00:00Hainton Deegan e Shemota next to each other on the line.
00:02How will they play it?
00:04And they're bumping and banging right off the gate.
00:07And it shoved Shemota to the middle of the pack.
00:10So Shemota has work to do.
00:12And it's Handmaker to the lead.
00:15Yeah, watch this.
00:15Hainton Deegan and Joe Shemota.
00:17And Deegan tuned him up.
00:18Yeah, you saw Hainton going down that straightaway looking over.
00:21He needed to actually do something off the start.
00:23And he did.
00:24Joe Shemota did a great job of staying up.
00:26Yeah.
00:26But it was Seth Handmaker sliding out front.
00:28And this guy has a championship opportunity as well.
00:31Wow, did you see Levi Kitchen doubling into that corner?
00:34I haven't seen anyone do that.
00:36And I know it's only the first half lap of the race.
00:38But if it were to end exactly like this,
00:41Seth Handmaker would be the world champ.
00:43But you've got to expect that Deegan and Shemota will try to move forward.
00:46That would be Megan.
00:47Can you imagine, like Will was saying on her report,
00:50if Handmaker pulled this off with a bummed shoulder,
00:53that would be absolutely incredible.
00:55or what would it be sweet redemption with how the Supercross portion of SMX World Championship
01:00ended up with in Salt Lake City coming up a little bit short.
01:05Oh, he had it ripped from his hands at that Supercross finale.
01:09Can the young man from Pennsylvania get redemption?
01:11Here's Shemota trying to make moves.
01:13He's in eighth place.
01:14Yeah, Joe has to be cool.
01:16Just kind of let this race play out.
01:18Hayden Deegan's going to move up to the front.
01:20You know exactly where you need to be.
01:21You need fourth to better.
01:22No matter what Hayden does, if you're fourth to better,
01:25you're going to win this championship.
01:26What you cannot do is get caught up with these riders early in this race and lose time.
01:31Oh, nice move on Ty Masterpool.
01:33Wow, that was a great pass.
01:34Great drone footage right here.
01:36You can really see the lines develop.
01:37and love Joe's aggressive riding right now, the intensity that he has.
01:44He can play it cool right here, but he's not.
01:46He's moving forward, keeping it going.
01:50That's a Vial.
01:52Lux Turner, another great ride.
01:54Oh, nice move by Shemota on the inside.
01:56Here's the start.
01:56Watch these two.
01:58Yeah, Hayden Deegan's going to get out, and he's just going to shut Joe off.
02:01And Joe noticed that, and he's slowed down.
02:03So heads up, move by this.
02:05But watch Hayden Deegan right here.
02:06We're going to keep an eye on.
02:07He's going to go down this trail.
02:08See him look over.
02:09He's waiting for Joe.
02:11Joe noticed that as well.
02:12So Joe's going to slow up, let him go, and then Hayden tries to put him on the outside.
02:17So heads up, riding by the number 30.
02:19He was well aware of what was going to go down.
02:22And really, I mean, like we talked about around the berm, I mean, if Hayden wins, Joe gets fourth.
02:27That's the only way that Hayden would be able to win the championship.
02:30So he's going to have to get creative on what the movie was going to do.
02:35But now he's got to go out and win the race at this point.
02:38So he would have to let the chips fall where they may.
02:40Shimoda would need to make a couple passes here.
02:43He's in sixth.
02:43And one rider he would have to pass is Deegan's teammate, Dax Bennett.
02:46Deegan, a big leap.
02:48And now he's in a battle with the rider who took him down last week, Levi Kitchen.
02:52Uh-oh, well, it's going to be opened up, and there's no love lost right here.
02:57I'm sure they're probably going to play a clean, you know, Levi, not known as a dirty rider.
03:02So, hey, Deegan, let's see how he plays this, move forward.
03:05And Joe Shimoda's moving up, slides up into that fifth position.
03:09Fennick is next on Shimoda's list.
03:11Yes.
03:12Will Deegan think better of maybe trying to extract some revenge on Kitchen?
03:17and we did mention on the top of the show, Deegan has to be careful.
03:20He did get a written warning earlier in the year with a pass on his teammate Cole Davies
03:25to win the race in Denver.
03:27If the AMA were to deem him another dirty riding incident, he could be penalized points.
03:33Deegan right now just has to get to the front one way or another.
03:36Yeah, Levi was actually really good that first race.
03:39He just went down.
03:40But nonetheless, he's up here.
03:42His teammate's right in front of him, JT.
03:44Yeah, this is the one scenario that I don't think Hayden wanted to deal with
03:48was a very angry Levi Kitchen.
03:51There are a lot of hard feelings between these two.
03:53Hayden certainly feels like he owes him one.
03:55But listen, these guys, you see the pass trying to be made,
03:58but these guys got a verbal altercation even this morning.
04:01So there is certainly hot tempers flying right now.
04:05And I believe Levi's going to try to make life hard here for Hayden.
04:08And is Bennett going to make life hard on Shimoda?
04:10They bumped wheels in the sand.
04:11That's the bottom box battle.
04:15Yeah, we got battles all over.
04:16Yeah, Daxon definitely made it hard on Joe.
04:18He actually clipped his front end, slowing down.
04:20And Joe's got to be careful here.
04:22Just make that pass.
04:23Maybe it's right here after the mechanic.
04:25Got it.
04:26Oh, that was huge for Joe.
04:27Yeah, but he's got to pay attention.
04:29He does not want Daxon to come back in and on the inside.
04:34Deegan still can't get kitchen.
04:35Daxon tried to go to the inside, but he was way too far behind right there.
04:41I appreciate the effort.
04:46That's teammates.
04:47That's Deegan's teammate.
04:49So incredibly, Deegan and Kitchen, the battle again.
04:53That could be the critical juncture because this is allowing Hamaker to hold the lead.
04:56And Hamaker still has the championship in his grasp at this moment.
05:02Oh, that was a nice line by Hayden.
05:04Just wasn't quite close enough.
05:06But I like how he squared it up.
05:08Went to the inside.
05:12There's the point since they run.
05:15Deegan, the pole won't stop.
05:17But no, it gets to the inside.
05:18Tension fights back.
05:20Heads up riding by both these.
05:21And it's only helped Joe Shimoda.
05:24Not that he needs it.
05:25They're doing a good job.
05:26But Shimoda needs more passes.
05:30It's not enough.
05:31Fourth place is not enough.
05:32As we said, it would still be Hamaker with the title.
05:36A lot of racing left here.
05:38These guys are absolutely battling it out.
05:41That's a nice inside line that Kitchen has right there.
05:45Staying out of the rough, accelerating bumps.
05:48And normally when riders are battling like this, they lose that time to Seth.
05:53But they haven't.
05:54And Deegan makes the move with the look back at Kitchen.
05:57Look back at it is what he did.
06:00I don't think Kitchen is going to do anything here.
06:02How does that end?
06:03Oh, Deegan's looking back.
06:05Deegan's looking back at Kitchen.
06:07What is going on?
06:08He wants payback from last week.
06:09But why would you do this with a title of the balance?
06:11Yeah, this is dangerous for Hayden because I think Levi was going to let him go.
06:15But if you play with him, I might have ordered a little takeout from the kitchen over here if he's messing around.
06:21I mean, Deegan has to win this moto to have any shot.
06:23I think that Deegan probably is thinking he don't have a chance.
06:27You know, because he's assuming that, I just guess he'd probably think that he's assuming that Joe is going to be in position to win the championship.
06:35But he's not.
06:35He wants payback.
06:36He's not at the moment, right?
06:38Yeah, but I know exactly what you mean.
06:40You probably saw Joe up in that fourth.
06:42So what's going on?
06:44And they're not losing too much time to Seth.
06:46Hayden has been really fast.
06:48That first moto and even this one.
06:50So we'll find out.
06:53All right.
06:54So now the focus switches to Shimoda.
06:58Can he get to Kitchen?
07:00And again, remember, yes, Kitchen is not really in title contention.
07:05He's fifth in points.
07:06But every position still pays a lot of money.
07:08No reason for Kitchen to make life easy on the 30.
07:12Man, you talk about redemption for Hamburger if it ended this way.
07:19And a heartbreak for Joe.
07:21Yeah, for sure.
07:22And I was a little wrong on that.
07:23I was hating.
07:24I mean, Joe needs to finish fourth.
07:26If Hayden wins, not as Seth wins.
07:29That's right.
07:29Joe has to be third or better on that point.
07:31So a little off on that.
07:34This is unbelievable.
07:36JT.
07:37It is unbelievable, Jason.
07:39And listen, I just grabbed a tinfoil hat from nearby.
07:41And I'm going to sprinkle in a little crazy here.
07:44Do you think there's any chance that Hayden gets to the lead and tries to bunch him up?
07:48Is there any way he just says, you know what?
07:50My only shot here is just to try to create chaos if we all four get together.
07:55You can't do that according to the rules, right?
07:57Well, even if he does that, these four routers, if Hayden wins, that only helps Joe.
08:03He can stay in that fourth position.
08:05So if he bunches him up, I don't really know what the win would be.
08:11Well, if Shimoda gets, as you mentioned, James, to Kitchen and gets to third,
08:16it's a tie for the overall.
08:18The tie would still go to Hamburger.
08:19So this could be a no.
08:21As Deegan goes after Hamburger, if he rips the lead away from Seth,
08:25that could actually benefit Shimoda.
08:28Oh, they almost touch.
08:29Hayden's got some incredible lines through that tight stuff.
08:33Inside left, Deegan sets it.
08:36Wheel to wheel.
08:37It's a drag race on the drag strip.
08:45Deegan to the lead.
08:48Looks like Joe Shimoda might win.
08:49With it.
08:50Deegan's the point leader.
08:54Shimoda must get to third if Deegan wins the moto.
08:57Well, and this is where Kitchen needs to be a good teammate as well
09:01and work for Seth Hamacher because you never know what could happen to Hayden.
09:08Oh.
09:11Need to start looking at my son's third grade math to get him struggling, folks.
09:14These triple points is really changing it up, and that's why it's here.
09:19What race so far?
09:20He looked back again.
09:21I don't know.
09:22JT might be on to something here.
09:24Wait, I think we got to ride her down.
09:26I might be missing one of the riders.
09:27Oh, Kitchen.
09:29And that would move Shimoda up.
09:32Kitchen went down and went off the track, and that would move Shimoda to third.
09:36And he's catching Hamacher.
09:38What a rally by the 30.
09:39Wow.
09:43I love the fight, Joe.
09:45He could be playing it cool right now.
09:47And that mistake by Kitchen was the pass Shimoda needed.
09:52Let's see what happens to Levi.
09:54I don't think anything happened between him and Joe.
09:56He comes in here and probably loses the rear end.
10:00Oh.
10:00Wait a minute.
10:02Oh, no.
10:02He's saying something's wrong with his motorcycle.
10:04Yeah, well, actually, I would say that's true.
10:11I mean, he's dropping through the field.
10:12I was wondering if he was hooking Joe up, but that's a lot of money as he drops down halfway
10:17through, stock up on Monster Energy now at Smith's.
10:23Man, could you imagine if Joe up?
10:26You could imagine if Joe caught up past Deegs.
10:29Yeah, Deegan's slowing down.
10:30Well, yeah, I think JT's onto it.
10:32I don't think Deegan knows Shimoda in second.
10:35He won't win the title.
10:35So will he try to pull Shimoda into a battle?
10:39I mean, he has to do something.
10:41But again, he's on probation.
10:42So at that point, if he tries to take Joe down, then he's leaving it in the hands of the
10:49refs.
10:49Joe, if I'm Joe, I just stay behind him.
10:51Oh, here it is.
10:52And Joe got by.
10:54Oh, boy.
10:54Yeah, I can tell you this ain't going to sit well with AMA on there, so it might be all
10:59for nothing.
11:00But it's good to be here on this race.
11:04Now, we did talk to AMA yesterday.
11:05It's kind of hard to define what is fully dirty riding and would there be a penalty for
11:10Deegan?
11:10Joe might just be about to find out.
11:14Yeah, I'm probably assuming Hayden probably won't do anything to him besides trying to make
11:18Joe nervous and maybe go down.
11:20Yeah, I don't know.
11:25I mean, watch it play out.
11:30This is unbelievable.
11:33And no one's more confused than Joe.
11:35There it is.
11:36He rammed him.
11:37Now, Hamaker's back in it.
11:39Take that back.
11:40Yeah.
11:45This is title trauma on the highest order because we just don't know how far Deegan will be
11:49allowed to go.
11:51I mean, Joe is not scared.
11:53No, he is just taking it on.
11:57No, he's not in it.
11:59This is what he kind of had to do.
12:01It's even if I was in Hayden, Joe wins that first motor, depending on what happens.
12:05You almost have to follow him.
12:07I didn't think he would hit him, but hopefully Joe gets nervous and he goes down.
12:11That's the only thing Hayden can help ask for.
12:13And you talk about the SMX format, and it is proving right now.
12:20This is what they've been put in.
12:23This position to.
12:24Yeah, even his mechanic is aware of it.
12:28His mechanic just says seven laps, but be smart.
12:30So essentially, he's telling Hayden, calm down.
12:34Calm down.
12:34Okay, again, if Deegan wins the motor, he needs Shimoda to go all the way back to fourth.
12:41He's not going to have a lot of help because Vial is 10 seconds back.
12:46Give me the Rocky Mountain ATV MC team update.
12:49That's on Deegan's squad.
12:50Monster Energy, Yamaha, Star Racing.
12:53Thrasher is sixth.
12:54Benick has gone back to 10th.
12:55Anstey is 15th.
12:57Deegan is in second.
12:58Will he stay there?
13:00Yeah, that's impressive.
13:01Joe right there hitting that double.
13:02It's the first time he did it all day, and I'll tell you, if I'm Joe, I'm going to try to pull away and just say, take this.
13:12Look at the crowd.
13:16Well, I think the only thing left for Hayden to do at this point is just wait until the end of the race, last couple laps,
13:25and if you have the speed to catch back up to Joe, then you've got to get creative with what you're going to do,
13:31and it leaves Joe with not a lot of time to retaliate.
13:37James, I just want you to talk about what's inside the helmet.
13:39Normally, just battling for a win is gnarly enough, but Shimoda doesn't really know what Deegan has planned if he catches him.
13:45No, he knows what he's got planned.
13:48His plan is to knock him down, but I will say this.
13:51Joe has been, you've got to be really impressed by Joe to continue to race for it.
13:55All day he's been racing for it, and all year long during the outdoors, Joe Shimoda rides Joe Shimoda's race,
14:02and that's exactly what he's doing.
14:03I believe any other rider on this racetrack would be struggling right now,
14:07but Joe Shimoda being himself is allowing him to be here, JT.
14:11Well, James, yeah, I just want to give it up there.
14:13We've officially sold out a tinfoil hat down here, but what is the move for Hayden now?
14:18Like, we're going to find out what his intentions are, because for all sorts of purposes, there's nothing to be gained now.
14:24He's not going to.
14:25He'll be penalized if he knocks Joe down.
14:27He really can't win the championship.
14:29Hamaker would be in better position at that point.
14:32So we're going to find out now, is this just about he's angry and wants Joe to end up on the ground?
14:37And if he does it, I think, like Ricky says, it's going to come down to the very end.
14:41Yeah, I agree.
14:41At this point, it's like, you know, Joe's like, man, I didn't do that with Levi last weekend,
14:46and the only thing that can happen between these two is that Seth ends up winning this championship
14:51because these two are playing around.
14:53But, I mean, I think, yeah, I mean, we can speculate all day long,
14:59and I just watch it play out and see what happens.
15:01He's back to him again.
15:03He goes by.
15:04He cuts him off.
15:05He looks over.
15:06He slows down.
15:08He's doing it again.
15:09Oh, this is great.
15:13Yeah, and the hard part for Joe, he wants to slow down and let Hayden go by.
15:16But Hayden's going to slow down as well, which is going to bring all the rest of this bill in.
15:21So, if you're kind of stuck in a position, the only thing you can do is just continue to ride
15:26and wait for it because it's coming.
15:30Oh, boy.
15:32There it is.
15:34He hit him, but he didn't knock him off the track.
15:38You're putting it in the referee's hands at this point.
15:40Well, yeah, I mean, yeah, he is 100%, 100%.
15:44Joe's just going to have to be really, really mindful, and also, you know,
15:49he don't want his bike to get hurt as well.
15:52I mean, Perlmore himself, but break something on the bike.
15:57Yeah, no.
15:57Mistake by Joe.
15:58Oh, and now they're both down, and there goes Hamaker.
16:02Exactly the way Hamaker lost the title in Salt Lake City.
16:10And now Hamaker, the beneficiary, but I don't think it'll be enough points,
16:13and Deegan has called it.
16:16Oh, it's...
16:16Deegan's walking off.
16:19Yeah, he was pointing at his collarbone.
16:21Oh, no.
16:24Did he just hurt himself?
16:28Wow.
16:30Yeah.
16:34Yeah.
16:36I can't believe it.
16:42And there is more racing this year.
16:43Motocross of Nations coming up.
16:45Team USA.
16:45Deegan is a part of that unit.
16:49Sure is quiet here.
16:51Yeah, no, I think we all is quiet at home.
16:53We're all sitting here because it just kept continuing going on.
16:58He thought Hayden would take a few shots, but it kept going.
17:02Right.
17:03I mean, we talked about it on our calls all week.
17:06I mean, and this is...
17:08He didn't have to do what he was doing, but this was his only chance,
17:13Hayden's chance to do something and possibly get this championship.
17:18But it's just, like you said, his back was against the wall, Will.
17:22Will.
17:23Guys, if this is dad, Brian, talked about exactly this scenario with me.
17:28He said, go out there, you know, as I told you guys earlier, he does his own thing.
17:33He knows how to handle this.
17:34He said, all I want is for him to stay healthy through this.
17:38It's not worth the injury.
17:40It's not worth setting back next season or Motocross of Nations, as we talked about.
17:44This is obviously the very last thing that they wanted in this scenario.
17:51Well, you got the Motocross of Nations coming up in a couple weeks,
17:55so this would be a massive blow to the race team there.
18:00Yeah, USA, so a lot on the line.
18:04Hold on here.
18:05Zappiel catching Shimoda, and Hamaker is in the lead.
18:11So look at the overall positions right here.
18:14Shimoda has a one-point edge on Hamaker.
18:17If Shimoda gets passed, Hamaker is going to win the Moto and the tiebreaker and the overall.
18:24Wow, but it wouldn't be the title, but, man, Shimoda is definitely not logging fast laps here.
18:33Yeah, if I'm thinking, I think, yes, F will win overall, but I do believe Joe is still finished second.
18:38Yeah.
18:39So he's okay at the moment.
18:42They're still cheering VL on.
18:45There's Hamaker.
18:47Again, he was battling for the championship earlier this year.
18:50He got taken down by RJ Hebshanger.
18:52While they were on the ground, VL went by them to unseat both of them and win the 250 East Division title.
19:00Almost an exact replay with two liners on the ground.
19:03This time, Hamaker, the beneficiary, but he's not quite close enough in points to pull off the miracle.
19:09Yeah, you know, when Seth rode around, Hayden, and Joe on the ground, he probably looked over and said,
19:14Man, I was there before.
19:15I don't know how that feels.
19:17Salt Lake City, that was tough.
19:19And the five penalty points that Hamaker got in Charlotte with the Red Cross might make the difference at the end here.
19:28Oh, tough block tagging by VL.
19:31Shimoda on cruise mode here.
19:33What do you think, boys?
19:34I think Shimoda is like we are right now, just shook up.
19:38But I can tell you who's on their feet of this crowd.
19:40They really appreciate the ride that Joe has had.
19:43They've been cheering him every lap so far, and so am I.
19:47I mean, what's a lot to like about Joe?
19:49I mean, he's an incredible person when you get the opportunity to talk to him, follow him on his Instagram if you don't know him.
19:58I mean, he's just a fun-loving dude.
20:01And I'll tell you what, in a pressure-packed weekend, in a situation, to come out here and do what he has done is so impressive.
20:11Absolutely.
20:13Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
20:15We talked on the call and said you're going to learn a lot about these riders, especially Joe Shimoda moving forward next year.
20:22No matter what happened with his championship, he is a different rider.
20:25And he's smart.
20:26He lets VL go by because that will not affect the championship.
20:30Going to be white flag coming around in a heart-stopping final moto.
20:36Thrasher is next, but he's so far back.
20:38Yeah, I'd ride it off to the checkers right here.
20:42HRC is probably like, what, you're way too close, just let him go, let him go.
20:47And incredibly, as the white flag comes out, it is a five-point differential between Hamaker and Shimoda,
20:55the exact amount of points that Hamaker was penalized at the first race.
21:01And he would have the tiebreaker, he would have won the title, not for the penalty.
21:05But now it shifts to Shimoda, who's in another battle here.
21:11Isn't this so Joe-like?
21:12He's doing his thing, he's going to still continue to race for it.
21:17Yeah, Lars is like, yo, what are you doing?
21:19Let him go, let him go.
21:20And what a journey to get here.
21:24Joe Shimoda was just too fast for the competition over there in Japan.
21:28His dad knew he needed to come to the United States, so they moved here.
21:31Joe went to high school in Southern California, did not speak any English at all.
21:37Mom and dad just dropped him off at school.
21:39Joe tells the story that every day he'd go to the principal's office, not because he was in trouble.
21:44He didn't know where to go.
21:45And they would just walk in the class every morning.
21:47He couldn't ask for directions.
21:49He did not speak English.
21:50He was thrown into American high school to become a motocross supercross racer in America.
21:57Even as an amateur, he barely spoke any English.
22:00He's come such a long way.
22:01The fans have fallen in love with his personality.
22:03He's one of the favorites on the track.
22:05And now that journey is going to pay off with the world title.
22:09And this man, Seth Hamaker, a breakout year.
22:12He's going to come up so close to two titles.
22:16But he's shown his grit.
22:18And he's just a grinder.
22:20Didn't ride through the winters in Pennsylvania.
22:23Peaked at the right time as a professional.
22:24Hamaker's going to win in Vegas.
22:28Joe Shimoda's long journey is over.
22:31He is the world champion.
22:33And he wins the overall because he makes the pass at the last lap.
22:37That's right.
22:38What?
22:38That's Joe, baby.
