00:00Hello and welcome to this Victorian Jane's weather update for Monday.
00:04We have got a cold outbreak that is moving across the southeast.
00:07How can we tell?
00:08On the satellite, there's this speckled cloud that is in behind it,
00:11so that indicates some pretty chilly air coming through.
00:14Showers, you'll notice that they're crossing the south,
00:16they're hitting the ranges, and then they're drying up on the other side,
00:19but the cloud from that will spread through for the afternoon.
00:22We're looking at snow as low as 700 metres in the southern parts of Tasmania
00:27this morning into the early afternoon as the worst of it moves through.
00:31And by the end, you can also see just how cold this is by this particular pattern
00:36of light blues and then darker blues, and right in that corner,
00:39you've even got 600 metres.
00:40So this is by the end of the day, and that is where the peak of the cold air
00:44is moving into New South Wales, racing up the New South Wales coast.
00:48But this is the total in terms of showers that we're likely to see during the day
00:51and how it really does taper out as it moves into the north.
00:54There is Monday, so going to Tuesday.
00:57High pressure back over the Bighton through here, so we're still on the cool side.
01:01We're still in southwesterly winds.
01:02Most of the wet weather, though, is in Tasmania because there's no strong disturbance
01:06coming through anymore.
01:08So that's what we have for Tuesday.
01:10Into Wednesday, that's when the next disturbance arrives.
01:12It is lacking the big horseshoe shape of the first one,
01:16so it's not a severe cold outbreak.
01:19We will feel this a little bit as it comes through,
01:21and the wet weather will increase as we go into Wednesday.
01:24Into Thursday, that continues moving past.
01:27High pressure is now up and through here, so we're going to see a hint of warmth comes through,
01:31but it's not a proper move out to the east, so we don't get our northerly winds that are,
01:36we don't get our sunshine and our northerly winds.
01:38The next weather system isn't far away.
01:40Now, as we head into the grand final long weekend, let's have a look.
01:44Let's unpack the timing of this.
01:46This is the end of Thursday.
01:48Here we have Friday.
01:49Here's our next disturbance coming through.
01:51So in Melbourne, that's likely to be on Friday afternoon and evening,
01:55so it's warm to start and then a cold change.
01:58That clears out on Friday night, and then have a look at Saturday.
02:02Hardly anything left.
02:04In fact, the grand final should be quite dry.
02:06I'll unpack all of that in a second.
02:08And then the next weather system comes through.
02:10There's Sunday.
02:11There's Monday into next Tuesday, so it's another cold outbreak to start next week.
02:17What could this add up to?
02:18It's the exposed part.
02:19So it's the southwest coast.
02:21It's the southern and western parts of Gippsland here.
02:23It's just up into the ranges.
02:24There's no connection to tropical moisture, so the wet weather tapers off as it heads inland.
02:29As soon as it crosses the ranges, there isn't much at all there.
02:32And you can clearly see what our terrain does.
02:34Wet weather dries up.
02:36Wet weather increases as it crosses the bay there, dries up as it crosses the ranges,
02:41crosses the ranges, and then wet weather increases again as it moves through,
02:45and it decreases as it heads into the north.
02:47So that's our totals for the next week.
02:50Let's just unpack that for Melbourne.
02:51So we've got showers that are continuing to move through.
02:54This is the chilly day of the week, about 14.
02:571.6 millimetres left, and this is 10 o'clock in the morning.
03:01So we've still got a little bit to come.
03:02That should ease off as we move later in the day.
03:04As we go into Tuesday, temperatures jump up, but we've got cloudy skies.
03:08Cloudy skies again on Wednesday.
03:09The showers are likely to be during the afternoon.
03:11There's a little dip in temperature.
03:12Not the big dip.
03:14You saw the lines they were at the horseshoe.
03:17They were more zonal.
03:19So it's not a huge outbreak in terms of that one.
03:22Thursday, cloudy skies, but temperatures warm up.
03:2520 or the low 20s as we move through the morning on Friday before that change arrives.
03:30There's our 3 millimetres.
03:32And by Saturday, hardly anything left at all.
03:34In fact, it should be quite mild for the afternoon.
03:36And if there is one stray shower left, we'll be incredibly unlucky if it actually hits the MCG.
03:44Then into Sunday, it looks okay during the day.
03:47And then increasing at night, ready for that outburst on Monday.
03:50Okay.
