00:00A road reconstruction program is planned for Musarab Trace, Barakpore and Kanhai Road, North Barakpore.
00:06It comes as residents reached out to the National Commission for Self-Help, complaining about the condition of their roads.
00:13Now, the sword has been turned for the projects which are being done in collaboration with the Pinaldebe Regional Corporation,
00:20which will undertake the labor aspect.
00:23Chief Executive Officer of the NCFSH, Lester Liu, says it was approved in February of this year.
00:31This project will involve cleaning and preparation of the roadway, repairing the damaged sections and laying a new asphalt surface
00:41to ensure a smoother and more durable road.
00:45Likewise, the residents of Musarab Trace needed help to improve the access roads.
00:50It is expected to create jobs for 20 community members, benefiting more than 135 residents who use these roads daily.
01:01Chairman of the Commission, Vishnu Ramlakan, reveals the cost to taxpayers.
01:06At Musarab Trace, we have an approved budget of $211,312.50.
01:15This project will involve fixing about 300 meters of roadway.
01:20It will be done using an oil-sand method, which Ramlakan says is cost-effective, as he reveals the financial
01:27struggles the entity is in.
01:29Now, I know the residents here wanted to see at least hot mix.
01:34But I want to let you all know that the Commission, we inherited a debt of $17 million from the
01:40previous board.
01:40Repairing 475 meters of Kanhai Road will cost a little over $393,000.
01:49Hot mix asphalt will be used for those works.
01:53Parliamentary Secretary and MP for the area, Dr. Narendra Rupnarain, says it signals a promise made and a promise kept
02:01by the government.
02:02He further states that it was necessary.
02:04These works are not just about fixing roads, however.
02:09They are about restoring dignity, improving daily life, and ensuring that communities like yours are never left behind.
02:20Improved road infrastructure means safer travel, reduced vehicle damage, better drainage, less dust, mud, and a cleaner and healthier environment
02:33for one and all.
02:34Dr. Rupnarain claims that councillors, and by extension their regional corporations, were previously denied resources to soothe the residents.
