00:00A couple of my takeaways, you can tell me yours, Crowder, a couple of mine takeaways.
00:03Tua is that dude, and I'm sorry if you don't see it, and I know it's just one series,
00:09but man, do I have confidence when he's in there dealing and he's healthy.
00:14You can get to third and long, or you can get to fourth and short, and I feel like he's going to convert.
00:20And by the way, I'm not including the goal line stuff because I think Mike McDaniel just said,
00:25you know what, it's a preseason game, we're going to try to get the ball in.
00:29And I think he would have gotten cutesier if he needed to in a regular season game.
00:34My guess is in a regular season game on that first drive, they end up scoring.
00:39But in a preseason game, that first drive watching Tua for me was like, wow, he is ready to go.
00:47He's in midseason form.
00:49He finds the open receiver.
00:52He doesn't get rattled.
00:54He had plenty of time.
00:56Kudos to the offensive line.
00:57And I felt good about what I saw.
01:00And again, I'm not extrapolating a season's worth of info from one drive in preseason game one.
01:06Just telling you watching that game, that was what jumped out at me at the beginning was,
01:10man, do I feel confident when Tua Tonga-Vailoa is taking the snaps.
01:14And, Hawk, you say it all the time.
01:18Actually, Solana brings up how heavy we are, the Dolphins roster.
01:23The top of the roster can compete with anybody.
01:26Tua, bro, Tua, I've told people this for years.
01:30I just did an interview or something.
01:32And Tua is a top 10 arm in the world.
01:35And it's always if he stays healthy.
01:38I think McDaniel called a play.
01:39I like how they, I think he tried to be tough.
01:43Do you say he would have got more cutesy?
01:45I think he was trying to show that toughness and that we can now pound the ball and all of that stuff,
01:52which I like and I enjoy and I've been begging him to do.
01:56But, yeah, this top, this offense, if Tua's healthy, they're going to be able to spin it.
02:02He can spin it and this O-line, if they protect him, which the joint practices were questionable.
02:10But the game didn't look bad at all.
02:12Because I was expecting from the joint practice reports, we can ask Perk in a second.
02:17I'm like, oh, this O-line is going to trouble me watching the game.
02:20It didn't trouble me watching the game.
02:22They were out there protecting Tua.
02:24He had time.
02:25And, bro, Tua is not my concern.
02:27Tua's head and his little fingers curling up around each other is my concern.
02:31How about down at the goal line, if they had run a naked boot?
02:35I mean, Tua would have waltzed right into that end zone.
02:38Nobody would have seen it coming.
02:40I mean, that's the kind of stuff I believe my head coach has up his sleeve.
02:45Take your Tua rushing overs, folks.
02:47Take your Tua rushing overs.
02:49No, don't take his rushing overs because I don't want him to run.
02:52But they should be able to get that ball in just off the manhood.
02:55They will.
02:56I believe they will.
02:58I think, like you said, he was like, hey, we'll just run it up the gut or we'll just power our way in.
03:04May have not.
03:04I mean, it didn't work.
03:05But I don't think you would have seen those exact play calls in the regular season.
03:09That's the thing that concerns me because the Bills would have pounded that ball in.
03:13The Lions would have pounded that ball in.
03:15The Ravens would have pounded that ball in.
03:17The teams we're going to have to beat to really make a playoff run would be able to get that ball in from there, Hawk.
03:22And that's what I don't even think they had Ollie Gordon in at that point.
03:25Did they?
03:26Wasn't Madison still playing at that point?
03:28No.
03:28So on that specific play, Tua gets them all the way down inside the five-yard line.
03:34And three separate times, Jalen Wright, who is the quote-unquote backup running back.
03:40We'll wait to see, but he's going to be the backup.
03:41Behind Devon HN is the guy who ended up getting stuffed all three times on the following drive,
03:48where it was actually Zach Wilson's second drive, right down the Bears' defense again.
03:52Those first two drives, I mean, seamlessly got into the red zone.
03:56It was Alexander Madison who scored the touchdown, finally punched it in.
04:01And, well, now we all know he is not going to play this season because of a neck injury.
04:06So Ollie Gordon looked good, though.
04:08He rushed hard.
04:08That was my other takeaway is that Ollie Gordon is better than Derrick Henry.
04:14See, he always goes too far, Solana.
04:17He looked good.
04:18That's what I wrote down.
04:18I was just scribbling notes during the game.
04:20You guys didn't have that same note because I was like, should I even bother saying this?
04:23Because one of them, I'm sure, will say it before I do.
04:26Right.
04:26No, no.
04:27You didn't have that feeling?
04:29I did not have that feeling.
04:30Derrick Henry, the running back.
04:32He's a big fella, though, now.
04:33He's a big fella.
04:35No, Derrick Henry.
04:35Derrick Henry, the beer vendor.
04:37Oh, did I say Derrick Henry?
04:42I meant Darren Henry.
04:43This is a friend of mine from Temple.
04:47I thought Ollie Gordon looked good, man.
04:49He did.
04:50That inside the five series is my concern for this season.
04:57Can we do that?
04:59Can we go get three yards and three chances?
05:02That should be pudding cake.
05:03And we couldn't last season and we couldn't yesterday.
05:05I get it.
05:06Like, I get it.
05:07I watched social media blow up when they were unable to get that first drive.
05:13The prettiest, most time-consuming drive.
05:18Like, it was everything you wanted it to be.
05:20Third down conversions, fourth down conversions.
05:23It's everything you want it to be.
05:24And then you can't get the ball into the end zone.
05:27And I opened Twitter and it was exactly what I thought it was going to be.
05:31And I closed Twitter real quick.
05:33And I said, I don't want to see this right now because I just didn't get the feeling like that's the way it would play out in the regular season.
05:39That was, you know, I don't know if I'm using Dolphins-colored glasses there, but I wasn't that concerned about that.
05:46Tua gets hurt.
05:47The Dolphins season's over.
05:50Josh Allen gets hurt.
05:51The Bills season's over.
05:52Lamar Jackson gets hurt.
05:54The Ravens season's over.
05:55Kansas City, Pat goes down.
05:57No matter who their quarterback is, they could get four yards and three tries.
06:02Right.
06:03And I think we can as well.
06:06I think we can as well.
06:07I have to see it, Hulk.
06:09I'm with you.
06:10I'm with you.
06:10I'm with you.
06:11I'm using just blind faith there that it's going to be a little bit different.
06:16And, you know, you say Josh Allen goes down, there goes their season.
06:19I don't know.
06:20Mike White had a very good game.
06:21I don't know if Pittsburgh has a quarterback controversy, but Skylar Thompson had a Pro Bowl style game.
06:30I think he may have just launched himself into the number one QB spot on the death chart.
06:37Why we gave up on that kid so early is beyond me.
06:40Man, would you love to have him on the roster right now?
06:42I told you.
06:43Three years is early.
06:45All right, let's do headlines because I do have so much stuff to get to.
06:49And Chris Perkins is going to join us today.
06:51That, by the way, is your training camp report.
06:54Training camp reports on WQAM are sponsored by Miami-Dade County Public Schools Technical Colleges.
07:00MDCPS Technical Colleges offer over 60 affordable accredited programs day or evening.
07:05Hands-on training aligned with local employers.
07:08Call 305-558-8000 or visit careerinayear.com and launch your future today.
07:15For the training camp report, I'll give you a tweet from Brian Baldinger.
07:19Who's a very good NFL mind.
07:22He says, Patrick Paul looked very sharp in his 24 plays.
07:27Great size, yet he moves so easily.
07:31He has everything it takes to be as good as he wants.
07:34So, good little review from Brian Baldinger on Patrick Paul after preseason game one.
07:41Everyone obviously has their fingers crossed for him.
07:45We'll do headlines here.
07:47By the way, all this week, it's Marvel Day at Lone Depot Park on Sunday, August 24th.
07:54Marlins host the Blue Jays that day.
07:56And we're going to give away a four-pack of tickets every day this week.
08:01So, just keep on listening for your chance to win some Marlins tickets for Marvel Day.
08:06Headlines with Solana brought to you by Doral Volkswagen.
08:10Doral VW just broke the rules of gravity.
08:12Prices are falling so fast, we're checking for a crater.
08:17Volkswagen's priced like they lost their minds.
08:19Doral VW, buckle up.
08:21No one sells for less.
08:23No one.
08:23Alexander Madison did undergo season-ending neck surgery.
08:28That was the latest news today.
08:30He went down in the second half of that game.
08:33It was a scary injury.
08:34Fell right on his head.
08:36And I did read from ESPN.
08:38He's expected to make a full recovery and has full strength and motion in his extremities.
08:44All right.
08:45That's football, baby.
08:48That is football.
08:49And I saw some hard hits this weekend.
08:51I mean, like, there were some highlights where you're just like, you wince.
08:55You forget how hard it is.
08:56And then all of a sudden, it's like right back in your face.
08:59Is it weird that I smile?
09:03No, I smile too.
09:05Like, there's something about football.
09:08I mean, we know what it is.
09:10What were we talking?
09:11We were talking yesterday.
09:12No, last week, you and I, and you mentioned the word violent or something.
09:17And, and, and then we, I can't remember if you said, or, or you were telling a story or
09:22whatever, but you're like, listen, the truth of the matter is the sport is violent.
09:26And sometimes you have to preach violence in this sport.
09:31And if you don't like it, by the way, UFC is very violent.
09:34UFC just signed a new broadcast deal.
09:36So, but I mean, you can take all the precautions you want and end fights when you think a fighter
09:42is defenseless, like, but it's a violent sport.
09:47And so is football.
09:49It just is.
09:49So is hockey, by the way.
09:51It's violent.
09:52I was just watching Scheffler yesterday, the golf tournament.
09:56He doesn't need to wear a helmet because he's not getting hit by 260 pound dudes running
10:0220 miles per hour.
10:03It's a violent sport.
10:04Stave them.
10:06I believe in the CTE.
10:07I'm not saying it's nothing.
10:08Just protect the players.
10:10But if you come across that middle, your ass about to get flipped upside down.
10:14It is what it is.
10:17Dolphins are working out.
10:18Jamal Williams, by the way, he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns back in 2022 with Detroit.
10:25The Dolphins play Detroit Saturday.
10:27It's their next preseason game.
10:29All right.
10:30He was good 10 years ago.
10:31And we're bringing Aaron Waller and just, I mean, take your choice, man.
10:39Odell Beckham.
10:41Who else have we got?
10:42What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:43Let's call Leroy.
10:44See if he can.
10:45Who are we bringing in?
10:47What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:48What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:48What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:48What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:49What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:49What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:49What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:50What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:50What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:50What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:51What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:51What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:52What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:53What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:54What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:55What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:56What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:57What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:58What's Leroy Hoard doing?
10:59What's Leroy Hoard doing?
