00:07lawrence leads them into turn one and the progressive hole shot to lawrence cooper webb
00:12right there jett lawrence bobbled in the first corner so lawrence up front and another lawrence
00:18toward the back as roxon now battles tomac for second yeah hunter lawrence again this is his
00:25round and i think this is a perfect place to be at we see how strong he's been every year in the
00:29second round but on this track the way he rides he's very smooth very technical he's going to fill
00:35the flow good to see the 94 and eli tomac right behind it's going to be a great race here well this
00:40is massive for all of these guys running up front and the reason that is is because chase sexton
00:45and jett lawrence are the outside of the top 10 right now and this is going to be huge from a world
00:53championship standpoint jett was actually 21st around the hole shot line is now up to 16th on lap
01:00one as roxon and tomac try to keep hunter lawrence in sight trying to give you a replay show you what
01:07happened here off the start sexton is eighth and again lawrence now 15th and roxon's so strong early
01:14let's watch the four and the one yeah jack's a little late off the gate you can see he gets
01:19closed out by the 32 of justin cooper so he has to slow down and he's behind kenny as well and just watch all
01:25the riders from the outside look at him in the 51 of justin barsha coming down puts that left leg leg down
01:32then he gets checked up as well barsha hits the brakes he has to go all the way to the outside only one
01:37guy behind him yeah he crashed twice and never hit the ground right there man that was good for him to
01:42stay up but he's got a lot of work good thing is he's got some time and this is the hardest part
01:47jet lawrence he's so used to being out front you got to worry about this stuff and as a title
01:51this can end it right here if he has uh gets caught over one of these guys he'll figure it out well and i
01:56think too this is you talk about weaknesses i think an area where jet could be a little bit better is
02:02that early intensity i feel like that's kind of been his shortfall all season long and this is
02:09where it shows itself when you're so far behind getting held up now by the swiss native valentine
02:15guillot and that actually allows momentarily justin hill to get by jet now he's going back after guillot
02:22able to close it off there with mitch oldenburg right in front of him so the toughest track to pass on
02:28probably all year and the defending champ is out of the top ten yeah but you gotta you gotta give
02:33jack credit every time he's been in a position he might not be able to come and win but he always just
02:37marches his way up and i felt like in my career there was a couple times where i would rush
02:42and then i would end up getting caught up in these guys and just ruin my race so maybe the wind's not
02:47there but you're taking maybe uh 18th and you get that third fifth place that's what he's been able
02:52to do and that's why he has a number one play he's smart enough to do a nice pass right there
02:55got oldenburg on that liquid valley beta oldenburg one of the riders coming back

03:44jt yeah there's something going on with jet warrants in st louis think about how his weekend it went here
03:51in 2024 that rider he tagged twice in the first quarter is the rider that's right in front of him
03:56i don't have to remind her maybe i do that crash last year between he and justin barsha he jumped on
04:01a red cross flag last year that cost him a race win in the triple crown he has not had any luck at
04:07all here tonight and if he's going to come away with his third super motocross world championship playoff
04:12he's gonna have to do damage control and do it right now well i just want to like i was noticing
04:18something watching you guys in the pro motocross championship in the broadcast as i feel that
04:23the other manufacturers the other teams have closed the gap on the starting advantage that that factory
04:29honda hrc team had early on in the pro motocross championship on an average because you remember
04:35it was always jet always hunter out front and that's really not the case like it was early on in the
04:41motocross season yeah no i agree it definitely has and we can see the difference but i'm gonna go back
04:45to that the tire setup that will broke broke down that paddle tire and with him having at all what
04:51it's gonna do is allow him you can see him sliding out he's losing a lot of traction in the rear it's
04:56gonna be hard to make passes because you won't be able to run outside the line and that's where a
05:00traditional regular tire you'll have that grip on the racetrack to be able to switch it up he's
05:05struggling right now i saw the last lap over the finish line he ripped those tear offs with a little bit of
05:09anger so it's gonna be curious to see how he ends up racing this with that tire well i can tell you from
05:14a fan point of view and we're all smx fans this is what i love about this format we are going to have
05:21a fantastic rest of the night here in st louis but it is basically going to be a winner take all when
05:27we go to vegas next weekend with the double points triple points this is so exciting yeah especially with
05:34tomac doing well right and he's a contender and hunter out front kenny as well and his brother
05:40hunter you remember going back last last year hunter they tied yes they tied for the champions that's
05:47right and jack got it because he did better on the last photo as for sexton he's six trying to
05:53close on justin cooper bottom box is tomac and roxan in a battle for second and again it's a two
06:01moto format you take the two results together to determine it overall a little difference
06:05than pro motocross which pays points in each individual moto ricky the number one's struggling
06:10right now i'm looking at his back and i think a lot of that's coming from the tire it seems like when
06:15he's up forward he wants to push forward the bike's not moving forward and i think a lot of
06:19that comes from the tires just spinning up so he's coming up short on jumps losing the rear and coming
06:24out of some of these corners so he's doing a good job not hitting the ground but it's going to be
06:28tough for him to make his way up to these two guys right here justin cooper and chase sex and he's
06:32got to get on the move as well and now cooper webb is in their sight in that blue jersey the number two
06:38so it's a three-rider fight for fourth and justin cooper's got the line and makes the move
06:43webb fights back yeah that was handsome rod by cooper justin came in but he's clearly he's got the pace
06:50i'm chase sex and i'm like man we're back in a dome again that number two is back in front of me
06:55seemed like i saw a lot of that earlier this year those two battling for a superstar championship
06:59here's the split lane love this giving the riders options justin cooper gonna try the outside on
07:06cooper webb and remember late in the year he was right in there battling with them helping run some
07:11interference for his teammate webb but now it's every man for himself and somehow webb able to hold off
07:18justin cooper and chase sexton frustrating part of the track right there it all kind of bottles up into
07:24one line yeah and it looks like that outside is faster but you got to get alongside of that guy to
07:30be able to close him out because once you get around you get next to him but you're on the outside
07:33in the next corner and you ain't going around outside of cooper webb he he'll let you know uh-huh
07:39no not happening on his watch so critical right now for sexton the runner-up last week to get these
07:46points but it's not going to be easy to pass the three-time supercross chap and now into the tuck
07:51blocks held up by webb is justin cooper can sexton take advantage and he does yeah 32 is getting hung
07:58up bad behind the three-time supercross champ and just know where he could know where that he could go
08:04sexton since that goes to the outside makes the move yeah it was funny i'm looking at chase's body
08:10he's like come on mike come on i can try to get to him because i need to get beside him he was trying but
08:14nice pass bomb he needed to make that once he got caught and he knows how difficult it is to pass uh the
08:19number two cooper way by supercross champion yeah these two took it down to the wire it was really
08:24about a point between them in the monster energy supercross championship the always fast sexton and
08:31the wily veteran webb another battle where they're about to hook it up and these are all points to lead

09:20sleeping a little bit of a nice move by him i think chase is faster but he had to get around that number
09:25two because the number one's closing up behind him as well he is and i was just going to say you talk
09:30about the one closing in we're only halfway we have a lot of racing left we're going to get into lappers
09:37so uh this is a great opportunity still for chase to move up the uh up the ladder as well as the one

09:51lawrence getting it done right now yeah we'll see how far forward sexton and jet lawrence can go
09:55see on the uh timing and scoring jet lawrence getting by uh hamshire now he's rolling he knows
10:01time is running out yeah well he knows how important it is to get all the way up because
10:06it's double points and it's two races so both photos count it's not like the normal supercross
10:11where this is a heat race in gate position this is going to count and we know how important it is
10:15and it's working out but what i like about what he's doing he's taking that and using that tire he's
10:20staying in the loose part of the dirt so he's able to square that corner up stay out of that
10:24slippery stuff he's starting to figure out make it work ricky that was an incredible pass you can
10:29see it lining up he goes takes a wide entry to the corner turns down accelerates hard out of that
10:36corner will ricky i'm just looking at how well jet is you know regardless of the bad start how well he's
10:42riding right now and obviously his brother hunter up front and i was talking to crew chief grant hutchson
10:47earlier about the guys set up there on their hunters and asked him sort of you know supercross out
10:52bills where are we and he said look if it was up to me i would just be going full supercross i open
10:57the computer i look at the data and say hey you guys need to ride your supercross setup yeah but they
11:01don't want that that's right they've come out of full out for a season so he says i have to adjust for
11:06how they feel on the bike and i just found that interesting ricky that they just become it's not that
11:11simple well it's not that simple when you ride a really soft cushy setting all season long and then you
11:18throw on some suspension even if it's suspension that you want a championship on one racing it takes
11:24some adjustment time getting used to like a same pass yeah same pass man he's figured out and if you
11:31go back to the early part of the races he wasn't hitting those corners that way as he gets up the
11:35inside of cooper webb he was more on a lean now he's in there coming in and squaring that bike up and
11:40what he's trying to do is keep that tire on the meat of the tires straight up and down because that's
11:45where he's going to have the most traction well when his lean is going to be a struggle he's figured
11:48it out he's trying to figure out this racetrack indeed we have some his thoughts on it yesterday
11:57it's exciting i think it's going to be kind of like how la was it when it was in the stadium
12:03it kind of a little more super crossy but this uh this dirt's always been prime it's uh so i'm looking
12:08forward to it um we haven't seen the layout just yet but once we do we'll go out there and figure it out
12:14and have some fun it's uh cool hopefully the track runs up nice and uh we see how it goes but um
12:20looking forward to it being inside of done we've got some nice ac because hot outside right now which
12:25ain't normal here but um no looking forward to it so uh hopefully that's cool flows nicely and yeah
12:32i'm just excited to ride this dirt because that's awesome we hear some sound from jen i have a question
12:37for james and ricky concerning that scoop tire you saw him really struggling early on but the guy out
12:43front with a six second lead and then the guy in third are both using that same tire that we were
12:48wondering the effectiveness of so the question is do you think that was a situational thing where jet
12:54is panicking panicking a bit being way too aggressive for the situation and overriding the tire
13:00where hunter and eli in great position are being more patient and using the tire where it works best
13:05no yeah i i agree i think it's a little bit of both you know hunter and eli being out front
13:11it's it'll work jet has figured out how to make it work hunter lawrence eli tomat they're making it
13:15figure out how to work but it's when you don't get the start and you have to change lines and you need
13:19to be able to switch it up and run outside the main line that's where the the scoop tire might be a
13:24struggle but jet has changed his lines and he's figured it out and now he's closing in on chase sex and
13:29and ricky if he gets him who that's gonna be a maybe a huge blow for the number four rogers battling
13:34right there go ahead i i actually think uh jt it's a little bit like what i was talking about earlier
13:40i think jet rides super conservative early on in the races and wait until things kind of settle out
13:47and that's i think there's a part of what you were saying is what we saw there because of that but
13:52i just watched jet lawrence on that off camera turn from the inside he doubled that out of the
13:58corner that's probably where he's making some time yeah yeah he's got to figure it out because sometimes
14:03we we saw hayden deegan and jet lawrence switch up lines adjusting and the rider that adjusts on this
14:08type of track he's probably had the best opportunity to win and he's adapting to it on his way up to
14:14number four yeah he's made up a ton of time and quickly bottom box again justin cooper and cooper webb
14:20battling a little rematch from where they were about five minutes ago six and a mistake yeah that
14:24was a nice save and that's what's happening is that there's a hard base and all that sand's been
14:29drug onto that hard base it was like throwing sand on concrete chase went to go hit the front
14:33brakes he did a good job of not going down but i think he's going to try to fight jet lawrence he's
14:37got to do at all costs check this out i didn't do it that time yeah he would have jumped on it yeah
14:43that's right but i like this line too he's staying out of this run right there and he's staying on the
14:47inside he kind of slid out it's a good drive bike's not bouncing around as much oh such a critical
14:55juncture for the riders there were one two in last week's race one two in the championship fight as
15:01well love his corner exits right here james setting up early turning down check right here yeah see
15:08that he's squaring it up and getting that bikes up and down now he has the inside chains better close the
15:13gap he's used this before got to the inside the sand oh he's got it got him oh man i don't know
15:23i don't know yeah you do lean he should have leaned on him at that point but you know i think chase got
15:28stuck in a weird spot because there's about seven seconds to eli so i think he was moving forward when
15:33he was catching justin cooper all those guys and he doesn't he's not racing before he started racing
15:37behind him and i number one got him but ricky you gotta lean on him you you you close the door in
15:42that situation there ain't no way i'm leaving the door open and you ain't doing it either and i'm
15:47going to tell you what from an overall standpoint if it were to end like this that was a that was a
15:53really clutch passing a very important move i believe from an overall standpoint and with a double
15:59point every pass means more than it would in a typical race and look who's taking advantage of all
16:04this hunter lawrence excellence of execution the start ending we haven't seen a mistake as far as
16:10we can tell james called it on his keys to the race yeah well that was pretty easy to do his records
16:15pretty here but jason i'm gonna go back remember we were talking off camera um earlier today before
16:20tonight oh finally a mistake that's supercross right there even though you think you got it ain't
16:26over until you cross that checkered flag but yeah hunter lawrence that was a nice thing by him but
16:31we were talking off camera i said who did i say he's gonna have a good night you did and why he
16:35was gonna do it and he's doing that perfectly tonight hunter lawrence is filling it yep we asked about
16:40the format here and what his thoughts are battling for this title yesterday
16:46it's very important you know obviously get back in the fight double points this weekend so yeah a little
16:51more urgency absolutely so it's uh it'll be good be good okay james what is it about hunter lawrence's
16:58style that you thought would work so well on this track well one he's a great starter and on a track
17:03that is hard to pass the only one that's making passes really from a back is his team his brother
17:08uh jet lawrence but if he got his start he was fast last week and he had the fastest lap time but this
17:13particular track being very smooth we saw jet maybe overriding a little bit hunter lawrence doesn't do
17:18that he's very patient he's very smooth on the throttle he sits down in the right spot he makes that bike work
17:24on the slippery track and i thought if he got that start no matter who was behind him jet included
17:29this track would suit the 96 and man history would say he's figured out these second rounds
17:35he's feeling good and those green lights look good on that honda right there no doubt won the second
17:40race of 2023 in the 250 class second race in the 450 class in 2024 eli tomac starting to close on ken
17:47roxton for a second i tell you what though kenny's been riding having really good pace this whole race i mean he's
17:52kept uh probably two second lead on eli eli is starting to close in the gap however they're getting
17:59into lappers not sure how that's uh working for ken but nevertheless this is a strong ride for kenny
18:05if you think about ken coming here when he he won his race the first race back from those gnarly
18:11injuries all the way back in 2020 so uh it's really no surprise to me kind of that uh kenny has good vibes
18:18here will he has but he also has had a lot of time off the bike and checking with larry brooks team
18:23manager over there at suzuki progressive suzuki he said we're having to chase that he's like yeah the
18:29last time he was on track it was on a supercross track and obviously like he already talked about
18:33the season was going great he's like but as he's racing into fitness we're having to chase that with
18:38bike setup so really right now i mean they were working when i spoke to them earlier on today they were
18:43constantly working throughout the qualifying and practice rounds and obviously they they found
18:48something that gave ken some comfort because like you said but he looks fantastic yeah you're talking
18:53about chase who's chasing him down is that number one jet lawrence man he's starting he's on the same
18:58straightaway these guys are getting caught up with these lap riders the number one is closing up and
19:03if he keeps that pace you're gonna have a three right uh three rider fight for the second place i'll give
19:08you some context jet lawrence ran a 112 last lap okay the second fastest was hunter at a 114 third fastest
19:15was justin cooper at a 114 that is a substantial amount of time and 115s for tomac and roxson there's
19:24lawrence on the outside of the split lane and like you said james in some of these longer sections right
19:29here he can see the back of tomac yeah i think a little bit of those lap times where those guys getting
19:34caught up in the lap rider that was nasty thanks good job uh jet right there he's doing everything
19:39because he knows how important if he gets to that second place it's good as the first uh the second
19:43is as good as the first for this first moto yeah you have no shot to win this overall but jet's closed
19:49and he's got to stay patient you don't want to override it gonna have two laps left yeah those guys
19:54have picked up the pace as well he rev the engine right there when uh he closed up on justin hill
19:59he says uh i'm coming now this is going to be interesting to see what he can do these next two laps
20:05clock just expired so it'll be one to go next time around for the leader hunter lawrence
20:10cooper webb under fire from rj hampshire clearly webb who had knee surgery during the summer twisted it
20:16at the red button pro motocross round this is not quite the same cooper webb that won the supercross
20:22title earlier in the year got passed by his teammate and now might be passed by hampshire yeah but this
20:28is the normal rj this guy's always strong at the end of races and he always gives you the business he
20:33ain't afraid to run it in we've seen that salt lake city just asked center maker he'll run it in on you
20:39but good no i don't know what happened rj off the start but nonetheless he's moving forward yeah
20:44incredible ride by rj marching through the field and we've talked about it all night on the track that
20:49is really hard to pass that's impressive passing a three-time supercross champ and how about hunter
20:55lawrence fourth last week white flag now out looking for the first moto win yeah this hunter
21:01he stays up that's pretty good but you hear this crowd revving up in the background we look at those
21:06lap times seven eight nine these guys are with them one a couple seconds jet lawrence is pushing the pace
21:11he's got a battle for second on the last lap oh and that is so critical tomac and rocks it especially
21:17tomac needs to make up some points on jet lawrence he's got to hold him off at all three now on the
21:23side together jet almost went down right there he jumped into those tough blocks and you know you
21:28can tell he's trying to push it but if i'm ken rockson and eli tomat let's work together let's
21:32become teammates let's not slow each other down eli throw out them boots man make that bike really wide
21:38keep that number one behind you split lane coming up too these guys are so polished they have so much
21:44experience rarely do they make a mistake this late in the game and there's the split lane jet goes outside
21:50yeah and if i'm jet i got to stay getting really close to eli because i think my other opportunity
21:55to pass might be where mechanics area if eli goes a little wide to try to hit that triple i might sneak
22:01up on the inside and there's that double uses it to get right behind the two-time supercross champion
22:07he's got to get him on the last corner james he's got to turn down early like he's been doing yeah
22:11eli got out of the corner hannah lawrence wins the first moto here in st louis right down to the last turn it
22:17goes jet with a charge it'll be roxan tomac jett lawrence across the line yeah but that was really
22:25smart riding by eli he went down and closed that inside because jet was going to set him up ricky as
22:30you were saying but he went a little far the inside jen almost got him but the scoop tire worked out
22:35he got enough traction to get it done impressive ride by hunter just quiet silent going out there getting
22:43the job done double points he's probably like oh so jet so that's what it feels like to just be out clean number
