Hello and welcome to this Victorian Jane's weather update for Monday.
00:04
We have got a cold outbreak that is moving across the southeast.
00:07
How can we tell?
00:08
On the satellite, there's this speckled cloud that is in behind it,
00:11
so that indicates some pretty chilly air coming through.
00:14
Showers, you'll notice that they're crossing the south,
00:16
they're hitting the ranges, and then they're drying up on the other side,
00:19
but the cloud from that will spread through for the afternoon.
00:22
We're looking at snow as low as 700 metres in the southern parts of Tasmania
00:27
this morning into the early afternoon as the worst of it moves through.
00:31
And by the end, you can also see just how cold this is by this particular pattern
00:36
of light blues and then darker blues, and right in that corner,
00:39
you've even got 600 metres.
00:40
So this is by the end of the day, and that is where the peak of the cold air
00:44
is moving into New South Wales, racing up the New South Wales coast.
00:48
But this is the total in terms of showers that we're likely to see during the day
00:51
and how it really does taper out as it moves into the north.
00:54
There is Monday, so going to Tuesday.
00:57
High pressure back over the Bighton through here, so we're still on the cool side.
01:01
We're still in southwesterly winds.
01:02
Most of the wet weather, though, is in Tasmania because there's no strong disturbance
01:06
coming through anymore.
01:08
So that's what we have for Tuesday.
01:10
Into Wednesday, that's when the next disturbance arrives.
01:12
It is lacking the big horseshoe shape of the first one,
01:16
so it's not a severe cold outbreak.
01:19
We will feel this a little bit as it comes through,
01:21
and the wet weather will increase as we go into Wednesday.
01:24
Into Thursday, that continues moving past.
01:27
High pressure is now up and through here, so we're going to see a hint of warmth comes through,
01:31
but it's not a proper move out to the east, so we don't get our northerly winds that are,
01:36
we don't get our sunshine and our northerly winds.
01:38
The next weather system isn't far away.
01:40
Now, as we head into the grand final long weekend, let's have a look.
01:44
Let's unpack the timing of this.
01:46
This is the end of Thursday.
01:48
Here we have Friday.
01:49
Here's our next disturbance coming through.
01:51
So in Melbourne, that's likely to be on Friday afternoon and evening,
01:55
so it's warm to start and then a cold change.
01:58
That clears out on Friday night, and then have a look at Saturday.
02:02
Hardly anything left.
02:04
In fact, the grand final should be quite dry.
02:06
I'll unpack all of that in a second.
02:08
And then the next weather system comes through.
02:10
There's Sunday.
02:11
There's Monday into next Tuesday, so it's another cold outbreak to start next week.
02:17
What could this add up to?
02:18
It's the exposed part.
02:19
So it's the southwest coast.
02:21
It's the southern and western parts of Gippsland here.
02:23
It's just up into the ranges.
02:24
There's no connection to tropical moisture, so the wet weather tapers off as it heads inland.
02:29
As soon as it crosses the ranges, there isn't much at all there.
02:32
And you can clearly see what our terrain does.
02:34
Wet weather dries up.
02:36
Wet weather increases as it crosses the bay there, dries up as it crosses the ranges,
02:41
crosses the ranges, and then wet weather increases again as it moves through,
02:45
and it decreases as it heads into the north.
02:47
So that's our totals for the next week.
02:50
Let's just unpack that for Melbourne.
02:51
So we've got showers that are continuing to move through.
02:54
This is the chilly day of the week, about 14.
02:57
1.6 millimetres left, and this is 10 o'clock in the morning.
03:01
So we've still got a little bit to come.
03:02
That should ease off as we move later in the day.
03:04
As we go into Tuesday, temperatures jump up, but we've got cloudy skies.
03:08
Cloudy skies again on Wednesday.
03:09
The showers are likely to be during the afternoon.
03:11
There's a little dip in temperature.
03:12
Not the big dip.
03:14
You saw the lines they were at the horseshoe.
03:17
They were more zonal.
03:19
So it's not a huge outbreak in terms of that one.
03:22
Thursday, cloudy skies, but temperatures warm up.
03:25
20 or the low 20s as we move through the morning on Friday before that change arrives.
03:30
There's our 3 millimetres.
03:32
And by Saturday, hardly anything left at all.
03:34
In fact, it should be quite mild for the afternoon.
03:36
And if there is one stray shower left, we'll be incredibly unlucky if it actually hits the MCG.
03:44
Then into Sunday, it looks okay during the day.
03:47
And then increasing at night, ready for that outburst on Monday.
03:50
Okay.
