Reaction to another deflating Miami Dolphins loss in Week 2 vs the New England Patriots.
Transcript
00:00I think Thursday night is going to be embarrassing for the Dolphins.
00:03That's my feel.
00:04Like, I think it's legitimately going to be embarrassing.
00:08Yesterday wasn't embarrassing.
00:10There were embarrassing moments.
00:13And you don't want to be 0-2,
00:15but it wasn't embarrassing like opening game against Indianapolis was.
00:20The score wasn't.
00:22Look, I'll show you my notes I took during the game.
00:24I have a frowny face.
00:27I have a frowny.
00:29Don't misconstrue what I'm saying.
00:31Don't misconstrue what I'm saying.
00:33There were embarrassing moments.
00:34Here's what I would say, though.
00:35In all honesty, and I think Mike McDaniel is short for the job.
00:40I'm not certain, you know, if they do get embarrassed on Thursday,
00:43I'm not certain he lasts beyond the third game of the season.
00:47But the team did not quit on him yesterday.
00:52And I felt like week one, they weren't with him.
00:56This one, they went down two touchdowns, minus two extra points.
01:00But they went down two touchdowns,
01:02and that would have been a perfect opportunity for the team to crumple,
01:06to absolutely disappear, rats off a ship, as Tobin likes to say,
01:11and just move on with their lives.
01:13They didn't do that.
01:15They fought back.
01:17There were a couple times where you thought they won this game.
01:20That, you know, even starting slow, Tua got it turned around.
01:26God bless Devon HN, by the way.
01:28But special teams got it turned around until they didn't.
01:33I mean, there were times where you were like,
01:35the Dolphins are going to win this game after it seemed like they were on the road
01:40to the same kind of game that they had in Indianapolis.
01:42So they didn't quit on Mike McDaniel.
01:45I did see something.
01:46I think I sent it to you guys.
01:47Kyle Long talking about it.
01:48Just saying, this team has talent.
01:50They are unprepared, and they're not going to win with the current regime.
01:55Unprepared.
01:56That two-minute process, getting a play-in, taking, delay a game,
02:03just penalties, 10 penalties in a game.
02:06Huck, we talked about it last week, and I started thinking about it.
02:10We said it hasn't been fixed.
02:11It hasn't been fixed in four years.
02:15Mike McDaniel cannot decide on a play when the game's on the line.
02:19And we did, I can go, if I really want to go back and look,
02:23this was the same thing that happened in 2022.
02:25His first year as a head coach, we kind of played caller
02:28and kind of gave him a pass.
02:30We haven't fixed our two-minute process in four years.
02:34And then, you know what?
02:35I'm going to tell you something, too.
02:37I went and hate-watched the Atlanta-Minnesota game.
02:41Young coach, young quarterbacks.
02:43There's no chance that they can be better than us because it's Tua.
02:47He's a vet.
02:48Mike McDaniel's four years in.
02:50You know what I noticed?
02:51There was a time when Michael Penix couldn't get the call, and he snapped.
02:57He was holding his hands over his ears, and he started cussing out.
03:01And the commentators even said, I think Michael Penix said he wants to call faster.
03:05Another guy was like, no, I think he said more than that.
03:08He cussed out the sideline.
03:10Like, let's get it going.
03:11J.J. McCarthy, who I told y'all wasn't that good,
03:14but y'all want to talk about the fourth quarter.
03:15We'll get to that sometime.
03:16Do a couple dimes.
03:17Do a couple dimes.
03:19J.J. McCarthy dropped the ball and did something stupid.
03:23He got to the sideline.
03:25Kevin O'Connell lit his ass up.
03:29Tua and McDaniel, they might be two nice of people or friends.
03:33There is no in-game accountability on what's going on here.
03:39Tua should have went crazy.
03:40Bro, we're driving to win the game down by six,
03:44and you don't know what you want to call?
03:46Call a play, and let's get this thing going, man.
03:50Tua didn't play great, but that process really got to me.
03:54Yes, I was hot about that at the end of the game.
03:57Tua mentioned it after the game, too,
03:59in words that you don't normally hear him use,
04:02which was like, hey, a little slow on the uptake here,
04:06and I'm going to have to have a conversation.
04:08A strongly worded letter is going to be sent to –
04:11it was like Kirk Cousins on that show,
04:14when quarterbacks that I watch on Netflix,
04:16when you send voice memos,
04:18I'm going to have to send a strongly worded voice memo
04:20to Coach McDaniel about getting the play in on time.
04:24Coach, you don't have a playlist?
04:28Third and long, second and short, second and medium.
04:31Like, hell, I coach, and I had a playlist,
04:35and I'm not in a NFL.
04:36And the options, it's not that he doesn't –
04:38there's too much going on.
04:40There's too many personnel packages.
04:43It's all cute when it's working.
04:45It's burdensome when it's not.
04:47Remember when the Dolphins had three people
04:49who got the play call before it went to the quarterback?
04:52It was a game of telephone.
04:54Super cute if that works.
04:56But it's really burdensome if it doesn't.
04:59And that's what we're seeing with this McDaniel,
05:01you know, inability to get the play in in time,
05:05getting the right personnel people on the field in time.
05:09Like, it just – it's a cluster bleep.
05:12And you know what else?
05:14Now I'm just mad.
05:16We finally forced two punts after six quarters,
05:21and we run one back.
05:24What is going – we have a punt returner,
05:27but we can't even force a punt, Mr. Weaver.
05:29That – listen, I can't say – everybody's like,
05:32oh, yeah, Kyle Long was like, it's not Tua problem.
05:35It's a McDaniel problem.
05:36Listen, bro, Julian Hill was wide the hell open
05:39when he threw that interception, and he was moving that way.
05:42You didn't see that man standing over there with his hand in the air?
05:45Like, it was a lot going on, but nobody was playing well.
05:49It's why I take issue with a lot of fans yesterday
05:52going after Tua, going after Mike McDaniel.
05:55It's everything.
05:57It's everything.
05:57And if you can't accept that, if you continue to ignore the obvious,
06:03Carter, that last drive was the Dolphins in the McDaniel-Greer era
06:08summed up into one drive.
06:10The offensive line with two backups crumbling on that last play
06:15when you need protection, allow Tua to hopefully try to make something happen,
06:18the right side of the line with two backups in week two crumbles,
06:23and Tua gets sacked.
06:23And Mike McDaniel, Larry Borum, and Keyon Smith.
06:2771.
06:2871's name is what?
06:30I think that's Keyon Smith.
06:31That's Keyon Smith.
06:32Keyon Smith.
06:34Listen, Keyon, you got to see me.
06:35If I see you at Publix, you got to see me.
06:38Have you seen Keyon Smith?
06:39Be careful.
06:40Be careful what you wish for.
06:42If you see me at Hawk at Publix, you got to see me, Keyon Smith.
06:45Crowder, he wouldn't be starting, probably not on a team anywhere.
06:51Like, it just, that's what happens.
06:54That's what happens when you don't invest into the offensive line.
06:57And then, Mike McDaniel, the one thing that can't happen,
07:01which is miscommunication, undisciplined plays,
07:05guys not knowing what to do in that situation.
07:07That's the one thing that couldn't happen.
07:09And it's happening in the most important part of the game.
07:12Like, it's literally a microcosm of their entire tenure here on one drive.
07:18Everything falling apart.
07:19Beyond that, the coach looks rattled.
07:23I'm doing the visual game here where, oh, because they're losing,
07:27he looks rattled.
07:28But he does.
07:28He doesn't look like he's in control.
07:31Tua doesn't look close to the way he looked in 2023.
07:34I mean close.
07:35Even when he's, you know, that pass to Waddle, the first touchdown,
07:38excellent throw, that was perfect.
07:40But those are too few and far between.
07:42He just doesn't look like himself.
07:44The drives where he needs to win the game
07:48or get them into position to tie the game,
07:51he just still has an inability to do that.
07:55This is where he should be excelling at that.
07:58And again, offensive line isn't helping him out.
08:01I get that.
08:01Like, there's a lot at play.
08:03Bottom line is there's not just one thing to fix here.
08:07This seems to be an entire team problem.
08:12From the coaching staff on down,
08:15they have to play lawless football to get by a bad team.
08:24That's the, like, they have to play lawless football
08:27to get by a bad team.
08:30Imagine what they're going to have to do Thursday night
08:32to stay in the game.
08:34Just to stay in the game.
08:36Yep.
08:37He sailed one on Tyreek early.
08:40That's when Tyreek snapped on the sideline.
08:42Yep.
08:42And then the under throw to Tyreek.
08:47If he gets that ball out there, Tyreek catches in stride,
08:49he scores seven.
08:50That was a field goal.
08:52So now just, I'm a math.
08:53I'm doing math.
08:55Now you're trying to get a field goal to win the game
08:57and not a touchdown on the buffled drive
09:01and mismanagement of the two-minute.
09:04Like, to your point, Hawk, it has to be perfect football,
09:06but everybody's accountable for this.
09:09That defensive front.
09:10Bro, Raymond Ramondre, what's his name?
09:16He is Eric Dickerson.
09:18He's catching balls out the backfield.
09:21It was crazy.
09:21He's running straight down the middle for six yards a pop.
09:25That was frustrating.
09:27I was listening to it on radio, and I'm like,
09:30it can't be as bad as Joe Rose and Cephalo's making it sound.
09:34So I had to go back and watch it because I had it recorded.
09:37We're not playing good football, period.
09:39I know the score or whatever you want to say.
09:41We're 0-2.
09:42That is not NFL football.
09:45So one of y'all just said,
09:47the guys have to know who's in the huddle.
09:51That's Pop Warner.
09:54What people are in the huddle is Pop Warner.
09:58That was, bro, I don't know if I've been this frustrated
10:01watching a football game, and I watched it recorded,
10:03so now I'm mad listening, and I'm mad watching.
10:06But we should have known, like, I hate to do this,
10:10but, like, we knew this is what was coming.
10:13They didn't look like this.
10:14They have not, in Mike McDaniel's tenure and Tua's tenure,
10:20looked like this when McDaniel and Tua are out there.
10:24They haven't.
10:24I get what you're saying, Hawk, and I'm not disagreeing with you.
10:27Mike McDaniel looking rattled, Tua not looking comfortable under center.
10:32Those things, for sure, weren't common.
10:36But, and maybe that's part of the nerves.
10:38Maybe that's part of the fact that, yesterday, Crowder, you texted us,
10:40this drive is for multiple people's livelihoods, their jobs.
10:44And maybe that's part of it.
10:46But, Hawk, the roster itself,
10:49the fact that Chris Greer has constantly,
10:52while GM, relied on guys who are injury-prone,
10:55and the fact that he refuses to go find depth
11:01at the most important parts of the roster,
11:04offensive and defensive line.
11:05I mean, the script in the NFL to win is out on every great team.
11:09And Chris Greer does not take any sort of action
11:14on the most important parts of the field,
11:17especially when you have an injury-prone quarterback.
11:19And then the secondary, all season,
11:21we're talking about major, major flaws in roster construction there.
11:26And you're seeing it come to fruition.
11:28You're relying on a pass rush,
11:30which ultimately, every team knows,
11:32hey, keep our quarterback upright.
11:35We're going to be good.
11:36We're going to be okay.
11:37You can't stop the run.
11:38You didn't feel Calais Campbell properly.
11:40Like, it's just, all around,
11:43everything is crumbling for this team.
11:45It's unfortunate.
11:46Can't argue it.
11:47But again, I would submit to you,
11:48which is what Chris Greer believed,
11:50which is a healthy Tua
11:52and a reinvigorated Tyreek Hill
11:56and Jalen Waddell and Devon Achan.
11:59He's the only guy who looks great to me, Devon Achan.
12:02Like, he gets the ball in his hands.
12:04He's going to make something happen.
12:06Like, and we talked, I mean,
12:09we thought the front seven was going to be
12:11a stalwart line
12:14that teams would have difficult running on
12:17or they'd be getting to the quarterback a lot
12:20and putting some pressure on him,
12:21alleviating the secondary problems,
12:23which we knew existed.
12:24Like, none of it's panned out.
12:26And I do think there's something to be said.
12:29Play that Kyle Long sound.
12:31Do you have that?
12:31That's Kyle Long.
12:32Was it on CBS?
12:33I think it was on CBS.
12:35This is Kyle Long saying,
12:37hey, there's, like,
12:38this just seems to be
12:40coming from Mike McDaniel
12:44and an issue with,
12:46and man, I mean,
12:48you can't help but listen to him post-game
12:51and wonder what players are thinking
12:53when he talks the way that he talks.
12:56He said,
12:57to win the game, you have to win.
12:59You can't win when you lose.
13:00That's what you're going to tell me
13:04after you've just bumbled the two minutes.
13:07In fairness, though,
13:08Denzel Washington said that
13:09in an Oscar speech once
13:11and you stood up and applauded.
13:14I can't believe I'm going to die on this hill
13:17because I am the only person
13:19who's going to defend Mike McDaniel.
13:21That clip that everybody's cutting,
13:24just those, like,
13:25that two-sentence clip
13:26sounds ridiculous.
13:28But when you listen to everything
13:29he's saying with the context,
13:31I kind of agree what he's saying.
13:33And it sounds funny,
13:34but he wasn't wrong.
13:35Like, it keeps his stuff.
13:37Please explain it.
13:37Play it to me, Solana.
13:38I'll play you the Kyle Long time.
13:39I didn't hear the whole clip.
13:41I'll play you the Kyle Long time.
13:42Play Kyle Long.
13:43Because I think this is,
13:43and Kyle Long, by the way,
13:44friend of the program,
13:46if you recall,
13:46during Super Bowl week,
13:48he went and got beignets
13:49with Josh Chappelle for us at the mall.
13:52The banner flying over the stadium,
13:55it says,
13:55fire Mike McDaniel.
13:56And I just want to make sure
13:58that if you are going to point fingers
14:00in South Florida,
14:01don't do it at Tua.
14:02Because what I saw today
14:03was a quarterback
14:04who was going through his process
14:05and he looked like the guy
14:06we've seen have success previously.
14:09But in terms of leadership,
14:10in terms of organizational organization,
14:13top-down respect, leadership,
14:16I'm not in the building,
14:17but what I can glean
14:18from watching this team on film
14:20and every Sunday now,
14:22they're just not ready to win.
14:24And while they have good players
14:26on their team,
14:26they're not a good team.
14:28I mean, that final sentence to me
14:31is kind of on the money.
14:34While they have good players
14:35on this team,
14:36they're not a good team.
14:39So what is the,
14:41if you had to be the doctor
14:43who diagnoses all the results,
14:46the test results
14:47that you're looking at,
14:49you've got good players,
14:50but they're not a good team,
14:52what exactly do you do with that?
14:54Where do you,
14:55what's the diagnosis?
14:56You have great ingredients
14:57and not a good chef.
14:59We could say it
14:59in a lot of different ways, Hawk.
15:01I think, I think it's all,
15:03it's back on Mike McDaniel.
15:05Yeah.
15:06And I think,
15:07I do believe he's a smart kid.
15:11Now the nerd boy thing
15:12gets to me hearing Rex say it.
15:14I do believe he's a smart football mind.
15:17There's some,
15:17there's some people
15:18that shouldn't lead teams
15:20or,
15:21or certain teams
15:23need a certain type of leader.
15:25It,
15:26it,
15:26I'm not saying that
15:27he could never be successful
15:28as a head coach.
15:30I'm having a tough time
15:31getting to the place
15:32that with this particular
15:33roster construct,
15:35him having success
15:37as a head coach.
15:38But,
15:39but we found out,
15:40you know,
15:41Chris Greer has been open
15:42about this,
15:43that Mike McDaniel
15:44had a say
15:45in the types of players
15:46that Chris Greer
15:48went out and signed.
15:49I don't,
15:49I don't think.
15:50It's interesting.
15:50It's interesting that
15:51they built a team
15:53basically to maximize
15:55his strengths
15:56as a head coach.
15:56And he was this star whisperer,
15:58this superstar whisperer
15:59in the locker room.
16:00And I get it,
16:01man.
16:01Like things kind of
16:02domino,
16:03snowball a little bit
16:05and he's lost control.
16:05But like,
16:06these are the guys
16:07he wanted.
16:08They,
16:08absolutely.
16:09They chose a path
16:11which was nice,
16:13friendly and collaborative.
16:17I remember the press conference
16:19Chris Greer gave
16:20when they let Brian Flores go
16:22and I'm not rewriting history.
16:24I was not a fan of Brian Flores
16:25and I,
16:26I prefer a collaborative approach
16:28to things anyway,
16:29but they were very clear.
16:32Brian Flores was abrasive,
16:34not just to players,
16:36but to the front office.
16:37And they wanted
16:39specifically
16:40a nice guy
16:43who would be collaborative.
16:45And that's who they hired.
16:48It just hasn't worked.
16:50But this was a,
16:51a direct decision.
16:55Like they did,
16:56they,
16:56they said to themselves,
16:57we want to do the opposite.
16:59We want to have the opposite
17:00of what we have
17:01with Brian Flores.
17:03We want a nice guy
17:05who collaborates,
17:07who's not going to scream
17:08and yell in the halls.
17:09And this,
17:11it didn't work,
17:12but this,
17:12this was a choice.
17:14And it's going to,
17:15it's,
17:15it's argumentative.
17:16I was going to say it's not,
17:17it's not argument.
17:18It's very name.
17:19The Brian Flores
17:20that's successful.
17:24Well,
17:24there's a bunch.
17:25I mean,
17:25Brian Flores is successful
17:26in Minnesota
17:27as a defensive coordinator.
17:29Name the McDaniels
17:31that are successful.
17:32The pleasant,
17:33don't yell,
17:34happy to see you guy.
17:35I think it can exist.
17:37I think Tony Dungy,
17:38certainly I'm a Superbowl champion.
17:40So not a,
17:41he was never going to get
17:42in someone's face and scream.
17:43And he was never going to,
17:45I mean,
17:45Brian Flores,
17:46we know had issues
17:47with the general manager
17:49and therefore the owner.
17:50And he,
17:51you know,
17:51like they were looking
17:53for more of the Tony Dungy type,
17:56someone who could coach so well
18:00and do it without being,
18:03do it without being abrasive.
18:05They didn't like
18:06what the facility felt like
18:07when Brian Flores was there.
18:09It was obvious.
18:09They told you.
18:10Yeah.
18:11And I think Flores is an extreme.
18:13Flores is an extreme,
18:14but we talked about the Belichicks
18:16and even like Andy Reid.
18:19Andy Reid is not no,
18:20hey,
18:21let's go out to,
18:21come to my house
18:22for Thanksgiving dinner.
18:23He's no,
18:23he's no guy like that.
18:25Go do your damn job.
18:26We're going to win some games
18:27and get a ring
18:28and we'll be good to go.
18:29I don't understand the take today.
18:31I got this a lot
18:32in my mentions.
18:33Like,
18:34oh,
18:34we all owe Brian Flores
18:36a big apology in Miami.
18:37No.
18:38And I'm not saying
18:39everything went down properly there.
18:40Like,
18:40you know,
18:41I understand there's a lawsuit
18:41at play and whatever.
18:43I don't understand that take.
18:45Like Brian Flores
18:46makes this team better.
18:48Get on the boat with Brady.
18:50Flo,
18:51get on the boat.
18:52What?
18:54Get on the boat with Brady.
18:57Might have been a misstep.
18:58Guy missed the playoff.
19:00I'm not excusing that behavior.
19:02Get on the boat.
19:04Orhawk,
19:05don't win five games.
19:07Don't beat the Bengals
19:08in 2019.
19:09I mean,
19:10we had,
19:11we had 93 different players
19:12that season.
19:13You're cutting anybody
19:14who's making a good play.
19:16You're benching them.
19:17Stop winning games,
19:18guy.
19:19What are you doing?
19:20We could have Joe Burrow.
19:22All right.
19:23We have,
19:23we have a lot to get through today.
19:24We'll make him so he's going to join.
19:26Today's not a good argument.
19:27Hey,
19:28Flo,
19:28did you know
19:29B. John Robinson's
19:30about to get this football?
19:31Right.
19:31Because he's about to get this football.
19:34You take some meeting with Brady.
19:38He makes bad decisions sometimes.
19:40He makes bad decisions.
19:42Will Manso is going to join us today.
19:44John Michaels is going to join us today.

20:48Yeah, man.
20:48The big stories.
20:49Obviously, other than the Dolphins losing,
20:51they're going to play Thursday night.
20:52The Canes blow out USF.
20:54I never want to hear anything about USF ever again.
20:57Genuinely, I never want to hear.
21:00Thank God Miami doesn't play them anymore.
21:02Crowder, UF should cancel them off their schedule too.
21:04Just enough with USF.
21:06UF needs to burn their cleats.
21:09They need to use FIU's leftover garage sale unis.
21:15Don't start with that
21:16because FIU back on top, baby.
21:18Shula Bowl winner.
21:20It's first time since 2016.
21:22Shout out to Willie Simmons.
21:23Big time.
21:24What were they walking off there with?
21:25You sent a picture of it.
21:26Is it like a cadenza?
21:28What is that?
21:30No, it's a trophy, jackass.
21:32What was that?
21:33The winner gets some sort of cadenza?
21:35It's a cadenza bowl.
21:42No, we're not doing that.
21:43We're not doing that.
21:44We're not making fun of FIU today, Jack.
21:46Uh-uh.
21:46What do you put in there?
21:47Like towels or stuff?
21:48After you win the game, you get the cadenza?
21:56Jack, don't do that.
21:57Not today.
21:59Not today, Jack.
22:00Not today.
22:01Paws up.
22:07Game day.
22:08Game day will be in Coral Gables this week, ladies and gentlemen.
22:12In Coral Gables.
22:15That's big time.
22:17We got a double night, double header rather, in Monday night football tonight.
22:23Starting at seven, Texans, Buccaneers.
22:25And then the late game, Raiders versus the Chajas.
22:3010 p.m.
22:30What's it called?
22:31Is it a credenza?
22:32I don't even know what the word is.
22:35Yeah, credenza.
22:38Credenza.
22:38So they got together and they're like, hey, when FIU plays FAU, we need something.
22:43How about like some sort of naugahyde credenza that the winning team can walk away with?
22:51What's the thing that people used to put TVs in and close when we were young?
22:56I mean, it was essentially like a TV credenza.
23:00Why is it six feet tall?
23:06That's not a trophy.
23:08It was like, yeah, it was like a good Greek moving in storage.
23:14Moving the thing across the field.
23:18Celebration door.
23:20That celly went hard, man.
23:22They grabbed the trophy.
23:23They ripped the FAU helmet off of it.
23:26Everybody was stepping on it.
23:27KJ Owens was biting.
23:29The face mask.
23:31They ripped it apart.
23:32That celly went hard, man.
23:34At midnight.
23:34You know what happens?
23:34Like the Stanley Cup where each person gets the credenza for a week.
23:39Yeah, well, we're getting it for a week on the show.
23:41Yeah.
23:41Put some items in there.
23:43It's a time capsule.
23:47And I bury it and dig it up two years later.
23:56I don't know why that popped into my head.
23:58I don't know what you're laughing at, UFN.
24:04I mean, the Gators.
24:06I think a literal credenza might have a better chance against your schedule the next six weeks.
24:13I mean, all your media requests for the next week are just to talk and defend losers.
24:22I left a party in Orlando.
24:24I saw what was about to happen.
24:27And my kids, my wife was there.
24:28I was like, hey, y'all, let's head on out.
24:30Oh, no, we're playing card.
24:31There was other kids there.
24:32I was like, no, let's go ahead and leave.
24:33Because I watched the first half.
24:35And I was like, this ain't going the way we want it to.
24:37You're sitting at the hotel drinking little soup.
24:44The Campbell's Microwavables.
24:45I'm drinking a microwavable Campbell's soup.
24:49Your weather.
24:50It is a gorgeous day right now, ladies and gentlemen.
24:54No rain.
24:55So I'll take it.
24:56Back to you.
24:57Pitbull Stadium now being called the Armoire.
