10 August - National weather forecast presented by Gregory Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:04And temperatures are really on the rise as we go through the next few days and potentially rest of the week as well.
00:11High pressure sat to the southeast of the UK, starting to draw in some hot and humid air from the near continent.
00:17But low pressure sat to the west, northwest, and weather fronts will cross northwestern parts of the UK,
00:23introducing some thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain at times too.
00:26But even here, there will be some warm sunshine to be had at times through the week to come.
00:33For this afternoon, you can see those cloudier skies extending across parts of Northern Ireland up into Scotland.
00:39The cloud becoming thick enough for some patchy outbreaks of rain as we move through the afternoon across Northern Ireland, western fringes of Scotland.
00:46But there will still be some bright or sunny spells, particularly across eastern parts.
00:50Generally, though, across England and Wales, plenty of sunny spells to come.
00:54And the afternoon cloud will bubble up at times, particularly in the west.
00:57And broken in places, sunshine a little hazy at times.
01:01And the wind picking up a little bit across the northwest.
01:04So here, temperatures generally the high teens to low 20s.
01:07But lighter winds elsewhere, temperatures will rise.
01:10And they'll be higher than what we saw on Saturday.
01:13So reaching the mid to locally high 20s, highs around 28 Celsius towards southeast England.
01:20So it will feel hot in that sunshine.
01:22Even though we're getting towards the middle of August, UV levels still high across much of England and Wales around level 6 or 7.
01:30No, lower where it's cloudier, further northwest.
01:32And you can see that rain streaming eastwards as we go through this evening and into the early hours.
01:38It will be light and patchy for some of us.
01:40But there could be a few heavier bursts, particularly over the higher ground, too.
01:43Something a little drier trying to move in to Northern Ireland later on.
01:46And that cloud and rain may just extend far enough south to affect some northern parts of England, perhaps the far north of Wales as well.
01:54Much of England and Wales, though, will be dry tonight with clear spells.
01:59There could be a few mist and fog patches forming once more, just like we saw last night and this morning.
02:05And temperatures, though, as that warmer air starts to move in, just not quite as low compared to the night just gone.
02:11So most places remaining in double figures.
02:15So it does mean a sunny start across England and Wales in particular, away from northern England,
02:19where it will be cloudy with some patchy light rain and drizzle over the hills.
02:22Any mist and fog patches soon clearing.
02:25The cloud and rain becoming more confined to northern parts of Scotland, northern parts of the Highlands,
02:30as we move through into the afternoon.
02:31One or two heavier bursts possible.
02:33So a bit of a grey, damp day here.
02:35Elsewhere, generally dry with some bright or sunny spells.
02:38And then the heat of the afternoon.
02:40We could just see one or two showers starting to develop anywhere across England and Wales.
02:44But the main focus will be across southwest England into Wales as we move through the day.
02:48Some medium level cloud moving in here could spark one or two thunderstorms, maybe one or two heavy downpours possible from it as well.
02:56But most of us will stay dry with some hazy spells of sunshine.
03:00Best of the blue skies across parts of the Midlands into eastern and southeast England.
03:04And temperatures here will rise.
03:06The high 20s, locally low 30s.
03:08We're going for a high around about 31 Celsius across the London area for tomorrow afternoon.
03:12And where the sunshine comes out across northern Ireland into Scotland here as well.
03:17Temperatures higher than Sunday.
03:19So looking at highs around 23 to 25 Celsius here.
03:23Into the evening time, the continued risk of one or two heavy showers and thunderstorms across parts of England and Wales.
03:29But the vast majority of us will miss these and it will stay dry.
03:33And it continues that way into the early hours as well.
03:36And rain continuing for a time across northern Scotland.
03:40But this should clear.
03:40And then the outlook, well, it's all about the temperatures.
03:43Probably peaking on Tuesday around 33 Celsius.
03:48And then just coming down a little bit as the week goes on.
03:50But staying well above average.
