00:00but there is a very real Atlanta piece of this
00:03as they are heavily connected to Tua Tunga-Vailoa
00:07as Michael Penix works his way back
00:09from another season-ending knee injury year.
00:14Joe, this to me isn't much about a debate or an opinion.
00:19I just think it's abundantly clear that
00:22if slash when Atlanta finalizes a deal with Tua,
00:26they are not bringing him in as a pure backup to Michael Penix.
00:32They are going to be looking for a quarterback competition this summer.
00:37Yeah, it seems that way, and Stefanski, for some reason,
00:41always gets himself involved with these quarterback quandaries, right?
00:45He did it with Cleveland and with the whole situation,
00:48what you do with Sanders, and it's similar to now what we have
00:52with Michael Penix and now the signing of Tua.
00:54If you're asking me if I was the GM or I was the head coach right now,
00:58I would start Penix as long as he's healthy in a heartbeat over Tua.
01:02I'm sorry, with the weapons that they have,
01:04he's still a young quarterback with the veteran tutelage of Kevin Stefanski.
01:09He can elevate Penix's game to potentially where Michael Penix
01:13could be the face of the franchise for the next five or six seasons.
01:17Why you want to roll the dice with Tua, an aging arm,
01:21the concussion issues, they did this with Kirk Cousins,
01:24and it didn't work out.
01:26Who's to say that it's definitely going to work out with Tua
01:29when he couldn't get the football to Tyreek Hill
01:31and Jalen Waddell on a consistent basis?
01:34Explain that to me.
01:35I just don't understand.
01:36You have a young quarterback with a live arm coming off an injury.
01:41Now you have the veteran coach,
01:42which I think was a significant upgrade from a philosophy standpoint
01:46from where both Arthur Smith and Raheem Morris were the past couple of seasons,
01:51and now you pull this move with Tua?
01:54What are we doing here?
01:55I mean, they are stuck in neutral, this organization,
01:59if they start Tua as the starting quarterback this year.
02:02Eight wins, tops, or bust.
02:04And that's why they just never get over the top,
02:06because they can't see the writing on the wall.
02:09Penix is the future of the franchise,
02:11and if you don't like him,
02:13at least trade him to somebody that could start him,
02:16because the kid has a future.
02:17It's amazing.
02:18The kid has a live arm,
02:19and you want to start a journeyman
02:21that couldn't even get a playoff win for Miami.
02:26I think there's a lot of questions, Joe,
02:28around what you're saying around Michael Penix.
02:32I mean, he has a live arm.
02:34One, we don't know if Michael Penix is going to be ready to go
02:37to start the season.
02:39So that's a big piece of this situation.
02:44But, Joe, the Atlanta regime has been cleaned out.
02:47There's no allegiances to Michael Penix,
02:51and I just don't think this is an operation
02:54that wants to tie themselves down to Penix.
02:58I don't think they're under the impression
03:01that Tua is going to win 14 games
03:04and become the saving grace.
03:06I just think they want a competition for Michael Penix.
03:11There's probably something to the lefty-lefty of it all, right?
03:15It probably is a little better to have that consistency.
03:18So those are some things to really keep your eyes on.
03:24I don't know.
