24 August - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon.
00:01Well, if you're a fan of the sunshine,
00:03there's plenty more on offer through today
00:06and more so through Bank Holiday Monday
00:08before turning more unsettled Tuesday onwards.
00:11So taking a look at the bigger picture then,
00:12we've got this area of high pressure
00:14just sinking its way south and eastwards,
00:16but that influences our weather through Sunday and Monday.
00:19As we go into Tuesday, we've got this area of low pressure
00:23ex-Hurricane Erin, that's gonna influence our weather,
00:26bringing showers or longer spells of rain
00:29and also bringing in some very large waves,
00:32especially across western coasts.
00:35But back to the rest of Sunday afternoon.
00:38There is variable amounts of cloud,
00:39but hopefully that'll start lifting, breaking.
00:42We should see some bright or sunny spells developing.
00:45The best of the sunshine really focused across Wales,
00:48the southwest of England, southeast of England,
00:50but also south and eastern areas of Scotland.
00:55There's still some outbreaks of rain
00:56just affecting Orkney and Shetland,
00:58but for the vast majority, it is a dry day.
01:02In the sunshine, it's still feeling pleasantly warm.
01:04We'll see highs 24, 25, possibly 26 degrees,
01:08but always cooler along the coast,
01:10where you've got a bit more of that onshore breeze.
01:14So as we go through Sunday evening then,
01:16most of this cloud will shift its way eastward.
01:18It will start melting away,
01:20and then for many, it's a dry night to come,
01:23the exception across Orkney and Shetland,
01:25where we've still got this cloud and rain.
01:27But elsewhere, lengthy clear skies overnight.
01:29There will be some mist and fog patches developing,
01:32and a bit more of a breeze just developing across the west,
01:36especially across the southwest and into Northern Ireland
01:39as we start Monday morning.
01:42But otherwise, temperatures holding up in towns and cities
01:45in the double digits,
01:46but some spots may dip down into the high single figures.
01:50So for those off on bank holiday Monday,
01:52well, it's a fine and pleasant day out there.
01:55Plenty of blue skies,
01:56a much brighter picture across Scotland,
01:58still holding on to some cloud across Orkney and Shetland,
02:02but for the vast majority,
02:03plenty of warm, lengthy sunshine.
02:06However, as we go into the afternoon,
02:09cloud will build across Northern Ireland.
02:11We'll start to see this weather front moving in,
02:13bringing some heavier spells of rain,
02:15and also some stronger winds.
02:17But otherwise, in that sunshine,
02:20with more of that southerly flow,
02:21we'll draw up some drier air,
02:23but also some warmer air.
02:24So temperatures are gonna be rising,
02:2628, possibly 29,
02:28maybe even 30 degrees for the likes of the Midlands,
02:31or even across parts of Wales.
02:34So pleasant day to come for most of us
02:36for bank holiday Monday.
02:39So as we go into the evening time though,
02:40this band of heavy rain will move its way
02:43across into Northern Ireland,
02:45western parts of Scotland,
02:47and then eventually into the southwest of England,
02:49holding on to the clearest skies across the far east.
02:54So that leaves an unsettled picture
02:55as we go Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday,
02:58with heavier spells of rain and showers,
03:01and generally temperatures turning closer to average.
