00:0040 riders on the gate, here it is, revs are up, gates down, and Deacon rockets out of a start.
00:09He's going to get pitched off though in the first turn, Seth Hemmaker a good start, and Tom Vial.
00:14Great start by Tom Vial at the last weekend's third place, he was feeling pretty good,
00:19and then Seth Hemmaker was their fastest qualifier at first practice, great start for him.
00:25Julian Bomer there as well, James, split section before they drop into gravity cavity.
00:30Who wants it? It's going to be Vial.
00:32Yeah, these guys understand their track position is always key, and we haven't talked about it a lot,
00:36but this roost with these rocks in this track, you want to be out front, looks like Joe Shimoda slides.
00:41Trying to get around Hayden Deacon for fifth place, but good to see the number 16 Tom Vial out front.
00:47Deacon getting bottled up there, he's working on, no, Shimoda has made it around him, and now around Balmer.
00:52So Shimoda rolling early on the number 30.
00:55Yeah, and the last few weekends, I feel like this is where Joe's been really strong,
00:59took him one of his weaknesses and made it a strength, as he's going to try to go up the inside of Seth Hemmaker.
01:04So, wow, Joe Shimoda's here, wanted to go to that inside, but they put out a lot of water on this racetrack.
01:11I impressed, Shimoda just passed about five riders in the first third of a lap here at Unadilla,
01:17and now only one remains, it's Vial in the lead.
01:20Yeah, this gives a rider like Joe Shimoda a lot of confidence, as he didn't need much, but Tom doesn't watch out.
01:25Joe's going to go around him, he might as well take another one.
01:29Jump downhill, and it's one of the fastest parts of the racetrack.
01:34Shimoda setting up the inside.
01:36See what Joe does.
01:39Has he got him already?
01:40They almost touched wheels.
01:41Tom's going to be on the inside on his next corner, so since Joe tries to square him up, go down the inside of him.
01:50Oh, he tried.
01:51Yeah, he thought about it.
01:52Tom just had too much pace, but what an opening lap by Joe.
01:56Sky shot, one of the legendary jumps.
01:59Now they're going to turn right and head uphill.
02:03See if Joe's got room.
02:05As they head to the wall, he is all over Vial.
02:08Oh, not enough room.
02:10Yeah, Joe's got a pace.
02:11Now here he's got to just stay calm because you don't want to lose a lot of time coming up this wall.
02:16Joe's like he's got a good run on Tom.
02:19Tom's still going to have the inside here, but.
02:23And some good defensive riding for the two-time MX2 champion, the Grand Prix circuit in Europe.
02:29Missed some time, actually, with injury at Millville.
02:32They came back really better than he'd have been all year with that podium last week.
02:35So Vial on the gas right now, Hamaker, Deegan, Bomer, and Dundee in his pro debut is sixth.
02:42And Shimoda continues to hammer on Vial.
02:45Looks like he got him up the inside.
02:47That's a new part of track.
02:48They got a split lane.
02:49Joe goes up the inside, makes Tom have to follow him.
02:52So from outside of the top five to the lead in one lap, Joe Shimoda.
02:56I want to go back to what you said on lap one.
02:58This used to be the problem for Shimoda, the early laps.
03:01And now it's his greatest asset.
03:03Yeah, I mean, you've got to be comfortable.
03:05And to me, it's all about Joe's mindset.
03:08I mean, obviously, he's comfortable on the HRC Honda, and he's been good all year long.
03:12But the weaknesses has been that these stars, and, man, has he figured it out?
03:16Absolutely.
03:18And the rider from Japan takes the lead for the rider from France.
03:21We give a call to all the different nations who have riders entered today.
03:25Hamaker, the Pennsylvania native, now rolling up on the rear fender of Vial, and he has Deegan with him.
03:33Yeah, Tom went outside.
03:35I think he made that little mistake.
03:37You know, watch out, Septa, and get it by him as he does right there.
03:40Yeah.
03:41So, yeah, nice move by Hamaker.
03:43Get the second.
03:44There's Deegan.
03:44Can't even see the number one on the outside.
03:46He's covered in mud already.
03:48Ben, you know what?
03:49Hamaker's the one Kawasaki rider that doesn't need to figure out the starts.
03:53He has been lightning out of the gate this year, and, boy, they just went by Vial in a hurry.
03:58Yeah, I think, obviously, with Seth, he's obviously had to pace all year long, especially.
04:02He took a couple weeks after that injury to get his speed back, but now that he has, let's see if he can turn one injury, fastest qualifier to a good result here.
04:13Shimoda getting away.
04:15A little over a second is the gap now over Hamaker and Deegan.
04:20Shimoda has led laps in seven of the last nine motos.
04:24This gives you an idea how strong he's been riding, and two of the last four wins.
04:29Oh, Deegan.
04:31Yeah, that was close.
04:33I was going to say, Hayden looks really patient to me.
04:35When he gets close to these guys, he'll try to make that strike, but otherwise, it's not like he's trying to make mistakes.
04:40It's because of that they put down a lot of water.
04:42Now you can see some of this loose salt sitting on top of this hard, hard base, and with that water thrown on it, catches these guys out.
04:49Well, my question here is going to be, he does need to pretty much go out and beat or match Shimoda today to wrap up the title.
04:57So how will he play this?
04:58Katie?
04:59Yeah, I think that's the deal, right?
05:01If he doesn't want to be overreactive out there on the track, how is he going to get the job done?
05:05I think it's playing it a bit safe.
05:07But I do want you guys to notice with handguards on his bike, that little tipover he had had in that first session out on track today,
05:14he's going to just tweak that arm, maybe a little bit sore.
05:17His hand, they put those handguards on, not because there was an issue, but out of more preventative.
05:21And that's just something some of these guys are doing out here because of the rocks and kind of the conditions out on track.
05:26Yeah, rare to see handguards on Deegan's bike, Katie.
05:30He might need him, though, because he's about to get a whole bunch of roost on that Kawasaki up ahead, and Handbeker looks over.
05:35Yeah, that's that.
05:37Should have the inside if Hayden gets in here and squared it up.
05:41You know, the one thing that's different, we saw Hayden kind of be in this situation.
05:45Wow, what a line that was.
05:46Yeah, that's what I like about Unadilla.
05:48You can really start setting these guys up.
05:51And this is a crash that Katie was talking about.
05:53This is very early in qualifying today on the lower right side of the screen.
05:57Yeah.
05:58And that's that crash he was referencing.
06:00So his head, I guess, hurting a little bit.
06:01Got the handguards on now.
06:03Yeah, and it didn't look like a big crash, a small tip over.
06:06But then you start seeing what happened.
06:08He ended up 11th at that qualifying bent handlebars and now having a possible banged up on his hands.
06:14Those little crashes, they hurt.
06:15But, yeah, with Hayden Deegan, the difference between last weekend and this one, I don't think you can ride this track like he was able to ride last weekend by just charging.
06:23You've got to be really patient.
06:24So this lead that Joe has, almost seven seconds and his two laps, it would be hard for Hayden to make that gap up because of how this track is.
06:34And we've got to ride him down.
06:35Oh, that's most of it down.
06:38He had a crash last week.
06:39He's been dealing with ankle problems.
06:41And that made it rough on him last week.
06:43Not sure what has happened to him here.
06:46Oh, that's unfortunate.
06:47This was a guy mid-season.
06:48He was up on the podium quite a bit, pretending for more.
06:53Yeah.
06:53How the heck, by the way, Joe, seven-second lead in two and a half laps.
06:58Unbelievable.
06:58Yeah, Joe came out fired.
07:01I mean, he went past all these guys.
07:03Welcome back, Tom Masson.
07:04Oh, and welcome back down, unfortunately.
07:08He was trying to make the move on Beaumere for fifth.
07:11He had a broken bone in his hand right before Redbud.
07:15Yeah, we saw Hayden almost do that at the first lap.
07:17That's why I was going back to how you're going to have to rock this track.
07:20You've got to be very patient with all these rocks.
07:22It seems like it's a lot slipperier as his moto started, even if it was in practice.
07:28So tie-up, maybe just outside the top ten now.
07:31I think I saw Schwartz get by him,
07:33who is ninth.
07:35Got another rider down.
07:36I see a lot of yellow flags.
07:38Well, you mentioned how much water was thrown down early.
07:41Is that potentially a byproduct of that, or is that just Unadilla in general?
07:45Well, it seemed like that soil that they brought in is now almost fluffed up.
07:50So now sitting on a hard base, and to me, it looks a lot slipperier and looser for these guys.
07:55So they're probably just getting caught out in the track conditions in the two hours between practice and the race.
08:00And there's the 400 of Dudley we showed you right before the gate drop.
08:03It's a pro debut for this young man, who was a dominant star at Loretta Lenz last year in the B-Class,
08:09but wasn't able to race as an expert this year.
08:12Got hurt at the Daytona SMX Next Racing practice.
08:17Arm, broken arm, healed up.
08:18Got back on the bike, broke it again.
08:20So it was really only to get back into racing last weekend, but he won the first moto at the SMX Next Combine.
08:28And he's back, and now racing pro, and Dartwell, Dudley at eighth.
08:32Yeah, it's doing good, and I love that SMX Next program because it helps these guys be better prepared,
08:39at least on the track-wise.
08:41Things will probably start happening fast for him, but the rookie, he'll figure it out.
08:44Katie?
08:45Yeah, these guys know how to race, you know, even though they're learning,
08:47and that's exactly what Katie Dudley had told me.
08:50He wants to learn, he wants to have fun, and he wants to enjoy it.
08:53I did ask him underneath the Star Racing's camp who he's kind of connected with,
08:57who he's friends with, and he said, actually, Deacon.
08:59He's always been chill with me.
09:01We talk on and off, and that's kind of the guy he's leaned on for some questions and answers here.
09:07They chill with me.
09:08That's the way you talk to Deacon.
09:09That's perfect.
09:10Yeah, I mean, we've got a couple teenagers here.
09:11That's how they roll.
09:12Yeah, no, that's how they roll until he starts getting up there.
09:15Oh, yeah, you're right.
09:16You know how it is.
09:17No, I mean, Hayden's a good kid.
09:19All these guys are, and they just want to beat each other, so good shoulder lean on, like you said.
09:25Behind him, you've got the 44 of Schwartz on the Bar X Toyota Redlands Yamaha,
09:30then Jordan Smith's end of the trial.
09:31Haram, who had a crash in qualifying at the very end.
09:35We were afraid he might not be able to get back up.
09:38He did eventually get back on his own feet, and he is now seventh in this moto.
09:42As they drop down, this hill is so steep.
09:46Yeah, a lot steeper, and you can see all the dust up here, and as the day goes on,
09:51there's going to get all these ruts forming up that hill.
09:53So on these 250s, these guys have got to be very, very patient in the bottom of that corner.
09:57They can lose one or two seconds going up that hill.
10:01Oh, you can lose one or two seconds when you're on the track there, like Schwartz,
10:04who now has Jordan Smith all over him, JT.
10:07He does, and they are battling it out.
10:08But that Bar X Toyota Redlands Yamaha team there, you just wonder how the engine performance is.
10:14They unfortunately had two engines stolen from them right after the Ironman Nationals.
10:19So I'm sure that added to a very chaotic week going from Indiana to New York.
10:23So you just wonder if he's lost any performance,
10:25but he seems to be overcoming anything that could have happened in the red.
10:28I don't know if I've ever heard of that happening, Cor.
10:31Stolen engines.
10:32I mean, I guess the bikes are that fast.
10:34No, I'm sorry.
10:35Somebody else wants them.
10:36No, I'll just bring them back.
10:37But, you know, looking at these two battle, and then you look at that time of the scoring,
10:42I thought it was a mistake, 11 seconds from Joe Shimoda.
10:44Boy, that's gotten a new show today, and it matters
10:48because if he goes out and beats Deacon in the photos, title will not be wrapped up,
10:53and it will go down to the finale as we continue to watch this Jordan Smith-Dylan Schwartz battle,
10:59and it's March Banks, who is, guess what, making his way forward after about a mid-pack start at 11.
11:05Yeah, you got Ryder D and then Masterpool's behind him.
11:09So, like, George Smith got around Dylan.
11:15March Banks getting up in there.
11:17Yeah.
11:17Oh, okay.
11:18Yeah, it's tough.
11:20I mean, as we said, how many yellow flags we just saw washouts and tipovers here on this first lap.
11:26Far section here, March Banks on the 36th, putting the attack on Schwartz.
11:31Yeah, unfortunate.
11:32Fortunately, and unfortunately for Garrett, he's used to being in this spot, you know,
11:36past another four guys, and I'm sure he started even farther back than this.
11:40But at this racetrack, with all the roosts, and it seems how difficult this racetrack has been so far,
11:46it would be hard for him to move his way up in that top five.
11:49And what makes it so difficult, Unadilla is certainly a rugged track, but is it even tougher today?
11:55Some of the circumstances or just regular Unadilla stuff?
11:58Well, I mean, I've seen Unadilla play out like this before.
12:02I think the hard part for these guys, it seems like it's been changing all day long.
12:06And from watching practice to this race, it's pretty different.
12:10So the struggle really comes from how different it has been in the last two hours, Katie.
12:15I want to talk a little bit about Jordan Smith here, Stu,
12:17and the fact that that team has done a whole lot of testing.
12:21I asked the team how Jordan Smith handles it all, and they said he is a guy that's all for it.
12:26In fact, he's a guy that if anybody wants to test, he's okay being the guinea pig.
12:30They actually did some testing here this last week, some suspension testing.
12:34But they said, hey, look, we're constantly evolving as a team.
12:38We're learning.
12:38We're growing, of course, in only a couple years into the series.
12:42And Jordan Smith and Michael Harrop running eighth and ninth right now,
12:45they're definitely showing up to you.
12:48No doubt.
12:48We miss Jalik Swole, who's out for the rest of the year, tore his calf, actually,
12:54which is a byproduct of the Achilles injury he's coming back from.
12:57But they still got quite a few fast riders as Smith goes after Harrop.
13:01Yeah, Jordan.
13:02I mean, this whole team, Triumph team, has been getting better.
13:04And sometimes with how deep this field is, the results don't show it.
13:08But you can watch these two routers as they battle for positions.
13:11You can watch this whole team, everyone, including Jalik Swole and Austin Forkner.
13:17They've all gotten better.
13:19Oh, yeah.
13:20And Smith trying to get outside on Harrop.
13:24Yeah, tough spot for Jordan.
13:25He's trying to get around his teammate, but he's got the ever lurking.
13:28The bottom screen, I believe, is, oh, shout out.
13:40That is Brody Conley, the Australian 250 champion, who's over here at Quad Lock Honda.
13:44And he is battling Julian Beaumere for fifth place, who's a rough jump into American racing for Conley last week.
13:53But he is impressive right now.
13:5527th at Ironman.
13:56And right now it's sixth.
13:59Yeah.
13:59Battling with Dundee.
14:00Go ahead, JG.
14:00James, I was just going to mention there on Conley, if you had told me that Cole Davies was going to be back at Unidill and wouldn't be the top-ranking Kiwi, I would have said, you're crazy.
14:10But here we are.
14:11Conley, your Australian champion, hailing from New Zealand.
14:14But it might be a late addition to this New Zealand Motorcross and Nations team and give them quite a team.
14:19Yeah, I heard he's a little older than Davies, but I did hear they grew up battling each other and close.
14:23Oh, hold on, Brody.
14:26But he expects, or there are those that expect him to be able to run Davies-type speed, and he's riding well right now.
14:32I've had a chance to watch him, you know, ride.
14:35And, man, the kid is fast.
14:37He did a good job not going down right there.
14:40It looks like Harf's going to get past.
14:42That's what I was saying earlier.
14:43But if you don't get that run out of that bottom corner, how you can lose a position?
14:46Well, there you go.
14:48Marshbanks has gotten around him.
14:49Now they're starting to close in on that Conley battle.
14:52Oh, yeah.
14:53Now they have him in sight, Conley and Dudney.
14:56And then Smith and Marshbanks, they've pushed Harf back to 10th.
15:00It's actually a rough one as far as the recent standards of Harf.
15:03Maybe he's feeling it from that crash earlier.
15:06Hey, halfway through this moto.
15:09Reminder, Monster Energy available now at Morabito.
15:13That's a convenience store here in this region, and Smith goes by Conley.
15:17Yeah, things seem like they're starting to happen a little fast for Conley, but, you know, that's the hard part about the 250.
15:23Once you get one, now you've got Marshbanks, and you've got Harf behind him, and don't look back.
15:27There's plenty of guys, Ryder D, so you just need to slow down a little bit, let that mind settle, and let this race halfway through.
15:35Now, one thing that was tough on that Australian crew coming over after winning the Australian titles, that also includes Kyle Webster in the 450 Classic.
15:42Australia's seasons are the exact opposite of North America, so it's wintertime for them, and it was hot last week in Indy, and I think that affected all of them.
15:52A little bit cooler today, and they've had another week to acclimate, so a little bit better.
15:56And then, of course, shout-out to the women's champion out of Australia, Charlie Cannon, who won a moto in WMX here yesterday, and they brought Shane McElrath back.
16:06He wants to get ready for the SMX playoffs.
16:08Shane's going to race the last three pro motocross rounds, so he'll be up in the 450s a little bit later.
16:13Jordan Smith still making moves, now catching Dugney.
16:18Good ride by Caden out front.
16:20I mean, I'm holding these guys on right now, and just need to just set his sights, focus.
16:26Looks like Jordan's fine in the flow, almost goes off the racetrack right there, but doesn't watch out.
16:31Garrett's got to try to, he almost loops out.
16:35Getting the power to the ground.
16:37Yeah, trying to get the power, go around the outside.
16:40And there's Dugney, the young rider, again, coming back from serious injuries this year, and doing well in his pro debut.
16:49We'll get the Monster Energy, the Omaha Star Racing running order.
16:52Again, Deegan second, Dugney sixth, Thrasher 14th.
16:55Dax Bennett, who returned to racing last week, 20th.
16:57Davies in 25th, and the Moseman had that early crash.
17:01Pierce Brown got back in action last week, but unfortunately crashed again, and he's out.
17:06JT.
17:06I'm just watching Jordan Smith here at Legion.
17:09I spoke to him right before this first moto, just about the track conditions.
17:12How is it shaping up?
17:13Because it was so good this morning.
17:15And he said, you know, it's really tricky on the outside.
17:18It's incredibly hard packed, and you kind of want to use that on the 250, because you get more forward drive.
17:23It doesn't bog you down.
17:24But that middle section, even though it is softer, you get more traction, so it's a little bit more comfortable.
17:29We see somebody down there on the bottom box.
17:32That doesn't look good at all.
17:33But he said it's kind of choose your poison with this track right now.
17:36Do you want to go to the outside, carry more momentum, be in the rough stuff where you want to find that traction,
17:41but also deal with the kind of deepness and unpredictability of the center part of the racetrack.
17:46So it's kind of a tale of two cities out there at the moment.
17:49Thank you, JT.
17:50And that was Harrop, who, again, had to crash earlier and then has another one now.
17:55Hope the rider, the Danish rider is okay there, but that looked rough for the 107.
18:00Yeah, it looked like that was right before the mechanics here, right there, the step up.
18:05So, yeah, it is as difficult as a game makes a mistake or a cross run.
18:12And I see a lot of these guys doing it.
18:14Again, the track is so different than what it was earlier today in practice, catching a lot of these guys out.
18:22And Dundee trying to come back on Smith now.
18:24Now, look, as the track changes, we hear a lot of riders that get the bike in the sweet spot.
18:28They don't really tweak a lot week to week.
18:30But can the bike be way off when the track is different than it was the last Tamir on the track?
18:34Yeah, absolutely.
18:35I mean, that's what you're basing it off of.
18:37There was no indication earlier that the track was going to end up playing out like this.
18:41So a lot of these teams probably didn't prepare for it.
18:44And God's like, whoever can be comfortable being uncomfortable is filling this out.
18:49And I think that's why you see a lot of mistakes, guys, almost going off the racetrack.
18:52As you can see, George Smith just trying to get that power down.
18:56It'll be difficult for him.
18:57Second mode would be a lot better.
18:58But this first moto, big difference.
19:02Let's reset it for you here.
19:03Shimoda is up to a 20-second lead, less than 20 minutes into this moto.
19:08Unbelievable.
19:10Show on the Honda HRC Progressive Machine.
19:13Absolutely railing.
19:15Deegan second, Hamaker third.
19:17Viala and Beaumare are fourth and fifth.
19:19Nice bounce back for Beaumare, who had some good starts last week,
19:23but the finishes weren't where he wanted them in his return from injury in Indiana.
19:27March makes six.
19:28Smith, Duttony, Guy Francisco, and Schwartz.
19:30That's top ten.
19:32Joe Shimoda.
19:34What did he eat for breakfast this morning?
19:36I don't know.
19:36Joe, it's been riding good these last few races.
19:39And now that he's out front and has his lead, he's going to make this track look pretty simple.
19:43Like, you make a mistake there.
19:44Right now, you just slowly get back into it.
19:47There's no rush.
19:48Try to find that traction, get that bike on, that meat of the tire.
19:53And Joe looks really, really good and comfortable doing it.
19:56Absolutely continuing to march away from the field.
20:02So Joe continues to pull away, peaking maybe at the right time,
20:06trying to stave off championship elimination.
20:08And then the playoffs will begin.
20:11Super motocross playoffs.
20:12That's September 6th, Charlotte, North Carolina.
20:15September 13th in St. Louis, Missouri.
20:18And Las Vegas are going to enter the code BOGORDL for the SMX experiences

20:40where the other tickets cannot go.
20:43That's BOGORDL at smxexperiences.com.
20:47Now back to this battle, Brody Connelly in the Quad Lock Honda.
20:49And he's just got zapped by Max Voland, the 92 of the FXR Muckoff Club of X Yamaha Voland.
20:58Right around top 10, I think 7th in points right now, and also 6th in combined SMX points.
21:04It's been a solid season for Max.
21:06Been building, and he has had his struggles, but he just told me this morning,
21:10he just kept sticking with it, sticking with it, and he's been pretty solid.
21:14And now Max has been running really good this last half part of the season.
21:17And, you know, not only had that injury, but, you know, almost switching up on how he rides a motorcycle
21:22with the rear brake, and, man, he looks really good.
21:25Probably the best I've seen him in his career for a while, and see if he can keep marching his way on out.
21:32Yeah, that handbrake, because, again, he has the hip injury, which led to nerve damage.
21:35He can't use his foot for the rear brake.
21:37He said it was much harder in motocross than supercross, and there was a point,
21:41he said early in these outdoor nationals where he was thinking, I don't know if it's going to work.
21:46He had almost thought of giving up and saying, I don't know if I can do it outdoors.
21:50But he kept the head down, kept driving, and here he is inside the top 10 in points.
21:55He's been solid in nearly every moto this year, so that's persistence paying off for the 92.
22:00Yeah, I'm really impressed with him.
22:05So far, so there's range track.
22:06You can see these guys having to funnel in one line over here.
22:10So even though you're quicker, you get stuck behind these guys.
22:13You've got to wait for your opportunity.
22:15And here's Max's take on that handbrake, racing supercross versus motocross.
22:23I think a little bit harder on outdoors.
22:25We just go so much faster on outdoors when we have to stop a lot more and use our brakes a lot more.
22:31Supercross with the bull turns, you can kind of roll, and you honestly don't need your brakes as much.
22:36So I definitely found that it's been a harder learning curve on outdoors,
22:39and I feel like that's kind of where my results has come from.
22:43Like, it's just been more of a learning curve.
22:45So it's been harder for me to be able to go as fast and stop as fast as I could before.
22:51But I pretty much figured it out now and got pretty dialed.
22:54So it's just about putting in the laps and logging in the time.
22:58Yeah, and I agree.
22:59And I think what Max is talking about is when you slam into the corners where that, you know,
23:04you make a mistake and you need a break, that's where it really gets hard on motocross,
23:07where at supercross, you know, you're making mistakes in a whoop section or whatnot.
23:11It's just those things that come out of left field in motocross that you need that instant stop.
23:15But nonetheless, this is Marsh Banks.
23:17He finally caught up to Julian, doing what he's been doing all season long.
23:23I didn't think he was going to be able to get up to fifth, but Garrett's proved me wrong.
23:28Hey, the guy can pass people.
23:29Passed 156 riders this year.
23:33Now, the tough part for Garrett was the start was actually decent second moto last week,
23:37but he wasn't feeling good, actually, and it didn't result in the finish he wanted.
23:43Going to be better in this one.
23:45Trying to make the move.
23:49Balmer is able to hang him out to dry on the outside.
23:51March Banks going to try again.
23:52He's like, you hang me out to dry.
23:54I just go around the outside.
23:55You feel the inside here.
23:56I got this.
23:57Wow, big scrub over the sky shot.
23:59March Banks makes the move.
24:01And Balmer is going to push him back to sixth, Katie.
24:04It did push him back to sixth.
24:06He was third overall in the qualifying earlier today,
24:08and he said he did feel comfortable.
24:10The track is fast, choppy, and consistent laps, which were paying off for him earlier,
24:14and hopefully would pay off in the race.
24:16But, guys, remember in Ironman, he had mentioned something in an interview about vision.
24:20Well, it turns out his vision had to have been right through some of his racing,
24:24and he decided to go to the eye doctor and get some contacts.
24:28So, in fact, it absolutely had nothing to do with the track itself when he was talking about the vision.
24:33But it was for the first time that he was riding this motorcycle out here, he could see physically.
24:38And so that's actually going to help him as a rider overall.
24:41Yeah, for sure.
24:42If you don't have vision, that's a big issue.
24:45Unfortunately for him, you're going to see the vision of Garrett March Banks walking away.
24:48And if he turns around, you're going to see George Smith coming up.
24:50So, Julian, it's a lot to change for him, and especially the way his Supercross season was going.
24:57Bummer for him, but I'm glad he's got it fixed because I expect him to be up where he's at,
25:01these top ten positions, and continue to just get better, Julian, that is.
25:05Yeah, he told me last week it's going to be my first race in contacts,
25:08and I didn't know if he meant that literally, like contact lenses.
25:11I'm like, is there some new cool bike part that they're calling?
25:15No, it was actually just, I don't know how you would not know.
25:19I guess you have to start asking other people, what did you see?
25:21Because I did not see that.
25:22But somewhere along the way, he figured out he wasn't actually seeing, I don't want to say well enough,
25:28because honestly, this guy won a Supercross earlier this year.
25:31It's not like it's been a huge problem, but maybe better now.
25:34Yeah, and to be honest with him, he wouldn't really notice that until he got into Motocross,
25:39because things happen so much faster out in Motocross that he would get out here and have those troubles.
25:45And, you know, when you're not looking for that problem, that's a weird problem to be like,
25:48now I can't see out here, I'm having a hard time.
25:52Then he said this morning it's actually been a little bit of adjustment period.
25:55Now he's having to adjust all the things that he can see now that he's not used to.
25:59Yeah, some things you don't want to see out here.
26:01Like some of these bums, I don't want to see that.
26:03And as always in the 250s, we mentioned there's always a battle, so Marchbanks gets him.
26:08Now I'll have to hold off Smith back to Deegan here in second.
26:13He was able to catch Shimoda last week.
26:15I don't think that's happening this time.
26:1835 seconds, the lead for Shimoda.
26:21Deegan's riding well, but if Shimoda can replicate this in Moto2, title will not be wrapped up.
26:27Now it'd still be a massive lead for Deegan going into Butts Creek, so it's not panic time at all,
26:32but still Shimoda riding well.
26:34Yeah, so Hayden looked down on his motorcycle.
26:37You know, you could say that, all right, he's not going for the championship,
26:41and that's where on the keys to the Moto2 is the opportunity for all these other guys to really step up.
26:46But, I mean, Hayden's 10 seconds ahead of Seth and even farther ahead of Tom Biao.
26:53So that's just how fast Joe's going.
26:55Joe's just on a different level.
26:57I don't even know if Hayden was fully into it.
26:58Would he be able to run that pace right now?
27:00Joe's just found something else.
27:02But hopefully Hayden, he finishes his Moto.
27:04It's weird to see him, you know, look down like that at his motorcycle and he does it again.
27:10Yeah.
27:11Now back to Shimoda.
27:13So Deegan and Yamaha announced he will race 450 Motocross next year.
27:17So it's kind of hard to resist speculating as what the 250 class could look like in 2026.
27:24And, I mean, I'll tell you what, Shimoda's making a great case as an early title favorite next year.
27:30He's not even eliminated yet this year.
27:32But what a run over the back half of this championship.
27:36And honestly, he was good from the beginning of it.
27:37He just got even better after a good start, JT.
27:40He has.
27:41This is, I would say, the best we've ever seen Joe ride.
27:44And you could say maybe Deegan's suffering from something to hand, maybe sore, whatever.
27:48But it's hard to argue this isn't his best performance ever.
27:51And we just, what did he eat for breakfast?
27:52I think we have to go back to that concept we talked about a few weeks ago.
27:56This is Wasabi Joe.
27:57Okay, Wasabi Joe is spicy today as the team manager Lars Lindstrom sent it to Katie.
28:04You know, guys, I am going to find out what that man had for breakfast.
28:07That's going to be for moto number two.
28:08But I asked him about Joe.
28:10I said, you like it?
28:10And he kind of thought for a moment.
28:12He goes, I said, what do you like?
28:13But he goes, well, you know what?
28:14Maybe I don't like this track.
28:16But he said, but I did have some good riding this week.
28:18But mostly it was about recovery.
28:19He said, Iron Man was so hot.
28:22As you can see, the mechanic's been there showing him to stay focused.
28:25But he said, it was so hot at Iron Man.
28:28I felt upset going into this week.
28:30So he only rode two days, a very short second day.
28:33He cycled a bit, had a gym session.
28:35But really, this week was about recovery.
28:37And in fact, maybe that's what he needed to get that little extra.
28:41Yeah, whatever it is.
28:42I mean, he definitely looks recovered and fresh to me.
28:45And I agree with both you guys and JT.
28:47This is the best I've ever seen, Joe.
28:49We've seen these rides where, you know, he'll come up to the pack and just get on that roll.
28:53But to turn his weakness into strength, I mean, you've got to be really impressed.
28:59And to do that in the middle part of the season is even more impressive.
29:02So, yeah, this is a different rider than what we've seen in years past and continuing to get better.
29:07It's going to get a lot of confidence even moving forward racing against Hayden.
29:11They're able to feel like, hey, now I can get off the gate and run away from these guys.
29:16And it's going to make Hayden have to change his approach as well.
29:20Well, we started the show saying that Hayden's working, try to be the first rider to win three 250 titles in a season.
29:26250 Supercross, Motocross, and SMX.
29:29But, I mean, you've got to start thinking about Shimoda's shot at that.
29:33Those two went wheel to wheel literally for that crowd in 2023.
29:38It could be a rematch.
29:40Look out.
29:40Hey, you better watch out.
29:42Joe ain't playing today.
29:43Yeah, lap riders, y'all all are getting it.
29:47Shimoda's lead is nearly 40 seconds.
29:51And you saw it straight up on the first lap.
29:53Just moving by riders with ease.
29:56He's just on a level today that no one else is able to match.
30:00Deegan back there in second at Hamaker in a fight would be out for that final podium spot.
30:05About three seconds up on him.
30:06Yeah, Joe gets in his own.
30:08We said it last weekend at Second Moto, like he's going to ride at the same pace the whole time.
30:13And if that pace is faster than everybody else, well, he's going to be faster than everybody else the whole race.
30:17I love the way he attacks it and how he goes about his business.
30:20But today, if he can have, I would say, that Ken Rockson opening lap speed, man, you look at a rider that obviously has the fitness.
30:29Now he has the motorcycles.
30:30Now he's figuring out the start, has that confidence.
30:32Joe's going to be a huge problem for these guys next year and even in these playoffs.
30:36Hey, good day to reference Ken Rockson because he's back on the gate.
30:41450 Moto1 coming up after this.
30:43Rockson's going to make his return at the ankle injury in Monster Energy Supercross.
30:48Ken said he wasn't planning on racing any motocross at all, but here he is today at Unadilla.
30:52Again, that'll be up next.
30:53So here's Hammaker, like I said, in a bit of a battle.
30:57VL's not too far back.
30:59About two, three seconds, you see the KTM rider taking off just as Hammaker landed.
31:05Yeah, Tom's actually closing that gap.
31:07So he's got about two laps to hang on for this podium position.
31:10And Tom's got that confidence from last weekend.
31:13Looked like a different rider.
31:15Fitness is good.
31:15And now he sees an opportunity to get that third place.
31:21He's got March Banks pushing his pace up.
31:23Garrett's only a few seconds behind him.
31:25So always a battle here in Pro Motocross.
31:32And VL, which way will it go?
31:34Can he catch Hammaker or can March Banks catch the 16th?
31:38Yeah, with this racetrack, it's hard because you've got to just slowly get this guy.
31:51If you try to really override it, then you'll be on your head really quick.
31:55I had a lot of experience of that.
31:56So I know these guys have got to be patient.
31:59There are certain sections.
32:00It seems like Tom has this part of the track figured out that split lane
32:03because he makes a lot of time up on Seth.
32:06Yeah, continuing to narrow that gap.
32:08He was 1.4 seconds faster than Hammaker last lap around
32:16and nearly now has him under pressure.
32:21Yeah, a lot of that time was made up in that last little sweeper section.
32:24Pay attention to that this next lap.
32:26Could he pass there?
32:27You got close enough?
32:28Is that an area you can make a move?
32:29Yeah, because that split lane might have an opportunity.
32:32You have to beat him and do a little bit of trick him,
32:36but he's got to stay a lot closer.
32:37If he's a lot closer going to that, he will have an opportunity to pass him just straight up.
32:42Good to put down on the white flag between these two, and that's podium real estate.
32:46Now, Hammaker, good on this section, stretching it out a bit.
32:49Looking at 14th place there.
32:55That is Balamay, the French rider, and that's 14th got Thrasher right in front of him, Matisse Balamay.
33:04Good to have him here.
33:06Said he's always wanted to try racing in America, so he'll be here the next couple rounds.
33:10I've met a gentleman out of Reno, Nevada, who's a French native.
33:15Somehow he hooked up and got some bikes all the way from Reno to Indiana last weekend and to help Matisse go racing.
33:24Good to have a veteran out here.
33:25JT, you're familiar with his riding?
33:27Yeah, Balamay is a well-known rider in Europe.
33:29He's a French champion this year, and this was just his lifelong dream, and he came over with his parents.
33:33Didn't have a lot of help, but he basically just decided it was now or never to make this happen,
33:38so basically an effort.
33:40They're running by themselves, and here, putting that bike inside the top 15.
33:43Pretty impressive so far.
33:44Oh, yeah, and battling it out with Nate Thrasher.
33:46It's a rider that's won American races in Supercross, and I feel like we're just seeing it more and more.
33:52We've got Pat Turell, said, hey, take a chance on me in 450s racing for Twisted T.
33:58Suzuki, you've got Giyode doing the same thing coming over for the summer in the 450 class,
34:03and behind them is Connelly, the Australian that we mentioned, who's in 15.
34:09You can almost see that Honda peeking into the picture here or there.
34:12Yeah, this track seems like now it's starting to bake in for these guys to wear.
34:16It'll be a little bit more consistent compared to those opening half of the race.
34:20Oh, man, what an impressive ride by Mr. Joe Shimoda.
34:26It is Joe time for sure.
34:28Yeah, yeah, and again, I cannot stress how he needs to score two more points to Deegan today
34:35to prevent the title from being wrapped up, and he has picked up three in this moto,
34:40so it's going to come down to the second moto.
34:41Again, that's just for Deegan to wrap up the title early.
34:44I don't want to oversell.
34:45I mean, Deegan would go into Bud's Creek with a huge point lead and just had to bring it home,
34:49but I would imagine there's a lot of pressure when you've got to think about it for the next seven days.
34:53Yeah, it's a lot of pressure, but, I mean, Hayden, he's got a good team of people.
34:57I don't think, you know, even if Joe goes 1-1 today, it's going to really change that point,
35:00but what it will change is once those playoffs come, and he knows what the number 30 is doing here,
35:06it's going to help him a lot, especially in the shorter arenas, you know, in the Supercross format.
35:11Something's different about Joe, so championship might be a long shot for him,
35:17but that playoff, you've got to believe he's got it figured out.
35:21This is going to be, if he holds it in, the biggest gap, 41 seconds of the year,
35:28largest victory, almost double 24 was the previous, and Joe throwing some style in now?
35:35Oh, yeah, he's getting my feeling comfortable.
35:38This might be their biggest lead in either class.
35:42Well, I've been getting reference over at the Suzuki truck every weekend,
35:46but I might go over to Honda HRC next weekend and be, I don't have what he's having.
35:49Oh, he's like, Wasabi-san, that's what he said, right now, the mechanics on the pit board.
35:53There you go.
35:53Yeah.
35:53They know it's Wasabi Joe spicy today,
35:56and absolutely dominant from gate to flag, just blew through the pack,
36:02opens up a giant lead.
36:04Nobody's catching him this time.
36:07Checkered flag.
36:09Shoshimoda absolutely dominates the first moto at Unadilla.
36:16Yeah, they're still racing.
36:17You'll see Hayden come down.
36:19Yeah.
36:20Hayden, I mean, he came past where he was.
36:22That is wild.
36:22Yeah.
36:23So the title clinch could still happen.
36:28He just needs to return serve.
36:29If he can beat Shemoda, you know, 1-3 to 1, or sorry, 2-1 to 1-2,
36:34and just hold serve off points for the day,
36:36he would still wrap the title early, but it could come down to the finale.
36:40Joe's doing all he can in the back half of this championship.
36:44Yeah, Hayden, he's doing exactly what he needs to do.
36:47He's got to play the long game, so an opportunity here in another hour.
36:50All right, so Hayden Deegan will be second on that Monster Yamaha Star Racing machine.
36:57And Hemmaker got on the gas there that final lap and was able to fend off the owl,
37:03and he will take third.
37:04Oh, I think he actually no longer has the largest victory of the year
37:12because that last lap, he cruised just a little.
37:14Come on, Joe.
37:17A win's a win.
37:18And what a win it was for the number 30 out of Japan.
37:21and a win.
37:22And I'll see you later.
37:22Coop, boy.
37:23All right.
37:24All right.
37:24We'll be back.
37:41Obrigado por assistir.
