The biggest argument against Anthony Weaver being the next head coach for the Dolphins.
Transcript
00:00So, remember a few days ago, maybe last week, Solana was talking about blame pie
00:07and who gets the blame for the Dolphins' slow start.
00:11And he had forwarded us an article this morning from CBS Sports
00:14about all the undefeated teams, who gets the blame pie.
00:19How do you divvy up the blame for all the winless teams?
00:23And I'll tell you how they do it for the Dolphins.
00:25And again, this is CBS Sports.
00:27They put 75% of the blame on the defense.
00:33The defense gets three quarters of the blame pie.
00:40The offense gets 10%.
00:44Awful vibes gets 10%.
00:50And injuries gets 5%.
00:54And what they write is, Miami simply cannot stop anybody moving the ball or putting it in the end zone
01:02and cannot take it away from the other team either.
01:05Some of that is due to various injuries in the secondary, but it is bad stuff.
01:10The Dolphins rank 26th in yards allowed and 32nd in points allowed.
01:15They've given up 31 or more points to all three of their opponents.
01:19They have forced zero turnovers.
01:23Opponents are averaging the most yards and points per drive in the league
01:26and have scored on an utterly preposterous 68% of their possessions.
01:32The defense has been so bad that it's overshadowed the offense,
01:37looking largely like a shell of a unit that took the league by storm a few years ago.
01:41The last two games have been better than the disastrous opener,
01:45but the high-flying explosive version of this team is gone.
01:49The vibes have been rancid since at least training camp,
01:53and that's shown up for this team on the field.
01:57And I do find it interesting because we keep talking about how Anthony Weaver
02:02will be the next head coach of the Dolphins,
02:04but, man, that defense is bad.
02:08It would be interesting.
02:09I know he's got the players' respect, and he seems to be next in line,
02:14but, man, that's a tough transition to make just based on what his unit is doing.
02:18A hundred points in three games is terrible.
02:22That's ridiculously just that's not football.
02:26But the blame pie, so even if you say the defense, which I'm with you,
02:30that's terrible, a hundred points in three games,
02:33is it personnel or is it coaching?
02:36Because, Huck, you said Storm and Jack are the next Pat and Sam,
02:41but they're not, and now Storm is hurt.
02:44Now we're bringing in an old corner in Razul.
02:48So even on the defensive side of it, is that acquisitions or is that play calling?
02:53Right, because they're bad.
02:54Is Anthony Weaver, are we blaming Anthony Weaver
02:56when he was handed a poor secondary to start with
03:00and then it got banged up beyond that?
03:02Yeah, let's put together an exotic blitz.
03:06If I'm blitzing, I'm in one-on-one on the outside.
03:09Like, you're in cover one or cover zero blitzing.
03:12I can't call a blitz with these dudes back here.
03:14They can't cover anybody.
03:16So that's where the blame, but just, I guess,
03:19the surface level of looking at the Dolphins, yes.
03:22If you're letting people score 30 points a game,
03:24you're going to lose a lot of football games.
03:26Would you divvy it up that way, though?
03:2875% on the offense, on the defense, 10% on the offense?
03:32No, the numbers would say that.
03:34I'd divvy it up.
03:35I wouldn't put 75 on the defense because of the fact that
03:38Tua and the offense had a chance to win that Buffalo game.
03:42Zach Seeler on special teams, why the hell is he rushing the punter?
03:46Like, I think it's a lot more to it if you watch every snap
03:49than just the defense has given up 30 points.
03:51The defense isn't good, but there are a lot of other issues on this team.
03:56How do you like the way they divvied it up, Solana, on CBS?
04:00It's probably a little unfair because, like Crowder's pointing out,
04:03the personnel just isn't conducive to a good defense.
04:08And it's funny because now you're getting all –
04:10I think it's a large enough sample size through three games
04:13where you're getting all these, like, deeper stats coming out.
04:18The Dolphins are number one in blitz rate in the NFL right now.
04:22They're number 32 in pressure rate.
04:24Think about that.
04:25They're blitzing more than anybody on average,
04:27and they're getting pressure on the quarterback less than anybody on average.
04:33So what does that tell you?
04:35That front seven that we were all expecting gaudy numbers by them
04:38hasn't been good enough,
04:39but also your personnel probably just isn't good enough.
04:43The biggest attribute the Dolphins were banking on was your front seven
04:47would put pressure on the quarterback.
04:49That would help alleviate the problems defensively.
04:51That has not panned out.
04:53And offensively, I think it deserves a little bit more blame
04:57because you know your defense has some weaknesses, has some holes.
05:00You got to do everything you can to keep them from being in bad positions.
05:04Guess what?
05:04Week one, turnovers.
05:06Put the defense in horrendous positions,
05:09and the Dolphins' offense just hasn't been able to score.
05:12To me, bad vibes, 10% injuries, 5% is correct.
05:17I'd put defense and offense even split, truthfully.
05:21I wonder if Anthony Weaver has changed his approach enough
05:28based on that blitz number that he just told us
05:33and what it's resulting in.
05:36Because if it's not resulting in anything, which it's not,
05:41then maybe you need to redesign what you're doing, though.
05:46100%?
05:47And like this week, who's it?
05:50Oh, damn, they got Garrett Wilson.
05:52And they don't have great quarterbacks.
05:53Justin Fields is not amazing.
05:54Tyrod Taylor is not amazing.
05:55Hey, by the way, what did we find out about Justin Fields today, Solana?
05:59He's practicing but still in concussion protocol.
06:03But it was pointed out that one of the processes of getting through concussion protocol
06:08is going through a practice, being reevaluated.
06:11So this is part of the process.
06:13But as of right now, as we talk right now, 348, he's still in concussion protocol.
06:17But to the number Solana just said, like Chop and Bradley Chubb and Jalen Phillips,
06:26people aren't worried about it.
06:28They're not scared of our front seven.
06:30Because I've seen three games.
06:31They're number 32 in pressure rate.
06:34And then Garrett Wilson is not walking up on Jack Jones and saying,
06:39oh, I got a game today.
06:41No.
06:41Hey, hey, Justin.
06:44Hey, Tyrod.
06:45I'm going to be open.
06:46Throw the in route.
06:46And it's just, so what can, so is Anthony Weaver calling a bad game?
06:54Or does he not have the material to call a good game?
06:57And that's where you, that's where we have to parse it.
06:59But I'll tell you, I don't think Jack Jones should be your number one.
07:03I don't think Storm Duck should be your number one.
07:05We had a number one in Jalen Ramsey, who's now with Pittsburgh, making plays, winning games.
07:12So I would say the surface love, we go offense, defense, special teams, head coach.
07:17I understand it.
07:18But if you go deeper, I don't think the personnel is there to really call a great defense because there's no corners that can choke anybody out.
07:25You got to choke people out.
07:26All right.
07:28Four o'clock hour is coming up.
07:29We're going to get caught up on the headlines.
07:31Rob Pizzola is going to join us in the four o'clock hour with some winners.
07:36I'm curious what his pick is.
07:38I gave him, I'm going to give him all the AFC East games.
07:40You know, I think it's Buffalo and New Orleans.
07:43You want to guess what that line is?
07:46Buffalo hosting New Orleans.
07:48Buffalo minus 11.
07:53Why?
07:55Yeah.
07:56Buffalo nine and a half.
07:58I think it's 16.
08:01I got to double check.
08:03I got to double check this.
08:0516.
08:06It's 16.
08:08Yeah.
08:09So I'm going to ask him that.
08:10The largest line this season in, in, in week four, for sure.
08:14I w I would imagine.
08:15Yeah.
08:15That's four points more.
08:1712 and a half was, was tied for the largest line of the season going into last week.
08:21That's three and a half, four points larger spread than any other line this year.
08:26Like that's has to be the largest line.
08:30That's why I'm curious what Pizzola thinks.
08:32Cause he loves getting a ton of points in the NFL, but you make a case for me that New Orleans is going to somehow stick
08:39within two and a half touchdowns of Buffalo at Buffalo.
08:44Come on, Rattler.
08:46I don't, I just don't see it.
08:48Ask about the dolphins as well.
08:50And I think the Patriots Patriots have another, uh, stinker to Buffalo's got new Orleans and the Patriots have the Carolina Panthers.
08:59Panthers just wore out who they wear out.
09:02Atlanta beat them.
09:04I put that more on Atlanta than, uh, than on Carolina.
09:08I'm just not a believer in Bryce young Atlanta.
09:11Whoop the Vikings.
09:13By J.J.
09:15McCarthy.
09:18All right.
09:18Anyway, we'll take a break.
09:19Four o'clock hour is coming up here on Hawkman Crowder and Solana.
