00:00Win 1 for the Public Utilities Minister as it relates to the incoming UNC government's
00:05decision to not honour CPEP contracts extended hours before the April general election.
00:13To say that the government is vindicated in its position as it relates to the administration
00:18issues that we have identified surrounding CPEP.
00:22The opposition along with affected contractors and their workers admonished government for
00:26its decision, the UNC government maintains such a decision ought to have had cabinet approval
00:33and there exists no documentation to support such.
00:37This matter after the deliberation and the judgement of Madam Justice Margaret Mohammed is scandalous,
00:45it is deeply troubling and it is damning in itself.
00:48Padarath Lamens, then line minister for CPEP Faris al-Rawi, did not file any evidence on
00:54the alleged fraud perpetuated on the company.
00:58Therefore, I join my voice with CPEP this afternoon as the line minister in calling upon the former
01:06line minister for CPEP, now Senator Faris al-Rawi, to clear the air in the public interest regarding
01:13this matter.
01:15Minister Padarath credited their legal counsel for advancing the interest of the company
01:20and protecting the interest of taxpayers.
01:23What is deeply disturbing, alarming and some would say even shocking would have been the
01:30utterances of Madam Justice Margaret Mohammed forwarding these matters to the Director of
01:36Public Prosecutions.
01:38So for all those who have been asking when would matters be forwarded, when would matters be raised
01:43with the police and so on, I can say unequivocally that today is the day for that and CPEP is intent
01:53on cooperating with the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Fraud Squad and the authorities in this matter.
02:00He says there are a lot of questions to be answered by the former minister
02:05and the former cabinet.
