00:00At seven o'clock in the morning, my wife comes through the door and she asked me,
00:03did you hear? I said, hear what? And she said, Lisa has died and two of her
00:10children died with her. I have not yet got over the sound of that news.
00:17Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, as he delivered remarks during a memorial
00:21service held in honor of Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris
00:25Julian on Tuesday following a tragic fire at her home in Arima in the
00:29predawn hours of Monday morning. I think we all should understand that this is
00:37but a tragedy and none of us could have anticipated or could have influenced in
00:47a different direction. Minister Morris Julian was the elected MP for WD Omera,
00:51a constituency which she was set to again contest for the PNM in the
00:56general election due next year. In acknowledging that he was not on the
01:00list of speakers on the printed program for the memorial service, Prime Minister
01:04Rowley recalled that Minister Morris Julian attended a Christmas celebration
01:09at the Diplomatic Center last Saturday. Lisa was there with her husband being
01:16Lisa, happy, gentle, talking to everybody, taking pictures. The last time I saw Lisa
01:23she was working her way through the crowd to leave and she stopped and
01:29took a picture of my wife and some other people around the group and that's, I was
01:35never to know that that was the last time I'd be seeing the best
01:41representative in the government of Trinidad and Tobago. Several members of
01:47cabinet attended the memorial service which was held at the Education Ministry
01:50Tower in downtown Port of Spain. Among those who paid tribute to Minister
01:54Morris Julian was Education Minister Dr. Nayan Gatsby Dolly who recalled how they
01:59divided their roles in the Education Ministry. And one role that Lisa asked for
02:05and served till the end was the ECCE, early childhood care, because she had a
02:15small child and she was invested in making sure that the children of that
02:23age were well taken care of. The Education Minister said Minister Morris
02:27Julian was very quiet and unassuming looking but was on the pulse of
02:31everything. The fact that the whole of America turned out yesterday and just
02:35stand there in the sun and the rain long after the incident had happened is just
02:42a tribute to how many people she touched and what seems to us to be a life that
02:47was too short but God knows best and he is in control.
02:52Prime Minister Rowley also acknowledged the different faiths many turned to in
02:56such a time of loss. To think of losing her and being told that she may have
03:05been hugging her child to her chest as she passed away in the flames. Those of
03:15you who have children, it's an assignment that you would never want to have but she heard it.
03:22Tributes continue to pour in for a minister and MP who is being remembered
03:27as having love not only for her children but all of the children of Trinidad and
03:32Tobago. Jule Brown TV6 News
