Transcript
00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you.
00:20Dear friends, today we celebrate the memorial of the Passion of St. John the Baptist.
00:24We remember that for the sake of the truth and witnessing to it, John the Baptist gave the ultimate witness of martyrdom.
00:33And so is a model for all of us who are currently living in a time where truth is challenged or people are trying to rewrite it.
00:41We pray for the grace that you and I might be courageous witnesses to the truth, no matter what the cost.
00:47Maybe we also pray for everyone who are currently struggling, grappling with the concept of truth.
00:54And maybe there are some who are in our communities and families.
00:57We pray for them that they might encounter Him who is way, truth, and life.
01:03Also apologies for the late beginning of this live stream match today.
01:09Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins.
01:11And so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:15May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
01:38Amen.
01:39Let us pray.
01:40O God, who willed that St. John the Baptist should go ahead of your Son, both in his birth and in his death.
01:49Grant that as he died a martyr for truth and justice, we too may fight hard for the confession of what you teach.
01:58Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
02:06Amen.
02:06A reading from the prophet Jeremiah.
02:09The word of the Lord was addressed to me, saying,
02:13Brace yourself for action.
02:16Stand up and tell them all I command you.
02:19Do not be dismayed at their presence, or in their presence I will make you dismayed.
02:25I, for my part today, will make you into a fortified city,
02:30a pillar of iron, and a wall of bronze to confront all this land.
02:35The kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the country people.
02:40They will fight against you, but shall not overcome you.
02:45For I am with you to deliver you.
02:48It is the Lord who speaks.
02:50The word of the Lord.
02:53I will sing your salvation.
02:58I will sing your salvation.
03:00In you, O Lord, I take refuge.
03:02Let me never be put to shame.
03:04In your justice, rescue me, free me.
03:07Pay heed to me and save me.
03:09I will sing your salvation.
03:12Be a rock where I can take refuge, a mighty stronghold to save me.
03:16For you are my rock, my stronghold.
03:19Free me from the hand of the wicked.
03:21I will sing your salvation.
03:24It is you, O Lord, who are my hope, my trust, O Lord, since my youth.
03:29On you I have leaned from my birth, from my mother's womb.
03:32You have been my help.
03:34I will sing your salvation.
03:37My lips will tell of your justice, and day by day of your help.
03:41O God, you have taught me from my youth, and I proclaim your wonders, Jill.
03:45I will sing your salvation.
03:49Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:50Happy are they who suffer persecution for justice' sake.
03:54The kingdom of heaven is theirs.
03:57Alleluia.
03:57The Lord be with you.
04:02A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
04:05Herod had sent to have John arrested, and had him chained up in prison, because of Herodias,
04:15his brother Philip's wife, whom he had married.
04:18For John had told Herod, it is against the law for you to have your brother's wife.
04:25As for Herodias, she was furious with him, and wanted to kill him.
04:29But she was not able to, because Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a good and
04:36holy man, and gave him his protection.
04:38When he had heard him speak, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.
04:46An opportunity came on Herod's birthday, when he gave a banquet for the nobles of his court,
04:53for his army officers, and for the leading figures in Galilee.
04:58When the daughter of this same Herodias came in and danced, she delighted Herod and his
05:03guests.
05:04So the king said to the girl, Ask me anything you like, and I will give it to you.
05:11And he swore her a note, I will give you anything you ask, even half my kingdom.
05:18She went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask for?
05:22She replied, The head of John the Baptist.
05:27The girl hurried straight back to the king and made her request.
05:30I want you to give me John the Baptist's head, here and now, on a dish.
05:38The king was deeply distressed, but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests,
05:44he was reluctant to break his word to her.
05:48So the king at once sent one of the bodyguards with orders to bring John's head.
05:53The man went off and beheaded him in prison.
05:56Then he brought the head on a dish, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her
06:03mother.
06:04When John's disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
06:12The Gospel of the Lord
06:14Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:34Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.
06:39Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
06:58Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become for us our spirit children.
07:02Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become for us our spirit children.
07:18Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
07:23Through these offerings which we bring you, O Lord, grant that we may make straight your paths,
07:35as taught by the voice crying in the desert, St. John the Baptist,
07:39who powerfully sealed his teaching by the shedding of his blood, through Christ our Lord.
07:45Amen.
07:46The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
07:48Lift up your hearts.
07:50We lift them up to the Lord.
07:51Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
07:53It is right and just.
07:55It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks.
08:01Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
08:05In his precursor, St. John the Baptist, we praise your great glory,
08:11for you consecrated him for a singular honor among those born of women.
08:17His birth brought great rejoicing.
08:19Even in the womb he leapt for joy at the coming of human salvation.
08:24He alone, of all the prophets, pointed out the Lamb of Redemption.
08:30And to make holy the flowing waters, he baptized the very author of baptism.
08:35And he was privileged to bear him supreme witness by the shedding of his blood.
08:40And so, with the powers of heaven, we worship you constantly on earth.
08:46And before your majesty, without end, we acclaim.
08:49Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts.
08:54Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
08:57Hosanna in the highest.
08:59Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:02Hosanna in the highest.
09:04You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
09:14Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
09:16by sending down your Spirit upon them like the doofold,
09:20so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:25At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion,
09:28he took bread, and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:34Take this, all of you, and eat of it.
09:37For this is my body, which will be given up for you.
09:58In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
10:08and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
10:12Take this, all of you, and drink from it.
10:14For this is the chalice of my blood,
10:17the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:20which will be poured out for you and for many,
10:23for the forgiveness of sins.
10:25Do this in memory of me.
10:28The mystery of faith.
10:50Save us, Savior of the world,
10:52for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
10:55Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:00we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:04giving thanks that you have held us worthy
11:06to be in your presence and minister to you.
11:10Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:14we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:17Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world,
11:20and bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:23together with Leo our Pope and Charles our Bishop and all the clergy.
11:28Remember also our brothers and sisters,
11:30who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
11:34and all who have died in your mercy.
11:36Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:39Have mercy on us all, we pray,
11:42that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
11:45with blessed Joseph, her spouse,
11:47with the blessed apostles and all the saints,
11:50who have pleased you throughout the ages,
11:52we may marry to be co-heirs to eternal life,
11:55and may praise and glorify you
11:57through your Son, Jesus Christ.
11:59Through him, and with him, and in him,
12:07O God, Almighty Father,
12:09in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:11all glory and honor is yours,
12:14forever and ever.
12:17Amen.
12:19At the Savior's command,
12:21and formed by divine teaching,
12:23we dare to say,
12:25Our Father, who art in heaven,
12:27hallowed be thy name.
12:30Thy kingdom come,
12:31thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:35Give us this day our daily bread,
12:37and forgive us our trespasses,
12:39as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:43And lead us not into temptation,
12:45but deliver us from evil.
12:48Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
12:49from every evil,
12:50graciously grant peace in our days,
12:53that by the help of your mercy,
12:54we may be always free from sin,
12:56and saved from all distress,
12:59as we await the blessed hope
13:00and the coming of our Savior,
13:02Jesus Christ.
13:06Lord Jesus Christ,
13:07who said to your apostles,
13:08Peace I leave you,
13:09my peace I give you,
13:10look not on our sins,
13:12but on the faith of your church,
13:14and graciously grant her peace and unity
13:16in accordance with your will,
13:18who live and reign forever and ever.
13:21The peace of the Lord be with you always.
13:23Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
13:27Please be with you.
13:28Lamb of God,
13:44you take away the sins of the world,
13:46have mercy on us.
13:48Lamb of God,
13:49you take away the sins of the world,
13:51have mercy on us.
13:53Lamb of God,
13:54you take away the sins of the world,
13:57grant us peace.
13:58Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
14:17Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
14:20Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
14:30My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:35I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:40Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, commonly, spiritually into my heart,
14:45I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you.
14:51Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
14:55Let us pray.
15:02Grant, O Lord, as we celebrate the heavenly birth of St. John the Baptist,
15:08that we may revere, for what it signifies, the saving sacrament we have received,
15:13and even more, may rejoice at its clear effects in us, through Christ our Lord.
15:21Lord be with you.
15:22May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
15:28Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
