00:00The refs are up.
00:03Case down.
00:06Deegan on the inside battling with Tom Vial.
00:09And Deegan able to secure the progressive hole shot.
00:12Joe Shimoda right there.
00:15Yeah, we talk about these guys, Chet and Hayden,
00:17and what is the difference?
00:18They perform in the times where it matters the most.
00:22We talked about how starts are so important, James,
00:25and look who's out front.
00:27Yeah, well, you heard him and you saw his face.
00:29That dude was locked in.
00:31But I will say this, the number 30 of Joe Shimoda
00:33has been working on his opening lap intensity.
00:35We saw him do that in pro motocross.
00:37He got better and better.
00:38Although I see that number one sliding away,
00:40Joe Shimoda's been a lot better in early part of the races, Jason.
00:43And you've got some Kawasaki riders battling here.
00:46So Seth Hamaker, who crossed the finish line second to the race
00:49last week at Charlotte, battling it out.
00:52It's that Master Pole who came out of the wildcard race.
00:55Bad game pick in the 26th.
00:57What's third?
00:58Let's start outside looking really good right now faster.
01:01He gained some time even though he wasn't able to make the pass.
01:04I do believe the outside line was faster in the switch lane.
01:07Yeah, we saw a lot of guys struggling with a lot of, you know,
01:10tires set up and it was slipping and sliding.
01:12So, Ricky, as you said earlier, it's going to be hard to pass.
01:15And that was a key moment right there.
01:16He got close, but he wasn't able to get it.
01:18And now you start to see that gap separate.
01:20And the same thing up front, James, as Deegan has put two seconds into Shimoda and the rest of the field already.
01:26There's Master Pole working on Hamaker.
01:28Well, James, I can tell you going back to our days and maybe this will relate to our people tuned in here today.
01:35The SMX World Championship playoffs, man.
01:38When I could see you pulling away, it really worked on my mental psyche in a negative way because I knew you could go the distance.
01:46And when you're giving it your all and you can't hang on to your competitor, I can definitely play mind games.
01:53Well, good, it worked.
01:54Yeah, that's what I was trying to do.
01:56But sometimes I would end up pushing it too much.
01:58You'd be like, dude, that guy laying on the ground over here.
02:02Pressure is on Shimoda to try to keep pace.
02:04Now it's 2.3 seconds.
02:06We got the Tron Ares drone camera.
02:09Check that out.
02:10Tron Ares, the new movie.
02:12October 10th exclusively in theaters as they run underneath the annex here at the dome.
02:17Yeah, this is going to be new for these guys because normally in the Supercross, these guys run 15 minutes.
02:22You know, one race.
02:23They run a heat race and then 15 minutes.
02:25They're going to have two 20-minute motos tonight.
02:27So I think conditions going to play in.
02:29So although Hayden Deegan has a 2.3-second lead, as this race goes on, this track will slow down
02:34and maybe we see Joe start closing that gap up along with all these other guys.
02:38I agree with you.
02:39I feel, too, if Joe's able to maintain the gap, keep it within this 2 to 3-second range until about halfway,
02:46I think we'll see a battle to the end if he's able to keep Hayden within sight here early on.
02:52No, I agree.
02:53And just so you know, Hayden Deegan is trying to execute his plan.
02:56It's like, you know, a football team.
02:57They're trying to get the score early.
02:59They want to get the ball and score.
03:01That's what Hayden Deegan is trying to do.
03:02Joe Shimoda is trying to keep this thing.
03:04So get in the second half, get in that fourth quarter to have a shot at winning this.
03:08So both these guys are doing exactly what they want to do as this race goes on.
03:12We're going to see who ends up winning.
03:13All right.
03:14So there is Deegan right now.
03:15It's nearly three seconds as he continues to pull away from Shimoda.
03:19There in the red number 30, Will.
03:21I'd be interested, Jason, to hear what Ricky and James have to say about Joe Shimoda
03:27and how he's different from perhaps some of the other riders in the 250 class
03:31as far as that mentality goes that you guys were just talking about.
03:34Because I've spoken to his team and they talk a lot about keeping Joe in the moment
03:38and letting him just chip away at things, deal with this race, deal with Moto 2,
03:43and then, you know, the championship comes later.
03:46I feel like he's a little bit different in that,
03:48and that might just keep him a bit closer to Hayden Deegan.
03:50Yeah, no, I agree.
03:51I mean, last weekend was a perfect example of him, maybe rushing it.
03:54I mean, you think about him getting third.
03:57He could have won that race.
03:58He had the pace and especially with all the confidence.
04:00So Honda's telling him exactly what I was saying.
04:02Dude, you just got to stay close.
04:04And if I'm Yamaha, I'm telling Hayden Deegan, get away from him,
04:07because we know the 30 is always there.
04:09A lot of riders intrigued.
04:11Is it a little bit different type of track than we normally see
04:13when Monster Energy Supercross comes to town in St. Louis?
04:16Here are Shimoda's thoughts on the layout.
04:20There's actually only one rhythm that's really supercross,
04:23so I don't know how it's going to be.
04:26There's a lot of big doubles, and, yeah, I don't know.
04:29Actually, it's a tighter motocross track, I would say.
04:32So we'll see. We'll see. It's different.
04:37Well, they're trying to make it different.
04:39You see some of the different soil thrown down that dark soil here
04:41as Masterpool continues the pursuit of Hamaker.
04:45We'll see what race is out.
04:47Well, it's certainly a lot faster pace in a regular supercross race for sure.
04:52And, of course, they don't have the whoops in this racetrack like they would have
04:55at a normal supercross race.
04:57But I like this track.
04:59I think from a racer's standpoint, James, you and I were talking about this off-air,
05:03is if you're out front, it's a really fun track to ride.
05:07But if you're trying to make a move and trying to pass, I feel like it has a sense
05:11that it might race a little bit tight.
05:13No, I agree with you.
05:14And, again, we go back to Masterpool.
05:16He almost got around his teammate, but because he hasn't, now he's stuck behind him.
05:20But I think that feeling where the track still feels like a supercross track and tight for them,
05:25is because last weekend we were in a speedway, you know, a drag strip.
05:28It was wide open, over a two-minute lap time.
05:31So now these guys naturally get back into a supercross dome.
05:34It's just going to feel tight even though the track is a lot more spaced out than a normal supercross track.
05:38I really like this camera angle right here overhead because you can see the different lines,
05:43contrasting lines that say maybe Masterpool and Hamaker are taking.
05:48You talked about that section, James, where the mulch is, where that real dark dirt is.
05:55It is tricky because it's soft and fluffy on top, and then that hard base is slick.
06:00Yeah, and they did a little bit of track work, so they mixed it in.
06:03So it's going to be the most together.
06:05It won't be as slippery right now, but as this day goes on, you're going to watch those shiny stuff.
06:09You're starting to see it right now.
06:11Pay attention to that.
06:12That mulch sand is going to get really slippery for these guys.
06:15So Hamaker here in third had the big lead at this point in the race last week
06:20and gave up that 11-second gap to dig in.
06:23Here are his thoughts on that.
06:25Absolutely.
06:26Yeah, it was a bummer.
06:28I should have definitely had that one, I feel like.
06:30And also, I lost five points with jumping on the red lights.
06:33So, yeah, five points in this championship is a ton.
06:36And I'll use that motivation for this weekend, but definitely not pumped or happy.
06:41And we've got a new, fresh start tomorrow.
06:46And that's all I'm kind of looking forward to.
06:48And like I said, using that motivation for tomorrow and trying to get that win.
06:54I kind of agree with him there, like having a chance to win because he was riding so well.
07:00And then, but not to take anything away from Hayden.
07:02I mean, Hayden really chewed into that lead that had.
07:05I wasn't anticipating that.
07:06But I feel like Hamaker still has a legit shot to run up front here in battle with Hayden and Joe.
07:13I mean, he's not far off Joe right now.
07:16Going to need a mistake to get back in there.
07:18And then a little bit further back, you've got Masterpol and Bial still in the fight, JT.
07:23Yeah, you see Tom Bial coming into the screen there.
07:26And in this week's edition of Scoop Tire Journal, Tom Bial's the only rider that decided to go with the Scoop Tire.
07:32Although it should be noted, Hayden Deegan and his team and his father were in heavy discussions
07:38all the way up until the parade lap about whether to switch to that Scoop Tire or not.
07:43I believe that Hayden actually wanted to go to it.
07:46They ended up not.
07:47Hayden made the most of it, got the whole shot anyway.
07:50Well, I've spent a lot of time on the track today for both the 250 and 450 seeded practice,
07:56both qualifying sessions, James.
07:58And because the sand is so minimal, and then you talk about this hard base right here
08:03in this Zach section where Tom is, there's no shot I'm going paddle tire
08:09because there's just so much other parts of the track where you're going to need, you know,
08:14a regular tire and not a scoop tire.
08:16Got a battle here between Davies and Thrasher.
08:19The teammates here 7th and 8th, James.
08:21No, I agree with you, Ricky.
08:22And I think at this point, you've got to, if you're the other guys outside Hayden,
08:25you've got to change.
08:26You've got to try something.
08:27So, you know, look, we know what the paddle tire does.
08:30We know what the scoop.
08:31All of them do.
08:32I would rather agree with you.
08:33Like, look, I need that thing working so I can at least push it around
08:36some of these slippery spots, not only just worry about the sand.
08:39And, you know, at this point, you've just got to get it done.
08:42Because right now, Hayden Deacon's getting it done out front almost eight seconds.
08:45Yeah.
08:46I mean, he's putting on a riding clinic a lot like you used to us back in the day.
08:51And it just...
08:52Unbelievable.
08:53Something else, yeah.
08:54Yeah.
08:55But again, it's no surprise.
08:56It's just, this is what great champions do in times like this.
09:00They know, James, you talked about it, double points, a lot more on the line here this weekend.
09:05And if he's able to win this race and then win the next moto and get that overall,
09:10he's going to have a little bit of breathing room next week going to Vegas.
09:13Watching Davies battling it out with Thrasher.
09:17Oh, and then a battle right behind.
09:18Max Esti getting in there with an IT of Jordan Smith.
09:21It's a little early to send him into the popcorn seat.
09:24But eventually, he might get him some popcorn in a minute.
09:27So, yeah, it's good to see Max back.
09:29He just came back from an injury.
09:30And this guy was...
09:31We thought he was going to have an opportunity to win that Supergirl championship.
09:34Oh, yeah.
09:35And then obviously got hurt.
09:36So, good to see him back along with his teammate right at a position in front of Cole Davies.
09:41Another guy coming back from an injury.
09:42So, top ten for all of them.
09:44Good to see.
09:45But Thrasher actually made the move on Davies.
09:46Sorry there, RC.
09:47As Anstey puts some pressure on Smith.
09:50Thrasher one of the few riders to make all the races this year.
09:53And it's starting to pay off for the points as Smith and Anstey still battle.
09:57I really love this racetrack.
10:01I mean, again, it's...
10:02When I say I love it, I love the dirt.
10:04This dirt is like perfect.
10:05If you could think of what a perfect mixture of cake batter is, this is this racetrack right here.
10:11It has perfect consistency.
10:12It has perfect consistency.
10:13It's not too hard, not too soft.
10:14And this, in history, everyone has loved this place because of that.
10:18I'm telling you, Thrasher is on the gas here.
10:21He obviously likes this dirt, RC.
10:22He has caught and passed Davies and now going after Levi Kitchen.
10:27He was fast.
10:28Remember in qualifying practice earlier today.
10:30Yeah.
10:31The first session at least.
10:32And this is one of those guys, I mean, he's always showed us great hope.
10:36He's won some showdowns, I believe.
10:38Yeah.
10:39Triple crown as well.
10:40And the guy has some serious speed.
10:42And he's...
10:43Oh, Deegan!
10:44Did Deegan make a mistake?
10:45But slow getting out of that corner.
10:47Maybe he went down.
10:48We'll see what the gap is between here and Shimoda.
10:50He did fall.
10:51Luckily, he had built up that nine-second lead.
10:53And Shimoda is still not in the shot.
10:55Yeah, this race could have been put away.
10:57I think Joe probably was looking towards that second moto.
10:59But from the looks of it, I bet Deegan came in at a little high and missed that run.
11:04Probably just lost the front end and tipped over.
11:06I don't think he stalled the motorcycle because he's still almost fast four seconds.
11:09But that's going to give that hope to Joe Shimoda.
11:12And we know how strong he is at the end of the race.
11:14Yeah, that's exactly right, James.
11:16Sometimes you just crack that door a little bit.
11:19What happens here?
11:20Most of these guys are going to the outside here all day long.
11:23Oh!
11:24Yep, yep.
11:25You saw that front end get over that run.
11:28And, you know, at this point, Hayden had this race control.
11:31But, again, he was able to get up, really heads up, keeping that bike running.
11:35Still has a lead.
11:36But now the heart rate is going to shoot up, Ricky, and he's got to calm down.
11:40Well, that's right.
11:41And the thing is, now he's probably going to try to have to sprint to build that gap again that he had.
11:46And it's going to be tough to do.
11:47But that's an easy mistake to make right there.
11:50Probably suspension unloaded as he started to accelerate through that rut.
11:54The front end got light and just carried over the rut.
11:57Let's see if Shimoda can continue now to move toward Deegan as the battle resumes between Kitchen, who dominated this race as a Monster Energy Supercross round a year ago.
12:08Swept the Triple Crown, but he did it with hole shots.
12:11Starts have not been as good for him this year.
12:13And now he's got more pressure from Thrasher.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Nate is coming.
12:18And you can tell by Levi's body language right now.
12:20He's kind of standing up a little bit.
12:22Looks like his chest protector, one side of his came loose.
12:25I don't know if he caught that or tipped over.
12:27But nonetheless, Nate Thrasher is coming up.
12:29And you've got Tommy out right in front of him.
12:31So, as you've mentioned, Jason, last time we were here, Levi dominated and said, I thought he would be strong.
12:36And he was strong earlier today, but he's got his hands full.
12:39Good qualifying, Will.
12:41Yeah, see how it's going for the 47.
12:43And he was full of confidence earlier, guys, when I spoke to him.
12:46He was thinking back to winning that Triple Crown.
12:48And he said, oh, yeah, that's very much in my head.
12:51And he's like, I think I can do super well here tonight.
12:53He talked about running up front.
12:55But interestingly enough, he also said to me, he's like, I think it's going to take a top three start to get this done.
13:00And as you said, that did not happen.
13:02How challenging is that for these guys when they're just not racing against the guys they're expecting to right up front?
13:08Oh, and almost over the bars there, Will.
13:11Landed that sand wall.
13:12You see how they're jumping into the sand?
13:14If they go a split too far and they don't land perfectly in that rut, it's going to be danger.
13:21Yeah.
13:22And you just saw it.
13:23I mean, he landed and almost looked like he hit neutral.
13:25But what he did, that bike was spinning up.
13:27That tire was spinning up.
13:28He thought the bike would continue to go forward.
13:30It wouldn't.
13:31It almost did a little nose.
13:32It was Willie right there.
13:33Flipped over to front.
13:34But good save by Levi.
13:35It's tough.
13:36Y'all still right in front of them.
13:37Top five.
13:38I'll watch these guys this bike through this back section and the sand section.
13:42And you can see it really bouncing exiting the corners.
13:45And I think the reason that is, is because they have this super cross setting in and it's
13:49so stiff.
13:50It's not very compliant for the accelerating ruts or bumps coming out of the ruts.
13:55It's a lot fried.
13:56Yeah.
13:57Most people will want to be like, why don't they just soften up?
13:59But they can't because of this rhythm section.
14:01They've got to keep it going.
14:02Oh, he's keeping it going right out now on VL.
14:05Hey folks, you can play SMX for cash.
14:08Super motocross is now live on the top sportsbook and DFS platforms.
14:12Scan the flow code or visit nextbets.com slash playsmx to see what's available at your location.
14:20Sign up and claim exclusive offers.
14:22Here's an offer around the outside.
14:24Maybe fifth place for kitchen and he's got it.
14:27That was a nice pass.
14:28And you go back to that one lap ago.
14:29He almost fell over the front end.
14:30Now he comes back and makes the pass on Tom Vial.
14:33But a couple laps, he was worried about Nate Thrasher coming up behind him.
14:36But that just shows he went from the defense to the offense and he started moving forward.
14:41I like these outside lines that Levi's running.
14:43He's keeping that momentum up.
14:44And as this track gets slippery, having that momentum, that non-stopping go is going to help him
14:49out.
14:50I like the 47 way he's looking, Ricky.
14:52Riding good, charging, made a good pass on Tom.
14:55Looks like Tom's sadly going the wrong direction here.
15:00He looks like he's pretty hesitant.
15:02I don't know if something's going on there, but definitely not riding the pace.
15:05He was riding early on.
15:06Yeah, here comes Thrasher looking to make the move as well.
15:08We'll give you the Rocky Mountain ATV team update.
15:12As Thrasher looks for a wheel on the inside and makes the move on Vial.
15:17It's honestly pretty similar to the way Vial's first moto went last time out at Charlotte.
15:21Ran around the podium early and then started drifting back.
15:24Team update is on Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, brought to you by Rocky Mountain ATVMC.com.
15:29They got Hamaker third.
15:31Kitchen now moving up.
15:32And Masterpool, a solid ride in fourth.
15:35Adam's 13th.
15:36Marchbanks riding with a twisted knee that he injured last week.
15:39He's just trying to persevere from points.
15:41He is in 15th, but at least he's out on the track.
15:44Well, I'm surprised that Marchbanks is even out there.
15:48He took a gnarly hit last weekend when I saw the presser come out that he was going to be competing this weekend.
15:54I was like, wow, that was super impressive.
15:56Yeah, I think you go with all these guys, but what's impressive, Jason, is this guy right here.
16:00And he started to pull back away, James, 5.7 seconds.
16:03Now, the good news is Marchbanks able to go with his sore knee, but we did have some bad news from qualifying.
16:08Austin Fortner was building such a great story.
16:11The oft-injured one-time prodigy made it to all the races this year, but dabbed his leg in qualifying today.
16:18Hurt the knee.
16:19They don't know what the status is, but he is not racing tonight.
16:22Hope that he gets checked out and is okay.
16:25And more passes on VL as Davies goes right by.
16:29Yeah, as you mentioned, we've seen this happen last weekend, and I think there's something going on with Tom VL outside of just even with him.
16:36I don't know what's going on in Belief in the bike or whatnot, but he's definitely not looking like the Supercross champion, back-to-back Supercross champion it is.
16:43And you can tell when a rider starts looking around.
16:45He's laboring.
16:46Yeah, he is.
16:47And it don't look like he's tired to me.
16:49It just looks like he's something he's uncomfortable.
16:52Yeah, he's not able to push.
16:54That's for sure.
16:55And I thought I noticed it, you know, when Levi was going to make a pass.
17:00I'm like, well, Levi is riding really well right now.
17:03But, yeah, he's, that's a lot of time he's lost in the last three laps.
17:07So hopefully everything is all right.
17:09It's nothing too crazy, but.
17:12So, again, so similar to the way it turned out last week in that first moto as well.
17:16He just said last week he was really not comfortable in the pro motocross section.
17:21His track is completely different than that.
17:23As you watch the 100 of Davies battling it out with Anstey right now.
17:27This is 7th and 8th.
17:28Yeah, you can see those guys starting to push it really close to those tough blocks right there.
17:33Because of the way this track is going, the corners getting a little bit more blown out.
17:36And as the night goes on, it's going to get that shiny stuff that looks like it's a hotline.
17:41They're going to be struggling to stay on the racetrack.
17:43Man, I'd love to see Cole Davies get a good start in this second moto.
17:48And at least be top three and see what he can do with a good start.
17:52Because I just go back to Supercross season earlier when he was showing us some.
17:56Oh!
17:57Yeah, a big quad there.
17:58Quad from Anstey.
17:59I saw Justin Cooper do that in practice and that was a big jump.
18:04Yeah, but look how much time he gained.
18:07But when you talk about how difficult this racetrack is to pass, he caught him.
18:11And then now he lost that time on there because he was so close to JT.
18:14Yeah, and James, I think it's going to be a situation where he's going to close that back down.
18:19And we forget about how good Max Anstey was to start off this 2025 campaign.
18:25And he was the odds-on favorite to win this championship a couple of rounds in.
18:29Unfortunately, injury takes him out of it.
18:31But he's had time to prepare.
18:32He's had time to get his confidence back.
18:34And, guys, I think he's one start away for fighting from the podium before we close this thing out in Las Vegas.
18:39Yeah, I agree.
18:40But at the same time, it's a hard position to be in where Max is or any guy coming from injury at the end of this in this playoff run.
18:48Because you're like Bill to come back and race these races.
18:51So you want to continue that build.
18:52You only got one more race after this.
18:54So the last thing you want to do is go out and push it too early and get hurt.
18:57Then you ruin your off-season.
18:58Then that affects you next year.
19:00So although he might, if you've got to start, you want to push it at the same time, he's got to be careful with that, Will.
19:06And also to add to that, James, this was not a regular recovery either.
19:10He lost an additional two months of what he thought he was going to be off the bike for.
19:15Because when they broke the leg, his leg, he did not have surgery.
19:19He was told by the doctors, by several doctors, he did not need it.
19:22And then a reassessment after pain while he was riding and just it not healing.
19:26He then had to go back in.
19:28So Max's frustration and maybe it's working in his favor as he attacks the track hit.
19:32It's because he just lost in two months.
19:34It's a lot of their season to lose.
19:36And he had to then reset and start again.
19:38Well, if he continues to put on these rides, James, you know what it does for the mental side of things.
19:44You start building that confidence.
19:46Like last weekend, you're going to get a seventh.
19:48This weekend, you're going to get a fifth or a fourth.
19:50And then those turn into podiums and wins.
19:53And, yeah, going back to what JT said, I mean, he was so impressive in that 250 East division earlier on this year.
20:01And I certainly had him as a favorite.
20:03He didn't even look like he was trying.
20:05And he was class of the field.
20:07Yep.
20:08And it went down, I believe that was, at Birmingham.
20:10There's Davies still holding him off.
20:12And Deegan, the gap really didn't change that much.
20:14It was about four seconds after he went down.
20:17And it's controllable.
20:195.3 right now over Shimoda.
20:21Yeah, we came on air and I said there's moments of the season and moments of the race.
20:25And whether the moment is going to be for a guy like Joe Shimoda and maybe in the 450 class,
20:29whether they really believe that they could beat these guys, Jett Lawrence and hey, Deegan,
20:34I'm impressed what this dude's doing because all day long the lifetimes have been really close.
20:38I mean, at one point we had the top 20 within two seconds.
20:41And that's rare on a Supergots track.
20:43But the way Hayden came out, his face told you everything you needed to know when we interviewed him.
20:49He was focused.
20:50He got the whole shot.
20:51He came out.
20:52He executed.
20:53Even went down and pulled away.
20:55This is a huge statement race for Hayden Deegan.
20:58It might be a title blow for Joe Shimoda if he can't recover and come back this next race for all these guys.
21:03And we'll see, you know, we'll see how Joe is able to react if he's not going to be phased mentally from this.
21:10And like you were talking at the top of the show and like as well for me, when I think about Hayden,
21:15it's like, yes, these guys do have an opportunity to beat him and they have the speed at times.
21:20But overall, I mean, Hayden knows what's at stake.
21:23He knows it's double points and he knows if he wants to put a seal.
21:26I just assume if he wants to put a seal on this championship, winning tonight is going to put him in a great spot to do.
21:33Last lap here for Deegan Jameson.
21:35He's got it under control.
21:36Yeah, no, he's got it under control.
21:37I mean, there's another motor.
21:39But we talked off camera, me and Ricky, and just to what you were saying, sometimes the most important race to win a title is not the last one.
21:45It's the one before to get you just in case something happens.
21:48So I think Hayden has been extra focused tonight because he knows if he gets these race wins, the points are going to be one thing.
21:55But again, just having a little bit of buffer is so important for those guys.
21:58And it's got that he has 5.7 seconds.
22:01If you hold it to the end, it actually the biggest margin he's had at the end of one of these playoff races,
22:05which is shocking because he has been dominant by any definition of the word in the playoffs, won the title in 2023,
22:12won all but one Moto in 2024 and looking to win them all early in 2025 as well.
22:18Hayden Deegan wins Moto one St. Louis Playoff two.
22:232025 here Shimoda got the good start, just simply couldn't keep digging in sight.
22:30And we'll have to settle for a second in Moto one.
22:32They'll be back in a bit for the second race as the 450 riders now get ready on the line for their first race.
22:39First race.
22:40First race.
22:41First race.
22:42First race.
