00:00And so we have a lot of stuff to get to this afternoon on a football Friday.

00:27I just thought this was interesting.
00:30Joe Shea had had a tweet.
00:31I don't know if you saw it.
00:32And it was how much each NFL team has spent this season on cornerbacks.
00:42And he lists the bottom four teams in cornerback spending, right?
00:50And you can imagine the Dolphins are in the bottom four.
00:54They're in the bottom four or the bottom four?
00:59Like, they're just the entire bottom four.
01:01There's three teams worse than them in spending.
01:04But the Dolphins are spending this coming season $14.3 million on cornerbacks.
01:09It's a staggeringly low number for a position group.
01:13Because generally, you're going to have a player making more than that.
01:17I don't know what Jalen Ramsey was making.
01:19But I know it was more than what they're paying out the entire group at this point.
01:23You have the Saints paying out 12.9 mil.
01:27Cardinals, 11.6.
01:28Raiders, 10.8, the lowest.
01:30But the Dolphins, 14.3 million.
01:33And the only reason...
01:34So it jumped out at me because I'm like, wow.
01:36$14 million in salary on cornerbacks, which is a pretty important position.
01:40And that's a very low number.
01:42Again, for the entirety, it's actually a low number for a star cornerback.
01:47Like, one star cornerback is going to be making double that.
01:53I'm looking at a Cam Ward take on SportsCenter right now.
01:57Cam Ward, quote, real close to fully understanding the offense.
02:02That's good.
02:03Number one pick says, when game time comes, I'll be dialed into everything.
02:08I love it.
02:09They play tonight.
02:10They play tonight.
02:10The Titans play the Vikings.
02:12Oh, that's why they're promoting it here on SportsCenter.
02:15It was probably on ESPN.
02:16Yeah.
02:16I don't know if he's playing.
02:18It's on CBS, actually, tonight.
02:20I don't know if he's playing, but...
02:21J.J. McCarthy, not expected to play.
02:24They're putting up there right now.
02:29But anyway, I was just wondering.
02:30So it jumps out at me, and I'm like, oh, cornerbacks, we know it's going to be a problem.
02:33They're not spending any money.
02:34And then I thought to myself, is that, again, just...
02:39And I brought this up with you guys before, convenient complaining.
02:42Where you pick, again, I say any team has a deficiency somewhere in some group.
02:51And so, is it just convenient complaining to say, yeah, the cornerbacks, they're not spending any money at that group.
02:59They don't have any veteran talent at that group.
03:02You're hoping Storm Duck is something.
03:05Man, it is lightning and thunder, something fierce here in Boca right now.
03:11Like shaking the building.
03:13Good.
03:14You look a little rattled.
03:15That was big, man.
03:18But I wonder if it's just convenient complaining.
03:21What do you mean by that?
03:23Like, what do you mean convenient complaining?
03:25That, you know, everything else seems to be moving along, right?
03:29And you go, oh, but here's where you whiffed.
03:33And how many teams are able to put together, like, stellar casts at every position group?
03:38I just wonder if we're doing this thing where Dolphins fans, after 25 years of not winning a playoff game, I get it.
03:45It's not unfounded.
03:47But I'm just saying, after 25 years, like, let me find the easiest target to complain about.
03:52And, okay, Jalen Ramsey's gone.
03:55So, let's just complain about the cornerbacks.
03:58Oh, there's Crowder.
03:59Is it raining?
04:00Is it raining in Davey?
04:02No, I was leaving Atlanta, and there's that, the Hurricane Aaron is throwing all kind of crap on the coast, and they wouldn't let us take off.
04:11Oh, interesting.
04:11Because it's raining here in Boca, man.
04:13It was like thunder and lightning.
04:15I was saying to Solana, is the cornerback, I was reading Joe Shad had tweeted out, the lowest paid cornerback, you know, by the entirety of the cornerback room in the NFL.
04:30Though the Dolphins are fourth on the least cornerback spending.
04:35It's a staggering number.
04:38They're spending this season $14 million on all their cornerbacks.
04:43That's nothing.
04:45It's, like I said, one good cornerback is going to make double that.
04:49I was about to say, this guy's making $25 million, $30 million.
04:51Right.
04:52So, the entire room, every single one of their cornerbacks collectively is making $14 million.
04:58So, you get what you pay for?
05:01Well, that's what I'm saying to Solana, like, is that convenient complaining, you know, where it's just low-hanging fruit, and so everyone's complaining about it.
05:11I don't think so, Hawk.
05:13Like, in this day and age, in the league, how football's played, like, there's no one looking.
05:20Like, I know you love you some Storm Duck.
05:22No, no, I'm okay with Storm Duck.
05:25I did not say that I love Storm Duck or he's going to be a pro bowler, but I said I'm okay with Storm Duck.
05:33He doesn't make me nervous being out there as a cornerback.
05:37I wouldn't – I would prefer a better cornerback to be your number one cornerback.
05:42Yes.
05:43Yes.
05:43But he doesn't concern me being out there as a cornerback.
05:49He's a player.
05:51Yeah, he doesn't.
05:52Just a guy?
05:54I don't want just a guy, Hawk.
05:56Well, that's what we've got.
05:57That's what we've got.
05:58I want monsters.
05:59No, it's – that's why it's premier position.
06:02Quarterback, we know, is number one.
06:03And then you've got to go left tackle, cornerback.
06:06I think cornerback sneaking up is number two most important position.
06:10It used to be the blind side, Michael Orr thing.
06:13You've got to have some dudes out there on that edge because if you don't,
06:17it limits so much of what Anthony Weaver can do.
06:20He can't blitz like he wants to.
06:22If he really sees a blitz, I'm not leaving Storm Duck one-on-one with Stephon Diggs.
06:28I'm not comfortable with that matchup.
06:31And so I think it limits your defense and you look around at the teams that are good,
06:36the teams that are competing, and they always have top corners.
06:39I love – I love what Hawk is doing here genuinely with not only the cornerback situations
06:45but with Storm Duck.
06:46Like, you just keep repeating that you don't think Storm Duck is a bad option.
06:50And you – like, I did the same thing with Gabe Vincent, Max Strews, Caleb Martin,
06:55where I'm just like, I don't understand what the problem here is.
06:58Like, these guys are – they're going to show you when push comes to shove
07:02that they're better than we all think they are.
07:04And I lucked out.
07:05Those guys made an NBA Finals run.
07:08If Hawk ends up lucking out here, Crowder, he's going to think –
07:12he's going to look like the genius.
07:13No, but don't misconstrue what I'm saying.
07:16In other words, there are certain guys who are out there on a football field sometimes,
07:22and you literally wince when you watch them.
07:26Tim Boyle, Mark Colombo, right?
07:28Where you literally say – who's the guy that kept throwing the interceptions?
07:32He was a backup quarterback.
07:35He threw like six in one game.
07:37Not for the Dolphins.
07:38I was going to say win.
07:40No, no, no, no.
07:41I know who you're talking about.
07:44Yes.
07:44When?
07:45Like last year?
07:46No, like three or four years ago.
07:47So he stepped in and just threw the ball to the other team.
07:50Somebody texted in.
07:52He bounced from a couple team to team,
07:55but he was literally the worst quarterback you've ever seen.
07:58Yes.
07:59What the heck was that guy's name?
08:00Someone texted in 305-567-0560.
08:04Why can't I think of his name?
08:05I can see him.
08:08White or black?
08:08Finn, white dude.
08:09White guy.
08:11Finn is a real little French fry.
08:14Why are you in the NFL type look?
08:18Why can I not think of his name?
08:20Now this is driving me crazy.
08:21He was a punch.
08:22We had a punchline about him.
08:23It was a punchline.
08:24But that's what I'm saying is there are punchline players in every sport.
08:29Punchline players.
08:31Nathan Peterman.
08:32There you go.
08:33I typed in worst backup white quarterback ever.
08:38And it was Ryan Leaf, Brandon Whedon, Nathan Peterman.
08:41Yeah, Nathan Peterman.
08:42Nathan Peterman.
08:44But yeah, like to me, Storm Duck is not a punchline.
08:48That's the delineation I'm making is that Mark Columbo is out there and you're like, oh my God, he's a turnstile.
08:55Right?
08:56And Nathan Peterman was out there and you're like, oh my God, turnover machine.
09:00And Tim Boyle was out there and you're like, oh my God, he's throwing the ball in the stand.
09:05But fourth and two.
09:06Storm Duck for me is not a punchline guy.
09:10That's the delineation I'm making on him.
09:12Yes.
09:13But it almost scares me now because I was just, you know, we were just doing the pivot.
09:19We were in Green Bay.
09:19We talked about yesterday where the Texans went and practiced against the Lions and the Dolphins literally made Amon Ross St. Brown look like Jerry Rice.
09:32Derek Stingley Jr., who is an all-pro corner, won.
09:36He was beating Amon Ross St. Brown.
09:39He was breaking fast with him.
09:41I think he had like three pass breaks up with an interception.
09:43He had Amon Ross St. Brown playing defensive back because he was in position so good.
09:48Where Jack Jones looked like he was a middle schooler playing against a college player.
09:54Right.
09:54And you haven't heard me say I'm cool with Jack Jones being part of the cornerback duo.
10:01You know what I mean?
10:02Although I did love Jack Jones.
10:04I told you saying, yeah, he ate me up.
10:06Amon Ross St. Brown, but I'm getting better or whatever.
10:08Like, I love that.
10:10But as that too.
10:12So I'll tell you.
10:14When I play, remember they traded Pat Sertan.
10:17Sam Mad Dog was there.
10:20Sam Madison was still there.
10:21Sam Madison, Drew, Steve Smith, Sam Madison, Drew, Randy Moss, Sam Madison, Drew, Andre Johnson.
10:28Those type guys, you got to have that guy.
10:31Travis Daniels was on the other side.
10:34He wasn't covering Randy Moss and Steve Smith and those boys.
10:37He was covering whoever else was behind Randy Moss.
10:40I'm okay with Storm Duck being that guy.
10:43I'm not okay with Storm Duck walking up on these top.
10:47We get to the playoffs at Storm Duck versus Jamar Chase.
10:51It's curtains, Hawk.
10:54Well, you don't know.
10:55You don't know.
10:55I know.
10:56Give him a season of being number one cornerback under his belt.
11:00You don't know what you're going to see.
11:01But last year, he wasn't the number one cornerback.
11:04And he played, really, I mean, he wasn't a starter last year.
11:08But in the opportunities that he did get out there playing opposite Jalen Ramsey.
11:12So he's not getting the best quarter or the best wide receivers in the NFL.
11:16Hawk, he was graded out by PFF as the 158th cornerback out of 200.
11:24Like, here's the thing.
11:26If your bar is he's not a laughing stock, I'm with you.
11:29I think he can be a good NFL player.
11:31I like Storm Duck.
11:32That's all I'm saying.
11:33Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
11:34Right.
11:35But if he's your best cornerback from what we've seen.
11:37I'm not telling you it's not a problem.
11:40You guys are conflating what I'm saying.
11:41I'm telling you, it's not like you're playing a laughing stock cornerback out there paired
11:49with another laughing stock cornerback.
11:51And every team is going to throw for 500 yards.
11:54I just don't think that.
11:55I wish there was a I wish Jalen Ramsey was back there.
12:01He's not.
12:02Yes.
12:02Travis Daniels, Nick Needham, that range.
12:09That's what we're just just just tell me quickly who wins these matchups.
12:15Colts, Michael Pittman, Jr., Storm Duck.
12:18I'm going to give that one to Duck.
12:20Well, yeah, Daniel Jones.
12:22Daniel Jones is throwing it.
12:23So it's throwing the football.
12:25So actually, I agree with Hawk there.
12:27Stefan Diggs, Duck.
12:29Duck on that one, because Stefan Diggs takes a few weeks to get rolled.
12:32Garrett Wilson, Duck.
12:35Oh, Duck.
12:38Drake London, Duck.
12:40Oh, come on.
12:41Is that even a question?
12:42Duck.
12:45Zay Flowers, Duck.
12:48Ooh, Duck.
12:51Terry McLaurin, Duck.
12:52Duck.
12:54McLaurin doesn't even want to be out there.
12:56Chris Olave, Duck.
12:58Come on, Duck.
13:01DK Metcalf, Duck.
13:04Seattle DK Metcalf, maybe.
13:06This DK Metcalf, Duck.
13:11I'm just calling him like I see him, folks.
13:14You're crazy.
13:16You are absolutely crazy.
13:18There's a tweet from our friend, Doug Lee Durong.
13:23Dolphins podcaster, who I believe Crowder erroneously misrepresented as a laughingstock.
13:34As we're talking about Storm Duck and laughingstocks, Dudley Durong, he hosts numerous podcasts.
13:42They broke 50,000 subscribers on YouTube.
13:47Wow.
13:48He's got 22,000 followers on Twitter.
13:51And he tweets out, I made it big, was mentioned on 104.3 WQAM, and made Crowder laugh.
14:01I appreciate Hockman and Solana having my back.
14:05All love.
14:06Genuinely made me laugh.
14:08Got to get you guys on the channel one day.
14:10I'll jump on, Dudley.
14:13Doug Lee.
14:14Doug Lee.
14:16Doug Lee.
14:17Doug Lee Do-Right is the character.
14:21Doug Lee.
14:22What's this guy's name?
14:23Doug Lee Do-Wrong.
14:25Doug Lee Do-Wrong.
14:27I got you, Doug Lee.
14:29There you go.
14:29Crowder is booked for the pod.
14:33Hawk isn't available because he's on stupidity every day, apparently.
14:36I can't do it.
14:37I have an exclusive.
14:40I can't do it, but let me know how it was, Crowder.
14:44You really took your cookie cake take on stupidity.
14:50I'm regurgitating everything over there.
14:52Hawk.
14:52I know.
14:53It's great.
14:53Whole new audience.
14:54But, Hawk, come on, man.
14:56That is genuinely the worst take.
14:58The worst take that you have.
14:59Oh, my God.
15:00It was like, literally, Izzy Gutierrez left the show.
15:03He just left.
15:04He's like, I can't even listen to this.
15:05What was the last time he had cake?
15:07He has like a 13-pack.
15:09He was making the argument.
15:10He was making the argument because the reason we were talking about it was the Mike Vrabel
15:14carrot cake story.
15:15Remember Ben Volan had tweeted out that Mike Vrabel says he better have a carrot cake for
15:19his birthday.
15:20And I'm like, so I, and I think Stugatz had brought it up.
15:23Like, is carrot cake an appropriate birthday cake?
15:26And I said what I had tweeted.
15:28It's not a celebratory cake.
15:29It's a delicious cake.
15:31But it's not a celebratory cake.
15:33More of a comfort food.
15:34It's just like, it's more of a fancy cake to me.
15:38Like, you go to a nice steakhouse or whatever, and then you're going to have some dessert,
15:41and you get a carrot cake, and it's the cream cheese frosting, and very rich.
15:45And like, but if I'm putting a candle in it and singing happy birthday, I don't want
15:51a carrot cake.
15:51And then, you know, Izzy was like, no, that's probably his preferred cake.
15:57And I'm like, yeah, I don't get it.
15:59And then Gino Toretto was there, and Gino's like, you know Gino's take on that.
16:03Gino likes carrot cake and not the frosting.
16:06He only likes the carrot cake, which is the worst part of the carrot cake.
16:11Nobody wants no carrot biscuit.
16:14That's nasty, Gino.
16:17You know what?
16:18My favorite dessert is key lime pie.
16:21But you can't stab a candle into a key lime pie and sing.
16:28Correct.
16:28That's never appropriate for a celebration, like a candle celebration.
16:34Because a key lime pie, you go to someone's house, you bring a key lime pie, that's nice.
16:38But you can't say it's your favorite dessert.
16:41Because you could not have it.
16:43You couldn't have it three times a week.
16:45You could have a cookie three times a week.
16:46Yeah, you would never have it three times a week.
16:48You want no damn cookie.
16:49I'm a grownup.
16:50Yeah, but you're not going to eat, like, do you know how quickly, although you know who
16:55eats pie every day, 52 weeks a year?
16:59Your boy.
17:00Your guy, Mel Kuyper.
17:02I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:03You and Mel Kuyper could start every day eating a piece of pie and drinking a cup of coffee,
17:07which happens to be my dream scenario.
17:09Yeah.
17:09I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:09I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:10I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:10I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:11I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:11I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:12I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:12I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:12I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:12I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:13I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:13I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:13I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:13I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:14I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:15I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:15I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:16I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:16I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:17I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:18I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:18I hate Mel Kuyper.
17:19I hate Mel Kuyper.
