00:00Steve, I'll tell you, I feel like I went 10 heats there.
00:03What a way to get started.
00:05I got blood on. I think you did. I know Jay did.
00:07We got a little blood from the fight as we were right in the middle of it.
00:10But we know this series is a whole throwback,
00:11and we really personified that.
00:13What a start. Johnny Molnar electrifying in his one-sided victory over Victor Rosado.
00:19So that's the first bout, but we're not done yet.
00:21The main event is coming up, and this one fascinating,
00:24simply because, as we've said, somebody's got to go.
00:26Martin O'Malley, 17-0.
00:28How many times do you see two guys, 17-0, with unblemished records, go at it at this stage?
00:33Still maybe a year or more away from a title shot.
00:35You know, when you take a risk like these guys are taking,
00:38well, the reward is all the greater.
00:39So whoever wins this fight will be viewed as a legitimate fringe contender, a top-20 guy.
00:46And I think O'Malley is taking a bigger jump up in class than Doran is
00:50because Doran, well, two bronze medals in the Olympics.
00:53How many guys win two Olympic medals?
00:55That's incredible by itself.
00:56But Doran's faced a few more fighters with winning records than O'Malley has,
01:00and I think O'Malley's taking a bigger jump.
01:02But he's the bigger puncher, so maybe that'll be the equalizer.
01:04Well, we know he's the taller guy.
01:06We'll talk about that a little bit later.
01:07But it is an interesting thing you mentioned, Leonard Doran,
01:10definitely playing catch-up as we look at him here.
01:13He's 31 years old.
01:15He didn't turn pro until two and a half years ago.
01:17He told us at the fighters' meeting, Steve,
01:19he didn't think professional fighters made any money.
01:22When he was living in Romania and boxing for the Romanian team,
01:25people told him, no, pros don't get paid.
01:27Then when he moved to Montreal, he found out it was a different story,
01:29and he hasn't stopped since.
01:31Exactly.
01:32So he's 17-0 with six knockouts,
01:35which may suggest this is not a guy with a big punch.
01:39But we've got to go behind the numbers here, Steve.
01:42Yeah, he's a pressure fighter, Leonard Doran.
01:44Experience galore.
01:46Besides the two Olympic gold medals, 154 amateur bouts,
01:49he didn't turn pro until the age of 28.
01:51He has a big experience edge.
01:52In terms of going the distance, well,
01:56117 rounds professionally for Leo Doran.
01:59It's only 57 for O'Malley.
02:01And he's been 10 rounds or more five times.
02:04Dangerous late?
02:05Well, Leonard Doran is a pressure fighter, Nick.
02:07He is, in this fight especially,
02:09going to be doing his best work rounds 6 through 10.
02:12Well, Martin O'Malley wanted to tell us
02:14and made sure that he doesn't have to just try to power this guy
02:18and blast him and vaporize him out as we look at O'Malley.
02:21But his knockout performance as an amateur was staggering.
02:25His record, we'll get into that a little bit more.
02:27But behind the numbers, as we look at him, also 17-0.
02:30What do they reveal, Steve?
02:31Well, Martin O'Malley is the puncher in this fight.
02:33As a result, he hasn't gotten that many rounds as a pro.
02:36He's usually happy to take a guy out early,
02:38even though his best punch is a left hook to the body,
02:40which tends to wear guys out.
02:42He goes for the quick knockout right away.
02:44He's fought limited rounds as a professional.
02:46Today, he will try to go 10 rounds for the first time.
02:48He says he's not concerned,
02:50but you have to wonder if there's always a little doubt
02:52in the back of his mind.
02:53Well, once again, both of these fighters in their last couple of fights
02:57haven't knocked out people
02:58because the tougher the competition gets,
03:01it's no slam dunk anymore.
03:02Exactly.
03:03It's just run through them.
03:04And the last item there, O'Malley stepping up in class.
03:06Big jump for him, as I said, Doran.
03:08A lot more experienced.
03:09Okay.
03:10We're just about ready to go.
03:14Martin O'Malley out of Edmonds, Washington,
03:16now fighting out of the New York City area.
03:18Leonard Doran, originally from Romania, lives in Montreal.
03:23All but two of his professional fights have been in Canada,
03:26but he's trying to do some serious work south of the border here
03:29as we go to Amy Hayes to get us going.
03:35Ladies and gentlemen,
03:36it's now time for the main event of the evening,
03:40live from Valleys Park Place in Atlantic City, New Jersey,
03:44brought to you by Main Events and Showtime.
03:47Your judges for this bout will be
03:49George Colon, Joe Pasquale, and Al DeVito.
03:53Your referee and man in charge will be Tony Orlando.
03:58This bout is scheduled for 10 rounds
04:00in the Lightweight Division.
04:03And now, introducing to you first,
04:06fighting out of the blue corner,
04:09wearing the gold and black trunks,
04:11weighing in at 137 pounds,
04:14with a record of 17 wins,
04:17no losses,
04:18six wins by way of knockout,
04:20originally from Castana, Romania.
04:23He now fights out of Montreal, Canada.
04:26Please welcome Leo the Lion,
04:30Doreen!
04:37And his opponent,
04:38fighting to my left,
04:40out of the red corner,
04:42wearing the white trunks and green trim,
04:46weighing in at 138 pounds,
04:49with a record of 17 wins,
04:51no losses,
04:52with 14 wins coming by way of knockout.
04:55Please welcome from Yonkers,
04:58New York,
05:01Martin Ormeli!
05:12Okay, gentlemen,
05:13you received my instructions in your corner,
05:15therefore I expect a clean, professional fight.
05:16I want you to touch gloves
05:17and go back to your corner.
05:28And Taylor the tape, Steve.
05:30Well, there's only really one number that matters,
05:32seven-inch reach advantage for Martin Ormeli.
05:35He's a tall, lightweight.
05:36Doreen is a short, lightweight.
05:38That's the key here.
05:39Can Ormeli keep the fight at a distance?
05:41And as we go to the rules,
05:43they're the same.
05:44Ten-point must system.
05:45Three judges score the fight.
05:46No standing eight count.
05:47No three knockdown rule.
05:49Only the referee can stop the fight.
05:51And you can't be saved by the bell in any round
05:54as Tony Orlando is ready to get us going.
06:00Steve, thing I love about this,
06:02nobody gets off.
06:03Show boxes, non-stop action.
06:05Even a referee doesn't get a breather.
06:06Tony Orlando back in the ring.
06:08He's doing double duty.
06:09I think someone didn't show up.
06:10Great first fight.
06:11Let's hope the second one's as good.
06:12And here we see, as you said,
06:14can Ormeli keep him off with that jab?
06:16He certainly has the range,
06:17using it as a range finder.
06:20And that's what he wants to do.
06:21It's all about being in position to land
06:23and keep his distance, is what he told us.
06:25And that's what Ormeli's trying to do now
06:27as Leonard Doren,
06:28Doreen has to come forever forward.
06:32Doren and Gold has to make this an inside fight
06:35and violate Martin Ormeli's space.
06:45Doren goes down to below five-foot level
06:47when he bobs, doesn't he?
06:48And weaves.
06:49That Pernell-Whitaker dip.
06:51O'Malley cracks with two hooks to the body.
06:56Nick, for the first minute of the first fight,
06:59of the first round, excuse me,
07:01O'Malley is fighting the right kind of fight.
07:03Let's see if he can keep doing it the rest of the way.
07:05Doren healed his toe, stalking with intent,
07:08the only way he knows how to go.
07:11But his trainer, Stephon LaRouche,
07:13wants Doreen to be more creative
07:15with his punches and his punch selection.
07:19And she tries a left there,
07:20winging a shot to O'Malley's head.
07:23O'Malley content to counter.
07:24His hand is low, though, his left hand.
07:26That's a problem for O'Malley.
07:28He foxes best when his hands are high.
07:29When he gets a little sloppy and cocky,
07:31drops that left hand.
07:34Steve, how seriously committed have you seen
07:36Martin O'Malley be to his jab in prior fights?
07:40One of the fights I called previously
07:42that he had in New York,
07:43he realized early on he couldn't knock the guy out,
07:45so he went to the jab,
07:47the occasional left hook to the body,
07:48but he really dominated with his jab.
07:50So he can do that, and he needs to tonight.
07:53Very wide stance by Martin O'Malley.
07:55He's in the white.
07:56Keep that hanging.
07:58And Doreen's trying to make this
08:01a five-by-five ring if he can.
08:05O'Malley missing with a left there.
08:09Doreen picking off shots with his gloves,
08:11lunging forward, trying to score.
08:14O'Malley content to jab,
08:16and now hook off that jab twice.
08:19Nice three-punch combination
08:20by Martin O'Malley and White.
08:23Doreen tries a right,
08:24and the left sails wide.
08:28Doreen almost jumping into his punches, Steve.
08:32The thing about Doreen,
08:33even if O'Malley has these rallies,
08:35he has to do it for 10 rounds,
08:36because Doreen is consistent, if nothing else.
08:38He will be there just like he is now
08:40for 30 minutes.
08:41Looks like Doreen scoring with the left hook
08:44here to the head of Martin O'Malley.
08:46Doreen on the goal, tries to lead right.
08:53O'Malley content, trying to keep his distance.
08:57Drives a left to the body of Leo Dane.
09:05And heavy action in the first round.
09:07Very solid, Steve.
09:08Put you on the spot.
09:09How'd you have that one?
09:10I gave it to Marty O'Malley.
09:12I think he threw the better combinations.
09:13It was a very close round.
09:14The only thing I didn't see from O'Malley
09:16were hooks to the body,
09:17which is his best punch.
09:20This is what Martin O'Malley told us
09:21after the fighters' meetings yesterday,
09:23what he was going to try to accomplish
09:25in this fight.
09:28I can be effective with Doreen
09:30by keeping him at the end of my punches.
09:32And by doing that,
09:35I'm able to land shots on him,
09:38and he can't on me,
09:38because I've got the longer reach.
09:40So it's just common mathematics.
09:42So it's basically,
09:43it's up to me to keep him at the end of my punches.
09:47As we take a look at Martin O'Malley now,
09:50pretty relaxed there after one round.
09:54And how's it working so far, Steve?
09:56The strategy he talked about.
09:58Pretty good.
09:59It's really, it's his best bet
10:00because he takes away Doreen's strength
10:02by keeping his distance.
10:03O'Malley to stay away.
10:05Doreen content to jump.
10:09Try to pounce here.
10:11Try to overcome that five-inch height advantage
10:13and definite reach advantage.
10:15Disadvantage, I should say.
10:16Both counts.
10:18Interesting little item here.
10:20Doreen and O'Malley using different brand of gloves.
10:24Doreen...
10:28With the Grants.
10:29Oh, they're wearing the Grants.
10:30They're wearing different gloves
10:30from the last fight,
10:31is what I meant to say.
10:33Molnar and Rosado use Reyes gloves
10:34and Doreen and O'Malley using Grant gloves.
10:37A lot more leeway these days
10:38in picking your gloves.
10:39Doreen there with a nice
10:40left-right combination to the head.
10:42He started with,
10:44about 10 seconds ago,
10:45with a very sharp left hook.
10:47Scoring there with a right
10:49as O'Malley picks it off with his gloves,
10:51but he had to phase him, Steve.
10:52Yeah, he's hurt.
10:53He was hurt by that right hand.
10:55We'll see how badly hurt
10:56in the next few seconds here.
10:57Let's go.
10:58I just told you.
10:59Okay, sorry.
10:59No leeway.
11:01And referee warning Martin O'Malley
11:02not to push down on Doreen's neck.
11:06But what does he do to discourage him, Steve?
11:08Is the jab doing enough?
11:11Well, Doreen is pretty wise
11:12with all of his shots.
11:13One of the things O'Malley can try to do
11:15is punch inside.
11:16He just went up the middle there.
11:17Exactly.
11:17That's what he has to do.
11:18Come on.
11:19Let's not do it.
11:22Come on.
11:24Let's not do it.
11:28Man, there's very little, again,
11:29in the way of feeling out process.
11:31You know how these first early rounds,
11:32how dangerous they are,
11:34seeing how a guy moves,
11:35seeing what a guy has.
11:37What kind of power is Doreen showing you?
11:40He's kind of a clubbing puncher.
11:42His punches aren't straight,
11:43so that takes away a little bit of power right there.
11:45But he windows them,
11:46and he really throws them hard.
11:47And he's landing there.
11:49Yeah, he just has to get close enough.
11:50There's a welt under his eye,
11:52under Doreen's eye.
11:53Pardon me, Steve.
11:54Under his right eye.
11:55It looks like one above his right eye also.
12:01That would be...
12:02Oh, and a left just rocks O'Malley.
12:05I don't know what O'Malley's complaining about.
12:07I don't know, but...
12:08Get back, get back, get back.
12:09Doran pounces.
12:13Doran with the overhand right.
12:14Let's see if he can fight,
12:15contain himself,
12:17and fight under control.
12:18And he's bleeding now
12:19from that welt underneath his right eye, Doran.
12:21There's another solid left
12:23that dazes O'Malley here,
12:25and he is in deep running here
12:27against the ropes.
12:28Getting out, pumps badly
12:30as the referee looks.
12:31He gets ready to see if O'Malley can fight back.
12:34No standing end count.
12:37Leo Thorne raining a tornado float
12:39nonstop.
12:41O'Malley shakes his head.
12:42He's got 20 seconds to get out
12:44of round two
12:44and keep this fight alive
12:46and his dreams of staying undefeated.
12:48And Doran may be going for it
12:50because of the cut.
12:53O'Malley backing up
12:54and just trying to hold on.
12:56Takes another overhand right.
12:58Less than 10 seconds.
13:00Will he make it?
13:01Doran up the middle there
13:02with some shots
13:02as we go to the end
13:04of a hellacious round two
13:07for Leonard Doran.
13:14I know, I know, but you can't complain.
13:16There ain't no sense to complain.
13:17He ain't gonna help you out.
13:18Let him do your face.
13:19Let's do my stuff anymore.
13:21Listen, what you gotta do
13:23is you gotta use it.
13:24Double the jab and move.
13:26Nick, I think the reason
13:28Doran has such success
13:29with these punches,
13:31O'Malley drops his gloves.
13:33And he's already hurt here.
13:40Later in the round,
13:41he gets rocked again.
13:46Frozen with that left, didn't he?
13:47Yeah, that's some left took
13:48and again O'Malley's right glove,
13:49which he tries to keep up,
13:51but it was low.
13:52Low enough for him to get hit.
13:53And then Doran really exploded.
13:55Probably tasted his own blood
13:56and realized, hey,
13:57it wouldn't be a bad idea
13:58for me to get a TKO win right now
14:00and not risk anything.
14:01O'Malley's trainer,
14:02James Thornwell,
14:03urged him between rounds
14:04double up on that jab.
14:06In other words,
14:07keep your distance
14:07and try to string him out.
14:09And that was the strategy going in,
14:11but it hasn't worked out that way
14:12for Martin O'Malley and White.
14:14Stay off the head,
14:15both of you now.
14:16Stay off the heads.
14:18O'Malley backing up right now
14:19as Doran continues to stalk.
14:22His gloves are up.
14:24All right, we got left here.
14:24Let's go.
14:25Break!
14:25Break!
14:25Step back, come on.
14:27Let's go.
14:27Regarding Doran's cut, Nick,
14:28usually a cut under the eye.
14:30There's not a danger
14:31of the blood, obviously,
14:33but very often a cut under the eye
14:34will create a lot of swelling.
14:36And that's what we have
14:37to keep an eye out for.
14:38No pun intended.
14:39Well, there's no doubt
14:40that Doran takes a lot of punishment,
14:42absorbs a lot of shots,
14:43and defense isn't always
14:44a strong suit,
14:45but he's picking off
14:46Martin O'Malley's jab there
14:47and some of those wild left hooks
14:49nicely in this round.
14:51Break!
14:52Step back, step back.
14:53One thing about Doran,
14:54his gloves are very,
14:55very rarely down.
14:56He keeps them up.
14:57That's why he's not getting hit
14:58with sucker shots
14:59the way Martin O'Malley is.
15:01Come on, Martin.
15:01You gotta keep that left hand
15:02with his leg.
15:02Let's go.
15:08O'Malley getting beat
15:09to the punch here, Steve.
15:13There's the straight right lead
15:15by O'Malley.
15:16Back comes Doran
15:17into the body
15:18with a left hook.
15:19Double hook by O'Malley.
15:22Wild miss by Doran.
15:27Under Doran
15:28and the gold.
15:29Martin O'Malley's in white.
15:31They're both undefeated
15:32lightweights.
15:33Clashing at 17-0.
15:35Watching the first three rounds,
15:36if you were asked
15:37who the harder puncher is,
15:38you'd probably say Doran.
15:40Despite the lower knockout percentage,
15:41it's not what we thought
15:42going in.
15:43Well, Martin O'Malley told us,
15:44you know, he's a solid puncher.
15:46He's not a cream puff puncher,
15:48but just based on what he saw,
15:50he thought he didn't have
15:51knockout power in Leo Doran,
15:53but you don't know
15:53until you're in there with him.
15:54He's finding out now.
15:59Got a minute to go in round three
16:01as they flurry
16:02in the middle of the ring.
16:05Great comeback round
16:06for Martin O'Malley.
16:07He may not win the round,
16:08but he's hurt there again
16:10by a right hand,
16:10but he's doing a good job
16:11using his legs.
16:12O'Malley just keeps coming forward.
16:16O'Malley digging to the body
16:18and then upstairs
16:19with the left hook.
16:20O'Malley ducks under a hook.
16:25Tony Orlando getting a workout here,
16:27the referee, Steve.
16:28There's no doubt about it
16:28here at Showbox.
16:30You've got heavy action so far
16:32with very little coasting
16:34in either fight.
16:38O'Malley got heavy action so close the floor.
16:39O'Malley just keeps coming forward.
16:41Okay, let's go.
16:47Leo Doran, the left,
16:50peppering that left in,
16:51O'Malley not firing now
16:53as he's taking shots.
17:01as he goes to show on round three

18:03city then but now it's a hot fight here in atlantic city leo doran and the gold having his way
18:10with
18:10martin o'malley as we go to the fourth round both are unbeaten steve but
18:17doran just keeps coming so far doran just seems physically stronger fighter
18:23as compact as he is maybe that's not surprising
18:32um
18:32beat to the punch here too
18:36what's happened to o'malley's jab stop stop come on come on let me go let me go
18:45doran told us that so many people who face him and take a look at him think they're stronger than
18:49him
18:50steve he's convinced them otherwise through his entire professional career and so far he's doing
18:56the same against martin o'malley he's even out jabbing o'malley right now and that's a punch that
19:01doran didn't even throw as an amateur because uh of his size
19:07he's landing there there it is
19:10it's not a good sign for o'malley if he gets out jabbed he really has no chance
19:13doren forever forward here winging shots and scoring
19:20slips his punches there now he's back in business turning on the juice
19:28steve one speed with this guy he doesn't take a round off does he he better be in prime condition
19:33if you're going to survive for sure we saw some tapes where he was in just brutal back and forth
19:38type
19:39fights for 10 rounds one of them with gary st claire and he just he brings it every round he
19:44has to
19:44he can't take a round off as short as he is because he just be steered from the outside how
19:48much how
19:49much is his pace taken out of o'malley just looking at his face and his legs well that one round
19:53i guess
19:53it was the second round which he could have scored 10 8 for doreen uh that round really set o'malley
19:59back
20:00he's looking better now but i don't know if he's doing enough to win the round
20:02hold hold hold hold the range seems inexhaustible
20:12yeah he's a o'malley's been pushing down on dorian's head a lot and the referee's about
20:17ready to take a point away i'd say judging by what he's how he's been warning him
20:25again dorian beating o'malley to the punch far busier scores with the overhand right there off the
20:31combination now they're in close
20:40o'malley trying to find his rhythm get the jab working he's going to the body with these lead left
20:46hooks combination for o'malley and the white there tough to tough to land to dorian's body
20:56because there's so little body to land against he is a very compact target and a busy one as he
21:02throws out round two
21:16we hope you're enjoying this free preview weekend of showtime and by calling 1 888 showtime you can

21:28proxy get in on all the fun at ringside here on showtime call now
21:37see referee tony orlando went over to o'malley's corner gave him a formal warning for pushing down
21:42on dorian's neck
21:46old muhammad ali trick we watch o'malley in the corner here and he has taken some heavy breaths
21:53chuck bodak working on some things that look more like
21:56i don't know if they're cuts or not but it's discolorations anyway martin o'malley looks
22:01bruised and somewhat battered here as we start round five here comes leo doran
22:13walk the heads let's go
22:39steve duren with so much determination told us what he loves about fighting is the discipline and the
22:44pain and what it takes to get ready this is a guy who's been a gym rap from start to
22:49finish and just
22:50you got to drag him out of there and he looks ready tonight he does and he hasn't fought in
22:54six months
22:54which uh surprises me he's this sharp
23:00watching his assault again
23:03as you said steve appearing obviously to be the stronger guy martin o'malley in the white
23:08trying to put something together and make it happen
23:12his left hand seems to have lost a little bit of impact
23:17not a bad idea o'malley instead of leading with the jab leading with a left uppercut or left hook
23:22he's worked a couple of times this round for us maybe to catch doran leaping in
23:32leonard durene can't get it done from outside he knows that at five floors with a 64-inch reach
23:37come on let him go get back get back out come on so far he's been able to walk down
23:42martin o'malley
23:46now it looks like he could be cut off the side of the left eye
23:52yeah he's all marked up but so is the rings but there hasn't been any serious blood yet
23:58digging to the body again with two left hooks crisp shots that land
24:07o'malley looking at warrants dave those body shots take it out of you i'll tell you who else
24:12is wearing him down tony orlando he's warning him about every 10 seconds for something
24:22o'malley's so wide with his stance it looks like he's going down to doraine's height
24:25rather than punching down maybe on him with the jab
24:30the wider the stance you can get better balance that way but it costs you in punching power
24:35keep that hand here
24:46slowing a little bit but under dorian content
24:51to keep piling up the points
24:57good to see o'malley try a combination although the left hand straight low punches up
25:03the right hand side okay steve we're through five let's go to tim smith with a special guest here
25:09at valleys in atlantic city tim thanks thanks nick we're with a future star and a guy who's going to
25:15be on show box the next generation you'll be in the ring doing what these guys are but for right
25:19now
25:19you've been on something of a summer break with your with your hand injury tell us how that injury's
25:23coming along oh it's coming along fine i feel 100 that i'll be back in the ring on
25:28first on september 1st on showtime making my comeback now has the injury stalled your progress
25:34at all i mean has it hindered you well it it stalled me a little bit because i was in
25:40the
25:40i was in the groove of everything you know the hype and everything but you know everything happens for
25:45a reason i just take it as in and take it and go on so you've been lying on the
25:49beach basically is
25:50what you're telling me basically lying on the beach and uh just relaxing enjoying the time off watching
25:56showtime okay so september 1st look for this guy he's one of the future stars nick thanks tim and
26:01right now jeff lacy is looking at uh leo durin put on a clinic steve how do you have this
26:06fight
26:06halfway stop stop stop i have leo the lion up front all right let's go 49 46 three-point lead
26:12and remember
26:13at the open i suggested that the second half of the fight would be during the train
26:18come on i walked ahead so o'malley in a little bit of trouble here step back out come on back
26:21out back
26:24keep your head up
26:32there's that jab now by o'malley showing it he's got to try to time it as durin comes in
26:37but during with the high guard it makes it very difficult to score with that jab if i were o'malley
26:42i'd
26:43just stick my right hand by the side of my chin never use it and just box with that left
26:46jab hook
26:47uppercut they're in content to pick those punches by o'malley off and then get inside and take away
26:55o'malley's punching room oh there's a lead right right they bend against the ropes and they're pulled
27:04apart by tony orlando we're in round six scheduled for ten two unbeaten lightweights
27:10martin o'malley is in the white leo doreen in the gold and black
27:20doreen continues to ring shot steve straight right lands there
27:25now he tries to come on guys let's go doreen into the corner playing around and let's box in here
27:32you understand here comes a doreen will not ease off the pedal a bit steve
27:41why no mali's showing showing a lot more movement this round than at other rounds but
27:45his movement is all to the left which means it can be predictable and dorian can cut the ring off
27:51more easily coming straight in now with bob and weave and trying to be a little elusive but trying to
27:58score with those home run shots and connecting with a solid right to the head of martin o'malley
28:02that moment epitomized the fight o'malley back to the ropes he relaxed for a half a second and he
28:08got hit by a right hand because dorian is so relentless and the knock on dorian is when he
28:15stands around he could be hit but he hasn't stood around to taking a breather at all
28:23combination there landing the rights getting through and doran tries to climb over over
28:28martin o'malley against the ropes i'd like to see a little more body work from dorian he really is a
28:45goal late stages around six oh right to the head by leo dorian scores line again with the right
28:56comes back with the left hook straight right great no punches step back step back
29:05steve how'd you have that round i gave it to dorian um o'malley won the first minute
29:10but then uh leo took the second two minutes pretty strongly
29:24now we see how leo duran is having it his way that was early in the fight that left hook
29:30set the tone
29:31really left hooks have been better than the right hands for doran he's really done most of the serious
29:36scoring so a right hand to the body i'd like to see more to the body by dorian but for
29:41the most part
29:42he's doing enough each round and that was the right hand this past round he's doing enough each round
29:47to win the rounds steve is it because o'malley's not moving his head or is it because he seems to
29:52have some movement there it's just a relentless attack by the other guy dorian just keeps punching
29:57and you're gonna land if you land half the time you're winning the round that's the timing of the
30:02punches dorian's timing his shots beautifully go as we go to round seven on showbox the new generation
30:10leo showbox the new generation leo duran and gold and gold winning this fight
30:16on most people's score cards it seems we're assuming martin o'malley in the white
30:21a knockout artist in the amateurs he had a tremendous record ko'd 32 of 56 amateur opponents
30:28and one of the seven amateur losses was the floyd mayweather come on that was in the golden gloves
30:34uh finals pretty impressive he's also sparred a lot with shane mosley so while dorina's fought the
30:40better competition in real pro fights martin o'malley's not without experience
30:49and martin o'malley strainer james thornwell urging him not to stand around in other words fire that jab
30:56he gets hit with a left counter there though by dorian as he continues to press forward
31:06well right lead by during lands there o'malley looks tired
31:13and discouraged huh james thornwell his trainer saying use the ring martin don't just stand there
31:19great and make it to rent's fight are his legs gone steve i don't think his legs are gone but
31:26he's discouraged you know he has a lot of knockouts and he has a knockout puncher's mentality that's
31:31been eliminated during taking that away and now o'malley's in the uncharacteristic position of
31:36worrying about defense and boxing it's not his specialties that's why he's not winning the fight
31:41well back to the back
31:47o'malley again with a uh eats a left hand and dorian senses his man's in trouble
31:54as he fires a flurry to the body
31:58o'malley with his hands up here trying to land but dorian
32:03continues to press the pace and looks to be far the fresher fighter here in round seven
32:09o'malley dripping blood from the nose now as well so dorian landing
32:16violating martin o'malley space
32:22forging it in the trenches and happy to do it here this is leonard dorian's kind of fight
32:34to show you there's different kinds of strength you don't have to have ko power
32:39but he's definitely leo durian the stronger man in the ring tonight
32:45and bleeding under the right eye is durian now as o'malley fights back with the left
32:51hold it durian pulls him into the ropes come on guys durian scheduled to be a sparring partner
32:57for zap judah who will be preparing for his fight with costa zoo on november 3rd
33:02and that of course on showtime that eagerly anticipated unification fight as we close out round seven
33:23oh now he's cut under both eyes combinations and you stand there you cannot stand there when
33:28you throw your combinations you're gonna step around and you gotta move okay
33:36why is leo dorian landing let's see is o'malley's guard low well when you get punched to the body
33:43you drop your guard
33:46later in the round the right hand and a big left hook that really went around martin o'malley's right
33:52glove precisely steve but again o'malley's gloves were low and the body will do that it'll make you
34:00wince and drop your gloves and take some air out of your balloon and
34:03martin o'malley looks like he's fighting in half throttle now and fighting for his life to keep that
34:09undefeated record intact but he at this point would need a knockout i agree with you nick i think he's
34:15falling further and further behind he's showing a good chin if nothing else he's only been down once
34:21in his career that came in his last fight nine minutes or less to go in this one and according
34:27to most it looks like leonard durin's knight he's in the gold and if you're looking for martin o'malley to
34:34for a one punch sensational come from behind knockout well it'd be great to see but leo durian's never
34:40been down
34:43o'malley scores up the middle there looking to land that left hook though tries the right cross and
34:49misses and o'malley is bleeding above the left eye again let's behave ourselves let's go
34:56swollen up his eyes yeah he's a mess duran a little off balance there but going for those eyes
35:06you're right about the head hunting steve
35:10duran sees how much he's wounded o'malley
35:14off the head stop let him go that eye looks messy in o'malley's left eye
35:21under two minutes to go in round eight
35:27well mali's only chance at this point forget the jabs he's not going to win any rounds by jabbing
35:31his jab's been ineffectual is to make somehow time duran's right hand which is chopping come on
35:37guys time it fire left hook at the right time catch him right on the jaw it's a long shot
35:41but it's
35:41his only chance doran scores with a lead right there loops a right that gets in step back no him
35:49behind the head
35:53and mixes it up again in the middle of the ring holy stop stop step back step back o'malley not
36:00able to
36:00discourage leo duran in the least
36:09now they're getting beat to the punch here there's a left that scores though
36:13valley in the right trunks
36:14step back get back that cut getting worse really pretty grotesque swelling over o'malley's right eye
36:25last thing he needs is to lose some of his vision here be able to see that flurry of punches
36:31coming
36:31from leo duran because the tank looks fairly full still i think uh tony orlando's about ready to call
36:38inside doctor and to look at orlando to look at o'malley's swelling and the cut both
36:52bleeding from the nose now too and his face is a mess yeah the right eye now he's got he's
36:58got a
36:58gargoyle like look to him with the right eye swelling as much as it is those left hooks have
37:03taken their toe by from leo duran let's see what the corner does make in between rounds combination
37:10there again to the head as o'malley staggers back to his corner
37:18you got to stop standing there you stand in there and let the man down come on lean back
37:27come on you gotta you gotta use your combinations to step around and instead of trying to go straight
37:32drop and then when you finish your combination you stand in there move with you and punch you
37:36are you okay yeah he's a good one can you find me okay okay i'm asking you yeah of course
37:41all right
37:42let me check your eye out all right this is just a small cut okay
37:57head's feeling okay so you want to go on he's good he's good what he's good man whatever you do
38:04you're going to blow your nose as martin o'malley gets up and wants to fight on we go to round
38:16nine
38:16he has been a bloody mess chuck bodak cuts man break no stone no punch bandages and the swabs
38:22quickly turned crimson in the corner between rounds chuck bodak a great cut man from l.a came
38:28in to work with o'malley he didn't know what to do first in between rounds the swelling the end
38:31swell to the swelling on the right eye the cut could take a lot longer than a minute and wow
38:37doran rocks o'malley to the left okay yeah the doctor did look at o'malley and uh well you know
38:45fighter do you want to go on what's a fighter gonna say if he's a real fighter o'malley's obviously a
38:50real
38:50fighter what's he gonna say no i don't want to go on i think it's a pointless question you have
38:54to make
38:54the decision based on what you see the medical facts not on whether the fighter wants to fight
38:57anymore although we have seen people say no and we're out of us notably
39:04but that this again personifies i think what this what our series is all about two guys hungry
39:11for exposure and willing to take a shot to get it and in martin o'malley's case a shot or two
39:17or three
39:19that right eye looks horrible yeah o'malley's corner is very brave now you see the fighter's
39:24very brave too but the corner isn't taking the punches the fighter is steve i don't see the point
39:33really oh hold it hold it hold it let him out let him out o'malley still throwing shots of course
39:40it
39:40would be difficult to pull the plug on this one but his face is just swollen beyond belief
39:46he just he hasn't shown the ability to hurt doran or land that many clean shots i know it's easy
39:51for
39:51me to say on the outside maybe they should stop the fight but yeah he's competitive but he's getting beat
39:56every round bursts of firepower from leonard doran major league courage on the part of martin o'malley
40:03and the white but he is being seriously out punched in this one right let's go
40:18inside a minute around nine
40:22yesterday martin o'malley told us losing would be a nightmare you know why nick he's living
40:26that nightmare right now
40:31see that's not pretty but he hasn't stopped fighting
40:41every round the same thing the guy's very consistent how do you beat a guy like this
40:45well you'd have to hurt him or you have to really use your legs and box a lot and really
40:49stay away
40:50when you break that
40:52we thought o'malley had a shot about punching him but not there as he goes down from that garage of
40:58shots
41:09the second click on to close out round eight and we're going to close the show
41:15well if this fight goes another round i'd be surprised at this point i'd also be disappointed
41:19o'malley just got rocked at the end of the movie larry has it called this fight i'm good to go
41:24larry has it called the fight look at me look at me no do not look at me i'm fine
41:27i'm stopping the
41:28fight well too many punches too many punches and a good call i think steve farhood no doubt
41:36hazard was right he climbed up on the ring apron and orlando informed the fighter it was not orlando's
41:40decision o'malley's disappointed but definitely a good call tony orlando the referee said it all
41:45too many punches and how can martin o'malley as disconsolate as he is to have suffered the first
41:51scratch on his resume he has to agree he just absorbed too many blows
41:56yeah we're all here about you live we want to make sure you're okay all right
42:02i want mine don't worry about it no dude no no dude oh come on
42:26fighter's face will tell it all steve sure will the end came at the end of the night
42:30and really o'malley this first knockdown well there's the left hook that set it all up he's
42:34done right here hands down now they're up again but doran just rips through yeah you could have
42:42ruled out a slip you could have ruled out a knockdown didn't really matter but the second knockdown
42:45which comes right at the bell is is much more legitimate o'malley's legs are gone his hands are
42:51low there he gets caught with a one-two and and it's just target practice for doran and i'm glad
42:55o'malley
42:56went down because it definitely convinced hazard that enough was enough as we look at his face and
43:02the horrible swelling above both eyes and now it's target practice no no leo dorian only six
43:09knockouts going into this fight wow tell marty o'malley he can't punch
43:15game so game it's like a fan turned on full blast dave
43:21oh my god and let's go to amy hayes for the officials time when this one ended
43:30ladies and gentlemen referee tony orlando stops the bout at the end of the ninth round
43:35your winner by technical knockout leo the lion dory
43:48steve biggest win for him we saw him beat gary st clare a veteran and looking very good dynamic
43:53electrifying performance in montreal but how does this one stack up for leo doran this is the biggest
43:58win because it's it's on national television it's the start of showbox the new generation and a lot of
44:04people are watching leo doran who never saw him before this guy will get continued work he'll get
44:09continued tv exposure because you know he'll never be in a bad fight once again we see the this was
44:16a
44:16pure action fight as a as the uh fighters congratulate each other and offer condolences and here we see
44:22through nine rounds leo doran according to you at home online scoring won eight of the nine 18 rounds
44:30tonight of non-stop action from valleys in our debut show showbox the new generation not a clinch
44:38not a breather steve man i just feel like i ran a marathon uh two great fights we thought they'd
44:44be
44:44real good action fights going in they were two for two well what a way to give you a little
44:50appetizer
44:51just called 1-888 showtime you can subscribe now and make sure you'll join us for all the ring action
44:58all the excitement excitement for future editions of showbox and showtime championship boxing let's go
45:05to tim smith with the victorious leo doran thanks nick and leo doran was the stronger fighter tonight
45:15at what point did you feel leo that you were going to be able to impose your will on uh
45:19o'malley first of
45:21all i have to thanks from uh showtime for this because put me in this great position and i have
45:27to thanks for many vendors so okay but thank you montreal okay but but in this particular fight when
45:35did you think that you were going to be able to impose your will on him because you look stronger
45:40than
45:40he did i saw that guy and i let him to work because i know him because i'm small i
45:46do that all the time i
45:47the guy to be tired and then i play with him what you saw this night i was very good
45:53physically i was
45:54very good technically and that was the fight martin omele is very good boxer and strong but not enough
46:01for me now you heard him in the second round how did you get to the point where you could
46:05throw the
46:06shots that you wanted to hurt him with hey that's the name of the game that's normal to be hurt
46:10and you have to come back because i know what i do in the gym and i was sure for
46:15what i have to do
46:16how did you take away the height advantage he's five feet taller than you how did you take away
46:20that advantage what i i fought all the time with a guy like him and all the time i was
46:25winner oh five
46:26inches taller i'm sorry did i say five feet uh five inches tall olympic medalist i beat a guy like
46:32him
46:32all the time okay so the height was not a problem for you not a problem i'm i'm a boxer
46:37and i love
46:38that game okay now did you take any inspiration from your stable mate eric lucas winning a world title
46:44oh yes i work with him i work with eric lucas and eric lucas was different than one years ago
46:50because
46:51working hard and put more heart in in in his job he was great in in that show i spar
46:58with him and i feel
46:59a good good very good punch thank you very much leo and congratulations so leo duran moves on he's now
47:08put himself a step closer to being in contention for a lightweight title uh nick well thank you tim with
47:13the victorious leo duran steve right out of the box the lightweight division what does this fight
47:18do for leo duran he's still a ways away but stack him up yeah well he's a ways away from
47:23world
47:23championship but remember this guy's 31 years old he's now had 18 fights this is a big win with a
47:28lot
47:28of exposure he's got a big promotional group behind him in interbox he's definitely a fringe top 10 right
47:34now but in terms again of being a pro just two and a half years at 31 given this division
47:40and the quality
47:40in it and the way he fights just a round ballpark prediction on how far he could go oh he
47:46could go a
47:47long way definitely top 10 the division is not that strong the lightweight division right now
47:52a lot of times guys like dorian who spent so much time in the amateurs they don't beat they don't
47:57become
47:58very good pros he seems to be an exception to the rule yeah he does not bad for a guy
48:02who thought pros
48:02didn't get paid there'll be bigger paydays for leo duran as we see the way he broke down a previously
48:09undefeated martin o'malley steve talk about this fight again specifically yeah o'malley was uh was so
48:15gutty fact of the matter is that up until this point o'malley had 14 knockouts and 17 fights he
48:21brought the the mindset of a puncher early on he found out that dorian was not easy to hit that
48:27his
48:27left hand was not that effective he was getting hit and not hitting in return that changed his whole
48:31mindset when you it's almost a curse when you're a big puncher because when you get into a fight where
48:35your
48:36power is not particularly effective you don't have a plan b and o'malley just simply couldn't
48:41have boxed or who kept coming o'malley thought he could keep him at the end of his jab being the
48:45taller
48:45guy why again we'd have to ask martin o'malley why he wasn't able to move a little bit he knew
48:51that this
48:51guy only had to come forward he knew he had to close the gap but how will a guy discourage
48:56a leo duran
48:56well again i have to say the only way you're going to discourage him is to hurt him early in
49:01a
49:01fight the way you do that is to time his looping shots get inside and throw straight punches or if
49:06you're a real good mover with real good rhythm and a real good jab just run from him and take
49:12the easy
49:12way out and take the points we may not want to see that kind of fight but that's one way
49:15to attack
49:16dorian well again before we let it go with martin o'malley as game as they come but his face was
49:21a
49:22testament that everything that went wrong for him tonight in the in this fight what's his future going to
49:28be steve it's it's going to be tough for martin he has to come back and and you know this
49:32is the kind
49:32of opponent that he's not going to be facing that often he won't be facing many five foot four compact
49:38guys like doran so i'd stay away from this kind of opponent for starters and then uh back to the
49:43drawing board well once again with leo duran fighting in canada we hadn't seen him a lot an explosive debut
49:49here on showbox the new generation would you put him back in the ring soon they say they want to
49:54keep
49:54this guy fighting very often it would not surprise me at all if we see leo durian again on showbox
49:59this
50:00series is about action fighters again because of his lack of height the demean diminutive dorian has
50:06no choice but to attack attack attack he has a good chin he keeps his hands up he's going to
50:10be in
50:11exciting fights all the time we'll see him again i think well recapping a memorable day memorable night
50:16i think here at valleys in atlanta
