02:40I think he's one of the most patient racers in the field.

02:46He's probably got more emotion in this race than he's had in a long time.

03:14Meanwhile, Jett, a huge scrub, gets side by side with his brother.

03:32Yeah, I'm trying to see the orange fenders of the KTM of Sexton if he's back there or not.
03:38So still an opportunity for Hunter to win the overall, even if he doesn't get this moto win.
03:43Because Jett is a non-factor for today.
03:46The penalty for moto one, 17th place finish.

03:52And that's a crucial pass because if Chase didn't go down,
03:55all he would have to do is finish behind Hunter at this moto
03:58and he would get that overall victory as long as he gets around Eli.

04:04So if he did fall, he lost one position.
04:06Then it's shock.
04:07So Sexton is 7th.
04:10And he's got to work his way up to Hunter Lawrence to win the overall.

04:49Probably feels a little bit more comfortable.
04:50That track, that first moto was really sketchy.
04:53Now it's more normal.
04:54Getting a little bit of confidence, Stan, with these two.
05:01And they hook back on up to the Godzilla jump.

05:08But waiting for that outside to work its way in.

05:28I was talking to Lars Lindstrom about Hunter Lawrence.
05:31And why was it that we don't think he's done an overall win yet?
05:35And he said, well, of course, Jett is a big reason, big factor.
05:37He said, the problem is, is they're with each other all the time.
05:40They train together.
05:41They spend so much time together that Hunter can't develop, like, a secret or something
05:46to kind of pull the wool over Jett's head.
05:48Because they're always doing something together.
05:50I asked Lars, I said, is there any chance ever that they would separate and do their own
05:54thing?
05:54And he said, I mean, it's up to them.
05:56But really, it would go against the Lawrence family grain.
05:59They do things together.
06:00That's just how they operate.
06:01And so that might be something that would be standing between Hunters with.
06:06Yeah, they've always said they're racing as a family.
06:08And they're going to be retired racers for a lot longer in their life.
06:13And they're going to be actual racers.
06:15So don't let this stuff get between them now.
06:18Sexton has Hampshire and Prado between himself and that lead group.
06:23Yeah, you would hate to see it.
06:25And there would obviously be issues, just family issues.
06:28Because I think on the racetrack and helping each other, they're making each other better.
06:32So from a strategic standpoint, I wouldn't want them to separate if I'm Honda.
06:37Because they're making each other better every week.
06:39And Hunter, when somebody asked me that question, why can't you beat Jett?
06:43I would be like, well, why can't anybody else beat him?
06:45Because the only person that's ever done it since he's been in 450 motocross is this guy

06:50And that was two.
06:51So he's won everything else.
06:53Hunter's running really good.
06:56Jett's just a talent.
06:57I mean, he's generational.
06:59I want to see what Sexton can do.
07:01We theorized he might have crashed at the top of this hill.

07:06Yeah, see, I thought somebody went down, saw somebody in blue gear, but he was able to

08:18You know, we've seen some ups and downs for sure for Prado.
08:22We've talked about it quite a bit.
08:23This would actually be a fairly solid day.
08:25He's looking at fifth overall.
08:27And this could be some signs of progress for the Spaniard.
08:31The world champ over at MXGP.
08:33See if he can hang in there.

08:35Jorge looks good.
08:36And what did I say before the show?
08:38I said, I think a good track for Jorge today before we even talked.
08:42Very technical.
08:43And as you mentioned, the way the season's been going, it's almost a win for those guys.

08:50And it's hard to measure that because Prado has said his only standard is winning.
08:53Until he's winning, he's not going to be happy.
08:55He's not really looking to, oh, this week I got fifth.
08:58This last week I got sixth.
08:59That's an improvement.
08:59But it is, on paper at least, an improvement.

09:02And I think Jorge understands.
09:04And this isn't necessarily about him.
09:06This is about his team.
09:07This fifth place just shows how much those guys at Kawasaki have been working.
09:10So Jorge's probably riding for those guys at the moment.
09:13He wants to be able to win.
09:14But this will be a big improvement for the Kawasaki team and just showing how much the hard work is paying off.

09:25And Justin Cooper's seventh surrounding Sexton, who is fifth right now.
09:33So if it ends like this, Hunter Lawrence has the overall win.
09:37Sexton needs to make a couple passes because a 1-3 would beat the 2-2 of Lawrence.
09:45And Sexton's there now, challenging Prado.
09:48Yeah, he should have him right here if he goes up the inside.

10:00And he's still fighting him.
10:01You see that KTM just fighting for that traction.
10:04But it puts a lot of pressure on Chase now having that tip over at the beginning because now he can't have another one.

10:11So if he didn't fall, he would have a little bit of wiggle room, be a little bit closer.

10:24And now here comes Sexton.

11:00Well, incredibly, my first thing that comes to mind, we just said what a huge points advantage he gained in SMX seeding in Moto1.

11:19Sexton at the overall for about 30 feet.
11:21What a day here at Ironman.

11:28He's still trying to get that figured out and he might be done here.

11:37Now, maybe what ended up happening either is foot peg, a speed drug off that face.
11:42There was getting a lot of really a lot of bumps going off that face right before the mechanics there.
11:46Because I don't think the bike messed up.
11:48The way he fell, if that was the front tire going, he would have endowed.
11:51So, nonetheless, as you mentioned, costly.
11:54All the points that he just made up for that title, the seeding, it's gone.
11:59And now, well, again, put Hunter Lawrence in position to win the overall.
12:04Sexton's going to take the long walk up that big hill all the way to the pits without his bike.
12:09And I don't even know if the team can fetch that from the area in which he's left it.
12:14So, somehow, Chet Lawrence is not going to end up being the absolute worst day.
12:20Not the best for him.
12:21With the penalty, but now he's long gone in the lead because Hunter has crashed.
12:25Yeah, you see all those runs and bumps.
12:27So, easily to happen.
12:28I'm assuming that, again, the way he went down.
12:32Oh, man, that's a bum.
12:34I think Chet just looked over and said, is that Sexton's bike laying there?
12:40Wild.
12:40We're going to unpack it here at Iron Man, but Chet Lawrence looks to be headed to a moto win.
12:44So, to review all that, Hunter goes down, Sexton passes him briefly, then crashes.
12:55His race is run and done.
12:58Let's see it here.
12:59Yeah, he's looking around like, wait, what just happened?
13:03Yeah, why is this bike laying there?
13:06And where's Hunter?
13:07Yeah, all of a sudden he's got a huge lead and it's over Tomac.
13:10And Hunter might win with a 2-3.
13:14Yeah, we've got to check the points.
13:16What does that do for Jorge and RJ?
13:17Yeah, that's going to put Prado at the moment fourth overall.
13:22And Tomac could be second on a day we're scratching our head after that first moto.
13:27All right, let's look at this again.
13:28We now have the replay ready.
13:33Uh, wow.
13:37Yeah, now, yeah, the front tire was locked up, but I'm thinking when those guys are charging,
13:42they have to hit the brakes.
13:43Yeah, watch me start the bike.

13:48Yeah, it's stuck, but wide open.

13:52Yeah, yeah, something went very wrong there on the takeoff, right?
13:56Like, you can see, obviously, the aftermath of that, but that caught him completely by surprise.
14:00So, I really want to lean towards something going wrong on takeoff.
14:05For him to be that out of shape, that completely caught him.
14:07And another thing, you see the front wheel not in motion, like it's completely stable in the air.
14:12So, it was already locked up in the air.
14:14So, obviously frustrated, but I think that caused the crash, not necessarily was a result of the crash.
14:20Yeah, you never see a front wheel not rotating in the air.
14:25So, Jed Lawrence now with a big lead in this moto.
14:30It has been all sorts of shaking up here at the Ironman National.
14:34Right before that, he's looking over, trying to figure out what the heck is going on in this race.
14:39Yeah, these guys, yeah, he's probably confused.
14:48K-Tip just laying there.
14:50Yeah.
14:50But I don't necessarily think that was, I think Chase ends up going down, you know, made a mistake.
14:58Those guys are locking up because it's not only the front tire was locked up, the rear tire, if you look.
15:02And those guys are charging into that jump.
15:04And I believe he just slid off of the bike, hit those bumps, easy to happen.
15:07And then when he landed, I believe that's what probably caused the front brake issue.
15:13I don't think it was that.
15:15So, Tomac will get back in touch with him.
15:18And the legend here, the four-time champ, is second in this moto.
15:23He would be second overall on what appeared to be a bad day for him.
15:26But even worse with a big penalty for Jed Lawrence in moto one.
15:30And a huge crash for Sexton in moto two.
15:33And he might persevere with second overall.
15:36And with the way this day is going, imagine if something else happens and Tomac ends up winning this thing with a bad finish even in moto one.
15:44There is Hunter Lawrence.
15:45And he's going to not jump because those red cross flags were flying.
15:51He just tapped all three of the jumps at the top of the hill.

15:56He's watching Hunter Lawrence here.
15:57And the mechanics in here in pit lane are desperately trying to relay the message to him that he needs to stay in third for this overall.
16:04There's no way Hunter can be doing math with all the chaos that's gone on.
16:07He has to stay in front of R.J. Hampshire here to protect the lead against Hill Mac.
16:11I suppose by my math though, he's got a little bit of a gap.
16:18He's got a four point gap.
16:19So that would only cost him less than four if Hampshire were to get him.
16:23But he already had a crash.
16:25So you've got to keep digging.
16:26And you know Hampshire will never give up.
16:27Yeah, I think I was close right there on the track.
16:32It's getting very difficult.
16:33But yeah, they're just putting R.J. up to second.
16:37He gets around him.
16:39So this turn right here is where it all started to unravel.
16:48Hunter crashed right here.
16:49And then he got back on the track.
16:51And then moments later, here, Sexton went for his wild ride.
16:57Sexton, by the way, lucky, appears to be uninjured.
17:00Yeah, you can see how his bike was dancing off the face of that jump where Chase crashed at.
17:08So probably a lot of things happening for Chase.
17:10He saw Hunter go down.
17:11He's like, oh, I got this overall.
17:13And the next thing you know, he's on the ground.
17:16So change of events right there in a few seconds.
17:19Well, through all this, Hunter in position for his first ever 450 Pro Motocross overall.
17:23Ten times he's finished second in this class.
17:27And he's actually third all time in podiums without a win.
17:32The most ever is Andrew Short.
17:34He has 21 podiums but never got it overall in this class.
17:37And then Aaron Plessinger is 15.
17:38Hunter has 14.
17:40This could be his 15th podium, but it also could be his first win.
17:44And somehow, still half of this Motocross left.
17:48He reminded him.
17:49Some monster energy.
17:51He's available now.
17:52It's a crazy race.
17:54Yeah, and I saw him.
17:55Hunter almost crashed three times this lap.
17:57You know, it's not like he's overriding, but this track's gotten really difficult.

18:03He's got his hands full.
18:04All these guys do.
18:06Oh, yeah, another one is certainly possible.
18:08Hampshire fourth.
18:10And then Prado fifth.
18:12I think those guys would have to get him for Tomek to have any chance at the overall.
18:17So Hunter's got to keep this thing upright.
18:19And honestly, maybe not even his best day.
18:21But it will be in the results column.
18:25And this is long overdue.
18:27And not in calendar years.
18:29I mean, he only started in this 450 division outdoors last year.
18:32But he's been so close so many times.
18:36Yeah, well, Hunter's still got to stay focused.
18:39Go back to that first moto.
18:40He fought to the end with Chase.
18:41And he said he got a little tired.
18:43So it's not.
18:46Got to be careful.
18:46We're going to show you the crash that he had.
18:51They don't have the best angle on it, but we'll give the best we can here.
18:55It's this corner here.
18:56So upper left behind the branches, that right-hand corner.
19:02There's the big left that you see, then the right.
19:04This is going to be Hunter here going down, right in the middle.
19:08Yeah, and I just saw it because he had the yellow pink gear.
19:11So I noticed it at the top of the screen because we're right there in the TV truck.
19:15Hunter picks up a bike.
19:17He's off the track.
19:18Chase sees him.
19:20Chase is going to...
19:22I don't know if that was the previous notice, but that was sexed.
19:24Yeah, you see that pothole that Chase hit.
19:27I definitely believe that was bike bottomed out and rebound on him.
19:30And, again, the key part of that, both tires were locked up on Chase.
19:34And really easy to happen because of how hard they were riding into that section.
19:39They're slamming on the brakes after going that fast.
19:42So hit something.
19:45Man, that was a tough break for him, literally.
19:47Yeah, and so sexed, there he saw that amount of track distance, about 30 feet, maybe 20 feet.
19:53He had the overall sewed up.
19:55And then he went for his own wild ride.
19:57Just crazy what has happened.
20:00Yeah, Hunter Lawrence is catching Eli Tomek.
20:02Eli, right in front of him, we can get a wide shot.
20:05Okay.
20:06You can hear that Yamaha everywhere.
20:07But...
20:08Tomek has 38 points today if it ends like this.
20:15He'll actually tie our buddy Ricky Carmichael for second all-time in career points scored in this championship.
20:22But I don't know if he's going to get all 38 because Hunter Lawrence could take a few away right here if he can catch Tomek.
20:30Tomek did struggle a bit late in Moto 1.
20:33Yeah, well, there he is.
20:35So did Hunter.

20:38The only one that didn't look like he was struggling was the guy who's not rotting right now.

20:53A penalty in Moto 1.
20:5617th place finish is what he was officially credited with.
20:59And going to bounce back with a win here in Moto 2.
21:02And he was fired up at the start of this one.
21:04Now a lot of traffic everywhere.
21:09Yeah, he's still in shock with what's going on.
21:12It keeps looking back.
21:14I guess that bike's still there.
21:15I don't see how anyone from KTM can get to it.
21:19You know, knowing how close these brothers are, he's probably looking back at Hunter.
21:23You know, trying to probably see where he's at.
21:25Making sure, you know, older brothers there.
21:28Not necessarily he's worried about getting hurt, but almost tow him for his overall.
21:33He knows he has that opportunity.
21:35Hey, yeah, Jet couldn't get it.
21:36You know that he wants to.
21:38And that will be Hunter to finally get one.
21:43So Jet Lawrence in control of the Moto win.
21:45But will it be Hunter Lawrence's, finally, day to get a 450 overall?
21:54There is so much traffic out here.
21:56That also indicates how tough this track is.
21:59And the weather as well.
22:01A lot of these guys struggling here down the stretch.
22:03Yeah, you can tell.
22:05You started seeing these guys sitting down, going up these hills, trying to get a little
22:09bit of a break.
22:09And you know how much Hunter and Jet stands up.
22:13Tough day.
22:13These shadows are getting really long at the moment.
22:17Tough race track, Katie.
22:18It absolutely is.
22:19And we're seeing Jet put it all together to try to get the job done here.
22:23Talking with his mechanic, Christian Ducharme, at one point he had said that he's been with
22:26Jet for seven years.
22:28And he said it's really interesting to see Jet mature, not only as a person, but in his
22:33riding style.
22:34You take Washougal and how he bounced back and how he didn't get upset about, you know,
22:38some of the things that happened there and going down.
22:40And you can see his riding maturity and the way he's handling these situations.
22:45Also, how he manages and recovers.
22:48And I think, you know, Stu, you can talk about the recovery for these guys, the bounce back
22:52and what that has to do.
22:53And JT, you too, right?
22:54Like, that's part of the game for these riders.
22:57It certainly is part of the game.
22:58And talk about evolving his riding style.
23:00James, did you see him put that line together down that straightaway, jumping over that
23:04bump?
23:04Yes, I did.
23:05Hayden did some things on the 250, and that deserves a lot of credit.
23:09But I didn't even know that line was possible.
23:11Jet just did.
23:11Well, I didn't either.
23:13But he just made it possible.
23:14But the two guys that are going to at least win the second moto, if Jet hangs on, and Hayden
23:18Deegan went at 250, you can see those things.
23:21That's the elevation.
23:22I think that's what separates them from everybody else.
23:24This track is really tough, and, man, he's got it figured out.
23:33So now Hunter Lawrence here at Ironman, catching Eli Tomac.
23:38Waning moments at the Ironman National.
23:42There will be two pro motocross races to go after this, and then the playoffs loom in September.
23:47And positioning the seating, you start with a couple of points to the good or bad, depending
23:51on how your regular season went.
23:53And that's been thrown all sorts of upside down today.
23:57Yeah, big.
23:58And in the way Hunter looked, there was a couple laps.
24:01I think Eli kind of coming back to him, probably helping him stay away from RJ, because RJ has
24:06been about four seconds behind him.
24:07So now he has a tail he can at least focus in on Eli.
24:11Probably keep him focused to wrap this thing up if he can hold on to it.

26:45Well, a bit of a crowding moment.
26:46And as JT was talking about in the first moto, this is not a rider that rides the highs and lows of emotion.
26:51But it will be the first 450 win in this format.
26:54He won one of the SMX races last year, but we've been saying it actually all season.
27:00For Hunter Lawrence to become this good, he finally has the win.
27:03But he has been rock solid with all these podiums and battling Sexton for the title.
27:07Says a lot about the program, man, because was he a good prospect?
27:11Yes, but I don't know how many people expected him to end up this good in the premier class.
27:16He's put in the work, and he has delivered.
27:18No, he's definitely delivered.
27:19You go back to, you know, the year before he won the title in the 250 class, you know, he was getting really injured.
27:26And, you know, I saw the talent in the talking to Johnny, and I'm like, man, I actually think Hunter might be more talented than Jett the way he was when he kept getting hurt.
27:34So he kept fighting, and you've got to think a lot of that goes from Darren having his brother around, Johnny O'Meara just keeping him focused.
27:41And that's what you're starting to see because he's got the talent.
27:44He's now, if he can hold on another two and a half or two minutes and plus two laps, get his first overall victory.
27:51And go back to last year, our XMS World Championship, he was one point from winning that title.
27:57And so as much as we're talking about Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton and the points, don't forget about Eli Tomac.
28:02Don't forget about Hunter Lawrence.
28:04They're going after this title as well.
28:05So Hunter Lawrence, clock's ticking on what could be his first Pro Motocross overall win.
28:15A couple other battles out of the track right now.
28:17You've got Barsha and Ferrandez, Barsha on the Rockstar Gas Gas, Ferrandez on the Phoenix Racing Factory Connection Honda.
28:24That is for eighth and ninth.
28:26You riders have missed some time of injury.
28:28It's actually Ferrandez's first race back in a while.
28:32And I talked to Ferrandez real quick this morning.
28:35He said he really needed this break.
28:372023, he raced the whole season.
28:40He said he was fighting the motorcycle a lot.
28:41He has really just not felt the same physically throughout last year and this year.
28:46So the break has helped him get the energy back.
28:51He's riding pretty well right now with Barsha right ahead.
28:54Yeah, good to see him both these guys back.
28:56I think Justin got around him looking at the lap times, but Dylan's still fighting or what's going on.
29:03But nonetheless, good ride for him coming back, missing all this season.
29:07Tough racetrack.
29:08Yeah, this is a 2021 series champion in a dominant run for Ferrandez waiting for him to find that old form.
29:17He definitely feels better today and we'll see what he does at Unadillo next week.
29:21That's maybe his best track on this circuit.

32:31Yeah, RJ has really impressed me this summer,
32:33and it's a good shot in the arm for that whole Husqvarna team.
32:37They had a tough, so far, tough season, the results they wanted to.
32:42RJ came so close to that Supercross championship,
32:44went down with him and Tom Bial and Seth Antmaker.
32:47So coming out here, we never really knew what we were going to get.
32:50We thought maybe we were going to get some RJ things happening,
32:54but, man, he's been solid on this,
32:55and if he can hang on to this, it would be good to see Nate Ramsey
32:58and the whole squad get a first podium of the year in this 450 class.
33:02And remember, not only debuting on the bike, which is difficult enough,
33:07but coming off, had to get wrist surgery after that dramatic Supercross campaign.
33:11So he's coming back from injury while learning the bike.
33:14They've had to make changes week by week as the wrist gets stronger.
33:18He can run a little bit stiffer suspension,
33:20and then he gets faster, and they've got to do it again.
33:22So this is impressive.
33:23Yeah, and I don't know if it's just his riding style of just RJ,
33:27but normally most riders are like, oh, he had wrist surgery before.
33:30You're like, man, that's impressive.
33:31But RJ, that's kind of what you expect.
33:33Yeah, it's true.
33:33You're like, look, man, he never gives up.
33:35He's a tough dude.
33:36So, yeah, he had surgery a few days.
33:38So what?
33:39He's out here riding, but.
