00:00Parents and guardians are urged to look out for symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease
00:07and impetigo and to keep their children at home to avoid the spread.
00:12While HFMD and impetigo occur seasonally every year, Tobago is currently experiencing an
00:19increasing number of cases.
00:22Statistics from the Office of the County Medical Office of Health, Tobago, reveal that the
00:27figures have doubled for HFMD over the period February 9-22, 2025.
00:35Cases of impetigo also increased while chickenpox numbers showed a slight decrease.
00:41The Division of Health states if you or someone you care for exhibits signs of symptoms of
00:48HFMD or impetigo, please visit a doctor.
00:53The key to reducing the spread of these diseases is for anyone who is ill to stay apart from
00:59other persons in their household and for children exhibiting signs or symptoms to be kept at
01:05home until all symptoms disappear.
01:08It is also important to practice proper hygiene such as keeping all parts of the body clean,
01:14wash hands often with soap and water, clean and disinfect all items used by infected persons
01:22such as toys and clean and disinfect all surfaces that infected persons come in contact with.
