00:00There's a big decision coming up that could reshape part of the Temple Quarter, specifically
00:08the ironworks scheme on Silverthorne Lane. Here's what you need to know.
00:14Developments want to add 63 more flats to the existing plans for plots for two and three,
00:21raising the total from 371 to 434 homes. This is part of the wider mixed-use scheme that
00:30already includes space for offices, restaurants, cafes and a secondary school and student accommodation.
00:38The updated proposal features five residential blocks with the tallest reaching up to 14
00:45storeys. However, there's no affordable housing included in the plan. Only 16 parking
00:50spaces are proposed as the development relies heavily on its proximity to the city's centre
00:57and Temple Meads to encourage walking, cycling and public transport. The good news? A brand new
01:04canal-side walkway is planned, running along the old feeder canal. The scheme also includes around
01:121,500 square metres of retail and business space and the planting of approximately 100
01:20new trees to help green the area. Financially, the scheme is valued at around £130 million,
01:28representing one of the largest private investments in Bristol's regeneration efforts in recent years.
01:35Developers say that the project will create around 250 construction jobs and an estimated 100
01:42permanent roles once completed.
