17:14And it's like, okay, sure.
17:16I mean, 28 years in the business, and I don't know what I'm talking about.
17:20Fine.
17:20Your opinion is yours, and mine is mine.
17:22And then it's starting to die down.
17:24And here comes Mongo.
17:27Here comes Mongo Feliciano.
17:31Mongo, go get Dan.
17:32Mongo.
17:33Yeah.
17:33If you want to follow him, it's at Mongo Feliciano.
17:36And he just blows me up with a, I can't wait to smack you around on Tuesday.
17:42And then, rah, rah, rah.
17:45And still, since we've been on the air here for about an hour, I got another five mentions.
17:51And I don't even want to click on them because you're an R.
17:54You're an H.
17:55You're a D.
17:56Because it's Twitter.
17:58That guy is such a D.
17:59Half the text line yesterday agreed with you and couldn't stop calling me a homer for wanting Purdy over Lawrence.
18:05And this is the sports version, like, I bet this is pretty relatable to you all, right?
18:09Do you have to be a homer?
18:11I don't have to.
18:12We've talked about this.
18:13I just enjoy it.
18:14So the point is, is that do you know of anything else in our world where there are a bunch of people who firmly hang on to an opinion that you can't even understand?
18:27You're just like, there's no way there are other human beings that think that way.
18:32And as it turns out, there are millions of them.
18:34Millions.
18:35Millions upon millions upon millions of them who passionately and firmly think that you're the moron.
18:42And that's how that whole thing started yesterday.
18:45Yeah, apparently, according to Ryan Frick, what an idiot was his response.
18:50Well, yeah.
18:51And then Robert Uribe.
18:53Uribe.
18:55Stick to volleyball, Dibby.
18:58You're not tall enough to understand the game of football.
19:01I like that one.
19:02Obviously, from whatever angle you watch the game.
19:05So I'm not.
19:07Yeah, stick to volleyball.
19:09I'm going to use that.
19:09Don't ding that.
19:10No.
19:10With apple in your mouth, Randy.
19:12I'm obviously not tall enough to see my own TV screen.
19:16Robert Uribe.
19:18Robert U75728.
19:20U.
19:21Stop.
19:23Uribe.
19:23All of you, come on down.
19:25Come on down.
19:26You can't.
19:27You're like water off a duck's back.
19:29You're always there.
19:30But you don't keep me from swimming, guys.
19:32They're right.
19:33And you're wrong.
19:33And that's the fun part.
19:35Yeah.
19:35Is you, like, people don't even know, again, how this started.
19:38In fact, our morning show doesn't even know that they started it.
19:42And I don't even know which one of them it was.
19:43Somebody on the morning show was like Niner fans would like Purdy over Lawrence.
19:49And a friend of mine texted me and was like, laughable opinion.
19:53And this is the example I gave you yesterday.
19:55Where do you ever go to a friend or your spouse or whatever?
19:58You get home from work.
20:00I bet this happens all the time, Dibs.
20:01You get home and you're like, freaking the Higgian.
20:05Not me.
20:06I can't believe.
20:07No, I've heard it.
20:08I can't believe that this jerk is so out of line.
20:13Listen to this plan that he's got.
20:16Listen to what he wants me to do.
20:18Maybe it's not you, Dibs.
20:19Maybe it's the other four guys who have to come do summits on off hours.
20:23Yeah.
20:23This guy, the Higgian.
20:25It's more me, like, talking about you, to be honest.
20:28That's fine.
20:28You go there.
20:29This guy, Willard.
20:30This guy won't shut up.
20:31I never speak.
20:32I never get to do anything on the show.
20:35Right.
20:35And what if your lovely wife's supper looked at you and was like, well, yeah.
20:40Yeah, that's the way it should be.
20:42He's the lead dog.
20:43Like, you're the side piece.
20:45It's not Dibs and Willard.
20:47It's Willard and Dibs, honey.
20:49So my buddy is like, can you believe that they want Purdy over the first pick in the draft?
20:55And I kind of tried to find a creative way to be like, yeah.
20:59Yeah.
21:01I'm one of them.
21:02And he's kind of like, okay, like, just so you know, I kind of like, I see where you're
21:11coming from, but I disagree.
21:14And that's the beauty of all this.
21:16I do.
21:17I do.
21:17But in a way, that's the beauty of us.
21:19I know it frustrates the hell out of us here in the old United States of America.
21:24But sometimes you got to just sit with the idea that something that seems as clear as
21:30flipping day to you, half the crowd is like, you're nuts.
21:36You're absolutely crazy.
21:38I mean, is there anything more relatable than that in the world right now?
21:43Not really.
21:44I mean, thank God there are neutral national voices who align with me.
21:49Such as?
21:51Such as the quarterback expert, Stephen Ruiz of The Ringer.
21:56Oh, that guy.
21:57Yeah.
21:58America's number one Brock Purdy hater.
22:00You can paint him however you want to paint him.
22:02He's got Trevor Lawrence at number 16.
22:04Yeah.
22:05He's got Brock Purdy at number 20.
22:06Stephen's a gaslighter.
22:07I'm not insulting Brock Purdy.
22:09No, you're not.
22:09Stephen and I are in lockstep on this one.
22:13Don't even do that.
22:14He's got Drake May ahead of Brock.
22:16Of course he does.
22:17He's got Sam Darnold ahead of Brock.
22:18Good for you, Steve.
22:19He's got Cal Murray ahead of Brock.
22:22Absurd.
22:22He's got, wow, and this guy.
22:25Talk about stock down.
22:26Let me.
22:27Let's go.
22:28CJ Shroud.
22:30Is ahead of Brock Purdy?
22:31Oh, way ahead.
22:31Laughable.
22:32Yeah.
22:33You know who he has at number nine?
22:34Who?
22:35The pride of the Raiders.
22:39Gino Smith is number nine.
22:40Gino Smith is number nine.
22:42Dak is number seven.
22:43Tell me you haven't seen a Raider game all year without telling me you haven't seen a Raider game all year.
22:47Steven and I, yeah, Steven maybe, you and I maybe need to get coffee.
22:51You take Steve.
22:52I'll take Greg Cosell and Mongo Feliciano, who played.
22:57You'd be wrong.
22:58Who plays right next to Brock.
23:01We'll be right next to Brock.
23:02We'll be right next to Brock.
23:02We'll be right next to Brock.
23:03We'll be right next to Brock.
23:03We'll be right next to Brock.
23:04We'll be right next to Brock.
23:05We'll be right next to Brock.
23:06We'll be right next to Brock.
23:07We'll be right next to Brock.
23:08We'll be right next to Brock.
23:09We'll be right next to Brock.
23:10We'll be right next to Brock.
23:11We'll be right next to Brock.
23:12We'll be right next to Brock.
23:13We'll be right next to Brock.
23:14We'll be right next to Brock.
23:15We'll be right next to Brock.
23:16We'll be right next to Brock.
23:17We'll be right next to Brock.
23:18We'll be right next to Brock.
23:19We'll be right next to Brock.
23:20We'll be right next to Brock.
