00:00What were the odds that the Clemson Tigers would start yet again slow as a 16-and-a-half point home favorite in Death Valley over Fran Brown and Syracuse?
00:10Coach, they trailed 24-14 at the half.
00:14They couldn't get it going, and they lose that game, Coach, in dominating fashion, 34-21.
00:21They're 1-3 overall.
00:23Cade Klubnick stepped up with a solid performance, but that defense has yet to step up.
00:28What is the situation going on in Clemson, and can Davo right the ship the rest of the way?
00:35Joe, I think that is the question now.
00:37It's no longer are there going to be the team everybody thought they were going to be.
00:40That's out.
00:41Can he hold it back?
00:43Can he keep it from collapsing?
00:45Can he finish off strong?
00:47Can he have a winning season?
00:48Can he get to a bowl?
00:50Can he not see there what happened at Florida State last year?
00:54I think that's what the concern is now.
00:55It's more about his reputation and his credibility.
00:59Now, I think, I mean, I've been around him.
01:01I've worked with him, and I think he's got a lot together, and his own pride will be the biggest thing that pushes him.
01:07But they aren't there.
01:08I mean, if there were two games where I said there's no way, you know, they're going to lose.
01:12I mean, this game against Syracuse and the spread, and Tulane game against Ole Miss and the spread, those were two that I thought that's just too much.
01:20Even if Clemson doesn't play good, they're going to win the game by a little bit, by something.
01:25They were down 10-0.
01:27Let's say this Fran Brown, the head coach at Syracuse, what's he do?
01:32He kicks an onside kick in the first quarter.
01:34He goes for it on fourth and three.
01:36He sets the tone of a team that's going to find a way to win.
01:40And the tackling I saw on Clemson, giving up the big pass plays I saw on Clemson, there's a team right now that's playing on their heels without confidence.
01:50I didn't think I would see that at Clemson in the last few years, but I'm seeing it now.
01:55Klubnik throws for 363 yards, three touchdowns, one interception.
02:01It was in a come-from-behind effort the rest of the way.
02:03He did toss 60 attempts in that game, Coach.
02:07So, you just talk about Clemson being taken out of their game plan, credit Fran Brown and that defensive effort.
02:14Now, this was a bittersweet win for Syracuse because their starting quarterback, Steve Vangeli, throws for 244 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, but suffers a season-ending Achilles tendon tear.
02:29He just had surgery.
02:30They're going to have to go to the backup the rest of the way.
02:33For Fran Brown and Syracuse, can this team maintain the momentum with a backup quarterback?
02:40You know, the backup, Ricky Collins, came in and did a pretty good job, threw a touchdown pass.
02:45And, you know, all I would say is this.
02:46Last year, was it Kyle McCord?
02:48The quarterback was the leading passer in the nation.
02:51Then this quarterback, Steve Vangeli, comes along.
02:53He's leading the conference in passing again.
02:55There's something about the coaches and the system that they run that makes every quarterback, that makes them successful at what they're doing.
03:04Now, whether we can see that out of Ricky Collins, I don't know.
03:06That would be three in a row.
03:07But I have this sneaky suspicion that those coaches know what they're doing offensively by scheme.
03:13And if this quarterback's even close, he can keep them going.
03:16But that definitely makes me watch and wonder about Syracuse down the road.
03:22Syracuse averaged 4.2 yards per carry in the road win over Clemson.
03:27And when we talk about the dominance of Clemson, just throughout the decade, from 2015 to 2024, the Tigers were 70-3 straight up at home.
03:37Over the past year and a half, they have dropped four home games.
03:40Their record now stands at 70-7, dating back to 2015 in Death Valley.
03:46And when we talk about it, they have dropped four home games.
