00:28progressive hole shot here we go Sexton laid off the gate Hunter Lawrence leads
00:34them into turn one and the progressive hole shot to Lawrence Cooper Webb right
00:38there Jet Lawrence bobbled in the first corner so Lawrence up front and another
00:44Lawrence toward the back as Roxanne now battles Tomek for second yeah Hunter
00:49Lawrence again this is his round and I think this is a perfect place to be at
00:53we see how strong he's been every year in the second round but on this track the
00:57way he rides he's very smooth very technical he's going to feel the flow
01:01good to see the 94 and Eli Tomek right behind it's gonna be a great race there
01:05well this is massive for all of these guys running up front and the reason that
01:09is is because Chase Sexton and Jet Lawrence are the outside of the top ten right
01:15now and this is going to be huge from a world championship standpoint Jet was
01:22actually 21st around the hole shot line is now up to 16th on lap one as Roxanne and
01:28Tomek try to keep Hunter Lawrence in sight try to give you a replay show you what
01:33happened here off the start Sexton is 8th and again Lawrence now 15th and Roxanne so
01:40strong early let's watch the four and the one
01:42yeah Jet's a little late off the gate you can see he gets close out by the 32 of Justin Cooper so
01:48he has to slow down and he's behind Kenny as well and just watch all the riders from
01:52the outside look at him in the 51 of Justin Barsha coming down puts that left leg leg down
01:58then he gets checked up as well Barsha hits the brakes he has to go all the way to the
02:03outside only one guy behind him yeah he crashed twice and never hit the ground right there man
02:07that was good for him to stay up but he's got a lot of work good thing is he's got some time and
02:12this is the hardest part Jet Lawrence he's so used to being out front you got to worry about this stuff and
02:16as a title this can end it right here if he has a gets caught over one of these guys he'll figure
02:21it out well and I think too this is you talk about weaknesses I think an area where Jet could be a
02:28little bit better is that early intensity I feel like that's kind of been his shortfall all season
02:34long and this is where it shows itself when you're so far behind getting held up now by the Swiss native
02:41Valentin Guillaume and that actually allowed momentarily for Justin Hill to get by Jet
02:45now he's going back after Guillaume able to close it off there with Mitch Oldenburg right in front of
02:52him so the toughest track to pass on probably all year and the defending champ is out of the top 10.
02:58Yeah but you got to you got to give Jet credit every time he's been in a position he might not be able to
03:02come and win but he always just marches his way up and I felt like in my career there was a couple
03:07times where I would rush and then I would end up getting caught up in these guys and just ruin my
03:11race so maybe the wind's not there but you're taking maybe of 18th and getting that third fifth
03:17place that's what he's been able to do and that's why he has a number one play he's smart enough to do a
03:21nice pass right there got Oldenburg on that liquid Molly beta Oldenburg one of the riders coming back
03:26for the playoffs did not race pro motocross this year now we had another incident Cody shock
03:32check out to Cody shock right here all right watch him this is what happens when you get a bad start
03:40if you're Jet Lawrence and just by happenstance you run there he collides with the four Cody shock
03:45does watch he ejects from the bike goes over the handlebars luckily doesn't take Chase Sexton with
03:52him oh he got stuck under the motorcycle though riders going yeah get stuck under the motorcycle hate
03:57to see it for Cody hopefully he'll be all right wow that was close Jet Lawrence trying to get around
04:04both Justin Barsha and Dylan Ferrandez right now that he's 11th that'd be top 10 if he can make the
04:10move JT yeah there's something going on with Jet Lawrence in St. Louis think about how
04:15his weekend it went here in 2024 that rider he tagged twice in the first quarter as the rider that's
04:21right in front of him I don't have to remind her maybe I do that crash last year between he and
04:26Justin Barsha he jumped on a red cross flag last year that cost him a race win in the triple crown
04:31he has not had any luck at all here tonight if he's going to come away with his third super motocross
04:37world championship playoff he's going to have to do damage control and do it right now well I just
04:43want to like I was noticing something watching you guys in the pro motocross championship in the
04:47broadcast as I feel that the other manufacturers the other teams have closed the gap on the starting
04:54advantage that that factory Honda HRC team had early on in the pro motocross championship on an average
05:01because you remember it was always Jet always Hunter out front and that's really not the case like it
05:06was early on in the motocross season yeah no I agree it definitely has and we can see the difference
05:11but I'm going to go back to that the tire setup that Will broke down that paddle tire and with
05:17him having it all what it's going to do is allow him you can see him sliding out he's losing a lot
05:21of traction in the rear and it's going to be hard to make passes because you won't be able to run
05:25outside the line and that's where a traditional regular tire you'll have that grip on the racetrack
05:30to be able to switch it up he's struggling right now I saw the last lap over the finish line he ripped
05:34those tear offs with a little bit of anger so it's going to be curious to see how he ends up racing this
05:38with that tire well I can tell you from a fan point of view and we're all SMX fans this is what
05:44I love about this format we are going to have a fantastic rest of the night here in St. Louis
05:51but it is basically going to be a winner take all when we go to Vegas next weekend with the double
05:56points triple points this is so exciting yeah especially with Tomac doing well right and he's
06:02a contender and then Hunter out front Kenny as well and his brother Hunter you remember going back
06:08last year Hunter they tied yes they tied for the championship that's right and Jack got it because
06:15he did better on the last moto as for Sexton he sits trying to close on Justin Cooper bottom box is
06:22Tomac and Roxen in a battle for second and again it's a two moto format you take the two results
06:29together to determine it overall a little different than pro motocross which pays points in each
06:33individual moto Ricky the number one struggling right now looking at his back and I think a lot
06:39of that's coming from the tire it seems like when he's up forward he wants to push forward the bike's
06:44not moving forward and I think a lot of that comes from the tires just spinning up so he's coming up
06:48short on jumps losing the rear and coming out of some of these corners so he's doing a good job
06:52not hitting the ground but it's going to be tough for him to make his way up to these two guys right
06:56here Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton he's got to get on the move as well and now Cooper Webb is in
07:02their sight in that blue jersey the number two so it's a three-rider fight for fourth and Justin
07:07Cooper's got the line and makes the move Webb fights back yeah those hands are run by Cooper
07:13Justin came in but he's clearly he's got the pace I'm Chase Sexton I'm like man we're back in a dome
07:19again that number two is back in front of me seemed like I saw a lot of that earlier this year those two
07:24battling for the Supergrass Championship here's the split lane love this giving the riders options
07:30Justin Cooper going to try the outside on Cooper Webb and remember late in the year he was right in
07:36there battling with them helping run some interference for his teammate Webb but now it's every man for
07:41himself and somehow Webb able to hold off Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton frustrating part of the track
07:48right there it all kind of bottles up into one line yeah and it looks like that outside is faster
07:54but you got to get alongside of that guy to be able to close him out because once you get around
07:58you get next to him but you're on the outside of the next corner and you ain't going around the
08:02outside of Cooper Webb he he'll let you know uh-huh not happening on his watch so critical right now
08:09for Sexton the runner-up last week to get these points but it's not going to be easy to pass the
08:15three-time Supercross champ and now into the tough blocks held up by Webb is Justin Cooper can Sexton
08:20take advantage and he does yeah 32 is getting hung up bad behind the three-time Supercross champ and
08:27just know where he could know where that he could go Sexton since that goes to the outside makes the
08:34move yeah it was funny I'm looking at Chase's body he's like come on Mike come on I can try to get to
08:38him because I need to get beside him he was trying but nice pass bomb he needed to make that once he
08:43got caught and he knows how difficult it is to pass the number two of Cooper Webb our Supercross
08:47champion yeah these two took it down to the wire it was really about a point between them
08:52in the Monster Energy Supercross championship the always fast Sexton and the wily veteran Webb
08:59another battle where they're about to hook it up and these are all points to lead to the world

09:42shut that door and close that inside he just committed and caught Cooper Webb maybe sleeping a
09:47little bit of a nice move by him I think Chase is faster but he had to get around that number two
09:51because the number one's closing up behind him as well he is and I was just going to say you talk
09:57about the one closing in we're only halfway we have a lot of racing left we're going to get into
10:03lappers so uh this is a great opportunity still for Chase to move up the uh up the ladder as well as the
10:09one got the Tron Aries drone cam reminder only in theaters on October 10th coming soon but Hunter
10:17Lawrence getting it done right now yeah we'll see how far forward Sexton and Jet Lawrence can go
10:21see on the uh timing and scoring Jet Lawrence getting by uh Hampshire now he's rolling he knows
10:27time is running out yeah well he knows how important it is to get all the way up because
10:32it's double points and it's two races so both photos count it's not like the normal supercross where
10:37this is a heat race in gate position this is going to count and we know how important it is
10:41and it's working out but what I like about what he's doing he's taking that and using that tire he's
10:47staying in the loose part of the dirt so he's able to square that corner up stay out of that
10:51slippery stuff he's starting to figure out make it work Ricky that was an incredible pass you could
10:55see it lining up he goes takes a wide entry to the corner turns down accelerates hard out of that
11:02corner will Ricky I'm just looking at how well Jet is you know regardless of the bad start how well
11:08he's riding right now and obviously his brother Hunter up front and I was talking to crew chief
11:12Grant Hutchson earlier about the guys set up there on their hunters and asked him sort of you know
11:17supercross outdoors where are we and he said look if it was up to me I would just be going
11:22full supercross I open the computer I look at the data and say hey you guys need to ride your
11:26supercross setup but they don't want that that's right they've come out of full out for a season
11:31so he says I have to adjust for how they feel on the bike and I just found that interesting Ricky
11:36that they just it's not that simple well it's not that simple when you ride a really soft cushy
11:42setting all season long and then you throw on some suspension even if it's suspension that you
11:47want a championship on one racing it takes some adjustment time getting used to like a same pass
11:54yeah same pass man he's figured out and go back to the early part of the races he wasn't hitting
12:00those corners that way as he gets up the inside of Cooper Webb he was more on the lean now he's in
12:05there coming in and squaring that bike up and what he's trying to do is keep that tire on the meat of
12:09the tires straight up and down because that's where he's going to have the most traction and when
12:13he's lean it's going to be a struggle he's figuring it out he's trying to figure out this racetrack
12:17indeed we asked him his thoughts on it yesterday
12:19it's exciting I think it's going to be kind of like how LA was it when it was in the stadium
12:29it kind of a little more supercrossy but this uh this dirt's always been prime it's uh so I'm
12:34looking forward to it um we haven't seen the layout just yet but once we do we'll go out there and
12:40figure it out and have some fun it's uh cool hopefully the track ruts up nice and we see how
12:45it goes but um looking forward to it being inside a dome we've got some nice ac it's not because hot
12:50outside right now which ain't normal here but um no looking forward to it so uh hopefully the layout's
12:56cool flows nicely and yeah I'm just excited to ride this dirt because this dirt's awesome
13:00we hear some sound from jet and I have a question for james and ricky concerning that script tire you
13:06saw him really struggling early on but the guy out front with a six second lead and then the guy in
13:11third are both using that same tire that we were wondering the effectiveness of so the question
13:17is do you think that was a situational thing where jet is panicking panicking a bit being way too
13:23aggressive for the situation overriding the tire where hunter and eli in great position are being more
13:29patient and using the tire where it works best no yeah i i agree i think it's a little bit of both
13:35you know hunter and eli being out front it's it'll work jet has figured out how to make it work hunter
13:40lawrence eli tomat they're making it figure out how to work but it's when you don't get the start and
13:44you have to change lines and you need to be able to switch it up and run outside the main line that's
13:48where the the scoop tire might be a struggle but jet has changed his lines and he's figured it out and now
13:54he's closing in on chase sexton and ricky if he gets him who that's going to be a maybe a huge blow
13:59for the number four rogers battling right there go ahead i i actually think uh jt it's a little bit
14:05like what i was talking about earlier i think jet rides super conservative early on in the races
14:10and wait until things kind of settle out and that's i think there's a part of what you were saying
14:16is what we saw there because of that but i just watched jet lawrence on that off camera turn from
14:22the inside he doubled that out of the corner that's probably where he's making some time yeah yeah he's
14:28got to figure it out because sometimes we we saw hayden deegan and jet lawrence switch up lines adjusting
14:33and the router that adjusts on this type of track he's probably gonna have the best opportunity to win
14:37and he's adapting to it on his way up to number four yeah he's made up a ton of time and quickly bottom
14:43box again justin cooper and cooper webb battling a little rematch from where they were about five
14:48minutes ago six and a mistake yeah that was a nice save and that's what's happening is that there's
14:53a hard base and all that sand's been drug onto that hard base it was like throwing sand on concrete
14:58chase went to go hit the front brakes he did a good job of not going down but i think he's going to try
15:02to fight jet loan he's got to do at all costs check this out i didn't do it that time yeah he would
15:07have jumped on it that's right yeah that's right but i like this line too he's staying out of this run
15:12right there and he's staying on the inside he kind of slid out yep it's a good drive bike's not
15:17bouncing around as much oh such a critical juncture for the riders there were one two in last week's
15:24race one two in the championship fight as well love his corner exits right here james setting up early
15:31turning down check right here yeah you see that he's squaring up and getting that bikes up and down
15:37now he has the inside chase better close the gap he's used this before got to the inside of the sand
15:44oh he's got it got him oh man i don't know i don't know yeah you do he should have leaned
15:51he should have leaned on him at that point but you know i think chase got stuck in a weird spot
15:56because there's about seven seconds to eli so i think he was moving forward when he was catching
16:00justin cooper all those guys and he doesn't he's not racing before he started racing behind him and
16:04at number one got him but ricky you gotta lean on him you you close the door in that situation there
16:10ain't no way i'm leaving a door open and you ain't doing it either and i'm going to tell you what
16:14from an overall standpoint if it were to end like this that was a that was a really clutch pass and
16:21a very important move i believe from an overall standpoint and with a double point every pass means
16:26more than it would in a typical race and look who's taking advantage of all this hunter lawrence
16:32excellence of execution the start ending we haven't seen a mistake as far as we can tell james called
16:37it on his keys to the race yeah well that was pretty easy to do his records pretty here but jason i'm
16:42gonna go back remember we were talking off camera um earlier today before tonight oh finally a mistake
16:49that supercross right there even though you you think you got it ain't over until you cross that
16:54checkered flag but yeah hunter lawrence that was a nice day by him but we were talking off camera
16:58said who did i say he's gonna have a good night you did and why he was gonna do it and he's doing
17:03that perfectly tonight hunter lawrence is feeling it yep we asked about the format here and what his
17:08thoughts are battling for this title yesterday
17:13it's very important you know obviously get back in the fight double points this weekend so yeah a little
17:17more urgency absolutely so it's uh it'll be good be good okay james what is it about hunter lawrence's
17:25style that you thought would work so well on this track well one he's a great starter and on the
17:29track that is hard to pass the only one that's making passes really from a back is his team his
17:33brother on jet lawrence but if he got his start he was fast last week and he had to pass his lap time
17:39but this particular track being very smooth we saw jet maybe overriding a little bit hunter lawrence
17:44doesn't do that he's very patient he's very smooth on the throttle he sits down in the right spot he
17:49makes that bike work on the slippery track and i thought if he got that start no matter who was
17:53behind him jet included this track would suit the 96 and man history would say he's figured out these
18:00second rounds but this track he's feeling good and those green lights look good on that honda right
18:04there no doubt won the second race of 2023 in the 250 class second race of the 450 class in 2024
18:11eli toback starting to close on ken roxton for a second i tell you what though kenny's been riding
18:16having really good pace this whole race i mean he's kept uh probably two second lead on eli eli is
18:23starting to close in the gap however they're getting into lappers not sure how that's uh working for ken
18:28but nevertheless this is a strong ride for kenny you think about ken coming here when he he won his
18:34race the first race back from those gnarly injuries all the way back in 2020 so uh it's really no surprise
18:41to me kind of that uh kenny has good vibes here will he has but he also has had a lot of time off
18:48the bike and checking with larry brooks team manager over there at suzuki progressive suzuki he said we're
18:54having to chase that he's like yeah the last time he was on track it was on a supercross track and
18:58obviously like he's already talked about the season was going great but as he's racing into fitness we're
19:03having to chase that with bike setter so really right now i mean they were working when i spoke
19:08to them earlier on today they were constantly working throughout the qualifying and practice
19:12rounds so obviously they they found something that gave ken some comfort because like you said he looks
19:18fantastic yeah you're talking about chase who's chasing him down is that number one jet lawrence man
19:23he's starting he's on the same straightaway these guys are getting caught up with these lap riders
19:27number one is closing up and if he keeps that pace you're gonna have a three right uh three
19:32router fight for the second place i'll give you some context jet lawrence ran a 112 last lap okay the
19:38second fastest was hunter at a 114 third fastest was justin cooper at a 114 that is a substantial amount
19:46of time and 115s for tomac and roxson there's lawrence on the outside of the split lane and like you
19:53said james in some of these longer sections right here he can see the back of tomac yeah i think a
19:58little bit of those lap times where those guys getting caught up in a lap rider that was nasty
20:02thanks good job uh jeff right there he's doing everything because he knows how important if he
20:06gets to that second place it's good as the first uh the second is as good as the first for this first
20:11moto yeah you have no shot to win this overall but jet's close and he's got to stay patient you don't
20:16want to override it gonna have two laps left yeah those guys have picked up the pace as well he revved the engine
20:22right there when uh he closed up on justin hill says uh i'm coming now this is going to be
20:28interesting to see what he can do these next two laps clock just expired so it'll be one to go next
20:34time around for the leader hunter lawrence cooper webb under fire from rj hemshire clearly webb
20:40that knee surgery during the summer twisted it at the red button pro moto cross round this is not
20:45quite the same cooper webb that won the supercross title earlier in the year got passed by his teammate
20:51and now might be passed by hemshire yeah but this is the normal rj this guy's always strong at the
20:57end of races and he always gives you the business he ain't afraid to run it in we've seen that salt
21:02lake city just asked setz maker he'll run it in on you uh but good no i don't know what happened rj
21:07off the start but nonetheless he's moving forward yeah incredible ride by rj marching through the field and
21:13we've talked about it all night on the track that is really hard to pass that's impressive passing a
21:18three-time supercross champ and how about hunter lawrence fourth last week white flag now out looking
21:25for the first moto win yeah this hunter is he stays up that's pretty good but you hear this crowd
21:31revving up in the background well look at those lap times seven eight nine these guys are with them
21:35one a couple seconds jett lawrence is pushing the pace got a battle for second on the last lap oh and
21:40that is so critical tomac and roxon especially tomac needs to make up some points on jett lawrence
21:47it's got to hold him off at all three now on the side together oh jett almost went down right there
21:52he jumped into those tough blocks and you know you can tell he's trying to push it but if i'm ken
21:56roxon and eli tomac let's work together let's become teammates let's not slow each other down
22:01eli throw out them boots man make that bike really wide keep that number one behind you
22:05that number one behind you split lane coming up too these guys are so polished they have so much
22:10experience rarely do they make a mistake this late in the game and there's the split lane jett goes
22:16outside yeah if i'm jett i gotta stay get really close to eli because i think my other opportunity
22:22to pass might be where mechanics area if eli goes a little wide to try to hit that triple i might sneak
22:27up on the inside and there's that double uses it to get right behind the two-time supercross champion
22:33he's got to get him on the last corner james he's got to turn down early like he's been doing yeah
22:37eli got out of the corner hunter lawrence wins the first moto here in st louis right down to the last
22:43turn it goes jett with a charge it'll be roxon towback jett lawrence across the line yeah but that was
22:51really smart riding by eli he went down and closed that inside because jet was going to set him up ricky
22:56as you were saying but he went in a little far the inside jett almost got him but the scoop tire worked
23:02out he got enough traction to get it done impressive ride by hunter just quiet silent going out there
23:09getting the job done double points he's probably like oh so jet so that's what it feels like to
23:15just be out clean number plate right about a 96
