If the Dolphins are going to have a ‘good’ season, who will end up being their MVP? A strong case is built for Tyreek Hill but Crowder is adamant that Tua Tagovailoa will have to produce.

00:00I was looking, Pro Football Network, they did every NFL team's 2025 MVP candidate.
00:12Now, you would imagine, well, I'll ask you, who do you think would be the Miami Dolphins,
00:18according to Pro Football Network, who do you think the Miami Dolphins MVP candidate
00:23would be going into next season?
00:26Tua, got to be Tua.
00:28Solana?
00:30Tua or Minka Fitzpatrick?
00:33So it's...
00:34Safety?
00:35It's Tyreek Hill.
00:37It's a ridiculous...
00:38It was a ridiculous answer.
00:39Solana.
00:41Why?
00:41The safety.
00:42I will double your salary if Minka Fitzpatrick is the Dolphins MVP candidate going into next season.
00:52Mark the tape, Jimmy.
00:54Jimmy, lose that tape.
00:57A safety?
00:58Yeah, I mean, we don't have to get into it.
01:02Like, obviously, I think it was Tua, but I do think if Minka Fitzpatrick is the best player
01:06on the Dolphins' defense, it would be huge, because the Dolphins literally have nobody else
01:11of note in the secondary.
01:14Is he the best player already on the defense?
01:15That's a good question.
01:16Definitely on the defense, but in the secondary, I mean, you can't name me anybody else other
01:22than Cater Kohu in the Dolphins' secondary right now.
01:25So, like, Minka Fitzpatrick has to carry that entire secondary, all the DBs.
01:31I truly believe it.
01:32So, I think he needs to be the Dolphins' MVP this year if they're going to be good, or one
01:37of their MVPs this year.
01:39It would be if Chubb or Jalen come back from injury strong.
01:45That's what it would be.
01:46It would be one of those pass rushers.
01:47I'm with you, Solana.
01:48As we sit here today, they play a game tomorrow.
01:50Minka Fitzpatrick is the best one touching the field.
01:52But if one of them pass rushers come back, and for their defense to be good, we need to
01:59get a couple of those pass rushers back.
02:02Chop Robinson got to do his thing.
02:04Found it interesting that Tyreek Hill is Pro Football Network's choice for the pot, because
02:08most of them are quarterbacks, obviously.
02:10I think Saquon is, you know, a non-quarterback who's up as a team MVP possibility.
02:18I just found it interesting, because remember yesterday, we were looking at the Hard Rock props,
02:21and they don't even have Tyreek Hill catching for 1,000 yards.
02:25Like, they're expecting a down season.
02:28I'll read you what it says on Pro Football Network.
02:30Tua Tunga-Vailoa might be the more realistic MVP candidate for the Dolphins, simply because
02:35he plays quarterback.
02:36But Tyreek Hill is the one most likely to do something we've never seen, thanks to his speed
02:43and explosiveness.
02:44Hill is one of the most dangerous players in the league.
02:47His 2024 season wasn't his best, mostly because of quarterback issues, but in 2023, he led
02:55the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns.
02:58The Dolphins went 8-9 last season.
03:01If they stay healthy, Mike McDaniel's offense could return to elite form.
03:06In 2023, they led the NFL in yards and were second in scoring.
03:11If that version of Miami returns, Hill will be a huge reason why.
03:17And I thought it was interesting, because when I read it, you know, I have relied on ignoring
03:22last season and counting the 2023 season in every argument I give you for Tua and Mike McDaniel.
03:31But for whatever reason, I have not extended that same thing to Tyreek Hill.
03:36But this one made me kind of sit up and go, you know what, maybe I should be extending
03:42that kind of courtesy to Tyreek Hill as well, and just write off last season for all the
03:48players involved.
03:49And if you go back to 23, Tyreek Hill, I mean, last year we were talking about a 2,000 yard
03:55season, and it was based on what he had done in 2023.
03:59So, maybe they're not that far off on that.
04:03Tyreek Hill didn't have a 100-yard game with Tua healthy, because Tua played in the Green
04:11Bay game.
04:13What's that?
04:141, 2, 3, 4, 5.
04:15The last 11 games of the season, Tyreek didn't break 100 yards until the last game, Jacksonville,
04:23which was worthless.
04:24Tua can go for 300-hawk, and Tyreek can still have 4 for 16.
04:34But all the, I mean, let's be honest, last year, all those catches were going to Odell
04:40Beckham.
04:40And now that he's not on the team anymore, that should free up some passes for Tyreek Hill.
04:46Worst acquisition in the history of the franchise.
04:49I don't know, I'm just saying, if I write off 24, and just say, don't count that against
04:57Tua, don't count it against Mike McDaniel, I should probably do that for Tyreek Hill.
05:01And that being said, just talking about what we were saying yesterday about the overs, the
05:05player props, I mean, you should probably bet Tyreek over on receiving yards.
05:10Again, if you follow my rationale that 2023 is the more representative version of the Dolphins
05:19team than 2024, you should probably play the overs, because his overs are very depressed
05:25right now because of last season.
05:27And Tua can still ball.
05:29Tua can go for 350, and Tyreek gets double-teamed every play, and he throws it to Jalen Waddle,
05:34Darren Waller balls.
05:35Like, you can isolate Tyreek Hill, but you can't stop the quarterback that's going to
05:42throw a ball 30 times a game.
05:43I gotcha.
05:44But great receivers, we've talked about it, great receivers have a way of getting the
05:49ball, and great coaches have a way of getting the ball in, and great quarterbacks too, have
05:56a way of getting the ball in great receivers' hands, even when the defense is keying on that
06:01player.
06:01Are all three of our sectors of what you just said great?
06:06Because I think Tyreek's great.
06:11I know Tua's very good.
06:13I don't know if McDaniel is great.
06:16I don't know.
06:17But that was the most frustrating part about last season, when Tua was healthy.
06:22Oh, yeah, they're playing four high.
06:26And it's like, who cares?
06:27Like, what, teams haven't doubled Tyreek Hill in the past?
06:30I get it.
06:31He was a little banged up, and then the way he ended the season quitting, like, we're
06:35all frustrated with Tyreek Hill.
06:36But remember, and I hate to read this again, but I read the stat to you guys yesterday from
06:40Chris Perkins.
06:41I still have it written down.
06:42Over the past two years, the Dolphins are 11-0 and average 35 points per game when Tyreek
06:47Hill has 100 yards or more receiving.
06:50When he has 99 yards of receiving or less, the Dolphins are 7-16 and average 18 points per
06:56game.
06:56And maybe we shouldn't be surprised with what Pro Football Talk is saying, Hawk.
07:00Tyreek Hill is, without a doubt, the best player on the Miami Dolphins.
07:02Like, without a doubt, if you just ranked players on the team.
07:06And you need your best player to be your best player.
07:10And he wasn't a season ago.
07:11So they're probably right.
07:13Tua's great, but Tyreek Hill makes him even better.
07:16Tyreek Hill has been an elite NFL player before.
07:20Tua hasn't been elite.
07:21He's been very good.
07:22I'm a big fan of his, but Tyreek Hill has been elite.
07:25By the way, someone texted in.
07:26They're 100% correct.
07:28That song, Jimmy, is from My Cousin Vinny.
07:31That's where I knew that song from.
07:33That 100% is in My Cousin Vinny and much more recognizable from that.
07:38It was in Big 2.
07:40I'm not disputing that.
07:41I'm just saying, I knew it from another movie.
07:44It was My Cousin Vinny.
07:46This is the tough thing about, and this is right back on Mike McDaniel, who is the, what'd you say, Hawk?
07:53The second leading coach to lose his job, you know, betting wise.
07:58Yeah, right behind Brian Dable.
08:00I'm just going off targets.
08:02I'm not talking about yards or receptions, just targets.
08:05Jamar Chase, one.
08:06Neighbors, two.
08:07Drake London, Atlanta, three.
08:08Justin Jefferson, four.
08:10Garrett Wilson, tied with 154 at five.
08:16CeeDee Lamb, Jerry, Judy, and Cleveland.
08:19Just targets.
08:19Just getting them an opportunity to make a play.
08:22Tyreek Hill's 19.
08:24But it was, again, a down season for everyone involved.
08:30Give me that same stat.
08:32Give me the target stat for 2023.
08:34You know, all I'm saying is this, and I understand this is convenient on my part.
08:39I am saying, forget the most recent season.
08:43Look at the stats from 2023 and use those as your expectations for the coming season.
08:50And it, it, and you're, I'll prove your point right now.
08:54Steedy Lamb, one.
08:55Devon Adams, two.
08:57Tyreek Hill, three with 171.
08:59Garrett Wilson, Ahmad St.
09:01A.J. Brown, Stephon Diggs, Fuka Nakua, A.J. Brown, all those top receivers.
09:06That's what it should be.
09:08And Tyreek was three.
09:09And Tyreek was three, two years ago.
09:11That's all I'm saying.
09:12Again, very convenient for my argument.
09:14I get it.
09:15But I, I have not extended that same kind of sensibility to Tyreek for the upcoming season
09:23that I have for Tua and that I have for Mike McDaniel.
09:26And reading what Pro Football Network had written there about MVP candidates got me thinking like,
09:33huh, if I am going to say, hey, go back to 2023, well then Tyreek Hill probably is your
09:39MVP candidate and you probably should expect a damn great season from Tyreek Hill.
09:46But if Tyreek goes for 1,700 and Tua throws for 4,500, Tua is still going to be the MVP.
09:54Probably.
09:57Probably.
09:58I don't know.
09:58I don't, I don't know.
09:59He wasn't, he wasn't two years ago.
10:03I think, though, I think just based on the conversation we're having and the, and the stats you read from 23 versus 24,
10:09I want to bet Tua overs and Tyreek Hill overs.
10:14There was like, is Liam Eikenberg still playing?
10:18I'm going to bet his overs as well.
10:21Bet his, bet his, bet over sacks.
10:24Sacks giving up.
10:26There was like a three week stretch in 23 early in the season after the 70 point game.
10:31Tua was in the MVP conversation.
10:33But then by the, by the end of that season, even before the Tennessee loss,
10:37Tyreek chasing 2,000 yards was like the headline.
10:42And Tua fell out of the MVP race.
10:44Tyreek didn't.
10:44I remember some of us taking flyers on Tyreek Hill to win MVP because we thought, hey, he's going to get to 2,000.
10:51And if he does, no matter where the Dolphins are in the playoff race, he's going to win MVP.
10:55It's never been done before by somebody of his stature.
10:58He's the MVP, bro.
11:02Hmm.
11:05As a betting man, I bet Tua.
11:07But I, I can see the other side if everything gets back on track from 24 months ago.
11:14That's all I'm saying is I've been saying everything's going to get back on track from 2023,
11:18but I've been discounting Tyreek Hill as part of that for some reason.
11:23And I probably shouldn't be doing that because he was the key cog in the 2023 stats.
