Dexter is headed out into the Atlantic, away from the U.S., but another storm could be approaching the Southeast by this weekend.
Transcript
00:00Tropical storm Dexter has formed. It's on the map here and Dexter is going to continue to pass
00:06well to the north of Bermuda. Here's Bermuda right now and again Dexter is kind of a low to
00:12mid-range tropical storm right now moving to the northeast at 15 miles per hour. Initially it was
00:17associated with and attached to a front. Now it's kind of taken a shape of its own and it's no longer
00:22really embedded within a true front. So it is a freestanding tropical system and it will remain
00:27a tropical storm for the next day or so. By 48 hours from now we expect this to begin to become a
00:34little more ragged looking over the north Atlantic with a little extra wind shear and colder water up
00:38that way. So Dexter is not going to be much of a factor aside from helping to produce some extra
00:43rip currents up and down the east coast. So beware swimmers or if you're responsible for some swimmers
00:48maybe if you're a parent you're on vacation and you have young ones out there who will be swimming
00:52make sure you're keeping a close eye on them. So here we have Bermuda there's Dexter but to the north
00:58this tropical feature actually has a little bit more longevity in getting our attention because
01:03it's going to be drifting west and northwest passing near or over the Bahamas and this is going to get
01:09close to the Georgia Florida and South Carolina coast by Friday Saturday and Sunday this coming
01:14weekend. And when we look at wind shear the the amount of wind in the path of this there's some
01:20relatively low wind shear where it's currently located but there will be moderate to occasionally
01:25strong shear in its path. By the time we get to Wednesday morning you'll notice the Bahamas
01:29an area of relatively low wind shear so we need to keep an eye out for that system. There's potential
01:34for this between Friday and Sunday to become perhaps a tropical depression. There's another
01:38disturbance that's going to follow that one. A little bubble high pressure system will follow that
01:42and then it'll direct the next one farther south into next week for the Gulf. We're also keeping an eye
01:48out for this pretty robust tropical wave pooling west of Africa which could organize as well.
