00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Bertz and today I'm out
00:03on the streets of Manchester asking people about high streets. Now this time last week
00:07I came out into Manchester and asked people about the declining state of our high streets
00:11and what they wanted to see replace some of the bigger stores that are closing down across
00:15England. The answer was basically a lot of small independent places so today we're pursuing
00:20that. We're asking people to name three businesses here in Manchester that they think should be
00:25on every high street in England and we're going to find out a little bit about why as well.
00:30So let's go see what people have to say. Okay well obviously Fanboy 3. Yeah yeah yeah. Okay
00:35so we would like a Fanboy 3. Everywhere. Everywhere. Yes please. Oh because okay firstly obviously
00:41we're very interested in the hobby of tabletop gaming so having a tabletop gaming store of
00:47that quality everywhere would be incredible but also shops like that operate as like the
00:53heart of a community. Yeah. That's awesome you know. They're places you can hang out and meet
00:58people and socialise. They they replace the ancient need for like a church where as a community
01:04hub. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. So like like a shop that like a grain of sand in an oyster creates
01:11a pearl around it. Those kind of shops on high streets would be awesome everywhere I think.
01:16We'll actually say Affleck's Palace 100%. Really? Absolutely love Affleck's Palace. Other than that
01:22there's a place called Gone Fishing Vintage. It's just on Oldham Street there. It's my
01:26friend's shop. Amazing vintage clothing. And that's all I've got really. We like Fred Older
01:31so we're just nipping into there. It's like an arts and craft shop which is cool. But yeah
01:35I'd say those three. It's impossible but if more places in the world could have an Affleck's
01:40place that would be incredible. You know somewhere where smaller retailers or craft people or
01:48designers could get a place to showcase their work in a place where you knew you could always
01:52go and find things that are fresh and original and interesting. And yeah you know that would
01:56be amazing. As someone who is young but absolutely hates online shopping. The disconnect I feel from
02:04my peers and my ability to get stuff of that quality. As someone who doesn't live in Manchester
02:10would be completely resolved if there was one of those where I live.
02:14I just think that's just cooler stuff really. And I think people like those kind of shops
02:18you know like grassroots as well. You get better quality stuff really.
02:23Oh right eighth day. Yeah yeah somewhere that's like it's got different dietary needs but it's
02:31also like ethically really interesting. And yeah yeah somewhere that's got like a chill. I'm
02:38gonna I'm very old to use the word vibe but a chill vibe but also like yeah really really
02:44delicious interesting things to eat. And that's been here for like 50 years. Yeah like like so
02:51companies with that kind of like investment in the community and then staying power. That'd be awesome.
