00:00Wide Web, Night of Champions, the erotic song, pick a flick.
00:03Tonight, it's showtime.
00:08We're back in Nashville, and this building is the single most historic site in the world of country music.
00:15For it was here in the Ryman Auditorium, where the radio show known as the Grand Ole Opry
00:20began to broadcast the talents of virtually every major country star.
00:24But now, hoping to showcase their own talents in the world, not of music, but of fisticuffs are two of boxing's best
00:31and possible future opponents, the hard-hitting title holders Felix Trinidad and Terry Norris.
00:37Once an accounting major at a university in Puerto Rico, the soft-spoken IBF one-way champion
00:43has been adding up the knockouts in the victory column, compiling a perfect 30-0 record with 26 knockouts.
00:50I have beaten the best welterweights of this time, including several undefeated fighters.
01:02Because of the fights I've had, I believe that makes me the best welterweight in the world.
01:10Boxing people and fans are also saying,
01:12I would like to be a three, four, maybe five-time champion.
01:19It all depends if I continue to go up in weight and fight as well or better.
01:24I will claim other titles.
01:27But in order to do that, he will have to meet the smooth, slick, and powerful Terry Norris,
01:31who, as one of only two unified champions today,
01:34holds the WBC and IBF portions of the 154-pound title.
01:39When I step to that ring, I come to fight, and I really own the best in my weight,
01:43and I come to destroy it, and I want to show the world that I am truly, you know,
01:48one of the best champions in the world.
01:50However, before Trinidad and Norris meet for their long-awaited duet,
01:55they are performing separately in the country capital of the world.
01:59It's Trinidad showing off his hottest boxing licks
02:02against Kevin Lushing for the IBF one-way championship.
02:05And planning to make this tune-up a short one, Norris takes on Nick Rupa
02:10for the WBC and IBF 154-pound title.
02:14Next, at the Nashville Arena.
02:20Hi again, everybody.
02:22Steve Albert, the fight doctor, Ferdy Pacheco, Bobby Chess.
02:25Welcome back to the Nashville Arena here in the country music capital, Nashville, Tennessee.
02:29Home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry tonight.
02:31It's home for Showtime Championship Boxing as we launch our 1997 coverage
02:36with this marathon night of fights.
02:38Right now, the fans settling in for more activity
02:41as the two co-featured voucher ahead.
02:43Felix Trinidad takes on Kevin Lushing for the IBF welterweight title,
02:47followed by Terry Norris and Nick Rupa for the IBF and WBC 154-pound championships.
02:53So, while Trinidad and Norris concentrate on the business at hand
02:59and what might seem like tune-up fights here tonight,
03:01they appear to be on a collision course for the near future.
03:04And that would suit fight fans just about everywhere just fine.
03:08Trinidad versus Norris has the ingredients of a great one.
03:12And, Ferdy, say Trinidad does get together with Norris.
03:15Would Norris have the advantage because of the weight?
03:18Well, weight's an excellent card to play, but you know what?
03:20Trinidad's got a card, and it's called Speed, and sometimes Speed takes the pot.
03:25That's going to be a very interesting fight.
03:26Let's turn back to our other colleague, Bobby.
03:29Has any extra pressure on Felix Trinidad
03:31because he's being showcased on the same card as a possible future opponent in Terry Norris?
03:37You know, I don't really think so.
03:39I think Terry Norris is certainly on his mind, but secondary to Lushing.
03:42Right now, he's a young, undefeated, very prideful champion,
03:45a lot of pride in his title and his ability.
03:48He does the work in the gym.
03:49He comes prepared.
03:49He comes ready to fight.
03:50First and foremost is Lushing.
03:52In the back of his mind, though, you can believe Terry Norris is lurking there,
03:55but he's going to take care of the business at hand
03:57because he can't get down the road to the big one if he doesn't win tonight.
04:00Frankie Randall certainly leaves the picture.
04:02Exit right after the upset tonight by Khalid Rahilou of France.
04:06Well, Felix Trinidad is a brilliant craftsman in the ring,
04:09but despite his success, he has had some adventurous starts,
04:13although it's normally false confidence for future victims.
04:16So, we'll see what happens tonight.
04:17Trinidad versus Lushing right here at the Nashville Arena.
04:20The IBF welterweight title is at stake.
04:24And let's take our first look at the challenger, Kevin Lushing.
04:29He's the look.
04:30That's his nickname.
04:31He's worked as a model and actor, as a fighter.
04:33He's a former British welterweight champ,
04:34former brief sparring partner for WBC welterweight champion Pernell Whitaker.
04:38But tonight, his first shot at a world title.
04:42Kevin Lushing, perhaps buoyed, inspired by what happened just moments ago.
05:09When Khalid Rahilou, first world title shot just like him,
05:12came in and knocked off the champion, Frankie Randall.
05:16Lushing known as a big puncher.
05:18Last February, he put a fighter named Chris Saunders down five times en route to the British welterweight title.
05:23Britain's fight of the year is voted by the Boxing News of England.
05:27Bobby Chez, does Lushing have a puncher's chance, particularly with the questionable chin of Trinidad?
05:33I don't think Trinidad's chin is quite as questionable as people say,
05:36but Lushing is reportedly a good counterpuncher that has some up to those counters.
05:40And sometimes they're the most dangerous for young undefeated fighters to face,
05:44especially if they have good experience.
05:45Right now, Trinidad's still more experienced, but at the better level,
05:48with the better fighters.
05:49And he has everything, all the tools, to deal with just about anything.
05:52But I think it should be an excellent test for him.
05:54Just for the record, Trinidad got rocked early by Compass Carr,
05:58a journeyman named Anthony Stevens.
05:59All three knockdowns in the second round.
06:02And let us take a look at the champion.
06:05There's a championship belt.
06:07Here's the dynamic.
06:08Felix Trinidad of Puerto Rico.
06:10Fans reacting.
06:11The undefeated Trinidad making the 11th defensive as RBF welterweight title,
06:15which he's held since June of 93.
06:18Manyfield, he's on a direct course to superstars.
06:22Felix Trinidad at the young age of 24 has already made 10 title defenses,
06:4326 of his 30 wins by knockout.
06:45One of the highest knockout ratios among champions today, 87%.
06:49There's the Puerto Rican flag.
06:5216 of his last 17 opponents did not hear the final bell.
06:56And, Bernie, how has he progressed since you first saw him?
06:59I saw him when he had two fights, and he's gone up relentlessly forward,
07:04learning, making every fight a learning experience,
07:07getting better and better and better,
07:08until he reached the plateau of goodness about three or four or five fights ago,
07:12beyond which it'll take some doing to get better than that.
07:15He's very fast, he's very accurate, he has a great deal of precision, patience,
07:19and although he goes down, he gets right back up and fights a very hard fight.
07:23So I believe that he is one of those few that you said thought he was headed for superstardom.
07:29I thought so when I saw him fight in two fights.
07:32The always confident Felix Trinidad.
07:34Let's check the numbers.
07:35Trinidad turned 24 just yesterday.
07:37He was 20 when he won the title.
07:39He's four years younger than Luching.
07:40Trinidad a big welterweight, as we mentioned, at 5'11.
07:43Luching listed at 5'11.
07:44The weight almost evened, the reach exactly the same.
07:48IVF rules for this title fight.
07:49Scoring under the 10-point must system.
07:51Three judges, no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
07:54Only the referee can stop the fight.
07:56A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round
07:58if an accidental foul occurs before the end of the sixth round.
08:02Technical draw.
08:03If it happens after the end of the sixth, to the scorecards.
08:06So here in Nashville,
08:07IVF welterweight championship upcoming.
08:10Trinidad and Luching,
08:11the introductions from our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr.
08:16Well, well, it's about coming your way as a world title featured attraction
08:20once again brought to you by

08:25the undisputed, undefeated king of beers.
08:29This bout is sanctioned by the International Boxing Federation,

08:42Director of Boxing is John Hopkins.
08:45Introducing to you our judges scoring this bout from ringside,
08:47Samuel Conde, Robert Gonzalez, and Don O'Neal.
08:53A referee in charge, working in this, his 32nd world title bout,
08:59Denny Nelson.
09:01All right, fans, here we go with the IBF welterweight championship of the world,
09:07scheduled for 12 rounds of boxing.
09:10I present to you first the challenger on my left,
09:13fighting out of the blue corner,
09:15entering the ring wearing black and red trunks,
09:18joining us all the way from Westerham, Kent, England.
09:23He weighed in at already 146.25 pounds.
09:28With a record of 19 wins,
09:29he has only one defeat
09:31and 16 wins coming by way of knockout.
09:34Tonight's challenger,
09:35he is making his first attempt at a world title.
09:38Please welcome Kevin, the look, Luching.
09:46And his opponent across the ring,
09:48presenting the defending world champion on my right,
09:50fighting out of the red corner,
09:52wearing white trunks tonight,
09:54hailing from Fupe Alto, Puerto Rico.
09:58He weighed in at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
10:03He is undefeated in his campaign in the ring with 30 wins,
10:06no losses, 26 of his wins coming by way of knockout.
10:11Please welcome one of boxing's great young stars
10:14and pound-for-pound best tonight,
10:16making the 11th defense of his title,
10:18introducing the undefeated IBF welterweight champion of the world,
10:24Felix Tito Trinidad.
10:28Once again, a referee in charge,
10:35Denny and Nelson, now to give instructions.
10:38Now to give instructions.
10:38Denny and Nelson of St. Paul, Minnesota,
11:04trying to get Felix Trinidad into the center of the ring.
11:08Luching is already there, but hey,
11:09why not a little spot of water?
11:10Take your time.
11:13Here we go.
11:16Kevin, Felix, we've been over the rules earlier.
11:20You know what I expect?
11:21We want to keep a fight hard, clean fight,
11:25and protect yourself at all times.
11:27Good luck to both of you.
11:28The champion, Felix Trinidad,
11:35a very scientific fighter,
11:36studies his opponent's previous fights,
11:38memorizing their habits and patterns.
11:40So when he gets in the ring,
11:41it's as if he's fought the person before.
11:44Notoriously slow starter,
11:45but a terrific finisher,
11:46predicts a knockout by about the third round.
11:48Major jump in skill level for Kevin Luching,
11:51involved in England's fight of the year in 96,
11:53according to Britain's Boxing News, as mentioned.
11:55Now Chris Saunders down five times
11:58for the British welterweight title.
12:01The reason for the delay here,
12:03the ringside doctors are not quite in place yet.
12:07Referee Denny Nelson taking charge immediately.
12:11Looking down there.
12:14Apparently, as you can hear,
12:15the other doctors is not here.
12:18The always patient Felix Trinidad
12:21against Kevin Luching.
12:23Very exciting is Luching.
12:24He's a good left hook.
12:25He's a counterpuncher.
12:26What kind of a fighter, Bobby Chez,
12:29could beat a Felix Trinidad
12:31if that ever happens?
12:32Well, I think the guy
12:33who's going to beat Felix Trinidad
12:34certainly has to be able to punch
12:35and has to be able to take the punch
12:36because Felix is going to get his shots in two.
12:38But he has to be a good counterpuncher,
12:41make Felix miss,
12:42and make him pay.
12:43Now, what is going on?
12:45We continue to wait.
12:46The fighters are ready,
12:48and this is just not right.
12:49The position should be in place, 30.
12:51Yeah, one.
12:52Yeah.
12:53We're just told that they are ready,
12:54but really a ridiculous delay.
12:57Well, let me know.
12:57The doctor's not in place.
12:58The guy said go ahead and go without him
12:59because there's two or three doctors there.
13:01So they're going with one short.
13:02That's all.
13:03Okay.
13:03So here we go.
13:04Round one scheduled for 12 for the IBF.
13:07Welterweight Championship.
13:09Trinidad said that he'll end this in about three rounds.
13:12He said he's prepared, focused,
13:14but does think about Terry Norris quite a lot.
13:19Now, Lucien is going to wait.
13:20He's a counterpart.
13:21He's going to wait until Trinidad leads,
13:23get his rhythm, gauge his speed,
13:24and work on the counters.
13:26Oh, we've seen Trinidad a while away this first round,
13:29not looking like he's too interested in doing anything,
13:32but he does measure distance,
13:33and he does bounce up and down,
13:34see how close he can get to him
13:36to punch then from the second round on.
13:38Mayhem begins.
13:39Loosing said this will not go the distance.
13:42It'll either be a KO for him or he'll be KO.
13:45He told us the key to victory will be speed,
13:47and no fear, the crowd already upset
13:51at the non-action and doing a lot of buoying.
13:56Well, he's very young, Tito.
13:58His neck gets under his skin.
13:59And sometimes, in places where he really cares
14:02for the public, that bothers him,
14:03and he starts to fight a lot harder than he does.
14:06So right now, it's not bothering him,
14:08but it will when they start booing a lot.
14:10Right now, the two are just posing to each other.
14:12Well, Trinidad is a boxer-puncher,
14:14boxer-counter-puncher as well,
14:16so he's going to sometimes wait for the lead
14:19to do his own countering.
14:20Right now, he's waiting,
14:22and a straight-counter-puncher
14:23usually never takes the lead.
14:24Trinidad's favorite combination,
14:27left hook to the body,
14:28followed by a left hook to the head.
14:31Capitalizes on opponent's mistakes.
14:33He's just so smooth,
14:34makes good use of his height and range.
14:37Very impatient crowd here in Nashville,
14:39but they may soon find out
14:41how explosive Felix Trinidad can be.
14:43Well, that Frankie Randall fight
14:44for the first two rounds of the yawn,
14:46and then it builds up into an explosion.
14:48He approached the final minute
14:52of a very slow round one.
14:53As mentioned, no surprise,
14:55Trinidad does take his time.
14:58At the start, he'll sit outside and jam.
15:01This round was actually slower than chess.
15:03You know, how do you give this round
15:05to either guy who hasn't thrown anything?
15:07I mean, what is this, an even round?
15:08I mean, nothing, nothing has happened.
15:11No one's landed a punch,
15:12barely touched gloves.
15:13Yeah, I mean, how do you rank this?
15:16It's a draw.
15:16A non-round.
15:17Oh, that's one.
15:21Well, if Tito does anything right now,
15:23he wins the round.
15:23If the other guy does, he wins.
15:25With less than 30 seconds remaining.
15:29Now, here's where the corner
15:30should be screaming at him to do something.
15:34Lushing said while he did respect Trinidad,
15:36he'll return to England a hero.
15:42When he pulls off a win here,
15:44he would be a hero.
15:45You didn't finish the sentence.
15:47He goes back to England a hero if he wins.
15:50Yep.
15:50If he loses, he can do whatever he wants.
15:52And the crowd continues to voice its disproven.
15:57Did Lucian win the round with that?
15:58I give it an even round because I didn't think
16:00either one did anything.
16:01You've released the tension, you've released the pressure.
16:16Now start to work.
16:17Now, whenever you can, start going to the body with calm, with calm, jabbing first and going to the body.
16:29And he said, keep your hands up for all the things that he does, by the time you hit him, a body shot, you can hook up to the head, all things that he does well.
16:44Keep saying, keep saying, with calm, with calm, with calm.
16:53And you can afford to be calm when you've got a guy fighter of that caliber.
16:56You can afford to be calm.
16:57Bernie, the hardest punch of the fight was just now in the corner.
17:00Felix Trinidad Sr. slapping Junior.
17:03Well.
17:03He's a former featherweight champion.
17:05I can guarantee you that's an odd, odd round that you can throw away.
17:08You'll never see that again in this fight.
17:10From here on out, the fighting starts.
17:12Well, Lushing trying to take it to Trinidad as we begin round two.
17:18The posing continues.
17:19And if that rages on, you'll hear the crowd react again.
17:23Sometimes when you have two counterpunchers, it can be a boring fight because both are looking to work off the other's lead.
17:31Lushing's trainer, Colin Smith, called us yesterday.
17:33Trinidad has had hand-picked opponents, beginning with Maurice Blocker.
17:37He was really down on the opponent.
17:39Yeah, well, Yuri Boyd wasn't, wasn't that?
17:41Well, a bad opponent.
17:42Overcar wasn't a bad opponent.
17:45Listen, he fought some tough, tough guys, all of them number one.
17:48A series of number ones.
17:50Yeah, that's, that rap can't be given to Trinidad.
17:52He said that all of the fighters that put Trinidad down don't punch as hard as his man, Kevin Lushing.
17:58We'll find out.
17:59Nobody punches as hard as Yuri Boyd Kaplan.
18:01Look out, a straight left hand by Lushing, and down goes Trinidad!
18:05He said the best punch was a left hook, and it was a left hook.
18:08He got Trinidad hurt.
18:09Five!
18:10That's the fourth time he's gone down in his career, and every time it's round two.
18:19The left hand by Kevin Lushing stuns Trinidad and is proud.
18:24Is it a wake-up call, or are we in the midst of another crazy upset?
18:28Surprise, surprise of nights.
18:31This is a night of surprises.
18:33Well, I'll tell you what.
18:34Usually when somebody knocks Trinidad down, then he's got him right where he wants him again.
18:37Yep.
18:38He usually gets up in a furious fashion.
18:40That's exactly right.
18:41But he's not too furious right now.
18:43He's still cautious.
18:44This is the fourth time this has happened all in round two in the career of Felix Trinidad.
18:49Of course, he's come back to win them all.
18:52Well, he certainly has an attack like he usually does.
18:54I mean, he is, maybe he's hearing some ringing in his ears that he didn't hear before, because
18:59he really got hammered good.
19:00What I was talking about earlier, a young fighter who faces a sharp counterpuncher can really
19:04devastate him, especially morally.
19:06Yeah, he can just demoralize him because he throws a punch, misses, and finds himself
19:10on the floor.
19:11That's a hell of a way to wake up.
19:12Yeah.
19:13That's a wake-up call, Bobby.
19:14We talk and talk and talk about the questionable chin of Trinidad, and it happens again.
19:19He goes down to 108 in round two.
19:22But he gets up, and he's stalking the other guy.
19:24You see, that's the thing about Trinidad.
19:26He got knocked down.
19:27He got up silly, and the other guy goes to retreat.
19:30You know what, though?
19:31It's a quiet stalking.
19:32He's afraid to let the punches fly too easily because he's being countered well.
19:37Yep, you got that right.
19:38I'll tell you, Lushing knows how to use the ring, too.
19:40He moves around a lot.
19:41Both fighters know how to make other fighters pay for mistakes.
19:47We'll see how this one continues on.
19:49Final seconds, round two.
19:53A knockdown for Ketelouching in the second.
20:05He said, that's only once.
20:07How are you?
20:07You feeling all right?
20:08Yes.
20:09He said, it doesn't feel bad at all.
20:10Now we know he hits.
20:14We know he hits.
20:16Now let's see how he takes your front.
20:18Are you all right?
20:19No.
20:22All right, let's take a good look at that.
20:23Let's see what we're talking about.
20:25This is the counterpart that Bobby was saying is, oh, that is a devastating hook.
20:30Didn't go right down, but he did.
20:34Bobby, you take a second look.
20:35You'll see he comes in.
20:36What he does, backs up the ropes, looking for the counter left hook.
20:39Bang, he lands it clean on the chin.
20:41He's off balance.
20:42He pushed him back with a combination of left and a right.
20:44Combination of balance and punching with the knockdown.
20:47But the first left hook was the key.
20:55Well, this is the round.
20:56Trinidad said it ended.
20:57Round three.
20:58He was put on the canvas with a short, crisp left hook to the jaw in round two.
21:03He was almost short by one round.
21:05Only he would have ended it.
21:0716 of Lushing's, 19 wins by way of knockout.
21:14Well, you know, this reinforces what I always say.
21:16Beware these easy nights.
21:17I mean, the worst thing in the world is when somebody says, it's a bunch of easy fights.
21:21Oh, yeah?
21:21There's no such thing.
21:22Oh, yeah.
21:23You don't turn out that way, but the way you prepare is like they're all going to be worse.
21:26Yes, indeed.
21:27Frankie Randall finds out moments ago, and Kevin Lushing trying to do the same thing to Trinidad.
21:33Lushing, 19-1 with 16 knockouts.
21:35His first world title shot.
21:3711th defense for Trinidad.
21:41Now Trinidad stepping up that killer attack.
21:44He wants to get some hurt on this guy and see how he feels.
21:48Speed is his thing.
21:49He's in the bank and he's fast.
21:51Oh, you know what?
21:52That left hook just missed past Trinidad's face very quickly again.
21:56He is leery of that left hook count.
21:58And well, he should be.
22:00Lushing with no world championship picks.
22:03He's got some good experience.
22:04Looking very sharp here.
22:06Looking very confident.
22:07No common opponents with Trinidad.
22:14Trinidad seems to be composed now and stalking Lushing.
22:18Oh, he's taking.
22:19There it is.
22:21The left hook to the body, then to the head, just as we advertise.
22:25And Lushing is down.
22:261.25 the time.
22:27And he's a bad shot.
22:28His legs aren't totally on him, Steve.
22:30He's got some problems now.
22:32He had better hold on for dear life.
22:35And a long way to go in round three as Trinidad lets to finish Lushing off.
22:41Well, that was prophetic in a corner.
22:42He said he felt your punch.
22:43Let's see what happens when he gets your punch.
22:46Trinidad on the attack.
22:49Looking to end it, as he predicted in the third round.
22:53That left hook just missed by Trinidad.
22:55Raised the head of Lushing.
22:57Straight right to the offense by Trinidad.
23:04Lushing the hunter.
23:05He's stalking.
23:06He's looking for one good right hand, and he's going to land some more later.
23:09He watched Trinidad.
23:10He's going to do it again.
23:11He's going to go down to the body and come up.
23:12There he goes.
23:12And remember, Trinidad, an excellent finisher when he gets somebody in trouble.
23:19He'll have to do it in the final 35 seconds of round three.
23:23Straight right hand on the chin of Lushing.
23:26Lushing's still up.
23:27Not steady.
23:27Still not steady.
23:28Back comes Lushing with some effective left hooks.
23:32He landed a couple of clean shots in here.
23:34Scott Felix's attention.
23:35And Lushing goes Lushing for the second time in the round.
23:39Three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
23:46He gets up on seven.
23:48There's no three knockdown rule.
23:51IVF fight.
23:52Four seconds to go in the round.
23:54Oh, a straight right down he goes.
23:57They're stopping the fight.
23:59Yep, it's over.
24:00It's over.
24:01And just for the record, the belt can't save a fighter in any round.
24:04And Felix Trinidad.
24:05Predicts the outcome round three after he was on the canvas in round two.
24:12What a fighter is Trinidad.
24:17The terrific finisher, Felix Trinidad, does it again.
24:22Coming off the canvas in the second round for the fourth time in his career.
24:27To beat Kevin Lushing of England.
24:33Felix Tito Trinidad.
24:36Well, he continues to do the same process on several occasions.
24:41You know, he just outgunned Lushing.
24:43He had too much form, too much in durability, too much in speed and overall skill.
24:47But Lushing fought a very good fight.
24:49He put the game plan together.
24:51And he saw the counter left hook was going to work.
24:53It worked.
24:54But again, he's a guy with a great chin.
24:55He's a fighter.
24:56He's a champion.
24:57A man that will get off the floor and hurt you if he can.
24:592.59 round three, unofficially.
25:05We're going to take a look at the knockdowns.
25:07And I certainly think the first one was the most devastating.
25:09You'll see Lushing's back hair ropes.
25:11Trinidad works into the body and then turns up with a left hook to the head
25:14and catches Lushing right there in the ear and jaw.
25:18And it was a clean shot.
25:20I don't think you saw it coming right around there.
25:22This was the one I think that did the serious damage that lasted throughout the rest of the round.
25:26The rest became sort of follow-up measure.
25:29Here comes the second knockdown.
25:31Another good clean shot.
25:33Once again, Trinidad has his back on the ropes.
25:34He's working inside, under and over.
25:36And you'll see over here, he throws a right-hand left hook, too.
25:40He has all the tools.
25:41There's the right hand and there's the uppercut.
25:43And that uppercut stood him up and dropped him.
25:49And lastly, with just seconds left before the bell,
25:52Trinidad seeing the kill, sensing the kill, comes in to close the show.
25:55Straight right hand.
25:57And for all intents and purposes, Lushing is out.
26:01And the crowd was reacting on the big screen as they show that knockdown.
26:04And that knockout.
26:07Kevin Lushing going down hard on his back.
26:11Lushing down 125 and then 243 of round three.
26:14It stopped at 259.
26:16Trinidad down at 108 in round two.
26:18His 11th defense of the IBF welterweight title.
26:21Remaining undefeated at 31-0 with 28 knockouts.
26:27Goes back to Puerto Rico with the belt again.
26:31Yeah, we want it.
26:32We want it.
26:32Let's get the official time from Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
26:43Check.
26:44Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of two minutes, 59 seconds of round number three.
26:50Our referee in charge, Denny Nelson, stops the contest.
26:53The winner by way of technical knockout, still undefeated.
26:57Still the IBF welterweight champion of the world, Felix.
27:02Tito Trinidad.
27:08Felix Trinidad.
27:10Trinidad Norris becoming more imminent.
27:14His dream fight, he says, is with Whitaker.
27:16Fighting Sweet Pea in theory is one thing, getting a signed contract, another.
27:22Ike Korte, another possibility.
27:25Terrific fighter from Ghana.
27:27So we've reached the final plateau.
27:29Fight number five.
27:30Up here next at the Nashville Arena, the IBF and WBC 154-pound championship.
27:35Terrible Terry Norris defending his titles against Nick Rupa.
27:39Norris versus Rupa coming up after post-fight reaction from our previous bout.
27:45And for that, we go to the fight.
27:47Dr. Ferdi Pacheco standing by in the ring.
27:52Campeon, este knockdown, what te pasó?
27:55What happened in that knockdown?
27:56Bueno, si, este, antes que nada.
27:58Nosotros sabíamos que él era un boxeador de pegada.
28:01Me, me, me colocó en golpe y yo te vieron, me tumbó, pero como todas mis peras que me han tumbado,
28:06gracias a Dios, mi condición, he parado y...
28:08He knew he was a counter-puncher.
28:10It was a hard hit.
28:11He did feel it.
28:12He went down, but like always, he gets up and attacks.
28:14He doesn't see that that's anything different.
28:46Y, I said, was that pain or was that surprise?
28:49And he said it was both because he hit me with a left hook and I went down.
28:52It hurt and I went down.
28:53We will now try...
28:55Vamos a tratar de enseñarte tu knockdown cuando llegamos a ese punto.
28:59¿Tú pensaba que tenías cualquier problema con él después que te levantaste?
29:02Did you think you'd have any problem with him after you got up?
29:04Yo estaba bien tranquilo y bien seguro de que yo iba a ganar y iba a ganar por un knockout.
29:09Me ha pasado en varias peleas y estaba bien tranquilo.
29:11All right.
29:12He was...
29:12Este es el final de la pelea.
29:14He was confident that he was going to win once he got up.
29:16He didn't worry about that.
29:17He thought that was...
29:17And here...
29:18Aquí es el final de la pelea.
29:24So I've hit him with a left hook.
29:28Right hand, put him down.
29:30And then the bell's on.
29:32¿Tú creía que se iba a levantar?
29:33Did you think he was getting up?
29:34No, yo estaba bien difícil que se levantara.
29:36No, he wasn't going to get up.
29:38It was all over.
29:39¿Tú crees que necesitaba el tercer knockdown porque en el segundo parecía bastante?
29:42Do you think he needed the third knockdown?
29:44Sí, bueno, el hábito podía tener la pelea, pero el hábito hay que decidir ahí.
29:47Yeah, he said the referee could have decided to stop it on the second round,
29:50but he's the one that decides.
29:51If he says three, then we'll knock him down three times.
29:58This...
29:58Pandoname.
29:59What I was referring to was he had two knockdowns and then he knocked out,
30:03whereas he just had the knockdowns.
30:16All right, he was sure that he was going to win.
30:34Pero...
30:35Right now, that's a definite match if Terry Norris get by Nick Rupert.
30:42But as the night is going, everything is happening here in electrifying fashion.
30:46We don't know who's the winner until the fat lady sings.
30:48I don't think I need to translate that into Spanish.
30:50So I'm going to go back to Steve and Bobby Chese.
30:53Y buena suerte, campeón.
30:54Muchas gracias.
30:55All right, Ferdy, thanks very much.
