00:01:52when he knocked out Rojas in the 11th round with a vicious four-punch combination to win the WBA featherweight title

00:01:58How about you, Purdy?

00:01:59Well, I have the same thing only I have an entry. Number one is that because

00:02:04Vazquez is so far behind he couldn't possibly win. Then this upset all of a sudden from nowhere and he wins

00:02:08That's just watching those KOs again.

00:02:09But if I had to pick my Showtime knockout of 96 I'd go with Wilfredo Vazquez over Eloy Rojas because of the circumstances Vazquez was behind on all three cards

00:02:14When he knocked out Rojas in the 11th round with a vicious four-punch combination to win the WBA featherweight title

00:02:18So far behind he couldn't possibly win then this upset all of a sudden from nowhere and he wins that that is to me number one

00:02:23But number two you can't afford looking at what a vendor did to Tyson is so important such a surprise to everybody

00:02:29But it was the opposite in that fight. He was leading and he was beating

00:02:33Tyson regularly so you expected to knock out so to me the edge goes to Vazquez who was some big surprise and a big fight for them

00:02:40There were two champions fighting one would go into retirement one and one a but very close very close number one on Bobby Cheson's head

00:02:48You know the unexpected the significance and the drama has to go that honor has to be bestowed upon Evander Holyfield

00:02:55That was a great fight. No one expected almost no one thought he could knock Mike out that he would have to win a decision

00:04:50It is his first attempt at a world title. We've heard that here before tonight

00:04:55Nick Rupa a very engaging very likable young man. We spoke to him at late yesterday

00:05:17Realizes just how important this night is fighting a man the caliber of a Terry Norris

00:05:24But he told us he intends to brawl to slug it out and 30 for check out

00:05:30That is just what mr. Norris likes

00:05:32In fact, he couldn't draw it up better on a blueprint except for the fact that he also like Trinidad goes down

00:05:39Only he doesn't come get up as well

00:05:41Norris doesn't get up as well as Trinidad does

00:05:43Trinidad seems to snap awake when he gets

00:05:46Whereas Norris gets up in bad trouble

00:05:48So if that's what they want and they want to shoot it out

00:05:54But very few people survive with Norris when you go punch for punch

00:05:57He even had an opportunity to chat with his wife

00:06:01His wife said he has been in such training as she's never seen

00:06:04And I asked her, I said, did you just get married? Did we elope?

00:06:07I said, have you seen any other boxer trained? She says, no

00:06:10I said, well, I got a message for you

00:06:12That's the way boxers train every day and hard

00:17:47expert in defense getting out of the way of punches blocking shots he's gonna need to work a group a

00:17:51little more but you know the corner of Norris already saw some kind of blood on the face of

00:18:04Rupa Rupa looks like he's the kind of guy cuts up there's that quick well-timed jab by Terry Norris but

00:18:10Rupa's game he just stands in there and takes it from Terry Norris I'll tell you what he took some

00:18:14good shots and he didn't show too many ill effects staggered a little bit but right there face he's

00:18:19getting red and a little bit ugly around that eye that was a determined set of punches that count

00:18:25those three combinations he threw that was enough to carry into the ropes and he stood pretty pretty

00:18:30firm did Rupa Norris his offensive machinery can often be overpowering usually it's the big difference

00:18:36especially against those not in his league what a heavy puncher when he gets it going with porosity

00:18:43Rupa said he wanted to work Terry's body and he's trying to do that but with his hands down it's gonna

00:18:49be a problem but keeps getting hit so clean we haven't seen that digging left uppercut yet which Norris does

00:18:56so well pounds to the wrist straight left jab there by Nick Rupa trying to keep Norris at bay

00:19:04I've got a little low there from Rupa

00:19:40a lot of those punches being eluded by the head of Norris and very low a lot of them are very low two or three of them look like they're running the button but not very hard

00:19:48there was that was the softest combination I've seen in a while well he's not sure he's throwing but he is throwing them and they are landing not real hard but they are

00:20:04no further you mentioned it Rupa was pretty dry Terry actually looks fairly dry himself maybe neither of the fighters heating up enough you think a good tactic for a challenge of Norris would be to

00:20:20into a situation where he'll lose his head

00:20:23you know that's a distinct possibility especially in the fight game that wouldn't surprise me even a bit

00:20:28break but I think the best target for Terry to try and target that chin
