In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you.
00:20
Dear friends, today we celebrate the memorial of the Passion of St. John the Baptist.
00:24
We remember that for the sake of the truth and witnessing to it, John the Baptist gave the ultimate witness of martyrdom.
00:33
And so is a model for all of us who are currently living in a time where truth is challenged or people are trying to rewrite it.
00:41
We pray for the grace that you and I might be courageous witnesses to the truth, no matter what the cost.
00:47
Maybe we also pray for everyone who are currently struggling, grappling with the concept of truth.
00:54
And maybe there are some who are in our communities and families.
00:57
We pray for them that they might encounter Him who is way, truth, and life.
01:03
Also apologies for the late beginning of this live stream match today.
01:09
Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins.
01:11
And so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
01:15
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
01:38
Amen.
01:39
Let us pray.
01:40
O God, who willed that St. John the Baptist should go ahead of your Son, both in his birth and in his death.
01:49
Grant that as he died a martyr for truth and justice, we too may fight hard for the confession of what you teach.
01:58
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
02:06
Amen.
02:06
A reading from the prophet Jeremiah.
02:09
The word of the Lord was addressed to me, saying,
02:13
Brace yourself for action.
02:16
Stand up and tell them all I command you.
02:19
Do not be dismayed at their presence, or in their presence I will make you dismayed.
02:25
I, for my part today, will make you into a fortified city,
02:30
a pillar of iron, and a wall of bronze to confront all this land.
02:35
The kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the country people.
02:40
They will fight against you, but shall not overcome you.
02:45
For I am with you to deliver you.
02:48
It is the Lord who speaks.
02:50
The word of the Lord.
02:53
I will sing your salvation.
02:58
I will sing your salvation.
03:00
In you, O Lord, I take refuge.
03:02
Let me never be put to shame.
03:04
In your justice, rescue me, free me.
03:07
Pay heed to me and save me.
03:09
I will sing your salvation.
03:12
Be a rock where I can take refuge, a mighty stronghold to save me.
03:16
For you are my rock, my stronghold.
03:19
Free me from the hand of the wicked.
03:21
I will sing your salvation.
03:24
It is you, O Lord, who are my hope, my trust, O Lord, since my youth.
03:29
On you I have leaned from my birth, from my mother's womb.
03:32
You have been my help.
03:34
I will sing your salvation.
03:37
My lips will tell of your justice, and day by day of your help.
03:41
O God, you have taught me from my youth, and I proclaim your wonders, Jill.
03:45
I will sing your salvation.
03:49
Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:50
Happy are they who suffer persecution for justice' sake.
03:54
The kingdom of heaven is theirs.
03:57
Alleluia.
03:57
The Lord be with you.
04:02
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
04:05
Herod had sent to have John arrested, and had him chained up in prison, because of Herodias,
04:15
his brother Philip's wife, whom he had married.
04:18
For John had told Herod, it is against the law for you to have your brother's wife.
04:25
As for Herodias, she was furious with him, and wanted to kill him.
04:29
But she was not able to, because Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a good and
04:36
holy man, and gave him his protection.
04:38
When he had heard him speak, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.
04:46
An opportunity came on Herod's birthday, when he gave a banquet for the nobles of his court,
04:53
for his army officers, and for the leading figures in Galilee.
04:58
When the daughter of this same Herodias came in and danced, she delighted Herod and his
05:03
guests.
05:04
So the king said to the girl, Ask me anything you like, and I will give it to you.
05:11
And he swore her a note, I will give you anything you ask, even half my kingdom.
05:18
She went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask for?
05:22
She replied, The head of John the Baptist.
05:27
The girl hurried straight back to the king and made her request.
05:30
I want you to give me John the Baptist's head, here and now, on a dish.
05:38
The king was deeply distressed, but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests,
05:44
he was reluctant to break his word to her.
05:48
So the king at once sent one of the bodyguards with orders to bring John's head.
05:53
The man went off and beheaded him in prison.
05:56
Then he brought the head on a dish, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her
06:03
mother.
06:04
When John's disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
06:12
The Gospel of the Lord
06:14
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:34
Fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.
06:39
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
06:58
Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become for us our spirit children.
07:02
Fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become for us our spirit children.
07:18
Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
07:23
Through these offerings which we bring you, O Lord, grant that we may make straight your paths,
07:35
as taught by the voice crying in the desert, St. John the Baptist,
07:39
who powerfully sealed his teaching by the shedding of his blood, through Christ our Lord.
07:45
Amen.
07:46
The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
07:48
Lift up your hearts.
07:50
We lift them up to the Lord.
07:51
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
07:53
It is right and just.
07:55
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere, to give you thanks.
08:01
Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
08:05
In his precursor, St. John the Baptist, we praise your great glory,
08:11
for you consecrated him for a singular honor among those born of women.
08:17
His birth brought great rejoicing.
08:19
Even in the womb he leapt for joy at the coming of human salvation.
08:24
He alone, of all the prophets, pointed out the Lamb of Redemption.
08:30
And to make holy the flowing waters, he baptized the very author of baptism.
08:35
And he was privileged to bear him supreme witness by the shedding of his blood.
08:40
And so, with the powers of heaven, we worship you constantly on earth.
08:46
And before your majesty, without end, we acclaim.
08:49
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of hosts.
08:54
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
08:57
Hosanna in the highest.
08:59
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:02
Hosanna in the highest.
09:04
You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
09:14
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
09:16
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the doofold,
09:20
so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:25
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion,
09:28
he took bread, and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:34
Take this, all of you, and eat of it.
09:37
For this is my body, which will be given up for you.
09:58
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
10:08
and once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying,
10:12
Take this, all of you, and drink from it.
10:14
For this is the chalice of my blood,
10:17
the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:20
which will be poured out for you and for many,
10:23
for the forgiveness of sins.
10:25
Do this in memory of me.
10:28
The mystery of faith.
10:50
Save us, Savior of the world,
10:52
for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
10:55
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:00
we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:04
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
11:06
to be in your presence and minister to you.
11:10
Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:14
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:17
Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world,
11:20
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:23
together with Leo our Pope and Charles our Bishop and all the clergy.
11:28
Remember also our brothers and sisters,
11:30
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
11:34
and all who have died in your mercy.
11:36
Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:39
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
11:42
that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
11:45
with blessed Joseph, her spouse,
11:47
with the blessed apostles and all the saints,
11:50
who have pleased you throughout the ages,
11:52
we may marry to be co-heirs to eternal life,
11:55
and may praise and glorify you
11:57
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
11:59
Through him, and with him, and in him,
12:07
O God, Almighty Father,
12:09
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:11
all glory and honor is yours,
12:14
forever and ever.
12:17
Amen.
12:19
At the Savior's command,
12:21
and formed by divine teaching,
12:23
we dare to say,
12:25
Our Father, who art in heaven,
12:27
hallowed be thy name.
12:30
Thy kingdom come,
12:31
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:35
Give us this day our daily bread,
12:37
and forgive us our trespasses,
12:39
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:43
And lead us not into temptation,
12:45
but deliver us from evil.
12:48
Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
12:49
from every evil,
12:50
graciously grant peace in our days,
12:53
that by the help of your mercy,
12:54
we may be always free from sin,
12:56
and saved from all distress,
12:59
as we await the blessed hope
13:00
and the coming of our Savior,
13:02
Jesus Christ.
13:06
Lord Jesus Christ,
13:07
who said to your apostles,
13:08
Peace I leave you,
13:09
my peace I give you,
13:10
look not on our sins,
13:12
but on the faith of your church,
13:14
and graciously grant her peace and unity
13:16
in accordance with your will,
13:18
who live and reign forever and ever.
13:21
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
13:23
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
13:27
Please be with you.
13:28
Lamb of God,
13:44
you take away the sins of the world,
13:46
have mercy on us.
13:48
Lamb of God,
13:49
you take away the sins of the world,
13:51
have mercy on us.
13:53
Lamb of God,
13:54
you take away the sins of the world,
13:57
grant us peace.
13:58
Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
14:17
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
14:20
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
14:30
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:35
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:40
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, commonly, spiritually into my heart,
14:45
I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you.
14:51
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
14:55
Let us pray.
15:02
Grant, O Lord, as we celebrate the heavenly birth of St. John the Baptist,
15:08
that we may revere, for what it signifies, the saving sacrament we have received,
15:13
and even more, may rejoice at its clear effects in us, through Christ our Lord.
15:21
Lord be with you.
15:22
May Almighty God bless you, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
15:28
Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.
15:30
The Gospel of the Lord.
15:39
God bless you, the Lord.
