00:00Let's get right down to the business here.
00:02Georgia and Alabama are going to play.
00:04Before I let you answer, let's hear from Kirby Smart right now
00:07about being conservative in the playoffs.
00:10Kirby, given that injury risk that goes along with the SEC championship,
00:14what's better for your titties to be farther next week
00:17or to go straight into the sea?
00:19If you worry about injury risk, we won't practice next week.
00:23So, like, you live your life scared of injuries, you know what you get?
00:26A very scared team.
00:30And I don't, you know, I mean, yeah,
00:32there's also an opportunity to win an SEC championship.
00:34Does that matter?
00:35Does anybody care about that anymore?
00:37I mean, I grew up thinking that was the greatest game in the world.
00:40And I just differed from everybody else.
00:43Yeah, we lost guys today to injury.
00:45We're going to lose guys in practice to injury.
00:47But that's next man up.
00:49Like, that's what's wrong with this whole thing now.
00:52It's like, well, what if you get hurt?
00:53What if you do this?
00:54What if you do that?
00:55I mean, it's football.
00:56It's all part of it.
00:57Coach, taking it easy in the SEC championship game.
01:02What?
01:02Come on now.
01:05College football will never be quite like the NFL because of conference championships.
01:10Now, Kirby Smart has not been successful against Alabama.
01:130-2 against Kalen DeBoard.
01:15This is huge to him.
01:16This is personal to him.
01:18And it is very big.
01:19He played at Georgia when I was a head coach at Auburn.
01:21He was in the defensive backfield playing against me.
01:23It means a lot.
01:25It's a huge game.
01:26And it will always be big, especially in the South, that conference championship.
01:32Coach, how much do you look at that game, that first game between those two teams?
01:38Is there anything to take?
01:39It feels like it was a million miles, you know, years ago here.
01:43It felt like Georgia got better as the game went on.
01:46So, and what kind of adjustments do the coaches make here, if any?
01:51Well, Georgia has had a problem all year, and especially against Alabama, falling behind
01:57in the first half and then spending the entire game catching up.
02:00Georgia has got to stay even.
02:02I don't care if they're losing by seven and a half, but stay even, keep pounding the football,
02:06play good defense, because I think they'll overwhelm Alabama in the second half.
02:10That's been their MO the whole year.
02:12They've just got to make sure they don't fall behind, because Alabama is very talented.
02:17Their quarterback is a winner.
02:18They've got some big players, people on offense.
02:22And so, Georgia, if they'll just stay close, I think they win it like they've done all year.
02:26And let me say this.
02:28When you play twice in one year in college football and you lose the first time, you've
02:32got a good chance of winning the second time.
02:33It always happens.
02:35I'm going to go back to Florida State.
02:36My dad, in 96, played Florida during the regular season, beat them 24-21.
02:41They met up again in the national championship.
02:43He lost 52-20 in the championship.
02:48Georgia will find a way to win this game.
02:50Coach, let me ask you a question on this, too.
02:52We understand if Alabama wins, of course they're in.
02:54Alabama loses.
02:56Is there a chance that they could be left out of the college football playoff?
03:00I think there's going to be some serious questions that have to be answered.
03:03Let's go a little bit further.
03:04What if Duke wins, and now you've got to find a way to fit somebody in, another G5 team, possibly?
03:11Now, if you have no ACC teams, they've got to find a way to get Miami in.
03:15They've got to find a way to get an ACC team where it blows up this whole thing, because
03:20that's a lot of investment by the ACC in that they get a team in there.
03:25So there's a lot to happen.
03:27But I do think if Alabama loses, there is a question, not that they don't deserve to
03:31be in, because you shouldn't play a conference championship and fall out.
03:35But that committee has got to look at how they treat the ACC if Duke blows it up a little
03:39bit.
