00:00But there's also an SEC head-to-head that deserves our attention
00:05between Kentucky and Alabama.
00:08The Kentucky Wildcats have some real offseason buzz
00:12due to the hire of former Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein.
00:17I got to say, I actually, let me start here with this, Dave,
00:19because this is something that you can really, really speak to
00:22with your knowledge around the Florida Gators program,
00:25your knowledge of this conference.
00:26If I were a Gator fan, I would much rather have hired Will Stein.
00:32Or if I were an Arkansas fan or an Auburn fan,
00:36I feel as if some of these schools are really overthinking
00:42the head coaching search market.
00:45And instead of attacking the top, top coordinators at the top, top programs
00:51are a little too focused on head coach experience and success
00:55at the G5 level.
00:57I am sure there are people watching this going,
00:59Kurt Zignetti!
01:01I get it, guys.
01:02I do get it.
01:03Dan Lanning, Sark, Marcus Freeman.
01:06There are a lot of guys, you know, there are a lot of guys, Ryan Day,
01:10that sit in, you know, my camp of this.
01:14How, when you were following the coaching searches and everything,
01:17like, how do you feel about the idea that I think Will Stein
01:19would have been more of a slam dunk hire, say, for your Gators?
01:23I said the entire coaching hire.
01:26Well, first of all, I thought we were all getting Lane Kiffin.
01:27But for the entire hire, I wanted big-time assistant at big-time programs.
01:34I wanted the Kirby Smart.
01:36I wanted the Dan Lanning.
01:37I made no bones about it.
01:38I was done with Sunbelt Billies of the World
01:41and the Macs of McIlwains of the World.
01:45Yes, Urban Meyer worked, but Urban Meyer came from the Mountain West,
01:49which was a growing conference at the time, I was all over the big guys.
01:53I wanted, if I wasn't going to get Lane, Will Stein was on my list.
01:57I wanted the next big Kirby Smart.
01:59That said, all the credit to John Summerall and company.
02:02I think he's doing a wonderful job, and I'm in on him now.
02:05But I do agree with what your philosophy is.
02:08Go get a guy who's been, and Lane was in that boat too.
02:11Lane was an assistant at all these places as well,
02:14that's been at a big-time SEC program or a big –
02:17I mean, that's why they went and got McIlwain because he was a saving guy.
02:22Well, he went and coached in the Mac.
02:23Like, big deal.
02:24Sunbelt Billy.
02:25Like, we don't need that, although Sunbelt John seems to be better.
02:29I think the Will Stein hire in Lexington is a slam dunk for them.
02:34I don't think it's going to be a great season in Lexington this year.
02:38They have a really hard schedule.
02:40They're in the SEC.
02:41They brought in 40 new players.
02:43I think if I'm a Wildcat fan and I have the ability to be a little patient,
02:48which I know does not go far, in Lexington, Kentucky,
02:52that I think a year or two from now this is a team that is contending in the SEC,
02:56maybe non-Georgia, Alabama style,
02:58but maybe up there with the old mists of the world's shoes
03:02because I think he's a phenomenal coach coming from a nominal program.
03:06Not sure how today's going to pan out.
03:08We're going to get into that.
03:09But, yes, I am with you.
03:11That is the type of coach that I would have wanted.
03:13That said, nothing wrong with John Summerall.
03:15He's done a great job so far.
03:17But I was out on these group of five coaches, group of six.
03:21I just didn't want them.
03:22Yeah, I think it's likely that one of them will hit.
03:25I'm not sure if all of them, you know, are going to hit here.
03:29As a Notre Dame guy, Tenny Menchie is someone that I'm excited to watch here.
03:37You know, in this era, it probably varies person to person
03:42in whether or not you're going to root for someone who leaves the program.
03:47But I'm pretty straightforward.
03:51Like, I would love to see guys thrive at Notre Dame.
03:54But Tenny Menchie was there for three years, lost the job to C.J. Carr.
03:58Carr was coming back.
03:58That would be ridiculous to think that Tenny Menchie should still be backing up C.J. Carr.
04:03This kid has hopes and dreams of playing at the next level, Dave.
04:05Like, right?
04:06I had the D.J.
04:07D.J. Lagway last week was just a weird one for me.
04:10He's now on Baylor.
04:11And he absolutely did nothing at Florida.
04:14Do you blame Billy?
04:15Do you blame him?
04:16And it was tough last week.
04:17I was on the Baylor seven and a half.
04:19So the only thing I didn't want him to do is screw me over with a pick six on the
04:21last drive.
04:22But I get it.
04:24Like, I will root for the former Gators to do well other places.
04:30D.J. is a tough one because he let us down, let us down.
04:33But again, he didn't have much to work with on the head coaching side.
