00:00Talk to me about Kalen DeBoer after that week one performance against Florida State with all the
00:03expectations. Taking on ULM today, but what are his expectations? And coach, what would your
00:08advice be to a head coach saying, hey man, we got to pull this one out? Well, you got to block out
00:13the noise. You got to block out the fans. You got to block out the negatives and keep your focus
00:19with your players and your coaches because it is tough right now. I've been in Tuscaloosa. I've
00:24coached in there. I've coached against them. That's the toughest place. Expectations are the
00:29highest. No matter what he does today, it's not going to answer that. It's not going to make him
00:33happy, but he does. He's go out there and make sure he does well against this game and Wisconsin at home
00:39before he gets to Georgia on the road. One, he's got to play fanatical defense. They're a smart fans.
00:45They know tough football. He's got to play fanatical defense. He's got to run the ball with power.
00:51Those are the two things everybody in Alabama is looking for. He's got to do that well in this game
00:57and even the next game because when he gets to Georgia, that's a different ball game. Everybody
01:01has doubts right now whether that's the kind of football he's going to play like Nick Saban did.
01:06Coach, we see a number of different look-ahead spots today. Florida plays USF. LSU plays La Tech.
01:15There's a number of big games within the SEC, Georgia, and Tennessee next week. From the coaching
01:20perspective, you know, when you look at the Florida-USF game, what can Florida do to not
01:26look ahead to LSU, especially when you have an in-state rival in the Bulls coming to town?
01:33Yeah, well, first of all, I think the Bulls caught their attention by destroying Boise State last week.
01:38So, a game that could have been overlooked, LSU coming up on the schedule, I think they'll be focused.
01:45I still see Florida being on a roll. You know, I was down in Gainesville last week
01:48talking to a lot of their people. This quarterback was, what, 6-1 ending the season last year?
01:53They are on a roll. They've got great confidence. They do have a good defense.
01:58They're a better football team, and I do think to some extent Boise State just threw that game away,
02:04made so many mistakes, it got out of hand. But I think South Florida is a great test for Florida.
02:11But if they'll stay focused and play their football and let legway be legway at quarterback,
02:16they'll win this game by a couple of touchdowns.
02:19Coach, we take a look, and we had you on yesterday on the early line right here on the Sports Grid Network.
02:22I thought you were fantastic with your answer. Like, Arch Manning, one of the guys that we expect
02:26to have greatness this year and greatness in his career, didn't look great in a tough spot last week.
02:30You as a head coach, how do you put him in a different environment this week?
02:33And we talked about, like, maybe loving him up a little bit there as opposed to coaching him hard
02:37or what that balance would be. What's the expectations for Arch Manning today?
02:41Well, I think everybody wants him to do better, but the head coach is thinking even more than that.
02:45He needs to go out there and call plays that have great potential, explosive plays.
02:50Even Sarkeesian said after the game against Ohio State, no explosive plays.
02:55In my mind, get the confidence of Arch Manning back. Let him throw four or five touchdown passes,
03:00350 yards, give it to him. And a coordinator play caller can do that.
03:05He can put plays in that give him a chance for great success.
03:08Now, to go along with Joe, I think Clubnick has the same type of coordinator.
03:12He needs the same type of confidence builder at Clemson.
03:15But I think at Texas, the most important thing right now is to get that confidence,
03:19and Arch will get it back. He's got great family.
03:22He's got great comfort in what he hears on that telephone at night.
03:26I think he'll come back, give him a chance to have great success, give him great numbers.
03:31And again, they've lost one game to the number one team in the country by seven points.
03:35It's no time to jump ship or lose confidence.
03:37So let's get started.
03:38So, let's get started.
03:46Let's get started.
