00:14It was 27 to nothing, and Raheem Morris pulls the plug on him.

00:18Kurt Cousins comes in, and you are paying this man $180 million

00:21to sit on the bench.

00:24And now there are going to be growing pains with a young quarterback

00:27like Penix Jr.

00:28We kind of knew it, you know, the athleticism,

00:31the more tape defensive coordinators get on him, the harder it's going to be.

00:37And, I mean, quite honestly, it would have been one thing

00:39if this was a game he had against that defense of Detroit we saw last night.

00:43But to have it against the defense of the Carolina Panthers,

00:48would we be shocked if a couple of more performances

00:52that we scratch our head with, Raheem Morris,

00:54has to go to his $180 million backup and Kurt Cousins here?

01:00If it's a couple of more 30-0 losses where Penix looks like he doesn't know

01:06what he's doing, then no, I wouldn't be shocked.

01:09But pulling the plug right now, that would shock me.

01:12Let's remember, Joe, one thing is a mistake here.

01:14These two things can't exist simultaneously and both be right.

01:17You can't pay Kurt Cousins that massive contract that they did

01:22and then go out and take Michael Penix in the top 10 in the same draft year.

01:27You just, you can't do it.

01:29One of those things was an error in judgment.

01:31You can't take Cousins, assume he's going to be your guy,

01:35and, you know, Aaron Rodgers behind Brett Favre,

01:39Jordan Love behind Rodgers' situation,

01:41conceivably in this era, sit Michael Penix for two, three, four years.

01:46It just, it doesn't work that way in today's NFL.

01:50That's not the old days.

01:52In today's NFL, you get drafted to play

01:55or to play at the very least, say, halfway through your rookie year.

02:00Guys, don't, Patrick Mahomes doesn't sit a year behind Alex Smith anymore.

02:04You know what I mean?

02:05That stuff, it just doesn't happen.

02:07And so Penix, no, he didn't look good in the last game.

02:10He cost me some money.

02:12He cost a lot of people some money.

02:13But at the same time, this is someone that you got to go through the growing pains.

02:18You got to fight through it.

02:19You got to let him deal with it.

02:20Because the second you start benching him and sort of, I don't know,

02:25getting in his head and you have him reevaluating this, reevaluating that.

02:29He's going and talking to sports psychologists.

02:30He's losing confidence, faith in himself.

02:33It is the best way to make sure this does not work out.

02:37I mean, look at Anthony Richardson.

02:39How many times has he been, you're in, you're out, you're in, you're out there in Indianapolis.

02:44And now with the way that Daniel Jones is playing,

02:46Anthony Richardson may never see a snappy quarterback for the Colts again.

02:49Not a meaningful one anyway.

02:51He's done.

02:52It's over there.

02:53And that's the guy they thought was the future.

02:55If you're Atlanta, and I know you're paying Kirk Cousins a ton of money,

02:58you can't allow that to happen now with Michael Penix.

03:01Because Cousins has nothing to do with your future.

03:04Bad contract.

03:05It has to age out and then he's gone.

03:08Penix is the guy that you invested draft capital in.

03:11He is the guy that you believe in.

03:13He's the guy that you got to grow with.
