00:00There's a Heimus and Deegan, a rematch from last week. Let's go!
00:09Looks like Deegan and his teammate Nate Thrasher battling for the hole shot.
00:13Thrasher on the 41 has it. Look at the 16 up the inside.
00:16Tom Vielle and the Australian Caden Menear. Second pro race going for it as well.
00:21Oh, I've been waiting for this to happen. Good to see Nate out front.
00:24And quickly as that, Hayden Deegan moves his way up to the second position.
00:28So, great start for the star, Yamaha. These guys are out front. So many things going on.
00:35Yeah, well, 1, 2, 3. Hard to call them all. Yes, it's now Thrasher, Deegan, and Menear.
00:40We mentioned Vielle. A good start by Drew Adams.
00:43Good to see the rookie right there. I think he just made some more passes.
00:47Yeah, Drew made his way around. Caden Menear actually looked like Tom Vielle.
00:51Good start for him. Both these rookies up here trying to do some things.
00:55And Caden Menear, which is a young one. Last weekend was his first race.
00:59So, got his teammates, which he rides with every single, every day during the week.
01:03Let's see what he can do with it.
01:05Let's watch Deegan, who is right there battling.
01:09I was trying to find where Thrasher was.
01:11Those lines JT was talking about, that outside, inside, so wide, this racetrack.
01:15And there it is.
01:18They worked on some of this.
01:19It looks like Hayden's going to try to go around the outside.
01:21It's going to funnel back down.
01:23Let's see if Nate can close that off.
01:24A lot of ruts down here, which you can't see.
01:26But number one, it's up to inside already.
01:28And into the lead already.
01:31So, Deegan to the number one spot.
01:33Back section of the track about to emerge at the top of the hill.
01:38Yeah, it looks like we lost Cade Menear.
01:40It looks like he goes down.
01:41And that moves Drew Adams up to third place.
01:43So, good to see the rookie up here.
01:47Yeah, there you see the green machine, the monster, Pro Circuit Kawasaki in third.
01:51What's the goal for Deegan now?
01:53Get away?
01:53Yeah, I mean, I think after last weekend, going 2-2, which is a great day for most,
01:58but not good enough for Hayden Deegan.
02:00This is exactly where he wants to be.
02:01When you go back to last year, he got bad starts.
02:03So, this is new to him.
02:04Normally, this is after 15 minutes.
02:06But I suspect Hayden Deegan is going to throw down the gauntlet right here,
02:10try to get a little gap and manage it from that point.
02:12Well, here's what's interesting.
02:13It's the first time Deegan has led the first lap of a race this year.
02:17He's been awfully patient early in these races and then works his way forward today out front early.
02:23Katie?
02:24Well, the team was telling me that Hayden Deegan had that kind of pressure off of his back, guys.
02:28It was like that winning streak was gone.
02:30And so, he didn't have to worry about having that perfect season.
02:33But, in fact, that's something that I think is really interesting, Stu,
02:36from a writer's perspective.
02:38The fact that that streak is over for him,
02:39doesn't he maybe want to start that streak again and see when he can, you know,
02:43kind of come alive with it?
02:44Yeah, he almost came off the track with it right there.
02:47But, yeah, I think for Hayden, it's one thing losing a winning streak, you know,
02:51on your own mistake.
02:52But it's another one getting beat.
02:53And I think with him, you know, it's pretty easy for him to refocus
02:56because, oh, the way it happened last week, he was trying to chase down Chance
03:00as we were watching Levot try to get around his teammate right here for third place.
03:05But, back to Hayden, he takes a look back.
03:07I think he's just easy to just go back out there and win because that's where he belongs at.
03:10And it's a great way to start another streak up by being out front.
03:15You saw Kitchen make the move on Adams.
03:17You mentioned, James.
03:18This is at least better.
03:19This Pro Circuit team, they have been fast,
03:21but they have not been able to get good starts together.
03:24Oh, that's actually Hamaker up there.
03:26So, we've lost both Muneer and Drew Adams, the two rookies who started well.
03:31First lap, not kind to them.
03:33But, anyway, this is at least some progress off the gate
03:36to see Kitchen and Hamaker third and fourth early.
03:39Yeah, I mean, this would be a great start.
03:41I mean, we saw Levot finish the motos last weekend.
03:44He was really confident.
03:46One, how he finished that moto, but his fitness, everything was coming good.
03:49And the weekend before, he was able to get third.
03:51So, I like when I see Levi Kitchen opening up the kitchen for business for free.
03:55Only problem is, he's got to chase down at number one,
03:58which is looking back, already trying to get away from him.
04:00And then there's Nate Thrasher in second.
04:02A bad weekend last weekend.
04:04A crash the weekend before that at Hangtown.
04:06It has been a very rough start to Pro Motocross.
04:09He's running well.
04:10And now it looks like the 16 of the Owl
04:13starting to come back to life in orange on the Red Bull KTM.
04:16Yeah, we heard Seth talk before the moto.
04:18He has a shoulder injury.
04:19So, with this racetrack, these downhills are probably going to be really tough for him.
04:23So, if you see him starting to struggle,
04:25these guys have been able to catch up on him as he's moving downhill.
04:28You've got to believe that's partly of that shoulder.
04:30So, it's going to be a tough day for Nate.
04:31If he can just survive these opening laps, that shoulder will loosen up,
04:34and then he'll be able to maybe catch a toe with these guys.
04:36Now, meanwhile, Muneer, who was up there early, is 15th, and Drew Adams is 23rd.
04:45Muneer, you mentioned that he turned pro last week.
04:47He still had his amateur suspension because he had not ridden the pro bike.
04:51It was such a late call-up.
04:52And then they had a lot of rain at home.
04:53So, this is actually his debut racing with the real pro-level stiffer suspension.
04:59Would have been interesting to see what he could do.
05:01But then the crash after running 2nd early, follow Villal here in 5th.
05:06Yeah, well, just, you know, speaking on that,
05:08I know that's a big change for, you know, anyone to make that change
05:11because it is a lot different amateur bumps compared to the pro bump.
05:14So, we're watching some passes being made right here.
05:16I think that's Casey Cochran, I believe.
05:18And Jalik Smoll.
05:20Yeah.
05:21Yeah, 22.
05:22Yep.
05:22Smoll, welcome back.
05:23Yeah.
05:24When I see that 22, I think I'm on board Chad Reed.
05:26So, you know, good to see Jalik out here.
05:29You know, a lot of things are probably going to happen for him fast
05:31because he's been out.
05:32But, yeah, just that suspension change, as Casey Muneer has to deal with,
05:36it's going to be a big change because the amateur bumps are a lot smaller.
05:38So, making that change here, not having a lot of time,
05:41I'm sure it's going to be a lot to get used to a Fertifurki.
05:44Let's see if he can move forward.
05:45As you're watching the Honda teammates here,
05:47Shimoda and Haimus.
05:49Haimus has had great starts this year.
05:51Three hole shots and six motos.
05:53But, so I didn't get the jump in this one.
05:55JT.
05:57Yeah, speaking of that, Weegee, you know, talking about the jump,
05:59it seems like so many of these guys have been so start dependent.
06:03And most of the time it's been for the net positive.
06:05Shimoda had such a strong start to the series with reasonably good starts.
06:09Haimus, we saw how powerful that could be last weekend.
06:12But the one rider who really hasn't been subject to any of that
06:15has been Hayden Deegan.
06:16And then you glance up at the points and you start to understand why he has a 25-point lead.
06:20And also, James, I just wanted to throw out there the phrase,
06:23my boy Chad Reed is something I never, ever thought you would say in this lifetime.
06:27So, well done on that one.
06:29Everybody's changed.
06:30It's Father's Day weekend, Chad.
06:31What up?
06:32But everybody's got to change.
06:33But, you know, nonetheless, I think this is what we talked about in Race Day Live
06:36when you talk about Chance Haimus.
06:37To be a title threat, I think it's important for him to move his way up through these guys.
06:42Because the only way you're going to be a title threat for Hayden,
06:45you might not be able to beat him this first moto because Hayden's out front.
06:48But you've got to finish behind him.
06:50And the only way you can be able to do that is to be able to pass these group of riders.
06:53And as JT said, a lot of these guys will start dependent.
06:56So let's see if Chance, that 1-1, gave him that confidence
06:58as his teammates trying to get around Casey Cochran right in front of him.
07:03Cochran on that Rockstar Gas Gas.
07:04He is not making it easy on Shimoda.
07:07No, Casey's been running really good.
07:08I ran into him at the airport.
07:09And he said just being up front, he's starting to learn that pace.
07:13And coming off the injury, it's tough for you if you're not out here racing all year long,
07:17which he hasn't.
07:19He's going to get confidence.
07:20And he's going to be hard to pace to beat.
07:22And Joe Shimoda's finding that right now.
07:25Bottom box is the leader, Deegan, who has opened it up to 5.5 seconds over Thrasher.
07:31Kitchen in third.
07:32A little bit further back is this battle.
07:34Hymas on the 10.
07:36Got March Banks.
07:37Oh, yeah.
07:38Yeah.
07:38On 14 for Garrett, this has been a similar story all year long.
07:42And he's been riding really good to be able to make his way up,
07:44at least a lot of times in the top five, finishing third overall last weekend.
07:48Great second moto getting eighth after going down to the first corner.
07:51But can't start in the back if you're trying to get up and win these races.
07:55And maybe some of the results doesn't show how good Garrett's been riding all year long.
07:59A little bit in defense of that Pro Circuit team with the bad starts.
08:02Adams, Kitchen, and March Banks.
08:06They might be the three heaviest guys in this field.
08:09Kitchen really tall.
08:10The other two are pretty stout as Shimoda and Cochran continue to battle.
08:14Nice line by the 30 of Shimoda.
08:16Yeah, that was beautiful.
08:18And that's the one thing that I love about here at Mount Morris is that it opens up a lot of corners,
08:22especially if it's not rutted.
08:24These guys can move around.
08:26And Shimoda makes the pass.
08:27As for Hymas right behind them.
08:29Give you a replay.
08:30Oh, Shimoda down to the bottom of the hill.
08:33Yeah, easily can happen.
08:34What you can't tell on TV how steep that corner is.
08:36And Joe was just trying to get down to that inside rut.
08:39Because there's a really good inside rut that these guys can bank off.
08:42It's going to be costly for Joe.
08:43Now, as Folland and Masterpool battle past Shimoda, we'll show you Hymas' start here in the box.
08:51Yeah, we're watching for the overhead shot.
08:54And you can tell off the gate he didn't get the jump.
08:55And when he didn't get the jump, he got closed off.
08:58And that's all she wrote.
08:59And so now he's going to be a salmon swimming upstream at this point trying to move around.
09:03And then here's Shimoda's crash.
09:05Yeah, Joe's right here.
09:06He's trying to get.
09:07It looks like he tries to move over to the inside.
09:09You can see his front tire just pops over that rut.
09:12There's one where a chance there was an inside rut that Joe was trying to get to.
09:16Didn't happen.
09:17Easy way to lose the front end there.
09:18And that's going to be costly for him.
09:20J.T.?
09:22Yeah, just watching that Joe's motor crash.
09:24We saw a similar type of crash from Cooper Webb in qualifying practice.
09:28Same corner, different line.
09:30But it's coming down that hill.
09:31It's so steep there.
09:32And they're putting so much pressure on the front end there.
09:35If you lose traction even for a split second with that front tire, you end up on your head.
09:39So those guys have to be really mindful in those sections to really practice their technique,
09:44get their body English, and really weight that front tire to make sure that they don't slip at all.
09:48Yeah, absolutely.
09:49And what makes it even more difficult, a lot of these corners are off-camber.
09:52And what that means is, like, if you're walking, all of us have walked up the side of a hill.
09:56Well, if you just try to walk up a hill and then try to walk sideways, that's what off-camber it is.
10:00So your feet are always slipping away.
10:02That's what happens to Joe.
10:03Losing that front end goes down.
10:06Easy to happen.
10:07A couple of battles to watch here.
10:08You've got the teammates, Kitchen and Hammaker, in the bottom box battling for third, trying to close on Thrasher.
10:15And in this top box, that's Bolin versus Masterpool, who's last year's winner of this race.
10:22And then Shimoda.
10:23Yeah, and earlier I was talking about Ty, if he can, excuse me, not Ty, but Seth, if he can just hold on and get that shoulder warmed up,
10:30maybe he'll be able to catch a toe.
10:31And it looks like that's what he's doing.
10:32Because behind him, he's got Tom Bial right behind him.
10:37So they're kind of pushing the pace.
10:39Unfortunately, everybody's almost seven seconds behind the leader, Hayden Deegan, which is just trying to run away from him.
10:43Now at the bottom, you see Kitchen has bridged the gap to second-place Thrasher.
10:49That was a nice move that was just made right there.
10:52This is going to be interesting as Kitchen moves up, Katie.
10:57Yeah, it would be.
10:58He knows that he has the pace.
10:59He actually told me earlier today it was a start that he really needed to work on.
11:03But his opening lap speed, those two combined, if he could get those dialed in, he knew he had the pace to get the job done.
11:10Something to take into consideration, though, is he's had a mental coach that he said has changed the game for him.
11:15He also has put on a lot of weight, and that's actually been helpful.
11:18You guys were talking about him and Garrett earlier about the weight and the heaviness of them.
11:22He knows that's one of actually the things he's been working on and one of the important factors for him as well
11:28in hopes that he can get around here, Nate Thrasher.
11:31Definitely getting stronger, Katie, and he just makes the move here, James, for second.
11:34Yeah, well, you can see that pass.
11:35Nate was trying to get back to the inside, but because these corners are so off-camera,
11:39Nate couldn't get back towards it to close that door off.
11:41But nice pass by Levi.
11:42And when these guys are talking about putting on weights, they're talking about putting on muscle,
11:45and we're not talking about going from 150 pounds to 170.
11:49It's just about putting on weight in the right position.
11:51So Levi Kitchen definitely not figured out whatever it is, the mental coach or whatever it is,
11:56he's starting to figure that part out.
11:58So maybe he can cut into Hayden Deegan's league.
12:01As for Thrasher there in third, I said it's been a slow start to the season.
12:05His best moto finish so far this year is 18th.
12:10And now he's running third.
12:11Yeah, I mean, that just showed you where to start.
12:13Things are starting to come quickly for Nate.
12:16It's weird because if you haven't been up here, that pace really happens fast.
12:21And in this field, as you can see, there's a guy behind him.
12:25There's another guy behind the other guy.
12:26There's always going.
12:27So Nate, when things start coming unrattled, there's about five guys that you can instantly get past,
12:32and then it just starts to go downhill.
12:34So Nate knows how to.
12:35He's won races before in Supercross.
12:38He just needs to get used to all these guys because I believe he has the pace.
12:41It's really about just being comfortable up front, then being able to run that pace, and he'll figure it out.
12:46Give me a check-in with that monster energy.
12:50Yamaha Star Racing Team Deegan in the lead.
12:53Thrasher now third.
12:54Moseman, another quiet but very effective ride, is sixth.
12:58And Muneer, who had that great start, now back to 18th.
13:0018th, again in his second pro race, the young Australian.
13:05Now the career best finish outdoors for Thrasher is a fourth.
13:09He had an Ironman a couple of years ago.
13:12See if he can stay in that spot.
13:13He's third at the moment, but Seth Hamaker closing on the 56.
13:17Yeah, I like Seth been out here.
13:19He said he wanted to get top five.
13:20So normally when a guy like Seth is up here, obviously the crashes and stuff have been hindering him.
13:25So for him, he's rotting.
13:27He's trying 100%.
13:28But at the same time, he's also trying to be cautious and make sure he doesn't go down, hurt that shoulder again.
13:33And he knows top fives, he can build that confidence and then eventually get a win.
13:39Yeah, Seth, actually he and Thrasher crashed together at Hangtown.
13:45Second turn of the race.
13:47First, Hamaker got up and then immediately crashed even bigger going downhill in the very next section of the track.
13:54And that's what led to the shoulder injury that prevented it from racing last weekend.
13:59So a nice comeback here for Seth.
14:03And that is third and fourth.
14:06Fifth is Vial next.
14:09Send it back to JT.
14:10Well, Tom Vial, he really, you know, came into this series thinking he was going to be a championship contender.
14:16And it started pretty well.
14:17His first round at Fox Raceway gets on the podium.
14:20I even asked him, hey, are you content with beating a podium guy?
14:22He's like, no, absolutely not.
14:24I want to win.
14:25Well, ever since then, things have not gone very well.
14:27So he's back running around near the top five.
14:29But he has got to try to find some positive momentum and get back to the form that we know he has.
14:34Yeah, speaking about some form, Michael Moselman, before he got out there on track, he was so chill on the start line.
14:41He was doing some yoga, actually some stretching.
14:43It was pretty cool to see him in that position.
14:45Of course, he's had three podiums.
14:48But this season, right so far, it's only been an eighth, a tenth, and a 14th.
14:51And he's a guy that knows how to get the job done.
14:53And, in fact, here at High Point, last time he was out here racing, which was, by the way, in 2022, he ran a fourth.
15:00So it's a place he's been comfortable at, but he really needs to dial it in a little bit more.
15:04Yeah, if you're Chance Hymes right here, you've got to be somewhat bummed.
15:07Because coming off last weekend, going that 1-1, being fast in practice as well, you knew you wanted to come out here and try to get another win.
15:14And it's going to be hard for you because you don't really see the guy in front of you.
15:18So you've got to continue to race forward.
15:20Look at that pit board, that mechanics there, chase the guy in front of you, chase that pit board, try to bring those lap times down to see if you can close the gap.
15:26Because right now, you're about a second off of what the pace you need to be running to catch the guys in front of you.
15:31And dealing with a little pressure from Marchbanks, who's behind him in eighth.
15:36Marchbanks, only man left out in California for that monster pro circuit Kawasaki team.
15:41His teammates have all headed east.
15:44But the factory 450 riders, like Jason Anderson, are still out in California.
15:49So he's been riding with Anderson now.
15:51That is, 250 teammates are gone.
15:54Also gone is half the moto here.
15:56Hold up.
15:57Shout out to Monster Energy for backing us here.
16:00And a reminder that you can purchase Monster Energy.
16:02It's available at BFS Foods.
16:06What are you seeing here, James?
16:07Yeah, I was looking at Seth Handmaker got around Nate Thrasher.
16:10So he moves his way up to third and see if he can keep on with his teammate.
16:15Levi has a pretty good pace.
16:16He's losing, he was able to catch Hayden a lot before, but then Hayden dropped the hammer and went back to 209.
16:21Levi in the 211.
16:22And I think a lot of that comes from is that Levi eventually is going to start riding behind him because he can't see Hayden.
16:28And it's just hard to chase a rabbit that you can't see.
16:31And it's easy to start looking back at your teammate coming up.
16:34And you always want to beat your teammate.
16:35So this race is going to go all the way down to the finish if these two stay up.
16:40What surprised me, some of these back sections here, it looks like he is not charging at all.
16:44That must be how technical, how difficult the track is because obviously he's still going fast.
16:48Yeah, I think a lot in these back sections where we had some rain, some of those, the gnarly G outs,
16:53what you can't see is the holes in the bottom of it because the rain, the rainwater had to come off somewhere.
16:59So some of these sections you can see these guys, if we come back to it, they'll slow down
17:03because actually the rain is sitting down there just getting a deeper, deeper hole.
17:07So Levi, I think he's doing a good job.
17:08He's pushing it, but it's a difficult racetrack.
17:11And it's hard when you're seeing this number one just pulling it away from you, no matter how hard you try.
17:17JT.
17:18Speaking of doing a good job, Hayden Beacon certainly doing that.
17:21And I wanted to ask you guys, did you guys notice him?
17:24He was our fastest qualifier, and I got a chance to speak to him right afterwards.
17:27There was not a lot of joking around.
17:29You know, typically he's got to take a jab at people, having some fun with the interview.
17:33He was all business this morning.
17:35James, I'm just wondering, like, do you think that is coming off of last weekend
17:39and just his overall mindset entering this round?
17:42Oh, 100%.
17:43100%.
17:44And you would think that because of his points lead, he'd be really relaxed.
17:47And I heard him.
17:48We spoke to his dad, you know, Brian, and he said, you know, what's the message being sent?
17:53And he didn't really throw us out there.
17:55You know, he said he won.
17:56Hayden wanted to win, but he also said that as he gets close to jumping off the racetrack,
17:59he also said Hayden woke up.
18:01He could tell by his son's attitude that it was going to be a good day.
18:04And when you were talking to him, JT, it seemed like that.
18:07No playing around.
18:08He knew he wanted to stop that number 10 for getting any confidence.
18:11And what better way to do it than what you're doing right now with an 11-second lead?
18:15And as he pulls away, you can focus on that bottom box.
18:18Good battle now between the teammates, Moseman and Thrasher, 5th and 6th.
18:22Katie?
18:22Going back up to Hayden.
18:23Guys, there's so much you could talk about with this guy.
18:26But Brent Duffy, his mechanic, was telling me after practice today, he came off the track
18:30and he said, man, I left some speed out there.
18:32So, of course, that shows the team that he is confident.
18:35And, guys, confidence brings confidence, right?
18:37Hey, Stu, you know that one well.
18:39Yeah, and if you're looking at dictionary confidence, you've got to see a picture of Hayden Deegan
18:44because he has the confidence.
18:46And why wouldn't you?
18:47Now, he has the luxury right now.
18:49Like, he's pulling away from these guys.
18:51But, honestly, he's probably rotting in his heart, probably 80%.
18:54So, he's saving energy.
18:55He's been able to move around.
18:57And on this racetrack that is easy to make mistakes, he's been able to choose his own lines
19:02and not rush certain sections.
19:04So, compared to a guy like Levi, has to make up time.
19:07So, he has to push it down.
19:08Hayden's in the perfect position.
19:10And I'm sure he's saving energy at this point.
19:13And it's going to be hard for these guys to beat him in the second moto because he's not
19:15riding that hard at the moment.
19:17We saw the work he could do without good starts and how strong he could be late in the motos
19:23a year ago.
19:24Yeah, now it's making life much easier on himself.
19:28Yeah, I like this inside line.
19:29We saw it a lot before Garrett Marchbank.
19:31He went on the outside.
19:32Then he cut all the way back to the right.
19:34So, being patient.
19:35And Hayden has that luxury to be able to just slow down and get to that inside.
19:39It sets you up better for that tunnel jump.
19:41And if you just watch him, all his lines, he's not rushing in any corner.
19:45He's going exactly where he wants to go.
19:46If he wants to miss a bump, he'll slow down and move his way around the racetrack.
19:50And the reason he's able to do that is because he's out front.
19:52Nobody's pressuring him.
19:55And the Super Motocross playoffs return with racing September 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
20:00September 13th, St. Louis, Missouri.
20:03And then in September, join us for the SMX World Championship Final in Las Vegas, Nevada.
20:08Champions are crowned like Hayden Deegan has been the last two years.
20:12For tickets and information, go to supermotocross.com.
20:16Love the hybrid tracks, the two-day format, and much, much more.
20:20And Deegan will be aiming for the three-peat in the 250 division.
20:24As will Jet Lawrence try to do the same in the 450 class.
20:27The clutch adjustment over there, like this outside line.
20:35Slow down right here.
20:36Pop over this.
20:37JT.
20:38Yeah, just watching Deegan's line choice here.
20:41James, this is the position you found yourself in.
20:43I would say 12 seconds might be on the lower side of the position you found yourself in at this racetrack.
20:48But you notice, he's taking the smoothest lines all the way around the racetrack.
20:52And I just wanted to follow what you were talking about.
20:54This is the advantage you get when you have a lead like this.
20:57He doesn't have to take necessarily the fastest line.
21:00He can take the smoothest line.
21:02That's going to set him up so nicely for the second moto.
21:05Because he's not hitting any bumps.
21:06He's saving so much energy.
21:08Those guys in the battle, they are forced to take the absolute fastest and most often roughest line around the racetrack.
21:14So, there's so many benefits to getting out and getting a lead like this.
21:17No, absolutely.
21:18You saw him jump all the way down that hill.
21:20And if he had somebody behind him, he would have to try to make it to that inside.
21:24Because he would have to worry about somebody to come to him.
21:26But because he's out front, as you can see him, you know, cut back across that corner.
21:30It just works out beautiful for him.
21:32Now, we're watching a battle.
21:33It's Master Pole.
21:35Moving up.
21:36Battling Shimoda.
21:38Joe got back up.
21:40Okay, good.
21:41And here's that downhill from a different view.
21:43So, yeah, Shimoda's got to go inside here, right?
21:46Yeah.
21:46So, Hayden jumped all the way down.
21:47And if somebody like Joe was behind him, he would have to get back over.
21:50But Joe didn't get that corner properly.
21:53Now, he's getting past.
21:54And he's going to be frustrated because, again, he just lost that time.
21:57Now, he's got to go back to work and try to get back through him.
21:59Katie?
22:00The thing to note about Ty Master Pole is he went back to Texas this week.
22:04And why is that important?
22:05Well, last year at high point when he got the 300th win for Pro Circuit and he won this race,
22:10he also went back to Texas, saying it was a bit of a reset.
22:14That's exactly what he needed after the last few rounds where he's felt sick.
22:17He's had issues even throwing up and different things.
22:20He's hoping that Texas homage would have paid a little bit of just relaxation and rest for him.
22:26Another thing to note about Ty is he changed to a nutritionist recently.
22:29And he's hoping that also helps his health both on and off track.
22:33Yeah, thanks, Katie.
22:34He said he actually hooked up with a nutritionist through Levi Kitchen because Ty has had some problems.
22:39His kitchen said when he was battling him last weekend in that second moto, he's like,
22:42well, I knew the guy was going to fade.
22:44I literally saw him throwing up before the second moto.
22:47And we've been talking about that all year as you're saying the teammates can't quite hide the ailments from each other.
22:53No, they can't.
22:54And especially, like, you know, in Ty's situation and Levi, he's like, look, you know, I fed him.
22:58He's working with my nutrition.
23:00I know he's throwing up over there.
23:01So come to my kitchen.
23:03I'll help you out.
23:03But, yeah, when you're battling for your teammate for a championship, you know all the secrets.
23:09And you've got to think about it in the 450 class, the Lawrence brothers, you know, Jet Lawrence.
23:12He knows everything about his brothers.
23:15So there's no secrets.
23:16Just got to go out there and see if Joe can go back to work on Ty.
23:19There will be some opportunities to make some passes.
23:21And here might be one of them right here.
23:23Joe's getting close.
23:24But Ty's going to be back alongside of him.
23:27Got this gnarly breaking bump.
23:28Let's see if Ty can get close to him on the inside or Joe's going to cut him off.
23:31There you go.
23:31He did.
23:32Man, it's a great battle.
23:33They passed each other a couple of times.
23:35And look, Masterpool fighting back again.
23:37Yeah, but Ty's going to try to set him up and see if he can square him up.
23:40But Joe did a pretty good line right there being defensive.
23:43But there you go.
23:45A lot of opportunities.
23:46I expect Joe's going to go around the outside.
23:49Good job, Ty.
23:50Wow.
23:51And they've caught Brasher now who's right in front of them.
23:54Top box is Hymas who is catching Moseman for fifth.
23:59Three-rider fight now.
24:00Thrasher, Masterpool Shimoda.
24:04Yeah, that's one thing here at Mount Morris.
24:06All these different lines.
24:08Once you get into it, some of these corners you've got to stay in that rut.
24:11But it gives you an opportunity to make some passes if you're Joe Shimoda.
24:14And this will be another opportunity to see what Ty does.
24:17Now he's going to run it up the inside.
24:19Ty probably hit the brakes and try to square underneath him like that.
24:21It's unbelievable.
24:24It's good.
24:25And all that being said, they're closing in on Nate Thrasher right in front of him.
24:30So great stuff.
24:32And then Hymas continuing to close.
24:34Moseman for fifth.
24:36Vial up to fourth.
24:38Masterpool Shimoda.
24:39More passes en route.
24:42Yeah.
24:43One of them is trying to get a twofer.
24:45Bogo special.
24:46And Ty's in a difficult spot because he wants to try to pass Michael.
24:50But then he's got Joe.
24:51And sometimes you've got to leave that door open.
24:53Now Michael's starting to slow him down.
24:55And Joe's going to go around the outside of both of them.
24:58Here's the Bogo.
24:59Yeah.
24:59Bogo special.
25:00Got it.
25:01Got the lightning deal right there.
25:04I like it, man.
25:05For those labels on the clearance rack, you know.
25:08You see the bright colors.
25:09It's a good deal.
25:10And Masterpool able to pass.
25:12Moseman.
25:13Thrasher as well.
25:15They're going.
25:15Yeah.
25:16We were looking at Michael.
25:17But yeah, that is Nate Thrasher right there.
25:18So.
25:19Yep.
25:19Yeah.
25:19Moseman is battling with the other Honda.
25:21Yeah.
25:21Hymas in the other box.
25:23He was in that battle box earlier.
25:24Uh-huh.
25:25Hey, lots of teammates out here.
25:27Okay.
25:27So now, will Shimoda be able to end this with Masterpool?
25:32Or will Ty come back on him?
25:35Yeah.
25:35Normally, most riders that Joe, if he has somebody to chase,
25:38then I think he'll be able to end it.
25:39Because clearly, I think he's faster than, you know, Ty at this point.
25:44But if he doesn't have a rabbit to chase, as I mentioned with Levi,
25:48it's easy to start riding behind you.
25:49So we'll see what happens.
25:51But somewhat a good ride by chance.
25:53This is what I wanted to see.
25:54Could he be able to come up through the pack?
25:56These guys spread it out.
25:57For him.
25:58So now he's got to close the gap.
25:59But still, if he can get within the top five, maybe even, you know,
26:03close to Tom Vial, it'd be somewhat of a good ride for him mentally,
26:06that is, compared to what we saw a couple weeks ago with him having food
26:10poison, pulling off the racetrack and stuff.
26:12You've got to at least back up another 1-1 with at least the top five.
26:15Because that's the best you can do today.
26:16Yeah, just looking for fifth with Moseman here on the 93 right in front of him.
26:21Told you Moseman's story several times.
26:24Broken neck and several concussions led him to think that his racing days were over.
26:29Neck healed up.
26:30The doctor said, you're not any more likely to have a problem than anyone who had not
26:33broken their neck.
26:34No long-term complications.
26:36So he decided to give this one more shot.
26:38And because he's always been fast, he got a shot with this Yamaha team.
26:43So he's got the good equipment, the good squad, trying to make the most of it.
26:47Yeah, and you saw that line where we got the sky shot, the double.
26:52Let's see if Chance can bully himself up the inside.
26:55There you go.
26:56Move out my way.
26:57Move or be hit.
26:58Love it.
27:00So fifth for Haimes, despite the bad start.
27:05Send it to Katie, see what the strategy is for the Honda crew.
27:08It's one of those strategies that is pretty funny.
27:12It says, stay loose and dig.
27:14And that is all the pit boards are saying right now for Chance Hymons.
27:17Stay loose and dig.
27:18Well, Katie, I'll tell you who's staying loose.
27:19Maybe a little too much.
27:20We saw Michael Moseman.
27:21I don't know if he saved that or not.
27:23That bike was full swap left to right.
27:26He's still there.
27:26He's still there.
27:27Man, that was a close one.
27:29So that's definitely a loosey-goosey at that point.
27:32Yeah, but I can tell you one thing.
27:33Like, he won't remember that happened until somebody brings it up.
27:36Be like, oh, yeah, almost died out there.
27:38But he's going to continue racing forward.
27:40That's what I love about all these athletes, man.
27:42They almost just died a corner before.
27:44But they forget about a corner later until somebody brings it up.
27:48Yeah.
27:49Let's see this again.
27:51Oh, Julian Bomer having his problems in this moto.
27:54We caught it.
27:55Give it the replay at the top of the screen.
27:58Julian going down.
28:00He starts.
28:00So there's Rudge right there.
28:01And he starts losing the front end, going off that little hump.
28:04And, yeah, just lost it and just slid all the way down the hill.
28:07And that's what I'm saying on camera.
28:08You can't tell how steep these hills are.
28:10But once you start losing the front end, it's easy to just fall over as we watch Joe do the same thing early in the day.
28:15So, yeah, Shimoda fell to the bottom of that hill where you just saw Hymas in qualifying.
28:22So Hymas, fifth, three-second gap to be out.
28:27Let's see if he can make one more run.
28:29Yeah, I think he's a little closer to Tom than that.
28:33Let's see if he can get around these lappers.
28:35I just saw Tom just popped out of that screen.
28:37So Chance has some pretty good lines.
28:39You can see how patient he is.
28:40In the lap before, I was saying with Michael how he was so far on the outside and he had to cut back.
28:45Well, I like the line that Chance is doing.
28:47He's just taking his time being slow.
28:49But it sets him up better for this next corner, which sets him up better for this whole section.
28:54So he's got a toe in on Tom Pial.
28:58That's pretty close now.
28:59Yeah.
29:00Yep.
29:02Man, you talked so much, especially this year, about the difference, having that toe, seeing the guy.
29:06And what a difference that makes.
29:07No, I mean, it really is.
29:09It's like a person training.
29:10You know, your goal, I want to lose weight.
29:13Well, you've got to have some kind of goal to do it or any kind of goal in life.
29:16And I think with these riders, you know, of course, they're all fast.
29:18But you've got to have a toe.
29:20And especially when you get close to somebody, you know when they're braking.
29:23So you can just stay on that little bit of, you know, stay on the throttle a little bit harder.
29:27That's why it's a lot easier to catch a guy compared to passing him.
29:30I think if he stays a little bit closer, he might have a shot again, Tom.
29:33And that could put him in perhaps overall territory, depending on how the second moto breaks.
29:41A five would make it tough.
29:44This would be huge, potentially, by the end of the day.
29:46The difference between this fourth and fifth.
29:48Who's going to get it?
29:49Vial versus Himes.
29:51Yeah, I mean, I think for overall, it's, you know, Hayden away.
29:54How strong he's been all year long.
29:56You're probably going to have to be closer to Levi.
29:58That's second, third place.
29:59Fourth is in case something happens.
30:01Yeah, it'll put you in an overall situation.
30:03But I think what it does is just lets everybody know Chance is here.
30:08Like, his fitness is there.
30:09He's able to not get the best star.
30:11He's going to climb his way back up to, you know, the top five.
30:15And I think that just more sends a message to him.
30:17But also, even Hayden Deegan.
30:19You know, you're not going to have the situation where Chance doesn't get a start.
30:22Okay, he doesn't get a start.
30:23He's out.
30:23No big deal.
30:25The kid's starting to find his confidence.
30:26And the only way he does that, by that 1-1 last weekend, allows him to be able to move his way up front.
30:31I think this is going to continue to help him throughout the rest of this year.
30:35Yeah, no doubt.
30:35I didn't want to say.
30:36But, yes, to turn a fourth or fifth in the overall with Deegan, they're going to need some help.
30:40Some luck in the second moto.
30:43Oh, Seth Hamaker.
30:44Hang on to that thing.
30:45This would be big if he can.
30:47He almost crashed there.
30:48If he can keep it on two wheels and bring it to the end, this will actually be the first ever moto podium for Seth Hamaker in pro motocross.
30:55His career best is a fourth right here at High Point about two years ago.
31:01Yeah, that's crazy to think how good Seth has been.
31:04But that's really what injuries are.
31:06And, you know, if his shoulder's starting to bottom, I can tell you one thing.
31:09Those rollers that he came down hitting at, that is going to bother him quite a bit.
31:13Not only with that, but these downhills.
31:15A lot of these corners, it's like you're slamming down and then you have an instant stop.
31:20So Seth is doing a good job.
31:22If he can finish with his podium with his teammate, it would be a great ride.
31:26And the work he has put in with the Lawrences there at their compound, the Dog Pound, has really paid off.
31:33A lot of work on riding technique.
31:35And they tell me that Seth will land on Sundays after Supercross from the airport, go to the track, get on a pit bike.
31:42Not a full practice day on the real bike, but just work on drills, work on figure eights, work on turns to really get that riding technique to set in on a Sunday before going back to the regular Monday through Thursday schedule.
31:54So he's doing everything he can to accelerate the learning curve.
31:58And we've seen big advancements this year.
32:00Yeah, no, I agree.
32:01And Seth looks like that type of guy.
32:03Like, when you see certain riders, you just know they have that work ethic.
32:07And then I think the way he rides, he looks like a goddess.
32:11He's never going to give up.
32:12Kind of like Tom Bastapool, I like to say.
32:13Certain guys are just dogs out there.
32:15When you look at Seth, all the injuries that bounce back, he's got the heart.
32:20He's got to find that health and that belief, and he'll be fine.
32:23But the one guy who doesn't have any problems with any of that is Hayden Deegan, man.
32:27I'm telling you right now, he's going to be just as fresh for that second moto as he was this first one because he's been saving some energy all race long.
32:35Love it.
32:35Check in again with the 2-2.
32:38Jalik Smole coming back from the Achilles injury.
32:42That's pretty darn fast.
32:43I think that happened in November, if I remember right.
32:47So here we are, just a little over six months, and back on the racetrack on the Triumph.
32:54And he admitted to me yesterday, yeah, maybe the cardio fitness is not quite there.
32:58It's only been about two and a half weeks on the bike.
32:59But, hey, racing is training in its own way.
33:02No, absolutely.
33:03I think Jalik's doing a great job out here.
33:05I mean, this is going to be a good job just finishing these motos.
33:09And, like he said, maybe he shouldn't be dancing on that thing, but he put his dance shoes on today.
33:14So if he can finish top 15 in the first ride, I'm sure everybody had the Triumph to be happy.
33:19And his speed is there.
33:20To come back, he was, you know, top six in qualifying.
33:23So he has the speed.
33:24This is expected with the race fitness.
33:27Back to the leader, Hayden Deegan.
33:29Final lap now.
33:31And looking to make it six moto wins.
33:34Sorry, five moto wins in, do my math right here.
33:40Seven starts.
33:41Yes, that would be correct.
33:42Seventh moto of the year.
33:43And this one, probably the easiest so far this season.
33:48Yeah, you got my math skills going on.
33:49Five out of four?
33:50Five out of four people struggling with math.
33:52All right.
33:52On points.
33:53On one of the five.
33:54Yeah, no, it's all good.
33:55Just bad influences off you.
33:57You get that from me.
33:59Contagious here.
34:00Well, hey, look, math is easy.
34:03Just look at the gap he has.
34:04He is on cruise control on this final lap.
34:07No, he's on cruise control.
34:08And still, say, a great route for him.
34:10But also a great route for Levi.
34:12I think this is going to help Levi.
34:14Again, Hayden Deegan is resting up.
34:17He'll be ready for that second moto.
34:18It's been a fun moto for him, I can tell you that much.
34:21Just able to tuck it into that run at the bottom of the hill.
34:24Now headed for daylight.
34:25One turn remains.
34:28And the fans salute him at the top.
34:32Hayden Deegan wins moto one at high point.
34:37Battle still going.
34:38Shimoda and March base.
34:40Sixth place.
34:41Been seeing this all year long for Joe.
34:43Good job to be able to catch Garrett because he wasn't even close to him.
34:48Now let's see what happens.
34:49Garrett's probably going to try to block this inside.
34:51Joe might have an opportunity.
34:52If he gets a run on the outside, he should be able to get around him.
