00:00On motocross here this weekend at Southwick and I guess the question could be can he live up to the billing but that's all he's done all season long. So I guess the bigger onus is really on everyone else. He's trying to match him. Yeah it really is. I mean you can see where Hayden's mindset is but again that's why we line him up when we go racing because anything can happen and just that highlight we saw Hayden going down last year so you know this track here at Southwick presents his own challenge so we're going to find out next 30 plus two.
00:29And the starts have actually been a weakness for Deegan this year both in supercross and motocross. Does not have a hole shot outdoors yet. Had three at this point last year so let's see what kind of launch he gets. Going a little bit outside. I wouldn't say it's a weakness I'd just say he's probably not as focused on it. Maybe doesn't need to be. Let's find out. Rebs are up. Gates down. Well he's certainly got the launch this time.
00:54Deegan has that first hole shot of the year. And you were saying Jack. Okay is he more focused on that today. Yeah well he most probably he probably doesn't want to get dirty out here but he you know it's just like I mean there's a lot of motivation to what he just saw what Jet Lawrence did in that 450 class.
01:12And Hayden knows he can get out here and execute these first few lapses and we see Tom Vial trying to get around the 93 and Michael Moseman. He can put this race away early and really just ride this race on out. But good to see Tom Vial and Mikko Nore up in here.
01:29Harap excuse me. It's right there. Oh and then someone just tucked the front and went down. Was that Hamaker right behind Harap and then Jalik Swole was the next. Oh that got close. Yeah that was a heads up riding by both those guys because that gap started closing down and both of them made the decision. So yeah I think that was. I thought Jalik Swole was up there. So it must have been Seth Hamaker that went down. Bummer for him.
01:53Yeah because Kitchen that's the other monster proser to Kawasaki is still there on the 47. Look man I know Deegan gets motivated when people say he's got a weakness. That was record time. I mean five seconds after I said no hold shots he has one. I swear he's not listening to the show as it goes but he's already pulling away. He's got Moseman second and here's Vial third.
02:13Nah he's got the teleport right there. Jason said I'm struggling. I'll do him but he wasn't even close so you know we're good. But I think that really comes down to a lot with the track and Hayden being his third time here. He knows division is a big thing so why don't you make life easier on yourself by getting out front.
02:31I mean Jent Lawrence wasn't much different in that 450 moto. He always gets starts but that early pulling away. So now the battle shifts to second. Moseman who is quick and qualifying and has really been building throughout this pro motocross championship running well in second of the 93.
02:47Yeah Michael's been around really good all year long and especially this motocross series and he's been up in the top five a few motos and just has some falls here and there that you know the finishes are not as good as what he's been riding.
02:58So for him good to see him up there but I'm really interested to see what Tom Vial does. He's been talking about you know he's.
03:04Uh oh. Just held onto that James. Yeah. Oh and Vial goes down. Yeah and I can tell you what that was caused. He wasn't sure if Michael was going to get back on the track so Tom was out of sorts because he was looking at Michael. Lost the front end and that was a bummer.
03:17What I was going to say with Tom was these opening laps haven't been his strongest point of the year so we won't be able to find that out until second moto but man that's a bummer for actually both these guys because they lose Tom
03:28and the Hayden Deegan but especially Tom. Oh yeah and early in the race Vial's going to go way back now. I think he's in 11th place.
03:35Harrop up to third now ahead of Kitchen. Yeah Harrop he's been around really good so we'll see. Will.
03:43So look at Michael Mosmer in the great position that he's in right now. He was talking to me early and telling me honestly this is sort of the first time that he's felt really good.
03:51Apparently he had a stomach virus off the back of Thunder Valley there that took him out he said for two whole weeks. He said he was so depleted he was drinking chicken noodle soup twice a day for like a week and he said he got to the high point round and just had absolutely nothing.
04:06James you know how tough these tracks are. These outdoor trucks and how much it takes out of you so if you don't have any energy in the first place you're basically done.
04:13As we said now I'm healthy I was able to put in some good days on the bike and hopefully it's going to show today and it is a moto one guys.
04:20Yeah no that's that's tough and I've been in a position as all these riders have when you go up to the second moto.
04:26Sometimes I'm sitting there in between motos I'm like I don't I don't know how I'm even going to finish this race let alone you know go out there and compete.
04:33So it just shows you how much determination Michael has and I'm sure a lot of that comes from just his you know excitement to be back and you know his perspective on life.
04:41You know this guy broke his neck people like he he was out wasn't sure if he's ever going to race again so him being back out here he's looking at this you know being out here just a good thing compared to where he was as Levi kitchen makes his pass across McHale for third place.
04:56Um I'm happy for Michael.
05:00It is a great story in return but I want to ask you this okay he's sick we hear fighters talk about illness all the time.
05:06Chet Lawrence mentioned on the podium Cooper Webb said he's been under the weather for all five rounds now.
05:12What is it about the lifestyle the training travel whatever it is because we hear this all the time in this sport.
05:17Yeah I mean what it really comes down to it's like you know for an average day you know fan out there is the days that you don't feel good you go to work you call in a sick day.
05:25Well here a sick day you feel like you're letting your whole team down you know not only your team your sponsors everybody out here so you just continue you know going and going and then this year we've been in altitude we've been in 100 degree weather there's been a lot of things that these guys are still going out there competing so if you're not whether you're sick or not it was going to be hard to get through these first four races and being sick only makes it difficult.
05:48So I just think it's the lifestyle as you just mentioned Jason they're training during the week all the riding it's just a toll on these guys whether they're sick or not and being sick puts you behind the eight ball off the beginning.
05:59Do you think even in your experience are you more susceptible because you're training yourself so much to catch something.
06:05Yeah absolutely it's I mean it's kind of the same concept where you know your kid comes home with a sickness from school you know you eventually somebody in the household is going to catch it.
06:14So for with these guys and it's a different way once that body gets depleted you're going out here still running through the same you know physical conditions because the track doesn't care.
06:24Southwick doesn't care if you're sick or not.
06:26Yeah.
06:26And I know these other riders don't care they're pushing your body and eventually something has to give and it's usually your immune system and these guys have to deal with it.
06:33Deegan starting to get away he's got an eight second lead that's him in the bottom box you mentioned that kitchen made the move on Harrop for a third going to try to run Moseman down but has about three seconds to make up.
06:47JT what do you think with the leader there.
06:48Well I think he's pretty spectacular here and let's flash back to a year ago here there were a lot of questions about whether he could come into a race like Southwick a full sand track and get the job done and he really fed off of that he really leaned into it and used it as motivation and he's been really vocal about hey you guys all doubted me I proved you wrong and let's think about what he's doing here.
07:11This is a racetrack where we weren't sure if sand was really his thing not always is he out to win he's already got almost a 10 second lead and we're not even 10 minutes into this race so it's not that he's winning he's been winning all year it's the way he's going about the winning and we're you know we're coming up and halfway through the season I just see him grabbing another gear and he's finding the maturity that I think he really needed before he takes that step to a 450.
07:35JT it's talent it's maturity but it's also a lot of hard work from him and the whole team there because they didn't just rest on the achievements that they made those gains that they made in the sand last year they were in North Carolina this past week going back to work they pulled out the notebook and went over everything that they told hey to make sure in these terms you do that body position wise handling all this potential mistakes that we're seeing out here on the track so they didn't stop there it was a reminder
08:05and then this whole week was a reminder of what to do so he could go out on a day like today and execute.
08:10Yeah and that's a good point and having a team like Star Race and Yamaha keeping them focused because you know I almost would put money on that Hayden was sitting on the gate after watching Jet Lawrence win and just the motivation and the sound bike we have from him in the beginning part him knowing and where his ultimate goal is to eventually get to that 450 class in the race against Jet Lawrence.
08:31I bet he was sitting on the gate saying you know what if you can do that I'm going to do it better and it's easy for a young kid to start over riding the motorcycle and doing things out of characteristic and how you got here and that's why I do believe a team like Star Racing who has the championships and the pedigree to be like hey hey we know you want to go out there and do this but we got to still go through the motions we got to practice we have to ride the sand tracks because we know you can win but if you don't execute and do the things that got you here you will get beat
09:01being in a position so it's a deadly combination to deal with and you're
09:05watching something spectacular just like we were watching with Jet Lawrence his
09:09kids got it all for sure and the bottom box below Deegan there Vial in orange
09:13has made his way back up he's got Nate Thrasher right ahead of him in eight he
09:18is nine and then Ty Masterpool is tenth shout out to Parker Ross running well on
09:24the Varex Toyota of Redlands Yamaha they only get a limited amount of help from
09:27Yamaha riding well in 11th and Vial starting to close on Thrasher then
09:35Boland is up ahead seventh you know and sometimes with a position like you know
09:39Tom Vial like don't don't mistake and we talked about Hayden Deegan but Tom Vial
09:43it's looked pretty aggressive all day today and he's obviously gotten up and
09:47he's motivated to move forward which he might be able to make his way but
09:51sometimes when you go down it might be a better space to be as he makes the pass
09:55right here it might be a better space because for him he wants to get better
10:00and get the opening laps and the last thing he wants to see is him be in second
10:03place and watch Hayden Deegan pull away from him so it might be in a sense that he
10:07goes down and now he's making his way up getting better and finding that flow and
10:12since he went down he doesn't have to worry about Hayden Deegan he can just get
10:15that confidence instead of maybe watching Hayden Deegan
10:17right away from JT okay no doubt about it he's riding really well here the one
10:23thing I want to see from these guys whether it's Tom Vial whether it's Levi
10:26Kitchen because I want to see them be able to overcome the adversity that we've
10:30seen Deegan be able to do of course in 2024 now for Vial this is the perfect
10:35opportunity you go down a small crash but you have the pace how can you get back to
10:40a podium position which is where you belong on this racetrack because that's what
10:45Hayden Deegan would be doing out front that's when I want to see them be able
10:48to turn the corner and be that guy that can fight for a championship because on
10:51your bad days you still need to be near the podium that's how championships get
10:55done certainly going to be a test for Vial to get back to that podium type spot
11:00after that early crash of Boland in his sights and this is it Kitchen has closed the
11:06gap on Mozeman for the number two spot yeah Levi's been rotten good the last few
11:11weekends and so is Michael so you know you're about 10 minutes in this race and
11:15it's gonna be a long motor for these guys and and that that back and forth
11:19that you're gonna see that cat and mouse it's gonna be a lot of that today and
11:22like I mentioned earlier it really just comes down to in somebody's one line
11:25section is that these guys got it back off and get these the guy in front of
11:29room otherwise you're just gonna run into vision issues and then again all the
11:33saying and all that so Levi will close in on them and then Michael stretch it out but
11:38it's still good rod by both these guys they've been running really good this
11:41might be an opportunity for Levi to try to get Brown Michael if he can close the
11:44gap
11:48it's gonna be good let's see how this outside yes that outside just not formed up
11:55yet she goes back to work
12:02not fun to hear the bikes labor through the sand
12:15and they're gonna wind it back out past the mechanics area
12:19the motivation for most of it keep going yeah I feel like with this racetrack you
12:27know there's only certain parts where you're like you're white knuckling in
12:31here where you're like I'm scared and that's one of the sections when you go
12:34past that mechanics area it's a high speed really the bikes moving around it's
12:38sliding and it's like man I'm just happy to get through it the rest of this
12:41racetrack really just comes down to mental and physical like these rollers going up
12:46this hill it is so much energy to continue doing that over two 30-minute
12:50motos so again it's two different challenges there's not too many scary
12:54parts of this racetrack but there's a lot of physical parts that eventually just
12:58wears you down and the reason is because all the corners have bumps in them and so
13:02it makes it difficult for all these riders
13:05most men has not had a moto podium James since 2022 and that was at hangtown very
13:11early in that season for so over three years has not had an overall podium since 2021 we've
13:17talked about his comeback quite a bit broke his neck multiple concussions thought his
13:21career was over found the right people that said you know what you're not at any more
13:25risk than you were before with the neck so he decided to go back out there he just wanted a shot
13:30at it to do it differently and see how it would turn out it's been very good but is it good
13:34enough to hold off kitchen oh the next line by Levi the reason I like that line because it opens up this
13:40next corner and now he's going to funnel Michael goes outside Levi be back on the
13:45inside so side is this it's another spot maybe Levi if he can get this corner right he should
13:51be next to Michael Michael squares him up but oh you can see the address he was evil
13:56Knievel style lunch in that single try to stay close but it wasn't enough yeah he just knows
14:02there's only a few opportunities he can try to do this slingshot move around but he knows his
14:06outside berm isn't you know built yet as he tries to come back in so he's got to go back to work again
14:12so in previous years that would have been enough for a berm there to make that move well I mean as
14:17the day goes on that outside will come up it's just earlier in the day that it hasn't you know
14:21progressed yet so yeah the lines that they're running right now it'll change and they'll start
14:26getting some of these outside lines where the lighter part of the track where they're not going
14:30that'll get darker as the day goes on but for sure Levi just remembered last last lap it wasn't there
14:36yet so and still not able to make it work her up still running fourth great ride for him and now
14:42his triumph teammate Swole is up to fifth so two triumphs in the top five you see Bozeman hit that
14:48hole at the bottom of that jump yeah eventually these they're getting these big old holes and how
14:53they're jumping into like what Michael just did right there they'll be able to do that oh kitchen
14:58now let's see Levi's gonna try to square him up and get back down the inside of him here
15:04still not enough
15:08no but this is another spot right here Levi can maybe get this corner good
15:14as he does it no it was all out of sorts you mentioned energy going up that hill
15:19but your kitchen used a whole bunch right there yeah he used a lot I mean now he probably sit back
15:26and you see that now he's trying to rest he's sitting on his seat and that's all that energy
15:30that he was using especially on these 250 bikes you know he buries it in his corners he's got to try
15:34to stay with Michael so man this track will wear you out so you'll literally see him hammer a section
15:39and then you see a little bit of resting yeah absolutely when you see a guy especially on these
15:44sand tracks if you just pay attention when you see a guy get close to him that means they're going
15:48after the pass it's not like they're getting close to him just to wait for him a few corners down the
15:52road no they're trying to make that pass instantly otherwise they're going to drop back because that
15:56roots it wears you out and again with Levi he just knows there's certain parts of this racetrack
16:02that I got to be close to him to be able to make a pass and now he'll probably go down the same lines
16:06that Michael does and then just funnel back in until he gets a lot closer to him
16:10and get a little strength back in the legs for another attack got Haram swole march bank six
16:17VL seventh he's got around Boland this track is getting rough most men just able to hang on in
16:24the entrance to the corner almost throws it down yeah that's because he was losing the front end
16:28like you said but now he knew that Burma eventually catch him so you know just got to keep that up
16:33just slid into it oh he just slid in I mean he didn't have no choice so it wasn't like
16:36he the bike said I'm this is what's going to happen either you accept it you don't so
16:41this is great stuff looking at these two on the edge as this track starting to show some teeth
16:48450 moto two going to be able to even worse than this yeah I mean and the 250 moto is going to be
16:55even worse than this yeah that's the hard part every lap you come by you just like man we're only in
17:00the first moto like I got to deal with this so that's why I say you got to survive the day out
17:04here now it's the key to the moto definitely is right now this is Joe Shimoda this is just to get
17:10into the points he's 20th right or second in the standings getting around battling with
17:16Julian Bomair 24th early in this one not sure what happened to Joe maybe a problem at the start
17:24oh it was first turn crash a lot of work to do JT well Joe Shimoda is certainly coming from the back
17:30but he was caught up in a pileup with the likes of rider de Francisco and a few others like we saw
17:34in that first moto this first corner they come in there with a lot of speed but it gets really deep
17:39really fast and everybody has those hole shot devices still compressed it's a really tricky first
17:44corner here that wouldn't really seem that way on the surface we've already seen two crashes through
17:48two starts and then apparently Shimoda went down again after the first turn crash that's another
17:53reason why he's this far back 19th 18th now and got a long way to go he's also got the jersey or is
18:07that a tear-off dangling in the side yeah it looks like the jersey so that means he might have got ran
18:12over at that point Will okay so we'll go back to Bomair these are great riders who are battling just
18:18inside the top 20 and there's still half the race left reminder that Monster Energy is available now
18:25as we get halfway through this moto let's send it back down to Will
18:28and what a shame that Julian Bomair got caught up the way JT was saying at the beginning there because
18:33he was looking really good in qualifying seventh in the first I believe third in the second qualifying
18:39session and that was what surprised him that's what surprised the whole team they basically took him
18:45to ride in the sand this week Carlos Rivera the crew chief said we know we're going to have to put him in the sand
18:50he's from Lake Havasu he's from California he's used to a hard face let's see how he goes
18:55and both Juju and Carlos when he showed when they showed up they went oh no they shook their heads
19:00they said what are we going to do and I said he's had no experience in the sand and Carlos said put it like this
19:05the most experience that Juju's had in the sand was probably in his little turtle sand pit when he
19:10was a kid unbelievably he managed to get through the week lots of improvement was made and when I
19:16asked Juju about those good qualifying times he said look I'm a racer I can make it happen on race day
19:21so not much experience apparently but he was doing well
19:24and yeah I believe I believe he got knocked out at this race last year so didn't really get any laps in
19:31a year ago so that adds to the lack of sad experience
19:34Deegan has the experience right now the one you want out front
19:38yeah but I mean to to Carlos point I mean this is one of the racetracks that you do have to
19:43understand that it's not like your typical sand track I mean it's like a sand hard pack
19:47racetrack and all the experience that Juju had last year he got knocked out so he don't remember
19:52what happened anyway so but when you go back to a couple years ago as JT was mentioned Hayden
19:56struggled it was one of his only races that he struggled you know without going down you know
20:01and I think it was a couple six or something like that but then he comes back last year
20:05you know and wins and then this year dominating so Juju will eventually figure this racetrack out it
20:10just takes time and you know hard part is you got to number one he ain't wasting time for anybody
20:17so yeah 18 DNF where the scores for Bo Mary a year ago so if you're wondering why he doesn't have
20:23much experience in sand didn't learn much at Southwick last year Deegan's lead is 17 seconds
20:30most of it though been able to shed off that pressure from kitchen be a great ride for him and it would
20:37be a one-two from Oxford Yamaha star racing if they can hold on great view overhead yeah Levi's probably
20:44like I'm gonna have to drop back and attack him but you know I will say this you don't really know
20:50how to route this racetrack and learn how to route it until you're out front like we saw Jett Lawrence and
20:55and Hayden Deegan where you're able to really you know pick the lines and really get a feel of how the
21:00bike is because otherwise you're following somebody you're getting bruised you got your head down and
21:05that's not how this racetrack is so I do feel like once you're out front and you really get a sense of
21:11um the way this track is and you don't have to worry about somebody right on the back you learn how
21:15to ride Southwick and um to me doing this Hayden Deegan jumping out that far that's part of learning how
21:22to ride Southwick the farther you jump out actually the smoother it is you wouldn't know that if you're
21:26getting battling somebody because you're getting roosted the whole time a couple battles right here
21:31Marchbanks and Vial sixth and seventh Marchbanks kind of quietly closing up to third I believe in the
21:37championship and they're small right ahead of them it's going to be a good showdown last 10 minutes
21:44and two laps yeah when we go back two weeks ago Jaleek came back off an injury so man I was impressed
21:50with him at high point I'm just equally as pressed um today and it just makes you wonder if you'd have been
21:55in this championship from the beginning and had all the season arrived how much better would he be
22:00so good showing by the triumph uh team being you know fourth and fifth out here but really shout
22:06out to Jaleek Suarez looks like uh Tom Vial is going to get up on the inside of Marchbanks
22:11whoo he's trying so hard these last couple of corners and sections and it pays off 16 makes the pass on
22:18Marchbanks yeah I don't know if it's just the racetrack and Tom just feels more comfortable here but
22:22whatever it is there there is a change on his riding style and I know again he'll be bummed at the results
22:27especially being a lot higher and going down that first lap with Michael Mosin but he looks better
22:32and he looks more aggressive and this is a Tom Vial that we kind of expected to see at the beginning
22:36part of the season so whatever they did they obviously figured something out over the weekend
22:40off so it's good to see JT I agree with you I was thinking the same thing when you said that
22:45and the way I was kind of thinking about it he looks like he's attacking the racetrack right now
22:49where the first few rounds he looked very complacent he was kind of having to take what the track gave
22:54him and now he just looks so much more aggressive in his tact and the way he's going about things
22:59so I agree with you I don't know if it was testing in the off week or whatever it is but this is a
23:03different looking Tom Vial
23:06not going to show in the results or maybe it will because he's not done now has swollen his sights
23:11and then Harrop is about four seconds up the road Vial is absolutely throwing down now yeah and
23:17you see what Tom did now as I mentioned earlier like when guys get close to him he's not going to get
23:21closer just to follow he feels like he has an opportunity to pass him now him and Jalik are in
23:26the same line so Tom would probably back it off unless he feels like he can get by him at the finish
23:31line our body mechanics here but yeah I'm with you JT he just looks like he's a lot more aggressive
23:37being loose making some mistakes the bikes flipping around and that's not how Tom has been riding so
23:42far this year so definitely a good science on that Red Bull KTM to see that
23:49oh nice line by Jalik right there trying to keep it smooth now well you mentioned that injury came
23:54back from an Achilles swole at the last race at high point then hit him hole the back section of the
24:00track of the first moto felt some pain in that ankle foot he was worried for a second but then realized
24:05that's probably the scar tissue some scar tissue built up there for Vial hard landing but makes
24:12the pass yeah no that actually wasn't a hard landing because he landed it that way yeah it was smoother
24:17and clearly he was able to get it but that's what we've seen whoa hey you'd laugh right you better watch
24:21out Tom coming through I'll knock anybody down so Captain Tom's out here getting it done
24:27I don't know if I've ever seen Vial this aggressive no and you can tell he's feeling but here's Levi
24:32he caught back up to Michael again let's see if he can open up the kitchen for business
24:38does he have another attack in him a little bit quicker last time around the kitchen over
24:43Mozart for second place yeah Levi was about two seconds faster than Michael and you're not sure
24:49if that was because of lap riders but as I said I thought Levi was going to sit back and just go after
24:54Michael and then try to attack him because once you're about 20 seconds behind first place your whole goal
24:59is just to get second at this point so you know you got the whole motor to do it and maybe if you
25:04let Michael go he starts relaxing and then you can attack him because he might think you had him broken
25:08we'll find out here
25:13that line by kitchen all the way down to the bottom of that corner where there weren't any tire tracks at
25:18all it sure looks slippery but trying to save energy at this point no that's actually how software breaks
25:23down if you you know we saw Jalik do that right before the mechanics there right those um those
25:28inside lines and it's hard to get there because it is so slippery but as this track goes it's normally
25:33slower but as the track breaks down the outside is going to get slower and slower and get rougher
25:38more rough because of those conditions so that inside it actually you're saving energy but it is
25:42probably the faster way around the racetrack okay well watch those insides could pay off for
25:47kitchen rider out of washington mozman the northern california native
25:57it's fun to hear the bikes through here
26:09oh it's wide open through that section here's the big jump
26:12yeah you see the difference where michael came up about a couple feet shorter and how much
26:19harder it was for him and levi jumped out there so let's see if levi tried to switch him up oh yeah
26:24he wanted to get to the inside but i believe michael's mistake caused him to slow it down and he
26:29wasn't really sure but great rod by him and right back where they were about three laps ago
26:35kitchen with the attack all right now levi he's got to get this bike on the inside michael's going
26:45to keep pushing to the outside so if you can get on the inside of him he's trying yeah it's going to
26:50be hard for michael to get back to the inside all levi could have been more aggressive but
26:54at this point levi knows i feel like i got him but at the same time michael's still fighting
26:59oh just throwing everything out of the kitchen like they say he's throwing everything in the
27:10kitchen sink everything but the kitchen sink oh lap traffic still not enough to hold up bozeman
27:18survives another attack no kitchen of the inside lost traction yeah now i would tell you from that
27:23point levi wasn't actually trying to pass michael he had to gas it because he knew the only way he
27:28can make this turn is by sliding the rear because he didn't want to just follow michael he would have
27:31got roosted so i think that was more of a cost of vision than anything and you can see how much
27:36time he lost because of that he just wanted to turn it into oversteer instead of understeer to push off
27:41the track well sometimes if you get so close to somebody you can actually miss the roost and i
27:46just think levi was trying to stay out of that um so we'll find out but i don't think that was him
27:51trying to actually pass michael that corner was way too tight as tom vial is working on jaleek swole for
27:56fourth place now or no that's my heart it's already past wall man what a moto for vial
28:03right near the section where he crashed earlier
28:08and at the top of your kitchen still going for it bottom boxes vial
28:14and uh harrop they're putting a lot broader behind them
28:19yeah very impressive route by tom vial to get out um and pick that bike up because how the season's been
28:24going he could have easily been like man another race but this is a lot more fight
28:29than we've seen all year long so good ride by him
28:35you know we talked so much about the supercross championship hangover we talked about it with
28:39cooper webb a lot in the 450 class vial did win a title in the most dramatic
28:44circumstances you can with hampshire and hamacre and then he rolls by
28:48you think there was any of that residual because we haven't seen that vial we expected the first
28:53couple weeks outdoors no i i don't i don't personally think it was that i mean i think the way that
28:58supercross if anything he might have been more shocked on how it happened and and so eventually the
29:04supercross hangover if he did have it it would have went away and we would have saw some rods like this
29:08like you mentioned earlier you don't know if you've ever seen him ride this aggressive especially like
29:12this year so yeah yeah i don't think the supercross it wasn't like he had a big points lead and he was
29:17more stressed on trying to um you know uh win that thing i think he knew he had to step up and ride
29:23and and get focused because i don't even know if he was the best guy in that championship at that
29:27moment until he was able to get it done so no supercross hang up here here i think he's just
29:32figured out whatever as he makes the pass she's going for it just putting that rear wheel into the
29:37ground and making the pass on harrop for fourth harrop coming back yeah he's coming back that tom
29:44saw he was spinning up that bike and um michael was going to get him back so he had to cut him off so
29:50i love it but still a great ride um by michael harrop here top five and he said he was feeling good
29:57about this saying so yeah he's putting up right now still that fifth and six for he and small a good run
30:03for the triumph team march banks master pole seventh and eighth half acre ninth bull and tenth jt
30:09well guys i said i wanted to see some fight out of tom vial i wanted to see him come back and show
30:15us some heart show us the guy that wants to be in the fight for this championship the guy that won
30:19his first ever race at this racetrack and i think we've gotten it now on the score sheet is going to
30:23show a fourth in a moto but i think we can all agree that this effort was much more than that and if
30:28tom vial wants to find any success in the rest of 2025 this is a great way to kick things off
30:34well to that end jt i want to ask you we were talking about jorge prado with the good qualifying
30:37in the morning obviously feeling good at this track but you said that could unlock something
30:42for all the tracks can the same thing apply to the 16th yeah absolutely absolutely and and again when
30:47you come into a championship you know when with tom vial especially with you know i don't think he
30:52thought hey deagle was going to run away from me he felt like he was going to be able to try to get
30:56some wins in here when things don't go right it's frustrating and when you go back to supercross maybe not
31:01going the way you want even though you won the championship you know you can ride better so to
31:05me i do feel like this will unlock um some things for tom to build or at least get up there and battle
31:11with hayden deegan so we'll find out the same thing with jorge and all roads lead to the super motocross
31:18playoffs where vial and deegan have been strong in the past starts september 6th charlotte north
31:23carolina then september 13th st louis missouri at the dome and then the smx world championship final
31:29for the second year in a row in las vegas that's where the champions are crowned tickets and information
31:35go to super motocross dot com
31:42is there any time left vial is a massive gap to make up if he were to get to that kitchen
31:49and mosman battle this might be as far as he can go fourth place
31:54for the frenchman of the red bull ktm yeah you see him take a little look up there i think he's too
31:59far behind levi unless levi goes into um you know shutdown mode but i mean i got to give credit to
32:06michael mosman i feel like he might have broken levi and levi probably thought he had him once he
32:11attacked him once michael held on to that um just a lot of respect for him then the guy starts thinking
32:17about the next moto so good shout out by them all three of these guys yeah i love it man that's why you
32:23fight so hard he could have relented to kitchen jeez two three times never let him by
32:28deegan's lead is 23 seconds almost right on cue we talked about gent lawrence with his most dominant
32:36ride of the year in the first 450 moto now deegan doing similar things as his mechanic brett duffy
32:42got the smile because this is exactly what they want to see with the big gap yeah i guarantee if you
32:48asked him honestly like hey how difficult was that race you'd be like well that's probably the easiest
32:52race i had all year you know because you you get the point to where you you actually start you're
32:58able to rest because this track if you do find a flow it becomes i wouldn't say easy because southwick
33:04is a hard race track but just like that line right there how he's able to go to the inside well he
33:08doesn't have anybody near him so he's able to do that so he can take his time and miss all the bumps
33:14and i bet if you just watch hayden uh ride he's going to be pulling away from these guys doing it
33:18on the smoothest um smoothest line around this racetrack and the reason he's able to do that because
33:22he's so far up front so really easy race for him and all that damage was done the first three laps
33:29and deegan the real story for him was how large the points lead was early in the year because a lot
33:34of the contenders have had their problems while he's winning you got chas heinus the only rider to beat him
33:38this year out now with the torn acl kitchen had a dnf and a moto vl had a bad moto and then shibota
33:45who's second in points coming into this one first turn crash he's in 12th trying to track thrasher down
33:53might come down to the last lap to get to 11th place and that is that batter you're looking at the
33:57bottom that's shibota you see the red fenders on the honda with the yamaha of thrasher right ahead
34:04of him but only for 11th place shibota's got speed but showing the results yeah it seems like we said
34:11a lot of that for a lot of these guys they got speed but the results aren't showing and especially
34:15here at southwick it makes it really hard to to get around when you come into back uh you get a bad
34:20start but yeah i i mean i think with hayden we go back a couple weekends ago at thunder valley i mean
34:26he almost had a dnf that first moto so when you look at the championship there's a long way to go
34:31but he feels we see if he's riding and no mechanicals and he doesn't go down it's gonna
34:37be hard for anybody to beat him and that's any rider that's exactly where you want to be at
34:42that's all you can hope for it's just a chance if i put my best foot forward and you do you're gonna
34:46lose and i think hey deacon feels like that shibota made the move on thrasher and is now caught
34:52bowling he might be able to get to 10th place from down in turn one now here's the strange thing about
34:57shibota he's won the second moto here at southwick the last two years but at a sixth and a first
35:04moto and a ninth in a first moto and now it's running 11th in a first moto so the problems early
35:10at southwick have killed his chances for an overall and a track where he is very fast but look at this
35:16oh almost had the move on bowling yeah that was a good line by joe but again those smoother lines
35:21uh like i was saying they'll eventually pay us joe jumps in that soft part but in his stats he's right
35:27on point he's on this is average joe right right here first moto who kind of gives it back but you
35:33know again joe's been running really good all year long and anyone outside of hayden deacon it just
35:37seems like if you don't get that start this bill is too close everybody's too close to um really
35:42separated and there it is he's made the pass on bowling so he's up to 10th maybe a 10 one day in
35:49order for shibota after a six one and a nine one here the last two years yeah i mean he ran at 216 on that
35:57last lap i mean the only one that was close to that was tommy out with a 216 as well but joe
36:03shimota just ran his fastest lap of the race that last lap and we saw him trying to get around make
36:07those paths so clearly he has the speed um he just kind of can't go down well james we started
36:14this moto symbolically talking about deacon versus jet lawrence is this on a collision course
36:20ironically or coincidentally if he wins this moto which it looks like he will he's going to tie
36:24lawrence for career moto wins in his class this is vial i think we might have lost wait a minute
36:31where is mozeman we are now seeing kitchen second and vial third and a bad lap time for mozeman at 223
36:41yeah i just saw him pop up so he must have went down oh the last lap oh bummer
36:49well jt says he saw the move made by vial so i'm not sure if he crashed or if he just lost the pace
36:55but either way it's going to cost him a moto podium mozeman will yield to both kitchen and vial
37:01no yielding here another checkered flag another moto win for hayden deacon
37:11what a journey to the podium for tom vial kitchen trying to spot him for a second there he is on the 47.
37:22yeah good rob i leave i'm not sure what happened to michael it seems like that lap time was too
37:26close to be able to go down unless he just maybe tipped it or stalled it he ran off the racetrack but
37:30keep fighting to the end and he's good and that that might uh sit well to go down like he did to
37:37come back up and end up with third place just never know what happens in second moto yep they could be
37:42in position for the overall if there's a problem for this young man haven't been many lately
