00:00Chairman of the People's National Movement, Marvin Gonzalez, calls the new advisory issued
00:05by the United States Embassy and the surrounding uncertainty a concerning matter.
00:10We are taking note of a lot of the information on this issue that are already in the public
00:16domain.
00:17The issue by the U.S. Embassy, we are hearing talk of persons being in safe houses and what
00:22have you.
00:24So people are concerned, citizens are rightly concerned.
00:28What I am also very concerned about is the vacuum of absence or silence from the government
00:35on this particular issue.
00:36Gonzalez states that the government is bound to be aware of the information released by
00:40the U.S. Embassy as well as the surrounding discourse.
00:44But the government, through its spokesperson, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Homeland
00:50Security, the Prime Minister, the Attorney General, they must speak to the population on these
00:56very important things.
00:58They cannot stay quiet.
01:00And the more you stay quiet, it is going to cause more unease in the national population.
01:06So that is where I take issue.
01:08And his call to the government?
01:10If you can't speak, please speak to the population urgently.
01:14Meanwhile, MP Fadigo Martin Northeast, Colm Inbert, believes the information would become
01:20distorted without hearing from those in authority.
01:23He says, as far as he is aware, there is only one U.S. facility in the country.
01:27Now, what are U.S. government official facilities?
01:30The embassy?
01:31I can't think of many more U.S. government facilities.
01:34That's the only one I know.
01:36So I'm not sure what this means.
01:38But what happens when something like this is issued?
01:41It spawns all sorts of rumors and conspiracy theories.
01:45He says it is the government through their respective ministers to shed light on what is taking place.
01:51The PNM notes that it's happening at a time when there is a state of emergency and where the
02:20substantive commissioner of police, Alistair Guevara, is in the United States having been
02:25granted approval to attend a conference.
02:28These are not normal times and we need the heads of our national security to be on the
02:35job to protect the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
