Educational psychologist,Sharlene Frederick-Turner says there is a need to treat with bullying in schools in providing a better learning environment.
She recently held a forum to deal with this and other topics. More from Elizabeth Williams.

00:00We know the effects of bullying on students' achievement is real.
00:05When students are being bullied or whether they're the one doing bullying, it usually affects their academic achievement.
00:13Speaking during a forum she held at the Mason Hall Community Center,
00:18she spoke to the fact that some adults are living through trauma they experienced as a child.
00:25There's a lot of people who are traumatized from childhood and as they grow into adults it becomes scary for them.
00:34They cannot mix, they cannot mingle, they cannot operate the way they should because they remember some childhood trauma.
00:43Somebody interfered with them and they never get the opportunity to talk about it.
00:47Somebody wanted to say something and the parents said no you can't say that.
00:51And it hurts even when they themselves get married, it hurts because this was never dealt with.
00:58She said that relationships are important.
01:02But just having somebody that you can talk to is very important.
01:06There are many lonely people here in Tobago.
01:10Seniors are lonely because their children probably would have abandoned them.
01:14So relationship is very important.
01:16If you're thinking of getting married, I beg that you get counseling.
01:22Because you can save yourself knowing that this is not going to work than to go through it and it doesn't work and then you have to start over.
