00:00...trying to do what he did yesterday.
00:02In the qualifying race, Kaida Wolf rode a very smart, intelligent race.
00:05There was no hurry to get to the front.
00:07And when he did get to the front, he was able just to manage that pace well
00:11and maybe save a little bit for today.
00:14And so far, from what we've seen in the first few corners,
00:17he looks more desperate, more keen to get to the front here in the early stages of race one.
00:21Yeah, he's attacking a bit.
00:23I don't think he'll take any outside chances.
00:25Sasha already makes a mistake there.
00:26Takes the lead, Kai, and this was exactly how Kai would have drawn it up.
00:31Would he like to be out front before this?
00:33Sure, but to be inside of the lead, to lead across the green flag on the first lap,
00:38that puts everyone else under such pressure here.
00:41But this is where you see a real sound rider like Kaida Wolf,
00:44where he hops and dances around, clears some of those holes,
00:46his tall frame, making it look even more elegant.
00:49It's almost balletic on his footpegs, isn't it?
00:50Yeah, and you said it there with the leverage he has.
00:53He can ride the motorcycle in a completely different fashion
00:56than, say, Sasha Kunin, who he's feeling the bumps a lot more than Kai ever will.
01:02Watch this here.
01:02Sasha Kunin just overjumped, and then he saw the body language.
01:06He knew he was going off the side of the track.
01:08If that was any softer, he would have stopped straight over the bars,
01:11but somehow he keeps himself in the race in that second position.
01:14McClellan now up into third.
01:17He's found his way past Adamo.
01:19So the Monster Energy Triumph at the end of this first lap is gunning for DeWolf and Kunin.
01:24This could be a fascinating contest between these three,
01:28especially when you've got McClellan there lurking in the background.
01:31I like the line choice there by Sasha.
01:33He kind of gets out and then cuts back in, doing a little bit of flat tracking there.
01:38I mean, I don't expect him to make a move here on Kai,
01:40but just those little nuances you see in some of the lines that they choose are pretty fun to watch.
01:45Give you some lap times here then, since we've been finish line to finish line.
01:48at the end of that first lap, DeWolf fastest with a 2.05.1,
01:51but his gap over Sasha Kunin, just over 7 tenths of a second.
01:57Kunin and McClellan in the 2.06.
01:58Adamo already in the 2.08s,
02:01so that goes to show how someone who doesn't have the best sand technique in Andrea Adamo,
02:07compared to Kai DeWolf, for instance,
02:10how quickly you can establish a lead when you're two seconds off the pace,
02:13even at the end of one lap.
02:14Yeah, and the interesting part here for Kai,
02:17I don't think he's really too concerned with Sasha sitting back there,
02:20but he will watch for McClellan.
02:22If McClellan makes a move on Sasha and starts to close the gap,
02:24I think you'll see him raise the intensity.
02:26You can just see the riding, the difference between lap one to lap two.
02:30Look how much more calm he is. There's really no urgency.
02:32I think he feels very comfortable with the situation now,
02:35but we heard how confident that Cam McClellan was,
02:37so that's what he'll be watching for.
02:39And weather conditions, it doesn't look it, but it is sunny outside on and off,
02:43but it's also a lot warmer, more humid than it was yesterday.
02:46And the riders will feel that, especially on this racetrack,
02:48where you have to be, I want to say inch perfect,
02:52in that you have to sort of dance and time everything to perfection.
02:56If you're going to wheelie, wheelie, hop, skip, double,
02:59and then wheelie, wheelie, hop, skip, triple,
03:00some of the bumps, as you see Kai DeWolf going around the corner,
03:03that kind of fluidity is going to make the difference.
03:05You break that rhythm, you lose that concentration,
03:07and for the rest of the race, you end up fighting the bike.
03:11When you're fighting the bike in these kind of conditions,
03:13it's your own worst enemy.
03:15It's just a completely different race than what we saw last weekend at the Czech Republic.
03:19There are so many areas in the Czech where you can kind of let the bike
03:23leave it to its own devices, and it's not going to really bite you.
03:27This track, you let up for a second, you're going to be in big trouble.
03:29This may be the only area of the racetrack where they can kind of relax a little bit,
03:34maybe free their hands up on the bars.
03:35The rest of the racetrack, it's full effort all the time,
03:38and it's a lot more laborious than you would see last weekend,
03:42and it's a much bigger fitness test than we would have seen last weekend.
03:45Get the riders over the line, then, at the end of lap two,
03:47and we'll give you a quick top 10, top 15 rundown.
03:51We know DeWolf is over the line.
03:52He's 2.7 seconds clear of Sacha Kuhn and McClellan third,
03:55another 2.3 seconds behind the Belgian.
03:58Fourth is that rider there, Andrea.
03:59Adamo, again, 2.5 seconds adrift.
04:03Then Langenfeldi, a championship leader, Kuhnen is down,
04:06and he looked like he was just holding that right arm there,
04:09and he's facing the wrong way.
04:13Is that over the triple?
04:15Or the...
04:16Let's have a look.
04:17Corner exiting.
04:19Oh, just folds up front, and look at that.
04:21That's how deep it is, and then he gets beat up by the bike on the way down.
04:26No wonder he's holding that shoulder.
04:27Coming out of turn four, maybe.
04:28Tire caught him there.
04:33So, out of second position.
04:36Sacha Kuhn on lap three.
04:39He remounts in eighth place.
04:45Fortunately for him, they were already starting to distance the other riders behind him,
04:49so, yes, he was quick on his feet,
04:51but how second-hand is he going to feel for the rest of the race?
04:54How much is that shoulder going to give him problems throughout the rest of the day?
04:58Of course, we don't know that at the moment until the end of the race,
05:00but lap times and positions may determine that for us.
05:04Yeah, and you just think yesterday he crashed four times, he got seventh.
05:07You know, he just can't have a repeat performance.
05:09At some point this weekend, or just in his career as a big picture,
05:14you've got to understand where the limit is,
05:15and I think he really struggles to identify what the ceiling is on any particular racetrack,
05:20and that's where you see those big mistakes come in.
05:22I want to see a replay of Kai DeWolf coming around that long right-hand turn there
05:25because the way that he was dancing around and just jumping and doubling
05:29and making light work of those deep holes, certainly towards where it tightened up,
05:33it just goes to show you, you know, the technique that this kid has.
05:36There are other riders that have it as well,
05:37but some just do it that little bit better than others,
05:39and it makes it that much better out on track in terms of the lap time and overall feel.
05:43And I just think, Sasha, he likes to sit on the fence of control,
05:48and if you sit there for long enough and you take enough chances,
05:50eventually it's going to bite you,
05:51and you can see him making course call the first lap.
05:54He almost jumps off the track.
05:55Like, those are warning signs that you need to back it down a little bit,
05:58and just watching him over the years,
06:00he just seems like he is refusing to listen to those warning signs and beat them.
06:04And here he comes again.
06:05Yeah, he doesn't care.
06:06He does not care.
06:07He rides like he's never crashed before.
06:10Yeah.
06:11And even when he makes that mistake,
06:12he just picks himself up like he never even made that mistake.
06:15He's just like, okay, we're back on two wheels.
06:17Almost like, you know, a dog that, right, watch this here.
06:21So this was the jump a moment ago when he was all over the back of Elzinger.
06:27Elzinger taking a look across here, got the pass done there,
06:30moves into fifth place, that's sixth place.
06:34And there's a movie reference of a guy named 10 Second Tom.
06:36If you told him something in 10 seconds, he didn't remember it,
06:39that's how he races.
06:40He has the memory of a goldfish.
06:41Like, if you asked him,
06:42he probably doesn't even remember crashing two laps ago,
06:44and he just keeps attacking, which you have to admire it.
06:47I admire the tenacity he has,
06:49but it's sometimes, it's painful for me to watch,
06:51and I'm sitting in a booth with you.
06:53Sorry, did you just say something there?
06:54I just had a ten-second moment.
06:56I'll fill you back in in ten seconds.
07:00But, Sasha Coonan up and running again,
07:05going after Kaz Volk.
07:06Kaz Volk is obviously a favourite for a podium here this weekend.
07:09And the Van Venrooy KTM rider has had a bit of a naff time of it lately.
07:14But he's obviously looking to turn things around here.
07:16Remember, he started off the first three rounds of the championship,
07:18finishing sixth overall at each of the first three rounds.
07:21He got a fifth in Trentino.
07:22And probably since Portugal, round seven,
07:25he has not featured inside the top ten.
07:28Been 11th a couple of times.
07:29So, if he can get himself back into the top five,
07:31maybe even a podium here.
07:32Of course, they live an hour or so from here
07:34towards the northwest of Holland,
07:36but northeast of Holland.
07:37But even still, this is very much like that familiar feeling at home.
07:40Same for Rick Helsinger.
07:41Yeah, and any of the Dutch sand riders
07:44are going to feel right at home.
07:45Yes, we're in Belgium,
07:46but this is an institution,
07:49and they would have spent a lot of their days
07:52riding, practicing here.
07:53Wave jellos at the end of the straight there.
08:00And, oh, it's on the inside of the corner there.
08:03Interesting place for a crash.
08:03And, being told it's Braceres there.
08:06It was down in, well, it's down on the floor there.
08:11Oh.
08:12Oh, yeah, it wasn't even the crash.
08:13It was the aftermath.
08:14Just the aftermath.
08:14The aftermath where Mestas just came over the top of him there
08:17and probably would have been a footpeg right across the back there.
08:20So, no wonder the guy's still down.
08:22Braceres gets himself a good start down and out here
08:25at the home Grand Prix workshop.
08:27Just the other side of those trees there in that back corner.
08:31Mathis Valam, third overall in Czech Republic two weekends ago.
08:35Won the qualifying race.
08:36Got two third-place finishes.
08:38No stranger to doing well in Sand.
08:39The former Latuke Enduro Palm junior winner,
08:43and that one-and-a-half or two-hour beach race that he endures.
08:47But, obviously, now focusing everything fully on MX2,
08:50the European 250 champion from last year.
08:52He's circulating in eighth place at the moment.
08:54He's got Elzinger just ahead of him.
08:56And we've got another rider down here as well.
09:00Looks like De Baer.
09:01So, yeah, the 5.24 of Emile De Baer,
09:03the DVS junior racing TM rider.
09:07I got an opportunity to speak to Antti Piranen,
09:10team principal for Kawasaki,
09:11and they are so happy with the progress that Valand has made.
09:15And they have big plans for him moving forward.
09:16I think he has proven himself to be the guy
09:19that they can kind of lean on for that MX2 program
09:21for the long term.
09:23Andrea Adamo looking good here at the moment.
09:26Closing back in on Camden McLellan.
09:27And I thought when Camden McLellan found his way past the Italian,
09:30he would start to latch on to DeWolf.
09:32But that gap has gone out to about seven and a half seconds
09:35between the race leader and the number eight.
09:37And Adamo is getting dragged along here now.
09:39And that's going to do his confidence a world of good
09:41because all of a sudden when you're chasing somebody
09:43and you're able to replicate what other riders doing ahead of you,
09:46they're doing it well.
09:47You pick up on that, and that drags you out of that hole.
09:49Otherwise, you find yourself riding lonely in fourth or third place.
09:53Just hit everything harder than you want to
09:56and makes your race even harder.
09:58Yeah, and a lot of times, if you see a rider
10:00that you're comparable talent with an ability,
10:03if they went by me and I was like,
10:05okay, I have nothing for their pace,
10:06I'm just going to try to do what they do.
10:08I'm going to check every line they take.
10:09I'm going to try to mimic what they're doing
10:11because clearly that's much better than what I'm doing.
10:14And maybe it's not quite as good as what they're doing.
10:16Anytime you try to do what they're doing well,
10:17it's not going to be quite as good.
10:18But I think that's kind of what Adamo is doing
10:20is I'm just going to follow this guy around.
10:22He has good pace, he has good rhythm,
10:23and I'm just going to do that.
10:24Did you see the difference in the two riders
10:26as they hit the Monster Energy finish line jump there?
10:28Camden McClellan, it's a tabletop,
10:29so he went short, landed on the downside.
10:31Adamo jumped longer to find another hole,
10:34probably another 10 meters further down the track
10:36to have his landing zone.
10:38So he gained ground there
10:39because he wasn't landing in all that back roost
10:41on the top of the jump, on the downside.
10:43Yeah, and some of that is really staying open-minded.
10:46You have to keep your vision open
10:48so these holes develop where you can use them.
10:50You know, a hole doesn't have to be an enemy.
10:53It can be your friend
10:53if you find a way to use it in rhythm.
10:55And when you see them jumping through the trees there,
10:57that sort of right-left
10:58where they're jumping blind through corners.
10:59In fact, Valant and Elzinger,
11:01they're on that part of the racetrack now,
11:03so already jumping over the holes.
11:04But as you get through this turn,
11:06we watch here.
11:06They get out of here,
11:07jumping the hole there,
11:09and then wheel in a few more,
11:10and then jumping this hole here
11:11just to maintain that kind of fluid motion.
11:14Yeah, it was nice.
11:16Perez, down from 13th, 12th or 13th.
11:20Yeah, that line that Valant used there
11:22on the outside that then turns to the inside,
11:24it wasn't working yesterday.
11:25We saw riders in both classes
11:26try to make that work,
11:27and it simply wasn't there.
11:29So something to keep in mind
11:30if you're one of the MXGP contenders
11:32watching this race at your hauler,
11:34that's something you want to watch for
11:35because it's changed from yesterday to today.
11:38All this part of the racetrack
11:40was flat yesterday
11:41on the run-up to that monster jump
11:43the other side all out of here.
11:44The only holes that we had
11:45were shallow waves here,
11:46but you see they're getting deeper
11:48and more rutted.
11:49We can't see the ruts in the base.
11:52Yeah, looking at the back side
11:53of this racetrack
11:54doesn't know justice.
11:55I just have no idea
11:56what they're facing.
11:57Penalty for Kuna,
11:58not respecting waved yellows
11:59in fifth place.
12:01So he's going to get
12:01a five-point penalty
12:04in the championship.
12:05He'll hold on to that
12:05fifth place in the race,
12:07but in the championship
12:08he will lose five points.
12:10So what would that likely
12:11have been making a pass
12:13under yellow?
12:14Maybe jumping on waved yellows even.
12:15Yeah.
12:16And it might have been
12:16this incident here
12:17with Braceres
12:18and it might have been
12:18the incident with
12:19DeBear further around the back.
12:21So we don't know.
12:22But it's five championship points
12:29is the penalty.
12:31So you don't lose your positions.
12:32That's a heavy penalty.
12:33Yeah.
12:33Right.
12:34Clearly it's deserved.
12:35You can't be taking chances
12:36when there's a rider under duress,
12:38you know,
12:38injured.
12:39Man,
12:39five championship points
12:41is tough.
12:42And of course,
12:43when he arrived here,
12:44he was 86 down on Kai
12:46and 28 clear of Tebow Beniston.
12:51Did he beat him in the...
12:52Yeah, he beat him in the...
12:53No, Beniston beat him,
12:54pulled a couple back
12:55in the qualifying race yesterday.
12:56Beniston's behind him here,
12:57so there's going to be
12:59a little bit of give and take
13:00there in that battle
13:00for their championship
13:01place of fourth.
13:02But this is impressive
13:04from Andrea Adamo.
13:07I like the way he looks,
13:08you know,
13:08regardless of the position,
13:10he told me he was a third find,
13:12but just his form
13:12looks like he's riding
13:14while you see him
13:15hopping over the bumps,
13:16which isn't typical
13:17for a rider from Italy.
13:18Like, he's had to learn
13:19this skill,
13:20but he looks pretty at home
13:21in these conditions.
13:23Oh, Tebow Beniston,
13:24down.
13:28Just trying to work out
13:29where that is on the track.
13:30That's coming out of turn five
13:32months to the plateau.
13:34So after the first couple
13:35of switchbacks,
13:36after the finish line area,
13:38so Beniston then,
13:39dropping down the order as well.
13:43But when you watch Adamo,
13:46and if you were just
13:46watching him alone
13:47and you came here
13:48to watch a training day
13:48and you watched him
13:49riding around,
13:49you think,
13:50man, how good is this guy?
13:51You know,
13:52he's fast,
13:53he's this,
13:53he's that,
13:54he's fluid.
13:54But then you compare
13:55what he's doing
13:56to Kaida Wolf,
13:58for instance,
13:58especially through this
13:59part of the racetrack here.
14:00You see how
14:02more he's fighting
14:04the motorcycle
14:04compared to DeWolf.
14:06But this is the difference,
14:08isn't it?
14:08These are the small
14:09intricacies
14:10that make the big difference.
14:11Yes,
14:12they can all ride sand.
14:13Some just ride it better,
14:14some ride it a lot better.
14:15Well,
14:16just that section there.
14:17Say he was
14:18two-tenths better,
14:19and then another section
14:20he's two-tenths better.
14:21Well,
14:22he's going,
14:23you know,
14:23seven to eight-tenths
14:25a lap better.
14:25That's where you make up
14:27those amounts of time.
14:28It doesn't have to be
14:29this dramatic difference
14:30where everybody
14:31standing on the racetrack
14:32sees it.
14:32It's just subtle subtleties.
14:34But that ends up
14:35to a second a lap.
14:36Yance Wolvoort,
14:37the KTM BTS racing team rider.
14:39Currently in ninth place
14:40at the moment.
14:41Remember,
14:41he got a six overall
14:42in Portugal last year
14:43in muddy conditions.
14:45Again,
14:46he's just had a few injuries,
14:47neck injuries,
14:47things like that this year.
14:48So just trying to work
14:49his way back
14:50into contention.
14:51but having a good time
14:54here at the moment.
14:55He was 10th in the
14:56qualifying race yesterday,
14:57so he picked up a point.
14:59Circulating inside the top 10.
15:01The longer he stays there,
15:03the longer he sees
15:04he's not being caught
15:04or he might be inching
15:06towards the rider
15:07ahead of him,
15:07which in this case
15:08is Elzinger.
15:09That just boosts
15:09the confidence a little bit.
15:11And again,
15:12that just gives you
15:12that boost, doesn't it?
15:13Gives you that extra 10%.
15:15Yeah, yeah.
15:16I mean,
15:16I think anytime
15:17you can find extra motivation
15:19for a race,
15:20you're already racing
15:20Grand Prix, right?
15:21So you should be
15:22at peak motivation,
15:23but home crowd,
15:25you know,
15:25having your friends
15:26and family,
15:26like all that stuff
15:27makes a difference.
15:31Again,
15:31just picking their
15:32front wheel up
15:33and the rider's
15:33wheeling onto that.
15:34No,
15:34they're just jumping
15:35and then wheeling
15:36off the top,
15:36but you do have the option
15:37to wheelie that crest
15:38and then keep the power
15:39and then hop off the top.
15:41Which is so hard to do.
15:42Like,
15:43I don't think
15:44I have the proper
15:45vocabulary to describe
15:46how difficult it is
15:47to keep that front end
15:48light and to be
15:48constantly pulling it up
15:50out of this heavy sand
15:51across the bumps.
15:52Sasha Kuhn
15:52and has found his way
15:53past Langenfelder
15:54moves into fourth place.
15:55Yes,
15:55he's going to get a penalty.
15:56It's going to be five points.
15:58So the higher that he gets up,
15:59obviously,
16:01the worse that penalty
16:02is in that respect,
16:03if you know what I mean.
16:03So would Langenfelder
16:05regain that position
16:06or would the points
16:07only be subtracted?
16:08No, no, no.
16:08So the point,
16:09the position stays,
16:10but it's just the points
16:11at the end of the championship,
16:12you know,
16:13in terms of
16:14the overall Grand Prix
16:15classification.
16:15And you just wonder,
16:17I guess it's maybe
16:17a bit too early.
16:18You know,
16:18we still have the entire
16:20month of August and September
16:21to go racing,
16:21but is there somewhere
16:23where Davide DiCarlo
16:24is wondering
16:25if he has to say
16:26something to Sasha here,
16:28like,
16:29about letting Simon
16:30go back around?
16:30Well, like I say,
16:35it's a five-point penalty.
16:36So if he wins the race,
16:3725,
16:38he'll only get 20
16:39towards the championship,
16:40if you know what I mean.
16:41But it does.
16:42But Simon's points
16:42would not be reflected
16:44in that, correct?
16:45He would still get
16:46fifth place points
16:47versus fourth.
16:49Just thinking big picture,
16:50at what point
16:50do we start thinking about,
16:51okay, Sasha,
16:52we need to think championship
16:53for the bigger team here.
16:56Valin.
16:57And Volk.
16:58Volk looks across to his left,
16:59sees the Frenchman there
17:00alongside him
17:00on the Kawasaki.
17:02And the Frenchman
17:03has to go to the outside there.
17:05That'll bring him
17:06cutting out on the outside again,
17:08setting himself up
17:09for another outside swing
17:10through turn four.
17:13Volk knows he's there,
17:14couldn't do anything about it.
17:15And Valin moves
17:16into sixth place.
17:20He's running really well.
17:21I do believe
17:23that in a year or two,
17:25maybe next year,
17:26he's a championship contender.
17:28You know,
17:28you can't say
17:29he will win the championship,
17:30but I think he will be
17:31in the conversation.
17:32Just the level of progression,
17:34how quickly it's happening,
17:35you can just see it coming.
17:38It's been a rollercoaster
17:40to ride so far
17:40for Sasha Coonan.
17:42Take a look at the start.
17:43He almost didn't make it
17:44through the first corner either.
17:47Kind of off.
17:49Good, smart move.
17:49Inside gate,
17:51but it was Coonan.
17:51A few positions further down.
17:53Oh, there was the stab there.
17:54He got on the gas
17:55and yes,
17:55it was just
17:56a bike length clear
17:57for the foxhole shot.
17:59DeWolf second.
18:00Another angle here.
18:02Guy cars makers
18:03all the way to the outside there
18:04at the number 33.
18:05Some riders
18:05trying to swing
18:07back across there.
18:08That's one of them as well.
18:10That front end for Sasha,
18:11it pushes and catches
18:12and pushes and catches.
18:14There's no real certainty
18:16about what's happening.
18:16it's really tricky.
18:18But he's already broken free
18:19from Simon Langenfelder.
18:24Still continues to fight
18:25as you say,
18:26on off one way
18:27or the other.
18:29It's like he never
18:30even crashed earlier on.
18:31I think if I tried
18:32anything as hard
18:34as Sasha Coonan
18:35tries to race his motorcycle,
18:36I would be much better off.
18:40He's definitely not scared.
18:41We'll give him that.
18:42Yeah.
18:43Guy DeWolf
18:43knew he needed
18:44to get to the front early.
18:45That's exactly what he's done.
18:47and he's just doing
18:48what he did
18:48in the qualifying race.
18:50You know,
18:50the mentality of trying
18:51to absolutely obliterate
18:53this field
18:53by 30, 40, 50 seconds
18:55a minute.
18:56Those days are gone for him.
18:57He's just going to ride
18:58the smart race,
18:59go, you know what?
18:59I don't need to do that.
19:0025 points to 25 points.
19:02Whether I win it
19:02by seven seconds
19:03or seven minutes,
19:04it doesn't matter.
19:05There are not many things
19:06that ego will serve you well on.
19:09And I think trying to win
19:10by 30 seconds or a minute
19:11is one of those things
19:12where there's not
19:13a lot of upside.
19:14The points are the same.
19:15No one's going to be more impressed.
19:16Your contract's not going to change.
19:18You just need to make sure
19:19you win the race
19:20and you up the risk ratio
19:21when you try to win
19:22by 30 seconds.
19:23You take unnecessary chances.
19:24And especially here,
19:25and he made the mistake
19:26actually on this part
19:27of the racetrack last year
19:28where he handed the victory
19:29to Simon Langefelder
19:30in that particular corner
19:31where he just came in
19:32and was pushing
19:33and then the next minute,
19:34you know,
19:35Langefelder going down as well.
19:37Just got an unlucky bounce there.
19:41Yeah, that could have been
19:42a lot worse.
19:43And it was already bad,
19:44but it could have been
19:45a lot worse.
19:46Out of fifth place.
19:49Picks himself up,
19:50but he's going to lose positions
19:51to Valant and Volk.
19:53Needs to get his head
19:53back in the game.
19:54Simon Langefelder.
19:55Hopefully the bike
19:56isn't too bent and damaged.
19:58Again, another rider.
19:59These conditions,
20:00not his forte.
20:02Try and limit that
20:03kind of risk,
20:05if you like.
20:05Well, he's just put himself
20:06in a bit of a position
20:07here at a moment.
20:08Especially with Kai DeWolf
20:10at the head of the field.
20:11Seems like the front's
20:12a little twisted.
20:13You just see him kind of
20:13correcting and correcting
20:14and correcting.
20:15Right side down, maybe.
20:16So he's working against
20:17muscle memory
20:18and what he wants to do
20:19versus where the bike
20:20is wanting to go.
20:22You see him just get
20:22a little off kilter there.
20:24So it could be the bars
20:25been, it could be the
20:25front wheel twisted
20:26inside the clamps.
20:28You can just see him
20:28fight.
20:29Yeah, you can just see
20:29him fighting directionally.
20:31That's a telltale sign
20:32for that.
20:32Yeah, it moves into
20:33eighth place then.
20:34Langenfelder now.
20:36So that's going to be
20:36costly for him.
20:38Looks like that left
20:39side maybe just a little
20:41off.
20:42Nothing worse than
20:43having bars that aren't
20:44straight or slightly bent.
20:46Yes, you can ride
20:47around it.
20:47Hard tracks, it's a little
20:48bit easier to do it
20:49than that.
20:49But on the sand here
20:50where you're always
20:51fighting anyway,
20:52when you've got that
20:53discrepancy where the
20:54bar is slightly low or
20:55twisted, not quite
20:56straight.
20:57Well, you know, your
20:58mind and your body are so
20:59connected and you have
21:0010 million hours of
21:02practice and muscle
21:03memory.
21:03So what your eyes tell you
21:04to do and tell your body
21:05to position is fighting
21:07against what now the
21:08motorcycle and the
21:09geometry of it.
21:10It's a really hard thing
21:11to kind of square.
21:12If he rides another few
21:13laps like this, it will
21:14get better.
21:15It's, you know, you're
21:16able to adapt to it.
21:17We've all ridden with
21:18bent handlebars in our
21:19life, but it does take
21:20time.
21:20And then he might lose a
21:21lot of positions during
21:22that process.
21:23Well, Sasha Kunin here
21:24fourth on track at the
21:25moment.
21:28What is he behind Adamo?
21:2914.4 seconds.
21:32Meanwhile, Simon
21:32Langenfelder looking to try
21:34and get his head back in
21:35the game.
21:36This was his fall a
21:37moment ago.
21:38Watch.
21:38Just all this was good,
21:40but then he just catches
21:41an edge there and then
21:43that put him in front end
21:44first into that hole.
21:45And then from there he was
21:46over to the left-hand
21:47side.
21:47You can see where he's
21:47just about to run over
21:48where he landed now.
21:49So he was separated from
21:50the motorcycle.
21:52Could have got caught up
21:52in it as well, but
21:53obviously fell further
21:55away, which in these
21:56kind of conditions, the
21:59landing not too heavy, if
22:01you like.
22:02Yeah, at least it's sand.
22:03You know, Brace, you
22:04see how bad he's fighting
22:05it right there.
22:06And then a contrast in
22:08styles, contrast in how
22:10this guy is riding
22:11compared to everybody
22:12else.
22:12Kaida Wolf just looks
22:14like he's still on the
22:15first lap.
22:15Looks like he's on a
22:16sighting lap here, to be
22:16fair, just making it look
22:19so easy.
22:22His preferred line to the
22:23inside wasn't available,
22:25just a man around the
22:26outside, just for him.
22:29The racetrack is the same
22:30whether you're inside,
22:31outside, middle.
22:33And I talked about this a
22:34little bit yesterday when
22:35he's standing around the
22:36racetrack, watch how little
22:38his upper body has to move
22:40because of the bumps versus
22:41a guy like Sasha Coonan or
22:42anyone that's a little bit
22:43shorter stature.
22:44Their upper body is
22:45constantly in motion because
22:47of how much the
22:48motorcycle is moving, where
22:48Kai can stand and remain
22:50constant and stand in attack
22:52position the entire time.
22:56Just seems to be riding a
22:57gear higher than everybody
22:58else as well, just getting
22:59the power.
22:59Look how he's wheeling over
23:00those bumps there.
23:01And I remember actually,
23:02I followed Stefan Evertz into a
23:05corner many, many years ago
23:07when he was racing the
23:08National Championship Series
23:09in England for RWJ Honda.
23:12And I made the whole shot on
23:13the 125 in the super final.
23:16He passed me three or four
23:17corners into the race and
23:18there was a corner like that
23:19where there was like three,
23:20four braking bumps.
23:21And I watched him go in there
23:23and he just picked him the
23:24front end, danced around on
23:25the first three, pat, pat,
23:26pat, dropped the front over
23:27the last one.
23:27and I just was like,
23:28well, yeah, I've beaten him
23:30today at the end of the
23:31red, at the end of that
23:32lap, there was a red flag
23:33just because a false start
23:34situation.
23:36So the same scenario.
23:37Yeah, exactly the same
23:38scenario.
23:38I've got a whole shot on him.
23:39He came past me, same part
23:41of the track.
23:42He went, but I did exactly
23:43the same.
23:44And I just thought, okay,
23:44I've learned a new
23:45technique.
23:46And, you know, as history
23:47will tell us, just suddenly
23:48learned it from the best
23:49there ever was, you know,
23:50the 10 time champ.
23:52So it's those little things
23:54when you see somebody do it,
23:56you can stand trackside and
23:57go, oh yeah, but how did
23:58it, I watched it live from
24:00two bike legs back.
24:01Yeah, but good for you for
24:02identifying that, being able
24:04to implement it.
24:05Not many people can do that
24:06on the fly and say, oh,
24:07that's much better than I
24:08was doing.
24:08And I'll try that.
24:09Yeah.
24:10Without ending up on
24:11their head anyway.
24:11But this is what I was
24:12talking about with Adamo.
24:13You know, when he was
24:14following Captain McClellan
24:14early in the race, it was
24:15like he was using him to
24:16pull him around, you know,
24:17those two still now
24:18separated by about four
24:19seconds, but the gap was
24:20about a second, second and
24:21a half.
24:22You got somebody ahead of you
24:23doing something different to
24:24you.
24:24It drags you along, you
24:25find another gear here.
24:27You wheelie another bump
24:28in a different place and
24:29all those kind of things
24:30are the, you know, the
24:32things that make a
24:32difference apart from
24:33there, Cam.
24:36It's looking good though
24:37and again, we said it
24:39last year, I think on
24:40numerous occasions, first
24:41year in the class last
24:41year, Monster Ranger
24:42Triumph, you know, with
24:43Mikkel Harup and Camden
24:45obviously this time around
24:46with Guillaume Perez on
24:46the team.
24:48They have done a lot of
24:49work in a very, very short
24:50space of time and
24:51challenging here, toughest
24:53place on earth, you
24:53know, top three, potential
24:55podium, potential Grand
24:56Prix win.
24:58There's a lot going on.
24:59Oh, Koen and again.
25:03Just before where he
25:04crashed yesterday, he
25:05crashed into that wall on
25:06the top of the screen
25:07yesterday.
25:08So the long turn, there's
25:11your single, there's your
25:12wall jump.
25:15Shaking his head as he goes
25:16past pit lane, they're
25:18shaking his head, they're
25:19shaking their heads as he
25:19goes past pit lane as well.
25:21Down there in the team.
25:22So down from fourth place,
25:25Langenfeld has dropped down
25:26to eighth.
25:26What happened there?
25:28Because Langenfeld has made
25:29a mistake as well.
25:35Oh, yes, that was it.
25:36He had the four, didn't he?
25:37All right, picking himself up.
25:43It's been 10 seconds, he's
25:44ready to go again.
25:45Yeah.
25:4610 seconds, Sasha.
25:50But you have to respect his,
25:52he will not quit, will not
25:55quit.
25:55Okay, we've got slightly more
25:57than 10 seconds here is a
25:58clip of Sasha Kunis race so
25:59far.
26:00Opening lap, leading Kaida
26:01Wolf.
26:03Had that mistake.
26:04took a deep breath, counted
26:06to 10, probably slightly
26:08less, was like, no, that
26:09never happened.
26:09I'm on two wheels, that's
26:10still good.
26:11A couple of laps later, had
26:12this moment.
26:14Wasn't even a graceful
26:15dismount, especially when he
26:16got clobbered by the rear
26:17wheel there, picked himself
26:18up.
26:19Says, okay, let's go down.
26:21And that one off the side
26:22of the track again.
26:26But it's not how many times
26:27you fall, it's how many
26:28times you get back up.
26:29That's the same.
26:30That's how it goes.
26:31Yeah, he's a testament to
26:33that.
26:36I just think you.
26:37Rick Altsinger.
26:38Yeah, that looks like a
26:39mechanical.
26:41The, you know, the thing I
26:42would say about Sasha,
26:43right, it's very easy to be
26:44critical of him here.
26:44He said, so many mistakes.
26:46I'll see.
26:47That looks like the
26:47engine like going landing
26:48there.
26:49Just, it was good that it
26:51did it on the landing,
26:52you know, rather than
26:52it else, because he could
26:53probably just whip that
26:53clutch in and that's it.
26:55Would have been a
26:56completely different story
26:57if it had been on
26:58takeoff.
26:58Yeah, but for Sasha here,
27:00you know, it's easy again
27:01to take shots and crashes
27:02and all that, but so many
27:04riders right now would be
27:05defeated.
27:06They would be riding around
27:07with just, you know, just
27:09discouraged, like, I'm just
27:10going to crash again.
27:11He doesn't have any of that
27:13and as much as I want to say,
27:15hey, you should, you need to
27:16calm down a little bit, you
27:17need to lower the intensity
27:18a little bit, like, I love
27:19the no quit in him.
27:21He just keeps going.
27:21It's fine.
27:22If he crashes again, guess
27:23what he's going to do?
27:23Get up and keep going again.
27:25Well, he crashed in fourth
27:26and got up in fourth.
27:27That's how quickly he was back
27:28on the track.
27:28Battle between McClellan and
27:30Adama is getting
27:30interesting because that gap
27:31now down from four seconds
27:33to about two seconds.
27:34There's Adama closing back
27:36in on the Monster Energy
27:37Triumph rider.
27:41Looking for a smooth bit of
27:42track there.
27:43Doubles in.
27:44Hops.
27:46Wheelies onto the plateau.
27:47Wheelies off the plateau.
27:48That was the line I was
27:49talking about earlier.
27:50It's putting the track
27:51together pretty well right
27:52now.
27:52and trying to stay wide as well
27:54to stay out somewhere
27:55though because the race line
27:56tells you to go inside there
27:57and inside here.
27:58Draw a straight line
27:59between those two sections.
28:00Yeah.
28:01But those race lines are also
28:02the ones that get the deepest,
28:03the quickest and become
28:04the most gnarly as the day
28:05goes on.
28:06So you will see riders
28:08more and more sort of
28:08venturing a little bit wider
28:10just to sort of hit things
28:11that aren't so deep,
28:14if you like.
28:14Just looking over the shoulder
28:23there, wants to know
28:23exactly where Valan is.
28:24Well, Valan about.
28:27Well, actually, yeah, Sasha.
28:2930 seconds.
28:30So he's doing all right
28:32at the moment.
28:33And with 45 seconds
28:34on the clock
28:35and the wolf 12 seconds
28:38further up the track.
28:38Big mistake by Andrea there.
28:41Looking so good a moment
28:42to go for Adama.
28:43A moment to go for Adama.
28:45You just wonder, okay,
28:47clearly his focus changed
28:48from in front of him
28:49to behind him.
28:50And the mistakes comes
28:51that quickly.
28:51Are those two, you know,
28:52a lot of times
28:53those can be correlated.
28:55Just your focus
28:55and you're thinking
28:56charge, charge, charge.
28:58A lot of the industry people
28:59that are running for cover.
29:02I mean, fortunately,
29:03it wasn't high speed
29:04and he already realized
29:05he was going to make the state.
29:05He was already on the brakes
29:06as he went off the track
29:07and then on the sea.
29:09You just, you hear,
29:10you hear riding coaches
29:11and the best we've seen
29:12ever do it say,
29:13you have to stay engaged.
29:14You have to stay
29:15thinking forward
29:15because as soon as you
29:16break your concentration,
29:18a lot of times
29:18you can open yourself up
29:19to a mistake
29:19and I would say
29:20that's probably
29:21what happened
29:21with Andrea there.
29:22Yeah, and that gap
29:23between him
29:24and McClellan now
29:27being blown out.
29:29Meanwhile,
29:31Kai Dwarf
29:31doubling,
29:32hanging off the back.
29:33You know what you don't see
29:35a lot with Kai
29:36is when he gets
29:37into these corners,
29:37there's really no braking,
29:39right?
29:39Even if he's not heavy
29:40on the throttle,
29:41he's really not braking.
29:42He'll kind of let the bike
29:43continue to roll
29:44and he's just maintaining
29:45that momentum,
29:46which is incredibly hard to do.
29:48You know,
29:48that's why he's
29:49the reigning world champion,
29:50but that's where
29:51he's making up
29:52so much time
29:52as we're watching Andrea,
29:53we're watching other riders
29:54that get in mid-corner
29:55and you'd see a little bit
29:57of braking.
29:57I think that kills
29:58all of your forward drive.
29:59Six seconds on the clock
30:00when he went through,
30:00so he's giving everybody
30:01an extra lap,
30:02including himself.
30:03Three to go.
30:05He won't mind about that.
30:06He's probably barely
30:07breaking a sweat
30:08underneath that helmet of his.
30:14Julius Meikle there
30:15in yellow.
30:16He's 17,
30:17so that's where
30:18he's lapped up to now,
30:19the number 20.
30:21And then ahead of him,
30:22Guillaume Dunson,
30:24star of the future for sure,
30:26writes for the SS25.
30:27for Gabriel S's 24 KTM team,
30:30but he's normally
30:30a European 250 champion,
30:31so debut weekend
30:33and Grand Prix
30:33for him this weekend.
30:38Probably riding around
30:39and thinking,
30:39I've still got a lot
30:40to learn before
30:41I go into MX2,
30:42especially in these
30:42kind of conditions.
30:44But that's why
30:44they do these wild cards,
30:46just to sort of see
30:46where they stack up,
30:47even if this is
30:48their preferred condition.
30:50Yeah, it's a progress check.
30:51You know,
30:51where are we at?
30:53How close are we
30:54to taking the next step?
30:55I think when you get
30:57lapped at this point
30:57and you see Kai go by,
30:58you think,
30:59maybe I'm nowhere close,
31:00but this track
31:01is an extreme example.
31:04The rider ahead of him
31:05is going to be
31:05Giam Perez, isn't it?
31:06Just there on the 99.
31:07Yeah.
31:08He's also saying,
31:09you know what,
31:10I don't mind going
31:10lap down now.
31:11Yeah.
31:12Because he's 14th
31:13in the race
31:14and the two lap boards
31:15going out this time around
31:16for the number one.
31:18When you look at his lap time,
31:20this time around
31:21at the end of 15 laps
31:22in traffic,
31:23a 209.1.
31:24And then you look at
31:25somebody like Giam Perez
31:27who has just lapped
31:28219,
31:2910 seconds of lap.
31:30That's a massive
31:31swing, isn't it?
31:33Yeah.
31:33But even a guy like Lata
31:34who we've seen battle
31:35for race wins,
31:36he's doing five seconds
31:37a lap slower,
31:38you know,
31:38in 13th.
31:40It's tough.
31:40The pace for Kai
31:41is really high
31:42this late especially.
31:44McClellan was in the
31:45209s a moment ago
31:46but that particular time
31:47he dropped to a 2.12.
31:49So even he was
31:50three seconds off
31:50of DeWolf's pace
31:51but with two to go,
31:52all he needs to do now
31:53is just bring it home
31:54because he's got
31:5413 seconds over
31:55Andrea Adamo.
31:56Anywhere in the top three,
31:57you're good for a podium
31:58in race two
31:59if you have a similar
32:00ride or better
32:01and that's probably
32:02what he's banking on here.
32:05It's a great effort
32:06for McClellan though.
32:08You can tell
32:10he sensed a good day coming.
32:12This is not a surprise to him.
32:13I think he'd like
32:14to be Kai.
32:15But the drone shot here
32:17just accentuates
32:19just how tough
32:20this track is.
32:21The bike is just
32:22constantly moving.
32:23What you can't see there
32:23and what we know
32:24being on site
32:25is how heavy this scent
32:26is, how deep it is.
32:27So as soon as you back off
32:28it's just like
32:30riding a mountain bike
32:31onto the beach
32:31full gas.
32:32The deeper in you go
32:33the more it's just
32:34going to pull you
32:34to a stop.
32:35It wants to spit you off.
32:36The bike is trying
32:37to spit you off
32:38at all times.
32:39It's so much more
32:40difficult than it looks.
32:42And it looks hard.
32:44Just looking down
32:44at the bottom end
32:45Olly Colma
32:46Olly Colma
32:47Chambers Racing KTM
32:48has just popped up
32:48into the points
32:49in 19th place.
32:50Bring in with him
32:51Pelle Gunderson
32:51the son of Kenneth Gunderson
32:53former GP winner
32:54and factory rider as well.
32:55But good to see
32:57Colma there
32:58getting into the mix
32:59and getting in the points.
33:02And it would be
33:03his first career points.
33:07So good on you.
33:08Just keep it in there
33:09and Olly Colma
33:10will be all smiles.
33:12Not sure if it'll be
33:12all smiles
33:12for too long though
33:14because he'll go
33:15yeah, yeah, yeah
33:15got points.
33:16Oh, got another race.
33:19The good news is
33:19you score points
33:20the bad news is
33:21you've got to try
33:21and do it again
33:22in race two.
33:22Take them while you can.
33:27Kaida Wolf
33:28one lap to go
33:30the Nistan Hasfana
33:32pushed it out
33:33to 17 seconds now.
33:35Absolutely in cruise mode
33:36hasn't done anything
33:38different from one lap
33:39to the next
33:39he's just been
33:40consistently hitting
33:41his marks
33:41still 209
33:42which would indicate
33:44that it's not that
33:45difficult for him
33:46to do 209.
33:47His opening lap
33:48second lap
33:48was a 203
33:49best lap of the race
33:50203 779
33:51I can't imagine race two
33:52being quicker than that
33:52so he's probably
33:53going to be in line
33:54for the Achevis
33:55fastest lap of the
33:55Ward
33:55fastest lap of the
33:56race award.
33:58Here is the 47
33:59of Carles
33:59Racialis
34:00he's in 11th position
34:02at the moment
34:02just behind
34:03Nico Skogberg
34:04Skogberg
34:04got on the podium
34:05in Finland
34:06in MX 250
34:06in the European
34:07Championship
34:08a couple of weeks
34:08ago
34:09but to see him
34:11up here
34:11in the sand
34:12getting points
34:13that's awesome
34:14for him as well
34:14because another
34:15rider who's
34:16not full-time
34:17in MX2
34:18he'll be absolutely
34:19over the moon
34:19with that
34:19will be
34:20number 276
34:21Kai Carsmakers
34:24just ahead of him
34:25Kai Carsmakers
34:25in 9th place
34:26he was on the
34:27outside gate
34:28got pushed real
34:29wide at the start
34:29so for him to
34:31get across
34:31on the number 33
34:32bike at Kawasaki
34:34Racing Team
34:34the Steve Dixon
34:35machine
34:35is also impressive
34:37there
34:37just the lead
34:38rider in shot
34:38with a white
34:39helmet
34:39so Carsmakers in 9th
34:42Skogberg
34:43harassing him
34:44and hounding
34:45him in that
34:4510th place
34:46then Rachel
34:46is in pink
34:47on the 47th
34:48in 11th place
34:49and when you look
34:52at the lap times
34:53these guys
34:53again
34:53two 14s
34:54five seconds
34:55off of that
34:56of Kai DeWolf
34:57and they're in
34:58the battle as
34:59well
34:59the heat of
34:59battle
35:00so they're
35:00not letting
35:01up
35:01just goes to
35:03show what a
35:03difference it is
35:04this is hard
35:05for the race
35:06too
35:06you would like
35:07these last laps
35:08to be a little
35:08bit calmer
35:09than this
35:09and they don't
35:10have a choice
35:10they're in the
35:11heat of it
35:11so they got
35:11to go for
35:12the battle
35:12for a top
35:1310 here
35:13look how easy
35:14he just made
35:14that long
35:15sweeping turn
35:16on the final lap
35:17wheelie there
35:17hop over
35:18jump short
35:20looks across
35:21make sure the
35:21back marker's not
35:22going to come
35:22flying into him
35:23nice little salute
35:25there to the
35:25team as he goes
35:26by for the
35:26final time
35:27past pit lane
35:28you're going to
35:29see another salute
35:29over the finish
35:30line jump here
35:30but Kai DeWolf
35:32unreal here today
35:35on course
35:36for victory
35:37number eight
35:38rounds out
35:39the final turn
35:40he wins race
35:41one here
35:41at Flanders
35:43salutes the
35:44crowd
35:44and so far
35:48he is two
35:49thirds of the
35:50way done
35:50in terms of
35:51being perfect
35:51this weekend
35:52won the qualifying
35:53race on Saturday
35:54wins race one
35:54all he's got
35:55to do now
35:56is line up
35:56and win
35:57race two
35:58to pick up
35:59his second
35:59maximum haul
36:01of 60 points
36:02which is what
36:02he said
36:03was the plan
36:04in Finland
36:04the plan
36:05was to win
36:06at least
36:06one time
36:0760 points
36:08all three
36:08races
36:08well he's
36:09done that
36:09and he's
36:10almost there
36:11to do it
36:11again
36:11Kevin McClellan
36:12crosses the line
36:13in second place
36:13for Monster Energy
36:14Triumph
36:15he'll be pleased
36:16with that
36:17salutes the
36:17crowd there
36:18as well
36:18and Andrea
36:20Adamo
36:21will be
36:22third
36:22two golf
36:23buddies
36:23there
36:23they'll be back
36:24on the course
36:24tomorrow
36:25on the driving
36:27range
36:27Adamo
36:28third
36:2915 seconds
36:30further back
36:30Kunin
36:31we wait for him
36:31in fourth
36:32but of course
36:32we know that
36:33he's going to get
36:33a points penalty
36:34for the world
36:35championship
36:35Adamo
36:38absolutely over the moon
36:39with that third
36:40place
36:40that is as good
36:41as a win
36:41just like that
36:42second in the
36:42qualifying race
36:43on Saturday
36:43yeah and it's
36:44you know the nuance
36:45of it
36:45he knew this is
36:46going to be a
36:46tough day
36:47and that's a third
36:48like you said
36:49would he love to beat
36:50the wolf
36:51sure but that's
36:52extremely unlikely
36:53in these conditions
36:54and then you see
36:55the current
36:56championship points
36:56leader who also
36:57knew this would be
36:58a difficult day
36:58but I don't think
36:59he was hoping
37:00I think he was
37:00hoping for better
37:01than a seventh
37:01Simon Langenfelder
37:03over the line
37:03that had that
37:05one moment
37:06could have been
37:06fourth
37:06could have been
37:07fifth
37:07but in the end
37:08he crosses the
37:08line in seventh
37:09place
37:09back to the
37:10drawing board
37:11and like
37:12everybody else
37:12the heat
37:13here
37:14it's not that
37:14hot
37:14you
