00:00Welcome back to the TV6 News. Former government minister Dr. Lenny Saith has died.
00:05During his career, Dr. Saith served as the acting prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:09Dr. Saith passed away today at his home in San Fernando, but details surrounding his death have not yet been released.
00:17Meanwhile, opposition leader Penelope Beckles paid tribute to Dr. Saith during her major briefing today.
00:22I don't like to start with sad news, but it's important to inform the country that Dr. Lenny Christendorf Saith passed this morning.
00:38Dr. Saith, as you know, entered politics, as I recall, around 1987 when the People's National Movement was actually in opposition.
00:52And Dr. Saith was an engineer by profession. He chaired the People's National Movement.
01:01And Dr. Saith was very soft-spoken, but very humble, extremely effective.
01:11Opposition leader also reflected on Dr. Saith's career in public service.
01:16Dr. Saith served in the ministries of the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Planning and Development, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, Ministry of Trade and Industries.
01:37Dr. Saith was also the leader of government business.
01:43He received the Eric Williams Medal of Honor, and to his wife, relatives on behalf of the People's National Movement, and no doubt, the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:54So we extend our condolences as someone who served Trinidad and Tobago as a very humble, but as a very dedicated and committed person.
02:08And former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley also issued a statement saying that he was saddened to hear of Dr. Saith's passing.
02:16Dr. Rowley said Dr. Saith was a stalwart of public service to all the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
