00:0015 seconds, turns to 5, MX2 race 1, bursts into life here in Shanghai, over on the right side, the 2, Red Bull KTM, Sasha Coonan on the back wheel, gets to the turn first, and he grabs another foxhole shot, 16 for the year, for the youngster.
00:27Vallin, right there, with him in second place, but John, he folds the front, just as Valerio Latta moved by into second, but it's the 19 who leads, Vallin under the barriers, can't get himself out, a lot of riders were talking about that yesterday, the way that they're all sort of hemmed in and dug down, you go in, you're going to take a while to get out, and Mattis Vallin,
00:56finding out the hard way, stuck underneath that, Kawasaki Racing Team machine, Langenfelder in third, DeWolf in fourth, a direct shootout between the top two in the championship, Langenfelder leads by 14 points, DeWolf,
01:09just there behind him, knows he needs to strike an attack, sooner rather than later, doesn't want to eat Roost, wants a smoother ride as possible in this first outing,
01:19but knows he's also got a good opportunity to try and close down the gap, to Langenfelder, but Sascha Kunen already disappearing, look, putting in a sprint lap on this opening lap,
01:32Carsmakers is in sixth behind Evertson, we've got the Australian, Byron Dennis, good start for the Aussie, he's in seventh, the Dama way, Gracilus Perez, they round out your top ten.
01:49And Langenfelder losing ground here, because DeWolf's gone through, Evertson's gone through, DeWolf now up into third, Evertson's fourth, Langenfelder fifth.
02:01And Langenfelder trying to find his way around the outside of Evertson, who once again is going to be a good wingman for his team mate.
02:08So not a good opening lap, good start for the 27, but looking back all over, looking all over, already looking over his shoulder is what I should say,
02:23Adamo ready to pounce as well, number 80, because obviously he's fighting for third in the championship, potentially higher, but depends what happens this weekend.
02:32Liam Everts riding a very wide Nostalna Svander at the moment, keeping the German at bay.
02:36But Langenfelder strikes back, gets on the dry part of the racetrack, moves back into fourth position.
02:43This was Langenfelder's mistake, just went in too deep, DeDeep, no, just DeWolf, charge down the inside, open opportunity, in the left-hander.
03:00Everts coming back at Langenfelder.
03:06Adamo sitting there, patient in the background, I say patiently.
03:10Probably keen to move by the 26 as soon as possible, but can't quite, can't find a way through there.
03:16Despite that monsoon of a rainstorm that we had last night, this circuit is actually in pretty good nick.
03:25But maybe a lot firmer in some places as well, a little more sticky in some of the corners, possibly creating more passing opportunities, when it matters for points in the Grand Prix classification today.
03:38Acuna leads, latter 2nd, DeWolf 3rd, Langenfelder 4, Everts here in 5th with Adamo, number 80, behind him in 6th.
03:47Perez, about 2.5 seconds further back, there he is on the number 99, and we've got Racialist Carsmakers and Byron Dennis now in 10th place.
03:54Darbo having a sneaky look up at the inside, going to be on the outside of an elbow here though.
04:06First official lap complete from finish line to finish line, Sasha Coonan, 4 seconds clear of Latter, who is 1.1 ahead of DeWolf in 3rd, knowing that he can make hay while the sun shines here, because he's going to gain another 2 points, that'll get him back down to 12 where it was over the weekend, before the start of the weekend.
04:32But Langenfelder lap time, about a second down on DeWolf, so is that a telltale sign already, even early on in the race?
04:39Does DeWolf have the pace to go ahead and maybe even win the race, even with 25.5 minutes to go? If he's going to do that, of course he's got some serious digging to do, because he's about 6.5 seconds down on Coonan at the minute.
04:53Coonan the race leader.
05:02Valan is 21.5 seconds down on the last rider Jin Yu Yang from China, after that fall on the opening lap, going through turn 3 when Valerio Latter, there was no contact with them, Valerio Latter ran it up the inside, but there was just obviously a soft patch and the front folded, Latter then under the boards, couldn't get himself out, and he's already a minute 58 off of Sasha Coonan.
05:29Sorry, minute 19 down on Sasha Coonan.
05:39Coonan passed this last time around, 55.3. We'll get him around at the end of lap 2.
05:44Good charge this from Kai DeWolf, doesn't want to get caught in any shenanigans with Latter like he did in the qualifying race, but guess what? Latter has other ideas.
05:56This looks like it was the final lap, final turn of the qualifying race between these two. Latter in second though this time around, DeWolf third.
06:06Spent a long time but it's going to go, it's going to have to go off piste a little bit here just to try and find some traction. Latter doesn't get over the double.
06:24DeWolf decided to take that option, closes in, heading through turn four into turn five, that little 180 left.
06:35And Langenfelder closing in on DeWolf as well, a proper terror starting to form between DeWolf who knows he can't afford to hang around behind the Italian because Langenfelder, they've got history from Turkey last year when Langenfelder shunted Kai DeWolf into next week.
06:56At the end of the wave section through that left hand turn, that was a year ago. So he knows that if he leaves the door open himself, he may be on a hiding to a big German elbow.
07:10Maybe just a front wheel from a Red Bull Gas Gas, who knows. But first he's got to be close enough and he's not close enough at the moment.
07:19Looks like he's just lost a little bit of ground. In fact, he lost about seven tenths in sector two.
07:30Here comes DeWolf again. Down past pit lane, looks to go around the outside, cuts it back to the inside.
07:38Chucks it in and can he get the drive over the Dragons Bank? Yes he can and he knows he's got to close down the door.
07:43Latter though, fancy his chances, thought better of it. DeWolf now up in a second.
07:56Watch this here. Just finds a line, middle of the turn, gets on the gas. It was a bit greasy on the way out.
08:03Latter thought he got the drive. Nowhere to go though as DeWolf closed him down.
08:07So after three laps, Sascha Kunin, 9.3 seconds clear. Another fastest lap of the race, 1.53.3. DeWolf 55.7.
08:17Latter 56.9. And Langenfelder 56.9 as well. And he finds himself 2.7 seconds behind Latter.
08:26So about 3.2 behind DeWolf at the minute.
08:28Crucially for Kai DeWolf though, he's got clear track. 9.7 seconds. If he's to go after Sascha Kunin, he's going to have to pull the pin now.
08:38And just go for broke because he knows that he is running out of time in this championship chase.
08:45And Langenfelder has found his way into third very, very quickly.
08:50So the gap still, two points gained by Kai DeWolf in this race, in the championship.
09:03Langenfelder sitting there thinking, well anything you can do Kai, I can do just as well, just as efficiently.
09:09Not getting caught, well, in any unnecessary battles.
09:18But can he dig deep? Well the answer is right there on screen. Sector 1, fastest of the race, 26.1. DeWolf 26.7.
09:27Kunin was a 26.2.
09:29We have to worry about Kunin at the moment, it's just these two we have to worry about. How big is Langenfelder prepared to dig?
09:42To lay it on the line to take a couple of points from Kai DeWolf.
09:47In the past we know he hasn't got a good relationship with the heat, the humidity.
09:52He'll be hoping to rectify that today, being in a championship leading position, knowing that there are just two rounds to go.
10:04And if he keeps on doing what he is doing, which is being consistent, then of course he knows he has a very, very good shot.
10:11This is the closest he's been to a championship title.
10:16Three years, second on the bounce, er, third on the bounce.
10:22Here's a Dahmo.
10:26Dahmo behind Everts.
10:28And Latter being drawn in as well.
10:32So this is fourth, fifth and sixth place.
10:43Just keeping an eye on the gap, less than a second between DeWolf and Langenfelder, as Langenfelder sets the fastest lap of the race.
10:4953-089. DeWolf, his best lap was a 55-053.
10:55Langenfelder was eight tenths quicker than Koonen even.
10:57And this is the gap between second and third. DeWolf and Langenfelder.
11:02Championship battle on the line between DeWolf and Langenfelder.
11:05Langenfelder here on the KTM.
11:09Sorry, this is DeWolf and Adamo, but DeWolf and Langenfelder separated by 14 points as it stands right now.
11:18Langenfelder looking to increase his lead over DeWolf.
11:23DeWolf was hoping for a bit of support from his wingman, Liam Everts here.
11:28Everts, just wonder how much what happened last year is playing on his mind when he had that crash with Lucas Koonen.
11:38Lucas Koonen needed surgery to repair damage to his neck and then obviously that old track was just a stowethrow away from here, but just coming here and just facing that pretty much head on.
11:51Get through this weekend and all of a sudden that just lays all those demons to rest, doesn't it?
11:55Bit of a moment there a couple of corners ago for Adamo as he came out of that right-hander under the city banner.
12:05Already in traffic.
12:07Latta here in fourth.
12:08Everts 26, he's in fifth.
12:10Adamo on the 80 in sixth place.
12:12They're about seven seconds clear of Guillaume Perez whereas McClellan is in ninth place, the second Monster Energy Triumph.
12:20DeWolf has responded impressively.
12:222.7 seconds clear now of Simon Langenfelder.
12:26So was there a push too early, too hard, too soon for the German?
12:32Desperate to find his way onto the rear wheel and pass the DeWolf on the Husqvarna.
12:42Is Langenfelder's lap time last time around? 55-6.
12:4553-08 the lap before.
12:52So Sachacuna leads 10.7 seconds clear.
12:56Of DeWolf.
12:58Ankenfelder third, Latta four, Evans five, that's him on screen.
13:01Sixth for Adamo, Perez seven, Rachelis McClellan-Karls.
13:04We've got Elzinger, Walvoort.
13:06Byron Dennis.
13:08Now in 13th place, just ahead of the Spaniard.
13:11Adria Mon, then Valin has got himself into 15th.
13:14Here's Perez.
13:17Circulating in seventh position.
13:21Fifth at the qualifying race on Saturday.
13:23He's fifth at the qualifying race on Saturday.
13:39Perez in a battle with Valerio Latta for eighth place in the championship.
13:44Here is Latta.
13:51Perez and Latta just 12 points apart.
13:56Obviously Latta knows that as well.
13:58He's sitting there in fourth position, Perez in seventh.
14:01So 18 points and 14 points is going to be a four point gain in favour of the 18 of the Italian.
14:06Chasing dirt around the outside.
14:10Riders yesterday were going inside in that turn two just before the liquid molly double.
14:15Very loose, very rocky on the exit.
14:16It's only a little short incline when you come out of that turn because you're not hitting it as a jump at that point.
14:22But when you go outside and nail it, then it becomes a jump take off.
14:26But because of how wet it was on the inside of turn one and turn two overnight because of the rain,
14:30that we had for a good couple hours. Heavy rain as well.
14:35Those inside lines are a little bit more breezy than they were yesterday.
14:56Down the back straight.
14:57Down the back straight.
15:01Through turn nine and ten.
15:10How much of this can Valerio Latta sustain actually?
15:14Sitting there in fourth place.
15:19Ten seconds behind Simon Langefelder is now 3.6 seconds behind De Gaulle.
15:24Hevertz tries to go around the outside.
15:29Latta just starting to look a little bit defensive now in that fourth position as he comes under attack from Hevertz and Adamo.
15:37looking to get Danny inside of Hevertz here but the Belgian just squeezes him to the inside.
15:51Impressive VIP facility right there.
15:53De Wolf puts his best lap of the race in all of a sudden.
16:091.53.9 to the 55.06 of Sasha Coonan.
16:14That gap still 10.8 seconds though.
16:17Between first and second in the race.
16:1914 minutes give or take.
16:21Plus two laps to go in this first MX2 race here in China.
16:24The Oriental Beauty Valley MXGP off China in Shanghai.
16:26Valerio Latta just starting to escape the clutches of Liam Evertz.
16:35For now.
16:37Evertz not too efficient through the waves.
16:40Darmo maybe just gaining a bike length on him.
16:43See the ruts on that back straight there between the two jumps that was like that yesterday.
17:03More so today with the rain that we had.
17:05Circuit holding up pretty good.
17:07It would be when you got like 35 degrees of temperature.
17:12Intense heat.
17:14And that humidity.
17:15Flying around the place.
17:18I'm talking to Tony Amoriela from J1 earlier today and he said that we might get a bit of rain this afternoon.
17:25But I'm not sure if that's prolonged or if it's an outburst or just a bit of drizzle.
17:29So maybe later on today we're looking at a little bit of cloud cover.
17:33To cool things down.
17:34Maybe Mother Nature taking care of the track conditions.
17:39Instead of a fire hose.
17:41Sasha Coonan.
17:43Impressive at the moment.
17:51Three race wins for the season so far.
17:54Looking at his fourth.
17:56Six in total.
17:58That'll be when you think of the two qualifying race wins and he's picked up as well.
18:02The last two rounds but.
18:06I got win number four for the season during the Sunday program.
18:10Looks like he's.
18:12Settle down.
18:13He was very fiery.
18:14Wasn't he at the start of the year at the midpoint.
18:16Threw away opportunities.
18:18Just didn't know how to manage his situation.
18:20So.
18:21Obviously David Adikali and the team down there getting into his head a little bit.
18:25Maybe helping him improve his race craft overall.
18:29Because he certainly looks at one with the bike and the track.
18:32Extending his lead.
18:33Just looks like he's out on a training ride.
18:350.3 seconds clear of DeWolf.
18:41Big panic riff there though.
18:43Langenfelder has just set the fastest time in sector two.
18:45And he's now 1.4 seconds behind Kai DeWolf.
18:48So all of a sudden game on second and third.
18:51As Langenfelder fancies his chances.
18:54Maybe a last 10 minute push.
18:56For the German.
18:57Just to pull back.
18:58Second position.
19:00Put some distance.
19:01In fact this is the gap.
19:02It's not 1.4 anymore.
19:06Down to six tenths.
19:07And looking at the intermediate sectors.
19:15DeWolf and Langenfelder respectively.
19:1626.8.
19:1727.0.
19:1832.9.
19:1932.2.
19:20So massive gain there in sector two for Langenfelder.
19:2227.6.
19:2327.8.
19:24Another second.
19:25Pretty much pull back in sector three.
19:28Maybe DeWolf was sitting there thinking.
19:29You know what.
19:30Three second gap.
19:31I've got this kid under control.
19:33As they hit the line.
19:34They're less than a second apart.
19:3555.9 and a 54.9.
19:36McClellan.
19:39Getting around the outside of Carlos Rachelis here.
19:41As he moves up in the way.
19:51So all of a sudden.
19:52Kind of Wolf now.
19:53Has to dig deep and.
19:55Try to go again.
19:58Good effort.
19:59Good charge though.
20:01For the German.
20:06It's like.
20:07The Wolf responding here.
20:08Some of those corners there.
20:09A little bit soupy.
20:10You've got.
20:11Seven or eight lines to choose from.
20:12We've got to make sure you pick the right one.
20:13One might be nice and firm at the bottom.
20:14Another one might be a bit grabby.
20:15Oh.
20:16Oh.
20:17Oh.
20:18Oh.
20:19Oh.
20:21Oh.
20:22Oh.
20:23Oh.
20:24Oh.
20:25Oh.
20:26Oh.

21:19over the far side
21:20didn't look like
21:20he got a good jump
21:21he was on the back
21:21wheel but he was
21:22on that inside line
21:23crucially
21:23DeWolf having
21:25the back bars
21:26with Ferez
21:27on the way in
21:28and then tags
21:28Adamo mid-turn
21:29look how sloppy

28:16further back
28:16no Thibau
28:18Beniston
28:18here this
28:18weekend
28:19of course
28:19withdrawing from the last two rounds
28:22due to that cracked
28:22platella that he picked up in
28:24Arnhem the Netherlands
28:25rode through the pain barrier in Turkey a week ago
28:27but a visit to the specialist revealing that
28:31yeah all wasn't well
28:33so opting not to make the distance and the journey here this last two races
28:40Valan up to 13 now after his fall at the start in turn three
28:47he's got that dry line starting to appear on the outside there of turn three
28:56a minute and 19 to go
28:59Sachin Koonen already in the final sector getting ready to hit the line
29:02any moment now probably and he does go over the line now
29:051.59.071
29:07he's got about a 14 second advantage
29:09over uh
29:17over Kyderwolf
29:18Simon Langenfelder
29:20he's uh
29:21dropped down to 7.3 seconds so he'll go into regroup mode
29:24but that gap as we said
29:26as it was at the start of the weekend
29:2712 points the gap between Langenfelder and De Wolf
29:34here is Regelsinger
29:39looking comfortable i think
29:42although
29:42minute 27 off the lead
29:45with uh three laps to go
29:49when he hits the line next time around
29:51a few corners from now
29:53we've got a right and left past pit lane
29:56and left right left and the run towards the finish line
29:58but impressive this from Sachin Koonen
30:07nearly 14 seconds clear
30:10pebble KTM rider
30:13led every lap in the qualifying race
30:18then every lap so far
30:21in this
30:21first mx2 race
30:25tell you what it likes a panic rev over the triple there doesn't it
30:28fastest in free practice
30:29fastest in time practice
30:31the uh
30:32perfect weekend so far
30:34for Sachin Koonen
30:37if he comes away with the victory here
30:39it's fourth of the season
30:41in this first outing
30:44heat what heat
30:47same boat for everybody
30:48watch us here
30:50stretches it out
30:51looks like he hit a bit of a boot up
30:53on the top
30:54suppose it's better to over jump than under jump
30:56but definitely had a panic rev on for the second time
30:58on that particular part of the racetrack
31:01anyway into the final two laps
31:04before Sachin Koonen looked like he was just getting rid of a tear off there
31:06that may have just got trapped under the
31:08on top of the handlebar between him and the glove
31:10it's lap time 159.975
31:19his best lap came on lap three at 153 so the pace is low in by about six seconds
31:25over the course of the race
31:27Nangenfelders was the best lap of the race though 153.089 so is that going to be the
31:32achievements fastest lap of the weekend in the next two have to wait and see
31:35Valerio Latta and Adamo fourth position
31:40quick pull of the tear off there loses ground loses time and almost lets Adamo buy into fourth place
31:46Latta now just starting to feel the heat
31:48another couple of points gained for Adamo
31:50trying to keep anything alive right now
32:04the team talk after this race will be interesting won't it between
32:08Rasmus Jorgensen and Kai DeWolf
32:13did a great job keep doing what you're doing
32:15just keep picking up those points you're faster than him stronger than him whatever
32:20Langenfelder and Dakali will be good ride
32:25you only lost two points but after the qualifying race yesterday where you had a 14 advantage it's as
32:30you were you're still 12 points clear nothing ventured nothing gained nothing lost at this stage of the weekend
32:37and the greater scheme of things
32:38just try to turn things around in race two
32:44try not to go behind on points or try not to lose points to the Wolf in race two if that's possible
32:52of course we don't know if it's going to rain do we
32:56that's the uh the other scenario
33:00there's uh the land is going through
33:02he's a lap down we're going to be after he fell and lost a lot of time trapped under the
33:13his bike was trapped under the boards and he was trapped under his bike but into the final lap
33:19McClellan has caught his teammate Guillaume Perez two monster energy drives here in seventh and eighth
33:25but it looks like McClellan just eases up the inside of the Spaniard and moves into that seventh place
33:38these two yet to hit the finish line of course to start their final lap
33:41McClellan in terms of uh his championship position is going to be around about seven or eight points
33:56down on Thibaut Benestad in that battle for fifth course Benestad not here this weekend
34:02Gap was 21 at the start of the weekend between those two
34:05Michael Hart finished fifth overall last year at MX2 first year out for the new British brand Triumph
34:20Sasha Koenner off the side of the track
34:23whoa talk about throwing away a 14 second advantage what we said about earlier race management and doing
34:29everything right and all of a sudden a wave of heat is just going to absolutely
34:35rule over his body here he's only a handful of corners away from the line but wow
34:43everything was looking so perfect until it wasn't
34:48cars makers about to go a lap down in 11th place yeah throws his goggles away
34:52needs to breathe underneath that helmet to Sasha Koenner
34:58how much of that was just brain fade forgetting where he was on the racetrack and doing something
35:02completely different who knows but we've got the replay coming up as soon as he hits the line here
35:09now to the final turn Sasha Koenner losing around about seven or eight seconds on the final lap due to
35:15that crash he wins race one but only by the skin of his teeth heart in the mouth moment for the number 19
35:23his fourth win of the season
35:31took off the body language says it all took off and the thing just got away from him somehow
35:37put himself under pressure handful of corners to go
35:39so the Wolf second Langenfelder third all three of them pretty much equidistantly apart there mate
35:477.8 7.4 seconds respectively Sasha Koenner the Wolf the Wolf Langenfelder watch this here
35:52it'll be out of this right hander on the run to this next jump oh there face plants as well just
